S1 Ep 69Ep.69 Stress The Biggest Challenge For Mental Health

Why is stress the next biggest challenge in the mental health space- because we can take stress very casually and it can keep accumulating and turn out to be a silent killer. Stress modifies our brain. Chronic stress leads to anxiety and depression. It's not necessary that everyone gets stressed only by life-altering events- like this pandemic, or the loss of a dear one, or a grave fall in businesses. I know of people who get chronically stressed with the smallest of things- vegetables are over, the maid has not come, some grocery missing at home- little things for them are the big things which then get spilled to other people in their environment. How can we effectively manage stress in our everyday lives and what are those little things that can become a part of our daily routines to transform our lives.Listen Now A small note: We at Ep.Log Media along with Metaphysical Lab have successfully produced 50+ episodes covering stories of people battling mental illnesses, to practitioners and mental health activists, the podcast has become a rich source of information on mental health, and also a platform for sharing lived experiences.  We do not wish to dilute the experience and essence of the show with advertisements. S1 Ep 64Ep.64 Mental Health Insurances And Their Future ft. Kapil Mehta

This week on The SOS Show, Suchita is joined by Mr. Kapil Mehta, the founder of Secure Now, an insurance brokering firm. MHCA 2017 has put physical and mental health as equally important. IRDAI has directed mental health insurance companies to include mental illnesses in their repertoire. But we are still very far from there. Some of the important pointers we talk:Lack of implementation of MHCA 2017How do insurance companies define Mental IllnessesHow many insurance companies have included mental healthWhat is included in the insurance- as OPD plays an important part. What is the amount of insurancewhy are insurance companies hesitant in the following suitWhy aren't caregivers included in this?Challenges and loopholes and how can we overcome them. How can you get mental health insurance! The great takeaway is to make data on Mental illnesses transparent and easily available so their understanding of mental illnesses makes the insurance more applicable. S1 Ep 50Ep.50 Doctors & Suicides ft. Dr. Chetna Dengri and Shivangi Mishra

A profession that saves lives is the highest risk group when it comes to suicides. The data from the U.S states- 1 doctor dies per day by suicide.A particular suicide that came to the forefront a few months back- Dr. Anurag Kumar- who wrote this post on medium about being severely depressed and trying to take his life multiple times till he finally succeeded and, that too, while he was undergoing medication and everyone was aware of his condition and intention. So does that mean that we as people are helpless in taking care or saving a life and a life that decides to go will go? We talk to Dr. Chetna Dengri and Shivangi Mishra (medical students) about what they undergo in the process of becoming doctors that could possibly push young medical doctors/ students to take their own lives.  What does their day, their profession, their teachers, and their parents demand out of them- Is our competitive culture, dirty competitive spirit leading to this?  Is this culture leading these 19 years olds to breakdowns, which in turn is killing their spirit? Can we do something about it, are we doing enough or are we as helpless!! Does this definition vary from country to country?Dr. Satender Singh takes us through his journey of living and fighting for his rights and hence the rights of others- Fighting the stigma of his disability- discrimination, and harassment. Disability is in the environment he reiterates, in our awareness, in our understanding. We try and understand the kind of work that needs to be done from a rights-based perspective. 70% of disability is in villages- what are we doing about it? What is the government doing about it?Why are laws/ policies made but not implemented?Currently, what are the rights of a person with a disability that they must take note of!!  HELPLINES FOR SUICIDE PREVENTION:I CALL-9152987820M MIND POWER-1800-120-820050MINISTRY OF HEALTH-08046110007NATIONAL HELPLINE: 1075 You can follow us and leave us feedback on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter @eplogmedia, For partnerships/queries send you can send us an email at [email protected]. S1 Ep 48Ep.48 Childhood, Parenting and Mental Health ft. Varkha Chulani, Clinical Psychologist

How can a parent-child relationship define the mental health of a child? In our earlier episodes, some of our guests felt that their mental illness was due to "bad" parenting. Do parents especially in India make an effort to understand - really understand their child- or are they just a "project" for them as pointed out by our guest for today- Varkha Chulani. Find her at www.varkhachulani.com. The points of discussion are:1) Can "Bad" parenting lead to mental illness in a child?2) What could be a possible difference (in percentage)  between genetic and sociological reasons for a child's mental illness?3) Do Indian parents understand the EMOTIONAL WELL BEING of a child? 4) Are we taught to build a relationship with our children? What are the ways and is it something that needs to be constantly worked upon.5)  Some points on BAD parenting6) Expectations from their child- is it justified? Can that stress on a child lead to mental illness?    HELPLINES FOR SUICIDE PREVENTION:I CALL-9152987820M MIND POWER-1800-120-820050MINISTRY OF HEALTH-08046110007NATIONAL HELPLINE: 1075 You can follow us and leave us feedback on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter @eplogmedia, For partnerships/queries send you can send us an email at [email protected]. S1 Ep 47Ep.47 A Series Of Suicides - Cause and Effects ft. Dr Soumitra Pathare, Consultant Psychiatrist and Director of Centre for Mental Health Law and Policy at ILS

Two specific loss of lives in the past month has shaken us- one is Dr. Anurag Kumar the psychiatrist and other is Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput ( which is still under speculation/ investigation.) Both these suicides led to a huge social media uproar- one had a suicide note and depression attributed to it; the second one had no suicide note, but depression and other things are being attributed to it. The second suicide triggered other suicides. The suicide amidst the doctors has been the highest for a while- the figures (speculative/ internet) from the U.S are appalling- one suicide a day- 1 million suicide a year. We do not know the accurate figures from India. But the point that comes out of the discussion and social media uproar is - are we using the word "depression" the right way; and are there different kinds of depressions that can trigger a suicide besides "clinical depression". We also talk about IPC 306 - abetment to suicide. Can we as a society be more aware of each other and be more empathetic to prevent suicide?   HELPLINES FOR SUICIDE PREVENTION:I CALL-9152987820M MIND POWER-1800-120-820050MINISTRY OF HEALTH-08046110007NATIONAL HELPLINE: 1075   You can follow us and leave us feedback on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter @eplogmedia, For partnerships/queries send you can send us an email at [email protected].
