49: Greatest Hits: Intermittent Fasting Truths w/ Cynthia Thurlow

bonus

It’s not uncommon to feel powerless over your health. This might be because modern lifestyles often drive our eating habits. Today’s guest took control of her health by changing her eating patterns with intermittent fasting. Cynthia Thurlow is a globally recognized expert in nutrition and intermittent fasting. She is a highly sought after speaker and CEO and founder of Everyday Wellness Project. Cynthia has been a nurse practitioner for over 20 years. Her TED Talk on intermittent fasting has been viewed nearly 6 million times. She has been featured on ABC, FOX5, KTLA, CW, and in Medium and Entrepreneur. She's also the host of the Everyday Wellness podcast, which was listed as "20 Podcasts That Will Help You Grow in 2020" by Entrepreneur magazine. Cynthia was skeptical of intermittent fasting at first. But the more she learned about this healthy eating pattern, the more she realized its power to optimize your health. Modern lifestyles have drastically changed the way we eat. However, for the great majority of human history, intermittent fasting was how we got nutrition. Returning to this process is a return to fueling our bodies the way they were meant to be. Properly combining intermittent fasting with exercise is a powerful and safe weight-loss strategy. Cynthia explains how exercising on an empty stomach not only leads to weight loss but more energy and mental clarity as well. It also promotes autophagy, the body’s process of cleaning out damaged cells. This leads to healthier cellular health and many other benefits. Overall, the strategy of intermittent fasting is about taking control. It’s going to look different for everyone. While this may seem like a big change, it can still fit your schedule, diet, and lifestyle. Have you tried intermittent fasting? Tell me about it in the comments on the episode page! My Your Longevity Blueprint course is currently 50% off to celebrate the launch of the podcast PLUS I'm throwing in a free personalized consultation! S1 Ep 3628: Life Advice from a 96-Year-Old Grandpa George Mellor

Have you ever wondered what centenarians do differently? I’m delighted to invite my own 96-year-old Grandpa on the show to talk about how his lifestyle directly impacted his longevity. The Keys to Longevity Farm-Fresh Food and Home Cooked Meals Relaxing and Rejuvenating Resilience Community Drinking Plenty of Water Faith About Grandpa George Mellor George Mellor is my very own Grandpa! He was a farmer who’s, so far, lived to be 96 years old. His farm was the first in his region to implement irrigation. Food Differences in the Last 100 Years Recording this episode with my Grandpa is by far one of my favorite moments with this podcast. George Mellor brings a wealth of insight and experience from his 96 years on this planet. Especially, but not limited to, what he believes contributes to his good health and longevity. George shares with us how food production differs now from when he grew up. He explains how there wasn’t any access to fresh meat over the summers, so he and his family relied on no meat or, sometimes, canned meat. Being a farmer was a demanding lifestyle, but George ensured he made time for rest and rejuvenation. Some of his favorite ways to replenish himself were fishing and hunting - getting deeply comfortable with nature. Community and Faith Matters One of the other biggest contributing factors George attributes his longevity to is community. Just like the importance of community in places like Italy, which has the largest population of centenarians, even at home in the United States, we need more emphasis on the people and society surrounding us. Other aspects that George counts as major keys of his longevity: drinking plenty of water, staying resilient through everything, and having a strong faith. Finally, George lets us in on his best breakfast secrets: bacon and eggs as often as possible, and heart-health, wallet-friendly oatmeal. What are some of your favorite breakfast foods? How do you rely on your community? What’s your best memory with your grandpa? Let me know in the comments on the episode page. In This Episode What a farm-life diet looked like in the early 1900s [2:30] Some of the best ways to relax and rejuvenate [10:45] Why community is so important for your longevity [17:15] Some of the best breakfasts foods for longevity and long-term health [21:15] What the keys to longevity are [24:00] Links & Resources Use code MAGNESIUM for a discount on my Magnesium Chelate Supplement Find Your Longevity Blueprint Online Follow Your Longevity Blueprint on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | LinkedIn Get your copy of the Your Longevity Blueprint book and claim your bonuses here Find Dr. Stephanie Gray and Your Longevity Blueprint online Follow Dr. Stephanie Gray on Facebook | Instagram | Youtube | Twitter | LinkedIn Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic Podcast Production by the team at Counterweight Creative Related Episodes Episode 15: Community And Curiosity For Longevity With Dr. Sandra Scheinbaum Episode 35: Happiness: The Missing Ingredient In Health With Margie Bissinger Episode 27: Top 20 Longevity Tips From 2020
