Scripture: I Kings 18 Topic: Prayer Notes: - Elijah on Mount Carmel faced 450 prophets of Baal... built an altar to God and they an altar to their gods.- If God is God then serve Him; if Baal is god then serve him- Elijah prayed and God answered by fire- God want to answer when we pray; why are our prayers so many and answers so few?- If we are truly where we need to be with God, doing what we are to be doing, shouldn’t we expect God to move when we pray?- If the altar needs repair then nothing else works; if it isn’t cared for it will deteriorate- Maintain the altar of the Lord on a daily basis or there will be no answer- We must remember who we are in Him, gather the people, repair the altar, make time to pray... it must be the #1 priority in my life.

One solution: Jesus- How we should view unsaved: under domination of Satan, sick, crippled, blind, dead, wicked, angry... they can only act out their condition- For the church to hate sinners is to miss the heart of Jesus- We know we are the body of Christ when we cry about the condition of sinners and long to help them come to the saving knowledge of Jesus- When saved you have been drawn by the spirit and a process begins- Now you have another enemy who is focused on your demise- None have sought after God... He chose you... “follow me”- We’re trying to get people to follow the church... instead we must create an interest in Jesus by the way we live- Go where they are... they aren’t coming where you are- Know what you believe of Him, not what someone else says they believe- We’re trying to get people to come to Jesus, not straighten them out- We’re trying to figure who is in and who is out... it’s not our business- People don’t get fixed perfectly right away- He has not dealt with us according to our sins

Elisha prayed “God, open their eyes...they are looking at what is seen”- Those who are for you far outnumber those who are against you

Scripture: Matthew 11:28-30; Exodus 14:5, 8-15 Topic: Forgiveness Notes: - Story of mother on death bed asking for forgiveness- Our sense of unworthiness, inability to forgive ourselves, desperately wondering if we’ll ever get our lives fixed... carrying a burden not intended by God- Come to Jesus and find rest- Jesus is meek. The fight must come out of you; stop trying to prove something... or to be right all the time. Be reliant on the Father- His yoke is easy (yoke not of oxen, but a stick for carrying buckets over the shoulders); if my yoke isn’t easy, whose yoke did I put on?- When I carry someone else’s yoke, there’s no rest in my soul, no peace in my life- God put the Israelites at the Red Sea; Pharaoh meant to recapture them- They went out with boldness, then fear overtook them (as they looked back)- God to Moses “Stop crying out and move forward.” You have to start moving forward before God will open up what hinders your progress- One of the heaviest burdens to carry is unforgiveness- Satan knows he cannot recapture you so he tries to control you- You may be a child of God under Satan’s control if you are unwilling to forgive- Forgiveness is the most powerful God-like action we can do- Great marriages, friendships, families are made up of great forgivers- Forgiveness always defeats Satan, brings victory, lightens burdens and brings rest

Scripture: Acts 9:15 Topic: Evangelism Notes: - How do you know you are filled with the Holy Spirit?- Paul was an angry religious zealot; during period of blindness his religious spirit was broken and he was made a fit vessel of Jesus Christ.- We don’t love sinners the way servants of God must; we’re upset with those who threaten our own lifestyle rather than the effects sin is having on people.- We have too much religion; we have our own plans- You’re not filled with the spirit just because you speak in tongues- You know you’re filled with the spirit when you see a dying world and your heart breaks and all you want to do is make sure you show them who Jesus is.- Instead of being angry at gays and homosexuals, realize the same devil has control of them that had hold of you. People are victims of sin.- Many people have not been fortunate enough to have grown up as I did...- Without prayer my heart does not bleed for sinners; ask God for that burden.- Religion doesn’t make you love God or people.- The only reason we exist is to be Jesus Christ on this planet. Am I a soul winner?

Scripture: Acts 9:1-6; 11-12 Topic: Prayer Notes: - Who are you Lord and what do you want me to do?- It begins with a revelation of Jesus Christ. You can know scripture and doctrine and be able to teach it yet not have a personal relationship with Jesus- You are not a Christian until Jesus is your life; when doctrine and theology don’t make sense you still know Jesus- Saul was so committed to his faith that he hated those not of his faith. When blinded for three days he prayed. God told Ananias “even now he is praying.”- Christians are praying people. Pray and wait for further instruction.- Studying is not the same as praying.- When I pray infrequently, people crowd my thoughts.- As long as I think a person is my problem/ solution I will not get instruction from the Lord; God will use people but not the people you choose.- We must pray past people; bless your enemies.- Prayer doesn’t change things; prayer changes me so things don’t ill affect me- The church cannot take sides; we are to love all people (Israel, Palestinians, Hispanics...)- 10:30-we must love sinners, homosexuals, people we think a threat to our society

You can know scripture and doctrine and be able to teach it yet not have a personal relationship with Jesus- You are not a Christian until Jesus is your life; when doctrine and theology don’t make sense you still know Jesus- Saul was so committed to his faith that he hated those not of his faith. When blinded for three days he prayed. God told Ananias “even now he is praying.”- Christians are praying people. Pray and wait for further instruction.- Studying is not the same as praying.- When I pray infrequently, people crowd my thoughts.- As long as I think a person is my problem/ solution I will not get instruction from the Lord; God will use people but not the people you choose.- We must pray past people; bless your enemies.- Prayer doesn’t change things; prayer changes me so things don’t ill affect me- The church cannot take sides; we are to love all people (Israel, Palestinians, Hispanics...)- 10:30-we must love sinners, homosexuals, people we think a threat to our society
