S9 Ep 39Episode #39: Quarantine Edition | Mother Beer with Émilie Leclerc of La Petite Bière + Noah Forrest of Beerism | Adjunct Series
EFor the final podcast of 2020, we figured we'd just kick back with some fire brews and hang out with some homies. Émilie has been a friend of the podcast for a couple of years now, and it was finally time to have her on. A prolific Instagrammer, actress, dancer and a well-known Quebecois craft beer personality, Émilie is basically known as "mother beer" to her fellow female beer Instagrammers with her experienced advice for those new to the game. We brought in the 2020 BAOS co-host MVP Noah of Beerism, as he's the reason we knew Émilie in the first place, to hang out, get nerdy about the life of beer media folks like ourselves, and crush two of Ém's fave styles - NEIPAs and Imperial Stouts. We rocked with amazing Quebec breweries including Messorem Bracitorium, St. Ambroise, À La Derive and 5e Baron. Thank you all for the support this year, it's been a challenging but inspiring one. Have a safe and healthy holiday season, and we'll see you in January. Get it in ya! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 38Episode #38: Quarantine Edition | Kentucky Bastards with Ben Griffiths + Liam Moat of Nickel Brook | Adjunct Series
EBack in 2011 when Cee first started his 365 Days of Beer thing (long before the podcast), he took an Ontario beer trip with former co-host Scott, and the first brewery they went to was Nickel Brook. They happened to meet co-founder John Romano, who gave the guys their first-ever private brewery tour, something that they always appreciated. Fast forward to 2020 and Nickel Brook have updated their branding, they have an incredible barrel program, and they've pumping out fantastic beers seemingly every week. For some reason, this is the first time we've had NB on the podcast, but we finally got it done. Cee hung out with head brewer Ben and marketing guru Liam to get the full NB story, how they've grown over the years, and touched on their rebrand while drinking their new Winter Wizard IPA, barrel-aged sour Uncertainty Principle 7, and the 2020 Kentucky Bastard bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout. S9 Ep 37Episode #37: Quarantine Edition | Flavour-Driven with Pierre-Hugo Houle + Max Bergeron of Brasserie Générale + Noah Forrest of Beerism | Adjunct Series
EJust before we recorded this episode, we realized that this was our first ever podcast with a brewery from Quebec City - something that was truly well overdue. Thanks to our fave guest co-host Noah Forrest of Beerism, we were put onto Brasserie Générale earlier this year, and when Tiff and Cee headed out east this summer they were top of the list to visit in the province's capital. Having recently celebrated their 7th anniversary, BG truly has made their presence known in Quebec this year with their juicy, sweet IPAs, and their bold and balanced pastry stouts. Their latest launch this past weekend included a big Oreo pastry stout, a huge yet balanced triple IPA, and a glorious, thick smoothie sour. We got into Double Dip, Interlude and their seventh anniversary release, Calculon, for this super fun chat. Get it in ya! S9 Ep 36Episode #36: Quarantine Edition | Hurricane Derrick with Derrick Robertson of Pub BreWskey + Noah Forrest of Beerism | Adjunct Series
EOne of the top contenders for the MVP of Quebec craft beer in 2020 is Pub BreWskey. Helmed by Derrick Robertson, his unique and genre-bending beers have made a huge dent in the QC scene this year, and his sours have essentially made them the "smoothie guys". And while their smoothie sours are unbeatable in Canada, their haze, stouts and crispybois are nothing to sneeze at, either. Once again, we brought in our fave guest co-host, Noah Forrest of Beerism, to hang out with Derrick for an epic four-hour chat. We dove into a ton of beers, from the hazy pales to their DDH DIPAs, their smoothie sours, pastry stouts, and even their first ever fruited hard seltzer, we went deep into smoothie sours (arguably the most controversial style of the year), got nerdy about hopping rates, and a whole lot more. This one is worth catching the whole chat. Cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 35Episode #35: Quarantine Edition | For The Kulture with Latiesha Cook of Beer Kulture | Adjunct Series
EOver the past few years, one organization has dominated the conversation surrounding diversity and inclusion online. Beer Kulture, founded by Dom and Latiesha Cook in 2017, has been unapologetic in their approach to ensuring BIPOC have a voice in craft beer. With features in Bloomberg, Forbes, Vinepair, Brewbound, Hop Culture, Good Beer Hunting and of course, BAOS Podcast, the world is truly taking notice. Converting to full non-profit status earlier this year, Beer Kulture's mission has only intensified, with scholarships, food and clothing drives, and an active industry job board making up only some of their activities. Cee and Tiff finally sat down with Latiesha after a long online friendship to share some beers (Tiesh rocked Beer Kulture's two Cloudwater collabs, a Festbier and a Märzen, while Cee and Tiff got into Doom Boy from Town Brewing and Black Is Beautiful from Sir John x Weathered Souls) and laughs. This is a fun one, enjoy! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 34Episode #34: Quarantine Edition | Blind Haze with Noah Forrest of Beerism, Matt McGachy of Vox & Hops + Kevin of La Canette | Adjunct Series
EBlind craft beer taste tests are becoming quite the thing for the team at BAOS, and for this episode, we went all out. We brought in the dream team of Noah Forrest of the esteemed Beerism.ca, and Matt McGachy of the dominant Vox & Hops (and vocalist of Cryptopsy), to help out Cee with a festive four-pack guessing game thanks to La Canette, a fantastic specialty craft beer store in the Villeray neighbourhood of Montreal. Kevin of La Canette and his team hand-selected four NEIPAs from Quebec and expertly wrapped them so no cheating was possible, and the fellas had to guess the exact style (single NEIPA, double, triple etc), the hop bill, the ABV, any tasting notes and finally, the beer and brewery. Overall, the team did really well, and it wouldn't have happened with the legends at La Canette - make sure you get down to 7255 St. Hubert! Note: About 90 minutes in, Cee had a legit fall. He knocked over the final beer and was annoyed, rushing to clean it up to get back to the podcast when he took a spill in the kitchen. It sounds like he's just angry about spilling the beer but the bruises across his entire left side tell a different story. He's not crazy, he just got hurt pretty bad - but he pushed on and finished the podcast, even with a bleeding armpit and throbbing limbs. S9 Ep 33Episode #33: Quarantine Edition | Collab City w/ Noah of Beerism, Nathan of NathanDoesBeer + Chris of Hops&Bros | Adjunct Series
EIt feels like we talk about our storied group chat with our Canadian beer media homies every damn episode, so for the first time ever, we finally had the whole squad on the podcast. Regular BAOS co-host Noah Forrest of Beerism, Nathan Lefebvre of NathanDoesBeer (and BAOS's lead blog writer), and Christoph Paquette of Hops & Bros (and 5e Baron) joined Cee for an epic display of exquisitely-timed beer media brewery collaborations. The podcast concept started because Noah's collab beer (and rebrand) with 5e Baron - Hopism - dropped this past week, and coincidentally, and Chris was picking up the new can of Hops & Bros, their collab with Tuque de Broue for the fourth year running, at the same time. We also happened to have some cans of Bière de Vacances, BAOS's annual collab with L'Espace Public, kicking around from the late August/early September release, so we were able to crush three collabs at once. This was a super fun episode, briefly interrupted by a power outage at Cee's place around 45 minutes in, but luckily the audio never cut out. Get it in ya! S9 Ep 32Episode #32: Quarantine Edition | Barrel-Aged Gold with Alex Ganivet-Boileau of Champ Libre + Noah Forrest of Beerism | Adjunct Series
EChamp Libre has been making fantastic beers for the past few years, and they were one brewery we've always wanted to have on. The whole #TeamLactose thing gathered steam in early 2019, and that's really when Cee and Champ Libre founder Alex really connected online. Thanks to Noah of Beerism, who once again co-hosted with Cee, we finally had Alex on the podcast, primarily to support their most recent trio of releases, including a pilsner barrel-aged for 6 months (it's INCREDIBLE), a barrel-aged Brett variant of their Éloge saison, and a DDH Amarillo version of their NEIPA Soleil Jaune. This was another epic chat, coming in at almost four and a half hours, so strap in. Around an hour to go, we brought in Champ Libre collaborator and multiple-IGA owner Jasen Gaouette to keep Alex's lengthy tangents on a leash. This was super fun, cheers! S9 Ep 31Episode #31: Quarantine Edition | #Crispyboiz with Jean-Phillippe Lalonde of Brasserie Silo + Birra Bar à Maison | Adjunct Series
EThere haven't been too many people who have been on the podcast twice, let alone three times, and JP Lalonde is one of those distinguished few. From his beginnings with La Succursale, to opening Birra in the heart of Montreal's Little Italy, to now opening his third brewery right before a global pandemic, JP isn't short of courage, passion and dedication to his craft. Brasserie Silo is JP's newest project in Montreal's Ahuntsic neighbourhood, so we started with two of his crushable ales (a kölsch and an alt), and he even took us on a tour of the brewery space, which looks beautiful. We then moved into some Birra beers, getting into their dry-hopped sour and coconut porter, covering all the details on his 2019 Czech Republic trip that inspired his Silo beers, what it was like opening and closing a brewery in the middle of COVID-19, and the gloriousness of a LUKR side pull. S9 Ep 30Episode #30: Quarantine Edition | Years In The Making with Jacob of 5e Baron, Noah of Beerism + Chris of Hops & Bros | Adjunct Series
EIf you follow us on social, you would have seen Aylmer, QC's 5e Baron's stunning cans plastered all across our pages since they opened mid-pandemic this summer. We obviously wanted to have them on the podcast for the first time in person at their gorgeous brewery, but we figured we may as well get something going sooner than later so we can celebrate their amazing beer, branding and energy. Noah Forrest of Beerism joined Cee once again to sit down with Co-Founder Jacob Barrette and Marketing / Taproom Manager Christophe Paquette (also good friends of the podcast as a fellow YouTubers with Hops & Bros) to crush three of their reoccurring beers - Des Moines Helles Lager, Mixtape (Green) IPA and Lucide Dream Breakfast Stout - and find out how the brewery came together, where the name came from, their approach to supporting local and promoting diversity + inclusion, and why they're so goddamned fire at everything they do. This was an amazing conversation, enjoy! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 29Episode #29: Quarantine Edition | Quality Control with Mike & Keegan of 4 Origines + Noah of Beerism | Adjunct Series
EIt seems that having Noah co-host the podcast with brewery owners who are friends of ours results in extremely long episodes. And we're here for it. Noah joined Cee once again for a great chat with Michael D'Ornellas and Keegan Kelertas of Microbrasserie 4 Origines, whom you may remember from episode #83 of the original seasons. Since we last hung out with the boys, a lot has changed. We crushed half a dozen of their fantastic beers, including their new lager, two of their hazy IPAs, their New England Blanche, their Pliny-inspired double IPA and their pumpkin lactose porter, and touched on everything that's happened since they opened, we got into their new direction, their collaborations, goals for the future and a lot more. Cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 28Episode #28: Quarantine Edition | #Hypeboiz with Steve & Chris of Third Moon + Noah of Beerism | Adjunct Series
EYou know how a podcast about craft beer can go. You hang out with cool people who are doing really cool things and making even cooler products, you're jamming and having insightful conversations, and all of a sudden a few hours have flown by. That can happen. But in five and a half years, we finally cracked our record for the longest podcast with the most hyped brewery in Ontario. Steve "Bebo" Pilotto and Chris Steininger of Milton, ON's Third Moon Brewing came through with guest co-host and podcast fave Noah Forrest of Beerism for what was a much-anticipated chat, and clocking in at just shy of five hours, it was a marathon. We crushed a bunch of their latest releases (IPAs and pastry stouts), found out more about their fascinating story, got into how the hype began and the challenges they've faced, and we wrapped it up with an hour-long tour of Chris's EPIC basement. You really have to see the video for yourself on our YouTube channel. Cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 27Episode #27: Quarantine Edition | #YawnBoiz with Noah Forrest of Beerism | Adjunct Series
EWhile interviewing breweries, learning about their stories and trying their range of beers is our fave thing to do, sometimes it's nice to just hang out with an old friend and shoot the breeze. Noah Forrest runs Beerism, Quebec's premier Anglophone craft beer blog. He's been on the podcast a handful of times as both a guest and a co-host, so since the scheduled podcast was postponed, we figured we may as well drink some fire and hang out. We got into some amazing beers - 3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze, Messorem Bracitorium's Sous Une Autre Forme IPA, Brasserie Générale's CocovalaN pastry stout and 5e Baron's Berlin Berry - while chatting about the difference between a gueuze and a lambic, how the SAQ works, why wine is so fire, and a whole lot of other fun nonsense. Get drunk with us! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 26Episode #26: Quarantine Edition | The Peoples Beer with Rodg Little of Oak Park + Theodore Mack Jr. | Adjunct Series
We don't often get to be part of craft beer history, and this episode was one of those occasions. Theodore Mack Sr. purchased the Peoples Brewery in 1970, making him the first African American craft brewery owner - ever. They were well known for their Peoples Beer Lager, which got some serious traction in its day. Now, more than 50 years later, with the help of the team at Oak Park Brewing in Sacramento, the beer is back and better than ever. We hung out with brewer Rodg Little and Mr. Mack's son, Theodore (Ted) Mack Jr., to find out how they connected, how one turns a recipe from the '70s into a modern beer, we heard Mr. Mack Sr.'s fascinating story of triumph through adversity in detail, and we were fortunate enough to drink the Peoples Beer Lager with two men who are helping the beer world recreate history. Note: The audio was inconsistent until around the 18-minute mark but it cleared up after that. Stick it out, this was a fascinating episode! S9 Ep 25Episode #25: Quarantine Edition | The Magic Base with Justin McKellar of Equals Brewing / Bangarang | Adjunct Series
EOver the years, we've rarely diverted from covering craft beer in our content. One time we did a great podcast with an amazing ciderie in Vermont, and another time we hung out at our favourite winery in Niagara, so we felt like it was time to venture off the beaten path and discover something new. We hung out with Justin McKellar of contract facility Equals Brewing in London, ON, to discuss their brand new hard seltzer, Bangarang, that dropped over the summer. We got into the brewing process, how they went from over 300 flavour possibilities and narrowed it down to three, what the hard seltzer market is looking like in Canada and a whole lot more, all while crushing their new mixer pack with all three flavours (mango, blue raspberry and lemon lime). Get some low calorie seltzer in ya! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 24Episode #24: Quarantine Edition | 5 Years Strong with Shehan De Silva of Lost Craft | Adjunct Series
EIf you've been around for a while, you'll be familiar with our relationship with Shehan De Silva of Lost Craft. We somewhat controversially came up together, making a dual splash on the Ontario craft beer scene back in 2015/2016, and Shehan has always been a great friend of the show. We haven't had him on since episode #41, so we had a lot to catch you guys up on. We discussed the challenges that contract breweries face with the pandemic, the new smaller batch brews they've been releasing, and what's next for Lost Craft in this super fun, candid conversation. We crushed a variety of their lineup between us, including a brand new beer, Rizen, that they're releasing soon. Cheers! S9 Ep 23Episode #23: Quarantine Edition | Blind Craft Beer Taste Test Challenge with Dahn | Adjunct Series
EFor all our long-time BAOS YouTube viewers, you may have seen one of our half a dozen or so blind craft beer taste test challenges that we've done over the years. Now that Dahn (Tiff's cousin from England) is around, we've been schooling him on craft beer and we figured it'd be fun to put his new knowledge to the test in his first ever blind craft beer taste challenge. Tiff, as always, tricked us good and proper, dropping a Pale Ale from Trailway, an NEIPA from 5e Baron and a sour from Nickel Brook on us. Want to know how Dahn fared? Listen to this slightly shorter episode, and check out the full video on YouTube to watch for the reactions. Cheers! S9 Ep 22Episode #22: Quarantine Edition | Beer With Soul with Catherine Roux of Boutique Cheers | Adjunct Series
EDuring the pandemic, we've spoken to a lot of breweries across the globe, from Los Angeles to Toronto, from Montreal to Melbourne, but there's one area of the supply chain that we've yet to touch base with - the deps. Specialty beer stores are a serious lifeline for breweries here in Quebec, as they're one of the main ways breweries can get their products to the people. One store that has been making some serious noise in the last year is Cheers Boutique. They were the first location in Quebec to set up an online store for local ordering, they keep their inventory to around 150 products to ensure freshness and no stale shelfies, and they've formed genuine relationships with a lot of breweries across the province. Cee hung out with Co-Founder Catherine Roux to get the details while sipping some fire from La Knowlton, Messorem Bracitorium, 4 Origines and Ras L'Bock. Cheers! S9 Ep 21Episode #21: Quarantine Edition | Un Bon Weekend dans La Capitale du Québec | Adjunct Series
ETiff and Cee have essentially been going non-stop since the lockdown began, with work, clients, podcasts and more from the very beginning. Last week, they finally zipped out to Quebec City and Gaspé for a mini work/vacay, so they took the week off from the podcast to give both themselves and the listeners some relaxing time off. The Quebec City portion of the trip was in collaboration with the Quebec City tourism office, so for this episode they ran through their entire journey, their feelings about our province's capital city, the beer scene out there and more (plus a little about Gaspesie), while drinking brews they picked up in the city including gems from La Barberie, Emporium, Brasserie Générale and Noctem. S9 Ep 20Episode #20: Quarantine Edition | Cartons, Cases, 2-4s & Slabs w/ Dereck Hales of Bad Shepherd Brewing | Adjunct Series
EThe third and final episode in our trio of Aussie bangers wrapped up with the legend Dereck Hales of Bad Shepherd Brewing in Melbourne. Originally from Northern Ontario, Dereck and Cee basically did the opposite move so they have a lot in common. You may have caught Dereck in the last Australian vlog from April 2019, but this was the first full-length chat they've had. We got into how Bad Shepherd came about, Dereck was very candid about how COVID-19 has affected his bottom line, we touched on their exciting, upcoming growth into national grocery chains, and we exchange some funny stories about a friend in common. This was a super fun episode, cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 19Episode #19: Quarantine Edition | Heaps Good with Matt Fay of The Revel Brewing Show | Adjunct Series
ENow that we're on an Aussie beer media kick, we figured we'd keep it going. We connected with Matt of The Revel Brewing Show at the beginning of 2019 when he was still preparing for launch, and in that time, Matt has taken the podcast to an enthusiastic Aussie craft beer scene and they're truly making a dent with it. We initially were meant to connect for this episode back in June, but it fell right in the middle of the social justice protests so the timing wasn't right. We finally made it happen, chatting about Matt's digital marketing agency work, the importance of marketing in craft beer (something we're both passionate about), what it's like to be a craft beer podcaster and a lot more. Get it in ya! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 18Episode #18: Quarantine Edition | Semi-Profesh with The Sunday Sesh Podcast | Adjunct Series
ESince we launched in 2015, we've typically focused on the North American craft beer scene, but over the past few years we've really drilled down on supporting the Australian craft beer scene. It's always dope to link with fellow beer media homies, so to link with beer media fam Down Under is extra cool. Cee connected with The Sunday Sesh boys - Steve, Mick and Stevo - a while back and Steve is a regular presence in the comments on our weekly podcasts, so it was overdue to have the boys on. A few technical glitches aside, we hung out with the fellas for a great chat to go over the Brisbane (and overall Australian) craft beer scene, how COVID has affected everybody out there, along with a whole bunch of Aussie shenanigans in a hilarious, super fun episode. S9 Ep 17Episode #17: Quarantine Edition | Real Hip Hop w Dan, Colin & Adam of Laylow Brewery | Adjunct Series
EIf you're an OG BAOS BrewHead, you may have been around for episode #49 when we first interviewed the boys behind Laylow Brewery in Toronto, the first Hip Hop-focused brewery in the country, potentially. We launched our engineer/photographer Notion's debut album at Laylow in 2017 with our first ever BAOS collab beer Hops On My Sleeve, and we've become fast friends ever since. We finally got to catch up with Dan Boniferro, Colin Weadick and Adam Marinelli to crush some of Laylow's fresh bottled brews, get an exclusive preview of their brand new merch, and find out how they've kept things going during the pandemic, tapping into new revenue streams and showing love to the community who made sure they didn't go anywhere. This was a fantastic chat, enjoy y'all! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 16Episode #16: Quarantine Edition | Black Is Beautiful with Marcus Baskerville of Weathered Souls
EYou may have seen the Black Is Beautiful worldwide collaboration concept basically everywhere online. Now with over 1000 breweries signed up across the globe, a small brewery in San Antonio, Texas has really made a name for themselves with their selfless and beautiful idea to support social justice and racial equality everywhere. Co-Founder of Weathered Souls Marcus Baskerville joined Cee and Tiff for a great conversation, speaking on the foundation of the brewery, his experiences as a Black man in the craft beer industry, and of course, we focused heavily on the Black Is Beautiful collab - how it came about, what inspired it, and how it went from a small idea to something much, much larger than they ever anticipated. This is a must-listen - enjoy! If you're a brewery who wants to participate in the Black Is Beautiful collaboration, visit blackisbeautiful.beer for more information. S9 Ep 15Episode #15: Quarantine Edition | White Lies with Patrick Howell of Blood Brothers | Adjunct Series
EWhile doing the podcast over Skype isn't optimal, it's given us an opportunity to catch up with some breweries we haven't had on in a while, and it's been genuinely awesome. We last hung out with Patrick, head brewer at Toronto's Blood Brothers, on episode #144 from July 2019, and while they were insane a year ago, they've continued to go from strength to strength. Patrick kindly remembered that Tiff's fave Blood Brothers beer is White Lies, their sour series with varying wine grapes, so we made sure we all got into their least common variant (Sauvignon Blanc with Nelson Sauvin hops), alongside their flagship pale ale Blood Light, passionfruit sour Autopop, their latest Devil's Trill DIPA, Trill Bill, and we capped it off with Fall of Thebes with blueberry. It was a fun and enlightening chat as always, enjoy! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 14Episode #14: Quarantine Edition | Whitby's Finest with Jeff Talmey of Town Brewery | Adjunct Series
ENow that we had a few weeks off from the interviews, we figured it was time to bring them back full force. You may remember our first podcast with Town Brewery back on episode #72 in January 2018 - as you would imagine, a lot has changed with the Whitby, ON brewery so we figured we were overdue for a catch-up. We hung out with co-founder and brewer Jeff Talmey for a great chat about all the changes to their business over time and due to COVID, while crushing a few of their new hop bombs - fruity pale ale Outside Jokes, their flagship IPA Square Wheels, and creamy IPA Finer Things. Town's beers are honestly some of the finest in Ontario, so if you're able to get down there or order online, get 'em in ya! S9 Ep 13Episode #13: Quarantine Edition | A War On Craft Beer | Adjunct Series
ELast week we spoke about the tone-deaf Molson campaign to put together an all-Canadian 2-4 for Canada Day, featuring beers from craft breweries. Well, the photos came out about the participating breweries, so we named and shamed all those involved who chose to team up with a company that has essentially proclaimed an all-out war on craft beer. Either you're looking to sell your brewery so you're cosying up to the big guys, or you're craft for life. Pick a side, my Gs. We decided to pop some beers from our two home provinces - Oshlag's IPA New England from Quebec, and Bench's Plum Grove from Ontario - while we discussed the fact that patios are back in full force (and why you won't find us on any), and launched the glorious BAOS face masks. Cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 12Episode #12: Quarantine Edition | Cee Loves A Chinwag | Adjunct Series
EIf you listened to or watched our last episode, you'll know that we tried to pod outside on the balcony to no avail, so for this episode, we headed back indoors. We grabbed two great beers - The City from Henderson, an English Pale Ale with a phenomenal story behind it, brewed to represent the beer that folks would have consumed a century ago; and Shubie, a raspberry sour IPA from Wellington, a fruity, tart, summer crusher. We discussed the recent campaign from Molson, #MakeItCanadianBeer, where they've attempted to solicit independent Canadian craft breweries to contribute to a case of beer to celebrate Canada Day today. Their sheer aggressively tone-deaf approach speaks volumes about both the company and the agency behind it, so we had a lot to say. We also tested out a new game, which we both kinda sucked at, but we're going to do it again with guests in future. Cheers! S9 Ep 11Episode #11: Quarantine Edition | Courtyard In The Sky | Adjunct Series
EIt's summer, it's hot af and our portable air conditioner only does so much, so for this episode, Tiffany and Cee hung out on their balcony - also known as their courtyard in the sky. We took a break from guests this week and had a chat while finishing off the beers from the latest Nickel Brook event Wobbly Pops that went down right before the podcast kicked off. Our Social Media agency, High Season Co., recently released a video breaking down how businesses can continue to operate while supporting social justice and the #BlackLivesMatter movement. We took those steps and then applied them directly to breweries, talking at length about how the beer business can move forward while being cognizant of supporting the very communities that keep them in business. Enjoy! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 10Episode #10: Quarantine Edition | Overlooked To Overbooked w/ Renee Navarro of Beer Diversity | Adjunct Series
EYou may have noticed that we took a break last week to observe #AmplifyMelanatedVoices, but this week we're back with a dear friend who also happens to be the leading voice in diversity and inclusion in the beverage industry in Canada - Renee Navarro. We interviewed Ren back on episode #81, and a lot has happened in her world since then. She created her platform Beer Diversity, she's been speaking at beer conferences across the continent, working with not only breweries but distillers, cider makers and wineries in Canada delivering her famous talks, and helping craft lasting diversity and inclusion policies in organizations that traditionally have never put time or effort into ensuring their staff comes from a wide range of backgrounds. You'll enjoy this one. Cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 9Episode #9: Quarantine Edition | Buy Back The Block w/ Beny & Teo of Crowns & Hops | Adjunct Series
EWe didn't anticipate that this week's guests would be so damn relevant and of the moment. You may be familiar with Beny Ashburn and Teo Hunter of Crowns & Hops from episode #67 a few years back. Since the Dope & Dank days, the two entrepreneurs have come a long way, rebranding, winning grants, and executing successful crowdfunding efforts for their new brewery in Inglewood, CA, all while fighting for equality, inclusion, and diversity. Right now, the community at large is hurting. Black lives have been oppressed and violently taken by the police for decades, if not centuries, and last week with the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, things hit a boiling point. Teo and Beny broke down how breweries can support their communities, just how their community supported them through the pandemic. Beny cracked a fresh can of Modern Times' Fruitlands, Teo drank a 28-month-old can of BAOS Podcast's Sawdust City collab Get It In Ya!, while Cee and Tiff opened two big boys from LA's Smog City. This is an important one, please listen and stay safe, y'all. BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 8Episode #8: Quarantine Edition | Doing (Beer) God's Work with Chris from Mr. Banks | Adjunct Series
ESince we've got the hang of this whole Skype podcasting thing, we figured it was time to branch out so we got hold of BAOS alumni and mate Chris Farmer from Mr. Banks Brewing in Melbourne, Australia, and brought him back. You may remember Chris from episode #75 of the OG podcast series, and damn, has he come a long way since then. Chris was always ahead of the curve in Australia with the hazy IPAs, lactose beers, and pastry stouts, but over the last two years, Mr. Banks has dominated, becoming one of the Top 2 hype haze breweries in the country. Since it was 10am in Melbourne, Chris crushed some coffee but we got stuck into a new nano IPA for Pride from Muskoka Brewery, and a saison from Melbourne's own La Sirène. Cheers! S9 Ep 7Episode #7: Quarantine Edition | 666.667 Beers (Ale Satan) with Matt McGachy (Vox & Hops, Cryptopsy) | Adjunct Series
EThe last time we had Matt on the podcast, we went #2 in Japan. The man has power. Matt has become a very close friend of the podcast over the last year, with Cee appearing on his podcast Vox & Hops alongside a great collaboration video and giveaway for our Top 10 Breweries in Quebec for 2019 at the top of the year. Now we're all safe at home, we figured it was a great time to bring Matt back on BAOS. We both cracked our respective collab beers (us with Echo Session Ales + Broadway, Matt with Henderson), the new collab from Ras L'Bock + Lagabière, and we finished on big stouts from Sawdust City (BAOS) and Beauregard (Matt). We chatted about the future of live music, the future of breweries, and discovered Cee's beer math is very metal. Cheers! S9 Ep 6Episode #6: Quarantine Edition | What's a Yawn Beer? with Noah from Beerism | Adjunct Series
EMoving forward with the guests, this week we hung out with a good friend of the podcast, Noah Forrest, arguably the most sought after beer blogger in Quebec. Tiff and Cee had attended A Night With Nickel Brook prior to the podcast, walking through their flagship lineup with Head Brewer Ben, so they decided to make it an NB night. Luckily, Noah also had a bottle of Nickel Brook's delectable Cafe del Bastardo on hand, so while Cee and Tiff finished off the NB cans, Noah crushed a table beer from La Ferme in Quebec. Over the luxurious imperial coffee stout, the gang chatted about the definition of a "yawn beer", PR packs, and whether Quebec's beer game has eclipsed Ontario. S9 Ep 5Episode #5: Quarantine Edition | The Fifth Ingredient with Chris from Hops & Bros | Adjunct Series
EWe've been loving that we can now have guests on the podcast again, so we kept it going with another good friend and fellow BrewTuber, Chris from Hops & Bros. Based in Gatineau, QC, just over the bridge from Ottawa, ON, Chris has been a mate of the podcast for many years now so it was super fun to catch up. Chris broke out some beers from Brasserie du Bas-Canada and Noctem, while Cee and TIff cracked some brews from Newark Brewing, two big, bold, barrel-aged Quads from Atlanta, GA's New Realm, and wrapped it up with some haze from Trailway (now available in Quebec!). We chatted about a ton of stuff in our longest podcast in a while. Good times. Cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 4Episode #4: Quarantine Edition | I Still Have Dreams About That Beer with Nathan Does Beer | Adjunct Series
EIf you've been following us over the years, you may have noticed that we don't do Skype interviews. Well, we did on Episode #6 and #11/#12, but those were the early days. We moved to a model that was visually-focused so actually being in the brewery with our guests was paramount to what we were trying to achieve with the podcast. But with the pandemic, all rules are out the window. Through the magic of technology, we dialled in our good friend and Lead Blogger at BAOS, Nathan Lefebvre of NathanDoesBeer. We all cracked some fire brews from one of our perennial faves, Half Hours On Earth, chatted about how he's coping with everything going on, how difficult it still is to get hype haze, and a ton more. Cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 3Episode #3: Quarantine Edition | Keep The Same Energy | Adjunct Series
EQuarantine still going, eh? No problem, we gotchu with more isolation content to keep you entertained. Cee and Tiffany are back at it, this week chatting about the Other Half All Together worldwide collaboration, the Brewer's Association's survey showcasing beer sales dropping sharply alongside some local anecdotal opposites, packaging Imperial Stouts in short cans for easy consumption, and how people are buying beer during a pandemic. We're also celebrating New Brunswick haze gods Trailway Brewing making their move into the Quebec market as of April 23rd, so we cracked open Dunder (Australian Pale Ale), Hu Jon Hops (IPA - the first beer hitting Quebec) and Sensible Nonsense (double IPA). Get some haze in ya! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 2Episode #2: Quarantine Edition | Imperial Cadbunny Creme Dream Birthday | Adjunct Series
EFor episode two of our Quarantine series of podcasts, we had an extra special reason to celebrate - it was Cee's birthday! The day was great for multiple reasons - primarily, of course, because it was the anniversary of Cee's birth, but it was the release of our newest collaboration beer and Bellwoods dropped Birthday Cake Milkshark. What a time. We reviewed the collab beer with Wood Brothers, Hops & Bros, NathanDoesBeer and Beerism, Cadbunny Brew, an 8.5% imperial milk stout with Creme Eggs, vanilla and cacao nibs just in time for Easter, ran through another fire Wood Brothers hazeboi, chatted about patterns we're seeing in the beer industry in these wild times, Tiger King-inspired beers, and quarantine drinking habits. Stay home, y'all. Cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S9 Ep 1Episode #1: Quarantine Edition | Five Years Ago Today | Adjunct Series
EAs you all are pretty aware, basically civilization is cancelled for the foreseeable future. We had to put our current season, Against The Grain, on hold, and also postpone the next season that we'd already started working on. We had already planned to do an Adjunct Series of somewhat random podcasts to fill the gaps between themed seasons, so now we bring you the Quarantine Edition. Since Cee and our producer Tiffany Alexis are isolating together, this is the new BAOS podcast team until things get back to normal. In celebration of Dieu du Ciel's Journée Péché that didn't go down on March 21st, they busted open the 2019 Péché Pack (as they weren't able to get their hands on the 2020 yet) and talked about what everyone else is talking about - the Rona. Note: All episodes will be live streamed on YouTube the weekend prior to the audio release. BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

S7 Ep 4S7 E4: La Pagaille de Sutton with À L'Abordage Microbrasserie | Against The Grain
ENot all incredible beer comes in cans - sometimes you just have to go to the source. Sutton, Quebec is a small ski town about 15 minutes from the Vermont border, and around 5 years ago a brewpub by the name of À L'Abordage opened their doors. After a year or so in business, the owner and head brewer, Cédrik Poitras, discovered New England IPAs and decided to bring this new style to his patrons. Fast forward to 2020, and À L'Abordage are one of the most underrated breweries in the province, consistently knocking out hazy IPAs and bold stouts worthy of all the Untappd hype. Up until now they've arguably been Quebec's best kept secret, but we blew the lid off that when we hung with Cédrik to discover what made him change the game in the south. S7 Ep 3S7 E3: Why Not Do It Ourselves? with Lagabière | Against The Grain
EIf you came up on craft beer in Quebec, you may have noticed an attractive green can that started popping up in speciality beer stores in 2017. Ta Meilleure, the unintentional flagship beer of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu's Lagabière, was arguably the first canned New England IPA in the province, and it truly changed the game. We sat down with founders, and brothers, Sébastien and Francis Laganière at their downtown Saint-Jean brewpub, after a quick visit to their large production facility close by, to find out what made them brew a beer that was never available locally, and ultimately, where that very beer has lead them. S7 Ep 2S7 E2: It's Just F*cking Beer with Messorem Bracitorium | Against The Grain
EIf you've ever listened to this podcast over the past few years, you'd likely have heard Cee complaining about the severe lack of haze in Montreal - Messorem were the literal answer to his prayers (or complaints, really). Owners Vincent Menard and Marc-André Filion, friends and fellow musicians, were constantly leaving the province to find the beer they truly wanted to drink, so they finally decided to just brew it themselves. Since its opening, Messorem has had lines of people every release day as they clearly not only answered our prayers, but that of thirsty Montreal (and Quebecois) craft beer drinkers. S7 Ep 1S7 E1: Ahead Of The Curve with Pub BreWskey | Against The Grain
EThe first episode of our new themed seasons goes down at Montreal's Pub BreWskey. You might remember us sitting down with Guillaume Couraud and Derrick Robertson in their Old Port brewpub back on Episode #68, but a lot has changed since then. The guys opened a taproom on the ground floor of the Marche Bonsecours building, and in August 2019, they finally installed their own equipment to turn it into a fully fledged brewpub. Since then, they've been going full steam, brewing juicy IPAs, rich pastry stouts and fruity smoothie IPAs, bring a very welcome new vibe to Montreal craft beer scene. Against The Grain: Season 7 of BAOS Podcast | Trailer
trailerWelcome to Season 7 of BAOS Podcast - Against The Grain, where we focus on breweries across Quebec who took the path less followed, and brewed beers that weren't so common in our glorious province. We sat down with some of the pioneers of Quebec's new craft beer scene to find out why they decided to do it their way, including Pub BreWskey, Messorem Bracitorium, Lagabière and more. Against The Grain, Season 7 of BAOS Podcast, coming February 26th on your favourite podcast platform. Cheers. S6 Ep 1BAOS Top 10 | #1 | #130 The Business of Marketing Craft Beer with Tiffany Alexis (High Season Co.)
EIt all comes full circle. Scott and I started this podcast as a fun side project. It quickly became a serious part of all our lives with an entire team behind it, and in particular there was someone who was driving the whole thing from the start. My partner in life and business, Tiffany, and I had been talking about doing a podcast about Marketing and Social Media, as we run an agency and we're genuinely passionate about the craft beer industry stepping up their marketing game. So when we finally did it, we really had no clue how impactful it would be. I kinda figured one of the big name breweries would be our most downloaded episode. But no, the people wanted to hear the team speak on something we're passionate about, and that's both inspiring and humbling. Thank you all for lending us your ears over the years. We hope you learned something, and had a few laughs. We're excited af for the move into themed seasons in 2020, we're already working on the first two seasons so stay tuned, and get it in ya! And oh yeah - Happy Holidays! ------------------------- Being that beer is both an art and a science, one key element of running a business often gets overlooked throughout the industry - Marketing. Our producer and Social Media Strategist Tiffany Alexis joins Cee, who just returned from a trip back home to Australia, for a full length chat about all things Social Media and Digital Marketing, Influencer Marketing, Public Relations and simply and clearly break down how craft breweries can win online. S6 Ep 2BAOS Top 10 | #2 | #131 The Finest Of Beer with Jordan Rainhard & Jeremy Sachedina (Rainhard Brewing)
EArguably the single most fun - and most infuriating - thing about creating content for the internet is the sheer unpredictability of it all. You never truly know what people will enjoy, so you give it your best and hope and pray that your audience is into it. We knew Rainhard were popular, Jordan Rainhard had been a lauded member of the homebrewing scene in Toronto, so for him to finally open his own brewery was kind of a big deal. But we couldn't have picked that he'd make it to No. 2. The chat was super organic; both Jordan and Jeremy, along with their team who helped us set up, made us feel super comfortable from the moment we walked in the door, the beers were all hits, and the conversation was genuine and eye-opening. We especially loved that he hired his mother to help him out, keeping it in the family. Enjoy our second most downloaded episode of all time! ------------------------- The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) boasts so many breweries that even folks as prolific as us have trouble getting around to them all. Rainhard Brewing, located in the Stockyards aka Aleyards District, has been evading us for a while now but we finally made it down to the spacious, welcoming warehouse-style location to hang out with award-winning owner/founder/namesake Jordan Rainhard and Sales Manager Jeremy to run through some of their fine brews and chat about their upcoming 4 year anniversary event. Cheers! Beers Reviewed: Rainhard Kapow! IPA; Rainhard Lazy Bones; Rainhard Rage And Love (Key Lime & Black Lava Salt); Rainhard Daywalker; Rainhard Sweetback's. S6 Ep 3BAOS Top 10 | #3 | #95 Lactocalypse with Noah Forrest (Beerism)
EWe've mentioned that we've been surprised by a lot of the top episodes, but this wasn't one of them. In keeping tabs on our downloads throughout the year, we noticed this episode consistently hovering in the Top 3, so for it to end up here feels just right. For those who don't know, Noah is a great friend of the podcast, he's featured on numerous episodes and this was arguably the most fun to date. The TL;DR is that we represent #TeamLactose and Noah is staunchly in the #TeamNoLactose camp, so what better guest to host for a milkshake IPA episode than someone so vehemently against them? This was shot on a hot July day in 2018, we got through 6 lactose beers back to back by the pool, and had a ton of fun talking all sorts of nonsense. Get some milk sugar in ya. ------------------------- The last time we had Noah on the podcast was back on Episode #55, and the day we recorded this was a year to the day we recorded his first appearance - so we knew this was meant to be. We have a group chat with fellow beer writers, YouTubers and Instagrammers where we debate the virtues (and otherwise) of lactose in beer, so we figured we'd settle it once and for all with a lactosravaganza of epic proportions. Are you #TeamLactose or #TeamNoLactose? Beers Reviewed: Lagabière Ta Pire; Microbrasserie Vrooden Mango Milkshake IPA; Brasserie du Bas-Canada Los Tabarnacos; Collective Arts Liquid Art Fest Milkshake IPA; Bellwoods Neapolitan Milkshark; Batch Rainbow Colors Blended. S6 Ep 4BAOS Top 10 | #4 | #96 Rainbow Of Deliciousness with Chris Pontsioen & John Legassicke (Silversmith)
EWhile Silversmith are Niagara-On-The-Lake actual OGs (as in the the first brewery in the region) and it's understandable that this would be a popular episode, while it was a super fun chat, while Chris was funny af, the fact it got so high in the Top 10 was still a pleasant surprise. It truly shows the power of a brewery with a strong local following, that even though they aren't the biggest and their distro doesn't reach super far just yet, their reputation precedes them. Oh, and their Black Lager is exceptional. The Top 5 is poppin' already, this was a truly entertaining episode with a character in Ontario craft beer. Enjoy, and grab a Black Lager if you can. For real. ------------------------- While Cee and Producer Tiffany were in Niagara-On-The-Lake celebrating her 30th birthday, it was only right that they swung by the OGs of NOTL, Silversmith. We hung out with Co-Founder Chris and Head Brewer John to run through their rainbow of beers, and you'll hear that most of the interview was Chris coming up with episode title gold. It was a tough choice. Try The Black Lager though, seriously. S6 Ep 5BAOS Top 10 | #5 | #88 Beers To Discover: Spotlight On Ontario
EWe've now reached the business end of the Top 10, and our fifth most downloaded episode isn't much of a surprise. Our audience began in Ontario, so we know that our ON content is always a little more popular and this particular episode was a ton of fun. We've done maybe three Spotlight episodes, and our second one on Ontario saw us crush some fantastic beers from across the province. The solo episodes with Cee and Scott are always a riot, and this one was no different. It's ironic that we filmed a podcast about Ontario beer in Quebec, but hey, it ain't about where you drink the beer, because the beer is always in our hearts. Think about that. Enjoy. ------------------------- Our second instalment in our Spotlight series of podcasts focuses on our other home base of Ontario, live from our BAOS East location in Montreal. We talk all things Toronto, of course, and focus on as many of our favourite beer markets in the province as we could fit in. We grabbed some beer from each corner of Ontario (well, as many corners as we could get hold of on short notice) and basically got 'em in us. S6 Ep 6BAOS Top 10 | #6 | #139 The Business of Marketing Craft Beer Pt. 2: Growing The Industry with Tiffany Alexis (High Season Co.)
EAs we round out the bottom five of our Top 10 Most Downloaded Podcasts Of All Time, we come across an interesting one. Our producer Tiffany Alexis, who also runs her wine, spirits and coffee account LiquidxHappiness, co-founded High Season Co., a social media agency, along with Cee back in 2015. There isn't really many other people so well positioned to give marketing advice on the craft beer industry than these two. It was a bit of a surprise to us that this episode made it into the Top 10 as we felt it was more aimed at industry versus the general drinking public, however clearly a lot of folks found it interesting and valuable, and it inspired us to continue talking about marketing and craft beer on the podcast. Tiffany is such a great speaker, this is a really fun conversation. Enjoy! ------------------------- Nine episodes ago, we brought our producer Tiffany on for a podcast about marketing in Craft Beer. The response was so overwhelmingly positive that we had to bring her back for another one! This time around, we delved deep into how we can all contribute to the growth of this burgeoning industry via all forms of marketing, including digital, offline, diversity, word of mouth, working with media + influencers, and more.
