Friend of the show and now 4 time guest Jeremiah Sirles joins us to preview the Nebraska v Iowa Thanksgiving day matchup. Sirles played at Nebraska from 2009-2013 as an Offensive lineman, and eventually ascended to the NFL where he spent time with the Chargers, Vikings, Panthers, and Bills. The Hawks kicked off their season inside Kinnick this past weekend with a very lackluster 7-3 victory over the jackrabbits. Sadly, an entire off season of waiting and hoping that the Hawkeye offense would be better looks to be a lost cause. Issues are still there, and potentially worse, spanning almost every offensive position group, and the problems are being exacerbated by a not fully healthy roster. Spencer Petras, one of the hot topic items for the last 3 years, appears to be much of the same, isn't getting help, and is leaving fans wanting basically anything else. Brandon is from Larchwood, Iowa and played high school football for the West Lyon Wildcats. After walking on for the University of Iowa, Brandon quickly ascended special teams depth charts and became a vital component of the special teams in our 2015 undefeated regular season. He would eventually be named starting Safety in 2016 and start all 13 games that season, collecting 85 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 3 forced fumbles. After tearing his ACL in the Spring of 2017, he made an almost magical return to the field in under 6 months, in a game that many will remember his Pick-6 against Illinois. Unfortunately the knee was already reinjured at that point in the game, something that we dive into during our conversation, and his season would end. He transferred to SDSU for his final season of eligibility and finished his career with the Jackrabbits. Week Zero, whatever that means, has come and gone and that means college football teams across the country have started their quest for glory in 2022. 2 of those teams, Nebraska and Northwestern, have been waiting all off season to rectify poor campaigns from the 2021 seasons. Scott is an Actor, Writer, Producer, and he's doing it all in the state of Iowa. His first big break, and what many today would recognize him for, was the viral 'Iowa Nice' video that he debuted a decade ago in 2012. That video was made to highlight the our state and some of the great things and people that Iowa has produced. Similarly with this new project, Scott sought out to deep dive, like never before, one of Iowa's true historical hero's, Iowa Football Player, and Heisman Winner, Nile Kinnick. Scott walks us through the motivation behind this upcoming Documentary, how his team went about gathering all the necessary, and in many instances newly found, information about Nile and his life, and helps us understand how truly great of a human Nile was. Bill was born in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1969. His Father played football for the Hawks, eventually earning his degree and moving on to Seton Hall Law. Bill followed in his dads footsteps as he didn't quite have a plan until after college. We talk about what those year were like, how Bill felt he was wasting his potential and never really giving a full effort, and how all of that eventually drove the change to chase big dreams. After earning his own degree is electrical engineering he moved to New York, got into oil trading, energy markets, and eventually started his own hedge fund. A belief in himself that he was capable of stepping up to the plate and hitting home runs with his work ethic allowed him to do the required jobs that would provide him the lifestyle he wanted to live. The boys are on a short Summer break to recharge before we LOCK IN for a big upcoming season of college football. While we are away, many newer listeners have caught up on the growing back log of episodes, so we are throwing it back to one of the milestones, Episode 100 with Chad Greenway. Chad is a well known Iowa Football legend. He would make many people's Hawkeye Football Mt. Rushmore and is one of the greatest Linebackers in history to wear the black and gold. After being a crucial part of the 3 year domination period of Hawkeye football in 02' to 04' he was drafted in the first round by the Minnesota Vikings where he spent his entire NFL career. A perfect story if there ever was one. Chad talks about all of this and more including his recruitment story, Reese Morgan, stories from high school and Iowa city, and how being a Hawkeye shaped him into the man he is today post football life. Chad now lives in Minnesota with his wife and 4 daughters(future Olympians) and is an entrepreneur. His most recent venture is having a hand in a vodka company, Grey Duck Vodka.
