Episode 209 - Dr. Briana Botsford on Women‘s Health, A Sense of Connection, and Motherhood
Dr. Briana Botsford (@docbribots on IG) is a Naturopathic Doctor in Edmonton with a passion for helping her patients solve their health mysteries. As a member of the local triathlon community, you might catch her in full spandex on the weekends cycling or running in Edmonton’s glorious river valley. She has a family farm north of the city where she grows an epic vegetable garden in the summer. Because of her interest and participation in sport, Dr. Botsford completed her education focus in sports medicine. As her career progressed, she began working with more and more women, who may or may not be athletes, but also have health issues. Her special interest is in women’s health and performance and she works with all humans to achieve their peak health and optimal well-being. Dr. Botsford loves to explain things. She strongly believes that doctors are teachers and wants to help you understand your health concerns. She believes information is power and when you know more, you can live better! Before she became an ND, Dr. Botsford had issues with severe menstrual pain that would make it impossible to train properly and caused her to take time off work. Mood swings and a history of depression left her questioning the impact her hormones were having on her quality of life. Seeking care from a ND allowed Dr. Botsford to successfully compete in ironman triathlons and inspired her to go back to school to become a naturopathic doctor. Episode 204 - Mike Doehla on Why We Do “This” and What Matters Most
This might sound a bit biased but if you’re in the industries that Mike Doehla (@mikedoehla) and I are in, you should listen to this podcast. This episode truly exemplifies the purpose, vision and values of The Lifestyle Chase. We recorded this about 30 minutes after I received news that my aunt (who was essentially my grandma) passed away the night before. I shared with Mike that I’d maybe seem a bit distant because I wanted him to know what was going on in case I seemed a bit off. I never want people to feel like I don’t value their time or that I’m not engaged in the conversation and he was one of the best people I could have ever recorded with that day. We talked about how Facebook and Instagram crashed for a day, and what we learned from it. He shared with me the emotions that fatherhood brings him as a new dad. We discussed how meaningful it is to do what you love in life and how he wants nothing more than to see more people enjoy their work and have happy lives. I’d love it if you shared this one on social media. Tag @mikedoehla, @christianliddle, and @thelifestylechase www.invigoratetraining.com {This episode is dedicated to my Aunt Helen. She loved cats and she had a warm energy that made everyone feel loved. I’ll make her proud one day.} Get full access to Insight by Chris Liddle at chrisliddle.substack.com/subscribe

Episode 203 A Solo Episode with Chris Liddle Telling You Some of What Pays The Bills
The full explanation for this solo episode is that I had previously recorded with Will Crozier and the audio didn't record - only video. So him and I will record a brand new episode in the near future. I had pre recorded an episode with Mike Doehla that had already been produced as Episode 204, so to make life easier, I came up with a replacement Episode 203. In this episode I reflect on the last few years and give a detailed run down of some of the things that pay my bills. I say some of the things because I have worked very hard this past year to line up a lot of opportunities so if you know me personally you might see me in more roles than what I mention here on the show. I talk about the importance of enrolling people your goals and knowing your value. It's a bit of a ramble but if you enjoy it, it would mean a lot if you shared it on social media and rated the show on apple podcasts. Thank you so much for checking out the show. Episode 201 - Patrycia Rzechowka on Reframing Situations and Seeing Life Through Someone Else’s Lens
Patrycia (@rzechowka on IG) was first on the show waaaay back on November 29, 2018! It was Episode 15 and life was very different, yet at the same time, not entirely different. Not many people take the time to consider what life would be like for someone with MS. In a time when people are getting upset about their rights and freedoms, they are rarely considering how their actions can put someone like Patrycia in danger. Patrycia is a champion at reframing situations and putting her best foot forward. We are all allowed to have a bad day, but when we are able to see that life is short and time is precious, attitude matters. I highly encourage everyone to go to Patrycia’s website http://patryciarzechowka.com to learn more about her and definitely go back and listen to Episode 15 as well here. Episode 200 - Junil Rodriguez on Leaving Parties Early, Owning Real Estate and the Cornfield Chase
Wow. First of all, Episode 200. It’s pretty monumental. Please go back through the guests over the last 3 years and give a few more episodes a listen when you’re done this one. Now onto Junil. Junil Rodriguez (@thejunmethod) is a New York-based trainer with a skillset that stems from years of experience outside the industry. No matter what people say about experience within the industry, your ability to develop a business sense and people skills outside of the fitness industry will give you an edge once you make the leap. The tough part is finding balance. We talked about Junil’s introverted tendencies and how she stays organized for her day. We talked about her big plans and the little things that bring her joy. If you’re wondering about the Cornfield Chase, it’s a Hans Zimmer song which I just added into the title to see if you were paying attention. If you know Junil you will likely know about a dozen of the other guests on this show and you should definitely check out their episodes too. To help The Lifestyle Chase THRIVE, please go out of your way to leave a nice review and a rating and share it widely with all the people you know. We talked about how trolling and unfollowing can be tough to handle on social media and went over a few of the things that we need to remember when it comes to what goes on in a cell phone vs. what goes on in real life. Episode 193 - Carmen Choney on Creating Connections, Staying Loyal, and Being Aware
You miss out on a lot if you focus only on one place, or one person or one thing. This is why The Lifestyle Chase isn’t always a discussion revolving around fitness. Today’s guest is Carmen Choney or @thatssocarmen on IG. She’s a powerhouse in the country music industry but her job description isn’t limited to one simple title. She thrives when she feels the purpose that life on the road brings, and like everyone, sometimes it tests her to her physical limits. In this episode we talked about the awareness of self as well as the awareness of others. Being prepared for what could happen is how Carmen has had such a lengthy career. We talked about the value of having a community you can count on, and the importance of not only focussing on what you notice in people, but in what other people notice. For some it may be eye contact, yet for others it might be our individual weirdness. Loyalty and respect was a theme of discussion in our conversation and it applies in anyone’s life. Staying loyal and respecting others is the difference between a 20 year career and a 3 year career. I hope you get as much value from this conversation with Carmen as I did, and keep your eyes open as she continues to make big moves. Near the end we talked about what Case would tell someone if they just got ghosted or dumped, and he gave the audience a challenge for the day. I highly recommend going back to the old episode to see the growth of both Case and myself. Episode 191 - Dean Somerset on How To Stay Busy When Boredom Is Disguised as Burnout
This is Dean Somerset’s second appearance on The Lifestyle Chase having last appeared on the show on February 5, 2019. I describe Dean as the G.O.A.T. of YEG Fitness. He doesn’t always get the recognition I feel he deserves and a number of past guests of the show are actually his clients. So if there was ever any doubt, Dean is the man. We skipped past the origin story as it’s something we went over in episode 28 and dove right into the topics pertaining to the last year. Episode 190 - Tony Gentilcore on Complimenting Others and Non-Confrontational Introvert Things
Tony Gentilcore (@tonygentilcore on IG) is widely known in the greater fitness industry and is the kind of person who if you took away his social media, he’d still have a large following. Some of that is to do with the volume of content he has produced, some of it is to do with the amount of presentations he’s done, and I’d be willing to bet, some of it is how he treats every interaction he has. Granted nobody is absolutely flawless - and we talked about that. We talked about the importance of being yourself, being authentic and staying in your scope of practice. This episode was honestly packed with takeaways - many people got shout outs and there were a lot of things we talked about that might change how you see a situation. Gavin has had the unique once in a lifetime experience of being a backup emergency goalie for the NHL. He repped a Carolina Jersey and has memories that will likely last a lifetime. We dove into how to set goals and how to know when your life really isn’t that balanced. We reflected on the value of meditation and writing out our beliefs and what we’re grateful for. Sometimes you just can’t do everything or sometimes you can lose track of how much time goes into the things that don’t serve you. Episode 188 - Jordan Syatt, Just Two Bald White Guys Talking About Therapy
Jordan Syatt (@syattfitness) has been on the show once before (Episode 70) so we skipped past the origin story, skipped Gary V, and dove right in. We talked about the importance of your environment and having tools to check on your own well being. Think blood pressure. Jordan shared some of his experiences in learning to let go of helping everyone (even family) and focusing on the people in front of him who were ready for his help. We discussed the importance of focussing on the clients you have, not worrying about the rest of the world or who you’ve yet to work with. We identified how difficult it can be exist on social media when people are looking at what they see through a lens instead of looking for the context behind the person they are looking at. Does this person have their own struggles? How long have they been doing what they do? Where do they live? What are their experiences? Jordan is one of the most easily findable personalities in fitness but if you want to track him down, head to @syattfitness on IG as well as most other platforms, or google his name and you’ll be able to go down quite a rabbit hole. Lee Boyce (@coachleeboyce) was last on the show in March 2020 for Episode 108 - just ahead of most of the closures here in North America. He works in academia, he presents around the world, and is one of the most widely published people I have had the pleasure of interviewing. We reflected on the struggles that came up this past year and how he realized he had been burning the candle at both ends. We talked about the takeaways of going to conferences and the colleagues and friends that inspire us to keep working. As Lee said, this industry is all hustle. Having a way to focus on what matters is important. At the end of the show, Lee gives you a challenge that may just change the way you do social media. Episode 181 - Dr. Rena LaFrance On Medical, Societal, Mental, and Physical Health
Dr Rena LaFrance MD FRCPC is a Medical director at the pediatric centre for weight and health, consulting physician for the Stollery Children’s hospital, and has a private therapeutic practice for women’s relationships with love and sexuality. We talked about the her undergrad and beyond, discussed some of the challenges leading up to her medical practice and dove into her fitness journey paying tribute to the one and only Dean Somerset. She spoke about the challenges of residency in which you end up not taking as good of care of yourself as you might like and how that contrasted with the pandemic we’ve been experiencing in which self care has been imperative for survival and yet constantly changing - looking different for each individual. We talked about the importance of setting boundaries both in what you are willing to put up with and in how you treat yourself. Sometimes we have to be okay with being honestly just okay - or maybe struggling and not feeling great but alive. We need to make it normal to tell people that we are struggling and feel safe in doing so. We can’t have a stigma surrounding medication for mental health or therapy or any care that our body may need to keep us alive. The amount of emotional intelligence the last year and a half has called upon those of us who were up to the task is like nothing we’ve ever experienced. We discussed how dangerous misinformation can be and the impacts the past few years will have on people. Every action we take in our lives builds up to something more significant than we may give credit towards. Dr. Rena is on Instagram @renalafrance if you’d like to know more about her. Episode 178 - Erin Murray on Nourishing your Body, Uncommon Eats, and Regenerative Agriculture
Here is a bit of an intro to get to know Erin Murray (@erinsuncommoneats) better. “Knowing that food was an act of love, I always appreciated the time, sensations, and ritual of good food. But as I grew, the realization of how deeply food affects the body became clear. It was obvious that some foods made me feel better than others--more energized and more nourished. Some foods made me feel unwell--with an upset stomach or fatigue or discomfort. The topic captured my attention, and I read my first "diet book" when I was still in middle school. I had no idea what I was doing, but I was intellectually curious. And so began the spiral of learning about food, experimenting, reading about different strategies and topics, testing programs, and experiencing a lot of the diet-drama-mayhem that permeates our culture. Over time, my knowledge blossomed. And thankfully, my love for food saved me from the pitfalls of dieting. After a lot of experimentation and learning, it became clear to me that diets don't work. And that fresh, whole, real food is deeply nourishing and equally delicious. That act of food love that I knew so well could now be magnified. How caring is it to prepare foods that are not only satisfying, but also deeply nourishing? It's an act of love for those we are feeding, and it's an act of love for ourselves.” Today’s conversation covered everything from the importance of having worked in many different jobs and environments, to the value of working for yourself. We talked about Erin’s career so far, what she offers to the industry and to anyone she works with, and we defined what it meant to be uncommon.
