The Todd Allbaugh Show turns three next week, and since the very beginning, we have pursued the truth about UW System two-year campus closures. While every governmental organization has opportunities to “trim the fat,” these closures have taken place under an incredibly suspicious veil of secrecy. The scant information we do get from the Board of Regents leads Todd to an uncomfortable conclusion: both Republicans and Democrats are probably in on it. The current lack of food assistance is affecting more than just human food. Families who are strapped for cash may also be struggling to feed their pets. Dane County Humane Society is holding a drive to help people keep their pets happy and healthy. You can get involved at giveshelter.org if you’re in the Madison area, but check your local humane society to see what you can do elsewhere around the state.  This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: turkey bacon or turkey sausage? Earlier this morning, President Trump announced that he is refusing to fund SNAP (AKA food stamps) after being ordered to by a federal court. To break down this possible impending constitutional crisis is our friend and legal expert Matt Flynn. Over the weekend, Giannis Antetokounmpo says he fought off a would-be purse snatcher in a Pick ‘n Save. Wisconsin really does seem to have some of the nicest pro athletes.  Using the Badgers football team and the Packers as examples respectively, Todd asks us What’s Worse: disappointment or frustration? This last weekend, we celebrated Halloween and watched a lot of sports. Todd recaps the World Series results and Sunday’s NFL games before turning to a brief bite of political news. Last week, we talked about President Trump’s plan to flood the American market with Argentinian beef to lower prices. Former Badger and NFL player Joe Thomas is now a Wisconsin beef farmer, and we visited his farm earlier this year. Happy Halloween! If you’re going to be driving around tonight, be on alert for children running into the street.  In national news, a Rhode Island federal judge has ruled that it is unlawful for the Trump administration to cease paying SNAP benefits this weekend with the government shut down. Whether or not this action returns funding to the program, there are things we can do in our communities. If we are able, we should donate time, money, and/or food to local food pantries to help out our neighbors.  Halloween isn’t the only holiday this time of year. The day after Halloween is the Latino holiday Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead in English. Juan Garcia joins us to tell us about Somos Votantes, a Latino-led, Latino-focused organization that strives to inspire more civic engagement. The Trump administration is raising the difficulty on our citizenship test, requiring twice as many questions to be naturalized. In our second hour, Todd brings us an update on the UW-Platteville Baraboo campus closure. Two days ago, the Cap Times shared remarks from State Sen. Sarah Keyeski, State Rep. Karen DeSanto, and State Sen. Kelda Roys, who all expressed disappointment at this abrupt closure. To our knowledge, along with Katrina Shankland, these three Democrats are the only elected officials to speak out against the dismantling of our two-year campuses. No Republicans, and not even our education Governor Tony Evers.  At the beginning of today’s show, Todd expressed some of his frustration with the deluge of depressing news. Over the last week or so, we’ve been following the Cap Times’ reporting on the Wisconsin DPI’s lack of transparency. Well, State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly continues to compound the issue with her relentless silence. She did not attend yesterday’s hearing on the matter, sending her staff so she could attend an awards ceremony in Indiana. At the very least, Dr. Underly owes the taxpayers of Wisconsin an explanation, but Todd says he thinks it’s time for her to take a step further and resign.  In other Wisconsin news, President Trump today declined to provide disaster relief to the Milwaukee area for its extreme flood damage. If our state’s Republicans can’t even get their own side to help Wisconsin when we clearly need it, they don’t deserve to have their offices.  At the bottom of the hour, Richland County beef producer David Unbehaun calls in from his combine. He shares his perspective on our president’s tariffs and other policies, as well as Trump’s recent comments on Argentinian beef. Ultimately, between nonsensical trade deals, defunding healthcare, and more delays on the farm bill, the federal government is leaving Wisconsin farmers behind. This past weekend, seven million citizens peacefully took to the streets to participate in another No Kings protest. The event went off so smoothly that even MAGA House Speaker Mike Johnson had to remark that it was impressively nonviolent.  This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: bad dancing or bad singing? Yet another promise has been broken by our President.  It turns out that President Trump was right about the danger of the weekend’s No Kings protests. However, he was incorrect about where the danger came from. The Marines fired live ammunition across a California interstate, and it exploded prematurely over the highway. Had Governor Gavin Newsom not closed the highway against military advice, people could have been severely injured. As we begin a new week, Todd brings us some breaking news: Republican Party of Wisconsin Treasurer Kelly Ruh has resigned, penning a scathing letter to RPW that has been made public.  In other Wisconsin news, Congressman Derrick Van Orden is joining with the American Dairy Coalition to advocate for immigration reform to support agricultural labor. However, his efforts are too little too late. He demonstrates a lack of understanding of our immigration system or how this affects industries outside of agriculture. Additionally, this stance directly opposes Van Orden’s voting record on the Trump administration’s budget reconciliation from earlier this year. Speaking of President Trump, his plan to lower food prices in the US is to undercut Wisconsin farmers by importing Argentinian beef.  At the bottom of the hour, Wisconsin Watch State Government and Politics Reporter Brittany Carloni joins us to share her latest work. As somebody who only recently moved back to Wisconsin herself, she is acutely aware that our state is experiencing a housing crisis. Her article begins with a startling figure: while WI housing costs have risen 120% over the last decade, wages have only risen 50%. However, it’s not all doom and gloom. There are a few bills making their way through the state legislature that may help ease the pain. Brittany also spoke with gubernatorial candidates about their approaches to this core issue. BREAKING NEWS: This afternoon, staff at UW-Platteville’s Baraboo Sauk County campus received an email informing them that the campus will “cease operations” this coming May. Todd has been following these two-year campus closures for nearly three years now, and precious few UW-System staff or elected officials will even acknowledge that it is happening. The typical partisan blame game has been replaced with bipartisan silence when it comes to this issue. We speak with former Republican State Senate Majority Leader Dale Schultz, who has always been a big advocate for government transparency. He is equally appalled by this slow and silent culling of schools. The Board of Regents, the Governor, and the Joint Finance Committee owe it to the people of Wisconsin to explain what’s going on.  In other disturbing Wisconsin education news, Cap Times reported a few days ago that over 200 teacher sexual misconduct investigations have been hidden from the public. Allegedly, many accused individuals abused a loophole in our state’s rules that allows them to surrender their teaching license in exchange for keeping the incident confidential. While the alleged offenders may not be teachers anymore, they can still work with children in other capacities. State Superintendent Jill Underly has declined to comment on the matter. While the Trump administration is using this event to gloat, former President Biden responded on his Twitter/X account with the grace and respect traditionally associated with the office.  In yet another underreported major national news story, news outlets across the political spectrum are declining to sign the Trump administration’s newest press agreement. The document essentially forbids journalists from asking questions or reporting on anything not explicitly permitted by the Pentagon. We’re not lawyers, but this seems like a pretty clear violation of the first amendment. Even conservative pro-Trump outlets like Fox News and Newsmax are opting out.
