The streak comes to an end, as the Cyclones win the CyHawk game 10-7 on a day that saw much of the same out of Iowa's anemic offense. We open this 2 man show with discussion of Drake's involvement moving forward, and then dive into the game. Kevin was not in attendance and we discuss if that was actually better in hindsight not having to see the Hawks lose. We update the Ward's Winners picks from last week, We discuss how it is possible that Iowa sits firmly in dead last in the country in Offense, break down some key points of the game including the big special teams plays by the Hawks that kept them in it, but also the 99 yard drive by Iowa State. The Hawks kicked off their season inside Kinnick this past weekend with a very lackluster 7-3 victory over the jackrabbits. Sadly, an entire off season of waiting and hoping that the Hawkeye offense would be better looks to be a lost cause. Issues are still there, and potentially worse, spanning almost every offensive position group, and the problems are being exacerbated by a not fully healthy roster. Spencer Petras, one of the hot topic items for the last 3 years, appears to be much of the same, isn't getting help, and is leaving fans wanting basically anything else. Brandon is from Larchwood, Iowa and played high school football for the West Lyon Wildcats. After walking on for the University of Iowa, Brandon quickly ascended special teams depth charts and became a vital component of the special teams in our 2015 undefeated regular season. He would eventually be named starting Safety in 2016 and start all 13 games that season, collecting 85 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 3 forced fumbles. After tearing his ACL in the Spring of 2017, he made an almost magical return to the field in under 6 months, in a game that many will remember his Pick-6 against Illinois. Unfortunately the knee was already reinjured at that point in the game, something that we dive into during our conversation, and his season would end. He transferred to SDSU for his final season of eligibility and finished his career with the Jackrabbits. Week Zero, whatever that means, has come and gone and that means college football teams across the country have started their quest for glory in 2022. 2 of those teams, Nebraska and Northwestern, have been waiting all off season to rectify poor campaigns from the 2021 seasons. They would do so in Ireland, thousands of miles away from Lincoln, Evanston, and the rest of B1G country to kick off the 2022 Big Ten slate. And while both teams seemed to have improved on a couple areas of the game, it appears Nebraska will be chasing some more of the same this year.
