Today is part two of my conversation with Dr Pamela Douglas the founder of the non-profit Possums for Mothers and Babies and authour of the internationally renowned book.,The Little Discontented Baby Book in which she beautifully illustrates through evidenced based research how and why it is normal for babies to cry/fuss in the first 16 weeks of life.We took a deep dive into the research around infant sleep and debunked some myths around what is 'normal' when it comes to babies and sleep routines. Pam and I also discussed how babies can genuinely get bored like you and me - and the importance of sensory play. Finally we wrapped with some big picture questions around why mothers continue to receive conflicting advice around infant development, feeding and sleep, and what Pam envisions for a more positive future. S2 Ep 30Ep 30. Hannah Clark - Baby-Led Sleep Approach: Shaking Up the Sleep Training Culture

Hannah is a mum of two and certified Sleep Specialist living in lutruwita/Tasmania. She started Kin Postpartum because after a challenging first run in motherhood. Her first-born spent the first twelve months of his life pretty much waking hourly. Yes, hourly. Nearly. Every. Single. Night.Looking down the barrel of returning to work and feeling like she was at breaking point, she booked a consult with a sleep consultant who she knew was an advocate for sleep training but who had beautiful words like ‘gentle’, ‘soothing’, and ‘respectful of co-sleeping’ on her website and socials. Turns out spaced soothing is controlled crying, and it was not gentle or responsive. It was just distressing. She knew that there was a reason why he wasn’t sleeping. Leaving him to sit with his distress and limiting how & when she could respond went against every instinct she had as a mother, and it went against everything she knew wanted to be as a mother - an intentional, responsive parent who treated her beautiful baby as the wonderfully unique little human that he is.So, she threw ‘conventional wisdom’ out the window and went to work on the research. She trained as a Baby Led Sleep & Wellbeing Specialist with Isla Grace, and has made it her mission to empower parents to trust their instincts and parent like the (responsive) boss that they are.Learn more about Dr Renee White and Fill Your Cup Postpartum Doulas:Want to be nurtured and nourished after the birth of your baby, have a peek at our doula offerings. If you want to gobble up of famous Chocolate + Goji lactation cookies, look no further. S1 Ep 20Ep. 20 - Cherie Chugg - Tasmania's Leading Calm Birth Educator Shares Her Top Tips for Birth Preparation

Greetings from Tasmania! Today I chat with Tasmania's one and only CalmBirth educator, Cherie Chugg. Cherie began as a doula but quickly identified that supporting women as a doula was not enough. She wanted to reach a wider group of people and wanted to teach more couples about how to be prepared for childbirth. Cherie knew from her own personal experience that having an understanding of what was going to be happening in her own body helped eliminate any fears around childbirth. She was fortunate enough to have an amazing midwife that spent time with her every month explaining and teaching the things Cherie needed to know to prepare for birth. Cherie also had people beside her that understood what was going on and they could support, encourage and believe in her through the process. Calmbirth teaches this, it gives the women & her partner the knowledge they need to feel calm during the preparation time and the tools for when the time comes.Find out more about Fill Your Cup: World's First Biochemist Led Doula Villagewww.ifillyourcup.comInstagram @FillYourCup_Learn more about Dr Renee White and Fill Your Cup Postpartum Doulas:Want to be nurtured and nourished after the birth of your baby, have a peek at our doula offerings. If you want to gobble up our famous Chocolate + Goji lactation cookies, look no further.
