Geoff Kullman is an amazing copywriter who helps his clients connect to their audience. He is one of the few writers I completely trust and have even worked with on my own client projects. In this episode, we talk about some of the mistakes entrepreneurs make in connecting with their audience. Being clear isn't enough. At some point, each of us has to learn to tap into emotion to genuinely connect with people. Some of the things we discuss that keep entrepreneurs from doing so are: 1. Talking about themselves way too much without making connection points to their customers 2. Not identifying their client's hopes, values, dream, and goals 3. Being afraid to ask for a sale, even if they truly believe in their offer 4. Not knowing their purpose 5. Failing to build credibility until a crisis occurs I've matured in this space over time and have realized the importance of consistently honing in my marketing skills. S: Survey them Ask your customers where they are struggling the most, and how you can help with that. Their words can become your greatest copy! T: Teach them Pull your customers into your teaching. Demonstrate your methodology and show them why your solution is the way to solve their problems. E: Empower them Move from teaching them to empowering them for the purchase. When people feel empowered, they move towards transformation. N: Nurture them Nurture your tribe's and potential prospect's success. Ep 223BYP 223: A Behind The Scenes Look At How I Create Social Media Content
In the past, I worked hard, but I wasn't working smart. In my time in the personal branding world, I've learned a lot about working most efficiently, as well as what keeps many online business owners from generating the income they want. Here are 7 of those things: 1. They've got the wrong things on their calendars. 2. They haven't learned the next critical skill. 3. They're not clear on their anchor offer. 4. They're not getting paid for the same product or service more than once. 5. They're creating the wrong content for the wrong people. 6. They don't know their numbers. 7. They don't have a true product suite. To address these issues, I've come up with a social media strategy that combats them and allows me to create a lot less original content. I follow these steps: 1. Tweet several quotes over 2 weeks. 2. Review which quotes got the greatest engagement. 3. Create an Instagram graphic of that quote. 4. Create a Facebook post of that quote. 5. Write a blog post that features that quote. 6. Send my email list that blog post or create a podcast episode out of it. Practice these general principles and join my free webinar, and you'll be well on your way to working smarter and getting the income you desire. Ep 222BYP 222: How To Protect Your Intellectual Property with Steven Thrasher
Most business owners don't know the difference between a copyright, trademark, and patent, and therefore have no protection over their intellectual property. He explains: • What intellectual property in general, and trademarks and copyrights specifically, are. • Why and when we would want to call an intellectual property attorney. • The key differences between planners, procrastinators, and panickers. • The best plan to follow in protecting our intellectual property. Ep 218BYP 218: The 6 Steps to Think and Grow Rich
I've always had an interest in the way that people think—the successful and the not so much. This led me to analyze my own thinking, and I noticed that I didn't think like an entrepreneur. I realized that I needed to grow in my mindset. That's where Napoleon Hill's book Think and Grow Rich came in. His principles messed with my head in the best way. He taught me that success goes to those who becomes success-conscious. Here are the 6 steps he outlines to think and grow rich: #1. Determine the exact amount of money you want. #2. Determine exactly what you intend to give in return. #3. Have a definite date. #4. Have a definite plan. #5. Wrap all this up into a clear, concise statement. #6. Read your written statement aloud twice daily—once before bed, once after you wake up in the morning—and as you read, see, feel, and believe yourself to already be in possession of that money. It is that 6th step that we can't forget. None of the other steps will matter if we aren't repeating the statement to ourselves with emotion attached to it. Ep 216BYP 216: The 5-Step Formula To Write Your About Me Page
I've said it before and I'll say it again: marketing isn't about closing a sale; it's about opening a relationship. And the About You page, as one of your most effective marketing tools, must be written with that purpose in mind. We want to open a relationship with the readers by showing them what our story can do for them. Here are the 5 steps to doing so from the perspective of the reader: #1. Tell me what your business is about. #2. Tell me when to expect certain pieces of content. #3. Tell me to subscribe or opt-in to your channel and/or resources (i.e. your email list). #4. Tell me what content to engage in first (i.e. specific blog posts). #5. Then tell me your personal story and invite me to take a next step. I've had great results with this formula, and know you will too. For the free PDF outlining all of the information talked about in this episode, head to http://www.mikekim.com\aboutpage. Ep 215BYP 215: How To Create Your Annual Marketing Strategy
In our personal brands, many of us launch things quickly without taking the time to plan our annual marketing strategies. However, as we begin the new year and want to start off on the right foot, it is integral to get this solidified. Here are a few things I talk about in this episode to get you started: #1. How to create a gap between campaigns. There are times when we need to turn down both the velocity (the speed at which new content comes out) and the volume (how much content you're putting out) of our personal brands. You are allowed to have some experimental time, and you may even see your income increase when you do. #2. The difference between ripples and waves Pebbles are the little things we do every day, while big rocks create waves. Our marketing strategies can't be based on the hope that something will go viral, so we must throw those big rocks into the pond. #3. Past annual marketing campaigns I also give some examples from my own experiences, both of starting off in the personal branding world, and including my marketing strategy for last year. *** EPISODE CREDITS: If you like this podcast and are thinking of creating your own, consider talking to my producer, Danny Ozment. Note: because of the title of Matthew's book, this episode naturally has some light profanity in it. If that upsets you, don't tune in. We discuss everything from how to write delightful emails, how to random ideas such as: If you find that the grass is often greener, it's time to buy some fertilizer. Advancement and progress are what keeps civilization civilized. But they're also what gave us nuclear weapons and daytime TV. Some have it worse than others. Some of us were born in the arse-end of the country to a family of inbred petty criminals with facial tattoos and Neolithic attitudes to women and literacy.
