Episode 124 - Katie St. Clair
Katie St. Clair (@katie.stclair.fitness) has years of experience in the industry. She has a personal understanding of chronic pain which was a huge takeaway from this episode. If perhaps meditation on its own is something that makes your life worse, I'd really like you to listen to this episode to learn more about Katie and perhaps get something from her life's experiences so far.If you are about to be a mother, worried about your strength before pregnancy vs after pregnancy, we talked about that. Katie shared many of her struggles that are specific to her being a female. We talked about how she spent most of her career without females to look up to as coaches or mentors which was a big "why" for her creating the Female Fitness Alliance https://www.katiestclairfitness.com/Femalefitnessalliance Regardless of who you are or what you do, there is going to be something for you in this episode. Whether it's people in our lives, people who've raised us, people we train, people we live with. We're all beginners in some faced. We're all trying something new.As you listen to episodes of The Lifestyle Chase, I want to know who is out there. Put faces to the analytics. She graduated as the women’s program’s all-time leading scorer.A lot of this description comes from her bio on her website. What you're going to learn when you listen to this episode is that it's the little things that add up to the big things. The ability to receive feedback in a way that empowers you to work with all kinds of different coaches. One of her driving passions is that she wants to make a difference for youth. Her "why" for what she does is to pass on the support she received in her earlier years to others in their earlier years. One of Kayla's goals is to provide for her family. I think many people in the world are going to feel this way. If someone does everything they can to make you the best version of yourself it inspires you to give back. Episode 119 - John A. Brink
Today is May 4th. In the Netherlands it is known as the Day of the Dead followed by Liberation day on May 5th. This is all in remembrance of those who have died in wars or peace keeping missions since World War II. From a young age, John knew he was going to come to Canada. It was the land of his heroes. From September 1944 to April 1945, the First Canadian Army fought German forces and liberated his home. In 1965, John came to Canada from the Netherlands with few resources and a dream of building a sawmill.Today at nearly 80 years young, John has trained and competed in body building qualifying beyond the local level. We talked about a health problem that came close to ending his life, and how routine has been instilled in him since his time in the air force. John struggled in school as a kid and learned later in his adulthood that there were things that he could work on to better himself. When it came down to it, he's just always had the most passion in the things he was interested in. He'll work hard for his goals, not matter how many times he has to fail or start from ground zero. John has built the largest secondary lumber manufacturing company in North America. He pioneered finger-jointing in Canada, and he's the longest serving director on the B.C. Council of Forest Industries. Brink and the College of New Caledonia jointly purchased a building for a trades and technology program that opened in 2002 as the John A. Brink Trades and Technology Centre. In 2019, he received an Honourary Doctorate of Law Degree from the University of Northern British Columbia in recognition of his past 50+ years of commerce, philanthropy and community involvement. The Brink Group sponsors countless community initiatives, athletes, events, charities, etc. Give this episode a listen and keep your eyes open for John's book, coming later this year! Rich believes that taking control over personal health and performance is a universal challenge. His passion is in the empowerment of others as you can see in how he's named his business, www.EMPWRfast.com . Some of the major takeaways from this episode in particular was bringing the practicality of meditation to the forefront. It's been something that I've talked about with countless guests, and each one of them has done it slightly differently. We talked about Rich's passion for hockey and how he's ingrained to be a part of the team. We talked about how sometimes you need to form the team to have a team. Rich has a wealth of experiences in his career and in life. We had a really good conversation and he gave some really good insight. Episode 117 - Kayle Simpson
Kayle Simpson (@kayle_salad._ ) is currently living in Australia. Living her best life, enjoying the little things and being the change in the world she wants to see with the work she does with her online clients. The thing is, when you move to somewhere new, you don't necessarily sign up to have wildfires and then a worldwide pandemic. We inevitably talk about physical distancing, and the amazing wonders of technology that enables us to all be connected. This episode talks a bit about how moments in time can shape you forever. We discuss how it's best to focus on quality over quantity in the people we surround ourselves with and that even in times of loneliness we have everything we need. Now, quit reading and go listen! Episode 116 - Ben De Zwart
Ben De Zwart is a long-time trainer based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba. He's had to restart several times in his career which has helped him really hone in on the important aspects of personal training. One of his greatest passions at this point is having an impact on other trainers in how he leads them to see what's important in business, what a sustainable career looks like and how to make an impact and not just clock in and clock out. We talked about his career journey and how his previous career wasn't fulfilling and influenced him to make the move to being a trainer. We talked about the many bumps in the road and we talked about how there is always opportunity, it's just how you see things. This episode will be helpful for anyone who needs a little fire under their ass, anyone feeling lost or frustrated in their career or anyone with a family that has had to pick up and move a few times. Episode 115 - Greg Nuckols
ETo best describe Greg, I made use of his bio directly from his website at StrongerByScience.comGreg has over a decade of experience under the bar and a B.S. in exercise and sports science. He is currently enrolled in the exercise science M.A. program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He’s held three all-time world records in powerlifting in the 220lb and 242lb classes. He’s trained hundreds of athletes and regular folks, both online and in-person. He’s written for many of the major magazines and websites in the fitness industry, including Men’s Health, Men’s Fitness, Muscle & Fitness, Bodybuilding.com, T-Nation, and Schwarzenegger.com. Furthermore, he’s had the opportunity to work with and learn from numerous record holders, champion athletes, and collegiate and professional strength and conditioning coaches through his previous job as Chief Content Director for Juggernaut Training Systems and current full-time work on StrongerByScience.com. Greg is also one-third of Monthly Applications in Strength Sport (MASS), a monthly research review he runs with Eric Helms and Mike Zourdos.Essentially, Greg is very widely known among fitness professionals, but for my audience, I wanted to bring out his personality or at the very least, talk about stuff he wouldn't often get asked to talk about. So if you enjoy Greg, or are interested in his work, I highly recommend you seek out some of his content on his website. He is a wealth of information and has been on so many other podcasts you will never run out of Greg things to listen to. Thank you for supporting The Lifestyle Chase! Episode 114 - Shane Fennessey on Passion and Pursuits
Shane Fennessey is on the rise in his career as a film producer. It's so cool to see those big moments - film premiers, seeing his content for purchase on Apple Movies or through Sportsnet etc. He's a very driven, goal oriented individual with what I would describe best as a relentless work ethic, a competitive spirit, and a heart of gold. If you enjoy inspirational sports documentaries, you'll enjoy Shane Fennessey and the what's been keeping him busy over the last several years. If you thrive off of learning and self awareness, you will enjoy what we talk about in this episode. As added context, Shane and I have been on each other's podcast almost two years ago. Aside from his career, he has been hosting a podcast called The City of Champions which centers around Edmontonians. It was amongst one of the first podcasts I ever checked out, and was the first one that I've ever appeared on. He's appeared earlier on The Lifestyle Chase on episode 8, where we took a much broader look at his entry into his career, his origin story, and life in general. Thanks for listening, now go find some of Shane's films! Get full access to Insight by Chris Liddle at chrisliddle.substack.com/subscribe

Episode 113 - Dean Guedo on Pandemic Life, The Evolution of Dean
Dean Guedo first appeared on The Lifestyle Chase in September 2018 for Episode 3. Isn't that crazy? 110 Episodes ago! As you can imagine, a lot has shifted in both of our careers and he's really found his footing in a lifestyle that almost had him feeling more prepared than most for this pandemic. We talk about a lot of things with regards to the current state of things, we talk a little bit about fitness and nutrition, we both go off on a few tangents and forget about what we were talking about and then reel it back in and we generally just cover a lot of things that will be helpful during this time. Dean has a tonne of projects on the go and puts out a lot of content himself as well. You can find his podcast which he co hosts with Andrew Coates by searching for The Fitness Devil. You will also find some of Dean's side projects in that same RSS feed, so be sure to check it out. Get full access to Insight by Chris Liddle at chrisliddle.substack.com/subscribe

She is passionate about educating young athletes to be able to strength train as they progress through their perspective sport. Episode 111 - Sarah Cabana
Today's episode was with Sarah Cabana. You're going to notice a unique trend to this fitness podcast. It's a fitness podcast that FEATURES fitness professionals, but it isn't always a fitness podcast about fitness professionals. Sarah Cabana is a leader in the skin care industry. Essentially, you have to love the skin that you're in, no matter what you go through, and what tough moments you face. You have to face them head on, by being the best version of yourself and believing that you are not alone and that you have what it takes. First impressions aren't always correct and we talked about how Sarah has progressed in her life both personally and professionally through the art of being a good listener. If you've ever been told you're too young to be successful, you'll get something out of this podcast. If you've ever experienced loss when trying to grow a family, that was hard for everyone to truly understand, you will get something out of this podcast. Episode 110 - Meghan Callaway
To truly get the full picture of Meghan Callaway, you're going to want to also listen to one of the OVER 33 other podcasts she's been on. Many of which are hosted by friends of mine. To very quickly learn more about her, you should check out her IG (@meghancallaway)Here is her bio from her website to give you a little ice breaker: "Meghan is incredibly passionate about educating and helping her clients (and also the people who might follow her) discover that working out, and simply moving is a gift, and should be joyful and empowering, and should boost all aspects of overall health and well-being. No matter where you are in your fitness journey, Meghan believes that this is absolutely possible.Like many others, Meghan used to work out purely to control her appearance and a number on the scale, and bought into the notion that she should strive to make herself less. After spending many soul-zapping years doing this, and achieving mentally and physically inferior results, Meghan discovered that working out is a tool that will enhance all aspects of your life, and should be fun, empowering, and effective. She’s turned the world into her playground."In this episode we talked about social distancing, successful online business, building trust with people and clients, and the impact of COVID 19. We also talked about seeking out personal development through valuable coaching, friendship, consulting, therapy, and just surrounding yourself with good people who look out for you and care more about ethics than followers. We talked about how success will always take work, and how structure is important to building a routine. It was a great conversation and I'd love if you listened to it and shared it on social media. You should definitely check out some of the other guests that have been on The Lifestyle Chase by going to thelifestylechase.podbean.com, the list is getting lengthy, and you're bound to recognize a lot of names. Episode 109 - Bryan Baia
I first found Bryan Baia because we follow some of the same New York based fitness industry people. It makes sense as that is where he is based out of, but the reason that I follow New York people is primarily because of Dr. Pat Davidson's crew at Hype, and having watched the Hype Power hour for the better part of a year. Essentially, as a trainer, you end up following people that tag other people that look like they're up to cool strong things (Bryan), then as long as they stay cool (he did) you keep following them and then this happens (Podcast). Now Bryan and I have a podcast episode together. Boom!Bryan is a strong dude with a personality that stands out. In a sea of people doing the same thing, for a person to have a personality goes a long way. I was feeling overwhelmed amidst this whole COVID-19 phenomenon and just needing things to change the tone of my day to day when I came across Bryan squwatting some logs in the middle of a field. My dad and I had literally just talked on the phone about how if I needed a good workout, he could lay out some logs for me to squat out at the acreage and then I saw Bryan's video. I am also someone who likes to put humour into my training business and life so I could relate to his personality. Whether it be my "Savasana Yoga demonstration" or my "Peloton home workout skit". However, Bryan isn't just on the podcast because he's funny. We talked about the grit and determination he has had in his career. He was willing to sleep on a coach in a 1 bedroom apartment with his buddy just to make a move to the big city happen. We talked about the continuing education, the passion for knowledge and the moments he'll never forget with clients. He's a determined individual both in how he leads his life and in the results he strives for with the people under his wing. Go check him out. @bryanbaia Thanks for listening, please support The Lifestyle Chase by looking through past episodes for someone else you know and listening to that one too. If you're feeling spicy, look up one of the many people that you don't know, and learn about them. Help me grow this project in these trying times by sharing a screenshot on social media, rating on your favourite podcast platform and leaving a review. Episode 108 - Lee Boyce
Lee Boyce is the source of a lot of high quality fitness content. He's one of the most prolific writers in the fitness industry today. If you go to the magazine rack at the grocery store there is extremely good odds you will find one of his articles. The thing is, he's not going to waste too much time telling that to people. Here's his bio: "I’m a strength coach who works with clients and athletes for muscle, strength, and sport performance, and I’m based in Toronto, Canada. I’m also an internationally published fitness writer who’s regularly featured in many of the world’s largest publications, like Men’s Health, Men’s Fitness, Oxygen, Esquire, The Huffington Post, Men’s Journal, and T-Nation. You can find plenty of my published web work on this site, and get the heads up when my print work hits newsstands. I’ve done plenty of fitness segments for various TV and radio stations, including Global, CBC, ABC News Radio, Sun News Network, and CP24. I also ran track at the National level in university as a sprinter and long jumper."At the end of the episode, his advice for people in living a fulfilling life was to stay off social media. Take into account that he's had Instagram for maybe 2 years. He doesn't really engage with trolls because most of them have never directly asked him a question when he's presented or in an email or dm. He truly only goes on to post valuable content that he believes in and already has amassed 22.7 thousand followers and he's not concerned about likes. He knows what he's talking about with this approach. Worry less about likes and validation and focus more on working on your craft and learning in the process.I've seen Lee present in Kansas City and here in Edmonton and he is definitely one of my favourite presenters for his ability to captivate and educate. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed our conversation. Please share with a friend. Get full access to Insight by Chris Liddle at chrisliddle.substack.com/subscribe

Episode 107 - Rob Raposo and Kayla Maynard
Robert Raposo, Kayla Maynard and their three kids are getting a lot more quality time this week with the whole world in the middle of the Covid-19 Pandemic. This power couple are the brains and talent behind Brave Fox Coffee, a Beaumont, Alberta based coffee roaster. You can find their products on their website or locally in Beaumont. Rob's main job is a Fire Captain/Primary Care Paramedic working in the Fort McMurray area. This episode wasn't just about coffee though. We talked about how they each found mediation in their own way and how really it wasn't as easy as go try it once and everything is all better. You have to a routine in order to keep structure. Their routine also incorporates fitness, eating well, and drinking coffee. The need for routine also applies to being intuitive to the needs of each of their three kids. Every kid is different, whether that be in their life at home or their life at school, just like all kids.We talked about how important it is to ask for help in times of need, we talked about pregnancy and parenting and the pivotal role that teachers play and what it can feel like when they're not there. We talked about life in high school and how some people can change you forever, and some people can be around for years. We talked about loss and struggles that young people can have where all they need is someone to be there to just listen. It's a pretty jam packed episode. Give it a listen and share with a friend. Episode 106 - James Cerbie
The easiest way to intro James is that he is a highly educated meathead who loves lifting but would always put his family first. He's the founder and co owner of Rebel Performance which is essentially a happy fun place in the internet where smart strong people go to get smarter and stronger. Keep in mind we are recording this in the middle of a worldwide pandemic so some of the perspective you get is likely to be helpful if you are also finding yourself in the middle of a worldwide pandemic (that's all of you). We talked about sustaining your fitness with home workouts, how to keep on keeping on when you have to lean out your finances, and we even talked about core values. There is a segment in which James lists off a whole bunch of people he admires, which says a lot about who he is. He's always looking to learn from the people around him and his attitude has provided him many opportunities to do just that. It's like the smarter you get the dumber you realize you really are. We talked about goals, structuring how to achieve them, and how sometimes it's best to just work at something and be good at it. We can let other people speak highly of us, as it will go much further than standing around puffing out our chest saying how awesome we are. Rebel Performance Radio, which is part of what James does, is a podcast that I've listened to frequently amongst many others. But it's one where I get to learn more about a lot of the people that influence how or why I do things. So if that intrigues you, check it out. Episode 105 - Dr. Lisa Lewis
Dr. Lisa Lewis is a psychologist who is a therapist by trade. Also, if you're looking for strong women, she is a great role model for you, she lifts heavy and leads her life with integrity. She has a great love for all things athletic. If you've been following her for a while or have listened to her other appearances on podcasts, you'll have some context of one of her very close connections to the fitness industry of which we didn't need to point out today because #IWD is not just a one day thing. We can showcase him on his own episode :P.Something that I gave a HUGE highlight to is her new course, Psych Skills for Fitness Pros, available on her website drlewisconsulting.com . Lisa and I talked about spinning, decision matrix, I asked her about her thoughts on the expression "Gas lighting" being something I've seen pop up a lot on social media because I think ALL of my listeners experience it in their life in various realms as they learn to navigate boundaries and work through their obstacles.I got kind of real to give more opportunities for people to relate to maybe something they're going through. I think we all just need to put stuff out on the table sometimes. We talked about self image and insecurity. We talked about putting a greater focus on our strengths so we don't lash out at others over our weaknesses. Make personal progress each day, don't worry about comparing. We talked about arbitrary reference and about the struggles we all have with navigating the work it takes to stay healthy or find connection. Episode 104 - Lucy Hendricks
To put things into perspective, Lucy Hendricks isn't just on the podcast because she's a female fitness professional and I want to even out the playing field for International Women's Day. However I did make sure we mentioned IWD because if you give me a microphone I'll say what I think is important.Lucy Hendricks is on the podcast because she has an influence on many prominent male fitness professionals in the greater industry. The ways in which she does what she does has the power to make a lasting, sustainable impact on others as well as the people they interact with. I greatly respect that. To be quite honest with you, I've been following her for a while, probably 2 years. My male fit pro friends that I've learned from told me that she was someone that I should be following. So I did. A few weeks ago, she shared something in her Instagram story that just hit me so I messaged her to see if she could come on the podcast to talk about it. It correlated so much with topics that come up in my life nearly every day.I want to make an impact in more than just the generic run of the mill fitness career in the lives of not only my clients and people in the gym but also my close friends and family. This stuff is real.If I'm lucky, it will have a trickle down effect and the people I positively impact will then be in a place where they can positively impact the people that surround them, or be better positioned to hold space in a very life changing way. I'm hyping this episode up more than what I typically do, not as a disservice to my wonderful past guests who I admire, but the topics discussed were really important to me. It took a lot of courage for Lucy to talk about it all and she put a lot of trust in me as her host to be the one to publish it on audio. Without hype, you may just think it's just another episode of the many that I put out.Take that as a sign. It's not just another podcast episode.I hope this episode inspires you to dive into some of the past episodes of The Lifestyle Chase, hear the other very real stories, or really go down the rabbit hole with my daily Real Talk episodes. I hope you enjoy this episode, take time to check on your strong friends and remember that no matter what it looks like on social media, we're all out there having shitty days sometimes. Episode 102 - Michael Dietrich
Michael "Mountain Mike" Dietrich is a guy who walks his talk. You probably follow his dog Bear-Bear on Instagram already but if you haven't met him yet, he is someone who works hard towards anything that he is passionate about. We talk about how you have no clue where you will be 5 years from where you are today. We talk about the value of travelling to the mountains as well as basic advice for anyone in the fitness industry. We talk about working at a bar and how that can build your capacity for expressing empathy as well as relating to people. We talk about being hippy dippy, doing some self reflection or being introspective is so important. Michael doesn't want to take any day for granted and aspires to lead his life collecting experiences instead of things. A lot of us feel like we need to check boxes or know what is next but sometimes it's best to just put your best foot forward, surround yourself with people who believe you can be naked and afraid or live in your RV or simply people who believe in the best version of you. Trainers burn out, we get wrapped up in our cell phones, we sell ourselves short, we take on challenges that we don't know if we can follow through with. Trainers are human just like anyone else, feeling self conscious, not hearing compliments clearly, forgetting our abilities, needing downtime, feeling worn out and having no energy are all things we go through. It was a great conversation. Please share on social media and thank you for supporting The Lifestyle Chase! Get full access to Insight by Chris Liddle at chrisliddle.substack.com/subscribe

Episode 101 - Lazina McKenzie
If nothing else, listen to this episode so that you can hear a white personal trainer say that it's important to have brown female representation on the walls of a Lululemon in a city as racially diverse as Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. We dove down some rabbits holes today. We used white people, brown people terms a lot. We talked about cultural diversity. We talked about learning to admire what makes everyone in our lives great rather than what makes them different. We talked about her experiences being a born in Canada but brown and hearing a genuine "Welcome to Canada". This is another one of those "could have gone on for hours" episodes. Not only did we talk about what November Project means to Lazina and how she feels like a badass, we also talked about what her best connections have been, or at least some that stood out to her today. We talked about her experience being raised in a brown family around white people and how her parents wanted her to go skiing. We talked about celebrating different holidays, and we talked about travelling. Lazina used to be a personal trainer so we talked about her experience with that and about really pivotal conversations in her life. We talked about what she admires about her husband. That's more than enough reasons to give this one a listen. Thanks for supporting The Lifestyle Chase :). Get full access to Insight by Chris Liddle at chrisliddle.substack.com/subscribe

Episode 100 - Carter Good
Carter Good is someone who is very smart by nature, he's lost close to 150 lbs, he's moved around the country, he's had to follow his intuition and he likes the intricacies of the process of making wine. We talked about what life was like for him 10 years ago, we talked about his self awareness, and we talked about times he's doubted himself. He really strives off of being in control of his time and we discussed how he's benefited from investing more into meaningful friendships and relationships. We talked about saying no more often or blocking off certain days for certain tasks and we talked about how when you think the fitness industry is saturated, it doesn't mean that everyone is being reached. I hope you enjoy this episode and be sure to tag @cartergood and myself, @christianliddle, @thelifestylechase in a screenshot of the episode! For the full episode transcript, go here https://www.invigoratetraining.com/post/the-lifestyle-chase-transcript-episode-100-carter-good-2-13-20 Get full access to Insight by Chris Liddle at chrisliddle.substack.com/subscribe

Episode 99 - Torbjørn "Thor" Pedersen
This episode is for anyone who would be interested in the perspective of someone who is in the midst of travelling every country in the world without flying on a plane. He has less than a dozen left before he completes a journey that has taken him over 6 years. Thor has a fiance with whom he's maintained a strong relationship this entire time. He speaks to times where he wasn't sure he was going to get out of a situation alive, and he also speaks to the countries who were extremely welcoming or gracious hosts. Something that stood out to me about Thor is his view of the world that people are people. It's important to understand that there is so much we can gain from networking within our communities and maybe communities beyond where we live. Understanding that although we don't all look the same, there is something at our core which is not all that different. Thor has a perspective you won't get anywhere else, because nobody else has ever done exactly what he is doing. We talked a little bit about how his journey, "Once Upon a Saga" began, we talked about the countless times it would have been easier to just get on a plane and go home, we talked about the countries he's had to stay in for over a hundred days and the countries he'd live in if he didn't settle down in Denmark. When Thor completes his journey, his goal is to write a book about this experience and really expand on his motivational speaking. He's been featured on VICE, BBC, Lonely Planet, National Geographic, Forbes, Al Jazeera, The Guardian, News.com.au, The National and ABC. You can find him by searching Once Upon a Saga. Episode 98 - Jeb Johnston
Jeb Johnston has lived through dark times in his life involving addiction and just the general life of being a musician working amidst the nightlife. He hasn't always been the jacked bald guy you see him as today. He was once a hair stylist for super models that were making appearances on magazine covers amongst many other things. He's one of the only people I've talked to that considers doing the dishes as something to be grateful for, but it makes you stop and think when he says it the way he does. Jeb is someone who continually works on himself by surrounding himself with the likes of Dr. Lisa Lewis, Dr. Ben House, and Dr. Pat Davidson who are also people I admire and respect. We talk about how important it is to listen sometimes, rather than speak. He enjoys Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but is also passionate about music. He eats to train but also travels to eat. We cover a lot of topics and there is a lot that you can learn from Jeb, who is a Nutrition Coach for Stronger U and a writer for many well known fitness publications and is also going to be one of the presenters for the upcoming Inland Empire Fitness Conference in Spokane. Episode 97 - Scott McWalter
Scott McWalter is one of the best that Prince George, BC has to offer. He even highlighted others in his community in our episode so if your ears are ringing maybe you should check it out. Part of this episode is almost like a tourism commercial which really shows you that Scott is someone who applies his positive attitude to life and what surrounds him and gets personal and professional results from it.We talk about family and goals and staying motivated through even our roughest days. We talk about Scott's experiences in chasing greatness in his career as well as the impact that participating in and leading spin class has had on him. Fitness is a big part of his life, but his main career right now is in marketing. We talk about technology and how it impacts our ability to tune into the people right in front of us. We talk about long his experiences with Iron Man and why he admires Terry Fox, and his big goal for 2030 which he will work on bit by bit over the course of the next 10 years. It's easy to look back to 2010 and be like "that was just yesterday" but for some reason it's a daunting task to plan to succeed in 2030.I came across Scott McWalter when I was first thinking about starting The Lifestyle Chase. I was talking about it with my friend Blake Fillion. Blake Fillion had a clear understanding of where I wanted to go with the podcast and he told me all about Scott and the kind of person he is. So I started off the podcast with Blake as my first guest, and went from there. Seeking out guests always comes with a great deal of variability. There are so many podcasts to choose from, I have to make it less about who it is and more about the things that we talk about or the conversations we have. With that being said, the journey never really ends. There will always be something to learn, always a way to improve, and always something to be grateful for. Thank you for supporting me in this journey of mine. As more episodes get released, you may find that you can only see the most recent ones on iTunes or Spotify. Episode 96 - Austin Current
Today I had a really reflective conversation with Austin Current. He's a deep thinker just like me and really needs to trust the people that surround him. We talk about being in a good environment and positioning ourselves to be pursuing things that we are good at in a way that we can still seek challenge. We talk not only about fitness but about Austin's high school experience, times of doubt, how he's gotten to know himself better and how he's had to learn how to disassociate from his identity being what he does such as his past as an athlete in team sports and make it more about being associated with his identity in how he does ANYTHING. Austin started in the fitness industry when he made his debut to the physique stage in 2013. In 2014, he earned his IFBB Pro status and shortly after started to take on clients in-person and online. In 2016, Austin graduated with a degree in Exercise Science and earned his NSCA-CSCS certification. Austin currently resides in Colorado with his wife, KaSandra. That last paragraph came straight from his website and I was lucky to get the opportunity to really fill in the gaps in our visit today. Please share this episode on social and you can learn more about Austin by checking out his podcast, Life Beyond Fitness or following him @austincurrent_ . Episode 95 - Shawn Adair
Shawn Adair is one of the only personal trainers I know of that trained people out of his apartment building by putting rubber mats and a rack in the living room. He quickly moved on to open up The Bar, based out of Vancouver, BC. He casually talked about jumping a gap at the Grand Canyon like it was just another day whereas I get anxious if I see a cliff's edge on an IMAX movie. Shawn has really set himself apart with a high energy personality, crazy work ethic, passion for continuing education and attention to detail. A lot of leaders in the industry go to him to refine their skills in strict muscle ups and just performance based training. Working out the inefficiencies. Shawn is also FST certified which has benefited him in a huge way with how he works with his clients. I hope you enjoy this episode, be sure to tag us on social media when you listen, give it a nice rating, and check out some of the other episodes. You can see all the episodes ever released at http://thelifestylechase.podbean.com . As more of these episodes get released alongside my Real Talk short segments, you will find that only the most recent 100 episodes show up in iTunes and Spotify. Some alumni guests whose names you may recognize are Jill Coleman, Dean Somerset, Jordan Syatt, Carl Paoli, Jen Kish and countless others both inside and outside of the fitness industry. Episode 94 - Marc Morris
Marc Morris is a nationally ranked powerlifter. He's competed successfully in Men's physique, he's highly educated with a Ph.D. in Human Nutrition, and over 10 years of experience as an online nutrition coach. He's been lifting weights since the age of 16 and has always been hyper focused towards getting to where he wants to be. He's an academic who lifts. There's more to Marc though. We talk about seeing what someone else has, or where someone else is in their life and just wanting it so bad that you essentially replicate it and where that works and where we need to just figure out who WE are and just be that. We talk about how important it is that our biggest passion is in something greater than ourselves, and not just in making ourselves into who we think we should be. Marc talked about losing his dad suddenly due to a heart attack, he talked about his wife's battle with cancer shortly after they got married and how she shared her journey to help others going through the same thing. He talked about becoming a dad, and navigating post secondary wondering what it had in store for him. For being a pretty stoic dude he really opened up in this episode which meant a lot to me. Near the end I made sure to get him to talk about nutrition for a couple minutes to keep this on par for the course as a fitness podcast. But then we brought it back to the things in life that make him feel like he's living it to the fullest. Dr. Marc Morris, is the founder of Polyhealth as well as being a certified strength coach. I hope you enjoy this episode, please share The Lifestyle Chase with a friend. To learn more about what Marc brings to the table by looking him up online simply by googling him, because he's a pretty popular guy, or listening to his episode with my friends at The Fitness Devil Podcast. Episode 93 - Laurel Clouston AKA Laur Elle
Here is some backstory into how I found Laurel. Back when I was a spin instructor at Tru Ride Cycle, Alexa Huntley was a regular in a lot of my 6 AM classes. Bless her heart. That's a tough time to wake up for cardio. In any case, she would be the hype person for her friend, Laurel. So I started following @iamlaur.elle on Instagram. After checking out her music on Spotify, I was like "wow, I like this, this is awesome". As a result, I became a fan. The funny thing is, as a podcast host, you find yourself reaching out to a lot of people living really different lives. They're busy, they have a lot going on. I would have to say for every 5 people I reach out to, to be on the podcast, 1 of them becomes a guest. Initially, I reached out to Laurel in December 2018, but because she has a lot of messages to filter through, it fell through the cracks. December 2019, she found the message and got back to me to see if it was too delayed for a reply. Of course it wasn't, because I had really gotten the hang of the podcast thing by then and her relevancy as a guest was still relevant. In this episode, we talk about gymnastics, fitness, moving around a lot, having parents who work hard for their dreams and for HER dreams. Laurel shares about how she finished her schooling to be a teacher but didn't choose to pursue it. She talks about the feeling of support that she found she needed, she talks about travel, and she talks about moments when she felt joy. You should definitely listen. I added a call to action at the very beginning of the episode, and I'm going to tag some Lifestyle Chase alumni whom I believe can help get Laur Elle out there. You should check out her music. I genuinely enjoy it, she didn't pay me to say that, I promise. Thanks for supporting me and listening to The Lifestyle Chase. Episode 92 - Jill Coleman
I invite you to google, "Jill Coleman Fitness" and see what comes up. It's one of the most efficient intros that I can give her, because she has such a depth of experience in person and online in business and in her personal life. She walks the talk. Instead of the incessant manipulation that can occur in fitness and in life, she demonstrates clear communication, she's learned self awareness, and she's a good human being which goes a long way in my books. She was able to talk about so many of her moments where she learned or had to pivot, or where she had to feel alone, or where she had to lean into a friendship or partnership or a business. There are so many risks that can come up for a person when you are looking for a mentor or a business coach or even looking for a person to share anything in your life with, because of the pursuit of fame or wealth or ego or lack of self awareness. It was a pleasure to bring Jill Coleman on, because she has truly had to pay to play in the industry, and she's become resilient through what she's been through. She has taken no shortcuts in life, and it is truly something worth admiring. Hope you enjoy! Thanks for listening! Get full access to Insight by Chris Liddle at chrisliddle.substack.com/subscribe

Episode 91 - Andrea Rice
Andrea Rice is many things. A former teacher, a runner, a swimmer, a small banana enthusiast, a leader, a learner, a friend, a family member. She has had to adapt and change and pivot whether she expected it or not and in this episode we talk about how much of a struggle that can be when you are used to knowing exactly what to expect or knowing exactly what the future holds. We define what community feels like, rather than focusing on what it's intended to sound like. We talk about growing up and craving the silence of turtles and fishing and cold winters and we talk about Kenora, Ontario. We talk about friendships and social media and having fitness as a non-negotiable. We talk about meditation and journalling and writing nice notes to brighten someone's day. Now go listen! Episode 90 - Pete McGregor
Pete is originally from Glasgow Scotland, moving to Edmonton at a young age he lived a typical young boy life until an impaired driver and a multi-vehicle accident changed his life. After many phases of life as a highly competitive wheel chair basketball athlete and later as a post secondary student trying to live that 9-5 life, Pete McGregor now trains out of 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu in San Diego. He's a high performer who works his ass off. He trains harder than anyone he faces, often having to compete with more able bodied people and sets himself apart in how he shows up in the world despite what could easily be deemed as a viable excuse. He fights excuses. That's not to say that he doesn't have the struggles that other people have with finding motivation. It's not to say that he feels ready to kick ass day in and day out, or that he doesn't hear that negative voice in his head telling him to just mail it in or quit. We talk about all that in this episode as well as the coaches that have impacted him, his core values in life, and places that he's really enjoyed travelling to. Please share this episode with a friend, rate in on Apple Podcasts and don't ever take tomorrow for granted, because no matter how good we feel today, tomorrow is not guaranteed. Episode 89 - Carl Paoli on Connection, Community, Feeling Alone, Good People and Staying Positive
I brought Carl Paoli back for another episode. He's done a lot in his life so far and you can learn a little more about him in Episode 71 if you haven't already. A quick google, YouTube, or Amazon search will also help give you some context as to what kinds of things he's done leading up to today. We really leaned into our topics today coming up with questions and answers that weren't necessarily what we are used to hearing. I was inspired to choose these topics based on what my friends on Instagram have shared with me. We talked about how Integrity has become the goto word of 2019 and what that word means to our life's journey when you break it down. We talk about the word Authenticity and how it makes us feel. We talked about finding connection in life and fostering community. We talked about the topic of feeling lonely when not many people around us share our values. We talked about how to see more good and how often we feel that good people are hard to come by. We talked about staying positive during a holiday when you have very few reasons to feel positive. I hope you enjoy, please like and share! Get full access to Insight by Chris Liddle at chrisliddle.substack.com/subscribe

Episode 88 - Jason Leenaarts
We covered a lot of material. A LOT of material. For context, Jason's Business, Revolution Fitness and Therapy has been around for a long time. I got to meet Jason at the most recent Fitness Summit at Kansas City. So you might think at first, "oh here's another fitnessy guy talking about fitnessy things and how happy he is that he gets to watch people work out. I bet he's never had to call 911 to say he was worried he was going to die by suicide.". False. And yes, I know that's a little dramatic, but if I didn't point that out, would it get your attention?I think that the topics we cover are going to be helpful to people who listen to The Lifestyle Chase and for people who listen to Revolutionary You for that matter. We talk about how it took 8 months of seeing different therapists for Jason to find the one that essentially saved his life. We talk about what it was like being addicted to drugs for the better part of a decade. We talk about his journey as a dad and what being the father of a child with autism has taught him as a human being. Even just being a father of either of his two very loved children and the dynamics of having two kids with two marriages. I think we spent about 4 minutes talking about fitness marketing as well. So there's that. I really hope you enjoy this episode and share it. Thank you for supporting The Lifestyle Chase and be sure to show Jason some love and check out his new book available on Amazon! Episode 87 - Ben Fanelli
Ben Fanelli is a former OHL hockey player, currently an assistant coach at the University of Waterloo. He is the host of another podcast with similar visions of The Lifestyle Chase called Heroic Minds. He has a clothing brand called the Heroic Clothing Company. He also has the Empwr foundation which advocates for better awareness about concussions to advance treatment for the injury. High level professional athletes have partnered with him to make for a better future in sport. He wants to help others in ways that are empowering, and he loves the feeling of working through the obstacles life throws by peeling back the layers of the situation at hand. Episode 86 - Jen Kish
Jen Kish is someone a lot of people look up to, not only here in Canada, but from all over the world. Her time as Captain taught her a lot about what being a leader means. We gave shout outs to a lot of our favourite people, talked about what we each bring to the fitness industry, and just had a lot of fun talking about whatever was on our mind. Episode 84 - Ryan Martin
Have you ever heard of Jack.org? That's just the tip of the iceberg in this episode where I talked to Ryan Martin. You may remember Episode 25 of The Lifestyle Chase where the focus was Mental Health. I had my friend Blake Loates join to share a small part of her story. Mental health is something that is talked about time and time again on this podcast because I believe it is something we can all equip our toolboxes to handle. Ryan Martin is an inspired individual who decided one day that he was going to cycle across Canada from coast to coast to raise awareness and funds for Mental Health (www.mindcycle.ca). I have a Terry Fox quote tattooed on my arm, so you can see where this would be the kind of project that would get my attention. We talk about how one of his most emotional moments was the moment that he made it to the other end of the country with all of his loved ones around him and the knowledge that he had raised $125 000 for the cause. We talk about a time in his life where it was less about preparing for the day and more about falling into it and how that felt. Going to parties surrounded by friends and good times and going home feeling empty. We talked about the sensation of loneliness and the power of self awareness, and self talk. We talk about the power of transparency when it comes to speaking to audiences of Youth who may not know that they have what it takes to take control over their health. Ryan works for jack.org which starts more conversations with youth and spreads more awareness about how and where to get help for mental health through the power of having young people talk to young people. The story of how Jack.org was started was really touching to me, because I have seen people lose a loved one in their life who showed no signs, and this is the best way I know how to fight for the lives of others who also may not show the signs.I hope you enjoy this episode and share it around. Episode 83 - Nathaniel Agoye
Nathaniel (Nate) Agoye is a Personal Trainer based out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We started following each other on social media about 2 years ago. He's just always struck me as being someone I could relate to. In our episode together, we talked about his first time going to the gym with his mom - what that was like, why he was there, what motivated him, how he felt at that time in his life. He's someone who has been accused of using steroids and he's someone who has battled mental health obstacles. He's had to overcome heartbreak, yet he also found love. We talked about what his definition of the essence of a person was and what he saw in the people he surrounded himself with. We talked about the work it takes to be in a devoted relationship, we talked about having faith, we talked about love languages, we talked about his best advice for someone with a fitness business. It's all discussion that can be beneficial to anyone who listens. Hope you enjoy, please share on social media and rate on iTunes/Apple Podcasts. Episode 82 - Chris Liddle on Vision Quests, Ripple Effects, Leading without a title, Time to Pivot, Learning through vulnerability and Communication
This is the second consecutive solo episode where I focus on some topics I wanted to talk about. I talk about what I mean when I talk about going on a vision quest, I talk about making a ripple effect in the lives of others, I talk about how leadership doesn't mean having the title of leader which is something that always reminds me of Robin Sharma's book "The Leader Who Had No Title". I talk about time to pivot and how it relates to assessing your "why" and what you are feeling in your current environment. I also talk about how learning through the vulnerability of others can help to shift perspective in your own situations, sometimes it makes you realize you aren't struggling as much as you think or sometimes it gives you a new outlook on what you can do to move forward. Finally, I reflect on communication and the importance of honesty and transparency in all aspects of life. I hope you enjoy this one, I promise I'll have a guest for the next episode but in the meantime, the ratings on iTunes have been noticed - it means a great deal and helps me grow the audience of the podcast. If you enjoy this one, please share with a friend or shoot me a message to say you're listening to it. Thank you for the support!! Episode 81 - Chris Liddle on Life Right Now
This is a solo episode where I talk about what is going well. I talk about what I would do if I only had 2 years left in my life. I talk a little bit about perseverance, motivation, and dedication, and I talk about finding contentment. I go off on quite a few tangents and share some life experiences from travelling, or just life experiences that I've found to be beneficial or things that I think are important. If you enjoy this one, let me know. If you enjoy The Lifestyle Chase, please head over to Apple Podcasts and give me a rating and a review! Episode 80 - Yvonne Camus
I met Yvonne during my time with Tru Ride as a spin instructor. She was there with Dana and Farha for my audition and rode in many of my early 6:00 AM classes and rallied many other people to join her which meant a lot to me personally. In this episode we talk about her experiences in the past year working for one of the fastest growing franchises in Canada. Episode 79 - Ryan William Jones
This episode has a big focus on mental health.Ryan and I didn't even know each other before recording this. I've started to notice more and more authors and podcast hosts following my stories on Instagram and every so often I do a little research on the people to see what they're about. During a month full of people in my life going through a lot of things revolving around mental health I stumbled across Ryan Jones who once stood on the ledge of a building - ready to leave everything. I looked into his posts, checked his website, looked at previews of his book, he seemed legit. There is so much fake in the internet it was like right place right time. Ryan talks about who he admires in his life, who he owes a lot of gratitude to, and the importance of having a community or a group and communicating with the people in it. He talks about how journaling turned into book writing. We talk about dad jokes and how to stay motivated amidst constant rejection while battling depression. He's doing a lot of really cool things now, when it could have gone totally different. I am really grateful that I had the opportunity to connect with Ryan today. Episode 78 - Mike Doehla
Mike Doehla is the founder and CEO of Stronger U Nutrition, he's got a pretty good gig. It didn't come without focusing on the little things. People first, be yourself, get in front of people more, put in the time even if you aren't getting paid. Spending more time in coffee shops than click funnels has brought him a lot of momentum so far and he's collected a pretty strong team. We expanded on my theory about dogs making people better at lifting, we talked about travelling, we talked about his old banking job, we talked a tiny bit about HR, we talked about core values, we talked about a couple people he looks up to, we talked about people who stood out to him at his first Kansas City Fitness Summit, we talked about game of thrones and we talked about scrambled eggs and chia seeds. Actually that last part was me, I was talking, but he was listening, and that's what makes him a good guy. Mike is a very real, good guy. Make sure you check this one out and share it in your story. Especially you, Dean Guedo. Get full access to Insight by Chris Liddle at chrisliddle.substack.com/subscribe

Episode 77 - Alex McBrairty
Alex and I first really bonded over the "Awkward Turtle" signal which he showed me in Kansas City. It's a great way to signal distress to your peers if someone is ever embarrassing you in front of Bret Contreras. Alex McBrairty is the kind of guy where we could have had a 5 hour long podcast episode. Fortunately for you, we reigned it in. There was a moment in this one where he made a dramatic pause and I thought I lost the connection with him in the video feed. Didn't even edit that out - I hope you enjoy it. THAT is how dramatic his pause was. All jokes aside, Alex McBrairty is someone who is very passionate about what he does and loves to support his peers. He is creative, has recently had the opportunity to fulfill his desires for travel and being social, and has an ice cream recipe for you that will keep you on track with your fitness goals. Episode 76 - Tara Gaucher
Today I had a great visit with Tara Gaucher, we gave a shout out to my good friend Dustin, we talked a little bit about Carl Paoli, I gave a shout out to Edith, one of my podcast listeners and we dove down a whole bunch of rabbit holes. We talked about Big Hairy Audacious Goals, we talked about risky jumps, we talked about travelling, we talked about how awkward I can be when I order food, we talked about getting cab rides, we talked about water that you can't drink and water that you can drink. There are a lot of times in our life where things don't quite go as we planned. We highlighted a few moments where Tara realized "what am I doing here!?". We talked about the value of travel. We talked about the value of minimalism. We talked about how hard people can be on themselves and the benefits of going out of your way to show up for yourself like you would for a loved on. Tara has a very diverse list of jobs she has done in her past and a wealth of good old fashioned life experience. I enjoyed our conversation so I hope you do too. Episode 75 - Anthony Do
Anthony Do is a film maker who got his start via a passion for telling stories of his travels. He is incredibly creative but at the same time extremely hard on himself. He called me from Iceland where he is currently Hafþór Björnsson's videographer. Anyone not knowing who that is, it's The Mountain from Game of Thrones also known as one of the strongest men in the world. Anthony has worked for a lot of high profile clients and learned a lot of valuable lessons so far in his life. We had a great conversation and even got to catch up about things we were doing off the air as well. Thank you for listening and please share with your friends.
