138. If I was your Authority Brand Coach, This Is What I Would Do
Becoming a trusted authority in your industry isn't easy. It's a journey that requires consistent effort and the right actions. But because everyone's goals, resources, and backgrounds are unique, there's no one-size-fits-all approach to personal branding. The coaching industry adds another layer of complexity because it lacks regulation. Different strategists may focus on different things based on their background and expertise. However, there are essential elements that are crucial for effective personal branding, and focusing on the shiny marketing assets usually comes in way too early. Your personal brand is your reputation. To succeed in personal branding, you need to understand how you see yourself, how others see you, and where you want to go. This self-awareness is key to building a solid strategy. That's why I specialise in personal branding. With my clients, we don't just wait for the future to happen but we actively dessign and shape it. Whether it's building on strengths or forging a new path, strategic personal branding is about creating a future that matches your goals and dreams. In this episode, I cover the first 5 essential steps in developing a strategic roadmap to clarify and enhance your personal brand presence and profile: Define Your Brand Promise and Performance Develop Your Signature Framework Visual and Verbal Identity Development Visibility and Network Building Strategies Consistent Brand Communication and Delivery ___________ Want to become the Trusted Authority in your field by building and monetising your expertise? 137. Revolutionising Business Leadership with Advisory Boards [Louise Broekman]
Starting growing and scaling businesses certainly has never been easy. However, in the last few years we have seen increased complexities from cyber attacks to requirements to meet ESG standards and everything in between. And clearly the pressure on boards and leaders has increased. Now with that said, over the last few years also the importance and relevance of advisory boards has seen a big increase in the market, which is great to see. I'm so excited to be joined by the driving force and the trusted authority behind advisory boards. We are joined by Louise Broekman. Louise is the founder and CEO of the advisory board centre and I'm really excited to explore the topic of advisory boards, the role it plays and the future of leadership. In this interview we cover: 📌 What sets governance and advisory boards apart 📌 The roles and responsibilities of each and how they connect 📌 The key features of an effective advisory board structure 📌 Where advisory boards offer the most value in various sectors and situations 📌 Signs indicating when advisory boards might not offer the needed support 📌 ... and of course, how to get started! ___________ Want to become the Trusted Authority in your field by building and monetising your expertise? 136. Reputation Management Blueprint: Controlling Your Narrative
We live in a world filled with knowledge, data, and information, which levels the playing field and intensifies competition, one crucial factor sets you apart and positions you as the chosen one: your reputation. As the saying goes: Your reputation is your REP - the reason everyone pays you. It's not just about credibility; it's your currency, influencing how future decision-makers perceive and trust you. As Warren Buffett said: 'It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it.' If you think about that, you'll do things differently. Let's dive in to explore ways you can build, protect and control your reputation. Strategy 1: Face-to-Face / One-on-One relationships Invest time in building strong, face-to-face relationships because being with someone in person fast-tracks the trust and relationship building because we can see and observe how someone behaves, how they act and communicate. Personal connections and positive word-of-mouth play a significant role in attracting paying clients. However, don't confuse face-to-face with offline only. Video is the next best thing after being with someone in person and you can use it to send someone a personalised short message, add video to a proposal or shoot a short, 60 sec video that you use for social media where you let people get to know you, personally and professionally. Strategy 2: Professional associations When I research for my Trusted Authority framework what it takes to build and boost credibility, I found that there are only 3 ways to do so and I summarised them in the 3-O's: Own, on the go and others. Other people's reputation and credibility is often used to fast-track the trust building because we associate ourselves with someone who's already established a strong and trustworthy relationship with someone we want to get closer to. It may be that you join an industry body, that you volunteer at a professional association and become a member in networks where you can not only learn from but also find potential new clients, suppliers, partners or staff. So brand building by association is a great way to enhance your own credibility and improve your reputation! Strategy 3: Have A Plan for Conflict Resolution [Before You Need It] Conflicts, disputes and upset people happen. It's how we deal with them that makes all the difference. This is where a solid risk mitigation plan comes in - developed before you need it so the emotion is taken out of the equation and you can think clearly, you can align the language to your brand positioning and you can practice how you approach the situation. Every tough conversation is an opportunity to build stronger relationships when done right, meaning: when both parties can save faith. 135. Legally Branded: [How To] Protect Your IP The Right Way [Donna Patane]
TM, verified badges, digital certificates, and everything in between - it's safe to say that in today's world of abundant information, access to knowledge, and the rise of deep fakes, we're all searching for who's legit and who we can trust. This is where the legal side of branding steps in, and it's safe to say, it can be overwhelming. Figuring out what's what, where to start, and how to protect yourself and your intellectual property can be a real challenge. As we are going deeper into the topic of developing your signature frameworks around your IP and monetising it, we can't ignore the business and legal side of things. And if you think it's not crucial or relevant to you, think again because we're also talking about trademarking your name, aka your personal brand. There's no better person to shed some light on this usually quite dry topic of law than today's guest: Donna Patene. We crossed paths last year at the Tropical Innovations Festival in Cairns, where she served as the MC for my keynote and wowed the audience with her keynotes. Let me tell you - I've never heard anyone make law so fun and easy to understand. So, needless to say, Donna is the Trusted Authority on all things IP and trademark law for start-ups and scale-ups. Make sure to check out DRIPL - her business and connect with Donna on LinkedIn because she is one handy lady to know. In this conversation we cover: The difference between a business name and a trademark The changes we have seen over the last few years when it comes to protecting IP The type of IP you can and can't legally protect The difference between trademark, copyright, patents Signature frameworks: Can you trademark a process or framework or just the name? 129. Futures Thinking and Strategies for Tomorrow: A Futurist's Exploration of the World of Work [Dr. Elissa Farrow]
Who wouldn't love to have a glimpse into a crystal ball every now and then? 🔮👋 But the next closest thing to preparing for the future — with a more scientific aspect — is to talk to a futurist. And that's exactly what we do in this week's Trusted Authority - The Podcast interview. We're joined by Dr. Elissa Farrow, who specialises in working with companies and leaders to reimagine the future of their industry and business, assisting them in bridging the gap between the now and then. This conversation was beyond fascinating as we dove into aspects of this topic, feeling like we were opening a can of worms. In the end, we're not only facing more challenges but also more complex situations than ever before, without being able to follow a 'paint-by-the-numbers' approach, simply because we've never had to deal with these kinds of events before. But this is what we have to come to terms with: Disruption is the new normal and to prepare for what's next, we need to be able to anticipate and respond to change, no matter the role, profession or industry we are in. And the only way to reimagine what the future might look like is to learn and apply the art and science of futures thinking. Dr Elissa Farrow gives us a glimpse of how we can do that and a lot more: → The role of a futurist [and how to see what's ahead in 50+ years] → A recap of trends, changes and updates that shape what's next → What the future of work actually means and how it will look like → The impact of Ai and working in a hybrid [AI + Humans] world of work → Skills to focus on to future-proof careers and businesses → How to make decisions [without having all the answers] Connect with Dr Elissa Farrow on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drelissafarrow/ Visit her website over at: http://drelissafarrow.com ___________ Want to become the Trusted Authority in your field by building and monetising your expertise? 125. The Now, The Next and The New in AI [+ The Impact On The Future of Work] - Interview with Denver Naidoo
No matter which camp you find yourself in regarding AI—whether you're an enthusiast or a skeptic—one thing remains undeniable: artificial intelligence is shaping the future in ways we couldn't have imagined just a few years ago. With constant changes and evolution happening literally daily, there are, of course, numerous concerns and questions regarding its impact on skill sets, careers, and industries. In this episode, we are joined by someone who not only stands at the forefront of leveraging AI to shape the future of work but is actively creating it. Our guest this week is Denver Naidoo, the founder of Zeligate, which officially launched its brand in Las Vegas in October 2023. And yes, if you've been following me on LinkedIn, that was the reason I was there too. The truth is, the future is AI, and it is both exciting and complex. I firmly believe that the genie is out, and there's no turning back. Instead of fearing or, even worse, resisting the change that is already happening, I am fully committed to being proactive in figuring out how we can best integrate it into our daily lives. If you haven't had a look at Zeligate yet, make sure to check it out. While we are currently in beta, the waitlist is quickly filling up, and as you might know, there is always limited access to early innovation like this. Now, before we dive into the interview with Denver Naidoo to explore the current state of AI, as well as his insights on its future trajectory, impact on careers, skill sets, and industries, ethics in AI, and how it will revolutionize education, let me provide some background. Denver and I have known each other for nearly a decade. We initially crossed paths through a company where he held the position of Head of Architecture, and I was engaged as a consultant to assist them in developing their brand and marketing strategy. Between then and now, Denver has founded and successfully exited multiple startups, serving as an architect and senior technology leader over the past two decades. Since childhood, Denver has maintained a passion for emerging technologies, a passion he carried throughout his career, including completing his Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from London. Inspired by the potential for technology to unlock more of our human potential, Denver developed expertise in AI and machine learning, which ultimately sparked the vision for Zeligate. As the CTO of Zeligate, Denver is determined to use AI to empower people to be the best they can be. We live in a knowledge economy where information is not only easily accessible to almost everyone but is also free. This trend has turned titles and credentials into commodities and means that we now face increased competition in the traditional employment space. Not only that - there's also been an increase in experienced professionals looking to monetise their expertise and experience, stepping out of traditional employment for various reasons and into into the consulting and coaching industry. Both sectors are growing rapidly, which is fantastic, but the increased supply has made it more challenging to stand out. Yes - it's your personal brand for sure, meaning - your reputation in the market but it's even more so your signature framework that you connect with it. Especially in professions like coaching or consulting, having a transparent process or method is what not only builds trust but creates predictability of results as well as repeatability. 116: Redefining Traditional Roles: Providing Value in a Changing Landscape [+ BTS Of My Biz & Career Journey] - Part 1
Over the last few weeks the focus has been on pivoting, reinventing and shifting gears and that's been for a reason because I'm in the midst of my 4th pivot and only slowly getting a clearer picture as to what it is. So I wanted to set the scene, start the conversion and taking a leave out of my own book and work out loud. Now I haven't quite worked out as loud as I would usually do it myself, simply because I still tried to figure things out and get clearer with my own words and set ups etc myself Now I'm excited to share that, especially the last couple of weeks, have given me a lot of clarity because I spoke to my mentors, gathered feedback and also made it public in front of selected groups, like a business community that I joined last year and became now an alumni so the alumni lunch actually was the first time I said out loud what i was thinking and the support and offer to help that I got in form of introductions, things to look out for etc have been beyond amazing. And since it has been a while since I did a BTS episode and also shared a bit about my journey and how i personally and professionally prepare for what's ahead, I thought it'd be the perfect opportunity to bring an interview that I recently had with the fabulous JR Lowry for his podcast show called the Career Sessions, Career Lessons. It's a long interview so it's a 2 part episode. 115. Trust as Currency: Strategies For Success in the Trust Economy [Interview with Michelle Hughes]
Did you know that the level of trust is directly correlated with your profitability, especially when you're in a serviced based profession? And: it's now meaurable and trackable. This week's episode will give you mindblowing insights from a research this week's guest conducted as part of her MBA studies and trust me when I say: you want to take notes because trust is becoming the competitive advantage [in pretty much every industry and profession]. Why? Because whilst everyone is still talking about us being in the knowledge economy, what I'm already excited about is the next iteration thanks to the rise of AI, deep fakes and their likes - the trust economy. In the end, whether we engage someone or not - may it be a person, a company or brand comes down to how much we trust. But it doesn't stop there - trust also impacts the profitability and likelihood of being sued and prosecuted. However, it has been hard to proof and make it measurable - until now because today's guest has done ground breaking work as part of her MBA program where she researched trust in professional services, in particular for lauders. Michelle Hughes is this week's guest and for those who haven't had the pleasure to connect with her yet, do yourself a favour and reach out to her. Not only is she an accomplished Executive Leader, with a decade of expertise in steering growth, innovation, team development, process efficiency, client experience, and quality behind her but she has also held the pivotal position of Chief Marketing Officer at McCarthy Durie Lawyers, where she orchestrated firm revenue, spearheaded innovation, and ensured rigorous compliance. Her track record is punctuated by the successful implementation of automated customer feedback systems, with new development on AI and CRM integrations, and the achievement of substantial revenue growth milestones. This conversation delivers the goods and you may want to listen it a couple of times as Michelle's findings are beyond fascinating and a good wake up call for professional services to prepare for this next trust economy. 114. Mastering LinkedIn Branding for Businesses and Teams
Leaders realise the importance and value of turning their employees into brand ambassadors and elevate the company brand through personal brands. However, a common concern that comes up is the worry pretty much every company addresses with me: that their staff's LinkedIn profiles were attracting recruiters and their talents are getting poached left, right and center. First things first- It's a very common challenge that many businesses face but doesn't have to be when done right. In this episode, I share the 3 distinct levels to your organisation's LinkedIn strategy and how everyone's role should be reflected online to get to the desired goals: Level 1: External-Facing Force - Your sales and business development champs. They're the ones who connect your products and services with the customer. Think business-to-business as well as individual sales professionals whose role is to get new customers on board and would be the one who're attending client meetings, pitches and delivering presentations. Their main audience are - you guessed it - decision makers in company's your organisation is targeting and they want to see everything but statements like 'exceeded sales targets in 2023 by xx%' and therelike. Noone wants to be part of another trophy or become a statistic so we need to focus on the experience those people would have, what makes your sales and BD force different to work with and also - what makes this particular person unique? This is where hobbies can come in but also personal stories and achievements like climbing Mt Everest or selling lemonade from the age of 8 years etc. This is where you can be intentional with the story you choose that supports the individual's position in the organisation Level 2: People Leaders, Managers and the Executive Powerhouse - Whilst the main audience for your external facing team is future clients and customers, the role that people leaders and managers play on LinkedIn is to not only be a brand ambassador for the products or services the company offers but also to attract and recruit the best talents. Especially the younger generations of talents are looking to work for leaders who they can learn from who they look up to and who they aspire to be and be associated with. In terms of content - it should be a mix between educational content for the products/services but also a 'behind the scenes' - how meetings are conducted at the organisation, how values are lived as a team, how individuals are getting rewarded and recognised for their contribution etc. People at this level are also responsible to create and nurture industry partnerships and adding credibility to the organisation as decision-makers still check who's ultimately responsible. In the end, we simply want to translate the role we play in our day-to-day online because as a leader and manager, your role is to get the best out of people and by focusing on the individuals, may it be through internal recognitions, promotions, pay rises and there likes, we want to do the same online. Having said that- there is a function on LinkedIn which I don't recommend - not only because I absolutely hate it but also because I've never seen anyone nailing it or getting much traction. It's the 'recognise co-worker' sticker which is so generic and couldn't be further away from a personalised recognition. It may be just me and you've had a different experience. In this case, send me a DM and let me know what and why it worked because I always love to be proven wrong. Level 3: The CEO- A CEO's profile is incredibly important and has multiple functions: From adding credibility to potential customers and clients to attracting the best talents to contributing insights to the wider industry as well as sharing the company's vision (which in return attracts potential customers, clients and talents) rather than just sharing current projects and updates, being the one who introduces new projects which also helps to build goodwill with an audience when you take them on the journey, explain the rationale behind the decisions and the impact it will have or not have. It's basically risk mitigation and crisis management before it happens and I work with a lot of emerging and advanced tech leaders especially in the AI, crypto and NFT space who are or will be facing push back for one or many reasons. This brings me to the last point - content and communications strategy. Optimsing your LinkedIn profile is one thing but driving traffic to it through content to increase your reach is another. However, reach isn't everything. But relevance is and this is where cut through content comes in. If your posts starts with 'really excited to be here at conference xx' - or 'great opportunity to join the team' - stop right there. These bland posts haven't worked since the early 2000's so don't waste your time and energy on them. Add some flair and flavour by explaining the backstory, sharing a behind the scenes photo of the team, celebrating your teams or

113. Scale Your Personal Brand(ed) Business - The Right Way, aka: With A Team [Interview with Lyra Almoite]
Building a personal branded presence or personal branded business doesn't mean you have to do it alone and you definitely don't have to do it all. Truth told- I've had support for many years across various aspects, from designing content to setting up systems, automating workflows, building sales funnels, … you name it, I probably had help and today I'm very excited to bring on the powerhouse who's making this magic happen - Lyra Almoite is joining us in this episode. Whilst her official role is an OBM (online business manager which we talk about in the episode what that even is), I'd consider her more of a team member and part of the furniture because not only do I trust her and her team 100% but her leadership skills are next level [and she is definitely someone we all can learn from]. I point out a couple of profound things she said in the conversation when it comes to building a team, scaling your impact and getting results that go above and beyond the job description - so whether you're in a corporate leadership role or you're building your own team, you will get a lot out of this conversation. 112. The Power of Building an Ecosystem for Your Personal, Business, and Leadership Brand
Where to focus first - your personal brand or your business brand, especially when it comes to monetising your IP? What's the difference between your executive brand and leadership brand? And how can you best build an ecosystem of all of the above to create ripple effects from one to the other? This and a lot more is what we cover in this episode. Personal Brand: This is all about who you are as an individual – your values, beliefs, strengths, and the unique qualities that make you stand out. It's the perception people have of you as a person and I always say it's the basics, the nitty and gritty and yes- the unsexy part of building your presence because it involves asking [yourself] all the tricky to answer questions, the questions no one else asks you when you grow up like what's important to you, what do you believe in, what should other people remember about you, and so forth. But when we have this aspect sorted, the rest - aka the marketing of your point of difference is the easy part. Leadership Brand: Still starts with your personal brand as you aren't [and shouldn't] be 2 different personas in your professional and your personal life but since your responsibilities are different and the type of people you're with are different, your own behaviour needs to be different. However, the actions you take still need to be in alignment with your personal brand as otherwise, you will burn out if you always try to push uphill [meaning: you're always trying to be someone you're not or lobby for something you don't believe in]. You can do it but a) only for so long and b) people can sense it when you don't fully stand behind your actions. So your leadership brand is all about how you lead, inspire, and influence others to get to a certain outcome. Executive Brand: executive branding goes beyond the tactical, day-to-day aspect of leadership and role/ organisation. It's more focused on you establishing yourself as a strategic leader through your content, building a community, showing up online or at events etc. Company Brand: Finally, the company brand is the public face of your organisation or the organisation you work for – its values, products, services, and reputation in the market. This is the sum of people work in an organisation, making up the culture that has then a certain reputation. ___________ Want to become the Trusted Authority in your field by building and monetising your expertise? 111. How To Package And Monetise Your IP [Interview with Matthew Mason]
There are 2 ways how you can monetise your personal brand - either through building a community and giving other people access to it aka leveraging the exposure of brands to an audience that you've grown and nurtured and either doing bonded deals or affiliate marketing. Or: and this is what I'm passionate about: systemising, packaging and monetise your IP by building a portfolio of income streams, all based on the results you can get through your signature framework, process or method. Now if camp 2 interests you because you're at a point in your career where sharing your wisdom is becoming a priority and/or you want to scale your service based business through different formats how people can work with you, today's episode is for you! 110. How To Use LinkedIn In 2023 To Build Your Brand Or Business
In this day and age, most first interactions happen online and it's not just the presence of the bad but also the absence of the good that forms the perception we have about others, meaning: if we can't find someone or their profiles are outdated, we immediately form an option about this person and draw conclusions along the line that they are not up to date or their skills are not up to date and so forth. And whilst there is so much conversation and controversial discussion around whether social media is good or bad, a waste of time, truth told: it can be an extremely effective tool (if used correctly) to build your presence proactively, to take control over the narrative and with that, the perception people have about you which then shaped the types of opportunities that come to you (or not). I've experienced that many times over - mainly through LinkedIn these days but I also had big successes for my coaching business early on, being proactive in Facebook groups. Lots has changed since then … clearly but the question is - how do you use social media, more specifically LinkedIn to your advantage, to build your brand and business without being overwhelmed and spending hours on the platform? This is exactly what this episode is all about. It is a recording from a workshop that I recently hosted and as it was a paid workshop, it's not the full recording but you will still get a good understanding and hopefully some very tactical tips tricks and tools how you can make Linkedin work for you! ___________ Want to become the Trusted Authority in your field by building and monetising your expertise? This is part 2/2 of a mini-series on career reinvention and redeign. In part 1 (epi 106), we discussed the 5 most common reasons that justify a career change or pivot. If you haven't listened yet, I'd highly recommend to do so because everyone gets in a funk, everyone gets annoyed sooner or later with their team members, their bosses, their projects and tasks. That doesn't mean it's time to hand in the resignation and storm off. As we know, any type of changes are hard and come with a ton of challenges so you want to be sure you do it for the right reason. Once you know though that it is time for a change, it comes down to being strategic about it and also intentional with the steps you take as in the end, a job search or business repositioning is a massive undertaking and time- and energy consuming. This episode gets granular with the tactics on how to transition into your next chapter: Take a step back and get clear on your unique value proposition. 107. Redefining Leadership: How To Be Quietly Powerful [Interview with Megumi Miki]
Leadership has changed over time and continues to evolve as we're seeing so many shifts and changes in the economy and world of work. However, most of us still think of leaders are those loud, extraverted and very confident, charismatic people. Until today because this week's interview and insights will show you that there is power in being quiet. Megumi Miki is joining us to share some of her insights and findings of her research of and work with executive leaders and teams where she challenges the status quo in leadership to unlock the hidden talent and collective potential. Megumi Miki is an author, speaker and consultant in leadership, culture and diversity and inclusion, with a background in strategy, economics and finance. She has supported a diverse range of clients, including government agencies, non-profits, and multinational corporations and speaking at a range of conferences. She is best known for her book "Quietly Powerful: How Your Quiet Nature is Your Hidden Leadership Strength," which challenges conventional assumptions about what it takes to be a successful leader. The book received the Australian Career Book Award for 2020 from RSA Oceania and Best Leadership Book of 2020 from the Australian Business Book Awards. Drawing on her personal experiences and working with leaders from diverse backgrounds and industries, Megumi offers a fresh perspective on the qualities that enable quiet individuals to be effective and impactful leaders. 105. The Future Of Trust [Interview with Severin de Wit]
Trust is an interesting concept. It's invisible, it's intangible and yet, it is THE most important aspect when it comes to human interactions and relationships which are the foundations for everything beyond that. The way how we build, manage and rebuild trust has changed and continues to evolve. So naturally, questions come up, like: What is the future of trust? How will it be reflected in Web4.0? And how to rebuild trust once it's breached? This [and a whole lot more] is the focus of this week's episode where we're joined by Severin de Wit who's been exploring trust since 2020 through his podcast TrustTalks where he discusses the multifaceted nature of trust with an incredible variety of guests. Prior to that, he was an attorney in prominent law firms. In this episode, we dive deep into the importance of trust in our relationships, how it has evolved over time, and practical ways to build and maintain trust, whether on an individual or organizational level. Severin shares valuable insights on different types of trust, from interpersonal to institutional trust. We also uncover the secrets to bridging the gap between academic research and public perception, using relatable language, storytelling metaphors, and analogies that resonate with everyone. Last but not least - we also open pandora's box by discussing the process of rebuilding trust after it has been breached. Severin highlights three crucial elements: a sincere apology, transparency in revealing the cause of the breach, and proactive measures to prevent future mistakes. Real-world examples, including PwC's restoration of trust after the Oscars incident, will provide valuable lessons. 99. Coaches Corner: Reflection on Q1, Lessons Learned, Changes In The Market And Where To Focus On In Q2
Have you ever wanted to be a fly on the wall and listen in to what coaches talk about when they get together? Well, today is your lucky day! Because the coaches corner is back! The idea of getting together 3 coaches - who also happen to be very close friends beyond work - came to life early January as the regular catch ups we had over the last nearly 2 years with the 2 incredible ladies, Dr Maike Neuhaus and Leanne Hughes always sparks new ideas, energy and insights for me. Unlucky for me (and lucky for Maike), she's currently travelling the world with her family so our regular in person catch ups between the 3 of us (which happened to be late long and lunches) are on hold for now. Whilst Leanne and I are still catching up regularly for walks & talks and yes, also still for long lunches, I thought of an excuse to arrange regular chat amongst the 3 of us and so the coaches corner was born. The conversations are always full of gold, so it would be selfish to hold back on those conversations 🤓 In this week's conversation, we catch up on the first quarter for 2023 where we reflect on experiences we had in the first 3 months, personally and professionally and based on what we've seen and trends we're closely monitoring, what's ahead and how to prepare for it. Trust me- you will love this episode, wether know one or all of us or you've never been in our world. 98. Investment In Your Personal and Professional Growth - The Why, When and In What Behind Making Investments
The only constant we have in this more complex world of work we live in is change so staying ahead of the curve, learning and growing your mind-, skill-, and tool set is a non-negotiable. However, especially most recently with so much conversation going on around AI and how technology can already replace certain skill sets, professions and disrupts industries, the question is: where, when and in what should you invest in to maximise your output? This is what this episode is all about as I discuss the different types of investment to make as you progress in your career. In a nutshell, they are: Early stage career (either straight after leaving Uni and/or changing careers entirely): expose yourself to as many different options (projects, tasks, environments, people, industries etc) as possible so you get a holistic understanding of the industry/profession. Attend specialised conferences and events to hone in on your technical skills. Mid-level career: start developing your parallel skill set that focuses on high level strategic thinking, persuasive communication and relationship/ network building. Senior-level career: time to give back by sharing your knowledge through either more traditional opportunities like guest lecturing at Unis but also by creating your own content (paid and unpaid) as well as collaborating with other senior professionals to curate new and advanced knowledge. 93. 3 Secrets of Highly Confident, Cut Thorough and Captivating Speakers [Steal Professional Speaker's Secrets]
While we all can speak, giving a keynote presentation or facilitate a strategy day or run transformational workshops is a different level of speaking. There is a good reason why keynote speakers have a higher rate than trainers or facilitators who educate on a certain framework or teach a specific methodology. Keynotes and pitches are designed to change minds, to inspire to take actions and to leave the long-lasting impression that triggers referrals, testimonials and of course, the required action you want participants to leave with. For some it might be to buy into a new idea and get funding for it. For others it might be to enrol in a program when a coach or consultant speaks. For others it's the team buy in for the company's vision, so they give their discretionary effort. Whatever your goal, there are a few elements that make speaker remark- and rememberable and if your goal is to become the Go-To, the Trusted Authority in your field, (which I'm assume you're because why would you listen to this otherwise?), then this is what you want to focus on: Learn to control your emotions Confident speakers believe in their message Connect studies with stories ___________ Want to become the Trusted Authority in your field by building and monetising your expertise?
