Welcome back everybody to the AJ Osborne Podcast!    We’re living in some pretty interesting times - inflation, rising interest rates, social and political friction, volatile markets here in the US and globally, all coming off the back end of a long economic cycle of nothing but massive prosperity.    What does this mean for our businesses and our investments? What should we be doing to help adjust for these rapidly changing times? What does the future look like? These are all great questions and one’s you should be asking.    Truth is, there will always be a storm. Today, tomorrow, you never know exactly when or how the storm will hit or how long it will last. Yes there are some indicators and things we can look out for, but all said and done, these macro level economic drivers are things we have absolutely no control over. Unfortunately so many investors and business owners have banked on these uncontrollable factors playing out. They banked on the market to make them, and that’s a massive risk. We’ve experienced a long run of nothing but sunshine and huge gains, we’re talking 10+ years. The owners and investors who have planned on nothing but sunshine will soon find out the hard way that the sun doesn’t always shine.    No matter what point we’re at in a cycle, no matter the business or the deal - I’m always planning for the storms and I’ll never expect the market to do anything. I want to have as much control over my wealth and financial freedom as possible. I’m sure you want the same thing.    Right now today, I’m buying more deals than I ever have and growing my business faster than I ever have and very little of my decision making has to do with the general markets or economy. A deal is always a deal. Inflation just keeps going up and up. Government spending keeps going up and up. Interest rates are going up and up in an ever weakening economy. Despite higher interest rates, housing prices have stayed higher than ever due to demand.    All said and done, and as you might imagine, this isn’t a great recipe. Even still, this should honestly be expected.    One of the huge problems we see over and over again in our economy is individuals, investors, firms, and so forth expecting only good times. This is especially the case for those who didn’t go through the Great Recession of 2008.    It can’t be stressed enough - we should ALWAYS be planning for the downturns, the dips, the recessions. None of us have a crystal ball, therefore, we should err on the side of caution and plan accordingly.    This is what I’m going to talk about on today’s podcast. I want to help share the things we all need to be thinking about when it comes to our personal finance and investments. I want to help ensure that you have the insights to help you make the best financial and business decisions you can. You can’t bank on sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes we like to fool ourselves into thinking that we have something 100% figured out, that our path forward is totally linear. This is almost never the case. Life has a great way of reminding us every now and then about how much control we don’t have. Shoot, take me for example! I was doing great in the insurance world, bought a brokerage because I was going to crush it, and that totally fell apart. I recovered from that, began pouring capital into self storage, was totally crushing it, and then WHAM… I win the lottery and end up with GBS, on life support, and have to learn how to eat, and walk all over again. Bottom line? We never truly know what’s waiting for us around the bend. This can sound kind of blue and pretty hopeless right? Well, there’s a few things we can do to build a shield for us and our families to help weather these unknowns when they strike. Yes, you still get hit, but you have at least some barrier, some protection against what could have been a killing blow. This shield is exactly what we’re talking about in today’s podcast. Sharing this information actually accomplishes the complete opposite - it helps me, it helps the industries I'm in, and of course, it helps you. And it DOESN’T create more competition. Just think about this - because of these podcasts, videos, live events and so on that I’ve created and hosted, how many deals have been done? How many friends have been made? How many legacies have been started? How much freedom has someone been able to inject into their lives? It’s not even calculable, but just from the stories I’ve heard and even know about… the impact has been massive and it’s been staggering. In today’s podcast I’m going to dive into all of this. I’m going to share why it’s been so important for me to build these brands, this content, and this legacy. I’m going to share what we do, how we do it, and why fundamentals are great but learning the actionable steps to those fundamentals is SO much better. For those of you who haven’t heard my story - several years ago I went from totally healthy and normal, to in just a matter of hours, becoming completely and totally paralyzed because of a rare autoimmune disorder called Guillain-Barré syndrome. In a single immediate moment my life and my family’s lives were turned upside down. At first no one even knew what I had. The doctors couldn’t figure it out and even sent me home. Only for me to return to the hospital as paralysis began to take hold. It was terrifying and uncertain times, but this was just the beginning. I’m here today to tell you my story. Some of you might already know of me and my story, but today is something a bit more in depth in regard to the whole experience. Welcome back everybody to the AJ Osborne Podcast! I’m your host AJ Osborne!    Debt - there are very few subjects that have gotten as bad a wrap as debt has. Don’t get me wrong, debt when you don’t understand it… can be downright deadly. But debt used as a rocket fuel for generating wealth and income… that’s when debt becomes a massive force of leverage.    But how? How can taking on debt ever be a good thing? Isn’t buying all cash a better way to go? Isn’t paying off a loan as quickly as possible the best course of action? Yes and no, just like the above gives hint to - it depends on what kind of debt we’re talking about.    Let’s clear this up once and for all - not all debt is BAD and not all debt is created equal. We have two kinds of debt - consumer debt (which is generally bad and that you should try to avoid). And then we have revenue producing debt (which is the sweet nectar of the gods for investors).    This is just the tip of the iceberg and I couldn’t be more excited to help shed some light on this subject because I see it and hear it every single day.
