S2 Ep 7676. Overcoming the Lies of the Enemy: Lie #4-The World Would Be Better Without Me
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! Lie #4-The World Would Be Better Off Without Me Oh girl, if you have ever thought this…I just want you to know that you are so valuable! God placed you in this world on purpose. He has a plan for your life that’s bigger than we can even imagine. The reason many teen girls struggle with this is because the enemy wants nothing more than to take you out. This is a lie because there is no truth in it at all! The world is better because you are here. You are so loved by God! You are accepted by God, chosen by God, and adopted into His family. I talked about this a couple weeks ago, but I’m going to bring it up again…suicide is the 2ndleading cause of death in teens today. On average, 3.703 middle schoolers and high schoolers have made an attempt to take their lives. There are several reasons that we are seeing this, but among those reasons are the lie that we are going to talk about today: “the world would be better off without me.” Maybe it’s that teens have had a rough life. They have been hurt and they feel like they messed up somewhere. Or maybe they just don’t think they can take the pain and hurt anymore…this was me as an 8 year old. Maybe it seems like the world is going to get worse and it’s scary. There are so many reasons why teens can feel this way, but there is hope. If this is you, don’t give up! You are so valuable! We need you here on this earth! God has a plan for your life that is so much bigger than you realize. Check out this week's episode to learn how this world is actually better with you in it! S2 Ep 7575. Overcoming the Lies of the Enemy: Lie #3-The Music I Listen To Doesn’t Really Matter
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! A lot of music is catchy. I get it. When I became a Christian, I was 17 years old and up to that point, I listened to some very secular music…like music not good at all and the reason I did wasn’t because I liked what the lyrics said, I like the way that they sounded. Honestly, I didn’t really think I was even paying attention to the lyrics. I mean, I never actually sat back and said, what does this song say…what does it mean? No, I just sang them and listened to them. The problem with that was, Proverbs 18:21 tells us that death and life are in the power of the tongue, whatever we speak (or sing), even if we’re not paying attention to them, we will eventually see. And if we really watch the things we say or think about, we’ll find that a lot of what we’re singing about is what we’re thinking about. I remember being at a high school/college conference in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado and the pastor was talking about this very thing…why the music we listen to was important. Many of my friends at the time, me included at first rebelled at the thought…how dare they tell me what music to listen to. It’s not that bad…and then, God got ahold of my heart. I began thinking about the lyrics that I was singing or listening to, and they really started to bother me. These songs weren’t great songs at all. It's not that they had language, because they didn’t. I didn’t care for that even when I wasn’t a Christian, but what they were singing about was all about was the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life: depression-how heartbroken they were, anger, how good looking men were, rebellion. It wasn’t until I started really paying attention to the lyrics that I was singing and listening to that I realized that those were the exact things that I was dealing with as well. I fought off feelings of depression…not thinking that I was good enough for anyone, thinking that everyone who loved me would leave me. I was fighting off anger…anger that I had to fight through life on my own (I hadn’t totally realized that I could rely on God to walk through the fire with me). I had to fight the feeling of if I didn’t have a boyfriend, I was nothing. Then, when I had boyfriends, they were not good at all. I had a couple who were abusive, but always leaving me more broken than before I dated them. After this realization, I wish I could say that I just got rid of all my secular music at that time, but I didn’t. It wasn’t easy for me. I did get rid of some of the ones who I thought were the worst, but I still held on to some of them, because music was something that was a part of who I was. I couldn’t just cut off music and listen to old school hymns all the time—no offense to you who listen to old school hymns. My teenage self, coming from the world, wasn’t into that. Then, I discovered this whole new genre of music that did glorify God and was something I could Support the show Want a little extra sparkle this month? ✨ Grab your December Glow Mail and soak in God's Radiant Love for you! S2 Ep 7474. Overcoming the Lies of the Enemy: Lie #2-There Are Many Ways to God
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! Last week we started a series on Overcoming the Lies of the Enemy. In this series, we’re going to be talking about some of the biggest lies that the enemy has been telling teens today, what the truth is, and how you can help those who may be caught up in these lies. Lie #2 that we are going to talk about is, “There are many ways to get to God.” Statistic: Almost half of Christians today believe that even if you don’t believe in Jesus, you can still go to heaven. Statistic: Only 32% of Christians say you can’t go to heaven if you don’t make Jesus the Lord of Your Life. Teen Statistic: 45% of teens in general believe that many religions are true. Only 31% say that there’s only one faith that’s truth. If the lie is that there are many ways to get to God, what is the truth? John 14:6 and this is Jesus speaking says, “I am THE way, and THE truth, and THE life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Notice He didn't say, I am A way, A Truth, and A Life, but instead He said THE. THE implies that there is only one way. Why is Jesus the only way? S2 Ep 7373. Overcoming the Lies of the Enemy: Lie #1-Follow Your Heart! Do What Feels Right!
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! This week, we are going to start a series called, “Overcoming the Lies of the Enemy." John 8:31-32 tell us that it’s the Truth (or God’s Word) that we know that makes us free in every area of our lives. This culture is yelling at us…the enemy is not keeping silent. He wants us deceived, because he knows if we are deceived, eventually he can get us to walk away from God once and for all. So, in this series, we’re going to be talking about some of the biggest lies I hear that the enemy and this culture are telling teens today…and a lot of teens are believing them as truth. We’re going to learn what the truth really is and how do we help reach people who may be deceived and encourage them with the Truth. Many teens today are believing these lies as truth and I truly believe that these lies have a direct correlation to why suicide rates among teens today (especially teen girls) is so high…the highest it’s ever been. 22% of teens in high school have had serious thoughts about suicide. Think about this…the average high school today in the United States is 850 students. 22% of 850 students looks like this…187 students in that one high school have had serious thoughts about suicide. 9 percent of those high school students have actually attempted to take their lives. That 9% looks like this, out of that same high school, 76.5 students have tried to take their lives. Ladies, this is heart breaking to me…and not okay. God has a purpose and a plan for every single one of your lives. He thoughts about every detail about you before you were born and it pleased Him to create you! There are several reasons that the suicide rate is so high among teens and we’re going to be talking about them over the course of the next several weeks. Ladies, be sure to share these episodes with your friends. It can be the encouragement and hope that they have been looking for. This week, we are going to be talking about Lie #1 which is: Follow your heart. Do what feels right. In these past several weeks, I have heard so much talk about this, which is why it’s number one. It doesn’t mean it’s any worse than the other lies…a lie is a lie and it is not truth, no matter what it is. Listen in to learn more about what the enemy is telling you about this lie and what the truth of God's Word actually says! S2 Ep 7272. Fan or Follower
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! For many of us, right now, it’s summertime and summertime for a lot of us can be binge watching our favorite tv show, playing video games, going to the pool. Let’s face it, in the summertime….well, even during the school year, we can become complacent...or a little bit lazy in our walk with God. No matter where you are with your walk with God...whether you're on fire or maybe you've been a little lazy, I want to encourage you to take this little test…don’t worry, it’s only 3 questions long. And before we get started, I want to share that I have to do a mental check up quite often to make sure I’m not falling into complacency either. None of us, including me are immune. 1. Do you follow Jesus only when it’s convenient or when it’s popular or do you follow Jesus even when it’s not convenient or when you’re around people who don’t believe in Him? 2. When you’re praying, are you only praying about what Jesus can do for you or are you also taking time to pray about what He wants you to do for Him? 3. Are you a fan of Jesus or are you a follower of Jesus? What do I mean by that? A true follower of anyone, doesn’t just take the time to learn from them, but they try to live like them. Imagine you played soccer (you might) and your all-time favorite professional soccer player came up to you and asked you if they could mentor, you. Show you some skills and help you become that top professional soccer player like they are. Would you just listen to them and never apply anything they told you or would you try to do the things that they told you to do. Of course, you would do them, because you want to be the best you can be, right? The same thing is true with Jesus. If we want to win in every area of our lives, we don’t need to just hear what God is saying to us through the Bible, we need to apply it to our lives as well! Being a follower of Jesus will mean that there will be times that you will need to give things up in order to follow Him, but I want you to know that when God has you give something up, it’s always because He has something better in store for you. For example, maybe you’ve been a part of your school competition choir, but God has been placing it on your heart to step down. You can’t understand why He would do that, but you choose to listen. After you step down, the youth pastor comes up to you and starts talking to you about being a part of the youth praise team. Because you obeyed, now that time has been freed up in your schedule, you can step into God’s calling for your life. Now that was just an example, I cannot say that’s going to be the case every time. But this is how God works. If He asks you to give something up, it’s because He wants to take you to the next level with something else. Complacency is a place that we can easily slip into if we’re not cautious. As I said earlier, I have to give myself a checkup from time to time to make sure Support the show Want a little extra sparkle this month? ✨ Grab your December Glow Mail and soak in God's Radiant Love for you! S2 Ep 7171. AMA: I’m Called by God, Now What?
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! On this week's Ask Me Anything episode, Kayla asks, "What is my next step for a calling in ministry?" I love this question, because I felt like God was calling me to ministry in my teen years as well, so I’m excited to answer this question. Now, for those of you who maybe don’t quite feel that you’re called into ministry, I want to encourage you to listen to this anyway, because what we’re going to talk about will apply to you as well. So, Kayla wants to know what her next step should be for a calling in ministry. So, let’s answer these questions first, what does it mean to be called? And is everyone called? Your calling is your purpose. So, the answer to the second question is yes, everyone is called. Every single one of you has a purpose. Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we are God’s workmanship, His masterpiece. When we gave our lives to Jesus, we were born again so that we could fulfill God’s purpose for our life. He prepared our purpose before the world even began, so that we could walk in that purpose, living the good life which God prearranged and made ready for us to live! Jeremiah 1:5 tells us that before we were in our mother’s womb, God knew everything about us, approved us and then called us to a purpose. Now, is everyone called into the ministry? That answer is yes…and no. Does God have a ministry for each of our lives? Yes. We are all called to share the Good News of Jesus wherever it is we are called. We will make a difference in what it is God has called us to do. Now, will that be in full-time ministry, maybe, but maybe not. And if not, that doesn’t make your purpose any less important than someone who is called into full-time ministry. God has a different plan for each of us that fits so uniquely together in one giant puzzle. We need every piece of the puzzle in order to complete what God has called us to do. Just a hint while you’re discovering your calling, your calling is going to have something to do with your uniqueness. Many times, we look at ourselves and all of the ways we are different from others and think that we are flawed…that there’s something wrong with us. But it’s in those things that make you different that will help you discover your purpose. We shouldn’t see our uniqueness as something bad. God created us that way on purpose for our purpose. Check out this week's episode to learn: 1. How to receive your calling? 2. What do you do when you're called? 3. 4 Reasons NOT to go into ministry unless you are called specifically by God! S2 Ep 7070. Is this Really True with Kathy Gibbons: Part 2
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! Last week on the UncommonTEEN Podcast, Kathy Gibbons shared with us two of the greatest enemies to really good thinking: Emotionalism-people preying on our emotions so they can get us to do or feel the way the want us to. Relativism-we can all create our own truth. We can't have one person saying that their truth is that there is a God and another person saying that their truth is that there is no God. There can't both be a God and not be a God, that doesn't even make sense. This week, Kathy goes into more details and shares with us practical tips that we can do to combat this kind of thinking in today's culture. S2 Ep 6868. Going All In with God
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! What does it mean to go all in? It means to be fully committed, to be fully persuaded. So what does it mean to go all in with God? It means that we are fully committed and fully persuaded that we are going to live our lives for God. I remember being a senior in high school and a friend of mine invited me to church and hearing the message that God loved me and that message kind of blew me away because on the inside I'm thinking, wait, God loves me, but nobody loves me. See, growing up I grew up in a very rough home and I didn't know what love was, never heard the words I love you. Never received a hug. I didn't know what love was. I had grown up with a thought process that nobody loved me...that everybody who was supposed to love me, didn't love me. And so when I heard that God loved me, that He really loved me, that He sent his Son to die for me personally, it rocked my world. And I remember as a brand new Christian that I wanted to live for God, but I had no idea that I could go all in with God. I didn't even know that was such a thing. I didn't really know that I was supposed to read my Bible. I kind of did here and there, but I didn't really know what I was doing. I didn't really understand how to pray. I thought every time I prayed that I was just talking to myself and I'm like, is God really even hearing me? I remember being in college and we went on this mission trip to Mexico and I remember waking up one morning and it was freezing because when you're in the desert it gets really cold overnight, even though it's super hot during the daytime. And I woke up, I was freezing. I didn't wanna get out of my sleeping bag. So I just sat there with God and it just hit me: God really loves me! I received a revelation of God's love like I had never had before. And it was in that moment, I decided I was going all in with God. But in order to go all in with God, there were some things that I needed to learn, and I didn't know this at the time. I had to get a revelation of how much God loved me. I had to learn. How to know God for myself, not just what other people were sharing with me, which is okay if they're speaking the Bible, but I had to learn to know God for myself. And then the last thing that I had to learn was I had to learn how to develop a compassion for other people. Once I had a revelation of those three areas, it's then that I was able to go all in with God and He transformed my life. S2 Ep 6767. AMA: How Can I Forgive Myself and Heal After Confessing My Sin?
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! On this week's Ask Me Anything Episode, Ashley asks, "How can I forgive myself and heal after confessing my sin to God?" This is such a good question. When we know that we’ve messed up, it can be easy for any of us to hold onto that guilt, sometimes for years, and it just eats away at us on the inside. One amazing thing about our God is that Proverbs 28:13 tells us that when we confess our sins, we find mercy. That word mercy means that from God, we will find forgiveness, compassion, and love. What amazing God we have. Instead of turning to us and yelling at us or telling us how He can’t believe that bad choices that we’ve made, He turns to us and says, “Daughter, I love you! I love you too much to leave you broken and where you are. When you walk with Me, you will find freedom in every area of your life!” That forgiveness, that compassion, and mercy is great, but sometimes it’s not so easy to forgive ourselves for the things that we’ve done. When we hold onto unforgiveness toward ourselves and we hold onto guilt, it causes us to hate ourselves. It causes us to be angry and irritable. It causes us to be insecure and to doubt our choices. I don’t speak on this because I’m some kind of medical professional…I am not. I can speak on this, though, because I have been there. All of the bad choices that I made, even if it was something as small as I forgot to finish my homework and now, I was rushing to get it done before class…I would pile all these choices up in my mind and beat myself up mentally. How could I do that? What was wrong with me? It wasn’t until I finally gave all that over to God that I was able to become free. A lot of times that guilt that we carry isn’t from something small like not finishing our homework, but a lot of times it comes from something we did or that was done to us that really rocked our world. How do we overcome the guilt of something like that? How do we forgive ourselves? Ashley, I’m so thankful that you asked this question. Do I really even matter to God? If you’ve ever questioned God on these things, know that you are not alone. I think at certain times in all of our lives, we have these questions. These are questions that go through so many of our heads. Do I really have a purpose? Is there really a reason for me being here? Do I really matter to God? They answer to all of those question is…yes! Absolutely! You do have a purpose…there is a reason that you are here, and you really do matter to God…more than you know! Your very existence here on this earth is proof that God saw a problem that only you could solve, that’s why He created you! He needs you! He wants you! You really do matter! S2 Ep 6565. Ask Me Anything: I Lost My Faith, How Do I Get It Back?
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! This week, we are doing another AMA episode. Ladies, you all have some really great questions, and I am thankful that I can hopefully shed some light on the questions that you have. If you have a question that you would like to ask, all you need to do is head on over to the UncommonTEEN app and click on the tab that says, “Ask Me Anything.” If your question gets chosen, it will be featured on an upcoming episode of the UncommonTEEN Podcast. All right, so this week’s question comes from Zoe. Zoe says, “I know that God is there, but sometimes it feels like there’s no hope for anything. When my dad was placed in the hospital a few years ago I had lost all my faith. I still haven’t totally regained faith, but how can I? How can I have a better relationship with him?” Zoe, thank you so much for asking this question. Sometimes things happen in life that we don’t understand. We thought one thing and another thing happened. However, I want you to know that God is not our problem when bad things happen, He is our solution. There is a very real devil who wants to destroy us. John 10:10 tells us that the thief (or the devil) is the one that comes to steal, to kill and to destroy, but Jesus has come that we may have life and life more abundantly. If it steals, if it kills or it destroys…it’s from the devil. If it gives life, it’s from God. God is there for you, always. 12 different times throughout the whole Bible, God tells us that He will never leave us or forsake us…which means He will never turn His back on you. He loves you so, so much! It pains God to see us hurting. Psalm 34:18 tells us that the Lord is near to those who have a broken heart. Listen into this episode to learn more about: How to get your hopes back up, even if they feel crushed. How do we regain and grow in our faith. How do we have a better relationship with God? BONUS QUESTION that was answered: How do we make our relationship with God fun? Sometimes it seems so boring. S2 Ep 6464. Shine Your Light!
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! This past weekend many of us celebrated Easter or the Resurrection of Jesus. As I think back to Good Friday and what the Resurrection really means to me, I can’t help but be overwhelmed with God’s goodness and His love. When we think back to the Garden of Gethsemane…the Garden where Jesus was praying before He was betrayed by Judas and was brought in to be crucified…Jesus had gone away with His closest disciples to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. As He was praying, the weight of what He was about to do laid so heavily on His shoulders that He actually sweat out blood. He was under such pressure that as He was sweating blood He cried out to God and in Luke 22 verse 42, says, “Father, if you are willing, remove the cup from Me.” Or in otherwards, if there is any other way, I would gladly take it. Why would He pray that? Jesus knew the Old Testament and knew that He was about to be arrested. He knew that He was about to be stripped of all His clothes and made fun of. He knew that He was about to be beaten beyond recognition. We read in Isaiah 52:14 that Jesus didn’t even look human—a ruined face, disfigured past recognition.” But even with that, that wasn’t the worst part for Him. He was willing to do that for us. The part that He really felt the pressure of was that He was about to take on the sins of the world. Think about this…Jesus walked this earth perfectly. He never sinned, never messed up. He was perfection Himself and now He was about to take on every single sin that had ever taken place…and every single sin that would ever take place even in the future. He took everyone one of your mistakes and everyone one of my mistakes on His shoulders. Jesus so despised sin, but was willing to take it on so that He could give you His perfection. Why do you need His perfection? Because God is perfect, the only way we can make it into heaven is if we are perfect. Well, I don’t know about you, but I know that I am far from perfect. I mean…have you ever even rolled your eyes at your parents? Or maybe even talked bad about someone…even if they deserved it? Even with just those small things, it would mean that there is no way that we could make it into heaven. If your life was a test and even if you got everything 99.9% right, it’s still not 100%, therefore we can’t make it in. That’s a problem for everyone. Romans 3:23 tells us that all of us have messed up…even if it was just once and we all fall short of the glory of God…from His perfection. With knowing just that…that doesn’t give us a whole lot of hope for the future. However, Romans 5:8 tells us that while we were still out there sinning, Christ died for us. Romans 10:9-19 tell us that all we have to do to receive His free gift is confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead and we are saved! And when we receive Him, (whether Support the show Want a little extra sparkle this month? ✨ Grab your December Glow Mail and soak in God's Radiant Love for you! S2 Ep 6262. AMA: I’m A New Christian, but I Feel Like There are So Many Rules
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! It’s an AMA (or an Ask Me Anything) episode! Which means I'm answering a question from one of you amazing ladies. Our question this week comes from Finley. Finley Asks: I am a new Christian and trying to get close to God, but I feel like there are so many rules to follow to be a Christian and I feel like I’m letting God down when I mess up (like forgetting to read the Bible and pray). And every time I do something wrong, I feel so guilty. I pray and pray. I know God still loves me. Can you help me? Finley is a new Christian…which, let’s take a second and celebrate that! Yay! Finley, I am telling you, this is the absolute best decision you will ever make in life! Now, In your question, there were several different topics we are going to cover in this week's episode: Is Christianity really about a bunch of rules? When I mess up, am I really letting God down? Why do I feel so guilty? Can I overcome this? Does God still love me even when I mess up? Spoiler Alert: the answer is YES!! Now really quick, I want to talk to those of you who are new Christians. I want to give you 5 things that you can do to really begin to grow stronger in your walk with God. Make it a habit to read your Bible daily…and if you miss a day, don’t beat yourself up, just start again the next day! Start a personal prayer time between you and God. Prayer is not a formal, strict thing. It’s a conversation with God on a personal level-talk to Him just like you would talk to your friends. Make sure that you're going to a good church (meaning a Bible based church) where you can grow in the things of God! If you aren't able to go to a good church, because you don't have one near you or your parents aren't Christians, here is the link to my church...Joy Church...that you can check out. I will warn you, the Pastor is funny, but you will also learn a lot: https://www.youtube.com/@JoyChurch Listen to the one thing God is telling you to do and do it. I am telling you, your life will be so much better when you do...even if it seems so hard to do it. Break off any “emotional” relationships or friendships with those who are pulling you away from God. Check out this week's episode of the UncommonTEEN Podcast to learn more! S2 Ep 6161. Keeping My Focus on God!
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! In Ephesians 6:11, Paul tells us to put on the whole armor of God so that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. That word wiles in that verse means mind games or schemes. The enemy is playing mind games with us to pull us away from God to where we feel distant from Him or where we don’t feel like we have a purpose or that we don’t measure up. Those are all lies…mind games that the enemy plays with us. Have you ever seen the part of the cartoon Looney Tunes that has Wiley Cayote and Road Runner. Basically, Wiley Cayote is like the devil here. His number one tactic is to get Road Runner off of the right road and onto a road that will lead to destruction. So, he does these different things to get Road Runner to get off the right road. For example, the road that Road Runner is on ends in a cliff that could lead him to destruction. Wiley Cayote doesn’t want Road Runner to switch to the right road, so he takes a big canvas and paints a picture on it making it look like the road continues on. However, because Road Runner is on the right path, he avoids destruction every time. This is the same game that the enemy is trying to play with us. He wants to try to pull us off of the right road and onto a road that leads to destruction. That is the whole reason he uses distractions. It is a mind game that he’s playing with us. Now, last week, again, we talked about distractions, but this week, we’re going to talk about how to stay focused and in order to do so, we are going to look at the life of Nehemiah 5 Ways to Stay Focused Know that your victory comes from God! Know that there was power in both praying and staying on guard. Know that God has a plan for your life and that your life is important. Don't waste your time fighting battles you weren't meant to fight. to do. Don't quit! To learn how to stay focused in the midst of challenges, in the midst of distractions or even in the midst of a lack of motivation, check out this week's episode of the UncommonTEEN Podcast! S2 Ep 6060. Conquering Distractions
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! Ladies, I don’t know about you, but I have come against so many distractions this year. At the end of 2022, God was showing me some pretty amazing things that He wanted me to do this year. I was super excited about all that God was going to do…and then January 1st came, and wow did the enemy really ramp up his plan to distract me! I mean, literally from the very first day of January, the enemy has been trying his best to stop me from stepping into all that God has for my life. And I know I’m not the only one. I talk to so many of you telling me the same thing. That distractions this year have been unreal. Whether it be family challenges, social media, our phones or even school…it seems like so many of us are facing more distractions this year than we have in the past. But did you know that there is a reason for that? Did you know that it’s part of the enemy’s plan for our lives to distract us. The thing about the devil is this…the more we focus on growing in our relationship with God or doing what it is that God is calling us to do, the more the enemy is going to throw distractions our way. Tune in today to learn how you can conquer distractions so they don't conquer you! S2 Ep 5757. How Do I Hear from God?
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! Last week I answered the question, "How Do I Become a Strong Christian?" So this week, I am answering the second question that was asked, "How Do I Hear from God?" As I shared last week, the number one was that we hear from God is through His Word. This is why I so encourage you to make sure you are getting into the Bible every single day! John 10:27 tells us that when we make it a habit to get into the Bible, we will know what God's voice sounds like and we won't be led astray by the enemy. Another way that we hear God speak to us is through our hearts. This is not as common as when He speaks to us through His Word, however, this is how God spoke to me when I knew without a shadow of a doubt that God called me to serve teens. A third way that God can speak to us is through other people...maybe your pastor or your youth pastor...or even through this podcast, God might be speaking directly to you. Maybe you've been talking to God about something and you get your answer through one of us or someone else. God is so good! Now, I do highly caution you about people who call themselves prophets or say to you, "God told me (fill in the blank). A lot of these people aren't hearing from God. Now, some are legitimate and God really did share with them to share something with you, but most are not. So, if someone says that to you or your watching a video that says something like that, ask yourself these two questions: Have I been talking to God about this or has He been talking to me about it? Does is line up with the Bible? God will never guide you outside of the Bible. Another way God speaks to us is through peace. If you have given your life to Jesus and you have gone all in with God, He has given you the Holy Spirit that lives on the inside of you. John 16:13 and this is Jesus speaking, He said, “When the Spirit of Truth comes (that’s the Holy Spirit), He will guide you into all Truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears from God, He will speak, and He will declare to you the things that are to come. The Holy Spirit is speaking to you and will guide you with peace! Also, some of you have asked me the question, how do you know what to do when you have to make a decision that isn't specific in the Bible...like what college to go to or whether or not you should play a certain sport, be sure to check out this week's episode of the UncommonTEEN Podcast to learn more! S2 Ep 5656. How Do I Become a Strong Christian?
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! I remember being a new Christian and thinking to myself, how do I grow stronger in my walk with God? How do I actually get closer to Him? So many people have talked about how they hear God or that they are called by God, but how do I hear from Him? These are all great questions that I know many of you may be asking yourself. I love this question, because it means that your heart is in the right place and any time you reach out to God, He will always meet you right where you’re at! So, if you reach out to God and ask Him, how do I grow stronger in my walk with You, Lord? He will meet you right where you’re at and show you. Now, He may be showing you through this podcast. He may be showing you through a message your pastor gives at church. He may be showing you through modeling it in the life of someone who is a couple steps further along in their faith as you are. This week, I'm going to answer the question, "How do I become a Strong Christian? and next week we'll talk about "how do you hear from God?" So, how do you become a strong Christian? Spend time with God daily! When you’re at church or even when you’re listening to this podcast, take notes. Spend time with those who love God and are making a difference for Him. S2 Ep 5454. What Does It Mean to Honor Your Parents?
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! Normally, I only do one Ask Me Anything episode a month, but I loved this question that was sent to me and because we honestly don’t hear much about this topic at all, I thought it would be a great time to talk about it. Rowan asks, “I need to explain to my Christian friends that it’s important to honor your parents but I don’t know how to do it. In the Bible, in Exodus 20:12 it says, “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.” But what is honor and what does it mean to honor our parents? According to the United States Army, they define honor as: a matter of carrying out, acting, and living the values of: respect (holding others in high esteem or regard) duty (commitment) loyalty (faithfulness and devotion) selfless service (concern and compassion for those around them) integrity (being honest and showing consistency to strong moral values) and personal courage (bravery) in everything you do. So what does it mean to honor your parents? Are you supposed to honor your parents even if they don't deserve it? If so, how do you honor your parents when they don't deserve it? How do you help your friends honor their parents? These are all questions we talk about in this week's episode of the UncommonTEEN Podcast. S1 Ep 5050. You Are Uncommon!
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! It’s so easy for us to want to be someone that we’re not. We are an expert at picking out all the things we don’t like about ourselves, but when it comes to finding things we like, it’s almost impossible. However, did you know that God created you just the way you are on purpose, and He saw you as something good! Ecclesiastes 3: 11 tells us that God has made everything beautiful in its time and that He has a purpose for your life! He wants to use you to do something big with your life. He wants to use you to be a world-changer! The way that you were made fits right into what it is that God created you to do. Ephesians 2:10 says that you are God’s masterpiece. He had a plan for your life before the world was even formed. Way before you were ever born, He thought about every detail about you and said, “I want her so she can use who she is to shine the light of Jesus in this world. You are unique! Which means you are a one of a kind. There is no one in this world like you…and that is an amazing thing. When you try to become someone you’re not, because you’re different, it’s frustrating. The best we can ever be when we try to be like someone else is second best. Embrace who it is that God created you to be. Yes, there are things we need to work on and grow in. As you grow in your walk with God, He will begin to work on those things, but He can’t use you if you don’t like who you are. Check out this week's episode of the UncommonTEEN Podcast to learn more! S2 Ep 4949. God’s Love Is So Much Bigger Than You Realize!
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! When you know that you know that you know that God loves you, it changes everything! There is nothing you can do to get God to love you any more than He already does. He doesn’t need you to be perfect. There isn’t anything that you can do to get God to love you any less that He does! He loves you, because that’s who He is! His love for us is so good that we can’t even understand it. His love has no conditions…it has no breaking point. It doesn’t matter if we were the worst criminal on the face of the planet, He would still love us. Think about it. John 3:16 tells us that God so loved the world…all of the people who ever walked the face of this planet and everyone who is yet to be here…He loved us all so much that He would send His Son, Jesus to die for us so that we could know how much He truly loves us. When Jesus went to the cross, He willingly gave up His life for people who hated Him. Who made fun of Him and beat Him. Who killed others who would choose to believe in Him. He willingly gave up His life, because of His great love toward us! So many times, we find it hard that God would love even us. We may say, “Yeah, well you don’t know what I did.” Or “You don’t know what they did to me. I’m broken. I’m unlovable. There’s no way that even God could love me.” However, when God looks at us…He’s not thinking those things at all. He’s not coming to you with an attitude of, “What did you do this time?” or “Are you kidding me? You really messed up this time!” No! Instead, He looks at you with love and compassion and when you mess up He says, “My daughter, if you only knew how valuable you are…you wouldn’t feel the need to make choices that hurt you.” “My daughter if you only knew how much I love you, you wouldn’t feel like you are unlovable and broken, but you would see that you are so loved. I’ve never stopped loving you!” Ladies, God loves you! He will never give up on you. He is committed to you! He is faithful! When you say yes to Jesus…when you say Yes to His great love for you…it changes everything! Check out this week's episode of the UncommonTEEN Podcast to learn more! S2 Ep 4848. How Do I Handle Crushes?
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! I don’t know if you are anything like I was in middle school and high school, but oh my goodness, I had so many crushes! Anytime a boy was nice to me…or for that fact even talked to me or I thought he was even the slightest bit cute (forget him ever talking to me…in my mind, I practically had us getting married. I would practice writing my first name with his last name. Yep…crushes were a big deal for me. Honestly it was an obsession.` And I know that some of you listening, you may not have gone as far as I did with practically seeing them as my future husband, but you know that having a crush can be a big deal! Maybe it looks like this…every time you get dressed in the morning, you get dressed with him in mind, “I wonder what he will think of me. I wonder if he’ll like it. I wonder if he’ll notice me.” And you definitely know it’s a big deal when, like me, he is all you can think about. It seems like he consumes your every thought…so much so that your friends are getting a little bit tired of hearing about him…or maybe they join in on the crush and cannot wait to talk to you about them. Maybe it’s gotten to the point where you go out of your way just so you can see him. Maybe you have his class schedule memorized and you know exactly which locker is his and you…just so happen to be walking by those places hoping to get sight of him. Every time you get around him, your brain can’t give you a coherent thought…maybe you start giggling…your stomach is fluttering….ugh! Now, I want you to know having a crush is not a sin, however, if that crush becomes an obsession, that’s when it becomes a problem and let me tell you, I was obsessed with just about every crush I had! S2 Ep 4646. Is it Okay to Date a Guy Who’s Not a Christian?
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! This week's episode, I am going to answer a question that I have had from so many of you amazing ladies recently: Is it okay to date a guy who's not a Christian...even if he's a really great guy?" Okay, so just a disclaimer before we jump into this episode, this is not an episode where I tell you not to date…it’s not an episode where I tell you at what age I think you should date. That’s between you, your parents and God. However, if you ask my opinion on when you should date, what I would tell you is, wait until you’re ready to get married. And just so you don’t think I’m pointing my finger at you…I was there myself! With all of my boyfriends I had, if I am honest with myself, I sought them out. They liked me…this had to be it, right? Wrong. I hear this from so many teen girls…they see a guy that they like and it almost feels as if God is dropping him into their life. He might be, but more times than not, most of those guys, the enemy is using to pull you away from God. That is what happened with every relationship I had. So, a couple things I want to talk to you about from my personal experiences. The first one is this…2 Corinthians 6:14 tells us to not be yoked together (or in a close relationship) with unbelievers. This isn’t just talking about dating, but also about friendships. Then the verse goes on to say, “For what does righteousness (that is you when you have a relationship with God), and wickedness (not necessarily talking about the guy being a bad guy, he’s just not God’s guy…meaning he’s not a Christian)…what do they have in common? Or what fellowship can light (God calls you the light of the world) have with darkness (people who don’t know God). There are several reasons God had Paul write this in the Bible, because there’s so much truth to it. There’s a guy that you really like…he seems great…and are probably great…however, when you get into a relationship with someone who doesn’t believe in Jesus, you aren’t playing on the same playing field. You’re playing two different games with two different sets of rules on the same field. It’s like you’re playing football and baseball at the same time on the same field. Someone is going to get hurt. 2 Corinthians talks about not being unequally yoked. Now when I say that word, yoke, it’s not talking about an egg yolk. Gotquestions.org explains it this way: A yoke is a wooden bar that joins two oxen to each other. An unequally yoked team has one stronger ox and one weaker ox…or one taller and one shorter. The weaker or the shorter ox would walk more slowly than the taller, stronger one, causing the load to go around in circles. When oxen are unequally yoked, they cannot perform the task set before them. Instead of working together, they are at odds with one another…and work against each other. S2 Ep 4545. How to Make Friends When You’re Shy...and Even When You’re Not!
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! How do you make friends when you’re shy? One of you wonderful ladies asked me this question a couple weeks ago and then not too long after that, I had several more of you ask similar questions. As someone who grew up extremely shy and still have my moments even to this day…put me in a room with a big crowd and it’s not always the prettiest thing to watch…haha! But as someone who grew up extremely shy, I struggled with making friends even through my adult years. I remember a couple years ago, I was talking to this lady who was extremely outgoing and it seemed like she could make friends anywhere she went. I remember asking her the question, “How do you make friends? It just seems so hard, but you make it look easy.” I wish I could say that she gave me amazing advice and it absolutely changed my life…honestly, I don’t even remember what her advice was, but that conversation did change my life. I remember at the moment I asked her that question, something in my brain clicked and I knew that the only way that I was going to be able to make new friends was to get out there any make new friends! I had to step out of my comfort zone, so that I could step into my purpose! Now, you may be asking, “Well, what about me? I’m not shy. I’m actually extremely outgoing, but it’s still not easy for me to make friends. Will this work for me as well?” Yes, it will! The tips I’m going to share with you in this podcast episode will help anyone and everyone if you take action and do them! Today’s episode is going to be a little bit different, but I am going to give you 10 tips on how you can start making friends today! Pray about it. Love and accept who God made you to be. S2 Ep 4444. Thanksgiving Challenge
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! If you are in the United States, you know that this week is Thanksgiving week. As with any holiday, this can be a time of joy, it can be a time of sadness if you’re navigating it this year without a loved one, or if you were like my family growing up, it can be a time of chaos. With us, any time we get extended family together, you just never know what to expect. However, whether you are in the United States celebrating thanksgiving or even if you’re not, I want to encourage you this week to take time to do two things…one, take time to breathe. So many times we are running nonstop that we forget to take time to breathe…to pull back and just be with God. Turn on some praise music and just worship. Our God is so good. The second thing I want to encourage you to do this week is to find things you can be thankful for. I was talking to a couple of my friends not too long ago about why people get discouraged or why they even turn their backs on God and this is one of the biggest things we discovered, that they forgot to be thankful. In a culture that seems to be bent so much on being negative…like you won’t fit in unless your sarcastic or negative…sometimes it’s hard to choose to be thankful. Think about it, if I asked you to name 10 things that annoy you. How easy would it be for you to come up with them? Most of you could probably come up with all 10 in less than 60 seconds…some of you maybe even less that 30 seconds. Now, if I asked you to name 10 things that you are thankful for, how easy would it be to come up with them. For many of you, you may come up with about 3 things in 60 seconds. Why is that….it’s because we have gotten so used to hearing people complain…and maybe we’ve gotten used to complaining ourselves. I read about a research study that was done recently that said that when we choose to focus on complaining, we actually rewire our brains to continue to thing negatively. It also said that people who complain are more frustrated, more anxious, more depressed and deal with more anger issues than those who don’t complain. Ouch! That’s why it can be a habit that is super hard to break! But it’s not impossible! The same is true for the opposite, choosing to be thankful. When we intentionally choose to be thankful, even for the small things…especially for the small things…we then rewire our brain to think more positively. Then guess what…the frustration, the anxiety, the depression, the anger doesn’t want to stick around anymore because we aren’t feeding it what it wants. It’s not happy people who are thankful, but thankful people who are happy. S2 Ep 4242. The Power of Your, ”No” Part 1 with Leigh Mackenzie
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! We have our very special guest, Leigh Mackenzie joining us this week! Leigh is an author, a podcaster, and has a huge heart for teen girls. This week on the UncommonTEEN Podcast, we are talking about the power of your, "No!" From a very young age, Leigh's "no" was often ignored leaving her to be hurt and abused by several people. That is why she is passionate about sharing this message with you today. So many times, as Christians, we feel like we don't have a "no" that we can use, because we need to be good and nice and sweet...which is good...however, as Leigh shares, "sometimes there's a no that needs to go with that." On this week's episode, we talk about the power of your no and how you can use it to stand up for yourself or someone else, when it specifically comes to bullying. On next week's episode, we will talk about friendships and relationships and the integrity of your, "no." S2 Ep 4141. I Don’t Have to Be Overwhelmed?
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! Do you ever feel like your world is spinning so fast and you just aren’t quite sure how to get off this roller coaster called life? It’s like…how did I even get here in the first place. The teen years can be full of school, homework, jobs, sports, afterschool activities, church, family, friends…it’s honestly not surprising that we sometimes…or all the time…feel overwhelmed, stressed out, anxious…and yes, a lack of motivation. Too much can lead us to a not so fun place called overwhelm where we don’t even want to get out of bed anymore. You just want to throw the blankets over your head and go back to sleep for days. We lack motivation to do even the simplest of tasks. I remember hitting a time like this in my life. My life was spinning so fast that it seemed like every time I turned a corner something big was changing in my life. I finally hit a point where I didn’t even know what side was up. I remember singing Big Daddy Weave’s song, “Overwhelmed” all the time. Now, when Big Daddy Weave wrote that song, he was talking about how he was overwhelmed by how amazing our God is…for me…I would change the lyrics and sing it about my life. One lyric in the song says, “I’m overwhelmed. I’m overwhelmed by you.” Yep…that was me. I had hit major overwhelm and praise God, he helped me to overcome and step into real freedom. Do I still have a lot going on in my life…yes. However, I am no longer overwhelmed like I was before. Now, do I fight off the feeling of overwhelm from time to time, yes. I would be lying if I said I didn’t. But now, I find that if I am fighting overwhelm, I know that it no longer has power over my life. There will be times in your life when there will be a lot going on. That may be your life right now. So, with all that’s going on, how do we keep from hitting that place called overwhelm? And let me say this, too, maybe your schedule isn’t super busy, but there are some big things that maybe you and or your family are walking through and it’s causing you to be in a place of overwhelm, these things can help you as well. Psalm 61:1-4 talks about a time where King David hit that place of overwhelm...maybe you’ve been in a similar place. He’s crying out to God and saying, “Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint…or overwhelmed.” Then he says, “Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge (or my hiding place), a strong tower against my enemy." One thing David understands is that when he’s feeling overwhelmed, all he has to do is get with God and he knows that God will guide him out of that place. I love verse 2 where it says, “Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Have you ever been to the mountains and you were standing at the bottom of a cliff. You look up and all you see is this massive mountain that’s in front of you. There is no telling what’s on the other si Support the show Want a little extra sparkle this month? ✨ Grab your December Glow Mail and soak in God's Radiant Love for you! S2 Ep 4040. There is Hope
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! God is an expert at making a way even when there seems to be no way. Almost half of teens today say that they struggle with feelings of hopelessness. Isaiah 43:16-19-Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea and a path through the mighty waters, who brings forth the chariot and the horse, the army and the power (they shall lie down together, they shall not rise; they are extinguished, they are quenched like a wick): do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Do not remember the former things…what are the former things? The former things are the past mistakes that we bring up. All of the times that we thought we failed and has held us back. Those thoughts that you are nothing. Those thoughts that you will never be anything. Those thoughts that nothing will ever get better. Those thoughts that you will always struggle. Get rid of those thoughts…do not remember them any longer! Nor consider the things of old! It is time to change our thoughts. It’s time to renew our mind to what God says instead of giving up or giving in because of what we’re currently walking through. It's time to get your hopes up! But how do we get to that place of where we are no longer hopeless? Check out this week's episode to learn more! S2 Ep 3939. No Fear Here!
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! I used to be so addicted to fear…yep…I said it. I was addicted to fear. I was addicted to horror movies…I couldn’t wait until the next one came out. I went to haunted houses. Now looking back, it’s crazy to me just how addicting fear really is. It wasn’t until a couple years after I became a Christian that I had a conversation with another Christian about how I was going to watch the next horror movie that had come out and he looked at me…not in a judgmental way, but in a way that was just matter of fact. He said, “I don’t watch horror movies.” After I picked up my jaw off the floor because I was so surprised…ha-ha…I asked him why and I remember his response so clearly even to this day. He said, “I don’t understand why people intentionally invite fear into their lives when God tells not to fear.” That night changed my life! 2 Timothy 1:7 says that “God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and of a sound mind.” 1 John 4:18 then goes onto tell us that there is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out all fear, because fear involves torment. Whoever fears has not been perfected in love. What is love? 1 John 4:8 tells us that God is love. There is no fear in God, but God's perfect love casts out all fear! Fear is a liar! But fear is also very real. You may have heard of the acronym for fear that says, “False evidence appearing real.” That’s exactly what fear is. Fear is a tactic the enemy uses that is meant to paralyze us so that we are not effective in making a difference for Jesus. Three of the biggest fears we face: The fear of failure- The fear of missing out The fear of rejection Check out this week's UncommonTEEN Podcast episode to learn how you can overcome fear for good! S2 Ep 3838. God loves the Unlovely
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! Growing up, I saw myself as a reject. That word reject means to throw away, as anything useless or disgusting. Something that is despised. To cast away or abandon. My dad was very physically, mentally and verbally abusive toward me and my mom would leave for weeks at a time, leaving us to think that maybe this time she wasn’t coming back. It left me in a place where I felt unloved, unaccepted and rejected. Each one of us are born with a God-shaped hole in our hearts. We can try to fill it with all kinds of different things, but the only thing that actually fills that hole is God. For me, try to fill it with…friends, school, music, boyfriends, but no matter what I tried, nothing could satisfy my heart until I met Jesus. You may have heard me talk about this statistic before, but it is projected that only 4% of Gen Z is Bible believing Christians. Those who are between the ages of 10 and 25. So, if you think of the statistic, it looks like this…out of every 100 Gen Z’rs you see walking around in your city or your school, only 4 of them are projected to be Bible believing Christians. The average number of students in a public school in America is 500 students. If your school had 500 students, that means that only 20 of them are projected to be Bible believing Christians. That’s not a lot. According to another research that was recently done, that says 79% of Gen Zers reported feeling lonely. Ladies, this generation needs the hope that you have on the inside of you. Just because we see that statistic of 4% of your generation being Bible believing Christians, doesn’t mean that it has to stay that way! People need and want to know Jesus! Back in Jesus’ time Zacchaeus was considered to be the biggest reject of them all. Nobody liked him, because he was wicked to the core. But even as a reject…there was something on the inside of him that was empty…that wanted more. Zacchaeus was drawn to Jesus, because there was something different about Him. Jesus went out of His way to see Zacchaeus, the one person nobody wanted to see. Jesus went out of His way to let Zacchaeus know that God even loves Him…the one that everyone else rejected. S2 Ep 3636. If God is Good, Why Do Bad Things Happen?
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! If God is good, why do bad things happen? To answer this question, we have to first ask ourselves...is God really a good God? My answer...without a shadow of a doubt, yes!! We can also see in the Bible, God's character...and let me tell you, He is good! 1 Chronicles 16:34 says, "Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!" S2 Ep 3535. You are Beautiful
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! What is beauty? What makes it so enticing? I mean, some people will do anything just to discover beauty: from surgeries, to endless video tutorials online, to spending money they don’t have shopping for clothes that they think will make them beautiful. Is beauty defined by the culture or those around us? Is beauty only skin deep, or does it go much deeper than that? If we are looking to outward appearances only, culture and media are usually the ones who decide what beauty is. Look around you…what do you see on tv shows? Movies? In magazines? What are the newest fashion trends? Without even saying it, they determine the way we view beauty. Why do we fall for it? Some of us want to express our artistic nature. Some of us want to stand out in a crowd and become the most beautiful person around. Some of us want to just fit in…we don’t want to stand out in a crowd. We want to feel like we belong, so we use fashion to cover up the fear of being an outcast. In the day of technology, when we post pics on Instagram, we use filters and airbrushing to make ourselves look better. If you ever see a model in a magazine, you will see someone who looks so flawless, but that’s not reality. But what does God say about our beauty? Who does He say we are? S2 Ep 3434. I Forgive You
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! I forgive you…these can be some of the hardest words to say to someone, yet these three simple words are also some of the most powerful words that we could say…they have the ability to bring so much freedom into your life. What is forgiveness…many times when we think of the word forgiveness, we associate it with our emotions and our feelings…how we feel about someone and what they did to us, but did you know that forgiveness has nothing to do with our feelings or our emotions? Forgiveness is a choice. It is extending grace to someone even when they don’t deserve it…and many times, they don’t deserve it. Grace is not getting what we deserve, but getting what Jesus deserves. When we extend grace to someone, we are basically saying…what you did was wrong, but because Jesus has forgiven me, I will forgive you even though you don’t deserve it. And this might help you…you don’t have to even like the person who you are forgiving. Just because you forgive someone, doesn’t mean that you have to enter back into a friendship or a relationship with that person. Unforgiveness doesn’t hurt the person that hurt you…it only hurts you. So, how do we forgive? What does that look like? Before we get into that, let’s see what Jesus says about forgiveness. S2 Ep 3333. Breaking Free from Perfectionism
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! These week on the UncommonTEEN Podcast, we are talking about Breaking Free from Perfection. Many of us have the tendency to be perfectionistic. I know it's something that I struggled with my whole life and I talk to so many teen girls who struggle with it as well. Perfectionism can feel like it's suffocating us. It wears away your peace and robs you of joy. Perfectionism also keeps you from being the best version of you. When we focus so much on ourselves and the need to be perfect, we push God away and basically are saying that we don’t need Him, because we have this on our own. Perfection leads to anxiety and frustration, but God wants you free. Perfection leads you to feeling like you aren’t valuable or that you don’t measure up when you mess us. God tells us that we are valuable, not based on what we have or haven’t done, but based on what Jesus has done for us. Perfectionism is rooted in fear. Fear of rejection Fear of acceptance Fear of getting something wrong Fear of someone seeing the real you Check out this week's podcast episode to learn how you can break free from perfection! There will be principles you can take from this message and apply to your life. Ladies, there is always hope! With God, you can overcome! However, change doesn't happen until you make a decision to change! When I think of overcomers in the Bible, one person comes to mind. John 5:1-7- From Galilee, Jesus returned to Jerusalem to observe one of the Jewish feasts. Inside the city, near the Sheep Gate, there is a pool called in Hebrew, “Bethesda,” surrounded by five covered porches—the paralyzed, the blind, and the crippled—all of them waiting for their healing. For an angel of God periodically descended into the pool to stir the waters, and the first one who stepped into the pool after the waters swirled would instantly be healed. Among the sick people lying there was a man who had been disabled for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, He knew that the man had been crippled for a long time. Jesus said to him, “Do you truly want to be made well?” The sick man answered Him, “Sir, there’s no way I can get healed, for I have no one to lower me into the water when the angel comes. As soon as I try to crawl to the edge of the pool, someone else jumps in ahead of me.” The man saw himself as crippled and that there was no hope. He stayed stuck in his sickness, because of the excuses that he was making. However, when Jesus met him, now the man was finally ready to get rid of His excuses and Jesus was able to heal Him completely. For me, my teen years were some of the darkest years of my life. I didn’t feel loved or accepted. I hated who I was. I carried around so much pain. No matter where I looked, I couldn't find the one thing I was missing in life…love. It wasn’t until I met Jesus when I was 18 that I finally had a glimpse of hope. I wish I could say that in an instant, that things got better after I gave my life to the Lord, but they didn’t. It wasn’t until a couple years later that I began to realize that since I had given my life to Jesus, I was a new creation. I was no longer identified by my past. I could move forward. And the same thing goes for you. If you have given your life to Jesus, you have been made a new creation. You are no longer identified by the things that are holding you back. S2 Ep 2929. It Takes Courage!
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! I love how God can take common things and make them uncommon. I love how He can take ordinary things and make the extraordinary. Acts 4:13 says, "Now when they (the crowd) saw the boldness of Peter and John and saw that they were unlearned and untrained in the schools, they were common men with no educational advantages, the crowd marveled; and they recognized that Peter and John had been with Jesus!" Ladies, it doesn’t matter what grades you get. It doesn’t matter what other people think about you. God can use you! See, Peter and John were just common men, but because they spent time with Jesus, they were no longer common, now they were uncommon! I love that word uncommon…it means not common; rare; above the ordinary; exceptional; and remarkable! Ladies, that is you!! God has called you to be a light to this world. He has called you to be a light in your youth ministry. He has called you to be a light in your community. He has called you to be a light in your school. What it’s going to take in order to be that light, though, is spending time with Jesus and it’s also going to take courage. In order to fulfill God’s plan for your life, it’s going to take courage. The root word for courage comes from the French word, “Coeur” which means heart. It takes courage…it takes heart in order to fulfill God’s plan for you. To learn more, check out this week's episode! S2 Ep 2828. Discover Your God-Given Purpose by Being You!
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! Two of the biggest questions we all have in life are: Why am I here? And what is my purpose? We hear verses like Jeremiah 29:11, where God tells us that He has plans for our lives of good and not evil to give us a future and a hope. And Ephesians 2:10 where it says that we are God’s masterpiece, recreated in Christ Jesus for good works that were planned for us even before the world was formed. But how do we discover that purpose? How do we find out why we are here? Check out this week's podcast episode to learn how! Connect with Jamie! Sara has such a huge heart for Jesus and for reaching teens for the Lord. On this week's episode, Sara shares with you the message behind her new book, Stand Up, Stand Strong. In this book, she addresses the questions that are often causing confusion among Christian teens today: How do I navigate the LGBT+ issues as a Christian? How can I know who I am in such a "be yourself" world? How should I think about things like Critical Race Theory? Abortion? Transgenderism? Media? How can I apply biblical truth to the hot-button issues of today and remain faithful to God...even in an anti-Christian world? S2 Ep 2626. Setting Boundaries: Part 2
Have a question you want me to answer on the podcast? Ask Here! Hey ladies! We are on part 2 of our series on boundaries! When most people hear the word boundaries, they automatically think of something that is restrictive…it keeps them bound. It separates them from others. We think of them in a negative light. However, boundaries do more than keeping you in and keeping others out. Boundaries help others see who it is that you really are and what it is that you believe. Boundaries are not a negative thing. They are a good thing. Boundaries are a blessing! They give you security. They help you take responsibility for your life…your thoughts, your words, your actions…and you don’t have to take responsibility for others. That’s on them. Know that when God wants to bless someone, He uses people. When the enemy wants to hurt someone…he uses people. And let me tell you, there will be many opportunities he will use people to try to get you to do things you don’t want to do or become someone you don’t want to be. When we have boundaries in place, those people that the enemy uses, can’t shake us. Today, we are going to talk about 3 areas that as Christians we need to set boundaries in: In our friendships, in our relationships and in our social media. Connect with Us!
