However, in true Velvet's Edge form, those stories of her successes as well as failures launched a much deeper conversation about true life purpose, finding your soulmate and the lessons in the ups and downs of life."I found my soulmate at 65," Norma Kamali tells Kelly. "And I simply wasn't ready for him before that. From failed marriages to childhood happenings, I had a lot to sort out within myself." Ms. Kamali laughs when Kelly says "I'm about to turn 40 and I had this mentality at first, like, my life is done. It's over!" and rebuddles "that's hilarious. You are just getting started." Kamali tells her stories of being broke while having her designs run in major magazines like Vogue and is the greatest reminder of not comparing your insides with others outsides and staying the course to your own purpose. S1 Ep 392Kelly's Favorite Conversations: Ways To Find Peace Through Pain with Singer/Songwriter Blessing Offor (The Edge)
Many of you may know singer/songwriter, Blessing Offor, as the outstanding vocalist who sang so strongly he had all four judges turn their chairs around. Although his talent is something only dreams are made of, it's his sroty of hardship and then his positive outlook on life that makes him the magnetic human that he is. Blessing was born without vision in his left eye and lost vision in his right eye in an accident as a young boy. To most, this would be a tragedy hard to recover from, for Blessing it was his call to channel that hardship into purpose. "If you told me I had the chance to do that moment (losing vision in his right eye) all over again, I would say, where do I stand? I would do it exactly as it happened, because that moment is the moment that shaped me into who I am today." Blessing talks about the one question he asks himself when he is having a hard time or bad day/moment: "We put so much energy into what's wrong, like the traffic, and what I know is that it's never really about the traffic. There is always something deeper that's actually going on." His favorite quote:"Grief carves a canyon, so that joy can overflow it." And the best tidbit his therapist ever pointed out to him about the human condition: "Sitting with yourself is a truly POWERFUL thing." Blessing also tells Chip and Kelly about his musical inspirations, new music coming up and where listeners can go on the journey with him. website: blessingoffor.com socials: @blessingoffor Follow Kelly: @velvetsedge Follow Chip: @chipdorsch Email: [email protected] Velvet's Edge on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/velvetsedge/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 381Sober Curious Update (The Edge)
Sober Curious UpdateDescription: Kelly gives updates on where she stands with alcohol and her sober curious journey. She answers email questions about whether or not she is drinking at all, what today looks like and what cutting out alcohol completely for 10 months taught her.“Being sober curious means, literally, to choose to question, or get curious about, every impulse, invitation, and expectation to drink, versus mindlessly going along with the dominant drinking culture.” -Ruby Warrington“It was an interesting realization to see how disconnected from self I had become and the level of self respect that came from starting to choose myself and respecting my body. Ultimately, in many ways removing alcohol has really aided in my relationship with self.”The duo discussed mindless drinking and how alcohol is treated as a solution to everything in our culture. Kelly addressed why being sober curious doesn’t mean you have a problem with alcohol.“It’s actually so empowering. When someone says ‘do you want to drink?’ You actually pause and ask yourself- ‘do I want a drink right now?’ I just don’t think it hurts to ask the questions.”They also address the massive physical benefits Kelly discovered, including a drastic change in her anxiety levels.“You start to crave different things- a 20 minute walk, a quiet 10 minutes where you breathe deeply and connect to your body, 2 minutes of dancing around the room. You brain adjusts to new ways to get the hit of dopamine and they actually last longer and have no negative hangover effects.”Chip talks about his own journey of cutting back on alcohol. S1 Ep 366Life Be Lifin' and Other Ways To Find Peace Through Pain (The Edge)
