This week’s guest on the Treasury Career Corner Podcast Todd Yoder, Director of Global Corporate Treasury at Fluor Corporation, has worked across some of the largest engineering, procurement and construction projects in the world. Founded in 1912 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, the Fluor Corporation is one of the world’s largest engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction and maintenance companies. It has been responsible for some of the world’s most complex projects, from bridges to diamond mines to oil refineries and pipelines, Fluor operates across six continents and has been listed in Fortune Magazine’s “World’s Most Admired Companies" for 19 consecutive years. It has revenues of $19.2 billion in 2018 and over 53,000 employees working across 100 countries. Prior to Fluor, Todd worked at Capital Bancorp in commercial credit before moving to Catalyst Marketing Design Inc. He then joined Zimmer Holdings Inc where he was involved in a wide range of global treasury responsibilities. He was eventually promoted to oversee the financial planning and analysis for Zimmer’s Reconstructive Global Hips and Trauma divisions. He also worked for Anthem, one of the largest health benefits companies before moving to Fluor.Todd has been given multiple awards for his work at Fluor for his corporate treasury strategy. In 2019 he was given Fluor’s prestigious Tappan Award for being a key team member on the Gordie Howe International Bridge. Todd is also known for being a treasury technology expert and is at the forefront of utilizing AI, data visualisation and robotic process automation within multi-national corporate treasury to add value to the business. He has an insatiable thirst for knowledge and holds three business degrees. On this episode of the Treasury Career Corner Podcast, I speak to Senne Van Nieuwenborgh, Senior Vice President, Treasury at SES Satellites. He made the move from management consulting into treasury and quickly progressed up the treasury career, taking roles in diverse industries, from mining to metals to space! SES are based in Betzdorf, Luxembourg and are a world-leading satellite operator. They also have more than 50 satellites in Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) and 20 in Medium Earth Orbit (MEO). They focus on value-added, end-to-end solutions in two key business units: SES Video and SES Networks. The company also provides satellite communication services to broadcasters, content and internet service providers, mobile and fixed network operators, governments and institutions. Founded in 1985 as Société Européenne des Satellites, the company was renamed SES Global in 2001 and has been simply “SES” since 2006. Senne started off studying law before starting work as a management consultant at Anderson Consulting (now Accenture). An opportunity came up to join Dow Chemical. He instantly clicked with the people and the company and spent the next 7 years moving around the company acquiring the technical skill-set that got him headhunted for Nyrstar. Senne has some great lessons for those starting out or for those looking to progress up the treasury career ladder. Prior to working for Avery Dennison, Ramon started as in auditing at Deloitte before progressing to the position of Senior Manager, heading up the Regulatory and Accounting team within Treasury & Capital Markets for a range of international companies. He then consulted at Numico and managed their transition to Danone. In 2012, Ramon moved to VimpelCom where he set up the treasury management systems, controls, and compliance processes as well as dealing with corporate finance strategy. Today they employ around 17,000 employees and operate in 100 countries.Before joining Allergan, Stephen was the VP, Treasurer of Virgin Mobile USA, a wireless MVNO service provider, from 2004 to 2010. While at Virgin Mobile, he was part of the team that led the company’s IPO in 2007. Prior to Virgin Mobile, Stephen was SVP, Assistant Treasurer of the CIT Group responsible for the cash management, risk and international treasury functions.He started his treasury career at AT&T Capital Corporation. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the Washington Crossing Council, Boy Scouts of America. In this week’s show I am joined by Stephen Darnley, the Corporate Treasurer at International Air Transport Association (IATA).  IATA was founded in Havana, Cuba, on 19 April 1945. It is an international not-for-profit trade organization, created over 70 years ago by a group of airlines. At its founding, IATA had 57 members from 31 nations, mostly in Europe and North America. Today it has some 290 airlines in 120 countries comprising 82% of total air traffic. The organization also represents, leads and serves the airline industry in general.The international scheduled air transport industry is more than 100 times larger than it was in 1945. Few industries can match the dynamism of that growth, which would have been much less spectacular without the standards, practices and procedures developed within IATA.Today it is the prime vehicle for inter-airline cooperation in promoting safe, reliable, secure and economical air services for the benefit of the world’s consumers.  Stephen has worked in the travel and transportation industry in the past. But his incredible, diverse work experience was never limited to one industry, and he has encountered many sectors in his remarkable career. Stephen Medhurst, the Senior Vice President of Treasury at Omnicom Group Inc., joins the Treasury Career Corner podcast to tell us about his career history, insights into managing global treasury operations and the importance of embracing change.Omnicom is a global marketing communications leader which provides brand and advertising services to over 5,000 clients in over 100 countries. Since its formation in 1986, the company has grown to include over 1,500 subsidiary agencies.Stephen is the SVP of Treasury for Europe & Asia for Omnicom Finance Ltd. As part of the management team, he is responsible for the global development of the Treasury function and for international operations outside North America. He is also a member of the board for Omnicom Europe and Customer Advisory Board member for Deutsche Bank.Stephen’s first job was as a graduate trainee at National Westminster Bank, but he quickly moved on to working for Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank in their MNC Group. While there, he built up their client base by 20% and increased profitability by 30%. After taking a year out to complete an MBA, Stephen went on to join ICI in an Organisation Development role. He moved back into treasury, looking at corporate exposures and managing debt and investments. Building a career in treasury is something that many of us put years and years of hard work into to get to the position of our dreams. However, sometimes you can get thrown in the deep end at a very young age. This episode of the podcast is special as I’m joined by Markus Kede. Markus began his treasury career incredibly young and became a Group Treasurer at just 26! Markus has a degree in Science in Financial and Strategic Management as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He has had an incredibly varied and successful career at such a young age, with a huge amount of responsibility put on his shoulders. In this episode of the Treasury Career Corner podcast I am delighted to be joined by Richard Garry, the Group Treasurer at Informa Group. We explore the various roles Richard has held and the importance of broadening your experience with each career decision. Richard is currently responsible for the Group Treasury, Insurance Programme and Pension risks of Informa plc, managing a centralised department from the Corporate Head Office in London. Comprising of a team of 10 professionals, the Group Treasury function is responsible for the company’s debt, cash, foreign exchange and corporate finance requirements. Prior to joining Informa, Richard worked for IMI plc, the UK listed global industrial engineer, in a similar role and through a period of transformational change for that business he managed a significant disposal and various acquisitions. Richard has also worked for HS1 Ltd, the owner of the high-speed rail infrastructure which runs from St Pancras Station in London to the start of the Channel Tunnel, where in 2011/12 he restructured the balance sheet using a Whole Business Securitised structure. Richard spent the bulk of his career at Toyota Financial Services where he was responsible for the funding and risk management of its €10Bn Balance sheet across Europe & Africa. Whilst there he was also Chaired their Global Asset Liability Committee. Richard has also had stints at Reuters and British Airways, where he started his career as a Graduate Trainee. His core responsibilities include bank relationship management, liquidity and banking infrastructure, FX risk, trade finance, M&A due diligence and integration and colleague development. He was EMEA treasury lead in delivering the carve out of 2 companies from the Honeywell portfolio, as part of $20bn USD of divestitures in 2018. Prior to joining Honeywell, he worked at Pfizer. One of his key achievements was establishing the treasury centre for Zoetis (Pfizer’s Animal health IPO from 2013), where he headed up the Front Office. He holds a BA in Political Science & Mathematics from University College Dublin, an MSc in Financial & Industrial Mathematics from Dublin City University as well as postgraduate qualification in Corporate Treasury from the Irish Association of Corporate Treasury / Dublin City University. He has a passion for continuous improvement and is a qualified 6 Sigma Green Belt. He has also won several treasury awards including from TMI and Adam Smith. I’m thrilled to be joined by Susana Aristizabal, the Assistant Treasurer at Bombardier Transportation on this episode of The Treasury Career Corner podcast. Susana Aristizabal is originally from Colombia. She holds a graduate diploma in International Business from McGill and an MBA from HEC Montreal. My guest on this episode of the Treasury Career Corner podcast is Adam Richford, the Group Treasurer at Renewi plc. Adam began his career with EY, helping to build the turnaround and working capital management practice before joining Energis, a fallen-angel telco, where he had his first line-responsibility for treasury. This was then followed by a stint at a Private Equity Firm, Kelso Place Asset Management. Adam then went on to join GE Capital as their Treasurer for the UK Real Estate business, his first role as a dedicated treasury professional. Over the following 9 years at GE, he provided treasury support for more than 20 billion pounds worth of acquisition, disposals, and integration of assets, portfolios and loan books, leading the European treasury function. When GE resized the capital business, he joined Gala Coral Group, a high-leveraged private equity business. This was his first Group Treasurer position, supporting the strategic exit plans including the merger between Coral and Ladbrokes. This experience proved invaluable when, following Gala Coral, Adam joined Renewi as Group Treasurer, working towards the reverse takeover of its closest competitor, Van Gansewinkel Group. Post merger his team redesigned the Treasury function and created a completely Green funding.
