Tossed Salads And Scrambled Eggs (Hour 2)
After sharing our daily Wisconsin Fun Fact, Todd asks us What’s Worse: scrambled eggs or over-easy eggs? People have strong opinions about how their eggs are cooked, and we take your calls and texts to hear a few of them. At the bottom of the hour, Todd pivots to national news and the consequences of the current government shutdown. He updates us on the status of SNAP food assistance payments and flight cancellations. Jay Rothman Isn’t Done Demolishing The Wisconsin Idea (Hour 1)
The Todd Allbaugh Show turns three next week, and since the very beginning, we have pursued the truth about UW System two-year campus closures. While every governmental organization has opportunities to “trim the fat,” these closures have taken place under an incredibly suspicious veil of secrecy. The scant information we do get from the Board of Regents leads Todd to an uncomfortable conclusion: both Republicans and Democrats are probably in on it. If you don’t like it, call your representatives and the Board of Regents or UW System and demand that they make their meeting notes public. At the bottom of the hour, Civic Media Political Editor and Founder of The Recombobulation Area Dan Shafer joins us once again to help us put the pieces together. Does Artificial Intelligence Belong In Music? (Hour 2)
This morning on CBS Mornings, Gayle King interviewed Telisha “Nikki” Jones, creator of the AI artist Xania Monet. Jones writes lyrics and uses AI tools to generate the music from nothing. Is this ethical? AI isn’t going away, and we need to find its place in society. We take a lot of calls and texts with your thoughts. Dems Won Big Yesterday, But They Can’t Get Cocky (Hour 1)
We begin today’s show with a quick public service announcement: according to WKBT in La Crosse, there is an Instagram account impersonating the WIAA and asking for personal information. We urge all listeners to use caution and only share your information via official channels. After that, we welcome Pat Kreitlow of Mornings with Pat Kreitlow and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project to weigh in on the news of the day. At the bottom of the hour, State Senator and gubernatorial candidate Kelda Roys stops by to share her analysis of yesterday’s election results. We may not have had an election here in Wisconsin, but Sen. Roys says she believes there are lessons to be applied in our state. Zommers Won’t Stop Velveting His Chicken (Hour 2)
The current lack of food assistance is affecting more than just human food. Families who are strapped for cash may also be struggling to feed their pets. Dane County Humane Society is holding a drive to help people keep their pets happy and healthy. You can get involved at giveshelter.org if you’re in the Madison area, but check your local humane society to see what you can do elsewhere around the state. This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: turkey bacon or turkey sausage? We take some calls and texts before getting distracted by Aaron’s new chicken velveting technique. Earlier today, former Vice President Dick Cheney passed away at the age of 84. He has a complicated history, to say the least. Todd gives us a quick recount of Cheney’s role in America, for better and for worse. Breaking: Trump Says He Won’t Fund Food Assistance (Hour 1)
Earlier this morning, President Trump announced that he is refusing to fund SNAP (AKA food stamps) after being ordered to by a federal court. To break down this possible impending constitutional crisis is our friend and legal expert Matt Flynn. He and Todd consider the legal ramifications and likelihood that Trump will back down from this statement. Next year, Wisconsin will have some very important elections. At the bottom of the hour, Wisconsin Watch State Government and Politics Reporter Brittany Carloni joins us in-studio to cover the most important things to keep tabs on in the coming months. Feeding Kids Should Transcend Politics (Hour 2)
Over the weekend, Giannis Antetokounmpo says he fought off a would-be purse snatcher in a Pick ‘n Save. Wisconsin really does seem to have some of the nicest pro athletes. Using the Badgers football team and the Packers as examples respectively, Todd asks us What’s Worse: disappointment or frustration? We take some texts and calls on whether it stings worse to be sad or angry when things go awry. After What’s Worse, Todd returns to national politics that affect us in Wisconsin. SNAP food benefits are in an incredibly precarious position under the federal government shutdown. A few federal courts have ordered the Trump administration to at least partially fund the program, but it remains to be seen how this will shake out. A lot of public figures who typically stay out of politics have come out of the woodwork to share their disappointment. Doc Rivers of the Milwaukee Bucks shares his belief that feeding kids shouldn’t be political, and for what it’s worth, we agree. Anna Kleiber at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel shares real ways we can help in one of her latest articles. Mondays with Matenaer: Jane’s Big Announcement (Hour 1)
This last weekend, we celebrated Halloween and watched a lot of sports. Todd recaps the World Series results and Sunday’s NFL games before turning to a brief bite of political news. Last week, we talked about President Trump’s plan to flood the American market with Argentinian beef to lower prices. Former Badger and NFL player Joe Thomas is now a Wisconsin beef farmer, and we visited his farm earlier this year. All politics aside, he believes that this is a shortsighted move from our government. He walks us through the reasons why. At the bottom of the hour, we have another edition of Mondays with Matenaer. This morning, Jane Matenaer announced that after 44 years in radio, she will be retiring this December. We take some time to share our gratitude with her before covering the latest news. Halloween Monkey Business with Peter Rapine (Hour 2)
This afternoon, our What’s Worse is timely– timely, indeed. Todd asks us What’s Worse: Snickers or Kit Kat? We take some calls and texts on your favorite and least favorite Halloween candy. At the bottom of the hour, our friend Peter Rapine returns. As the Managing Editor of eBaum’s World, he has his finger on the pulse of the craziest stuff that real people are doing. Here are the stories Peter shares with us this week: There’s a Monkey With Hepatitis C and Herpes Loose in Mississippi Cop Shows Up to Virtual Court Clearly Not Wearing Pants Trump Put Candy On a Kid’s Head Again The Internet Is Divided About How You’re Supposed to Pee at a Urinal People Are Finding Out Coffee Pods Contain Ground-Up Cockroaches, and They’re Not Happy Toronto Mom Says Her Tesla’s AI Asked Her Son for Nudes Diaper-Wearing Monkey Seen Swinging from the Rafters of a Spirit Halloween The Todd Allbaugh Show is a part of the Civic Media radio network and airs live Monday through Friday from 2-4 pm across Wisconsin. Celebrating Halloween and Día de los Muertos (Hour 1)
Happy Halloween! If you’re going to be driving around tonight, be on alert for children running into the street. In national news, a Rhode Island federal judge has ruled that it is unlawful for the Trump administration to cease paying SNAP benefits this weekend with the government shut down. Whether or not this action returns funding to the program, there are things we can do in our communities. If we are able, we should donate time, money, and/or food to local food pantries to help out our neighbors. Halloween isn’t the only holiday this time of year. The day after Halloween is the Latino holiday Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead in English. Juan Garcia joins us to tell us about Somos Votantes, a Latino-led, Latino-focused organization that strives to inspire more civic engagement. Bad Tattoos and Big Bombs (Hour 2)
The Trump administration is raising the difficulty on our citizenship test, requiring twice as many questions to be naturalized. We look through the questions to see if Todd would pass. Tattoos and piercings are great ways to express yourself, but we all know somebody who has some questionable ink. This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: bad tattoos or bad piercings? We take calls and texts with some of your favorite horror stories. Recently in California, the Marines fired live rounds over an interstate that detonated prematurely. Earlier this month, the Navy fired live 2,000 pound bombs during their 250th anniversary celebration. New reporting from AP claims that President Trump’s personal requests to “see explosions” are behind these ill-advised uses of weaponry. How Billionaires Are Controlling Us With Our Pets (Hour 1)
We’re one day closer to the end of the month, and the federal government still hasn’t reopened. If this continues through tomorrow, SNAP (AKA food stamps) will run out for the first time in 60 years, leaving many Americans without food. After sharing his personal story, Todd walks through some ways we can help our neighbors at food pantries. Chuck Collins is the grandson of Oscar Meyer- and yes, we mean that Oscar Meyer. At a young age, he decided to give most of his inherited fortune away, and he has now joined the Patriotic Millionaires. At the bottom of the hour, he joins us to discuss his new book. BURNED BY BILLIONAIRES: How Concentrated Wealth and Power Are Ruining Our Lives and Planet details what he has seen from the inside. The richest people in the world are actively dedicating their lives to draining wealth from the rest of us, and it touches us in unexpected ways. We delve into an excerpt from the book that explains how billionaires are exploiting our relationships with our pets. Wrapped Around Your Finger (Hour 2)
This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: paper cuts or slivers? We take your calls and texts on which minor finger injury hurts more. After checking in on the downtown Madison trick-or-treat event, Todd turns to the results of a few current political polls. The results show that Americans believe that President Trump should follow the rule of law. Protecting Kids Shouldn’t Be Partisan (Hour 1)
This Wednesday, Pat Kreitlow of Mornings with Pat Kreitlow and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project hop on the show for their weekly recap of the latest political news. Between new gubernatorial candidates and unexpected congressional endorsements, there’s a lot to break down. Pat and Todd also strongly disagree on the current Department of Public Instruction conundrum. Your Insurance Premiums May Triple (Hour 2)
If the federal government is still shut down at the end of this week, SNAP benefits will pause, leaving many Americans unable to afford food. On top of this, if congress doesn’t continue the Affordable Care Act subsidies, insurance premiums will vastly increase for Wisconsinites. Todd runs through some shocking numbers from Governor Evers that paint a dire picture of our state’s financial future. Many families will be paying double or even above triple their current premiums. This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: raking leaves or cleaning gutters? We take your calls and texts on which Autumn chore is more of a bore. Todd also follows up on yesterday’s story about big changes at CBS and other media outlets. The integrity of major news outlets has been in question for some time now, but it looks like we’re headed for another cliff. The True Cost Of Data Centers (Hour 1)
Beginning today’s show, Todd touches briefly on the biggest international news today. As many anticipated, the latest Israel-Hamas ceasefire agreement is breaking down. Back here at home in Wisconsin, yet another data center is being proposed in the village of DeForest. While these centers create a lot of temporary jobs and a few long-term ones, they are likely to significantly raise energy costs for all of us. Data centers can also negatively impact our natural resources. Todd takes your calls and dives deep into why this matters to every Wisconsinite. If your community has town halls on proposed data centers, do your best to attend and ask questions. We have to hold these companies accountable. To wrap up the hour, Todd talks about some of the skills we can develop to keep our careers AI-proof. The Todd Allbaugh Show is a part of the Civic Media radio network and airs live Monday through Friday from 2-4 pm across Wisconsin. Subscribe to the podcast so you don’t miss a single episode! Abandoned Anchors, Boiled Brats and Closed Campuses (Hour 2)
In our second hour, Todd brings us some major media news: CBS Evening News co-anchor John Dickerson will be leaving at the end of this year. This departure follows a series of acquisitions and mergers that appear to leave CBS and other media outlets under more politically conservative control. Todd walks us through what may be happening behind the scenes. The typical grilling season may be coming to a close, but tailgating season is still going strong. This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: Johnsonville brats or Klement’s brats? We take your calls and texts on the subtleties of brat flavor and texture and we listen to a few classic brat advertisements. Since the very beginning of The Todd Allbaugh Show, we have followed the string of two-year UW campus closures. Last week, Universities of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman made an appearance to address the end of instruction at the Baraboo campus. However, he gave more of the same non-answers we’ve been getting for the last few years. Aside from about four current and former state-level Democrats, no elected officials on either side of the aisle will address this continual problem. Todd wraps up the show with a look at how much the average American spends on celebrating Halloween, and it’s probably a lot more than you’re guessing. Mondays with Matenaer – The Political Tribal Council (Hour 1)
Happy Monday! Todd kicks off today’s show by recounting the weekend’s football games. The Badgers suffered an unsurprising loss, while the Packers brought home a win against former quarterback Aaron Rodgers. It’s been another week, and the federal government is still shut down. If they can’t figure out a deal by Friday, SNAP benefits (AKA food stamps) will run out and many Americans will be unable to afford food. At the bottom of the hour, Jane hops in for another edition of Mondays with Matenaer! Today, we tackle tribalism in American politics. Both Republicans and Democrats are too hasty in circling the wagons rather than calling out problems on their own sides. Naturally, Todd and Jane poke at the sore spots. The Republicans don’t want us to talk about how they caused the government shutdown, and Wisconsin Democrats won’t acknowledge Dr. Jill Underly’s apparent dereliction of duty in the Department of Public Instruction. Weekly Best of Todd Allbaugh Show for Oct 25
Why Fickell Is Floundering with Bradie Ewing (Hour 2)
In our second hour, Todd brings us an update on the UW-Platteville Baraboo campus closure. Two days ago, the Cap Times shared remarks from State Sen. Sarah Keyeski, State Rep. Karen DeSanto, and State Sen. Kelda Roys, who all expressed disappointment at this abrupt closure. To our knowledge, along with Katrina Shankland, these three Democrats are the only elected officials to speak out against the dismantling of our two-year campuses. No Republicans, and not even our education Governor Tony Evers. At the beginning of today’s show, Todd expressed some of his frustration with the deluge of depressing news. We give a rapid-fire look at some of the crazy stuff happening at the national level. At the bottom of the hour, our favorite two-time B1G champion and former NFL fullback Bradie Ewing returns to the program! Bradie has been a part of some hugely successful teams, so Todd asks for his insights on why the Badgers football team is struggling so hard. Our Elected Officials Can’t (Or Won’t) Help Wisconsin (Hour 1)
Over the last week or so, we’ve been following the Cap Times’ reporting on the Wisconsin DPI’s lack of transparency. Well, State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly continues to compound the issue with her relentless silence. She did not attend yesterday’s hearing on the matter, sending her staff so she could attend an awards ceremony in Indiana. At the very least, Dr. Underly owes the taxpayers of Wisconsin an explanation, but Todd says he thinks it’s time for her to take a step further and resign. In other Wisconsin news, President Trump today declined to provide disaster relief to the Milwaukee area for its extreme flood damage. If our state’s Republicans can’t even get their own side to help Wisconsin when we clearly need it, they don’t deserve to have their offices. At the bottom of the hour, Richland County beef producer David Unbehaun calls in from his combine. He shares his perspective on our president’s tariffs and other policies, as well as Trump’s recent comments on Argentinian beef. Ultimately, between nonsensical trade deals, defunding healthcare, and more delays on the farm bill, the federal government is leaving Wisconsin farmers behind. Wisconsin Fall Flavors and a USPS Encounter (Hour 2)
Todd Allbaugh explores the beauty of fall in Wisconsin, sharing tales of visits to local orchards like Oakwood Fruit Farm, indulging in cider donuts, caramel apples, and other autumn delights. Amidst the joy of Wisconsin's seasonal offerings, a poignant story emerges of a U.S. Postal Service worker almost detained by ICE while on duty, highlighting issues of racial profiling and identity verification. The episode balances light-hearted discussions on favorite fall treats with a serious look at societal challenges, underscoring the importance of community, awareness, and the simple pleasures of life in Wisconsin. Beef Battles and Education Escapades (Hour 1)
Todd Allbaugh delves into Wisconsin's educational controversy as Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly faces scrutiny for avoiding a legislative committee hearing about allegations involving schools. Meanwhile, beef farmers are beefing with Trump over plans to import cheaper Argentinian beef, potentially undercutting local markets. Todd dons his Joe Thomas Hall of Fame beef hat, takes a nostalgic trip to Richland County, and shares local delicacies. In between, listeners weigh in, providing lively debate on both topics. It's a mix of local charm, political drama, and a hearty dose of Wisconsin pride. This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: wedding showers or baby showers? Also, why do we only shower married couples with gifts? We take your calls and texts. At the bottom of the hour, Todd gives us another update on Badger athletics and Luke Fickell’s failure as a coach. Autocrats Always Signal Their Intentions (Hour 1)
This afternoon, Pat Kreitlow of Mornings with Pat Kreitlow and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project make their typical Wednesday appearance to break down the news of the day. Firstly, Todd asks them their thoughts on the Department of Public Instruction’s lack of transparency in reporting teacher license investigations. Our trio also touches on the state of news itself around our state and the country. Local newspapers have been dying out for years, and Indiana University’s student paper is now being shut down under questionable circumstances. Meanwhile, a student newspaper is still holding down the fort in Pulaski. On Transparency In Wisconsin Public Schools (Hour 2)
This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: trying not to sneeze or trying not to yawn? We take your calls and texts on which is harder to stifle. At the bottom of the hour, we welcome Cap Times Enterprise and Investigative Reporter Danielle DuClos. Danielle is the author of last week’s article calling out Wisconsin’s Department of Public Instruction on some questionable practices surrounding alleged sexual misconduct cases. She has been following this trail of records for a few years now and is ready to bring us the facts. Making Argentina Great Again (Hour 1)
Last week, the Cap Times published an article alleging that over 200 teacher sexual misconduct investigations were hidden from public view. Between this and other stories reported by Wisconsin Public Radio, a shadow of doubt is being cast upon the Department of Public Instruction. State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly has been oddly silent for the past couple of years, declining interviews with Civic Media and other outlets. This topic has been no different. Todd gives us the details before we speak to the article’s author in hour two. At the bottom of the hour, Todd returns to a story from this weekend. Rather than backing down from his disastrous tariff plan, President Trump says he wants to make agriculture deals with Argentina to effectively undercut Wisconsin farmers. MAGA’s Reckless Endangerment Never Ends (Hour 2)
This past weekend, seven million citizens peacefully took to the streets to participate in another No Kings protest. The event went off so smoothly that even MAGA House Speaker Mike Johnson had to remark that it was impressively nonviolent. This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: bad dancing or bad singing? We take your calls and texts on whether an affront to the eyes or ears bothers you more. BREAKING NEWS: following claims that Trump’s new ballroom wouldn’t interfere with the existing White House buildings, demolition has begun on its East facade. Yet another promise has been broken by our President. It turns out that President Trump was right about the danger of the weekend’s No Kings protests. However, he was incorrect about where the danger came from. The Marines fired live ammunition across a California interstate, and it exploded prematurely over the highway. Had Governor Gavin Newsom not closed the highway against military advice, people could have been severely injured. Addressing WI’s Housing Crisis with Brittany Carloni (Hour 1)
As we begin a new week, Todd brings us some breaking news: Republican Party of Wisconsin Treasurer Kelly Ruh has resigned, penning a scathing letter to RPW that has been made public. In other Wisconsin news, Congressman Derrick Van Orden is joining with the American Dairy Coalition to advocate for immigration reform to support agricultural labor. However, his efforts are too little too late. He demonstrates a lack of understanding of our immigration system or how this affects industries outside of agriculture. Additionally, this stance directly opposes Van Orden’s voting record on the Trump administration’s budget reconciliation from earlier this year. Speaking of President Trump, his plan to lower food prices in the US is to undercut Wisconsin farmers by importing Argentinian beef. At the bottom of the hour, Wisconsin Watch State Government and Politics Reporter Brittany Carloni joins us to share her latest work. As somebody who only recently moved back to Wisconsin herself, she is acutely aware that our state is experiencing a housing crisis. Her article begins with a startling figure: while WI housing costs have risen 120% over the last decade, wages have only risen 50%. However, it’s not all doom and gloom. There are a few bills making their way through the state legislature that may help ease the pain. Brittany also spoke with gubernatorial candidates about their approaches to this core issue. BREAKING: Yet Another Two-Year UW Campus Closure (Hour 1)
BREAKING NEWS: This afternoon, staff at UW-Platteville’s Baraboo Sauk County campus received an email informing them that the campus will “cease operations” this coming May. Todd has been following these two-year campus closures for nearly three years now, and precious few UW-System staff or elected officials will even acknowledge that it is happening. The typical partisan blame game has been replaced with bipartisan silence when it comes to this issue. We speak with former Republican State Senate Majority Leader Dale Schultz, who has always been a big advocate for government transparency. He is equally appalled by this slow and silent culling of schools. The Board of Regents, the Governor, and the Joint Finance Committee owe it to the people of Wisconsin to explain what’s going on. In other disturbing Wisconsin education news, Cap Times reported a few days ago that over 200 teacher sexual misconduct investigations have been hidden from the public. Allegedly, many accused individuals abused a loophole in our state’s rules that allows them to surrender their teaching license in exchange for keeping the incident confidential. While the alleged offenders may not be teachers anymore, they can still work with children in other capacities. State Superintendent Jill Underly has declined to comment on the matter. This is a serious situation that demands attention. The Todd Allbaugh Show is a part of the Civic Media radio network and airs live Monday through Friday from 2-4 pm across Wisconsin. At the bottom of the hour, Civic Media Political Editor and Founder of The Recombobulation Area Dan Shafer returns to make sense of the day’s news. WORLD PREMIERE: No Packers, No Life (Hour 1)
Today is a big day for Packers fans! Last year, we were excited to share Just A Bit Outside: The Story of the 1982 Milwaukee Brewers with the world, and now producers Sean Hanish and Paul Jaconi-Biery are back with another fantastic Wisconsin sports film. This afternoon, Todd joins us live from the Marcus Majestic Cinema for the VIP world premiere of No Packers, No Life. Directed by Craig Benzine and produced by Ty Morse, this movie shows us how the love of the game can bring people together from all around the world. It highlights the Japanese Packers cheering team, an avid group of Packers fans that meet up– even in the off-season– to watch Packers games in a Tokyo karaoke bar. After Ty Morse stumbled upon this group, he and his friends worked to get the team to the US to see a Packers game, and he couldn’t be more excited to share the story. First off, we talk about Wisconsin sports love with Pat Kreitlow of Mornings with Pat Kreitlow and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project, our usual Wednesday guests. Also joining us are producers Sean Hanish and Paul Jaconi-Biery At the bottom of the hour, we welcome Craig Benzine, the director of No Packers, No Life. He’s an established YouTuber who worked with Ty to piece together the film. He walks us through the journey from idea to completion and how he met Sean and Paul to get the movie into theatres. Head to nopackersnolife.com to learn more. This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: a dinner roll or no dinner roll? We take some calls and texts on how many carbs you can handle. We wrap up today’s show with a review of last night’s Brewers game and some excitement for tonight. They may have lost, but they’re looking great against the Dodgers, so they stand a real chance. The Pentagon Is Pushing Out The Press (Hour 1)
After a preview of today’s show, Todd dives back into a story we touched on yesterday: the latest Israel-Hamas ceasefire and hostage release. While the Trump administration is using this event to gloat, former President Biden responded on his Twitter/X account with the grace and respect traditionally associated with the office. In yet another underreported major national news story, news outlets across the political spectrum are declining to sign the Trump administration’s newest press agreement. The document essentially forbids journalists from asking questions or reporting on anything not explicitly permitted by the Pentagon. We’re not lawyers, but this seems like a pretty clear violation of the first amendment. Even conservative pro-Trump outlets like Fox News and Newsmax are opting out. This Wednesday, October 15th, at the Marcus Majestic Cinema in Waukesha, Todd will be covering the VIP world premiere of No Packers, No Life. Towards the end of the show, Todd catches us up on some of the consequences of the current federal government shutdown. In many parts of the country, active duty military servicepeople are lining up in droves outside of food pantries. Mondays with Matenaer: Self-Reflection Is GOOD (Hour 1)
The Brewers triumphed over the Cubs this weekend, and now they move on to face the Dodgers. Being a large market team, the Dodgers budget dwarfs that of the Brewers, leaving us with a battle that our own Dan Shafer has coined “Glitz vs. Schlitz.” Todd also touches on the international news of the day as Hamas releases the last hostages they held in their war with Israel. Regardless of how this agreement was reached, we are happy that families have been reunited. At the bottom of the hour, our colleague and friend Jane Matenaer joins us for another Monday with Matenaer! She and Todd talk Brewers before taking on a much weightier topic: the ways the MAGA movement are trying to rewrite American history. From Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples’ Day to shifting education standards, there is a concerted effort to erase all negativity from our past and prevent citizens from questioning the government. Mike Mahnke: “A Lucky Fan in the Press Box” (Hour 1)
Today, our show is jam-packed with sports news, so Todd takes some time at the top to address politics. As we’ve covered in recent weeks, ICE and the National Guard are being deployed in Democratic cities across the nation. On Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker brought some levity to a dangerous situation. In yet another underreported national news story, Sec. Hegseth announced in a press conference that Qatar will have a military base on US soil in the near future. Todd expresses bewilderment at this potential breach of security. At the bottom of the hour, we’re honored to welcome the PA voice of the Badgers: Mike Mahnke! Between military service, broadcasting, and even comedy, he has a wealth of stories to share. He talks about how he found his unique personality behind the microphone as a fan of Badgers sports. The End Of Windows 10 Support Is Near (Hour 1)
BREAKING NEWS: According to WISN and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, a Milwaukee man is dead after exchanging gunfire with an off-duty police officer following a minor car collision. Details are still emerging about exactly what happened, and Civic Media News will stay on top of the situation. After we return to the normal show, Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project joins us for a surprise in-studio appearance as his oldest daughter tours UW-Madison! He and Todd reflect on Wisconsin sports before addressing one of many elephants in the room: Marjorie Taylor-Greene has been saying things that make sense. Does your computer run Windows 10? If so, you might soon find yourself in hot water. At the bottom of the hour, Julius Shieh of the Right To Repair Campaign at Wisconsin Public Interest Research Group (WISPIRG) joins us to explain why this is far bigger than most software discontinuations. Approximately 440 million computers will either face security issues or become e-waste when Microsoft’s support ends in less than a week. The worst part? The company plans to continue creating these safety updates, but will only release them as part of a paid subscription. WISPIRG is petitioning this decision. Saturday, October 18th is International Repair Day, so WISPIRG is hosting a Fix-a-thon at the Madison Central Library. Bring your old laptops to fix or recycle. This Weekend: The Eau Claire Hmong New Year (Hour 2)
With a 2-0 lead, the Brewers have an opportunity tonight to defeat the Cubs in the NLDS. We kick off our second hour with our own Brewers pregame show. This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: burial or cremation? It may be macabre, but we are approaching Halloween, after all. We take a few calls and texts with lighthearted takes. At the bottom of the hour, we’re excited to welcome Lar Kong Xiong, Board President of the Eau Claire Area Hmong Mutual Assistance Association. He walks us through his family background and how the Wisconsin Hmong community has grown since they were displaced here 49 years ago. This weekend, the association is hosting their Eau Claire Hmong New Year celebration at the Sonnentag event center. This is a huge event that drew approximately 4,000 attendees last year.
