The James Webb Space Telescope has blown our minds again, uncovering how tiny galaxies played a huge role in building the universe. These small galaxies, way back in the early days of the cosmos, were like cosmic overachievers, cranking out stars like there was no tomorrow. JWST's powerful infrared vision revealed these faint, ancient galaxies that we couldn't see before. Turns out, their energy and light helped shape the universe, contributing to something called reionization, which made the universe clear and starry like we know it now. We know Earth’s exact spot in the universe thanks to a mix of astronomy and technology. First, we figured out we’re the third planet orbiting the Sun, which is part of the Milky Way galaxy—a giant spiral of stars. Then, astronomers mapped out the Milky Way itself, realizing it’s in a smaller arm of the galaxy called the Orion Arm. Beyond that, we know the Milky Way is part of a group of galaxies called the Local Group, which is in an even bigger structure called the Virgo Supercluster. Using telescopes and satellites, scientists also track Earth’s position relative to other stars, galaxies, and cosmic landmarks like quasars. If you ever find yourself face-to-face with an alligator, there’s a surprising two-finger trick that could save your life. Alligators have super strong jaws for biting down, but the muscles to open their mouths are much weaker. If an alligator grabs you, try to stay calm (as hard as that sounds!) and aim for their eyes or the sensitive tip of their snout. Using two fingers, poke their eyes as hard as you can—this often makes them let go and retreat. Another option is to jab your fingers into their nostrils or ears; these spots are super sensitive and can make them release you. Remember, though, the best strategy is to avoid alligators in the first place by staying far from their habitats! A trip to Jupiter isn’t your average road trip—it’s a journey across millions of miles of space! If you hopped on a spacecraft like NASA’s Juno, which launched in 2011, it would take about 5 years to reach the gas giant. But the timing depends on the spacecraft's speed and the route it takes, often using slingshots around other planets to save fuel. There will always be things in this world that you never imagined even existed. After that, you’ll have to get through almost two miles of the solid rock of Earth’s mantle. Then, you’ll be seeing the outer core of liquid iron burning at around 10,000°F! FYI, that’s as hot as the surface of the sun! Not to mention this outer core is the size of Mars! Okay, so you’ve gotten through the outer core, now you’re looking at the solid Moon-sized inner core. Find out how you can save yourself and protect your family in case of an earthquake. These survival hacks are important for all of us, even if you don't live in an area with a lot of seismic activity. No one is 100% safe from this disaster because you never know where you might be traveling or living in the future. So pay close attention to these safety recommendations that could save your life one day. Fortifying your house is a good place to start. Make sure you have enough supplies, including food, medications, fire extinguishers, batteries, and flashlights. Have an expert test your house’s foundation so it won’t slip during an earthquake. Depending on where the earthquake finds you, you should follow different survival rules. The most important thing in all cases is not to panic and to memorize the Drop, Cover, and Hold on technique. Drop right where you are onto your hands and knees. This is a safe position that allows you to slowly move towards shelter. Use one arm to cover your head and neck. A massive desk or table makes a good shelter. If there’s nothing in the room to hide under, at least stay away from the windows. Remain in this position and bend over as much as you can to protect your vital organs. Hold on like this until the shaking stops. How to Stay Safe in the Ocean. Any experienced lifeguard will warn you about a deadly phenomenon that claims the lives of more than 100 American beachgoers every year. In fact, about 80% of all rescues that lifeguards make have a connection to this danger. No, it’s not sharks or poisonous jellyfish or anything like that. The most treacherous thing that can happen to you in the ocean is a totally natural phenomenon called a rip current. The main reason why people lose their lives when stuck in a rip current comes down to panic. When they find themselves suddenly being pulled away from the shore at a high speed, terror ensues, they start to panic, wear themselves out in the fight, and drown because of it. What you should do instead is stay calm, take control of the situation, keep afloat, weigh your options, and don’t exhaust yourself. In real life, “We Will Rock You” appeared in Queen’s hit album News of the World back in 1977 — several years before the actual concert.
