If 90% of the population struggles with anxiety, what are we missing in our approach to understanding and treating it? SUMMER BREAK 2022: Jason Wilson on Emotional Incarceration and How Men Win the War Within
Our guest today, Jason Wilson, is a prolific coach to many men, young and old, across the nation. He says, "Strength depends on the physical ability of the body, but power is based on the spiritual rule over the body." For decades, Jason Wilson was losing the war within—the internal battle that many men wage daily but were never taught how to win. As a result, he could not combat his toxic thoughts and emotions. Instead, he was conquered by them and communicated without composure—hurting those he loved and himself. This went on until he renewed his mind by releasing years of past trauma. His life and relationships were transformed when he learned how to master his emotions and express them with self-control. In the process, Jason became a better husband, father, and leader. And today, you'll hear from Jason and learn how to do the same. If you enjoy this episode with Jason, I'm sure you'll also enjoy: 255: Triggered and Insecure? It's the Thing Beneath the Thing. (feat. SUMMER BREAK 2022: Why the Relentless Pursuit of Pleasure Leads to Pain, Narcissism, and Dopamine Addiction (feat. Dr. Anna Lembke)
This week, we're revisiting a riveting conversation I had with Dr. Anna Lembke, Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. We're living in a time of unprecedented access to high-reward, high-dopamine stimuli: drugs, food, news, gambling, shopping, gaming, texting, and social media. Dr. Lembke says that "the increased numbers, variety, and potency is staggering. The smartphone is the modern-day hypodermic needle, delivering digital dopamine 24/7 for a wired generation. As such we've all become vulnerable to compulsive overconsumption." So today, Dr. Lembke is going to explain why the relentless pursuit of pleasure leads to pain…and what to do about it. If you enjoy this episode with Dr. Lembke, I'm sure you'll also enjoy: 257: Burnout, Managing Energy, and How to Live at Your Best (feat. SUMMER BREAK 2022: Core Issues of the Soul, a Fresh Perspective on Grief and Loss, and The Soul of Desire (feat. Curt Thompson, M.D.)
This week, we're revisiting a conversation with my good friend, psychiatrist, and author, Dr. Curt Thompson. About today's conversation, Curt said, "Most of our well-intended attempts to counter the storms of our inner and outer lives involve identifying our problems and devising solutions for them. But in our hurry to diagnose and treat our diseases of the soul, we are often outrun by the very fear that is driving us to identify and resolve them." This is perhaps one of the most emotional episodes I've ever recorded, but there's a holistic approach to understanding shame, loss, trauma, and our souls' deepest desire that I trust will bring a fresh perspective and hope to you today, so buckle-up. Ep 292292: Working from Rest, Breaking the Deficit Mindset, and What Real Balance Is (feat. Touré Roberts)

Ep 291291: The Fight for Rest and Why Struggle is Necessary for Growth (feat. Ben Stuart)
According to today's guest, Ben Stuart, the pastor of Passion City Church in Washington D.C., a lot of us underestimate the complexity of what's happening beneath the surface in our soul and spirit and then never find peace and victory that's sustainable. For Ben, this struggle, this fight, was true when he had to lay face down and lived sick each day because of the side effects of the medications after major back surgery. And it took a toll on his emotional health. You'll hear more about that and more in today's conversation with Ben Stuart.
