Today, they'll try again, with money flow sell signals in place, and money flow generally negative. Markets may be locked-in to another period of consolidation. Typically, when sell signals combine with negative money flows, the stage is set for corrective action--not necessarily big--and a set up for another rally. Now through the first third of the signal, there's more work to be done. This doesn't mean a 5- to 10% correction immediately; with liquidity still entering the markets, we may see a gyration as markets work-off of the over-bought positions. The Fed's walking a tightrope of zero interest rates and continuing quantitative easing, and something's got to give. Unfortunately, the Fed has painted itself into a corner, and will be forced to begin tapering their debt purchasing. That the Fed has distorted the inflation market with their purchases of TIPS, the overnight borrowing rate, and even the mortgage market, is obvious. What's driving this behavior is the proliferation of cheap money. When will it all end? A weekly Sell-signal has been triggered in the S&P, money flows have been positive, suggesting any correction might be somewhat limited, but a 5% - 10% correction is well within the realm of possibility this Summer. NASDAQ is closing in on its own sell signal. Industrialized International companies have been performing well, with an extended buy-signal. Emerging Markets, however, have not been performing well. Small Caps starting to turn, but we're late into the re-opening expansion. Bonds are the tell-tale, getting close to a buy-signal. Since the US Government took the Dollar off of the gold standard, we have relied upon the "full faith and credit" of the United States to back the value of a buck. That's a fiat currency. (5/26/21) Our mid-week market rundown: S&P's continued buy signal provides positive opening for the day; likely to re-test all-time highs. 5% to 10% correction likely this summer. QQQ's have been outperforming the S&P up to this point with a little more upside still to run, but--the NASDAQ is running out of time. When it turns, will be time to take profits out. Small-caps have not gone anywhere, creating an over-all drag; Emerging Markets showing little additional activity. Dependency on exports will be impacted by peaking stimulus and tapering input, with deflationary pressures.
