Navigating Optics In State Politics with Pat Kreitlow (Hour 1)
It’s Wednesday, and that means Pat Kreitlow of UpNorthNews Radio is here! First, they recap last night’s Badgers basketball win and talk about concessions at college sports games. This morning, Israel and Palestine have finally reached a ceasefire agreement including release of hostages. Todd and Pat celebrate this development, hoping it takes effect as soon as possible. In Wisconsin news, it looks like Governor Evers may be gearing up for a shot at becoming “Three-Term Tony.” He has also unveiled efforts to establish a new violence prevention office. It seeks to address the root causes of gun violence in our state. Todd and Pat discuss the pros and cons of this approach. While they agree that these problems need attention, Todd thinks the optics are detrimental. He’s concerned that this office will be too easy to paint as “yet another office full of bureaucratic red tape.” The Todd Allbaugh Show is a part of the Civic Media radio network and airs Monday through Friday from 12 - 2 pm across Wisconsin. What’s Worse: The 80’s Or The 90’s? (Hour 2)
Today, Todd asks us What’s Worse: the 80’s or the 90’s? We take a ton of calls and texts spanning music, politics and more. Listen in for everybody’s memories and to see which decade is worse! To wrap up today’s show, we listen to some audio from today’s confirmation hearing for Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth. Notably, his Republican supporters are not denying any of the horrifying allegations against Hegseth. Instead, they are simply downplaying them. Understanding How H1B Visas Impact Wisconsin (Hour 1)
After touching on the latest NFL and college basketball news, Todd brings us Sophie Carson’s new article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on H1B visas. Todd spent a lot of time managing H1B applications under former US Congressman Scott Klug. He explains how this program works and the ways it impacts both our state and national economy. Just like other aspects of immigration, this is a complex issue that would take a lot of time and money to unravel. Hundreds of Wisconsin businesses hire employees with H1B visas. At the bottom of the hour, Luke Mathers joins us for another round of Tuesday Tangents! He and Todd go over what politicians on each side of the aisle are saying about H1B visas. Unfortunately, since immigration is such a polarizing issue, American candidates and elected officials are not inclined to fix it. If they do, neither Republicans nor Democrats can campaign on it. We take some very passionate calls debating whether it’s worse to be dangerous or annoying. To wrap up the show, Todd discusses some of the movies that the Library of Congress added to the National Film Registry. Notably, one of his favorite movies made it onto the list! Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan has provided inspiration for Todd throughout his life, and he shares the reasons why. No More Election Committee In Our State Senate (Hour 1)

The National Weather Service has now issued its most severe warning for the greater Los Angeles area due to increasing winds. If you’re able to donate to help victims of the fires, Time Magazine has a list of reputable charities that can best put your donations to use. In Wisconsin news, our state senate has no election committee for the first time in almost 20 years. Todd goes over Alexander Shur’s new article on Wisconsin Watch and breaks down what this means for us. In today’s second hour, we are honored to welcome Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez back to the show! After briefly explaining the latest severe weather declaration from Governor Tony Evers, she explores the makeup of 2025’s new state legislature with us. LG Rodriguez is looking forward to reaching across the aisle to address Wisconsin’s housing affordability crisis this year. She also helps us stay informed on this April’s State Supreme Court election. Afterwards, Todd asks us What’s Worse: obsessive planners or people who don’t plan at all? Todd also brings us an article by Daniel Bice of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on some of the real reasons Brad Schimel wants to be a Justice. We end today’s show with a clip from the Joe Rogan Experience. Actor Mel Gibson shared some stories about alleged cancer cures. However, the medications he lists are NOT approved or effective for treating cancer. We must be careful not to trap ourselves in information silos. The Mount Rushmore Of WI Athletics with Bradie Ewing (Hour 1)
This Friday, Todd takes another moment to update us on the raging wildfires in California. Our friend LA Tom provides some more information from the ground. If you or someone you know are in the greater Los Angeles area, stay calm and pay attention to the news and your surroundings. If you’re able to donate to help victims of the fires, Time Magazine has a list of reputable charities that can best put your donations to use. At the bottom of the hour, three-time Big 10 Champion and former NFL fullback Bradie Ewing returns to the show. He gives us his perspective on what the Packers face in the postseason. As an athlete who suffered from severe injuries in the NFL, Bradie has insight into what Jordan Love may be going through. Todd also asks a fascinating question: if Bradie could pick any four coaches from Wisconsin athletics to immortalize on Mount Rushmore, who would he pick? Up North, It’s Not Cold Enough To Get It On Anymore (Hour 2)
If you’re able to donate to help victims of the raging fires in California, Time Magazine has a list of reputable charities that can best put your donations to use. Today, Todd asks us What’s Worse: staring or not making eye contact? We take your calls and texts! At the bottom of the hour, Todd dives into a deeply fascinating story. According to the CDC, Wisconsin ranks among the least fertile states in the US. Northern WI in particular may soon experience a dangerous decrease in population. Todd also breaks down some noteworthy representatives in the 119th Congress. Some of them fly under the radar, but they may have an outsized effect on our state. On California’s Raging Wildfires (Hour 1)
The late, great former President Jimmy Carter’s memorial service was held this morning. We bring you some bits and pieces of the eulogies, as well as a beautiful rendition of John Lennon’s Imagine by Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. Todd analyzes the behavior of presidents past and present at the event. You can learn a lot from watching the rare moments when these individuals meet. We also take some calls on the legacy of President Carter. At the bottom of the hour, Todd pivots to the ongoing catastrophic wildfires in California. If you know anybody who lives in Southern California, reach out and make sure they’re okay! How To Break Through The Noise with Trygve Olson (Hour 2)
After a break for the holidays, Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project is back to answer your questions. One caller asks Trygve how best to convey the danger of Donald Trump without comparing him to Hitler. This all ties back to psychology. Modern media has changed the way people ingest information, and Trygve breaks down some ways to combat this. Todd and Trygve also ask What’s Worse: spicy or bland? Voter ID Doesn’t Have To Be A Boogeyman (Hour 1)
It’s Wednesday, and now that everybody has returned from their holiday vacations, we have our usual guests! Trygve Olson will join us next hour, but Pat Kreitlow of UpNorthNews Radio is here off the top to help rein in the chaos. After addressing California’s disastrous wildfires, they discuss the first action by Wisconsin’s State Senate: a ballot initiative to require voter ID. Notably, this is already the law of the land in our state. Todd has a unique perspective on this, as voter suppression is the very issue that pushed him to leave the Republican party. While he isn’t a political consultant, Todd offers some free advice to the Democratic party. He believes that they shouldn’t push against this bill as hard as they are. Ultimately, voter identification isn’t a bad thing. The issue lies in accessibility. If Wisconsinites can easily acquire their ID for free and register to vote, then there is no issue. Meanwhile, if Democrats block this legislation as a whole, it makes it easy to claim that they don’t want to protect against voter fraud. Listen in to hear Todd’s take! Brad Schimel Is Unfit For The WI Supreme Court (Hour 2)
To kick off today’s second hour, Todd delves further into Brad Schimel’s past and why he is unfit to be elected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court this April. As it turns out, he’s done a lot more than assert that January 6th insurrectionists are innocent. Regular listener Jo from Madison calls in to remind us of things he did as Attorney General, from excessive spending on merch to unacceptably slow processing of rape kits. At the bottom of the hour, Luke Mathers returns for a belated edition of Tuesday Tangents! He and Todd discuss Brad Schimel’s extreme political past before asking What’s Worse: junk mail or email spam? What You Should Know About Brad Schimel with Jack Kelly (Hour 1)
Yesterday, we spoke about the events of January 6, 2021, when insurrectionists stormed the US Capitol in an attempt to stop the presidential election certification. Today, we follow up on bizarre comments from former Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel on The Vicki McKenna Show about that day. Against overwhelming evidence, Schimel claims that the J6 defendants didn’t “get a fair shot.” Schimel intends to run as the conservative candidate this April in the Wisconsin Supreme Court election. At the bottom of the hour, Wisconsin Watch Statehouse Reporter Jack Kelly returns to the show to discuss his latest article on Wisconsin’s upcoming Supreme Court election. We Must Not Forget The Insurrection (Hour 1)
Todd kicks off the new week with updates on sports and weather. Despite a loss against the Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers have clinched a spot in the playoffs. In other news, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has resigned as the leader of the Liberal Party. Countries around the world have been showing their dissatisfaction with incumbent governments by voting them out, and Trudeau appears to expect similar results in Canada. Today is the fourth anniversary of the insurrection at the US Capitol. While President-elect Donald Trump’s election certification is proceeding smoothly today, we must never forget the tragedy our nation suffered four years ago. Todd shares his thoughts and takes your calls on how we can move on as a unified nation. We also take a look back at our interview with former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn from June about what he saw that day. Cakes On Cakes and Church Wrestling (Hour 2)
This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: arrogance or ignorance? We take your calls and comments, and we come to a consensus. Listen in to find out! BREAKING NEWS: The House of Representatives was able to resolve their first Speaker vote before gaveling out, and Mike Johnson will retain his position. The Republicans Take Their Ball And Go Home (Hour 1)
Today is a very important day for the US government. As we begin our broadcast, the House of Representatives is holding their election for Speaker of the House. The House cannot legally do business without a speaker, so if they don’t have one by Monday, they will not be able to confirm the 2024 election. From his time working for a congressman, Todd is familiar with the inner workings of these votes, and he helps us understand the chaos. Ultimately, the first vote failed with neither Johnson nor Jeffries securing a majority. Hopefully we don’t have a repeat of the Kevin McCarthy fiasco! Todd finishes up our first hour with an examination of the Democratic party’s use of language from Senator Brian Schatz. At the end of the day, the party is too focused on using very particular phrases and words. According to Schatz and people like Ben Wikler, regular people get turned off by things like “Latinx” and “Green New Deal.” Todd wholeheartedly agrees. Seriously, Wash Your Damn Hands. (Hour 2)
After more discussion on Mike Johnson’s precarious Speakership, Todd asks us What’s Worse: mid-week holidays or middle managers? As if the tragedies of the last week aren’t enough, our country is experiencing a norovirus outbreak. Norovirus is a very dangerous and contagious illness, and Todd walks us through how to prevent it. The biggest takeaway? Don’t forget to wash your hands! Don’t forget to wash your hands! Practice good food hygiene as best you can. The Todd Allbaugh Show is a part of the Civic Media radio network and airs Monday through Friday from 12 - 2 pm across Wisconsin. Breaking Down The First Fox News Lies Of 2025 (Hour 1)
Welcome to our first live show of 2025! Unfortunately, we must begin the year by covering some tragic events from the last two days. First, Todd updates us on a school bus accident in Sussex that resulted in the death of a kindergartener this morning. Not much is publicly known at this time, but Civic Media will keep us all in the loop. Also this morning, the Wisconsin Elections Commission announced that it will be investigating how the city of Madison failed to process nearly 200 absentee ballots in November’s presidential election. Todd agrees that this investigation is an important step in ensuring election integrity in our state. As you have likely heard, an individual attacked a crowd during New Year’s Eve celebrations in New Orleans. The death toll has reached 15, with dozens more injured. Todd walks us through the known details of this horrific event and how they contrast with a lot of the initial media coverage. While the alleged perpetrator was a US citizen and veteran, Fox News claimed that he was an illegal immigrant and that this only happened because of loose border regulations. If an individual only watches Fox News, their knowledge of this attack is likely completely fabricated. At the end of the hour, Todd briefly touches on tomorrow’s consequential House Speaker election. If Mike Johnson or any other candidate cannot secure the votes, we may have an unprecedented situation on our hands. The House needs a speaker to operate, and the House must operate in order to certify November’s election. Now that the station is part of the Civic Media radio network, you can listen in via the app and join in! Phil himself calls in to give us the details! Call (608) 647-2111 to sign your team up and play from 6 pm to midnight. You’ll have a chance to beat Todd’s team, Never Gonna Quiz You Up. Be careful, because you just might learn something! Luke Doesn’t Believe In Pre-Tied Bowties (Hour 1)
Happy New Year’s Eve! As we make our way into 2025, enjoy yourself responsibly. If you plan to drink, make a plan to get home safely without driving. After some discussion on tonight’s upcoming celebrations, Todd shifts to a more serious topic. After what appears to be a triple homicide in New Lisbon, WI, Virgil Thew is considered armed and dangerous. If you know of his whereabouts, do not approach. Instead, please call 911. According to Axios, President-elect Trump has endorsed Mike Johnson to maintain his position as Speaker of the House. With a margin of one vote, this endorsement may not be enough to avoid the chaos that Kevin McCarthy faced earlier this year. At the bottom of the hour, Todd is joined by Civic Media’s own Luke Mathers for some Tuesday Tangents! They talk about where New Year’s Eve sits in their holiday rankings and delve into Luke’s sordid bowtie-related past. After that, we ask for Luke’s Packers predictions as we near the end of the NFL season. Barney Rubble Advocates For Screech Over Slater (Hour 2)
Todd kicks off our second hour with tributes to Linda Lavin and Greg Gumble, two other legends who passed away over the last week. For today’s edition of What’s Worse, Todd asks us if we’d rather lose our phones or our keys. President-elect Trump has not yet taken office, and the MAGA party is already divided on immigration policy. Elon Musk believes that our country needs to bring in highly skilled immigrants to boost our engineering capabilities. Whether or not one agrees with this approach, it flies in the face of Trump’s “America First” mass deportation rhetoric. Vivek Ramaswamy, the Barney Rubble to Elon Musk’s Fred Flintstone, sees this as a cultural issue. According to him, Americans value jocks over valedictorians. However, when considering the actions of the actors, his example of Slater vs Screech from Saved By The Bell doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. On The Ground In Green Bay with Mike Clemens (Hour 2)
For today’s edition of What’s Worse, Todd asks whether we feel worse on Sunday nights or Monday mornings. At the bottom of the hour, Civic Media Sports Reporter Mike Clemens calls in to prepare us for some Monday Night Football! We get his opinion on quarterback Jordan Love’s bizarre Toyotathon performance jump. Aaron’s board game of the week is a great last-minute stocking stuffer: Seers Catalog! Take on the role of a seer with limited space to protect the village from werewolves. Each player tries to get rid of almost all of their cards, keeping just the highest value items. Holiday Football Review with Bradie Ewing (Hour 1)
Happy Holidays! In our last live show before Christmas, Todd catches us up on the news of the weekend. Earlier this morning, the House Ethics Committee released their report on Matt Gaetz and his alleged sexual misconduct. The evidence corroborating these events is horrifying. Nearly as horrifying is the fact that President-elect Donald Trump was aware of the events in this report before nominating Gaetz for Attorney General. At the bottom of the hour, our friend Bradie Ewing returns to the show to talk about football and holiday celebrations. As a three-time Big 10 champion and a former NFL fullback, his insights into the world of sports continue to be invaluable. Weekly Best of Todd Allbaugh Show for Dec 21
From Wednesday's show: Why We Can’t Just “Move On” From 2020 (Hour 1) It’s Wednesday, and that means Pat Kreitlow of UpNorthNews Radio is here! At the beginning of the show, Todd brings us the latest updates on Monday’s shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison. Investigations on the shooter’s family suggest a broken home life, but as Pat reminds us, there are broken homes and strained relationships all around the world. What other countries don’t have is America’s wide access to firearms. From Thursday's show: Why We Should Expand Badgercare (Hour 1) At the bottom of the hour, we are joined by Shawn Phetteplace, the Campaigns Director of Main Street Alliance! He tells us all about Main Street Alliance and how it differs from other organizations like Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce. While WMC primarily supports larger companies, MSA seeks to prop up a more diverse range of small businesses. They are part of what makes Wisconsin great. Wisconsin is one of only ten states that haven’t accepted new federal funding to expand Medicaid over the last ten years. One of MSA’s current objectives is to help convince our state government to do the right thing and support Badgercare. This directly hurts small business owners and employees in our state. The “Barstool Sports-ification” Of Political News (Hour 1)
We begin today’s show with some breaking news. Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes has been selected as the next Police Chief of Seattle, Washington. According to the mayor of Seattle, the “performance” of Chief Barnes when addressing this week’s tragic Madison shooting played a part in getting him the job. Last night, the continuing resolution (CR) to keep our government running failed to pass in the House of Representatives. Despite what they may say on social media, Republicans have control of the House and are wholly responsible for this potential government shutdown. This situation is complex, but Todd has an analogy to bring it down where the chickens can get at it. Barstool Sports is an incredibly successful media company with a focus on college sports and pop culture. One of the secrets to their success is an intentional heavy bias. If somebody only listens to their team’s Barstool Sports channel, they hear a picture of a wonderful team on the path to perfection regardless of actual performance. Political news is divided in much the same way. At the bottom of the hour, Luke Mathers joins us for a belated round of Tuesday Tangents! He and Todd go over Elon Musk’s incredible return on investment after Trump won this year’s election. Why We Should Expand Badgercare (Hour 1)
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Nearly every single county in Wisconsin is under some sort of Winter weather advisory. Todd updates us on where the biggest storms are headed and what driving conditions are like. Almost all roads around the state are under ice and/or snow, so drive slowly and safely! Recently, a Dane County circuit judge struck down significant portions of Act 10. However, yesterday afternoon, this decision was put on hold while GOP legislators are working to appeal the case. It’s not over until it’s over, and this ruling is very much up in the air. In other news, Todd has found himself agreeing with Republicans! This doesn’t happen often, but this time, it has to do with allocation of funds for UW schools. Once again, Jay Rothman and the UW Board of Regents are operating in secret, and it sure looks like they’re choking out our university system. At the bottom of the hour, we are joined by Shawn Phetteplace, the Campaigns Director of Main Street Alliance! Legacy Media’s Struggles Are Far From Over (Hour 2)
There are only a few days left in Civic Media’s Grown Up Gift List Text-To-Win Contest! Listen to any Civic Media station on air or via the app for up to four chances each day to win $100 cash or a free stay at Chula Vista resort! You’ll also be entered to win one of our eight grand prizes. The contest continues through Friday, December 20th, so stay tuned. You’ll have to listen live to enter, so if you missed it, head over to civicmedia.us to learn more. Today, Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project is in Madison for some meetings, so he joins us in-studio during our second hour! He weighs in as Todd asks What’s Worse: going up stairs or going down stairs? Todd and Trygve also take calls with your political questions about money in politics. Over the weekend, we discovered that ABC News and George Stephanopolous agreed to settle a lawsuit with Donald Trump for approximately $16 million. With other arguably frivolous lawsuits being leveled against people like pollster Ann Selzer, this capitulation sets a dangerous precedent. Will all legacy media outlets give in to legal pressure and essentially admit to things they didn’t do? Why We Can’t Just “Move On” From 2020 (Hour 1)
It’s Wednesday, and that means Pat Kreitlow of UpNorthNews Radio is here! Trygve Olson is actually here in Madison, so he will be joining us in the second hour. Four years later, Wisconsin’s fake electors are finally beginning to suffer legal consequences for their actions. Yesterday, when asked about these developments, former Governor Tommy Thompson said that we should all move on. This rhetoric lies in stark contrast to the actions of the GOP after losing that election. Is it time to move on, or should those responsible for attempting to steal an election be held accountable? We take your calls with opinions. Todd rounds out the hour by sharing some great reporting from WORT on the astronomical $51 million that the UW System has been spending on consultants. Working Through Tragedy Together with Trygve Olson (Hour 1)
Todd has made it back from Seattle a bit earlier than expected. Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project was intending to guest host the show today, but in light of yesterday’s tragic shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, he and Todd are hosting together. As somebody who has lost a child, Trygve has a unique insight on the impact of events like these on families and communities. Todd begins with a review of the information we know so far before asking the question: when is the right time to have policy discussions after tragic events? Is there even a real chance we can enact change while MAGA Republicans have control of our government? GOP Reps Are Neglecting Child Abuse Survivors (Hour 1)
It’s Wednesday, and that means a visit from Pat Kreitlow of UpNorthNews Radio and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project! Todd reads from an article in Mother Jones about concerning cuts to programs that help child abuse survivors. This is not hypothetical, and it’s having real impact right here in our state. Politicians like Tom Tiffany are putting corporate interests over taking care of abused children in Hayward, and we must remember this next time he’s up for reelection. After that discussion, Todd and Trygve answer questions from listeners about what may happen under President-elect Trump. Between cabinet picks, mass deportation and terminating constitutional amendments, we will have to wait and see how it all pans out. Don’t Play Possum With Real Possums (Hour 1)
We have some breaking news! Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul is finally taking action against our state’s slate of false electors from 2020. While other states took action against their false electors promptly, Wisconsin didn’t do anything until June of this year. Even in this new filing, Kaul is not actually charging the electors themselves. What exactly does this new filing do, and why is it happening four years later? Two-time State Democratic Chair, attorney, author and friend Matt Flynn joins us to talk through how this may shake out. At the bottom of the hour, Luke Mathers brings us another fresh edition of Tuesday Tangents! After touching on today’s legal news, he and Todd shift to talk about baseball. After going through a few of the world’s biggest headlines from the weekend, Todd returns to a call from one of our listeners at the end of the first hour. As we speculate about President-elect Trump’s mass deportation plans, this caller reminds us of an important fact: neither political party has been willing to adequately fund immigration reform for at least the last forty years. Under former Congressman Scott Klug, Todd spent a few years working on immigration issues, so he can confirm that both sides of American politics have been complicit. Lesson Of The Year: Don’t Buy Air with Peter Rapine (Hour 1)
Today, Todd broadcasts live from the WRCE studios in Richland Center! Right off the bat, he is joined by his old boss, former Republican State Senate Majority Leader Dale Schultz. After catching up on football and hunting, Dale and Todd return to the ever-important topic of civility in politics. They also reflect on the impact of Scott Walker’s Act 10 on Wisconsin’s social structure and economy. On the topic of treating each other with respect, Dale recommends the book Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community by Robert Putnam. This examination of American social trends from the year 2000 still rings true today, and it’s worth a read. If you’d rather watch a movie on that topic, Netflix is streaming JOIN OR DIE, a film based on the book and how to apply its lessons. This week, Peter Rapine joins us an hour early for another week in review! As Managing Editor of eBaum’s World, he is always ready to share the craziest stories of real things that real people have done.
