Series - The Future Of Energy Part Three - The future of residential energy Guest - Joe Edginton From - Energy Culture The Future Of Energy series has been designed to offer multiple perspectives from various guests within the energy sector. Comprising of three separate episodes and three separate guests, we cover the evolving energy market, from the grid and our energy providers, right through to the residential electrician, who's out there installing solar panels on homes. Throughout this series, we talk about fossil fuels, solar energy, wind and hydro energy, even nuclear. They are three different conversations at three different levels but with one common theme in understanding 'the future of energy. Here is part one - The Future Of Our Energy Sources - [LINK] Here is part two - Solar power, fuelling communities - [LINK] The purpose of this series was to gain some insight into the rapidly changing world of solar energy from multiple perspectives and viewpoints. In part one, we had a brilliant discussion with Andrew O'Farrell, who works in the energy sector as an energy trader. It was a powerful episode because effectively, the companies that Andrew works with are in control of sourcing the power that makes in possible for you to read this article. I loved his perspective because as someone that is surrounded in a market that is dominated by fossil fuel, there is some surprising insight to where that might end up in the future. In the second podcast, I speak with Alex from ShineHub about the fantastic initiatives that they work on that sees entire communities working together to harvest, use and store solar energy. This conversation was about communities becoming more self-sufficient and working together to reduce their costs and reduce their carbon footprint. I absolutely loved it. In this podcast, which is the third and final episode of 'The Future Of Energy' series, I am speaking with Joe Edginton from Energy Culture about the changes that he sees on a residential scale when it comes to solar power. We talk about solar panels, battery storage units, costs, rebates, licensing, qualifications and lots more. This conversation really brings the series full-circle, making it relatable to anyone that is in a position which might see them becoming an installer themselves, or ha Your Next Step:Join Tradie Academy, our free community packed with templates, checklists, and resources shared by podcast guests, coaches, and successful tradies.👉 Join free and grab your next growth tool here: https://tradie.wiki/podFollow The Site Shed:Facebook: The Site ShedInstagram: @thesiteshedLinkedIn: Matt JonesWebsite: thesiteshed.comYouTube: @TheSiteShedIf you enjoyed this podcast and the series, please take 5 minutes to leave us a review:⭐ https://lovethepodcast.com/TheSiteShedLove the audio version of this podcast? Series – The Future Of Energy Part Two – Solar power, fuelling communities Guest – Alex Georgiou From – Shine Hub The Future Of Energy series has been designed to offer multiple perspectives from various guests within the energy sector. Here is part one – The Future Of Our Energy Sources – [LINK] In episode one, I speak with a friend of mine, Andrew, about the future of energy from the perspective of the grid and where our energy comes from both now and in the future. With the introduction of more renewable and sustainable energy, the way we generate energy today will look very different in 50 years. In today’s episode, I’m speaking with Alex from Shine Hub about communities that are being built to run on solar energy. Crazy, right? I know, I was pretty shocked to hear that these sorts of places exist, but sure enough, both here in Australia and right around the world, communities are harvesting, storing and using solar energy as their primary power source. Imagine the global problems that could be resolved if power was available via solar? Rural communities in third-world countries could access clean water, via powered pumps. Education could be made available via computers that now are able to run off solar power. In general, the planet would be a much better place. As you’re about to learn, this is the future that is upon us. It’s here already. On our doorsteps, even. I hope you’re impressed by this podcast as I was in recording it. Ep 189TSS189 - The future of virtual reality in construction

The future of virtual reality in construction You’d have to have been living under a rock for the last ten years to not notice the rise of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). It seems to be everywhere we look. To the point where now, we can turn our mobile devices into a VR unit and go explore what feels like another dimension. Years ago, I was at a tradeshow in Munich, Germany, where I was drawn to an exhibition that was showcasing a VR as a tool for the trades. At the time I’d only really seen VR in the movies and I’d never heard of AR (I’ll explain the difference shortly). I don’t know if it was the technology that captivated me, or staring at the people in a zombie-like trance while they were using it. Either way, it looked cool. Ever since I saw that, I have pondered where the VR/AR world may end up. The guy I was speaking with at the exhibit was telling me about how they can create environments off a drawing so it can be experienced prior to it actually being developed. It sounded a little far-fetched to be honest, but it was there in front of my eyes. I was more curious as to who’d use it. And back then, who’d pay for it, as it cost a bomb! What’s the difference between Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR)? Virtual Reality (VR) is the use of computer technology to create a simulated environment. Unlike traditional user interfaces, VR places the user inside an experience. Instead of viewing a screen in front of them, users are immersed and able to interact with 3D worlds. If you’ve ever tried VR, you basically step into another world, the minute you place your mask on. Everything you see is a computer-rendered reality and yes, it’s kind of trippy. Augmented Reality is an enhanced version of reality created by the use of technology to overlay digital information on an image of something being viewed through a device (such as a smartphone camera). A classic example of AR that most of us would be familiar with is a fad that captured the world a few years ago, called Pokemon Go. It’s where you take an actual existing environment and overlay it with a digital render to make it look like it’s there. VR Applications VR is a very effective tool for casting vision. If they say a picture tells a thousand words, then I’d have to say that a VR experience tells a thousand pictures. Imagine being able to view a home before it’s built What if you could sit in a car that didn’t exist? What if you could go ‘in-store’ shopping from the comfort of your home? Some of these things might sound creepy, but most of them exist already and we’re only scratching the iceberg. AR Applications AR is extremely useful for things like: Placing virtual furnitu Your Next Step:Join Tradie Academy, our free community packed with templates, checklists, and resources shared by podcast guests, coaches, and successful tradies.👉 Join free and grab your next growth tool here: https://tradie.wiki/podFollow The Site Shed:Facebook: The Site ShedInstagram: @thesiteshedLinkedIn: Matt JonesWebsite: thesiteshed.comYouTube: @TheSiteShedIf you enjoyed this podcast and the series, please take 5 minutes to leave us a review:⭐ https://lovethepodcast.com/TheSiteShedLove the audio version of this podcast? Throughout this series, we talk about fossil fuels, solar energy, wind and hydro energy, even nuclear. They are three different conversations at three different levels but with one common theme in understanding ‘the future of energy. In this episode, I’m kicking off the series with a conversation with a friend of mine, Andrew who has spent the better part of his professional life as an energy trader. Energy traders are basically in charge of controlling the energy market that supplies our cities and communities, meaning that when it comes to energy sources, they have to really have their finger on the pulse. In an environment that is still very much driving the majority of our energy from fossil fuels like coal and oil, it was interesting to hear about some of the disruptive technologies that are starting to make a footprint. I hope you enjoy part one of this series. In following episodes you’re going to hear from a gentleman that works with solar installations on a community scale and a Sydney based electrician that installs solar units on homes. Ep 184Internet Law 101

Don’t fall victim to the laws of the world wide web! Internet Law 101 With Richard Chapo from www.SocalInternetLawyer.com As the internet continues to become a greater part of our lives, so does the legalities that surround the ever-expanding ‘world-wide-web’. It’s amazing (and kind of scary) to think how far the internet has come since it was launched in the eighties and made available to everybody in the nineties. It’s really only been around for 30 years and to think where it is currently and where it might be in the next 30 years is kind of terrifying. Most of us use the internet on a daily basis. In fact, most of us depend on it. I literally couldn’t imagine life without it. I know for certain both of my businesses would collapse without it. Imagine how many others would be in the same boat? Even as plumbers, electricians and builders, our leads and operations depend on Internet-based systems. Invoicing, management, communications, and a million other things. But what about the laws that relate to the internet? How many of us are on top of internet law. More to the point, how many of us are currently breaking those laws and don’t even realise it? In this podcast, I’m speaking with internet lawyer, Richard Chapo about the forever threatening legalities that surround the internet and the way we use it. From email marketing through to the dark web, this podcast covers a vast array of really interesting topics that I’m sure you’ll all get a lot out of. Enjoy the show and enjoy the internet…safely. Ep 183The 1-Page Marketing Plan with Allan Dib

‘The One Page Marketing Plan’ with Allan Dib How this podcast with Allan Dib happened. I love to read. Business books especially. I just love the wisdom I can extract from them. I love them so much, that I recently started a Youtube playlist on The Site Shed’s channel called ‘Book Reviews’ Here’s the link to the channel Here’s the link to the Book Review playlist Please go like and subscribe by the way. I’d appreciate that Anyway, every now and then I stumble across a brilliant book. One that just stands out. ‘The 1-Page Marketing Plan’ certainly did that. I absolutely loved it. As it happens, Allan’s PR associate saw that I had been doing book reviews on YouTube and reached out to me to see if I’d like to review the book. At this stage, she was unaware that I had already read it and it was on my list of books to review. I replied to the email, putting forward the opportunity for Allan to appear on the podcast to try to make the principles of the book more relatable to tradies and contractors…to which they both gladly accepted. And so here we are. About this podcast I asked Allan to apply the philosophies from his book directly to trade businesses in this podcast, which was awesome. The book itself is amazing, however to have the author himself relate his work to the businesses of a tradie/contractor was really powerful. I have no doubt that you’ll absolutely love this podcast. It’s the first one of its kind I’ve recorded and I’m absolutely thrilled with the outcome. Please leave us a review and some comments to let us know what you think. We’d love to hear it. Ep 1822019 Productivity Framework

Productivity issues exist everywhere you look. Work, home, school, sport, social occasions, to name a few. Over my professional career, I have certainly been through patches where productivity is far from optimal. If I’m brutally honest, even today as I type this, my days’ productivity has been seriously rattled. There is no perfect system for productivity. No golden egg, no magic wand. For each of us, it will look different and be made up of different elements. However there are some pretty hand ‘smarts’ that I’ve managed to pick up over the years of speaking with hundreds of amazing business owners and as a result, I have formed a system that works best for me. In this podcast, I explain what that looks like, so you can take from it what you like and adapt it to make it yours. It’s my experience that regardless of how busy you are, planning and strategy can help you become more efficient. This is my personal mission for 2019. I will become a productivity master and I hope the same for you.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Leverage through effective people power. When it comes to scaling a business, it’s impossible to debate the fact that it can’t be done alone. Like it or hate it, we need a team to help us. It’s the only way to grow. Unfortunately, however, finding the right team members is much harder than it sounds. Get your financial house in order If you love this podcast and live training, you'll certainly love these, also. How to hold World Class Meetings with Al Levi - [LINK] How to systemise your trade business - [LINK] You can watch and follow along with this episode on the video below ;-) About part one: Productivity. Be a master of it, not a slave to it. Very few of us can confidently say that we are as productive as we can be. Over recent months, I've been going through some incredible changes in relation to being more productive. Over the years, I've really struggled with it from time to time and I know from my time as a plumber, there were things that could have been done so much better in retrospect. In this podcast, Rob beautifully articulates the difference between being 'busy' and being 'productive'. I know for years, I always thought they were the same thing, however recently I've learned that being productive has nothing to do with being busy. In fact, very often, being productive will lead to the opposite. I have found that the more productive I am, the more time I have because I'm spending focused time on doing things that are important and I have my team do the things that were keeping me 'busy'. My advice to you, is watch or listen to this training and go and make some actionable tasks for yourself t Your Next Step:Join Tradie Academy, our free community packed with templates, checklists, and resources shared by podcast guests, coaches, and successful tradies.👉 Join free and grab your next growth tool here: https://tradie.wiki/podFollow The Site Shed:Facebook: The Site ShedInstagram: @thesiteshedLinkedIn: Matt JonesWebsite: thesiteshed.comYouTube: @TheSiteShedIf you enjoyed this podcast and the series, please take 5 minutes to leave us a review:⭐ https://lovethepodcast.com/TheSiteShedLove the audio version of this podcast? Ep 178Zero to $850,000 in 2 years

The relatable journey of Peter Norton and his Gold Coast Electrical Business. Guest: Peter Norton From: Enersol Electrical Social: @enersolelectrical If you like these success stories, you'll enjoy the following podcasts: From A to B with Corey Philip Proof that your trade business can run while you travel the world Creative marketing with David Gatto Stephen Scogins from A to B About this podcast with Peter Norton A little while ago, I had a listener email me asking if I could get some guests on the show that are a little easier to relate to than some of the tycoons I often speak with. Of course, he who asks receives, so I put the feelers out in our private Facebook community to see if anyone that's currently grinding it out in business would want to come on and tell their story. Subsequently, I received loads of replies. So many in fact that I had to politely decline the majority as I only have so much resource available to me from a production perspective. Anyway, so I was introduced to Peter from a member of the group and after a quick chat, I realised that he fit the profile of who I was looking for perfectly. Peter Norton runs Enersol Electrical, which is a small electrical company on the Gold Coast of Queensland. Like many of you guys, he is slogging it out, building a business that encounters many of the obstacles that yours may. In this conversation, Peter and I talk about some of the roadblocks that he's encountered along the way and some of the tactics that he's used to navigate them safely. This is a great conversation with a down to earth guy, who's out there just like you. I hope you enjoy it. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. How to build a business for exit Guest – Dominic Rubino From – Cabinet Maker Profit System Contact – [email protected] Web – www.cabinetmakerprofitsystem.com If this topic is ‘up your alley’, you might want to check out some of our other podcast that kind or relate to this one. Building a model that is scalable – Fares Elsabbah [LINK] Lack of focus on Gross Profit Margin – Danny Kerr [LINK] About this podcast How many times have you heard from a coach, or in a podcast, or read in a book, the old cliché saying, "you should always begin with the end in mind!" We all go into business for various reasons. Sometimes it's for the right reasons and sometimes, it's not. Either way, for the majority of us, we don't have a clear path to exit. In this podcast, we learn about the art of building a business with an exit strategy from a man that has done it, is doing it and now teaches tradies and contractors to do just that. "Why the heck what I want to build a business to exit it?", you might be asking. Having a defined goal on the strategy behind leaving a business is a very powerful tool in a business's arsenal. It's appealing to investors, it's appealing to partners and it keeps the organisation on a clear path. The reality is, however that the chance of someone wanting to acquire your business is very low. Why? Well, simply because most businesses are not set up to be purchased. They don't have the correct processes in place, they don't have the right team in place and they don't have a business system that can be taken over by another person, or organisation. In today's podcast, we learn how to set out from the beginning with the end in mind. It's a very powerful lesson and one I hope you implement. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Corey is a member of The Site Shed and is based in Florida, USA. Over the years of running Gulf Coast Aluminum, he developed a sales strategy to help he and his growing team, better convert leads into customers. He coined this ‘The Valve Stem Sales Strategy’, which you can see below. Corey is an entrepreneur that invests in the important things in his business. Procedures and processes. The Valve System Sales Strategy is a great example of how an every-day task has been refined to become a powerful selling tool. We all sell, but how many of us have taken the time to create a detailed system from our process? Likely answer, not many. Anyway, I know you’re going to get a lot out of this podcast and I hope that you can take some of the principles that you learn and apply them to your business. Ep 173Creating a Million Dollar Design Build Business - Fares Elsabbagh: Part 3

Building a Model That is Scalable In the final episode of this series, we discuss solid, actionable steps on how tradies can build a million dollar business model that is scalable. The most important thing to note here is finding a business model which can realistically be scaled. "Any successful business has three components- The trifecta" Leadership, team, and systems. These are the three main components of a successful business according to Fares. We both agreed that it all starts with leadership though (winks). Ep 172Creating a Million Dollar Design Build Business - Fares Elsabbagh: Part 2

Stop Working for Free. Time is Money In the second episode of this series Matt conducts with Farres Elsabbagh, they discuss the importance of time for all tradies and contractors out there. Every hour of unpaid work, no matter what part of the trades you're in, will result in wasted time and assets. "Processes and how you deliver on your job is what really makes a difference" In this podcast, we talk about how important it is to value your time and how to make sure that your customers are part of a process that ENSURES that they value your business too. Having the right frameworks and processes in place when it comes to time management ensures that your customers are not wasting your time and you're not wasting theirs. Too often we hear about tradies that carry out free, detailed quotes, or work for 'the love of it'. It's not the way to grow a sustainable business and as business owners, we all need to start respecting time in every sense. In the previous episode We discussed the importance of marketing and how if you want to create a business that has consistency, you need to invest in marketing. Here's the link. Ep 171Creating a Million Dollar Design Build Business - Fares Elsabbagh: Part 1

Building Won't Make You a Million Dollars, Marketing Will In the first episode of this series I'm conducting with my man Farres Elsabbagh, we discuss how most tradies have this tendency to underestimate the importance of investing in marketing. For us to generate this lucrative Million Dollar Design Build Business, a very important first step is to understand what marketing can truly do for your business. What most business owners need to understand is that there is an infinite pool of possible customers out there. "Marketing turns from expense to investment when done right" At the end of the day, it's all about reaching your customers and that's exactly what marketing does for you. Although there are other crucial aspects of your business, Marketing should never be left out of focus. Every tradie out there should remember this. In The Next Episode We discuss how tradies and contractors can start adding more value to their time. It's entitled "Stop working for free, time is money". That podcast is coming very soon. Prefab: The Future of Building In the 170th episode, I brought in the legendary Warren McGregor as we discuss why Prefab is the future of building for tradies and contractors. As a former plumber, I have seen a lot of upcoming technologies starting to unfold in the trades- and that was quite a long time ago. Bill Warren speaks of cases where a building is made in one country then transported to another. This is only a single example among many occurrences where Prefab has elevated the level of building. Ep 169TSS169_Strategic Planning Series Part 3: Execution Will Trump Any Plan

Execution will Trump Any Plan In the final episode of this series on Strategic Planning, Ed Plant joins me as we discuss why execution will trump any plan. In the world of business, owners always get encouraged to make the most rigorous planning and preparations. Although this is partially helpful, it also is important to not forget about the actual execution of what you’re planning for. Being able to execute your plan correctly plays the most crucial role in the growth of your business. It is when you think of execution that you are also able to make adjustments to your plans accordingly. “It’s good to put a job in that you go out and do with the guys once a month or quarter.” The Strategic Planning series has been a total treat to conduct with Ed. TSS168_Strategic Planning Series Part 2: Defining and Planning the Key Areas of Your Business

Defining and planning the key areas of your business This second episode ties with the previous one about Beginning with the End in Mind. After being able to have an end goal in mind, it’s now a good time for business owners to define which areas of their business do they need to build a system for. Edward emphasizes how much he favors simplicity in terms of building out systems for his business. This for me is a very important insight because most business owners have this tendency to over-complicate systems which can be disruptive to the development of everything. “Systems stand for ‘save yourself time energy and money’.” Coincidence or not, this acronym given by Ed is astoundingly fitting when you think of what the true value of systems really is. Systems are the foundation and building blocks of your business. They help structure the flow and growth of most areas in your business. Ep 167Strategic Planning Series Part 1: Beginning With The End In Mind

Beginning with the End in Mind “You plan to fail if you fail to plan”. This saying applies to just about any trade business out there. Most of your business’ systems need to be planned out ahead of time for you to prepare contingencies in case things don’t turn out as expected. This is where beginning with the end in mind becomes extremely handy and important. In the first episode of this series on Strategic Planning that I’m conducting with my great mate Edward Plant, we discuss why beginning with the end in mind is a crucial first step to strategic planning. Edward Plant was in the service for almost two decades so he knows much about the importance of preparation and using the end picture as a starting point for planning. “We don’t need a 28-page document that we never use. We need something we can pick up and run with on a regular basis.” Ed speaks of this one big page in the military that contained all the current missions and a chain of command outline in case an official passes away. According to him, this is similar to what businesses should have. Not multiple pages of documents, but a one-page blueprint that owners can pick up and run on a regular basis. Beginning with the end in mind helps you create a timeline of goals that are realistically attainable. Ep 166Google Marketing For Tradies & Contractors with Ilana Wechsler

Google Adwords can get very tricky for small to medium size businesses. In this podcast, I am joined by Ilana Wechsler as she discusses her vast experience with Adwords and how exactly can businesses take advantage of cost-per-click campaigns. To enlighten our listeners out there, cost-per-click marketing is a strategy within Google that allows businesses to bid on high-traffic keywords. Google makes its earning by charging any website who bids on that keyword everytime the paid ad gets a click. In this podcast, we use the keyword 'plumber sydney'. We discuss how the bid for this particular keyword exploded into $50 per click which just absolutely makes no sense for start-up businesses to invest on. "You need to nurture those existing customers because they're the ones who are most likely to come back and refer you to people." Despite being an expert in Google Adwords, Ilana emphasizes the true value of repeat customers. It is no secret that paid ads can increase the onpour of leads into your business. However, being able to take care of your existing pool of customers might just take things to the next level. As we wrapped off this insightful episode, Ilana mentions the importance of efficient location targeting when it comes to paid ads. According to her, it pays to create that extra layer of filter by specifically exculding locations you would not want to get reached by your ads. Are you excited to learn more about this? Ep 165Keeping Safety Simple Series Part 3: Moving Forward After An Incident

Moving Forward After An Incident After discussing how business owners can respond to incidents at work, we wrap off this awesome series by talking about moving on after an incident. It's almost a necessity for a business owner to examine the person who was hurt by the incident to ensure that they are completely back in shape. The last thing you would want is for another incident happening to the same person just because he came back to work not fully recovered yet. "If they're back to 100 percent health then back to work is the best place to be." In this final episode, we wrap up this awesome series by tackling the ABCs of moving forward after an incident. Believe it or not, how you handle issues that arise after the incident is just as important as your actual response to it. Ep 164Keeping Safety Simple Series Part 2: Responding to incidents correctly

Responding To Incidents Correctly Incidents are an inevitable part of every business. This is the exact reason why business owners should be aware of what to do when incidents occur within the workplace. In this episode, we go through a few real-life experiences of how people were able to move on from incidents at work. Shayne shares with us a previous worker who lost his arm due to a jet water accident. “The first thing is always to attend to the person.” There’s just so many kinds of incidents which can happen at work. Whatever the case may be, the first and foremost thing to do is give attention to the person. As the owner of your business, you should be aware of what to do when incidents happen Aside from that, it helps to know all these things to instruct the right people so they can manage incidents in the future.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Ep 162Mental Health For Tradies Podcast Series: Part 2

Types Of Mental Health Problems Mental health problems can be a silent killer because most victims feel very reluctant to seek help. Like we talked about in the previous podcast, mental health is something everybody has. Just like everyone's physical health, our mental health is also prone to various illnesses. Awareness of the different mental health problems will eventually equip tradies to help those who are still suffering from it. This short list is a good start in understanding what other people around you might be going through. 1. Depression Depression is one of the most common mental health problems. According to the Mental health Organization, approximately 300 million people throughout the world suffer from depression. The unfortunate truth is that barely half of the people inflicted with depression receives subsequent treatment or attention. In general, here are the different symptoms of depression: Difficulty sleeping Substance abuse Self-isolation Trouble concentrating Suicidal thoughts A major lifestyle change along with consistent therapy is considered a very effective way to fight depression. A support group may come in very hand for depressed people. For those of you with depressed family members, set aside time at least every week to make sure everything is going alright with the person. An open and listening ear can go a very long way. 2. Bipolar Disorder Associated with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder is a mental health problem that causes the person to drastically switch from being extremely happy, sad, or upset. The negative effects of a person suffering from bipolar disorder are as follows: Excessive spending Feeling overly excited and euphoric Invincible mentality Hallucinations Extreme depression Frequent arguing Broken relationships The same treatment that helps people with depression also goes a long way when it comes to bipolar disorder. 3. The True Value of Mental Health For Tradies Mental health is one of the things that you never take for granted as a tradie. Aside from the physical stress brought upon by continuous projects, it is important to keep an eye on how we take care of the mind. In this podcast, we collaborate on how tradies and contractors can strengthen their mental health while dealing with the daily challenges of their trade business. How Can Tradies Take Better Care Of Their Mental Health? To accompany this amazing podcast is a brief list of practical things you can do for your mental health. Check it out: 1. Get enough sleep It's no surprise that getting sufficient amount of sleep is one of the most effective ways of preserving your mental health. Tons of research concludes that lack of sleep has a direct correlation with depression (especially the not-so-young bunch!) 2. Find an outlet for stress Stress can eat up all the happy hormones out of you. This is why an outlet for stress is very crucial to your mental health. And by 'outlet for stress', we don't mean partying and drinking the night away! Boxing, travelling, hiking, skiing, and similar physical intensive activities are the perfect way to get your mind away from work-related tension. 3. Surround yourself with the right people The word 'right' is the key-term in here. This is because everyone has different kinds of personality. You may find yourself easily getting along with certain people at work. That's ok! It is very important to surround yourself with people that you truly understand and accept. On top of making friends at work, continuously nurture your relationship with family members. People with strong connections in the family often find themselves less stressed than those who try to push away their family from their life. On The Next Episode... In the other half of this insightful podcast series on Mental Health, we go deeper into the effects of bad mental health. Aside from that, we also go through some real life examples of how observing proper mental-health has helped tradies be at the top of their game. Ep 155The Reality Of Interest Rates

The Reality Of Interest Rates Sean Fowler and Matt Jones return for the second part of the podcast series on finance for tradies and contractors to discuss the value of finding the right interest rates and being aware of other factors that affect the finance solution you will be offered. Speed, requirements, and other factors should also be considered as much as the interest rate of a financing deal. According to Sean, it's hard to get a legitimate answer when you ask for the interest rate. With the different type of interest rates being offered, you're simply taking the word of the person you're talking. With the existence of different interest rating systems; customer rate, base rate, flat rate, will not result in the same numbers/amount. "Interest Rates Are Not The Only Factor You Should Look Into" In this podcast, Sean Fowler discusses the experiences he had with interest rates and how other important factors should be considered as well before signing up for financial deals. After going over the importance of asking the right questions, now is a good time to look at our available options. In reality, interest rates are one of biggest things to look at. However, Sean emphasizes in this podcast that it is not the only place a contractor or tradie should look at. In This Podcast Matt Jones and Sean Fowler discuss the reality of interest rates in getting the best finance solution for tradies and contractors. Interest rates come in different shapes and sizes. According to Sean, people nowadays are looking into the other factors that affect a financial deal aside from interest rates. Ep 147Proof that your trade business can run while you travel the world.

We all have the dream of having the business that runs regardless of whether, or not we’re in it. The reality however is often a long way from our dream. In fact, it’s so far away, it’s probably more accurate to call it a wish. As tradespeople, it can seem even more our of reach that other businesses. We normally work in a local area and to a degree, we’re kind of tied to that location. So how can we create a business that runs without us when it’s so dependant on us being there? There are a lot of roadblocks when it comes to stepping away from our business. Things like; Unreliable and untrustworthy staff; financial stress customers and clients; etc. However, if we didn’t have those concerns, could it be possible that we could remove ourselves for a week or two? What about a month or two? What about a year or two? In this podcast, I’m speaking with a humble kitchen builder on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, that has managed to build a business that enables him to live the life of his dreams. I just want to reiterate that this gentleman is a KITCHEN BUILDER, so I can permanently remove the, “yeah but my business is so different” argument. My guest on the show today is Darren McKavanagh, who is a very active member of our amazing private facebook community (if you’re not in that group, you should be). Here’s the Link. Darren runs ‘The Kitchen Maker’ and is a partner in Total Polyurethane. Both are local Northern Beaches businesses, both have full-time staff and BOTH of them currently run without him. In this podcast, I talk to Darren about his beginnings and how he managed to build his business in a way that has enabled him the freedom that he has today. We discuss, organisation structure, team management, KPI’s and incentives, mentors, coaching, systems, processes and a lot more. What makes this podcast really cool, is that while I was in Sydney recoding, Darren was on his yacht in Turkey, to where he’d just returned from 10 weeks skiing in the French Alps. TSS144_Is SEO Complete BS?

SEO. How to decipher the good, from the bad The world of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) seems to have become a red-hot place for scammers to pull the wool over the eyes of those that don't know any better. This podcast came from a post on The Site Shed's private Facebook community in relation to how legitimate SEO actually is. Read the post here As someone that runs a digital agency (Tradie Web Guys), we deal with SEO on a regular basis. Not in a negative light I might add. Our experience with SEO is fantastic, but sadly the companies we speak with on a daily basis are not always as 'enthusiastic'. It's funny that even though I run a digital agency, if I go a day without getting an email from some company in India trying to sell me SEO or a website, it's a bloody good day. I know you're all getting the same emails. The group told me. Anyway, the point is, what's legitimate and what's BS? What's expensive and what's not? What are good results and what are bad? And so on and so forth. In this podcast, I talk about where SEO was and where it is now. I talk about the problems that exist and the fundamental elements of SEO. I also discuss 'content creation' and how to go about making a start. If you like the topic of SEO and Content, you'll probably love these too. Go check them out. TSS143_Dominating Customer Service

Is your customer service up to scratch? If you don’t have customers, you're not in business. Like what we're talking about in this episode? Here are some others that might interest you. Ever wondered why you annoy people so much? Selling to the right customers As tradespeople, we deal with customers on a daily basis. If you work in the residential space, you may deal with multiple customers in a single day, dozens in a week and hundreds in a year. I remember as an apprentice plumber, my boss always used to tell me, "Jonesy, you're not in the plumbing business, you're in the people business". Of course, as a seventeen year old, that pretty much meant nothing to me, however on reflection, it was pretty sound advice. Ensuring that your customers are having a great journey is the single most important thing you can do in order to earn their trust and keep them returning. Sadly, when we go to college, we're not taught how to deal with customers. We're not taught how to be well presented, we're not taught how to speak correctly and as a result, we often find ourselves having to fend for ourselves. Your service, or your customer service? In most cases, customer service is more important than the service you provide itself. Here are two scenarios to prove my point. You visit a restaurant and the food is incredible. The best you've ever had. The service however was atrocious. They screwed up your booking, the waiter was rude, they overcharged you and they wouldn't call you a cab. You visit another restaurant. The food was good, but not amazing. The waiter was super helpful, the atmosphere was fantastic, none of your orders were screwed up and they even offered a complimentary round of drinks. The point is, for the better part, the way you treat someone will trump the service you deliver. Within reason of course. I'm not suggesting that you can be a total hack and be able to get away with it because you have a silver tongue. If you want your customers to come back to you and talk about you with their friends, you need to be on your game when it comes to customer service. Are you active in training your team? Are you active in training yourself? Are you active in getting your customers feedback? Do you have policies in place that enable you to review and improve? Customer service is the backbone of any great business and in today's podcast, we have a lady on the show that has made it her life. Randi Busse is an expert in customer service.
