Raimond Braithwaite is in his 19th year as a member of the strength and conditioning staff with the University of Iowa football program. He was named director in March, 2021, after being named interim director in June, 2020. Braithwaite was a member of the Iowa staff from 2002-04 and rejoined the Hawkeye program after serving as the head strength and conditioning coach at Delaware State (2005-07). In this episode Drake and Kevin catch up with Coach after years of being away from the weight room in Iowa City. Mark transferred in to Iowa as a Walkon FB from Air Force. Went on to become a pivotal feature of the Iowa run game in 2012, 2013, and 2014. He is, from the inside perspective, one of the most respected teammates we ever had, and one of the best overall 'Hawkeyes' there has ever been. He entered the Strength and Conditioning world after football ended, and has since found his way to director of performance inside the Chicago Cubs organization. Dorian is quite possibly the most interesting guest we have ever had on our show. Drake met Dorian in Nashville while training MMA and immediately knew he needed to be a Walkon guest. He got into MMA at an early age of 18 after playing basketball growing up, and tells a wild story about how when an opportunity to go to Thailand presented itself, he never looked back, and didn't really have a choice. He would end up coming back to the US after 7 months but then spent an entire decade back in Thailand from 2009 to 2020. He talks about the crazy training hours and sessions they would put in at the Thai camps, his living conditions, the culture of fighting over there, and a whole lot more. Bailey is from Davenport, IA and attended Davenport North High School. Joined the Iowa Volleyball program as a fellow WALKON in the spring of 2020 after graduating High School early. We discuss the weird ins and outs of joining the team right in the beginning of a pandemic. After a couple years in Iowa City she entered the portal amongst some uncertainty in the program but when 2nd year Coach Rick Barnes was hired he put Bailey on scholarship to lock her down for the Hawkeyes. Andrew was 1 of 5 kids out for football at his High School, forcing them to merge into the Cedar Falls team. He did enough to elevate to Iowa Western for 2 years before coming to the U of I. He is one of those guys you never heard a lot about from the stadium announcer but was a critical teammate and glue guy off the field. He now enters year 3 for the Cincinnati Bengals after spending 4 years in San Fran. He came into the 9ers organization the same year as Kittle, and trained with him for draft prep. Ladell is from Kansas City, Missouri and attended Blue Springs High School. By the end of his high school career he was a standout on the football field and that earned him a scholarship to the University of Iowa. He excelled early, was a significant part of the Iowa Rushing attack for his entire career, and is still the only player ever to lead the Hawkeyes in rushing in 4 straight years. His career was uniquely split between Coach Hayden Fry and standing head coach Kirk Ferentz, the man that he now coaches under. We discussed the transition of coaches and what that was like from the player perspective, what the team realized once Coach Ferentz took over, and other details from his career at the turn of the millennium. He went on to have a very successful career in the NFL as a running back for the Washington Redskins, playing in the league from 2002 through 2010. He got into coaching shortly after he retired and spent time at a handful of high schools, before a conversation with his wife sparked a path to thinking about elevating to the college level and beyond. Ryan grew up in Lisbon, Iowa not to far from Iowa City, and was a member of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club from an early age. He stood out in high school winning 3 state championships and eventually decided on the Hawkeyes. He talks in depth about that decision and the recruiting of Tom Brand to Virginia Tech. Matt was born in Phoenix AZ but grew up and graduated an Iowa boy, spending his prep years at Dowling Catholic High School. Kluver competed in travel sports as kids against Matt, who happens to be one of Jon Wiz's best friends from Dowling. Kluver and Matt would later play in Shrine Bowl together before heading off to college. Matt was a talented athlete with some interest as a WR but happened into a boom of Punting interest his junior year. This odd skill landed him a scholarship at Arizona State University where he would go on to start for 3 years and play next to college great Zane Gonzalez. Matt was picked up as a free agent after graduating and has now spent 6 seasons in the NFL with 4 teams.
