When the Fed lowered rates to entice more money into the markets (ostensibly to foster greater confidence in the economy), the unintended consequence was a loss of earnings potential for investors dependent upon rates that would generate income. In answer to a query from a listener, Lance addresses the pro's and con's of private equity investing, and the folly of ignoring risks while chasing returns; just because someone's an accredited investor does not necessarily mean they make the most prudent decisions. Rules changes that began under the Obama administration have made it easier for investors to entertain private equity opportunities, but few really understand all the risk: 80% of companies fail within the first year--taking with them their private equity investors. The biggest problem with stimulus programs is their temporary status, which does little to inspire confidence--in workers or employers. Could continuing "stimmie checks" be a new form of welfare, a la Universal Basic Income? The problem with higher minimum wage is it either makes low-income workers unemployable, or forces businesses to automate basic functions.
