On this episode I chatted with former Oklahoma State Cowboy and NFL Lineman Kenyatta Wright. Kenyatta is from Vian Oklahoma. He was a four-year starter for Oklahoma State, where he recorded 260 career tackles, 11 sacks, and 1 fumble recovery. He was signed as a free agent in 2000 by the Buffalo Bills and then to the Jets from 2003 til his retirement in 2006. Kenyatta returned home to Vian. To coach at his old high school, to be with his family and to build his life back in Oklahoma where it began. Kenyatta Wright is also helping his NFL brotherhood as President of the Oklahoma Chapter of NFLPA Former Players. On this episode I chatted with Oklahoma Architectural Photographer Mel Willis about her journey through the years and how she fell into photography. Mel's Bio: "I discovered photography while in my hometown, Kansas City, shortly after graduating high school; I received my first 35mm camera as a graduation gift from my dad. In Oklahoma City, my current home, I honed my photography skills while studying visual communication in college. Landscapes, travel, events, family, portraiture … over the years I exposed myself to these and other photography styles, but none of them ever resonated with me. As a lover of design, I accepted a job working for a local architecture and engineering firm, which first introduced me to the challenge and reward of capturing architecture and interiors. I traveled the United States and Canada to document the firm’s designs for use in marketing, branding, and award submissions. My responsibilities for the firm grew to include graphic design, visual branding, and web design, but those same expanded responsibilities took me further away from my one true calling. And so after nearly eleven years in the industry I made the difficult but confident decision to step out on my own and devote my time and energy to architectural photography. When I’m not photographing, I spend my time hosting CreativeMornings/Oklahoma City where we encourage, cultivate, and grow a culture of creativity throughout our city. I am a lifelong traveler, and seek to balance my destinations between outdoor escapes and exploring some of the great architecture in communities and cities around the world." On this episode I chatted with Oklahoma model and future actress Madison Sells. Madison grew up in Oklahoma in Woodward and then later in Piedmont Oklahoma. Madison is a small-town Oklahoma girl, has spent over a decade working as a full-time model in the fashion industry since the age of 13. Madison signed with a local agent in Oklahoma City as a young teen, and quickly catapulted to the top of the industry. At age 14, Madison moved overseas and worked in Singapore and Tokyo, after signing an exclusive worldwide contract with the world's largest modeling agency, IMG Models. Madison continued to work overseas in the Asian markets to establish a foundation for her official career launch in New York City. It was during this time Madison graced multiple covers of high fashion magazines, such as Elle, Style, and Female, as well as work with Giorgio Armani, Converse, Mulberry, and Vogue. After turning 18, Madison officially moved to New York City, where she catapulted her career to a new level of clientele. On this episode I chatted with Cowgirl golfer Isabella Fierro about her first couple of years in Stillwater. One of the most highly touted recruits in Cowgirl golf history, Fierro was ranked No. 35 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings on signing day and has been ranked as high as No. 28. Isabella ended her sophomore year with the best career stroke average in program history at 71.44. She also set the scoring record. Won the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational – just her third career event – in record-breaking fashion. On this episode I chatted with Vilona Michael from VMarketing here in OKC. Vilona is from East India. Her parents moved here in the 60's for a better life. On the way over here her father met a man from Kingfisher Oklahoma and so that is where her family settled. Vilona has a wonderful story, going against cultural norms being raised by Indian parents expecting marriage, kids and prioritizing education. Vilona put herself through university at TU. Graduating with a marketing degree and starting at a huge agency in Tulsa before moving to OKC. Vilona's business kicked off after she volunteered at a meeting for the new Uptown 23rd district. On this episode I chatted with Mike Shepherd of Shepherd Oil in Blackwell Oklahoma. "Shepherd Oil Company was founded in 1949 by Robert F. Shepherd, starting with a service station in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Mr. Shepherd built the business into a bulk wholesale jobbership with Champlin Refining and continued operating a state of the art service station thru the mid 1960’s. He later purchased a Phillips 66 bulk jobbership, expanding into wholesale deliveries to the oilfields, agricultural, and industrial markets in northern Oklahoma. On this episode I chatted with return guest ( episode 30 ) Jeremie Kubicek. Jeremie is a business builder and has a fascinating path back to Oklahoma. Most of which we covered in out first interview in 2018! Jeremie began his career fresh out of college, by starting the Moscow Economic School and a marketing consulting business in Moscow, Russia with a group of colleagues. On this episode I chatted to musician Donovan Funk. Donovan creates alternative rock inspired by Kings of Leon, Jeff Buckley, Tom Petty, and Tor Miller; both in lyricism and musical expression. He started playing guitar at an early age, learning classic rock riffs that he heard while forming early memories with his dad. After his teen years he rediscovered his love for the instrument and began building songs based around what he could learn from the internet. Donovan Funk is currently working on an album in his home studio writing and recording original compositions to share with the world via streaming services and live performances. Using intuition and classical training from school orchestra, Donovan Funk is able to include a multitude of instrument to his productions such as bass, drums, keyboard, and cello. On this episode I chatted with Jim Connelly about his family business which was established in 1907. The company was founded by Andy and Morgan Connelly in September 1907 in El Reno, Oklahoma. The brothers emigrated from County Cork, Ireland to Oklahoma. In fact, they came to Oklahoma just before it became a state (Oklahoma became the 46th state in the United States November 16, 1907). The Rock Island Railroad has its headquarters in El Reno and at that time the railroad was the major means of transportation. They constructed many brick streets, bridges, and did work for the Rock Island Railroad. Connelly Paving Company constructed the first highway in the state of Oklahoma from Bartlesville to Dewey, which was approximately 6.5 miles. Since the days back in El Reno, Connelly Paving moved a few times and currently headquarters in Oklahoma City. Connelly Paving works with general contractors all around the central Oklahoma region. We are a fifth generation family business that has operated within the central Oklahoma region for over 100 years. On this episode I chatted with Tulsa native Garrett Mills. Garrett played football for Jenks Highschool before committing to TU where his father played. His Junior / Senior year he realized that the NFL was a possibility and set his sights on the draft. Drafted by The Patriots Garretts NFL career had begun. After years in the league and a few different teams Garrett decided it was time to step away. He was accepted into the Kellogs School of Management and after graduating moved to Dallas to work for Goldman Sachs. Not enjoying his job as much as he thought, his friend and founder of RibCrib offered him the opportunity to move back to Tulsa and work for them. Garrett is now the CEO of RibCrib, in his time they have launched a new concept called Society Burger and plan to launch a Taco concept soon. On this episode I chatted with Calyn Adams and Mrs Janee Jacobs about their business Sweet Spirit Foods. These ladies have a passion that burns so deep. A business created to raise money for their church and love for their community. Sweet Spirit Foods was established in July of 2002 under the vision and leadership of Dr. Jayel Jacobs Jr., Pastor of the Christian Life Missionary Baptist Church and the administrative direction of the late Mrs. Joyce Jacobs and Janee. It began with a Snowie building at 4621 NE 23rd Street. Later, mobile food trucks were added which made food deliveries all over the metropolitan area of Oklahoma City. Our first restaurant was opened in Langston, Oklahoma. The Sweet Spirit Foods family soon multiplied and at one time we had four mobile food trucks, four snowie buildings, two restaurants, a convenience store and a car wash. Our product line started with mild, medium and hot barbecue sauce.We now have 80 products carried under the Sweet Spirit Foods label. Our products have become family favorites all across the country.We have acquired loyal customers through local and out of state craft shows, state fairs, Farmers Markets, grocery store demos and even going door to door. On this episode I chatted with Lance about HIA and what the plan is for its future. In October 2012, Lance founded Hope is Alive Ministries (HIA) in Oklahoma City. Under Lance’s leadership, HIA has grown from one home and five residents to 21 homes with over 200 residents working hard to radically change their lives. HIA’s success rate is unheard of, with over 85% of all graduates successfully living the life God called them to live. What is HIA? After getting cut from his high school basketball team he picked up a camera and asked his coach if he could stay around and create content. Joshua quickly found his passion, as soon as he got his car he traveled to every game and others in the city. Capturing the states best high school basketball players. On this episode I chatted with Saundra Traywick about How Donkey milk saved her daughters health. "Milking donkeys was never one of the goals for our life, but sometimes God throws a wrench in our best laid plans. And in the end, it all works out for the good." In 2014 Saundra's 6 year old daughter was diagnosed with PANDAS disease.(Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disease Associated with Strep Throat) Doctors prescribes antibiotics for the next 13 years! Saundra stubbornly refused to accept this as the answer and went on the hunt for a cure. This is were donkey milk comes in. In other countries, donkey milk is well known for it's health benefits, but in America it was practically unheard of, made even more difficult to find since the donkey only gives a few ounces of milk a day, and only with a healthy baby to share the milk with.
