On this episode I chatted with Ali Khalafalla who is an Egyptian Olympic swimmer. He represented his country at the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He placed 23rd in the 50 Freestyle, in Rio 2016. In Tokyo 2020, he placed 24th in the same event. A feat that has never been accomplished in Egypt's history. After breaking the Egyptian record that stood strong for 22 years, he set a new Egyptian record in California in 2017 which paved the way to become the fastest Egyptian swimmer in Egypt's history with a time of 22.12. He further took Egypt's sprint swimming further after he clocked his personal best in Tarragona, Spain at the 2018 Mediterranean Games. Thus becoming the first and only Egyptian to break the 22 second barrier in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.97 seconds. in 2021, the best time and Egyptian record in the 50 meters freestyle was lowered and currently stands at 21.94. On this episode I chatted with Larry Nichols, an Oklahoman who has made quite the impact on our state. Oklahoma native J. Larry Nichols was born and raised in Oklahoma City and graduated from Casady School (1960) before receiving his geology degree from Princeton University (1964) and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Michigan (1967). Nichols served as a Special Assistant to Assistant Attorney General William Rehnquist in the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. and was a Law Clerk to Chief Justice Earl Warren and Justice Tom Clark of the U.S. Supreme Court. He co-founded Devon Energy Corporation with his father, John, in 1970 and was named president of the company in 1976 and chief executive officer in 1980. He has served on many community boards including the OKC Chamber of Commerce, Allied Arts, Oklahoma Foundation for the Humanities, Casady School, and Mercy Health Center. Among his honors are the Dean A. McGee Award (1997) and the Independent Petroleum Association’s Leadership Award (1997). Thanks to our sponsors. On this episode I sat with former Governor of Oklahoma Frank Keating. Frank grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and a law degree from the University of Oklahoma. His 30-year career in law enforcement and public service included service as an FBI agent, U.S. Attorney and state prosecutor, and Oklahoma House and Senate member, including service as a Republican senate leader. He served Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush in the Treasury, Justice, and Housing departments. As Governor, Keating won national acclaim in 1995 for his compassionate and professional handling of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building in Oklahoma City. In the aftermath of the tragedy, he raised more than six million dollars to fund scholarships for the nearly 200 children left with only one or no parents. Keating currently serves as a regent for the University of Oklahoma and lives with his wife Cathy in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They have three children and eleven grandchildren. On this episode I chatted with former First Lady Cathy Keating. Cathy is a fourth-generation Oklahoman with a focus on community service. While First Lady she planned and organized the International Prayer Service and published In Their Name, which was listed on the New York Times bestseller list, following the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. She founded Friends of the Oklahoma Governor’s Mansion, Septemberfest, and the Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, as well starting the tradition of an annual Oklahoma ornament. She raised private funds to build the Phillips Pavilion on Governor’s Mansion grounds and conceived and implemented a grounds management program for female inmates to learn a marketable job skill. On this episode I chatted with OKC local Gabriel Lewis about his absolute LOVE for cooking. Starting at a young age, Gabriel Lewis began cooking and understanding the art of food. He spent his free time throughout the course of his teenage years in the kitchen, learning from his mother Lisa, Aunt Gertrude and Grandmother Valerie cooking different proteins and testing different flavor combinations. As administrator of behavioral health services for ODMHSAS, she oversees and coordinates all aspects of behavioral health services for children, youth, young adults, and families across the state. Ms. Williams has overseen Oklahoma’s System of Care (OKSOC) expansion from a 17-county program serving children ages 5-18, to a statewide program serving individuals ages 0-25 across all of Oklahoma’s 77 counties. On this episode I chatted with C4 and Scott Mabrey of Mabrey Bank. The Mabrey family’s ownership of the bank is a story that began long before it became the community bank people know today. The Mabrey family has been involved in banking since 1906, when G. W. Mabrey served on the Board of Directors for Citizens National Bank of Okmulgee. In 1909, Carlisle Mabrey Sr. became a teller and assistant cashier for the bank. He worked at the bank for many years and in 1943 was named Chairman of the Board. Carlisle Mabrey Jr. bought a controlling interest in the bank in 1966 and became President and Chairman of the Board that same year. After acquiring Citizens Security Bank and Trust Company in Bixby, founded in 1924, the Mabrey family combined the organizations in 2004 bringing together two strong community banks that had been serving Oklahomans for nearly 180 combined years.
