On February 26, 2016, Terry Sanderson was skiing at Deer Valley Resort in Park City Utah. That same day, Gwyneth Paltrow, her significant other, and their children were also skiing there. Just before noon, Terry and Gwyneth collided on the hill. Three years later, Terry Sanderson filed a lawsuit against the actor turned lifestyle influencer for $300,000 in damages. Gwyneth Paltrow countersued for $1. The case went to trial in 2023 to determine who was at fault for their ski hill collision. Thirteen-year-old Hailey Dunn went missing from her home two days after Christmas in Texas in 2010. She remained a missing person until her remains were found in 2013. Serving as a sheriff's deputy in Martin County, Florida, Gerard Schaefer led a double life, portraying himself as a dedicated officer while secretly engaging in gruesome acts. Schaefer was convicted of the first degree murders of two young women, Susan Place and Georgia Jessup. Investigators suspect that Schaefer was responsible for as many as thirty murders from the late 60s to the early 70s before his arrest and eventual conviction. In the early morning of March 4th, 2022, 33-year-old Kouri Richins called 911 from her home in Kamas, Utah. She said that she’d come back into the bedroom she shared with her 39-year-old husband Eric to find him cold and unresponsive. First responders arrived, but were unable to revive Eric. The father of three was pronounced dead. His autopsy later revealed that he’d ingested about 5 times the lethal amount of Fentanyl. Nobody could believe that Eric had died from a drug overdose. Sandy Maloney was expected in court in February of 1998 for her final hearing in her divorce from husband, John Maloney. She had spoken with her mother several times the night before and after being concerned for her daughter, Lola promised that she would make the just over two hour drive from Madison, Wisconsin to Green Bay, Wisconsin the next morning to check on her. On Monday, November 13th, 1961, a crewman aboard an oil tanker spotted something in the water. It was a man in a dinghy, waving frantically to get their attention. They rescued the man, and he told a harrowing story of how he found himself in the small vessel adrift at sea. While some believed him, others had serious doubts about his story, and another rescue days later cast further doubts on his tale. On December 17, 2011, the father of 20-month-old, Ayla Reynolds, called the police to report his daughter missing. Ayla was in the custody of her father and the night she disappeared, there were three adults in the house, but not one of them will say what happened to her. They say that she was kidnapped and they didn’t know who took her, but the evidence suggests otherwise. In 1996, the Summer Olympics were held in Atlanta, Georgia. On July 27th, thousands had gathered at Centennial Park for a late night concert. The FBI was told that a tip was called into 911 saying that a bomb would go off in the park within 30 minutes. A search ensued, and the bomb was located by security guard Richard Jewell. An evacuation was ordered, but three minutes into it, the bomb detonated. Two people died as a result of the bombing and 111 others were injured. On Friday, April 23, 2021, Zale Dudas and her younger brother, Saxon Nairne, were swimming in a backyard pool, unattended, with a scuba diving tank. Both kids were said to be proficient swimmers, however, at seven and nine years old, they were not proficient scuba diving experts. The scuba tank, typically filled with oxygen, was actually filled with helium. Both children passed out due to the inhalation of the helium and were found at the bottom of the pool. Four days after the incident, both children passed away. Their deaths were determined to be an accident, however, their grieving mother, Suzie Dudas, is seeking justice for her two young children. In late August of 2013, Ryan Hoy called the Aurora Colorado Police Department for help. He said that his wife, 47-year-old Yun-Mi, and his 18-year-old stepdaughter, Isabella, were locked in the upstairs bathroom. In February of 2004, the body of a nude woman was discovered near an agricultural research station for Louisiana State University (LSU). The crime scene was processed and it was discovered that the woman had suffered a deep slash to her neck and there were ligature marks all around her neck. Her body had been positioned in a way so that trauma to her genitals would clearly be seen by anyone who found her. Investigators found signs that she had been dragged to the scene, tire tracks nearby, and 13 empty beer cans. The Houston Police Department received a 911 call in the early morning hours of July 29th, 2016, from a very calm 16-year-old. AJ Armstrong told the dispatcher that he’d heard gunshots in his parents’ room downstairs and that he was now hiding in the closet of his third floor bedroom. When officers arrived, they found AJ’s mother, Dawn, dead in her bed, from two gunshot wounds to the head. AJ’s father, Antonio, had also suffered a gunshot wound to the head, but was clinging to life. Both AJ and his 12-year-old sister were unharmed. In the late evening and early morning hours between July 12th and July 13th, 2015, 18-year-old Tiffany Valiante’s body was recovered by police after it was struck by a train in Mays Landing, New Jersey. Her family was told that the promising young volleyball player had jumped out in front of the train, taking her own life. Tiffany was a typical teenager, who struggled sometimes at home and argued with her parents, but had also been offered five scholarships to play college volleyball and couldn’t wait to meet her college roommate. The New Jersey Transit Police quickly closed the case, ruling it a suicide, however, there were so many questions left unanswered. After a day of doing drugs and hanging out with her “lover,” Taylor Schabusiness strangled and dismembered Shad Thyrion. On July 20th, 2020, Gallatin, Tennessee 911 dispatchers received a phone call from Aaron Solomon. He told them that his 18-year-old son Grant was lying in a ditch at the bottom of the parking lot, and that his Toyota Tacoma had backed over him and dragged him down the hill. When responders arrived, they found Grant alive, but only just. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Officers ruled the death an accident and the case was closed. On September 21st, 2004, a man was arrested in Mobile, Alabama for the murder of 43-year-old Lisa Marie Nichols. Lisa had been found shot to death in her home, which was then set on fire. 32-year-old John Paul Chapman was taken into custody, but detectives quickly found that the man was actually Jeremy Bryan Jones. Jones was a fugitive after fleeing Oklahoma when his bail was revoked. More concerningly, Jones had been arrested under his ‘Chapman’ alias three times, and was released each time. Once he was in custody, Jones confessed to over 20 murders. How many people had this man, once described by ADA John Furman as a “low-rent Ted Bundy”, actually killed?
