98. Investment In Your Personal and Professional Growth - The Why, When and In What Behind Making Investments

The only constant we have in this more complex world of work we live in is change so staying ahead of the curve, learning and growing your mind-, skill-, and tool set is a non-negotiable. However, especially most recently with so much conversation going on around AI and how technology can already replace certain skill sets, professions and disrupts industries, the question is: where, when and in what should you invest in to maximise your output? This is what this episode is all about as I discuss the different types of investment to make as you progress in your career. In a nutshell, they are: Early stage career (either straight after leaving Uni and/or changing careers entirely): expose yourself to as many different options (projects, tasks, environments, people, industries etc) as possible so you get a holistic understanding of the industry/profession. Attend specialised conferences and events to hone in on your technical skills. Mid-level career: start developing your parallel skill set that focuses on high level strategic thinking, persuasive communication and relationship/ network building. Senior-level career: time to give back by sharing your knowledge through either more traditional opportunities like guest lecturing at Unis but also by creating your own content (paid and unpaid) as well as collaborating with other senior professionals to curate new and advanced knowledge.
