Ep 296Brenda K. Starr (on "Discovering"/Friendship w/ Mariah Carey, Tommy Mottola, Wendy Williams & New Music!)

E

Brenda K. Starr steps Behind The Rope. Brenda chats with us about what it was like to find success and hit it big in the late 1980’s with her most well known song “I Still Believe”. We chat about some of her contemporaries at the time, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Cyndi Lauper, Paula Abdul, Tina Turner and Debbie Gibson. Speaking of contemporaries, a little known singer named Mariah Carey used to sing background for Brenda. One day Brenda handed a demo to Columbia Records Executive Tommy Mottola at a party on behalf of Mariah and, as they say in the biz, the rest is history. Brenda opens up about what Tommy was really like both as a person and as a Record Exec who helped launch her career. Brenda also discusses how she really feels about Mariah covering "I Still Believe”, which has now become one of her biggest hits, breaks down where Mariah’s “diva” and “difficult” reputation originates from, and discusses how true she feels those monikers are. She spares no detail in explaining exactly why her and Mariah no longer speak and what she would say if she crossed paths with her today. Why does it not shock us that the name Wendy Williams comes up in this conversation. There was also Mariah’s wedding and being seated at a table with both Gloria Estefan and Barbara Streisand. Of course, we delve deep into Mariah’s “The Meaning of Mariah” book which hit shelves last year - Brenda shares her thoughts, discusses what is accurate and what she would like to rebut, Mariah’s short lived reality docu series “Mariah’s World” - Stella, Bryan, Nick Cannon, and the many misconceptions in the media about Brenda’s relationship past and present with Mariah Carey. In other news, Brenda’s daughter made it to the Top Ten on American Idol and we needed all the back stage secrets and thoughts on Ryan Seacrest and JLO. Finally, Brenda chats about new projects, new music, her newfound success on TikTok, her love for and thoughts on Demi Lovato and her recent tell all documentary and all she has going on in life now. @officialbrendakstarr @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS EPISODES Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by NOOM - http://www.noom.com/VELVET (Sign Up for Your Trial Today) Brought to you by UNIDRAGON - https://www.unidragon.com (10% Off First Purchase - Use Code “VELVETROPES”) Brought to you by BETTER HELP - https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") MERCH Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 295Caroline D'Amore (The Hills, Mischa Barton, BFFS Kim Kardashian & Paris Hilton, & her Pizza Girl Empire!)

E

The Hills’ newest resident, Caroline D’Amore, steps Behind The Rope. Caroline may be the newest cast member of The Hills: New Beginnings, but she is no stranger to this friend group. Having grown up in Los Angeles, Caroline has known many of our fav Hills cast members since childhood. She has also known many other household names, once dubbed Hollywood “It” Girl in the early 2000s due to her BFFs Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, ok, you get the idea. In addition to being a regular on the LA Club Scene with her famous Squad, her love of the nightlife and music eventually led to a successful career as a DJ which has taken her all over the world playing to sold out crowds of epic proportion. Caroline chats about her own past in reality TV prior to joining “The Hills” with appearances on “Keeping Up with The Kardashians”, “Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami” and “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”, having walked in Kyle Richards’ Fall Runway show for her fashion line, Shahida Clayton. Caroline opens up about how she was cast this season as The Hills' "new girl", the filming processes, seeing her “friends” for the first time once the cameras started rolling, her highs and lows from her freshman season and, of course, the drama. That drama included Mischa Barton, who slammed Caroline as a potential replacement after being let go from her not so stellar least season appearance on The Hills. Caroline chats about that epic day, her response, her thoughts on Mischa, the secret scene she filmed at Kathy Hilton's house last season that was cut, Mischa's urging of the cast to ignore her last season and what she would say if she ran into Mischa today. Of course, we also discuss the advice members of the royal family, Kim, Kourtney and Kris, gave her on reality tv, social media and the press now that she is a bona fide reality TV star in her own right. She is also a hardworking member of the family business, D’Amore’s Pizza, which has locations throughout the LA area. In a full circle moment, after avoiding the fam business for a career in nightlife and DJ’ing growing up, Caroline has re-launched her brand new Organic Pizza Sauce called “Pizza Girl”, we discuss the origins of that sauce, the origins of the name "Pizza Girl", how a shift in her company caused her to say yes to The Hills, the 3 amazing flavors (The Vodka sauce is the best!), and of course, whether it is approved by Foodgod himself!! Cue music, “Starring at the blank page before you, Open up the dirty window… Feel the rain on your skin. No one else can feel it for you. Only you can let it in...The rest is still unwritten." @carolinedamore @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS EPISODES Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by NOOM - http://www.noom.com/VELVET (Sign Up for Your Trial Today) Brought to you by UNIDRAGON - https://www.unidragon.com (10% Off First Purchase - Use Code “VELVETROPES”) Brought to you by BETTER HELP - https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") MERCH AVAILABLE at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 294Monique Samuels (on RHOP Last Season, Final Words, Moving On, & T'Challa)!

E

Monique Samuels steps Behind The Rope. Monique is here to chat about ALL of the drama that went down last season on RHOP before putting it behind her, once and for all, and moving on with life. Monique chats about the physical altercation seen ‘round the world, the fall out on and off camera as a result of that altercation, the lawsuit, blogs, social media accounts and, well, you know the rest. We have been over it many times, have we not? What hasn’t been clearly discussed is just how did Monique feel in that moment, the involvement, or lack thereof by Bravo, and how that one event set the entire season in motion for one F of an epic reunion. Monique chats about her past cast mates Robyn, Karen, Gizelle, Ashley, Wendy and Candiace - and the status of all of those “relationships” today. Speaking of that epic reunion, Monique opens up about the exact moment she realized next season would be more of the same, the factors that led to that realization and the ultimate decision to resign from RHOP and walk away from Bravo. Of course, we cannot chat about the Season Five RHOP reunion without discussing Andy Cohen, the fans' opinions of his “supposed” favoritism of Candiace, how Monique felt during the reunion, Chris Samuels’ feelings during that reunion - which he expressed to Andy, and her epic iconic binder!. We discuss the short list Housewives who, like Monique, actually resigned and the addiction of fame and desire of most to stay on TV for as long as possible. We also chat about who Monique has heard from from other franchises showing support, both during the season and after she resigned, what she thinks of other current Bravo events such as Nene Leaks’ “Boycott Bravo”, and would she ever consider a return to reality TV. Remember we mentioned Monique moving on with her life? She has and in a big way. Moniqiue is busy enjoying the success of her “Drag Queens” Single and a brand new You Tube Show “Tea with Monique”. Finally, last but certainly not least, we pay homage to the one, the only, best Pet in the history of Bravo TV, Mr. T’Challa Samuels. @mrsmoniquesamuels @tchallasamuels @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS EPISODES Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by NOOM - http://www.noom.com/VELVET (Sign Up for Your Trial Today) Brought to you by UNIDRAGON - https://www.unidragon.com (10% Off First Purchase - Use Code “VELVETROPES” Brought to you by BETTER HELP - https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") MERCH Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Weekend At Alexis ("Jesus Jugs") Bellino's (#RHOC)

E

A few months ago Heather Mariana, from Bravo's Tour Group - does anyone even remember this show? - and I spent the weekend at our friend Alexis Bellino's house. You know Alexis Bellino, some of you may refer to her as Jesus Jugs, a moniker given to her by her then co-star from The Real Housewives of Orange County's Tamra Judge. Alexis is a friend of ours. The weekend was full of fun, martinis and surprises. Of course, there were also RHOC Housewife cameos as well throughout the weekend Heather and I were recapping this weekend the other day and it hit me. Hold that thought, let me hit record, but of course, just for you Patreons!!! In other news, are we anxiously awaiting the new cast announcement for RHOC or do we no longer care? I have two ideas on how this franchise can be fixed. What are yours? Or do we put it out to pasture? Would this franchise ever be "green lit" today? Enjoy - LOL! xoxoxo Full Episode at: https://www.patreon.com/posts/51420223 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ep 293Nikki Blonsky (on Hairspray, Broadway, Zac Efron, John Travolta & Coming Out)

E

Nikki Blonsky steps Behind The Rope. We cannot help but to feel nostalgic with Nikki in the house. Nikki chats with us about what it was like to land the breakout role of Tracy Turnblad in the film version of the iconic Hairspray. Nikki talks about what life was like as a Long Island girl who went to see Hairspray on Broadway with her Mom and said “hey, I can do that”. Little did she know that years later she would be landing one of the most iconic parts in any Broadway musical. We chat about all the details from the audition process, to the mind of John Waters to how life changed after the film came out and made her a household name. Of course, we chat about some of Nikki’s Hairspray co-stars such as Amanda Bynes, Zac Efron (ok we need a moment to recover), Michelle Pfeiffer, John Travolta (whom she still calls “Mom”) and Queen Latifah. We also chat about some of the original film’s stars such as Debbie Harry, Ricki Lake & Divine. On a more serious note, we discuss the pressures of being type cast in Hollywood, how Nikki found it hard to find work after Hairspray, the pitfalls of fame and the best and worst parts about “the business”. Nikki was also on two of our fav shows, Ugly Betty and Smash which, of course, we love. Finally, Nikki came out via TikTok, of course, where would anyone else come out in these modern times in which we live, during the Pandemic last year to Diana Ross’ “I’m Coming Out”. Nikki chats about the details of that coming out, her love life since, why it is hard for “Tracy Turnblad” on the dating apps and just how Zac Efron seems to work his way into every date she has. @nikkiblonsky @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS EPISODES Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope This episode is brought to you by STORYWORTH https://www.storyworth.com/velvet ($10 off First Purchase) MERCH Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. E

Karen Gravano steps Behind The Rope. Welcome Karen. We get right into it. Karen explains how she got involved with Mob Wives back in the day. She explains how it was a show that no one wanted, at first, until a famous name got involved, Harvey Weinstein. Then there was a bidding war and the show ended up, as we all know, at VH1, and the rest is history. Karen talks about her costars Renee Graziano, Carla Facciolo, and Drita D’Avanzo. E

Dr. John Sessa steps Behind The Rope. Yes, That John Sessa. Executive Director of Vanderpump Dogs. John Sessa, as seen on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Season Nine. You remember that season, no? Thank you Lucy Lucy Apple Juice. Originally from a farm in Northwest Indiana, John never foresaw his current LA life of working with The Vanderpumps. Ok let us start at the beginning. John first met Lisa Vanderpump right after Giggy won “Reality TV’s Most Famous Dog” Award. It was during one of their first meetings that the idea for Vanderpump Pets was born. John explains how Vanderpump Pets, an idea which started with simple, ok its LVP so let's use the word simple loosely, dog collars grew into a real legitimate bona fide business. He also talks to us about how Vanderpump Dogs was eventually born out of Vanderpump Pets after Lisa Vanderpump became aware of the dog abuse taking place in Yulin, China. John discusses some of the current initiatives Vanderpump Dogs are working on, the process of how a dog gets “Vanderpuffed” once rescued and the infamous Vanderpump Dogs Annual Gala. Speaking of Vanderpump Dogs, John fills us in on the much anticipated “Vanderpump Dogs” Series and lets us know when we can expect to see the finished product online. We discuss who in the Vanderpump Rules cast he turned to for on camera reality TV advice and who in the Vanderpump Rules cast he is closest to. Of course, we discuss all things LVP from Villa Rosa, to what Lisa is like off camera, to what are the biggest misconceptions of Lisa and the rest of The Vanderpumps. Obviously, we asked John about "Lucy Lucy Apple Juice" and just where do these dogs' names come from? John talks about how The Vanderpumps are doing, when he last spoke to them, Lisa’s Podcast, the status of all of Lisa and Ken’s restaurants and what we can expect next from the great work that Vanderpump Dogs has been doing. @drjohnsessa @vanderpumpdogs @vanderpumppets @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS EPISODES Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope This episode is brought to you by STORYWORTH https://www.storyworth.com/velvet ($10 off First Purchase) MERCH Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Ep 288Aja (on Drag Race, Queer Culture/Artistry, New Music, Prince & Kandy Muse)

E

Aja steps Behind The Rope. Yes, we all know Aja from their appearance on Drag Race Season Nine and All Stars Season Three. There is much more to Aja than their appearance on our favorite Ru shows. Born and raised in Brooklyn, we knew we liked Aja for a reason, they got into drag at a young age by performing at the local New York City bars. That NYC training led to a coveted spot on both of the aforementioned Drag Race shows. Aja chats about what the experience was like being part of both blockbuster shows - the good, the bad, the other. Of course, we talk about Ru, the judges, and some of our fav guest judges during Aja’s tenure: Lady Gaga, Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth, and Naya Rivera. Aja opens up about life after Drag Race which, yes, includes a career in music. Being completely committed to the craft, Aja announced a few years back that they are no longer a “Drag Queen” but instead are a “Queer Artist”. Speaking of drag queens, Aja dishes on their favs from this current season of Drag Race, discusses whether they think RuPaul and Drag Race have adequately incorporated trans women, trans men, non-binary and all other contestants who deserve representation into the show, including the new catch phrase used this season, and opens up about their beef, fall out, and current status of their relationship with current season contestant Kandy Muse. Remember we mentioned Aja music? Well, Aja has new music in the form of a stellar CD, “Crown” featuring the first single “21 Roads”. Aja chats about their musical inspirations (one includes Prince and we are so here for it!), some of the overall themes heard on the album such as fame, race, gender, class, their fav track, what artist they would love to work with, and just how important is it to incorporate non-binary visibly and cultural representation in their music. @ajathekween @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by Better HELP https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Ep 286Kathy Wakile (#RHONJ - Catching Up!)

E

The Real Housewives of New Jersey's Kathy Wakile steps Behind The Rope. Several months ago, before her daughter Victoria got married, Kathy sat down to chat about all that she has been up to since we last saw her on our TV screens. Born and raised in New Jersey, the fourth of five children, Kathy loved her first career as a Licensed Hairdresser helping make people beautiful one head at a time. One day, on her way to Florida, she met a man on a plane, who became her current husband, Rich Wakile. Family life is going well - so well, in fact, that she brought daughter Victoria with her. Oh hey there, Victoria. Did you know Victoria worked at Aydin Plastic Surgery for Bill Aydin. What a small RHONJ world it is. Speaking of RHONJ, Kathy thought she was in the mix to be cast on a new cooking / baking show during her casting process for RHONJ. Turns out, it was for Season Three of RHONJ and the rest is history. Kathy discusses what filming with her family, Melissa Gorga and Teresa Giudice was like plus the status of their relationships today. Plus, she shares her thoughts on and friendships with Caroline Manzo, Jacqueline Laurita, Jennifer Aydin, Dolores Catania, and last but not least, Margaret Josephs. Kathy and David discuss the “reality” of reality TV, the positives and negatives of being on a “Housewives” show, and how to transition back into the world when the party ends. Ep 285The Big Shot With Bethenny's Nicole Rosé Stillings (on Bethenny Frankel & BTS of "Big Shot")

E

The Big Shot with Bethenny’s Nicole Rose Stillings steps Behind The Rope. Unarguably, THE breakout star of “Big Shot”, Nicole is here to dish it all now that the season has come to an end! A self proclaimed, as seen on TV with Ms. Frankel, DJ, Influencer, and Podcaster, Nicole can now add, “Reality TV Star” to her moniker. Nicole chats about how her dreams of DJ’ing have come true in a big way having worked with not only the the likes of Diana Ross and Noah Cyrus, but there was also that one time she DJ’d and appeared on Summer House during one of their epic finale parties. Yup, we discuss what filming an episode of Summer House was like and just what did Nicole observe from her DJ booth about some of our fav Bravolebs - Kyle, Carl, Lindsay and the rest of the gang. Nicole chats about leaving her career as a triple threat behind to pursue a position as VP, of Operations, billed as “second in command” to the one and only Bethenny Frankel. Nicole has already turned our heads, and that of the B herself, by wearing a crop top on day one, crying after being berated by Bethenny, and, well many other incidents which we discuss in full. In true Nicole fashion she - does - not - hold back when discussing what Bethenny was really like off camera behind the scenes, how “involved" producers of The Big Shot were in storyline, and her edit as the resident “loud mouth”. She also discusses some of her, now standout moments with the world as we watched back each week. She discusses whether Bethenny is bothered by her because she sees herself in her. Let us not forget Bethenny was once called the resident “loud mouth” by our good friend Martha Stewart. Finally, she chats about the epic involvement of Biggy and Smallz and just what she will take away from this experience with Ms. Frankel in the freshman season of her "Big Shot". @nicolestillings @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by Better HELP https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Ep 284TABATHA COFFEY (on Tabatha's Takeover, Shear Genius, Housewives, Being a Bravo Legend, & B*tch Reputation!!!)

E

In a very rare Podcast appearance, Tabatha Coffey steps Behind The Rope!!!! Checking in from her home directly across the river in good ole’ New Jersey, Tabatha is here to - discuss - it - all!! Tabatha starts at the beginning - finishing third and winning “Fan Fav” on the freshman season of Shear Genius. In part due to her signature tell it like it is / hold nothing back approach to hair and life, Tabatha then got her own show, Tabatha’s Salon Takeover, which became Tabatha’s Takeover in Season Four. We discuss what it was like to be a Bravolebrity at that time with colleagues such as Rachel Zoe, Jeff Lewis, Patti Stanger, Jackie Warner, Vicki Gunvalson and a singer you may have heard of by the name of Paula Abdul (“Hey Paula” fans rejoice!). Tabatha weighs in on how Bravo has changed over the years to become the network it is today - which also included her show a few years back, Relative Success with Tabatha, what Bravolebrities of past and present she calls friends, what Bravolebs and Hollywood A Listers have the best and worst hair and what she thinks of Celebs who ride or die by one signature hairstyle. Rinna, we are talking to you. Being from NJ, we discuss Tab’s neighbors Tre, Mel, Marge and the rest of the RHONJ, whether Tabatha would ever consider joining the franchise and whether, with all of Bravo’s efforts on diversity and inclusion, it is finally time for our first openly Lesbian or Trans Housewife (no, we are not counting RHOC’s Braunwyn). Of course, that means she would have to wear leopard which leads to a discussion on Tabatha’s signature all black ensemble. Kim D. Shares Receipts (on RHONJ's Current Season's Biggest Dramas!)

E

RHONJ’s Kim D. She’s baaackk. Kim has a LOT of opinions on this current season of RHONJ and has asked to come back to share them. Who are we to say no? First things first, let’s chat about the elephant in the room, Teresa and Jackie. Kim has a lot of opinions on the matter and in true Rope fashion, her opinions are based on what she has “heard” / allegedly knows from being a local NJ gal. We discuss where we think that rumor really started, whether we believe it is true, what were Teresa’s true intentions in mentioning this rumor on TV, and what is the status of their relationship today. Next, we chat about some of this RHONJ season’s other dramas. What other dramas, you ask? We chat about newbie “Friend Of” Michelle Pais claiming that Joey Gorga owes her husband money. We dissect this claim, the nuances behind it, and of course, do we think there is any validity to it. Speaking of Michelle Pais, she is no longer representing Teresa Giudice in the sale of her home. We answer the question “who is” Michelle Pais and what caused the fall out of her friendship with Tre and subsequent rapid disappearance from our TV screens. Speaking of Joey Gorga, we discuss Melissa and Joe’s “rumored” marital problems, and, well, yea, Kim has something to say about that. Marital and dating problems? Ok, yes, that leads us to Luis Ruelas, Teresa’s new man. Kim knows someone who knows someone… Well, why don’t you just listen to her chat about Luis and Tre. Then there is Jennifer Aydin. Oh, Jennifer. While we admit, the girl is hella funny, never before has a reference to a swan been so funny, David holds back on his own personal real life feelings on Jennifer, that is for another place and time, but Kim chats about how Jennifer was at her past Posche shows despite the fact that Jennifer announced on Watch What Happens Live she has never met Kim D and not know what Posche is. Yes, Kim has receipts. Yea, we will post it. Kim chats about what she has heard regarding this epic RHONJ season and reminisces on the past. Speaking of the past, has anyone been watching Danielle Staub’s weekly IG Live viewing of RHONJ. Should Kim do the same? Grab those cocktails and get ready to gasp. This one is a tell all and who better than the woman who knows everyone who is anyone in the Garden State, Miss Kim D is here to do what she does best, hold nothing back! Ep 283Married To Medicine's Kari Wells (on Current Season, Looking Back & What's Next)

E

Married to Medicine’s Kari Wells steps Behind The Rope. The “Queen of Class”, a titled bestowed upon her by the one and only Daddy Andy Cohen, Kari is here to help us break it all down regarding the current season of Married to Medicine. After a brief chat about how she originally got involved with the show way back in Season One, her up and down relationships with her co-stars over the years, and all the changes in M2M during the past eight years, we waist no time in delving deep into the current season. Kari chats about her current relationships and what we can expect to see the rest of this season from some of our favorite Doctors and Doctors’ Wives - Dr. Jackie, Dr. Simone, Toya, Quad, Dr. Heavenly, and Dr. Contessa. Of course, we nudge Kari to spill some tea about the remainder of the current M2M season, what we can expect, and what drama is a comin’ our way. We also chat about newbie Anila Sajja and what we can expect from this firecracker as the season progresses. On a more serious note, we chat about the absence of series creator and one of the former Executive Producers, Mariah Huq and did that effect the mood in this friend group this season. Kari chats about some of her fellow ATL women, those Peach Holders over at The Real Housewives of Atlanta - who she knows, who she would like to know, and just who stood her up for dinner a few months back. Finally, we chat about all that Kari has done in life - model, actress, author, business owner and, of course, last but certainly not least, Doctor's Wife. Tune in as we break it all down, Married to Medicine style. @kariwells_ @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by Better HELP https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Ep 282RANDY SPELLING (on Tori, Family, 90210, Legacy, TV, & Life Coaching)

E

The One, The Only, Randy Spelling steps Behind The Rope. Yes THAT Randy Spelling. Before we get to his current “Randy Spelling Coaching” Business, let us start at the beginning. Spelling Manor. Randy is kind enough to entertain all of our questions about what it was like to grow up at Spelling Manor. Spelling Manor, the house with its own Wikipedia page. We discuss Mom Candy Spelling’s glamorous parties, the infamous gift wrapping room, the whose who of Hollywood who flowed through there, and how Randy felt when the Manor was sold in 2011. We discuss what it was like to grow up with Aaron Spelling as a Dad and what the legacy of such shows like “ Melrose Place”, “Charmed”, “Charlie’s Angels”, “Dynasty”, “The Love Boat” and “Heart to Heart” means to him. We also discuss what is was like to be a high school student at the same time that 90210 exploded. Well there was that one time Randy went to school to everyone chanting “Donna Martin Graduates”, the night after a certain episode aired. Speaking of 90210, we discuss it all and by all, we mean, Shannen, Jason, Brian, Ian, Gabrielle, Jenni and Tori. Speaking of Tori, we discuss her own career both on 90210 as well as the plethora of reality TV she has done, such as Tori & Dean and True Tori and what it is like for Randy to watch some of these shows. Randy also opens up about what it was like to be caught in the middle of certain family dramas and it what it was like to have those played out in the media. On a larger note, we discuss topics such as the importance and value society improperly places on having versus not having money, the addiction of fame, why the media is so obsessed with “The Spellings” and some of the biggest misconceptions about himself, Tori and the rest of the family. Fear not, all of this has helped Randy get to where he is today, a devoted Husband and Dad living in Oregon with a successful life coaching business. No really, you can book him as a life coach, and if this sit down is any indication, sign us up!!! @randyspelling @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by Better HELP https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Ep 281Blow Out's Jonathan Antin - (on Andy Cohen, WWHL, Bravo Early Days, Tabatha Coffey, & Madonna)!

E

Did everyone watch Watch What Happens Live last week with all our friends from the past including Mr. Jonathan Antin. Well, Jonathan Antin steps back Behind The Rope. We pick up right where we left off during our last sit down. Jonathan explains how he got hired as one of the lead judges on Bravo’s Shear Genius after Blow Out had ended. We discuss host Camila Alves and prior host Jaclyn Smith. We also discuss one of Shear Genius' contestants, Tabatha Coffey. Jonathan gives us his opinion of Tabatha, discusses whether he thinks she should have won her season, lets us know if her tough as nails persona is an act or real, and finally answers the question of whether she deserved her own show. Speaking of Bravolebrites, we discuss Jackie Warner’s appearance on Blow Out, what went wrong and the status of their relationship today. We also discuss all the other celebrities who appeared on Blow Out such as loyal clients Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin (they had other reality shows in the mix with Jonathan also - we discuss), Kristen Bell, Kate Bosworth, and, last but not least, sister Robin Antin, founder of The Pussycat Dolls. Jonathan tells some fun stories about his other Celeb clients, Courtney Love, Ricky Martin, Brad Pitt, Steven Tyler, Leo DiCaprio, Gwyneth Paltrow and, way to bury the lead, Queen Madonna (Lourdes in Tow)! We discuss the pressures from Bravo for Jonathan to involve his family in the show and how Blow Out came to an end shortly after his lack of a desire to do so. Finally, Jonathan opens up about the early days of Bravo, the origins of WWHL, his relationship with Andy Cohen and what he thinks of how the network has evolved throughout the years. Ep 280Eric Nies (The Real World New York & Homecoming)

E

This is the true story of seven strangers picked to live in a house, work together, and have their lives taped. Find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real…. The Real World. We sat down with Eric Nies a few months prior to MTV’s decision to bring the entire cast of the original real world back together to live in the same loft almost thirty years later. Mr. Eric Nies was part of the granddaddy of all of reality TV, the original Real World, New York, Season One. THE show that changed, introduced, formed and revolutionized Reality TV. Welcome Eric. We start at the beginning by asking the question, just how did Eric get cast on the first ever Real World in NYC and what was casting like back when. With no prior reality show to look to, we discuss how he knew what to do when the cameras started rolling - he didn’t. With no predecessor to look to, we discuss how this makes the Real World, New York, Season One possibly the most authentic reality TV show ever. Eric discusses his hesitations to do certain things not knowing how the final product would turn out and the influence of producers and editing back then. He discusses how he was able to get used to cameras around 24/7 and what he thought of the finished product once aired. Eric discusses what MTV was like back in the day when it was the Chanel that played music all day and how he thought the Real World would maybe be a little show that a few people watched. On that note, we talk about how life suddenly changed once the show aired and became a multigernational blockbuster of supreme magnitude. We discuss his house mates Julie, Norman, Heather, Kevin, Becky and Andre and who he keeps in touch with today. He explains how once the Real World ended he was offered the gig as host of Club MTV, which led to MTV’s The Grind (also featuring a pre RHOBH Camille Grammer), which led to The Grind Workout Videos, which led to a long career as both a Competitor and Host of the classic MTV juggernaut The Challenge. He had movie offers, modeling offers and who could forget that Bruce Weber photoshoot book he was in with his brother (Google It). Being the hot commodity in town, no one said no. Money, fame, booze, drugs, women, anything at his fingertips that he wanted, Eric seemingly had it all. Until he didn't. With an addictive personality, Eric finally hit rock bottom and had his “aha" moment when he realized he needed to transform his life. He started working with Grandmasters and Shaman’s and currently runs a successful practice as a life, health, wellness, nutrition guide, spiritual guide and addiction rehabilitation facilitator for those in need. That is a long cry from the streets of New York and the height of fame. Eric and David discuss the aftermath of being in the spotlight, how fame is possibly the most addictive drug of all, the highs and lows of the entertainment business and how to navigate it successfully and come out the other side. A truly spectacular sit down you do not want to miss with The Real World New York’s Eric Nies. @nies.eric @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available On Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by Better HELP https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Ep 279MARGARET JOSEPHS (A sit down chat!)

E

Margaret Josephs steps Behind The Rope. Margaret is here to chat about her new book, “Caviar Dreams, Tuna Fish Budget: How to Survive in Business and Life”. Not so fast Marge, we love you and all, but first we gotta chat about all that was RHONJ Season 11 as we head into the reunion later this week. We chat with Margaret about the Evan “rumor” heard ‘round the world, Teresa and Jackie, the origins of that rumor, and will we get answers at the reunion as to who started this rumor? In other RHONJ news, Margaret weights in on Joe and Melissa - their marriage, how worried is she, or should we be, about their future, and the truth about those “divorce rumors” which seem to be circulating in the press, in part, by Melissa herself. We ask Margaret, "just what is it about Jennifer that annoys you so much (where to begin???), her current Twitter feud with her, and just where does one need to draw the line. Margaret opens up about the men in Teresa’s life, ex-husband Joe Giudice - who is still as much a part of the show as he was in Season One - as well as Luis Ruelas - has she met him, what does she think, has Tre changed as a result of meeting him, is Tre moving too fast, and is she worried based on the recent “press” of his alleged “past”. Of course, we have to address the elephant, or lack thereof, in the room, Danielle Staub and how different is this season without her. We pay homage to the past - The Manzos, Kathy Wakile, Jacqueline Laurita and so on and look ahead to the reunion - what issues is she coming in hot about and does the reunion solve or cause more issues for the RHONJ ladies. Speaking of “Caviar Dreams”, Margaret chats about how the book came about, the writing process and the decision to include topics such as her wild childhood with Marge Sr. as a mom and “sleeping” with her boss. Margaret’s stellar book also includes business advice of how she became “self made” and recovered from financial and legal setbacks to come out the other side, life highlights such as sleeping with a Rock Star and meeting Joan Rivers and just what is next for this Powerhouse In Pigtails. Ep 278Corrine Olympios (on Bachelor Nation, Real Housewives, Colton Underwood & Podcast Life)

E

Corrine Olympios steps Behind The Rope. One of the most talked about contestants in Bachelor Nation history. Corrine stops by to chat about all that has been going on in Bachelor Nation since the end of this past controversial “Matt James” season of The Bachelor. Of course, we chat about and question Chris Harrison’s discussion with Rachel Lindsay, and will and should Chris ever return, who should be a permanent replacement for Chris if he does not return and last, but certainly not least, Chris Harrison’s decision to hire the same high powered attorney Gabrielle Union employed when she was “let go” from “America’s Got Talent”. Hmm, the plot thickens. We also chat with Corrine about new Bachelorettes Katie Thurston and Michelle Young, new Bachelorette Hosts Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe and would she herself would ever want to host. Of course, we chat about her own controversial Nick Viall season, the importance of a nap, the status of her nanny and how Bachelor In Paradise is forever changed after her star turn on the island. In true Corrine fashion, she does not hold back. Perhaps that is why she has her very own new Podcast, “Corrine Saves Us All” where she helps us solve all of life’s mysteries or at least loves mysteries. Corrine gives Host David tough love - did he listen? - and chats about her amazing Aura Sugar beaded products worm on all of our favorites such as Scheana Shay and Christine Quinn. Finally, Corrine opens up about her current life and relationship. Ep 277Bugsy Drake (on Below Deck, RHOBH, Meeting Justin Bieber & Tablescaping)

E

Below Deck’s Bugsy Drake steps Behind The Rope. In true Bugsy fashion, she is an open book holding nothing back and is here for a fun time. Bugsy reminisces about the seasons she spent behind the Bravo cameras as a cast member on Below Deck Mediterranean. She shares stories from filming and real life charters that make us say whaaat? Bugsy breaks down the differences between filming a reality show like Below Deck and real world charters. Of course, we discussed her feelings on Malia White, Captain Sandy and Alex Radcliffe. Speaking of Alex, Bugsy has a new boyfriend and, ok reluctantly, but we have our ways, shares a few details on him!! Bugsy also chats about her brand new book, “The Art of Tablescaping”. The Queen of Theme talks about some of her fav themes, what goes into a “good table”, and why most people find good tablescaping just so damn hard (us included!). Off course, we chat about other Bravolebrities and Housewives she has met, wants to meet, and / or have “slipped into her DMs”. Bugsy chats about the new season of her fav Bravo show - RHOBH and that one time she ran into Justin Bieber in St. Barts. Ep 276Shaman Durek (on BFF Gwyneth Paltrow, Dating a Princess, Bling Empire & Living an Authentic Life!)

E

Shaman Durek steps Behind The Rope. Bling Empire’s Scene stealing Shaman Durek. Of course, we discuss Shaman Durek’s involvement in Bling Empire after being “hired” by Kevin Kreider to help Kelly Mi Li work out her "relationship issues" with Andrew Gray or, in other words, one of the central storylines of this brilliant freshman Netflix Series (if you did not watch, what are you waiting for). Shaman Durek chats with us about how one becomes a Shaman, what exactly does a Shaman do (oh c’mon, like you know), how can a Shaman help each and every one of us in our daily lives, and what are the biggest misconceptions of a Shaman. We delve deep into topics like social media and fame obsession, how people are often their own worst enemies, the affect Reality TV has on us as a society, the use of outside stimulants such as sex, drugs, alcohol to help numb the pain of daily life and what is needed in order to gain complete peace of mind in the fast paced world we live in today. Deemed “Shaman to the Stars”, we discuss other famous clients, besides our favorite “Crazy Rich Asians” over on Bling Empire, such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Nina Dobrev, and Chord Overstreet. In fact, Gwyneth is one of Shaman Durek’s best friends, we chat about what that is like and how, although people are often used to and/or treated differently because they are a celebrity, at the end of the day, we are all just humans trying to live an authentic life. It is clear Shaman Durek is living an authentic life, even if that life involves dating a member of The Royal Family, The Princess of Norway. Finally, we ask Shaman Durek if he has picked up on any vibes from Behind The Rope during our time together and if he can advise us on how to live a happier, kinder, more peaceful life. @shamandurek @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by Better HELP https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 275TAWNY KITAEN... Looking Back (from What Is Likely Her Final Interview Ever)

E

Approximately two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of sitting down with the one and only Tawny Kitaen in what I can only assume is one of her last interviews ever. Tawny was full of life, happy, generous, pleasant. We talked for almost two hours. She followed up after in a series of texts, as kind and sweet as can be. She lit up when she talked about her daughters which were clearly her greatest accomplishment in life. Tawny went to her first rock concert at age 14, saw how the singer’s girlfriend got full VIP access and treatment and decided, “hey, I want that.” Tawny went out and made that happen. A rocker gal by nature, Tawny dated the guitarist from Ratt while in high school. From there she graduated, and “graduated”, by marrying Whitesnake’s lead singer. Although they divorced years later, she is most notorious for being “that girl” in the Whitesnake video. With that career defining moment she went from “groupie” to wife and celebrity. Choreographer Paula Abdul took one look at Tawny’s moves on the set of the Whitesnake video shoot and said, “you don’t need my help” and left! Tawny graced our small screens with roles on many of our beloved shows including Seinfeld (who she also dated), Married...With Children and America’s Funniest People. Before it was the “cool” thing to do, Tawny transitioned from “actress” to reality star starring in VH1s “The Surreal Life” and “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew”. Speaking of Reality TV, who could forget Tawny’s 2017 appearance on E’s mega-hit Botched with Doctors Terry Dubrow and Paul Nassif. Of course, there was also that star studded role with Tom Hanks in Bachelor Party. What follows is an unedited, almost two hour, chat with Tawny as she shares stories from a life well lived opening up about career and personal highs, some of which have never before been revealed. She discusses the book which she was working on because, as stated, “if I don't write my life story, somebody else is going to, and they're going to do it off of sound clips, that aren't true and aren't real about me. So it's really, really important that I get my book out.” Hopefully this interview can help accomplish that just a little. @tawnykitaenofficial @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by Better HELP https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Ep 274CLAUDIA JORDAN (On The Real Housewives of Atlanta)

E

Claudia Jordan steps back Behind The Rope. Claudia is here today to chat about all things, what else, The Real Housewives of Atlanta. She explains how she ran into a RHOA producer at a West Hollywood gay bar and from there, the wheels were in motion. Claudia chats about her prior friendship with Kenya Moore, her arrival in Atlanta and just how she went from “Friend Of” to “Official Peach Holder” on this highly rated Housewives franchise. One word: Nene. Remember that infamous cast trip? Claudia chats about how welcome, hint - not much - she felt by Nene, Nene’s refusing to film certain scenes and how Nene treated everyone on set. She also chats about the remainder of her co-stars Phaedra Parks, Kandi Burruss, and Cynthia Bailey - what working with each was like and the status of her friendship with each today. Speaking of Miss Linnethia Leakes, Claudia chats about Nene’s departure from RHOA this past season. On a larger scale, we discuss the concept of “everyone is replaceable” and how some times some people can be their own worst enemy. Claudia also discusses whether Nene’s current actions regarding Bravo and Andy Cohen have gone too far to “the place of no return” or can she still make a return to the network, or any other network for that matter, in the near future. Claudia is currently living in Dallas, Texas with her boyfriend and yes she knows some of our favorite Real Housewives of Dallas such LeeAnne Locken (they just had an epic day of drinks together), D’Andra Simmons (she thinks Claudia should be an RHOD) and Kary Brittingham (they have had recent real life beef). Finally, Claudia reflects on her time on the show and answers the age old question, would she ever go back. Claudia DOES - NOT - HOLD - BACK!! RHOD's Dog Behaviorist Brad Bevill (on clients Kam Westcott, MamaD, Braunwyn Burke, & Bravo Pets Giggy, Tiago Girardi & T'Challa Samuels!)

E

RHOD’s Brad Bevill steps Behind The Rope. Yes, Fanci Westcott’s Dog Trainer. We have all seen Brad bring the “tough love” to Kameron Westcott’s adorable treadmill loving dog Fanci, but what is working with Kameron really like? Brad is here to answer that plus chat about his other RHOD connections - working with Mama Dee and Cary Deuber’s dogs. Brad chats about the hardest part of each of those jobs, the strangest requests, how he fell into this line of business, the psychology behind working with dogs, what he loves about his job so much and what he thinks about being now known for his RHOD appearances. He has also worked with Bachelor Nation’s JoJo Fletcher and former Bravolebrity, “Courtney Loves Dallas”, Courtney Kerr. There is also his newest Bravoleb client, Miss Braunwyn Windham-Burke. Of course, we needed to know what Brad really thinks about Sparkle Dog and will pink dog food ever become a thing. We also chat about other pressing Bravo Dogs / Pets: Giggy Vanderpump (is it good for a dog to be treated like a human being and / or travel the world never leaving its owner’s side?); Wacha Cohen (when is it time to give an “aggressive dog” away?), Tiago Jayne Girardi (how soon after an owner is “taken away” for an extended period of time does a dog start to suffer separation anxiety? Can a dog sense a change in it’s owner’s lifestyle, can a dog sense a change in household parties due to live altering events such as a divorce), Lucy Lucy Apple Juice Vanderpump then Kemsley then Vanderpump now unknown (is there ever such a thing as a “too silly” dog name?), and last but not least the best Bravo pet in the history of Bravo, T’Challa Samuels (will Brad ever branch out to Birds or other pets?). On a serious note, Brad talks about being an entrepreneur (running Bevill Dog Behavior), new upcoming Bevill Dog Behavior products and services, and would he ever consider starring in a reality show of his own? Adam and David also bond over the reality show pilot they were a part of with Jersey Shore’s Angelina Pivarnick, RHONJs Dina Manzo, and Michael Lohan. Tan Mom takes us back to the beginning of when she brought her five year old daughter to a tanning salon. Immediately thereafter she was arrested for child endangerment. She was taken right from the salon to jail. Jail for seven days. She recounts what being in jail was like, and how scary a time that was. She then became an overnight sensation. Tan Mom tells us about her legal battles as a result of this day, the ridicule her children had to face in school, what is was like to have paparazzi hiding in her bushes 24 hours a day, and how caged she felt not be able to walk down the street as a result of this one act. Flash Forward and one day Tan Mom and Adam found themselves booked on The Howard Stern show to tell their story. Let us repeat slowly. The Howard Sten Show!!! They quickly found themselves fan favs and, even more important, a Howard fav. As a result, they became regular fixtures on The Stern Show, having had so many appearances that they lost count. Tan Mom was even in Howard Stern’s book and attended his 60th birthday party. We just cannot breathe. They spare no details, from what Howard’s Green Room is like, what Robin Quiver’s is like, who attended Howard’s Birthday party, and what does it feel like to get be considered part of Stern’s inner circle. On a more serious note, we talk about Tan Mom’s near death experience last year and what major announcement she has a result. Wow, is all we gotta say. @realtanmom @adambarta @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope This Episode is brought to you by Apostrophe https://www.apostrophe.com/pod/VELVET/ ($15 off First Visit) Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Ep 272RHONJ's Frank Catania Sr., w/ Cameo by Dolores Catania (An Interview)!

E

RHONJ’s Frank Catania Sr. (“Big Frank”) steps Behind The Rope. Hot off his Watch What Happens Live appearance with his Bros, Joe Gorga, Evan G., Bill Aydin and The Real Super Joe, Mr. Dolores Catania, as we like to call him, is here to discuss it all. This Real Housewives of New Jersey “House Husband” discusses growing up in NJ, how, where and when he met Dolores, their courtship, marriage, children (shout out to Gabby and Frankie Jr. - former BTVR Guest), ultimate dissolution of their marriage and road to the current “best friends” friendship they now have, as seen throughout the past several seasons on RHONJ. Frank is brutally honest about why their marriage ended, their divorce and how they became almost immediate friends thereafter. Speaking of RHONJ, Frank discusses how Dolores was cast, his own participation in the show and just what does he think of the drama and other cast mates Teresa Giudice, Margaret Josephs, Melissa Gorga, Jackie Goldschneider and last, but certainly not least, Jennifer Aydin. We also chat with Frank about his Bromances with the Joeys Gorga and Benigno (The Real SuperJoe), Evan Goldschneider and Bill Aydin. On a personal note, Frank chats about his relationship with Dolores’ boyfriend, Doctor David, as well as with his own girlfriend - who knew?. Finally, we pump, no pun intended (yes he and Frankie Jr. are still weightlifting), Frank Sr. for spoilers from the rest of this already stellar RHONJ season. Ep 271Laguna Beach's Christina Schuller (on Laguna Beach, The Hills & Reality TV)

E

Christina Schuller (now Sinclair), from Laguna Beach, steps Behind The Rope. One of the OG's of Laguna Beach. Season One! Originally from Laguna Beach, Christina tells us what it was like when MTV came a knockin’ to film one of the first ever Reality Shows. With The Real World being one of the only predecessors to compare it to, Christina sheds light on what filming was like when “no one knew what they were doing”. That “no one” included producers. We discussed the “Game of Thrones” casting process and competition amongst Laguna Beach’s High School Students to be one of chosen eight. We discuss how the original concept was supposed to be a True Life: Day In the Life of a Southern California High School Student versus the juggernaut viral sensation it became. With that viral sensation, came many perks like attending the VMA Awards, Diddy’s after party and all. That viral sensation also includes all of our favorite shows for years to come: The Hills, The City and now, currently, The Hills: New Beginnings (coming back soon!). Christina opens up about what life was like when she was thrust into the public eye overnight and how that changed life forever. She explains her unexpected ties to The Hills / The City star Whitney Port. We didn’t see that coming. We discuss what life was like after the flash bulbs faded and where she took her career after - acting, fitness, full time mom. Of course we discuss some of her Laguna Beach co-stars Lauren Conrad, Kristin Cavallari, Stephen Colletti, Lo Bosworth, Talan Torriero, Trey Phillips and Morgan Olsen. Speaking of those co-stars, Christina fills us in on all the details from the Season One full cast reunion that took place last year, the first time the cast has all been together in fourteen years. Tune in now to hear all that Christina has to share about this Granddaddy of reality shows. @christinasinclair @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope This Episode is brought to you by Apostrophe https://www.apostrophe.com/pod/VELVET/ ($15 off First Visit) Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Ep 270COUNTESS LUANN DE LESSEPS (An Interview)!

E

Countess Luann de Lesseps steps Behind The Rope. Royalty people. Royalty, or at least the first person The Rope has had with an actual title. In anticipation of the premiere (tonight is the night!!) of what is arguably one of the best of the Franchise, Lu is here to break down what we can expect this coming Season 13 of The Real Housewives of New York City. First, Luann reflects back on an epic twelve RHONY seasons - being cool, not uncool, kissing pirates, making eggs a la francaise, falling in bushes, feelin’ Jovani, and sharing very personal private moments in her life. Seeing as Luann has done all of the aforementioned, and more, while holding her head high, it is clear why she is an OG, fan favorite, and still going strong thirteen seasons later. Luann divulges what we can expect for RHONY Season 13, how it is different than the prior twelve, what to expect from new apple holder Eboni K. Williams, and whether Ramona is, well, as Ramona as ever. Since life IS a cabaret, we chatted with Lu about adjusting to life “off” the road having to put her sold out nationwide tour on temporary hold and received a status update on her “Marry, F**k, Kill” show, including whether Ms. Morgan, and all her letters, will be a part of it. Luann opens up about the many headlines she has made off camera the past few months while filming RHONY - potentially joining Dancing With the Stars, posing for topless photos (“Claycation”!), and returning to her single status (farewell Garth). On that note, we discuss her type, who she is currently chillin with and whether she would ever join that other juggernaut show, “The Bachelorette”. Of course, we need all the details from Luann on the upcoming Crossover “All Stars Housewives House” series seeing as she was the first announced official cast member. Finally, Lu is kind enough to entertain our rapid round of RHONY “must knows” - who would you want back, who would you not want back, what NYC Celebrity would be a good fit, does Louis Vuitton really make mistakes, what were her roses and thorns of the past thirteen seasons, how has she changed as a person as a result of RHONY, how are Victoria and Noelle, and what advice would she give to season one “Baby Countess” as Countess Luann de Lesseps reflects back on twelve successful years and looks forward to one hell of a RHONY ride as we prepare for tonight’s Season 13 premiere!!! @countessluann @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope This Episode is brought to you by Apostrophe https://www.apostrophe.com/pod/VELVET/ ($15 off First Visit) Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Ep 269Princesses: Long Island's Chanel Omari (on Princesses, Early Bravo, BFF's Lindsay & Dina Lohan & Comedy Career)!

E

In anticipation of her first ever Watch What Happens Appearance, tonight is the night, in what is to go down as one of the most historic weeks in WWHL history, Princesses: Long Island's Chanel Omari steps Behind The Rope. Taking a break from her thriving comedy career and hosting her own “Chanel In The City Podcast” (as featured last season on The Real Housewives of New York City), the woman whose friends call her Coco, Chanel Omari is here to tell it all. Having not seen each other since a Countess Luann and Friends Christmas show, Chanel and David quickly catch up. Why not start with a review of the night and the Countess Christmas show way back when. We also need all the deets about Chanel’s two BFFS Lindsay and Dina Lohan. No really, she is close with both. Okay, now onto what everyone wants to talk about, Princesses: Long Island. Chanel takes us back to the beginning of Princesses: Long Island. She explains how the concept for the show came about, how it was “cast” and how it ultimately found its way, after a brief journey, to Bravo as a home. Chanel discusses the concept of the show, a series of Jewish Women out of college for a short period of time who end up living back with their parents in well to do enclaves of Long Island, New York. We discuss the difference between how the show was marketed, portrayed and perceived as a series of rich young entitled Long Islanders versus the reality of the struggles, both financially and emotionally, most of the cast were facing off camera in real life. Chanel also opens up about how hard it is to film a reality show with your real life friends and how it is almost impossible for many of those friendships to survive the strains of Reality TV. No discussion of Princesses: Long Island would be complete without the origins of the show’s name and how Chanel and the rest of the cast felt when they were told this would be the name of the series. We discuss how and why, despite Bravo being the perfect home for this show, it was cancelled after just one short season and why David and Chanel think it will always live on as one of the classic Bravo favorites of all time. We know you are preparing for your WWHL appearance, but thanks for fitting us into your busy schedule Miss Omari. Vanderpump Rules' Max Boyens - Breaks His Silence!

E

Max Boyens Breaks His Silence. Max joins us in this exclusive chat to discuss it all. Vanderpump Rules just announced it's cast for Season Nine and that filming will resume this month. As the BravoVerse knows, Max Boyens was terminated from the hit show early last year along with Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute and Brett Caprioni. Max stops by to break his silence about the circumstances surrounding that termination, a series of tweets from 2012 which resurfaced just after he was cast on the hit Bravo show. First things first, we NEED answers from Max and we GET answers from Max surrounding those tweets - how, what, where and why, for starters. We dive deeper into his actions and how that affected several minority groups chatting with Max about, not only the ramifications of his tweets, but how he now feels about those tweets and what, if anything, has he learned from this whole experience. After this difficult, but brutally honest and completely necessary conversation, we chat about the terminations of Stassi Schroeder and Kristen Doute, Stassi’s “apology tour”, which included, but was not limited to, her now infamous appearance on the Tamron Hall Show, and her newly hired PR firm in an attempt at a, for lack of a better word, “comeback”. We also discuss the recent cast departures of Vanderpump Rules OG Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright answering the questions (1) were they fired and (2) if so, is it because of Jax’s actions regarding Faith Stowers. We discuss the future of VPR without Stassi, Jax, Kristen and Brittany, the many rumored Spin Offs (Think Babies, TomTom and VanderVegas) and the current state of restaurants SUR and TomTom as of today. Finally, we chat about Lisa Vanderpump’s involvement in this entire mess, when Max last heard from her, and where we all go from here. FRANKIE GRANDE (on Big Brother, Music Divas, Red Carpets, Social Media, & "Titanique")

E

Frankie Grande steps Behind The Rope. Reality TV Star, Red Carpet Host, Influencer, Broadway Legend, LGBTQIA Advocate. Yes, he is also the brother to one of the world’s biggest Pop Stars of our generation, Ariana Grande for those living under a rock, but there is much much more to Frankie than his famous last name. Starting at the beginning, Frankie chats about being on Broadway at a young age - the many shows he was in, the pieces he produced and the many talented, many recognizable celebs he worked with. Frankie explains how and why he became a Social Media Influencer, before that was a thing, how he amassed his current following exceeding 2 Million IG followers, over 30 million You Tube Views, and TikTok stats that leave most speechless, the negative effects social media can have and what he foresees as the future of social. Of course, we chat about Frankie’s decision to temporarily leave all of that behind to enter the Big Brother house and play one of the best games in reality TV history, Big Brother. After Big Brother, Frankie Grande became a household name allowing him to continue his career by doing it all - more broadway, red carpet hosting, more reality TV and so on. What hasn’t Frankie Grande done? Now, he is back having just performed in an all-star studded revival of Rock of Ages as well as an upcoming brand new one night only live streaming musical (this Sunday May 2nd), “Titanique: The Maiden Voyage Concert”, a parody of Titanic set to, yup you guessed it, Celine Dion songs. Celine even makes an appearance as herself, kind of. Frankie chats about what it was like to play Victor Garber in Titanique and whether Celine Dion herself will be tuning in this Sunday night. Finally, we check in with Frankie on his fam - Sister, Mom, Nona and boyfriend Hale and, having met everyone and anyone, do a rapid fire round of Frankie’s hot takes on some of our favorite music divas, not the least of which is his number one (tied with Celine) Queen Madonna! Ep 268Bachelor Nation's Ben Higgins (Breaking It All Down!)

E

Ben Higgins steps Behind The Rope. Mr. Former Bachelor Himself, steps by to chat about all that has been going on in Bachelor Nation since the end of this controversial “Matt James” season of The Bachelor. Ben shares his thoughts on how he thought Matt did, Matt’s choice to give his final rose to Rachael Kirkconnell and the end of their relationship due, in large part, to her "racially insensitive” past actions. We also discuss Matt’s decision to delete any and all mention of Bachelor Nation on his Instagram answering questions such as what does this mean for Bachelor Nation, how must Matt be feeling right now as he attempts to rebuild his life and whether he should be given another shot, not that he is asking for it, at the lead role. Matt and Rachael were recently seen together in New York City. What does it all mean? Of course, we chat about and question Chris Harrison’s discussion with Rachel Lindsay, his decision to “step aside”, will and should Chris ever return, who should be a permanent replacement for Chris if he does not return and last, but certainly not least, Chris Harrison’s decision to hire the same high powered attorney Gabrielle Union employed when she was “let go” from “America’s Got Talent”. Hmm, the plot thickens. Looking ahead, we chat about the next two Bachelorettes, Katie Thurston and Michelle Young, as well as their hosts, Bachelor Nation’s Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe. Speaking of Bachelors and plots, we check in with Ben about his current engagement to Jessica Clarke, their decision to live apart until married, their ideal wedding, and when they plan on getting married. Ben also chats about his stellar new book “Alone in Plain Sight” and amazing Bachelor Nation Podcast “I Almost Famous Podcast”. Finally we need Ben’s expert opinion of other recent Bachelor Nation couples Tayshia and Zac and Clare and Dale. @higgins.ben @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by Better HELP https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Ep 266João Franco (on all things Below Deck Med / Below Deck Current & Past!)

E

João Franco, from Below Deck Med, steps Behind The Rope. Checking in from his home in South Africa, birds chirping in the background, João stops by to fill us in on everything he has been up to since we last saw him on our TV sets and chat all things about two of Bravo’s highest rated shows, Below Deck Med and Below Deck. João explains how, although he was authentically himself, many of his cast mates and Below Deck Med Veterans ’tried” to make a TV show and were all too aware of their images and cameras. Veterans? Well that can only mean two people - Captain Sandy and Hannah Ferrier. Do tell? On that note, let us not forget João was at BravoCon with Colin Macy O’Toole, The Captains Sandy and Lee and Kate Chastain. We discuss BravoCon in detail and why there were some bumps in the road there between João and the rest of the gang. Now that João is a Captain of his own, he chats about whether, as seen on last seasons Below Deck Med, Malia was required to report Hannah’s Valium and discusses how he himself interprets Maritime Law in regards to bringing prescription mediation on board a vessel. Speaking of Hannah Ferrier, we discuss his current thoughts on Hannah and the status of their relationship today. João also opens up about his time filming with Captain Sandy, the ups and down in their relationship since filming, how social media has led to some of the “downs” in that relationship and how BravoCon led to a strange interaction between the two. João also gives us the real deal, holding nothing back, about just how accurate is Below Deck Med when compared to the Real World Yachting Industry and discusses which is more difficult, a Below Deck Charter or a Real World Charter. As far as Real World Charter’s, our mouths are agape when João describes particular charters he has been on with Presidents of Countries, Famous Actresses & Actors and Billionaires. Some of his stories have left The Rope speechless. @joaograntfranco @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by Better HELP https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Ep 265Kate Flannery (On The Office, Dancing With The Stars, Comedic Inspirations & New Movie)

E

Kate Flannery steps Behind The Rope. Yes, THAT Kate Flannery. Meredith Palmer. Kate shares her journey to becoming one of today’s top comedians. That journey began, in part, at Second City’s Improv Comedy Troupe. That Comedy Troupe was also the training ground for many of our other favorite funny ladies and gents which Kate is happy to chat about - such as Jane Lynch and Steve Carell. Speaking of Steve Carell, Kate entertains all of our many questions about The Office - how she was cast, which plot lines were her favorite, all the behind the scenes fun, what it was like to play fan favorite Meredith Palmer in all her glory, drinking problem and all, and where would Meredith be today, to name a few. We discuss how the ratings for the first season were less than stellar and then a little known movie called “The 40 Year Old Virgin” came into our lives and the rest is history. With the reboot trend not slowing down anytime soon, we chat Office reboot and what exactly that would look like. Kate also opens up about her participation in Dancing With The Stars discussing what dancing each week on national TV in America’s most famous ballroom was like and a few of our favorite of her fellow dancers, James Van Der Beek, Karamo Brown, Lamar Odom Bachelorette Hannah Brown. We also talk about some of Kate’s biggest inspirations that led her to pursue a career in comedy, the strangest Office fan encounter she has ever had, and how and why “being recognized” never gets old. Finally, we chat about her upcoming new movie about Women’s Arm Wrestling. sign us up, “Golden Arm” and that, we can't help but make the comparison, other brilliant Women's Wrestling show, Netflix's "Glow". @thekateflannery @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by Better HELP https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 264TIFFANY MOON (on RHOD Current Season & Upcoming Reunion!)

E

Tiffany Moon steps Behind The Rope. That's Doctor Tiffany Moon from The Real Housewives of Dallas who stops by to chat about all from her freshman year. Tiffany opens up about the difficulties of filming a reality show, raising two children and being a full time physician while filming a reality show. We chat about some of the seasons biggest dramas thus far as they related to Tiffany - the epic Austin vacation, being thrown in the pool and hazed to drink Tequila by Kary Brittingham, Kameron Westcott and her aversion to chicken feet, Brandi Redmond and her aversion to crickets, to name a few. Speaking of Brandi Redmond, Tiffany opens up about Brandi's “racially insensitive” viral video heard ‘round the world’, what it was like to confront Brandi on camera, and the status of their relationship today. We also discuss and dissect Brandi's recent statement of potential departure and hypothesize whether she is really leaving the franchise. We also chat about Tiffany’s own recent statement that she may only be “a one season wonder” and chat about our other fav RHODs D’Andra Simmons and Stephanie Hollman. With the reunion looming, Tiffany explains who she is most anxious to see, what issues she feels will be resolved, and those which she thinks are beyond repair. On a more serious note, we discuss the importance of Asian American representation on shows like RHOD and analyze how Tiffany has changed both on and off camera throughout the season as a result of being a part of the friendship group. Finally, we could NOT let Doctor Moon go without a deep dive into her infamous closet with Tiffany answering all of our burning questions regarding this already iconic Housewives’ masterpiece. Ep 263Gregory Zarian Returns (on RHONJ, Kathy Wakile, The "Biz", & 86 Melrose Avenue!)

E

Gregory Zarian steps back Behind The Rope. We have to stop meeting like this. With his “Behind The Velvet Rope” coffee mug in hand - sorry Melissa Rivers, yours is on the way - let us not forget Gregory has been in many, and we mean many, of our favorite TV shows - Nip/Tuck, The OC (Queen Mischa), 90210, Revenge, Westworld, Criminal Minds, Bones and Castle. Let us also not forget his role as “fan fav” Julius on General Hospital. Gregory and David chat about “the business” - the highs and lows, the biggest misconceptions of what it means to be an actor, how he prepares for a role, how not to take everything personally, and the most difficult aspects of the business. On that note, Gregory opens up about the constant rejection any and all actors and actresses face, whether that ever gets easier and the advice he would give someone just starting out. We also chat about the, for better or worse, presence of social media in the entertainment business today and the role it plays. This brings up larger discussions such as why people pursue the craft of acting, bullying both IRL and on social media, cancel culture and just what is going on in this ever changing world on a daily basis. Wow. Who knew we were so serious. Speaking of bullying, Gregory chats about his role on the brilliant Venice: The Series, which dealt with issues of bullying, a role he is most proud of. On a lighter note, Gregory chats about his brand new movie, 86 Melrose Avenue, about a diverse group of people at a gallery opening taken hostage forcing them to confront their cultural differences, pasts and potential looming mortality as time ticks away. Ep 262MELISSA RIVERS (on Joan, Joining RHOBH, The Oscars & Mrs. Maisel)!!!

E

Melissa Rivers steps back Behind The Rope!! Yup, she is baacck!! We could not think of anyone better to help us break down all the red carpets of this past awards season than the one and only Fashion Icon herself, Melissa Rivers. Melissa does know a thing or two about fashion having hosted and executive produced that little blockbuster of a hit show, “Fashion Police” for many years. Melissa opens up about what Fashion Police would look like in 2021 and would she really ever consider going back. We chat with Melissa about the red carpet fashion, or lack thereof, seen in the past few weeks and chat about her predictions for the upcoming Oscars, which will be held live (no Zooms allowed!). We discuss the best and worst dressed of this awards season, who we have our eye on, and what and who it would take to “fix” the current red carpet situation. The last time we chatted with Melissa Rivers, The Rope had a viral moment regarding Joan Rivers and what her thoughts on wearing a mask would be - Google It. To that extent, we followed up the only way we know how, by discussing what would Joan Rivers think and say about having one's entire glam team come over, spend hours and hours making you up, slipping on a way overpriced height of fashion dress, shoes and jewels to travel to your living room to sit in front of a computer and accept an Award. Or your kitchen? Or bedroom? Speaking of Joan Rivers, she was always honest about her feelings for Ellen. We ask Melissa about Ellen and the public scrutiny she has received over the past year for being a rumored “mean girl”. We chat about Cancel Culture, are comedians “exempt” by the very definition of the job, and how would Joan hold up in our current climate. Of course, we had to ask Melissa the obvious question, would she ever consider joining RHOBH? We chat about who she knows on the cast, what type of Housewife she would be, what type of Real Housewives Mom Joan Rivers would be, and finally what she thinks of our fav diamond holders’ fashion choices. With Housewives and TV on the mind, we chat with Melissa about her ex Fashion Police co-host Nene Leakes’ current “Boycott Bravo” petition and can one ever come back from going against a network, what family she thinks is prime to be the next royal family of E once the Kardashians step aside, and when will she start receiving royalties for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which is so very obviously based on the life of the most Iconic Female Comedian to ever live, past, present, future til the end of all time, Miss Joan Rivers. @melissariversofficial @melissariversgrouptext @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope This episode is brought to you by https://www.storyworth.com/velvet ($10 off First Purchase) This Episode is brought to you by Apostrophe https://www.apostrophe.com/pod/VELVET/ ($15 off First Visit) Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Ep 261Michael Fishman (Tells All on Roseanne, The Conners and playing D.J.) - Part II

E

Having discussed how Michael broke into the business at age six with his Rosanne audition and what it was like working on one of televisions all time greatest shows for a nine year run, we pick up right where we left off last time. Michael looks back sharing his opinions why he think Roseanne was not only such a critical and ratings darling for its entire run but will forever go down in history as one of the shows that changed the face of TV as we know it. Michael opens up about his “lean years” after the show ended, how he didn’t hear from family members Rosanne Barr, Laurie Metcalf, John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, and Lecy Goranson as often as he expected, how he got a fast education once he returned to public high school and various odd jobs both in and outside the entertainment business and how playing the part of D.J. Conner for nine years led to a “typecasting” that proved not always an easy feat to secure new roles. Then one day John Goodman appeared on Sara Gilbert’s “The Talk” and everything changed. Within two months, the entire original fast had signed on the dotted line and “Roseanne, The Reboot” was official. Having premiered to insanely stellar numbers, all was great with the world and the family was back together. Not so fast. One viral tweet from Roseanne, would change all that! Just like that, The Reboot was cancelled, the public reacted, Michael issued a statement, Roseanne responded, and…. We discuss the psychology and mental state of what it was like for Michael to get hired for Roseanne, lose his job as D.J. Conner in an instant after Roseanne’s tweets, make an official public statement denouncing the tweets (and including his own views on diversity and inclusion), hearing from Roseanne (publicly) in response to his statements hint: she was not happy, and the “fall out” (however temporary or permanent) of a very close friendship with Roseanne, a woman who was like a second mom and saw him grow up. Confused, Dazed, Shocked and many more adjectives - we emotionally go through the full trajectory of emotions, as well as the exact timeline associated with those emotions. Emotions which then included a job offer to “reprise his role”, immediately, in The Conners. It has been a rollercoaster of a ride to present day, present season of The Conners and Michael is here to share it all as we conclude our Two Part chat with the actor behind the iconic role of D.J. Conner. @reelmfishman @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope This episode is brought to you by https://www.storyworth.com/velvet ($10 off First Purchase) This Episode is brought to you by Apostrophe https://www.apostrophe.com/pod/VELVET/ ($15 off First Visit) Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Ep 260Alaska (on Drag Race, Joan Rivers, Margaret Cho, & New Comedy Special)

E

Alaska steps Behind The Rope. Yes, Alaska Thunderf**k in all her glory. We start with a brief chat with Alaska about how and why she started doing drag, her fashion inspirations for Alaska’s unique style and makeup and the origins of her infamous name. Alaska opens up about being rejected from Drag Race seasons one through four before finally being given a coveted spot by Ru in season five. Alaska discussed what she feels was different with her drag by season five in order to be chosen as one of Ru’s gals, the reality of the show versus what we all see on TV each week and her runner up status - damn you Jinkx Monsoon. All worked out with Alaska’s runner up status because she returned a few years later for All Stars 2 and this time she won. We delve into the public criticism Alaska received after her win and time on All Stars, the effects of social media on anyone in the public eye and how she moved on from there. One of the ways she moved on was comedy and that comedy included her All Stars Reunion leg toss based on the original iconic leg toss by our very own RHONY’s Queen Aviva Dresher. Of course, we need all the details about the decision to recreate this brilliantly classic moment! Speaking of Bravo, Alaska discusses her appearance on Watch What Happens Live with former Rope guests Peppermint and Trinity, Andy Cohen and the other “guests” that night. Now Alaska has first ever comedy special she is here to chat about called “The Alaska Thudnerf**k Extra Special Comedy Special”. Alaska discussed her comedic inspirations - Joan Rivers, Phyllis Diller and Margaret Cho (who is also part of the special), her decision to put this out in a social climate different than when it was originally committed to, the good and bad of cancel culture, what a comedic legend like Joan Rivers would say if she were alive today about cancel culture, and just what is up next for this Comedy Queen, no pun intended, herself. One thing we know for sure, she is busy with her “day job” hosting the hilarious “Race Chaser” podcast with Willam. Ep 259Kary Brittingham (on RHOD Past, Present & Future!)

E

Kary Brittingham steps Behind The Rope. We waste no time in breaking down all the goings on this current Season Five of RHOD. Kary chats about her on again - off again “relationship" with newbie Tiffany Moon. Kary breaks down some of her biggest “dramas” with Tiffany so far this season and chats about why they just can’t seem to see eye to eye. Kary also addresses her current unexpected “issues” with Trunk Show Partner in Crime D’Andra Simmons. We discuss the word “bully” which has been thrown around a lot this current RHOD season and address whether that word is being appropriately used in regards to, not only to Kary, but the rest of the cast as well. We have a rapid fire round with Kary on such pressing topics as: nicest, closest with, most fake, who should be replaced, and many others as it relates to Tiffany, D’Andra, Kam, Stephanie and Brandi. Breaking the fourth wall, we address how RHOD, and every other Housewives’ franchise, plays out in large part on social media, as opposed to TV, and how one learns, Tiffany we are speaking to you, to deal with that. Speaking of off air, Kary shares her opinions on Brandi Redmond’s cryptic Instagram message that has viewers wondering, is she really leaving the series? Of course, with all the drama surrounding Kary and some of the other women this season, D’Andra and Tiffany, we needed to ask Kary if she wishes OG LeeAnne Locken were back, instead of one of those two, or in addition to help deflect the drama. Finally, Kary dishes on who she is and is not following on social media, the current status of all of her relationships with RHOD present and past, yes LeeAnne included, and just why don’t we see more of her husband, Eduardo, this season on RHOD. @karybritt @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope This episode is brought to you by https://www.storyworth.com/velvet ($10 off First Purchase) This Episode is brought to you by Apostrophe https://www.apostrophe.com/pod/VELVET/ ($15 off First Visit) Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. The Real Housewives of Miami's Ana Quincoces (Catching Up)!

With all this talk about a Real Housewives of Miami Reboot, today we share our chat from a few months ago with RHOM's Ana Quincoces. Ana fills us in on all that she has been up to since we last saw her on our TV screens on the classic Bravo Show, The Real Housewives of Miami. Born and raised in Miami, of Cuban descent, Ana is here to tell it all. Ana and David bond over both being recovering lawyers and having moved on to other great careers. In Ana’s case, she has been running a legit business, Skinny Latina. Started in 2013, it is a marinate and sauces business, to help making cooking easier and to help make anything taste good. With a name like Skinny Latina, we have to ask, has she heard from Bethenny Frankel or her Skinny Girl team? The answer is not what you would expect. We also discuss her appearance on the "Food Network Star" and how her fellow contestants felt she got special treatment for being a former “Housewife”. Speaking of Housewives, Ana discusses how she originally got cast, why she said yes to the opportunity and how the producers really felt about her. Ana tells us all about her cast mates Lea Black, Adriana de Moura, Alexia Echevarria, Marysol Patton, Lisa Hochstein, Karent Sierra and last, but certainly not least, Joanna Krupa and where her relationship with reach stands today. She explains what being on Watch What Happens Live was like and how her life changed as a result of being on the show. One career high was co-hosting The View - we discuss Barbara Walters, was the environment really as "toxic" as everyone says and what happened when two of her guests were RHONJ's very own Melissa Gorga and Jacqueline Laurita. Ep 257Bethenny Ever After's "Coordinator of Chaos" - Julie Plake McMinn (Catching Up!)

E

With all of this nostalgia floating around the BravoVerse these days, we couldn't think of a better Bravolebrity to have join us than "Fan Favorite" Julie Plake McMinn. You know Julie Plake, The “Coordinator of Chaos" from the Iconic Bravo shows “Bethenny Getting Married” and “Bethenny Ever After.” Checking in from her home in Pittsburgh, PA, with husband and 3 kids in tow, Julie takes us back to the beginning. She moved to New York City basically overnight on a whim when she got a job offer to work at a series of famed New York City magazines. It was at one of those magazines, Hamptons Magazine, that she met Bethenny Frankel, who was hired to cook a brunch at Julie's boss' house. Julie was sent to be Bethenny’s Sous-chef for the day. In typical Bethenny fashion, Julie was thrown right into the job never having been asked by Bethenny of her qualifications or experience in the kitchen. They bonded. After that brunch, Julie said to Bethenny, (1) you are going to be famous and (2) when you are, call me and I will come work for you. News flash. Bethenny did become famous. Very famous. Another news flash. Julie did end up working for her, as seen on Bethenny’s two blockbuster Bravo shows. Julie takes us on her journey of working for Bethenny during the start, rise and sale of the Skinny Girl Empire. She bestows us with the wisdom she learned from Master B herself, what a typical work day looked like, what it was like to film a hit Bravo TV show, the decision to ultimately leave the B, and what that conversation looked like. Julie was also there for the beginning of Bethenny’s relationship with Jason Hoppy, which we dissect. We chat with Julie about recent developments in Bethenny’s life - a hit Podcast, brand new apprentice style show “Big Shot With Bethenny” and engagement - Paul Bernon we are looking at you, as well as in her own life - new business “The Learning Match” which helps connects parents to the educators they need and ongoing "JPM Branding and Consulting” where she shares the wisdom she learned from the best business man, woman, anything we know, Bethenny Frankel, with the rest of the world!!! Ep 256Michael Fishman (Tells All on Roseanne, The Conners and playing D.J) - Part I

E

Roseanne’s / The Conners' Michael Fishman steps Behind The Rope. Little D.J. Conner all grown up. Let us start at the beginning. Cast at the young age of six, Michael began his acting career when Roseanne Barr herself fought for him to play D.J Conner despite any lack of formal training or experience. Michael discusses what it was like being the youngest on a set that included Roseanne, John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf and Lecy Goranson. Michael recalls the best and worst times during Roseanne’s original nine year run from 1988-1997, one of the worst being the death threats the cast received after Roseanne “performed” The National Anthem that was heard around the world. The “best" is the “family” that Michael inherited plus lots of fun guest stars such as Leo DiCaprio, George Clooney, Sandra Bernhard, Sharon Stone, and Bruce Willis, to name a few. Nostalgia at its best, Michael describes what it was like to be on a TV show that became a worldwide global hit overnight and had stellar ratings throughout the years. He also discusses the concept of fame and when he first became aware that he was and how “strange” it was as a child to be asked for your autograph. On a more serious note, Michael opens up about the misconceptions of being on one of America’s top rated and critically acclaimed television shows for nine years - that you are making tons of money and will never have to work again, that you can easily find work in another role when the party ends and that everyone in the “family” will keep in touch when the lights fade. Tune in to Part I of this very special two part sit down with one of TV’s permanent fixtures on our screens throughout the years, Michael Fishman. @reelmfishman @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by Mint Mobile https://www.mintmobile.com/velvetrope Brought to you by Better HELP https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Ep 255The Real World: New York's / Homecoming's Andre Comeau (On First Season, Current Homecoming Season & Being a Reality TV OG)

E

This is the true story…of seven strangers…picked to live in a house…(work together) and have their lives taped…to find out what happens…when people stop being polite…and start getting real… On that note, Andre Comeau from the original grandaddy of them all, The Real World: New York, steps Behind The Rope. THE show that changed, introduced, formed and revolutionized Reality TV. We start at the beginning by asking the question, just how did Andre get cast on the first ever Real World in NYC and what was casting like way back when. With no prior reality show to look to, we discuss how he knew what to do when the cameras started rolling - he didn’t. With no predecessor to look to, we discuss how this makes the Real World, New York, Season One possibly the most authentic reality TV show ever. Andre discusses what he thought the show could do for his up and coming rock band, how he was able to get used to cameras around 24/7, the influence of producers back then, and what he thought of his edit once the show aired. Andre discusses what MTV was like back in the day when it was the channel that played music all day and how he thought the Real World would maybe be a little show that a few people watched. On that note, we talk about how life suddenly changed once the show aired and became a multigenerational blockbuster of supreme magnitude. We discuss his house mates Eric, Julie, Norman, Heather, Kevin, and Becky and the groundbreaking issues they dealt with way ahead of “their time” such as racism, sexuality, The AIDS crisis. Andre opens up about the aftermath of being in the spotlight, the identity crisis he suffered, the highs and lows of the entertainment business and how to navigate it successfully and come out the other side. Flash forward 29 years, MTV comes a’ callin’ and Andre finds himself back in the same loft for an epic 6 episode arc, The Real World Homecoming: New York. Andre chats about how much has changed, how much has stayed the same, what it was like to see everyone again, the re-heated confrontation between Becky and Kevin over the issue of racism, and just how much the original holds up in the world we live in today. @andrecomeaumusic @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by Mint Mobile https://www.mintmobile.com/velvetrope Brought to you by Better HELP https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
