MP S02.E18: Arousing Suspicions

Things are going so well at Jane's -- and at the hospital, where Michael has returned to work -- that when Sydney shows up to ask him to support her at her upcoming court date, he laughs her off. Michael apparently still hasn't learned that he underestimates Sydney at his peril, because she goes straight to Jane, tells her pretty much the whole story about her work for Lauren, and tearfully confesses that Michael hired her to arrange for one of her ex-colleagues to seduce Robert. The sisters are reunited, and Michael is out on the street! ...Well, back in the beach house, with his pills. On his way out of Jo's to move into the boat, Reed learns that Amanda is rich, and immediately hits her up as a possible investor for the charter business he wants to start if he can just buy the boat he's been hired to work on! Amanda seems like she may actually be receptive to his pitch until he gets into her personal space, but she still lets him take her out for a little ride, which is when Jo shows up and sees them setting off. She orders Amanda to stay away from her man, which Amanda is perfectly happy to do. But Jake is suddenly very interested in what Reed is all about. An emergency fumigation of Celia's apartment building leads to her crashing at Alison and Billy's, annoying the former when she has to wait for the bathroom, while the latter finds that keeping close quarters with Celia unlocks their creativity as a writing team. And a chance encounter at an al fresco dining spot introduces Matt to a cute guy with a secret. No, it's not that he's gay. He is, but there's also ANOTHER secret! Also! MP S02.E17: Michael’s Game

As teased in the previous episode, Michael has given Sydney cash to arrange for one of Lauren's ladies to go to San Diego and videotape herself seducing her. Sydney's not so sure that Robert -- who's really in love with Jane! -- will be such an easy mark, but then she also sends a young Famke Janssen to play the role of horny married business traveler looking for no-strings-attached fun, so...Sydney. Come on. Jane's viewing of the tape has the expected result: she throws Robert out just hours ahead of the deadline she and Robert had both agreed she'd be turfing Michael. He just may have overplayed his hand with one of the other women he's scorned. When Alison goes over Amanda's head to get the MICROCOMP account back, we meet Amanda's boss, Bruce Teller (Stanley Kamel, the future Tony Marchette on Beverly Hills, 90210). He kindly recommends that Amanda take a couple of personal days to process everything that's going on with her dad, during which time Alison less kindly snakes one of the accounts Amanda's been neglecting. Amanda apparently touches down in Hawaii only to get right back on a return flight (at least poor Jake got to experience ten hours' worth of First Class?) to save her job, warning Billy that if he doesn't control his woman, Amanda's going to use every weapon she has against Alison, including the fact of Billy and Amanda's fornication while Billy and Alison were on a break. Reed crashes on Jo's couch while apartment-hunting in L.A., creeps her out by (a) snooping around her place while she's not there and (b) pulling her gun on her as a joke when he finds it. Can he get it in? Find out if Reed's one of the winners in our podcast on "Michael's Game"! MP S02.E16: Reunion Blues

Though Palmer has been offscreen since his arrest -- working on his defense, presumably! -- Amanda has continued to attack the person she thinks is to blame for it, and is now trying to evict Jake on the grounds of "spite," which they both know is flagrantly illegal. Thinking she can exploit Jo's anger over the end of her relationship with Jake (despite the fact that, you know, he started dating Amanda herself seconds later), she tries to get Jo to write a letter attesting to the damage Jake did to Jo's apartment in support of his eviction; Jo refuses, though that doesn't stop Amanda from just telling Jake she did to try to squeeze him. Eventually, the feds freeze the funds Palmer paid Jake, permitting Amanda to proceed on the basis of his having bounced a rent cheque to her, but she doesn't get far before Palmer asks her for a meeting to make a very difficult admission. (Oh, and in the midst of all this, she agrees to Billy's request that she not tell Alison they slept together, but then turns around and screws over Alison a different way, removing her from the MICROCOMP account for sleeping with Steve.) Sydney manages to stay out of sex work for exactly as long as it takes for someone to offer her another gig. Too bad she didn't stay with Lauren long enough to take a seminar on how to tell when a john is actually an undercover vice cop getting ready to entrap you! The only person she can think to ask to bail her out is Michael, who arrives at a typically Mancinian way for her to repay his favour. Alison talks Jo into attending her ten-year high-school reunion, against her better judgment; it turns out to be exactly the hellish affair Jo expected, except for her reconnection with her old flame Reed Carter. When she learns that he's freshly freed from incarceration on a false drug charge, she decides it's for the best that he lives in the Bay Area and their paths are unlikely to cross again for another ten years...or are they?! MP S02.E15: Under The Mistletoe

Christmas has come once again to Melrose Place, and with Nikki visiting, and to make sure she she has a magical holiday, everyone is willing to put aside their differences -- at least while she's around. Billy, who instantly regrets sleeping with Amanda, has to hide this scandal from both Alison and Jake. The former is dying to get him alone so she can just tell him that she and Steve never actually boned; the latter is desperate to buttonhole Amanda and convince her to believe him over her sainted father. (Meanwhile, Jo is trying to figure out how to sleep through the holidays, since she and Jake had their first kiss last Christmas Eve and she'd rather not be reminded.) Jane has had enough of Michael's moping, and makes plans to spend the holidays with Robert at his place. Since Michael can't be left alone, she hires no-nonsense Nurse Colleen to stay with him. Does Nurse Colleen's impatience with Michael's self-pity snap him out of his funk, or is his heartfelt apology to Jane and Robert just another scheme? Sydney takes on another lonely client, but feels so bad about it afterward that she stops into a church to confess her sins. (The scene cuts before we can see whether she gets noticeably sweaty.) MP S02.E14: Strange Bedfellows

Now that Alison has been forced to accept that Billy really actually did mean it when he moved out on her and in with Jake, she's free to go ahead and lock down Steve, as she had threatened to do in the last episode. There's just one problem: Steve's on his way to spend six months in Paris setting up MICROCOMP's European operation. But will he still go once he finds out Alison's finally single? Billy and Celia get assigned a joint feature on video dating, and though his reservations about taking on a subject that was passé even in 1992, this is Celia's first break at Escapade and she is determined not to let Billy and his sudden dim view of women screw it up for her. (Remember: she's new.) Just when Jake thinks he's all done informing to the FBI, Agent Hill asks him to wear a wire and record Palmer incriminating himself. Jake thinks he can just decline the request, so Agent Hill has to explain how Palmer hand-picked Jake to be his fall guy, and will pin all his crimes on Jake if the FBI can't make an airtight case against him. Michael continues trying to worm his way back into Jane's affections -- or, failing that, to inconvenience her so much that Robert will dump her -- but when he falls on the floor while he's at her place alone, Sydney's the only one to hear his cries for help, and proves she is his true soulmate by turning the situation to her advantage. MP S02.E13: Duet For One

Sydney was already wavering in her personal ethics when she decided to blow off Jane's invitation and have Thanksgiving with Lauren and the rest of her escorts. But now the rent is due, so Sydney can't screw around anymore. Or actually...that's all she can do because she needs a fast buck and she knows she can't possibly make it at Shooters or ask Jane for it. Her first client seems to have been chosen by Lauren as an easy on-ramp, and when Lauren follows up that date by handing off her credit card and telling Sydney to go on a shopping spree, Sydney gets a taste for life as one of Lauren's girls. Then her next date busts out some very vanilla bondage implements; Sydney gets spooked and, once again, tests the limits of what this gig economy employment opportunity actually affords. While all this is going on, Michael finds out that (a) Kimberly's mother has called the hospital to say Kimberly has died, and (b) he's well enough to move to a rehab facility to start working on his mobility. Unfortunately, the nicer hospital won't have a bed for him for another month, and the state hospital that can take him isn't up to his standards. Nothing for it but for Michael to manipulate Jane into letting him come live with her again! Alison returns from San Francisco to find out that Billy was actually serious about moving out of their place into Jake's. Their petty fights are as dumb as ever, and Jake is not available to be a sympathetic ear since, as he tells Billy, he has Palmer's criminal activity to shield from Amanda. And when Dr. Russia finds out that her mother is having a health crisis back in Russia (where else), Dr. Russia races home to look after her, leaving Matt as the only available responsible adult to take care of Nikki in her absence. MP S02.E12: Cold Turkey

An offhand conversation with another mechanic about how much their boss can reasonably charge for his reproduction Avantis leads Jake to do a little snooping in Mr. Woodward's desk, and what do you know: the guy's been fraudulently certifying that they're authentic originals! Jake isn't really sure what to do with this information (other than hint around to Amanda that her dad may be involved in something shady, maybe, possibly), but getting called in to talk to a couple of FBI agents will probably sharpen his focus somewhat. Having caught Steve sending Alison a rather polite email about missing her at the ranch, Billy decides to press his luck and demand that Alison give up the MICROCOMP account. She...obviously does not, but it does nothing to reduce the tension between them when she has to travel to San Francisco, on Thanksgiving Day, to deal with a snafu in the lead-up to a big MICROCOMP press conference. Billy tells her that if she goes, he's not going to be there when she gets back, and she's like, "BYE!" But then she has to acknowledge that Billy sort of has a point about all the lines Steve is blurring when she gets to San Francisco and Steve surprises her by showing up there, too. As usual, however, she doesn't really mind. Sydney tries to tell Lauren, and Ellen, and herself that she's better than sex work, but when her attempts to make holiday peace with Jane fall flat, she finds herself convinced that, actually, it might be nice to be welcomed into Lauren's stable after all. And Michael barely has a chance to rejoice in the news that Matt doctored his blood alcohol test results before he wheels in to Kimberly's room to find himself face to face with his would-be mother-in-law -- who's heard all about him, and isn't a fan. MP S02.E11: Collision Course

Apparently sex with Michael is better than any of us could possibly imagine, because despite EVERYTHING, he convinces Kimberly, over a champagne-soaked dinner, to give him another chance. He's so sure they're completely back on track that he even proposes, and though she's a little grossed out by his pushing his luck so far, she does still definitely want to bone, and they're on their way back to the beach house to do that when he fishes the ring out again and re-proposes and this time she says yes...just in time for his drunk, distracted ass to drive them straight into a guardrail and flip the car off a bridge. In the aftermath, Kimberly never regains consciousness, and requires surgery for massive head injuries. Michael gets off relatively easy with back injuries and possible paralysis...but since he knows he was definitely driving over the legal limit, he guilts Matt into using his access to the database to alter his record -- kind of a lot, actually! Alison has managed to conceal her crush on Steve from Billy, though when Jo ices her out in the courtyard, Alison has no compunction telling Jane everything, including that they kissed, cloddishly not considering that maybe Jane, recent cheating victim, isn't going to be on her side with this conundrum. Alison doesn't think her computer, of all things, is going to give her away, but Billy is waiting for her at her desk when she gets a moderately flirty e-mail from Steve. Whoops! And at Shooters, Sydney's new friend Ellen (that's baby Gina Gershon) is eager to introduce Sydney to the kinds of "friends" who might give her the gift of a real Rolex; Sydney is thrilled to hobnob with Hollywood A-listers and totally incurious as to what interest they might have in her barely-legal, just-off-the-turnip-truck vibe! MP S02.E10: The Tangled Web

After clashing with Amanda over Alison's vision for the MICROCOMP campaign (and, apparently, not really comprehending when she tells him that if it flops, Alison's going to be out on her ass), Steve invites his current girlfriend Jo back out to his ranch that weekend -- and hey, wouldn't it be fun if Alison came? And also Billy, since it would be weird if he were excluded? History repeats itself: Billy correctly assesses that Steve is into Alison and risks life and limb -- this time by riding a horse (sort of) out to spy on them; Alison denies that Steve has feelings for her and whines about Billy's jealousy -- after all, she's not jealous about Billy's new co-worker, Celia, who he can't stop complaining about! (Billy shoots back that he hates Celia and since we've certainly never seen crushes grow out of sparky animosity on TV before, that's exactly where their relationship will remain, surely!) Meanwhile, Jo and Steve are getting down to it, apparently for the first time, when Jo admits that she still isn't over Jake, and Steve admits that he's sort of trying to get over someone too. Then Steve and Alison end up alone on the deck.... Speaking of Jake: back in L.A., he's spending more time with Palmer, his boss/Amanda's dad. Getting tipsy tidbits about Amanda's idiosyncrasies from Palmer only tantalizes Jake into asking her more personal questions, which she is not interested in answering. And while she's shutting him down at home, Palmer is shutting down Jake's inquiries at work as regards some wild numbers he accidentally saw on some sale paperwork. And when Michael hears that Kimberly's solution to her problem with Michael is to ditch her job and go home to Cleveland, he begs her not to derail her career and promises to be professional at the hospital. He manages to keep it up for one whole scene, so they're probably fine forever. Join us as we discuss all these sticky situations in our podcast on "The Tangled Web"! MP S02.E09: Married To It

Everything's coming up Sydney! She's got a job! (At Shooters, where else.) She's somehow figured out how to check Kimberly's hospital schedule, so she knows when to go by the beach house and cozy up to Michael! She is, in fact, doing exactly that (because Michael can say he doesn't want to bone her anymore, but confronting her fully naked body in front of him on his deck is a test his resolve cannot pass) when Kimberly comes home and finds them in bed! This touches of a shitstorm: Kimberly tells Jane. Jane disowns Sydney. Kimberly kicks Michael out -- and, when he ignores her, moves out of the beach house herself. Michael tries mooching his way back into Kimberly's heart with a big showy gift of flowers, but when that doesn't work, he takes it out on Jane, embarrassing her at a dinner party with Robert's parents, unintentionally setting Robert up to be Jane's hero some more. Poor Sydney thinks that isolating Michael from his previous two lady friends means he'll have no choice but to pick back up with her by default, but it seems she's miscalculated this game of seven-dimensional chess. The time has come for Matt and Dr. Russia to start selling their story to the INS, which is why it's very bad timing for Matt to meet a cute art dealer who's not totally sure he wants to sign on to Matt's whole complicated situation. And as Jo and Steve continue hanging out -- even as Steve is making it perfectly clear, at least to Alison, that Jo is his second choice -- Alison's terrible poker face keeps giving away her true feelings about him. MP S02.E08: No Bed Of Roses

Alison's running her first solo account with Microcomp! It's a big deal and very exciting, so naturally Billy understands why work is eating up all her time, including weekends. Ha ha, just kidding, he's a petulant baby about -- and maybe he should be, because even though Alison has been very clear with Steve that she's in a relationship, he keeps blurring the lines between them. However, when he decides to start hearing what she's telling him and try to move on, maybe she doesn't really like that either. The Mancinis continue trying to move on from each other, but it's not easy: Jane accepts Robert's invitation to spend the weekend on his friends' sailboat, but when the day comes, a luggage tag with both her and Michael's names on it sends her into a spiral of wistfulness that causes her to renege. Alison suggests that she try dating someone who had NOTHING to do with her divorce, but the D&D guy she sets Jane up with is a dud from whom, fortunately, Robert happens by so that he can rescue her. Meanwhile, Michael is continuing to have "lunch" (sex) with Sydney in her barely furnished crash pad, not realizing exactly what he's getting himself into. Amanda's dad's latest business idea involves producing replica sports cars, which means he needs a head mechanic to run his shop. Naturally, Amanda recommends Jake, who resents what he sees as a handout (and considering that the offer comes with a $15,000 cash advance up front, he's not totally off-base). Sleeping with Amanda helps eliminate some of his qualms, but that doesn't eliminate all the complications of his new situation. Go ahead and take a big whiff of our podcast on "No Bed Of Roses"! MP S02.E07: Flirting With Disaster

Jane is happy in her new relationship with Robert, but not so happy she declines to make good on her threat to Sydney: now that she knows Sydney's continued spending time with Michael behind Jane's back, Jane is kicking her out. Somehow, the same Amanda who asked Matt where he was going to get his next month's rent from four minutes after he got laid off has no problem renting a unit to an unemployed college dropout, as long as she can find someone to co-sign her lease. It all goes to hell at a reception (we'll get to it) where a drunk Michael tries to attack yet another Jane love interest much taller than himself. Sydney follows him home and delights him with the news about her new place and how much it bugs Jane to have her as a neighbor: he'd just love to co-sign that lease! Sydney then takes advantage of Kimberly's trip out of town to drift into the bedroom and start undressing, and Michael is perfectly content to cheat with her on the woman with whom he formerly cheated on his wife. Amanda hands Alison a pile of material on Microcomp, a potential computer hardware client she's pretty sure Alison won't land because no one from any major agency on either coast has. Still, Alison journeys north to meet tech genius Steve McMillan (Parker Stevenson!), crap out as expected after her pitch, and then crash into his fence on her way out when Betsy's brakes fail. Getting the chance to prattle on some more somehow convinces Steve that Alison is the right person to sell computer components to idiots, since she is one, and she lands the account! But is Steve interested in her ideas, or her boobies? Matt tells Dr. Katya that he has changed his mind about her green card scheme: he will marry her after all! The neighbors gather afterward for a reception at a Russian restaurant where the drinks are free; Amanda has a little too much Slivovitz, and this time when Jake walks her home, she is interested in fooling around. Jake knows better than to accept this offer when she's not in a state to give consent, but still, another barrier between them has fallen. But a barrier may soon be erected between Matt and Dr. Katya: Roger Lacey from the INS is checking on their marriage, and he seems suspicious. MP S02.E06: Hot And Bothered

The Mancinis are finalizing their divorce, and everyone is having a lot of feelings about it: Michael, furious about the alimony he has to pay, decides to try to punish Jane by getting all their friends in the divorce, throwing a party to celebrate the end of the marriage, and ignoring both Kimberly's face and words in reaction to this vulgar idea. Jane isn't thrilled about it, but at least she takes advantage of everyone else looking elsewhere to track down her cute attorney and have some revenge sex with him. Billy and Alison clash over the ethics of attending Michael's party, and of course turn it into a referendum on their own relationship. At least that distracts them from trying to parent-trap Jo and Jake into a reunion -- which was always a long shot given that Jake and Jo are being forced to work together on the Sagebrush Beer campaign and hating every second of it. Not hating it? Amanda, because it gives her time to gaze upon Jake and, sometimes, rip his shirt open. Matt and Dr. Katya are still pals at the hospital...briefly, until she tells him her internship is over and she's out of extensions on her visa. Might Matt consider taking her last $1000 and marrying her so she can get her green card? We let you know what comes of this cold, hard cash and so much more in our podcast on "Hot And Bothered"! MP S02.E05: Of Bikes And Men

Jane barely has time to get mad at Sydney for snitching on her and Sam to Michael before it's time for depositions to start in the case of Mancini v. Mancini! Jane is horrified when Michael starts confidently presenting Jane's relationship with Sam as though it started that time Sam kissed her, months ago, and never stopped; Jane's lawyer (Steven Eckholdt!) isn't thrilled to have the news of Sam's existence sprung on him this way. Michael is confident that his masterful lies will carry the day, but since he requires Kimberly to corroborate them, he might be a little too cocky. (Yes -- Michael!) After a good night's sleep, Jo wakes up and decides Jake probably didn't commit insurance fraud. He's still hurt that she ever doubted him at all, but they get past it, and he proceeds to another interview with the insurance adjuster, during which Jake somehow figures out that, actually, he did leave the blowtorch on a little. Stung by his own fuckup, he comes home to tell Jo, who (again) focuses on her lost investment, and Jake LOSES HIS MIND, wrecking the apartment and especially the fridge. Jo kicks him out, telling him the next day it's because she promised herself she'd never live with another violent man, and though she subsequently wishes she could take it back because she doesn't actually think Jake would hit her, Jake is too upset, and it seems as though they really are done for good. Billy (improbably) gets assigned to interview a publicity-shy hotel magnate (no such thing) and asks Alison to come, only telling her as they are parking that he wasn't supposed to bring a guest so she'll have to hide (this is credible, from Billy). Unfortunately, Alison's overreaction to a free stay in a five-star hotel with some minor inconveniences -- like eating dinner with a book instead of with Billy is such a hardship -- make her just as hard to root for as does Billy's gross unprofessionalism. Finally, it's time for Matt's "date" with Dr. Katya. But how will he tell her that his dates generally aren't of the female variety without hurting her feelings?! MP S02.E04: Fire Power

Still in denial about the connection between her drinking and her trauma, Alison is continuing to disappoint Amanda in her new position. Amanda is so disgusted by Alison's numerous screw-ups that she takes a number of Alison's new responsibilities off her plate, whereupon Billy decides it's his job to step in, and -- despite having promised Alison they wouldn't talk about Keith anymore to anyone -- tell Amanda the whole sordid story so that she'll give Alison a break. This is not, in fact, what Alison wants, but the important thing is that it gives Billy and Amanda another pretext to get together and talk about her behind her back! Jake and Jo have not been communicating well enough at the shop, so when he goes on a bike shopping spree and cleans out the bank account, he doesn't realize that money is for paying their tax installment, and he's about to bounce a cheque to the IRS. Then an accident causes a catastrophic fire that turns the store into a total write-off, but because of the state of their books, the insurance company thinks it's suspicious, and so does Jo. Encouraged by said fellow divorcee to take her mind off Michael by going on a no-pressure date, Jane asks Sam of the (then-)extramarital kiss to dinner. Sydney takes this goss straight to Michael, who threatens Sam, who asks Jane what's going on, who still doesn't appreciate the degree to which Sydney is telling Michael her business. Matt settles into his job at the hospital by helping a Russian doctor with her patient, not realizing that she might want to thank him by helping him off with his pants. MP S02.E03: Revenge

When we left Billy last time, he was booking a flight to Seattle, and sure enough, when we rejoin him here, he's...there, with nothing but a return address on a purloined piece of Alison's mail to guide him. He easily breaks into Keith's house to find that he has not exactly been getting revenge on Alison by living well: the place is a barely furnished sty, in which Keith sleeps on a bare mattress in the living room next to so many of Courtney Thorne-Smith's old headshots, which he's had framed. Billy then turns up at the oil refinery where Keith works, to threaten and then punch him. Keith's response? To wait for Billy to leave town, then phone Alison at work so she can hear as he makes an irrevocable decision. Through it all, Alison's been screwing up at work because she's distracted and traumatized; since she refuses to tell Amanda why but is also self-medicating with a lot of vodka, now also during work hours, Amanda can only conclude that Alison's drinking is the cause and not a side effect of what's actually derailing her. (Okay, it's also a cause.) Sydney takes advantage of Jane's self-caring self-involvement to worm her way into Michael's life -- which is actually convenient for him, because he needs a broad to do his laundry now that Jane's out of the picture, and while Kimberly flat-out refuses, Sydney's got nothing but time to pitch in. When she brings Michael his load (heh) and finds Kimberly lying out on the deck, it's pretty clear she doesn't believe either Kimberly OR Michael when they claim Kimberly is just his "associate," and that she's willing to exploit Michael's need for her to keep it quiet to try to get him to fool around with Sydney herself, as well. Though Jo is delighted that Amanda wants her to shoot the Sagebrush Beer campaign on the strength of her shots of Jake from the motorcycle race, she's a lot less thrilled that Amanda also wants to cast Jake himself as the Sagebrush Beer Man, suspecting ulterior motives, of horniness. MP S02.E02: A Long Night’s Journey

Billy and Alison can't wait for Keith to go back to Seattle and leave them to resume their very happy relationship. Alison's just going to go out with him for one last dinner and drive him to the airport, no big deal. Billy has continued to look into stalking and its tendency to be visited by spurned lovers on their former partners, but Alison isn't trying to hear it, right up until she goes to Keith's hotel room and sees that, actually, he's delayed the flight she thought she was there to drive him to; when she declines the dinner he's ordered them instead, he pushes her onto the bed and threatens to sexually assault her. While Jane tries to excise Michael from her life, Michael can't stop scheming to avoid the consequences of his cheating: he asks her to call off her lawyer; he tries to cultivate a laid-off Matt by getting him an interview for a job at the hospital; and he even butters up Sydney -- who's ostensibly come to town to support Jane -- so that he can play Sydney off her sister. As Jake ramps up (get it) his motorcycle racing career, Amanda also revs up her engine for Jake, while Jo watches warily and tries to keep them apart. MP S02.E01: Much Ado About Everything

Rhonda has exited! Offscreen! Uh, bye! So Amanda has moved in (to Rhonda's old unit, which we know was a studio?) and is busily making friends with her female neighbours. Jo seems to enjoy hanging out until it becomes clear that, with Amanda finally moving on from Billy, she has taken notice of Jake -- and just in time for Jake and Jo to have moved in together, too. Why isn't Billy still on Amanda's menu? Well, Alison's stalker has started getting more aggressive. He's even gone after Keith with a tire iron, just like he did Billy! Surprisingly, Billy starts to get suspicious of this report since no one ever told him he was struck by a tire iron (and, of course, we know Keith just hit himself on the corner of his hotel room TV, so how he passed that off as a tire iron injury to anyone who examined him, we are sure we don't know). Billy digs into this new crime, "stalking," and finds out that the people who do it have usually experienced a romantic rejection. But will he be able to convince Alison? Jane is ready to exit her marriage with a minimum of hassle, but Michael the diva can't even agree to a no-fault divorce due to the injury it will cause his pride. After the ladies' squad end up out for dinner at the same restaurant as Michael and Kimberly, however, Jane reconsiders whether she does want to talk to a ruthless divorce lawyer Amanda (who else) knows and try to get a payout in the form of Michael's future earnings. MP S01.E32: Suspicious Minds

Where to begin with this actually pretty plot-filled two-part season finale? Well: the mysterious Mr. K. is selling the complex. Also: let's just say Amanda's pregnancy's not going to be a problem for Billy and Alison anymore. That's not to say that Amanda isn't going to be a problem for them anymore, because she is still very into Billy and openly pursuing him, basically daring Alison to try to compete with her. What Alison doesn't realize is that she has another suitor she could fall back on because, yes, Keith has improbably come back to town. He's all ready to propose to his "girlfriend," as he apparently still thinks Alison is, until he spots her canoodling with Billy and decides to start stalking her instead. Michael continues his campaign to make Jane forgive him, taking her out of town to seduce her...but then comes back to the hospital to let Kimberly know he's still totally down to clown if she is. Jo decides she'd better not try to take any photos of unhomed persons on Skid Row -- in the middle of the day, mind you -- without arming herself with the handgun she totally still has. She then gets pulled over on a routine traffic stop and thinks it's no big deal to shove it out of the way in her purse when she's going for her license and registration, getting arrested on a gun charge, obviously. Jake is so furious that he considers withdrawing his offer to shack up with her, not that she particularly seems to care. And after waiting vainly for Terrance to re-propose, Rhonda realizes that Matt is right and that she should just grow up and propose to him instead. MP S01.E31: State Of Need

Now that they've MADE LOVE, everything is going so great for Billy and Alison -- other than her need to talk their relationship to death, that is. It's just terrible, awful timing that the couple has barely had time to shower each other's stink off when Amanda informs Billy that she's missed her period and, according to a home test, she's pregnant. Instead of waiting for a doctor's confirmation, Billy blurts this news at Alison, who immediately starts spinning out. Billy doesn't have very much more chill, and basically forces a disgusted Amanda to tell him she doesn't expect anything from him, possibly because she doesn't trust his ability to so much as hold a baby without dropping it. Jane having kicked him out, Michael is full of regret and desperate for her to forgive him, even telling Kimberly he wants to break things off with her so that he and Jane can reconcile, and then begging Alison to broker a meeting between him and Jane. Reluctantly, Jane agrees to counseling, and to letting him back into the apartment (though only on the couch), though when he gets beeped to come in on a mass casualty at the hospital, she has to admit she still doesn't trust him AND AS WE KNOW, SHE PROBABLY SHOULDN'T. Jo is still hanging out with Karen the model, who invites Jo and Jake out dancing and hits on them both. Are they hip enough to consider opening up their relationship to a hot bisexual model? MP S01.E30: Carpe Diem

Alison and Billy may have both felt extremely awkward after their first kiss, but after each suffers a night of restless sleep, they agree that what they're mostly feeling now is horny. Billy's attempt at romance -- a jazz concert in the park (never the play, guys) -- is ruined by Alison's ongoing guilt over keeping the secret of Michael's affair from Jane; when Billy suggests that she's using said secret as a pretext to delay sex with Billy, she delays sex with Billy. But she's willing to try another date the following night, which is why it's too bad that Lucy extends to her a last-minute invitation to an executive retreat in Palm Springs, so that she and Amanda can try to work on their relationship outside the office. On her way out of town, she runs into Jane -- returning early from her second-anniversary dinner with Michael, because he contrived to have Kimberly beep him during dessert so he could leave and spend the night fucking her instead -- and finally spills what she knows. Jane doesn't want to believe it, and when she directly confronts Michael, she makes him think she buys his explanation for what Alison thought she saw, but while Michael may have a sociopath's confidence, he may have underestimated Jane's street smarts. Jo has fallen in with a fast crowd of fashion models Jake doesn't approve of -- they SMOKE!!! -- but is he troubled by the way Jo changes her manner when she's around them, or threatened by her career as it's starting to take off? MP S01.E29: Pas de Trois

Since Amanda still hasn't figured out that Billy is not worth the effort she's putting into acquiring him, she's fighting a battle on two fronts: continuing to contact him via phone, and shoehorning him into conversations at work. When both Amanda and Alison are invited to Lucy's engagement party, Alison doesn't consider that she's in a primetime soap and bring Matt as her platonic date, instead bringing Billy along, so when Amanda gets Billy first onto the dance floor and then into a gazebo, where Alison walks up on them kissing, Alison really has no one to blame but herself. All of this is happening at a time when Alison's faith in men's good judgment, sex-wise, is low anyway, since she happens to have just spotted Michael and Kimberly kissing at the hospital. Is it true that, as Billy claims, he's a better-quality dude than Michael? Or when Amanda calls him and leaves a (possibly) tearful message asking him over, will he be able to resist her seductive moves and satin robes? Elsewhere, Jake is once again second-guessing Jo's aptitude for business -- this time, doubting her math on the shop's tax return when it shows him owing more than $8000. MP S01.E28: Pushing Boundaries

Amanda, against all reason, has continued trying to reach out to Billy and, rightly suspecting the reason he's not answering her messages is because Alison isn't giving them to him, forces the issue with a little light stalking. Thus Alison, who's already eating Amanda's shit at work as she tries to regain the stature she enjoyed pre-Seattle, also has to eat shit for interfering in Billy and Amanda's friendship. But Billy has more pressing matters to deal with -- specifically, his boss Nancy pressing herself up against him. Instead of firing Billy after Cameron narcs on him for not having gone to Columbia at all, Nancy gives Billy a "second chance" in the form of a promotion to staff writer, and is so hot for Billy that she comes on to him in a glass-walled conference room where Alison sees the whole thing. Billy doesn't want to believe that his rise is due to his butt, until Nancy makes her intentions impossible to ignore. Speaking of people crossing lines: Kimberly confesses her feelings for Michael, and then flees, thinking nothing can come of them because he's married. Is she correct? (Spoiler: no.) And Matt meets a cute guy at Shooters and they go on a date! Too bad he's an aspiring one-percenter with no personal ethics in his career or, apparently, life. MP S01.E27: The Test

Things are going great for Jake and Jo, which means it's time for his past to come back to haunt them again. Specifically, Jake's ex Perry -- the cocaine user who, when we last saw her, was scamming rich art collectors -- is out of rehab for heroin addiction. She lets Jake know that she now has AIDS, and that as her former partner, he should get tested. Jake resists the notion that a man who only sleeps with women -- even one who doesn't use condoms 100% of the time -- might be at risk for an STI. But eventually he does see reason (thanks to a sensible conversation with Matt), tells Jo what's going on, and arranges for them both to get tested. Alison slinks back to D&D to try to get her job back. Lucy is gracious enough not to remind her that she'd told Alison that the job would be gone as soon as Alison took off for Seattle, but does say that the hiring decision is now Amanda's. Lucy gets Amanda to agree to put Alison in the mix, and gives Alison her old receptionist job back, and Amanda gets straight to work making Alison eat shit. Meanwhile, Billy decides to advance his career by fabricating a résumé (and implicating Alison to be his fraudulent reference from his made-up copywriting job at D&D). He successfully talks his way into an editorial assistant job at a magazine called Escapades, though it seems like the Managing Editor Nancy might be less interested in his old columns from that dead free weekly than she is in Billy's ass. MP S01.E26: End Game

Billy is just starting to get used to the idea of life without Alison -- and even entertaining the idea of renting her old room out to Kimberly, particularly if it means she'll move all her furniture in with her -- when he gets the news that his father has suffered a massive heart attack; alas, Mr. Campbell never regains consciousness, and passes away. Billy, for some reason, decides the best way to honour his father's memory is to start running the furniture store (as he never wanted to do when his father was alive); he also rebuffs attempts by everyone in his life to help him grieve...that is, until Alison comes back from Seattle to comfort him. Meanwhile, Kimberly decides she doesn't want to room with Billy, but that she would like Michael to come over and fix her kitchen sink. That's not a euphemism, though when he's done, she makes it pretty clear that she wouldn't mind him taking a closer look at her plumbing. Elsewhere, Carrie is still trying to make moves on Terrance (via lilac paint and floral-print wallpaper, which seems like the long way around, but okay), and Rhonda's still not happy about it. MP S01.E25: Irreconcilable Similarities

While Billy settles into life with Amanda -- which, since she's doing his laundry and boning him all the time, is pretty easy -- an unsettled Alison makes an impetuous decision: she WILL move to Seattle with Keith. Everyone in Alison's life thinks this is a terrible idea, though everyone is too scared to say so to Alison's face except Lucy, who fought to get Alison her promotion and doesn't appreciate receiving Alison's notice via answering machine message. As Alison tries to talk herself into her big move, Billy starts to notice that he and Amanda actually may not be that compatible after all. (Her impatience with finding his towels on the floor all the time and saying something about it may have something to do with it.) But will Billy's epiphany coincide with one from Alison? Michael and Jane's old college friend Sam (Rob Estes!) comes to town, but can only meet for dinner on a night when Michael's on call. When Jane sees him alone, Sam kisses her, which she quickly ends. She decides not to tell Michael the rage fiend, but Sam doesn't think to check with her before going to the hospital to apologize to Michael and touching off his latest temper tantrum. MP S01.E24: Bye Bye Billy

Billy blows off a play with Alison to have dinner with Amanda and her father on such short notice that Alison can't find anyone else to take the ticket, and since Betsy's in the shop again, Keith lends her his vintage Mustang. Walking alone to a desirable car naturally ends with Alison getting robbed at gunpoint. Billy is full of self-recrimination for not having been there for Alison after her terrifying experience; Amanda would probably be irritated by his preoccupation even if her father hadn't just told her that Billy isn't the right man for her. While Alison continues having flashbacks to the robbery, Keith is there, and before long has toppled all the boundaries Alison had set up. Jo thinks Alison doesn't need the presence of a man to make her feel safe so much as she needs a handgun -- like the one Jo herself acquired after Charles came to town -- but Alison is grossed out by her visit to the gun range, and Jake is also disturbed to learn that he's unknowingly been sleeping in the same dwelling as an unsecured firearm. Billy's attempts to mend his relationship with Alison are unsuccessful, pushing him toward Amanda in a way Alison apparently did not anticipate. Meanwhile, far in the background, Terrence deputizes Rhonda to project-manage the decorator he's just hired, not knowing that Rhonda and said decorator have a history. MP S01.E23: My New Partner

Since Billy and Amanda are refusing to ignore their own happiness and quit dating so that Alison won't be uncomfortable around them, Alison is challenged to search her feelings about the matter and determine the real reason it bugs her so much that Billy is seeing Amanda. When Alison requests a formal meeting to discuss their relationship and then gets a dozen red roses at work with an unsigned card from an admirer who wants to meet her at Shooters, of course she assumes that it's Billy, finally ready to make a big declaration. But no! It's Keith. Now that he's fully divorced (or...so he says) (again), he's ready to pick back up where he and Alison left off, but is also content to start at the beginning again to rebuild trust. At least he's not going to have to do much double dating with Billy and Amanda, since they both can't stand him, and would rather spend time alone at Amanda's bachelorette pad anyway. Jake is so happy with the current state of his life that he forgets he's a character on a TV show and says so out loud, triggering his boss to lay him off ahead of a bank foreclosure of the whole shop. But there may be a way out: a five-figure divorce settlement Jo wants to invest in Jake starting the shop up again under his own management. Will Jake be able to quit pouting about being a "charity case" long enough to let Jo help him make his dream come true? We discuss it all in our podcast on "My New Partner"! MP S01.E22: Three’s A Crowd

Amanda asks Alison to join her for a weekend away at her parents' vacation home, which in our day would be the prelude to Alison's sexual awakening as at least a bisexual (particularly given that the sleeping arrangements require Amanda and Alison to share a bed), but in ours has to be followed by Alison getting stupid Billy invited along, too. Of course, Alison regrets it almost immediately: Amanda and Billy are obviously attracted to each other, and as soon as Alison has turned in for the night, Billy kisses Amanda, who enthusiastically reciprocates. Without knowing for sure that this has occurred, Alison can't ignore their flirting, and forbids Billy from pursuing Amanda for the sake of Alison and Amanda's working relationship -- something Billy then reports to Amanda in the course of ignoring Alison's request. Amanda, however, insist that they remain transparent, and tells Amanda about their relationship, certain that they can all be adults about it, because Amanda doesn't know how often Alison -- a woman in her mid-twenties -- still communicates anger by deploying the silent treatment. Elsewhere, Jo and Jake finally get around to doing sex, and as Rhonda and Terrence continue suffering apart, it somehow falls to poor Matt to broker a reunion. MP S01.E21: Picture Imperfect

When one of Alison's never-seen co-workers gets bounced for dating a client (and losing the agency the business when the relationship went sour), Alison gets a promotion to assistant account executive! She's going to be working with an art director named Amanda Woodward on Maximum Advantage, a men's underwear brand. None of the agency's usual photographers is available, so Alison takes a flyer on Jo, who decides to go in a bold direction with her artistic concept and hang out with the tennis-star model afterward -- at Shooters, so why she is then astonished to piss off Jake in the process is a real mystery because obviously he is also there. Billy agrees to let Michael fix him up on a blind date with Lydia, a nurse at the hospital. He's not into her, and she's not into him either, but they're both so WASPy that somehow they end up on a crappy second date together. And Rhonda is, once again, doubting that she's ready to commit to Terrence -- but this time, she might not let Matt talk her out of fleeing. We discuss it all in our podcast on "Picture Imperfect"! MP S01.E20: Peanut Butter And Jealousy

Jake finally tells Jo that he ran into Charles, her ex, and while he think he's solved her problems by telling him that Jo doesn't live at Melrose Place, Jo knows better, and goes to see him. Charles is proud to show her that he's not drinking anymore, and is generally on his best behaviour, apologizing for not having taken her photography seriously, and for trying to turn her into a good little socialite wife. Jake bristles while following everyone's advice -- including Jo's -- that he keep his distance while Jo and Charles sort things out, which gets even harder when it seems like Charles is starting to win Jo back over. Sydney is still up Jane's ass at work, at home, and even with her friends. When a desperate Michael accepts Sydney's help in planning Jane's surprise birthday party, Sydney soon gives him cause to regret it. Meanwhile, when Rhonda's not in conference with Jane about the gown she's going to need for her wedding in three weeks (what?), she's trying to figure out why Matt seems so pissy about her and Terrence. As negotiated in the last episode, Alison takes Billy to the ball, and they have a good time until he tries to put his cheek against hers on the dance floor and she acts like he jammed his arm down her dress. He, in turn, gets wounded when she ditches him to go to an after-party with her office crush. Cue yet another fascinating discussion about the boundaries of their relationship, sigh. MP S01.E19: Single White Sister

Jane thinks nothing of it when she's awakened by a phone call from her sister Sydney, who's come to L.A. without letting anybody know. She just needed a break from college -- no big deal! But it doesn't take long for Sydney's story to crumble: actually, she was getting terrible grades in all her classes, so she dropped out. What's she going to do with her life instead? Maybe squat on Jane and Michael's fold-out couch and loiter around the Kay Beacon Design Studio making Jane crazy. Jake thinks he's come up with a great surprise for Jo: since he's getting a great deal on a new Harley, he's going to let her have his old one...on very favorable terms? (This guy could possibly stand to take another run at the definition of the word "gift" in the dictionary.) Jo turns him down, and Jake is so preoccupied by his own wounded pride that he can't see what's bothering her: it appears as though the husband she fled has managed to track her down. Alison is granted an invitation to a work-related formal event and needs a date. Billy is all ready to set her up with his friend Tom until it seems like Tom and Alison might actually like each other. Terrence continues drawing Rhonda into his fancy life -- now including his fancy friends -- but when their first dinner party goes badly, Rhonda becomes convinced that he's not actually interested in a woman who sleeps in t-shirts and teaches Cardio Funk. MP S01.E18: A Melrose Place Christmas

It's Christmas! But for a lot of people, that can be awkward! Like, for instance, for Matt, who has decided to cook a traditional Christmas dinner for the orphans at the complex instead of spending the holidays with his parents, since he's still hurt about the way they responded when he told them about losing his job for being gay. It's also not great for Michael, who feels extra-guilty about failing to save the life of a little boy accidentally shot at a playground because it happened on Christmas Eve, and now the boy's mother will spend every holiday mourning her son. Jane's not around to comfort him (she's at her parents' in Chicago, where...apparently they don't have phones?), so Michael has to get his emotional needs met by the next nearest woman: good old Dr. Kimberly Shaw, his colleague and completely platonic friend. Jake wants to blow out his Christmas celebration to make up for all the ones his mother was too poor or drunk to give him when he was a child, but Jo lacks festive spirit. Will her bitterness about her former in-laws' boozy Christmases spoil Jake's holiday? Alison has her surgery and returns home to be nursed by Billy. However, even though they are one another's BEST FRIENDS (ya heard?), he's not sure whether it's weird for him to get her a necklace for Christmas and she's not sure whether it's okay for her to need him so much when their relationship is, still, officially only platonic. MP S01.E17: Jake vs. Jake

Alison hasn't been feeling quite right lately, lady parts-wise: turns out she has a benign fibroid tumor, which will require surgery. This is inconvenient because despite the fact that she works full-time at D&D, she doesn't have health insurance. Billy leaps into action, certain that any hospital administrator who looks her in the eye won't be able to deny her care; unfortunately, they live in the United States of America, so he is mistaken. Can Billy get over his brand-new awareness of the issues with this country's for-profit health care system long enough to let Michael, who works within it, try to help Billy's BEST FRIEND? Jake's "one who got away," Colleen, comes back to town. He apparently thinks she might want to start something up again, but no: she informs him that her son David is also Jake's biological progeny, but she'd like him to sign away his parental rights so that her husband can adopt David. Jake flips out and starts making irrational plans. (Bro, you think you're going to sue for full custody? You aren't.) Rhonda has a meet-cute over a flat of strawberries with a guy named Terrence, who immediately starts romancing her in a serious way. Could he be planning to whisk her off into a life of luxury? And if so, will it actually take...holy moly, ten episodes?! Seems slow. We discuss all matters "Jake vs. Jake" in our latest podcast! BH S10.E26: The Penultimate & Ode To Joy

Kelly returns from Matt's brother's funeral to the shocking news that David has proposed marriage to Donna, and that Donna's not sure what to do. Don't worry: her reticence is short-lived, and the couple forges ahead with a wedding that may just be the one Kelly's been planning since it all comes together in a matter of days. Why isn't Kelly using it? Well, now that Matt's biological child is about to grow up without a father, Matt thinks he should step in to perform this function, which provides Kelly with a good reason to let him go. Will Matt agree to withdraw from their engagement without a fight? Janet's career continues to rise as Charles names her the new Editor-in-Chief of Nouveau, though she's not so sure she wants the job. And Noah and Ellen have their 500th discussion about where their relationship is going, right before Noah leaves us forever. MP S01.E16: The Whole Truth

All the Melrose Place dudes who aren't currently involved in legal proceedings are still verrrrrrry interested in Jo. Michael wants to know why she's changing her lock if it wasn't broken, and when she's going to get around to giving him, her building manager, a copy of the new one. Billy's trying to conceal from Alison the fact that he's dropping by with impromptu unchilled Champagne. But Jake is the most curious of all. Why would Jo claim to be going on a job interview only to hit up a jewellery store instead? Why doesn't she have any photo ID to facilitate the sale of a diamond bracelet engraved with the name 'Beth'? And who is this Beth, anyway? (Billy, meanwhile, gives up his attempts to hit on Jo, and when he gets very high on painkillers following a dental procedure, his subconscious serves up a dream about the woman he'd actually like to nurse him back to health.) Jane finds out the store where she works has been sold to Kay Beacon, a designer whose work she knows, and talks her way into a job at Kay's studio. But is it worth signing on with an ascendant brand when Kay is an extremely abrasive manager, and pursuing the opportunity will keep Jane from getting pregnant again right away like she and Michael agreed they were going to try to do? Judith Hoag, Esq. presents Matt with a settlement offer from the halfway house, but he must decide whether it's more important for him to resume the work he loves, or push for more damages to really make his point. BH S10.E25: I’m Happy For You…Really

After Dylan's declaration of love (or codependence, or obsession, or whatever) in the last episode, Kelly is trying to pretend nothing is wrong even as he openly gives her the silent treatment. To prove she doesn't take it seriously, she even tells Matt about it, which somehow isn't much comfort to him. They're on their way to yet another wedding-related appointment when she hears a news report on the radio about a surfer getting killed at Point Dume -- the very beach where Donna had told her Dylan was going to surf that day! Kelly desperately tries to determine whether the surfer is Dylan, and the utterly whipped Matt drives her all over the county to yell at various functionaries until Dylan himself calls; he decided to ride the rails (yes, like a hobo) to Salinas instead. Thinking Dylan was dead brings Kelly's feelings for him into focus, and it seems like she may have actually made a decision when Matt comes home to tell her something so shocking that anything she may have to say will have to wait. Speaking of reunions: David and Donna. Their shmoopiness is witnessed by a pissy Noah, but his pouting is nothing compared to Camille's reaction when she comes back to town. David has to deal with Camille's emotional outbursts, in the process convincing Donna that he doesn't actually want to date her, and sees her as more of a sister now. Steve and Janet are still trying out what their life will be like if they accept Charles's offer to buy the Beat (which, given all the personnel he's installed in the office, doesn't seem like it's a trial for anyone other than Janet and Steve). But then Steve decides he doesn't want to sell...and Janet says she wants to take Charles's offer to edit a new magazine he's starting. Impasse! Noah and Ellen are also still present, and we still don't know why. Hear us discuss it all in our podcast on "I'm Happy For You...Really"! MP S01.E15: House Of God

When Michael volunteers Jane to the decorating committee for an upcoming mixer for the hospital interns, she's relieved to meet and make friends with fellow doctor's wife Liz. And what do you know -- Michael is also getting pally with Liz's husband Scott, a star pediatrician. Jane finds nothing amiss in the elaborate story Liz offers for how she got a shiner on her right eye, but is less able to explain away finger-shaped bruises on both of Liz's arms. Michael, however, refuses to entertain the idea that his new buddy is a domestic abuser, particularly since Michael is less popular than he is and unwilling to slow his own ascent at the hospital by making accusations he thinks are unfounded. The complex gets a new resident -- Jo Reynolds, an aspiring photographer who's just arrived from New York. While she's slightly vague about what has brought her to town, depending on who asks, Jo and Alison bond over a temperamental dryer in the laundry room, and Jo and Jake have an instant attraction, even before he shows up at her door in nothing but a towel. BH S10.E24: Love Is Blind

Matt is excited about a job opportunity in Seattle and Kelly is trying to be excited for him, and for the possibility of moving there with him if he gets it, but of course she's still mostly focused on Dylan, particularly after he gives Matt and Kelly their wedding gift a bit early: plane tickets for a trip around the world. Kelly is disgusted that he's trying this gambit again, and refuses to accept them, but that's not enough for Matt: even though he totally did not get the job (because, duh, of course he didn't, he almost got permanently disbarred THIS SEASON), he still thinks they should move away -- and if Kelly doesn't agree to do it, he's going to assume it's because she's still in love with Dylan. An apparently successful publishing mogul improbably wants to buy the Beat, but if the deal goes through, it will mean Janet remains to run the publication for a year while Steve is relieved of...whatever his duties currently are. Will Janet like being the family's sole breadwinner while Steve becomes a full-time parent? Let's see how they feel after a trial run! Cue the "jokes" about aprons and castration! David and Donna are now fully single, and actually manage to tell each other that their recent romantic misfires have been due to their resurgent feelings for each other. But Donna, despite all the episodes of yearning we've had to endure, doesn't want to risk her friendship with David -- particularly not when she needs to lean on him because Felice wants to sell the Martin Manse. And Noah and Ellen continue pretty much just treading narrative water; introducing Noah to Ellen's mother and daughter doesn't really move anything anywhere. MP S01.E14: Drawing The Line

Alison is so sure Keith is the right man for her -- that a love she never dared to hope for is actually real -- that she's fighting with her friends and neighbors about the advisability of being with him. Her defiance starts to crumble, however, when he admits that Lily, his wife, has come to town from San Diego to implore him not to end their marriage; when Alison sneaks a look at his wallet and sees a photo of Keith and Lily in happier days (and in leis), her resolve to stay with him grows weaker still. But will Keith's magic penis overcome her doubts again? Matt finds a lawyer willing to take his wrongful-termination case, but struggles to come up with the $5000 retainer she requires. No one he knows has that kind of money except his pretty homophobic dad, who might prefer that Matt just endure whatever indignities come with the "lifestyle" Matt has "chosen." Rhonda finds someone to rent Sandy's old room -- Carrie, played by Rae Dawn Chong! -- only to discover that sharing a household with a professional organizer involves a lot more fights about cookware cleanliness than she probably ever had with Carrie's predecessor. BH S10.E23: And Don’t Forget To Give Me Back My Black T-Shirt

Apparently what everyone was toasting in the last episode was Donna agreeing to let Dylan pay Mitch to build her an online store, because now it's actually getting close to launching, and everyone is mad about it. Janet's mad that Steve went behind her back to invest $10,000 from an inheritance she didn't know he had, and worried about what it means for their relationship that he's hiding money from her. David is mad that, when a model flakes on the website photo shoot, Camille agrees to model the clothes herself and...looks hot in them? And Donna is mad that, when she dumps Mitch for being too clingy, he holds the website hostage until she agrees to go out with him again. Meanwhile, the plots involving series latecomers continue spinning their wheels: Matt is still determined to lie to Kelly about his desert cheating, and Noah is still pushing Ellen into embracing sobriety rather than let her figure it out at her own pace. However, once she has more than one day, she risks changing their relationship by telling him about the biggest mistake of her life. MP S01.E13: Dreams Come True

Having decided at the end of the last episode that she is fine fooling around with a married man, Alison figures there's no reason she shouldn't let her friends, neighbors, and boss all about Keith's situation, and is unpleasantly surprised when they don't all agree with her that he's great and so is their relationship. Affected by their judgment, she decides to ask Keith exactly what it means when he says his marriage is "dead," and isn't comforted when (a) he doesn't really have an answer, and (b) the other person in that dead marriage phones in the middle of their argument. Alison has a lot to think about!!! Getting gay-bashed after bigots catch him in an extremely chaste hug is only the start of Matt's ordeal: the uniformed cops at the hospital are brusque; the detective from the hate crimes unit makes him tell the whole story again; and when his boss hears what makes Matt's assault a hate crime, he suddenly questions Matt's therapeutic practices and whether Matt is the right fit for his job. And a chance encounter with a soap opera casting director changes Sandy's life -- and the complex -- forever. Don't miss our discussion of "Dreams Come True"! BH S10.E22: The Easter Bunny

Donna is saving tons of money on sales tax by buying fabric and other materials online, but has she ever thought about opening her own website to sell her designs online?! She's hesitant about the financial outlay not just to promote the store with banners on search engines, but also to...actually manufacture and stock the items they'd be trying to sell. Camille brightly says that's why Donna shouldn't even consider spending her own money on any of this stuff, and instead should solicit seed money! It's a hard no from Donna, which is of course why Camille ignores her and goes straight to Dylan to pitch him on investing in the venture. Donna lets Dylan talk her into pitching her that night, and she does come around (not just to the idea of a website, but also to dating David's designer friend, Mitch). Meanwhile, David picks a fight with Camille about having gone behind Donna's back, but is that even what he's actually mad about? Speaking of mad, Kelly notices that Matt's been in a crabby mood ever since he got back from that dirt-biking trip with Dylan. When he claims he's just stressed about work, she wakes up Dylan in the middle of the night to ask him whether anything happened that she should know about. Dylan doesn't narc on Matt, but does tell Matt about the visit and Kelly's suspicions. Matt decides to come clean, but when Kelly has one too many questions about the first part of his confession -- that he drank acid-spiked punch -- he gets way too defensive and decides not to tell her the rest. Will he be able to stop wearing his guilt on his face and get on board with planning the wedding they should definitely still have? Elsewhere, Noah's attempts to "help" Ellen into a new sober life look a lot like trying to control her, and Steve and Janet's latest "comedy" plot revolves around a neighbor child's dead pet -- yes, really. MP S01.E12: Polluted Affairs

A chance encounter with Keith, a guy tabling on Melrose about marine ecology, leads Alison to an environmental lecture...then drinks.....then dinner.........and then some pretty polished seduction for someone who says he just got out of a very long-term relationship and has probably slept with fewer people than Alison has. Billy suspects Keith is too good to be true, but could Billy possibly be right? He's certainly wrong about personal finance, as we learn when he investigates his many failed credit card applications and finds out he has bad credit. But what could a recent college graduate who, until recently, lived with his parents have possibly done to make himself such a bad risk? Prepare to learn all about what passed for "crippling student debt" back in 1992. Jane decides it's time for her to lose the last five pounds she put on during her pregnancy, because surely that will remedy whatever lingering feelings of dissatisfaction or vague sadness are continuing to plague her -- you know, about the fit of her jeans, and nothing else. BH S10.E21: Spring Fever

Lonely Donna is increasingly frustrated by how much sex everyone around her is having: not only must she listen to Kelly's sex squeals, but when she tries to drown them out with the radio, she hears Camille calling in to David's dumb radio show to tell him all about her fantasy about having sex in public. She thinks she's successfully box-blocked her by loading her up with after-hours work at the store, only to come back in later and discover that the public sex location these two boobs have chosen is her store. Donna is more upset than ever to have David's relationship with someone other than her shoved in her face; Camille points out to David that the reason Donna's having such an outsized reaction to this is that Donna herself is into David. Will either David OR Donna accept reality and stop this pantsing around (as it were)? Speaking of Donna's exes: Noah shocks us all not only by going to an AA meeting but remembering a lot of information about Ellen, one of his fellow Friends Of Bill W., keeping her from drinking at the club and distracting her from her lonely apartment by driving her to the beach. A meeting with accomplished businesswoman Donna (...okay) causes Ellen to break her sobriety in shame, but Noah is determined to help her get back on track. Kelly's new PR client is a sausage king with a lot of promotional ideas that end up implicating various members of the Sanders family in ways adorable and not. And when Dylan and Matt go on a dirt-biking getaway together (.......okay), Matt drinks a little too much of the "desert juice" he doesn't realize also contains LSD and returns home with dark secrets Dylan promises not to share. MP S01.E11: A Promise Broken

Can it possibly be time again for another roommate spat between Alison and Billy? Already?! It is. This time, Alison gets snippy about Billy violating her privacy, and given that she catches him capering around the laundry room modeling one of her bras for Jake (and...not in a sexy way), we kind of have to take her side. But Billy is convinced that there's something more under her rage beyond the obvious. The Mancinis are getting ready for Jane's first ultrasound, but Michael's mean doctor boss won't take him off the roster for a surgery that conflicts with her appointment, leaving Jane alone when her OB/GYN gives her some terrible news. Afterward, no one can get Michael to talk about his feelings -- not Jane, but not even Michael's best platonic pal at the hospital, a certain Dr. Shaw. HMMMMM. BH S10.E20: Ever Heard The One About The Exploding Father?

Dylan doesn't kick Jack out of the hotel before finding out that he's there because Kelly got in touch with him; he's in Los Angeles to try to see what kind of relationship he and Dylan can have. Dylan's still pouty, and resists, but can't really stay that angry, which leads Jack to hatch a brilliant plan: what if Dylan entered Witness Protection with "Eddie"? Or, better yet, what if Jack left the program, hired a full-time private security team, and tried his luck with the various underworld reasons whose desire to kill him are the reason he went into the program in the first place? MUCH TO CONSIDER. David has, very improbably, been recruited for a radio job in New York. Camille is pretty sure their month-long relationship won't survive the distance, and Donna isn't ready to say goodbye to her very platonic friend and nothing more. Ryan's still trifling around Los Angeles, but with Noah's help he hatches a new plan for the rest of his life: he's going to become a bar back! It falls to Steve to try to browbeat him to get his life back on track because they still couldn't afford both Josh Taylor AND Jed Allan, apparently.
