S6 Ep 9S06E09 - Andy Nyman (Part 2)

E

It's that time of the week again where we drop another instalment of the Two Shot Podcast on podcast feeds. We've had a mad week of recording this week and we've got a fair few bangers in the can. The week started with a trip to Hammersmith and a journey into the marvellous mind of Mr Andy Nyman. Andy welcomed us into his top-floor museum which, if you've seen any of the accompanying pictures or videos from this week's episode, you'll know is a sight to behold. We sat down and pressed record... or we didn't press it properly cos it didn't flipping work!!! So we missed the first 20 odd minutes of the conversation which we're absolutely mortified about -These vids are usually reserved for our Patreon donators but since since we love you all, here's a link to a private video from the bit we missed to give you a flavour of the start of the conversation - Anyway, on to Andy. Andy is an actor, a writer and a director amongst other things, you might know him from Wanderlust, Peaky Blinders, Uprising, and Kick-Ass 2, as well as recent productions of Fiddler On The Roof and Hello Dolly. If you cast your mind back to September 2017, you'll remember the last time we sat down with Andy. Lots has happened since then and we get into it in this episode. Andy and Craig discuss Ghost Stories, getting films made, the challenges of working with a close friend, acting books, pragmatism vs negativity and loads more. She and Craig talk about her childhood desires to live in the Walton's house, what still needs to change in the industry, the implications of having a different surname to your mum, being in rooms when plays are occurring and how brunch time is the perfect time to put the world to rights. This is episode 102 of the Two Shot Podcast with Rakie Ayola. S5 Ep 17S05E17 - Laurie Kynaston

E

Hi mates. Hope you're all well. It's episode 101 time and our guest this week is Laurie Kynaston. Laurie is a brilliant young actor currently wowing audiences in Florian Zeller's 'The Son' in London's West End. You might also have seen him in Cradle to Grave or alongside previous guest Nicola Coughlan in Derry Girls. We meet Laurie in our favourite Soho haunt Maison Bertaux, got a brew in and got down to it. As Craig mentions in his intro, Laurie is an incredibly centred young actor with a real gift of self-understanding. He and Craig talk of the magic of childhood film-making, the meditative benefits of musical minimalism, growing up in a bucolic Welsh countryside and loads more. It's a lovely episode with a lovely person. We hope you enjoy this episode of the Two Shot Podcast with Laurie Kynaston. Get in touch... S5 Ep 16S05E16 - Martin Compston

E

100 N/O. Not a bad innings that is it? Thanks for joining us this week. It's only our hundredth bloody episode. Thanks a load to everyone who's listened, shared, sponsored, recommended and generally made us feel lovely about the podcast. It's really, really appreciated. On to our guest... It's flipping Martin Compston. We've been talking about sitting down with Martin ever since the very first episode with his Line Of Duty co-star Vicky McClure all that time ago. It seemed very appropriate to mark our hundredth episode with this episode. You'll know Martin from the afore mentioned Line of Duty but also in many other hings including Monarch of the Glen, The Wee Man and Ken Loach's wonderful Sweet Sixteen. It's a proper good chat between mates this one, navigating through the subjects of dance-offs, pub selfy etiquette, mayonnaise revelations and loads more. Thanks again for all the support over the past couple of years and don't forget to keep telling your pals about us. It really helps us grow. S5 Ep 15S05E15 - Sinead Keenan

E

Tonight we’re gonna party like it’s episode 99 (that loosely works doesn’t it??). This week we’re joined by the hilarious Sinead Keenan. You might’ve seen her very recently in ITV’s Deep Water, or in BBC Three’s Being Human. Irish listeners may have seen her in RTE’s Fair City. We sat down with her in Soho and hear about the origins of her potty mouth, her grandparent’s ejection from an am-dram group for unruly behaviour, touching Mother Teresa, being listened to by an audience. Sinead is understated and self-deprecating but wickedly funny and incredibly insightful. You’ll love listening to her. Thanks again for listening and subscribing and telling your pals about the Two Shot Podcast. We really appreciate it. Get in touch... S5 Ep 14S05E14 - Mark Strong

E

Hiyer. How goes it? Hope you're good this week. We are. We've done a load of podcast recording. And the first one we're gonna share with you is this absolute beaut featuring the incredible voice of actor Mark Strong. You'll know Mark from loads of stuff. You might've seen him very recently in in Sky One's Temple alongside Craig and previous TSP guest Danny Mays. He's been in loads of other stuff including Kingsman, Sherlock Holmes, Shazam, Deep State, Green Lantern, The Imitation Game, RocknRolla, Zero Dark Thirty and loads, loads more. He's a prolifically brilliant actor and a completely wonderful person. He has a calm and considered demeanour with a voice to match, which we're sure you'll thoroughly enjoy listening to. We sat down with Mark in a swank club in Soho and got down to it. He told us of his joy at playing football matches with unorthodox kick-off times, not regretting turning jobs down, punk bands, being without his parents as a youth, the inexact science of making films, amongst tons of other stuff. Hello Two Shot Podcast listeners. It's that time of the week again where we bring you a slice of chat-based audio loveliness and this week it's the turn of Lancastrian poet, author and Broadcaster Lemn Sissay (OBE). Craig went along on his own to meet Lemn in a hotel in Manchester with his trusty audio recorder and they got into it. Lemn recounts us with tales of his childhood, growing up in the care system, finding his people, anger and loads, loads more. It's a humorous and affecting hour or so and we're really excited to share it with you. The best-selling book that you hear mentioned in the podcast is available right now. S5 Ep 12S05E12 - Nicola Coughlan

E

What’s the story Two Shot Podcast listeners? We’re here with another podcast. It’s with Derry Girls’ superstar Nicola Coughlan. We met up with Nicola a few weeks ago now; back in the London summer. It was a really lovely afternoon so I think we eschewed our usual brews for a pint each and got down to it. We talk mad tattoos, Basquiat, Derry Girls Murals, Galway, the frustrations of academia and tonnes more. Nicola is class. She’s an absolute whirlwind of tales and she’s mint on social media. Do your feed a favour and go and follow her on twitter. Enough with the waffle. On with the episode. This in number 96 with the absolutely ace Nicola CoughlanGet in touch... S5 Ep 11S05E11 - Jill Halfpenny

E

Hiyer. How are ya? Hope you're alright this week. Don't really know what say about this one. It's sad, and brutal, but incredibly honest. For anyone who has experienced grief that they haven't fully processed, it's all too relatable. This week's guest is the amazing human Jill Halfpenny. You might know Jill from Coronations Street, Eastenders or Waterloo Road, or, for those of you that remember the early days of Byker Grove, she played Nicola Dobson throughout her teenage years. We sat down with Jill on a bench in Soho Square (sorry about the construction work noise in the background this week) on a very hot day and heard her stories. Jill has experienced and come through some difficult times and she bears her scars with dignity and passion. She talks candidly about her losses and her struggles as a young actress growing up in the North East of England. She and Craig discuss the pressures of small talk, getting stuff thrown at you on the bus, unprocessed trauma, people-pleasing, being bulletproof and loads, loads more. TRIGGER WARNING - THIS EPISODE CONTAINS QUITE A LOT OF FRANK TALK ABOUT LOSS AND GRIEF. IF THAT'S PRETTY HARD WORK FOR YOU THEN IT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA TO WAIT UNTIL YOU'RE FEELING IN A BETTER PLACE BEFORE LISTENING. Get in touch... What's happening mates! Hope you are all in a good place this week. It's episode ninety four with none other than Gaz Coombes. You'll know loads of Gaz's tunes. His new single Salamander is getting a load of radio play on 6Music. He's been putting out banging records for about 25 years under both his own name and with his group Supergrass. We met Gaz outside Maison Bertaux in Soho on a very sunny day in July. We had a brew and a chat and we recorded it so you can have a listen too. It's a lovely hour or so with Gaz and Craig covering all types of subjects. Have a listen, we reckon you'll like it. Get in touch... Jessie is a writer, standup comic, actor, illustrator and all round creative whirlwind. We sit down with her and hear her tales of love, loss, grief, struggle, comedy and Harry Potter. She's a unique and fantastically strong woman who is currently up in Edinburgh with her brilliant show Sunrise (tickets here). You might well have caught her at one of her many other comedy shows in London and Edinburgh or as Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter films. It was an amazing hour spent in her company and we hope it brings you some hope or perspective or solace. This is episode 93 of the Two Shot Podcast with Jessie Cave.Trigger warning - This week's episode deals with some pretty raw stuff around the loss of family members. S5 Ep 8S05E08 - Nile Rodgers

E

Peace be with you TSP listeners. It's a special Sunday release of the podcast. Last weekend we were at Kendal Calling festival. It was the Friday, before the entire site turned into brown shiny slime. We were set up in Tim Peaks diner along with a couple of hundred tightly packed pals. The extra security was in place and we all awaited the arrival of some real funk royalty. When Nile Rodgers rolled up, I don't think any of us could believe it was happening but we had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with him and being regaled by his stories of Grace Jones, Sesame Street, guitar technique, getting sacked by Shakira and many others. You'll definitely know at least ten songs with Nile's fingerprints on em. He's written and produced for the likes of Madonna, Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, David Bowie, Duran Duran, Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams, The B-52s, as well as his own incredible Chic project. The guy is an absolute boss and we're honoured to have him sit down with us. Big thanks to all those that made this happen at Kendal Calling and the illustrious question askers. S5 Ep 7S05E07 - Laura and Jon McClure (Reverend And The Makers)

E

Hiyer. It's the British summer (apparently) and that means it's festival season. We went up to the beautiful Lowther deer park, got our culturally appropriative head-dresses on and recorded two banging episodes, which means it's double-dose week on the Two Shot Podcast. First up, in our usual Thursday morning slot, we have Sheffield's own power couple, John and Laura McClure from Reverend And The Makers. We've spoken to Jon before on #TSP051 but we thought we'd invite him back on with his partner Laura to discuss the ins and outs of being a band wife and husband, Rev-enders, tour decompression techniques, penis reviews and a bunch of other stuff. Reverend and the Makers are always out on tour soon so make sure you go and get a ticket and keep an eye out for the forthcoming 2-disc 'best-of', out soon on Cooking Vinyl records. This is a chat from down at the lakeside bar at Kendal Calling festival (forgive the distant drums). Hope you enjoy and we'll be back on Sunday for a chat with Chic's legendary Nile Rodgers. Get in touch... S5 Ep 6S05E06 - Glenn Wool

E

Hello Two Shot Podcast listeners. Lovely of you to join us this week for our second in the ongoing series of "Al Fresco" TSP recordings. This week, we've had a sit down (in the park) with the absolutely hilarious Glenn Wool. Glenn is a Canadian comic who we first met in Manchester after the podcast festival last year. He was completely charming and we did our best to get him to come and have a chat with us before he headed off back to Canada. We met him in Soho Square, tried to find a position on the grass that wasn't excruciatingly painful to sit in and we got down to it. We talk, comedy, love, romance and Canadian mounties amongst a load of other stuff. This is episode 90 of the Two Shot Podcast with Glenn Wool. Get in touch... S5 Ep 5S05E05 - Julie Hesmondhalgh

E

Another day, another podcast. But not just any podcast! This one is with the absolute legend Julie Hesmondhalgh! We've had our fair share of folk from 'up north' on Two Shot over the past few years but for my money, Julie takes the prize for the most intensely Northern accent. Hailing from the Lancastrian town of Accrington, Julie has been on our screens for 20 odd years. You might know her from her iconic portrayal of Hayley Cropper in Coronation Street or more recently in Broadchurch, Happy Valley, Peterloo or Black Roses, as well as many theatrical performances. We met up with Julie in Maison Bertaux in Soho and chatted about retro booze, social issues, Accy, trans visibility, tiredness (or lack thereof) and loads, loads more. Get a brew on, a proper one and have a listen to this, the 89th episode of the Two Shot Podcast with the wonderful Julie Hesmondhalgh. Get in touch... S5 Ep 3S05E03 - Morven Christie

E

It seems like an age, but we’re back, rested and ready to fire up the mics and get back to doing what we do...We wanted someone very special to talk to for us coming back and getting down to business so when looking through a very large list of artists that we want to talk to, seeing where both myself and Griff would be in the country, the stars aligned. We found that we were in Manchester and guess who else was nearby... The magnificent MORVEN CHRISTIE!!!!! As you’ll hear near the start, we’ve been talking about making this conversation happen for well over a year but we’re so pleased it’s happened now and WHAT A CORKER of an episode this is. We touch on some very serious subjects on this one. This is just a conversation. We are not professionals so if you’ve been affected by any of the subjects we discuss please do seek out professional help or talk to a trusted friend or family member. You’ll know Morven from all sorts of stuff; Grantchester, The A Word, The Replacement, Doctor Who, Young Victoria, Hunted most recently The Bay on ITV1 also starring past TSP guest Dan Ryan. We’re thrilled to be back and even more thrilled that we’re kicking things off with this incredible conversation. Thanks for all your messages of support whilst we’ve been “off air”. S4 Ep 18S04E18 - Tom Davis

E

It's that Two Shot Podcast time of the week again and have we got a barrel of laughs for you this week (albeit a well-tempered and thoughtful barrel of laughs). It's the actor, writer and comedian Tom Davis! You might know Tom from his role as DI Sleet in Murder In Successville or alongside Romesh Ranganathan in Judge Romesh or from his work with Leigh Francis in Bo' Selecta and the Keith Lemon programs. We travelled down to that London again and met up with Tom in our Soho cafe of choice, Maison Bertaux. We talked social-media, scaffolding, stand-up comedy and Croydon. Tom's a belter of a fella with infectious sense of humour and a gift of yarn-spinning. It's a top episode with plenty of jokes. By the end, if you didn't already, you'll have a proper soft-spot for Tom. Thanks a lot for listening. If you want a badge then have a listen here and see how you can get one. If you haven't got tickets for the live TSP in London with Richard E. Grant then click through here and see if there're any left. It's gonna be ace. Get in touch... If you enjoy the podcast and want to donate we'd absolutely love that! Go to https://www.patreon.com/twoshotpod and give us a quid or two. S4 Ep 17S04E17 - Amy Booth-Steel

E

So here we are again... EPISODE 81. How’s your week been? Good? Not bad? Fair? Actually pretty bad? Well, put everything aside for a while and get in your podcast zone and do something for you. Forget about that email you have to send. Put down that phone and make that call later. Spend a little bit of time to listen to someone else’s story. Just for a while. It’s a funny thing. When booking guests to come on the podcast it can be: 1: people we know ( quite rare but still happens) 2: people we’ve never met before but may have heard of( almost all the time) 3: people we’ve never met but get recommended by people we do know ( sometimes) And now there’s a “4”....the complete accident ( this is the first time!) Craig stumbled across AMY BOOTH STEEL on social media. It was a video. A video of a young woman with a ukulele. She was singing a song. ....and that’s just the start...We got in touch as we thought her story should be heard and this seemed the perfect platform for to do it. We were right. Amy is total tonic and we think you’re going to love her. If you’ve seen her videos that have gone viral then you’ll understand....if you havnt...then you will...THIS IS EPISODE 81 OF THE TWO SHOT PODCAST with the INCREDIBLE AMY BOOTH-STEEL. If you want a badge then have a listen here and see how you can get one. If you haven't got tickets for the live TSP in London with Richard E. Grant then click through here and see if there're any left. It's gonna be ace. Get in touch... If you enjoy the podcast and want to donate we'd absolutely love that! S4 Ep 16S04E16 - Jemima Rooper

E

Hiyer, how're you keeping? Decent we hope. Thanks for listening in to this, the eightieth episode of the Two Shot Podcast. This week we are joined by the infectiously lovely Jemima Rooper. We were back in our spiritual London home of Maison Bertaux this week. Jemima came and met us, we had a brew and really bloody nice chat. Jemima has been on our stages and screens for the best past of the last thirty years. You may know her from her childhood appearances as George in The Famous Five or on the big screen in The Black Dahlia, or on our TVs in Hex, As If and Lost in Austen amongst a myriad of other things. Jemima is a joy to be around and her contagious mirth is hard to resist. She and Craig talk parenthood, child acting, juggling exams and your job, growing up and how often it's acceptable to leave it before washing your bedsheets. It's a fabulous episode and you'll absolutely love Jemima. ENJOY.If you want a badge then have a listen here and see how you can get one. S4 Ep 14S04E14 - Joseph Gilgun (Part 2)

E

This week we're celebrating some of the talented past TSP guests who've been recognised at this year's BAFTAs. This episode with Joe Gilgun first aired February 28th 2019 Nah then. How are you keeping? We've got another sequel for you this week. It's the return of one of Chorley's finest exports Mr. Joseph Gilgun! We chatted to Joe way, way back in 2017 (click here to listen) and the feedback we got from that episode was incredible. Joe doesn't do too many interviews so having the opportunity to sit down again and record was a real honour. When we spoke to Joe, he'd just wrapped from a hectic shoot on his own creation; the soon to be released series Brassic. He was just readying himself to travel halfway across the world to start shooting the next series of AMC's Preacher - A brutal schedule by anyone's reckoning. The episode finds him wrestling with his emotions. The brutality and honesty of his self-analysis is sometimes startling but they shine so much light on the human condition, it's impossible not to be completely won over. His unfiltered passion and storytelling ability is nothing short of spellbinding and the anecdotes are typically hilarious. It's a beautiful episode that we're so proud to be able to bring you. This is episode 78 of the Two Shot Podcast with Joseph Gilgun. Get in touch... S4 Ep 13S04E13 - Tchéky Karyo

E

Bonjour TSP listeners. Hope you're well as you read this. We've got an absolute treat for you this week in the shape of a chat with the enigmatic actor Tchéky Karyo. You may have seen Tchéky in his role of detective Julien Baptiste in The Missing and Baptiste or in such films as The Patriot, Goldeneye, Bad Boys and La Femme Nikita. He has an incredibly impressive resume, but this being the Two Shot Pod we don't really talk about all that stuff. Tcheky is a passionate and deeply interesting person. His life-experiences of growing up in a melting pot of cultures and environments have moulded him into the wonderful person he is. Craig and Tchéky talk here about the brutality of school, the importance of bread and cheese, the power of avant-garde theatre, the human spirit, Paris in the 50s and 60s, and much, much more. It's a really beautiful episode and we're so proud to put it out.Enjoy episode 77 of the Two Shot Podcast with Tcheky Karyo. Get in touch... S4 Ep 12S04E12 - Julie Graham

E

Hello TSP listeners. Hope this episode finds you well. We've got a treat from north of the border this week in the shape of the wonderful actor Julie Graham. Craig and Julie had never met before but that didn't seem to stop them having a proper good chin-wag about life, camper vans, London, auditions and having a bit of a legend for a mum. You'll know Julie from The Bletchley Circle, Benidorm, Shetland, or William and Mary. She's top company and we were honoured to hear her stories. We're sure you'll share our sentiments. This is episode 76 with Julie Graham. Get in touch...If you enjoy the podcast and want to donate we'd absolutely love that! Go to https://www.patreon.com/twoshotpod and give us a quid or two. S4 Ep 11S04E11 - Cariad Lloyd

E

Hiyer. How are ya? Thanks for being here. It's very much appreciated. Remember when Notorious B.I.G. and Method Man dropped red-hot collab 'The What' over an impeccably produced Easy Mo Bee beat? Well what we've got here for episode 75 is the podcast equivalent. Well it's not really, but that is a dead good song. This week's guest is podcasting royalty. It's the multi award-winning Griefcast's very own Cariad Lloyd. Cariad is an infectious ball of energy juggling so many different and brilliant creative pursuits. She and Craig discuss acting, podcast life, improvisation, grief and so, so much more. You might know Cariad from the afore-mentioned Griefcast, or from her improvised comedy group Austentacious. You might know her from her appearances in Peep Show, Murder in Successville and Toast of London. You might also know her from her appearances on Would I Lie To You, 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Have I Got News For You or QI. Basically, she does a lot. And she always does it wonderfully well. And she's dead cool. This is episode 75 of the Two Shot Podcast with the brilliant Cariad Lloyd. Get in touch...
