Editor's Note #32
Show Notes: Run Time: 1:11:01 At the start of the show, we talk a bit of shop about possibilities for new formats of episodes. At the time of recording, the votes weren't in yet for next month's episodes, but there are now! So: Upcoming schedule: Tuesday, August 6th: No Episode (Because Gen Con!) Tuesday, August 13th: Gen Con Live 2019! Tuesday, August 20th: Editor's Note #33 Tuesday, August 27th: Episode #118 - All About SCRPG And here's our recording schedule! Around the 7 minute mark, we start in on your questions on so many topics, such as: Multiple OblivAeon-related questions! Void Guard Magic Sentinels of the Multiverse And that's not all! Thanks to all of you listeners, to our Patreon supporters, and to our families, who never believed we could make any of this a thing but we did it anyway. Hah!
Episode #116 - Creative Process: Shear Force
We make stuff up - as we often do - but not really for Sentinel Comics! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:23:20 We build out the world (and even a bit of the meta-verse) for the Shear Force property, as introduced in episode 102. We get into the overview just before the 4 minute mark, and there we get down to brass tacks about figuring about just what IS Shear Force. There's an animated show, and there are comics, but most importantly, there are toys. This all definitely hinges around toys. We get REALLY into it. In retrospect, this feels a lot like the conversations we had when we were first creating Sentinels of the Multiverse, but also very different. After a lot of creative nonsense, we answer a few questions, starting a bit after the 1 hour minute mark. Thank you all for listening! We hope you enjoy listening to this at least half as much as we enjoyed doing the creative work. This Friday, we'll be doing a live recording of this month's Editor's Note, so if you're on the Letters Page Patreon, we hope you can watch that, and possibly even join in if you're a Contributor. See you then!
Episode #115 - Wraith's Rogues Gallery
Let's get villainous! Show Notes: Run Time: 59:09 After some mild goofs, we get into your questions, and you ask all the right things! Listen to learn more about so many villains we've never spoken about before, plus a decent handful that you're already familiar with!
Episode #114 - Create-a-Thing Live!
Good morning, everyone! Let's create Sentinel Comics content! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:37:31 This live episode was fun! It moved in a way that we didn't expect - we got into Sentinels of the Multiverse card game content! How? What? Impossible! Right? You'll just have to listen to find out! I don't want to say much more than that; I would hate to spoil the surprises. Thanks to everyone who joined us live, and all of our supporters and listeners, like you!
Editor's Note #31
We take your questions. We give you answers. You know the deal. Or do you? Show Notes: Run Time: 1:11:01 At the start of the show, we talk a bit of shop about possibilities for new formats of episodes. At the time of recording, the votes weren't in yet for next month's episodes, but there are now! So: Upcoming schedule: Tuesday, July 2nd: Episode #115 - Wraith's Rogue Gallery Tuesday, July 9th: Episode #116 - Creative Process: Shear Force Tuesday, July 16th: Editor's Note #32 Tuesday, July 23th: Episode #117 - First Ever Writer's Room! Tuesday, July 30th: A week off due to Gen Con! Then, at around the 12 minute mark, we get to your questions! We cover such exciting topics as: OblivAeon Time Traveling Characters Myriad Members of the Prime Wardens Science Baron Blade's Theoretical Dilemma And much much more! Thanks as always to Trevor, our Patreon supporters, Sentinels fans everywhere, and listeners like YOU!
Episode #113 - The New Slaughterhouse Six
Remember, even this new team can't spell "Slaughterhouse" without the words "laughter". And also the word "louse", incidentally. Show Notes: Run Time: 1:06:46 We start off with some birthday talk, then some eyeball talk, like you do. Then, we actually do an overview just after the 5 minute mark! Don't worry, it's a VERY short overview. Then, we get right on to your questions at around 8 minutes in. Your questions cover the line-up of the team, including original members like Glamour, Re-Volt, Desert Eagle, and Ray Manta, and new teammates such as Hippo and Kismet! As always, thanks to all of our listeners, especially those of you on the Letters Page Patreon! Join us this Thursday at 10 AM, Central, for a live recording of this month's Editor's Note!
Episode #112 - Void Guard Follow-Up
Let's talk more about these powerful heroes! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:10:07 This show is a follow-up to our longest episode ever! So, consider that required listening for what we're talking about here. Adam's eye is ruined and he'll never see again, or something like that. I might be exaggerating here. About 6 minutes into the episode, we go to questions, which are organized by character (after the first couple more general questions). We cover Dr. Medico, Mainstay, The Idealist, and Writhe, in that order. Thanks to our (unwitting) sponsor, TheWyrmSuperior! Of course, so many thanks to Trevor for the great editing and producing and making this podcast possible, and also infinite thanks to all of you delightful listeners! We very much appreciate your support. If you're interested in supporting The Letters Page, check out our Patreon!
Episode #111 - Magic in the Multiverse
Let's get MAGICAL! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:37:44 Let's answer a lot of questions about the how, what, and why of magic! And more! As of this posting, the next episode (all about Void Guard) has already been recorded due to this weeks convention, but feel free to send in questions for the other episodes for the month of June! Also, if you're at UK Games Expo this week, come by the Greater Than Games booth and say hi - Christopher will be there talking about all manner of games, though Adam is holding down the GTG fort in St. Louis and celebrating the tail end of his birth-month. As always, you can support The Letters Page via our Patreon. Thanks for listening!
Editor's Note #30
An Editor's Note all about us being bad at Science! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:24:11 Here's the upcoming schedule! Tuesday, June 4th: Episode #112 - Void Guard Follow-Up Tuesday, June 11th: Episode #113 - The New Slaughterhouse Six Tuesday, June 18th: Editor's Note #31 Tuesday, June 25th: Episode #114 - Create a Thing: LIVE! After only about 5 minutes of light goofs and scheduling, we get into your questions, which are mostly the very "well actuallies" we asked for. But we do have a secret surprise guest appearance in the second half of this Editor's Note! You'll just have to listen to find out more!
Episode #110 - The Death (and Return) of Anthony Drake
This episode is not just about death, it's also about failure! Creative failure! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:15:41 After only a minute or so of goofing around, we actually do a very brief overview section, just to get you all caught up on the when and a bit of the why of this story. But then! You have asked all the right questions, so we let the questions section handle the bulk of the actual storytelling. That starts at around the 4 minute mark. Just so you know, the storytelling ends up being highly non-chronological, but we actually really like it that way. Ends up putting stuff in order of weight and importance, rather than publication order. Thank you all to our listeners and supporters, especially those of you who support us on The Letters Page Patreon! Join us tomorrow, Wednesday, May 12, at 11:00 AM Central time for a livestream of this month's Editor's Note!
Episode #109 - Development Hell
Stories that NEVER HAPPENED?!!?!?!?!??! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:12:53 We get to your questions right away, before we even hit the 2 minute mark. And we tell SO MANY stories that never were. Thank you to all of our listeners, especially our Patreon supporters! Get your questions for the Death of Anthony Drake (and anything else Prime Wardens related) in now!
Episode#108 - Lightspeed
Let's pick up the pace! Show notes: Run Time: 1:02:17 We get right into the story with this one, and actually have an Overview segment! It's been a while since we've had one of those. After telling the story of the Lightspeed limited series, we get to your questions at around the 30 minute mark. Thank you to all you wonderful folks who support the Letters Page Patreon! We couldn't do this without you. Catch ya next time!
Editor's Note #29
We're gonna answer so many questions! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:21:16 We do a lot of goofing around before we get to the schedule, but here's the schedule! Tuesday, May 7th: Episode #109 - Development Hell: cancelled stories Tuesday, May 14th: Episode #110 - The Death (And Return) of Anthony Drake Tuesday, May 21st: Editor's Note #30 Tuesday, May 28th: Episode #111 - Magic in the Multiverse And here's what our calendar looks like: You may note that the recording for Editor's Note #30 is happening on Wednesday the 15th instead of the following Friday. Adam is out of town the rest of that week, so we have to do the recording earlier than usual. Our Patreon supporters can watch/join in live! Finally, we get to your questions starting around 11 minutes in. We talk about such exciting things as: The OblivAeon Event (it's back!) Myriad Bugs vs. Insects vs. Other? Shear Force Pool Shark Guise Unity SCRPG Starter Kit Extremeverse Presidents Shirts Upcoming topics Thanks to all of our listeners and Patreon supporters for making what we do possible! Until next time, heroes!
Episode #107 - Temporal Targets: La Comodora and Chrono-Ranger
What were these two up to as they transcended time and space?! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:00:32 We're a mess in this one, but it's probably still worth it! We goof around (and also explain why things are extra weird in this episode) for a few minutes before finally getting to explaining the purpose/angle of this episode, and then getting into your questions a bit after the 7 minute mark. The questions are full of interesting ideas and fascinating queries... to which we have some unsatisfactory answers... but also several cool stories you've never heard before! Overall, we end up giving away and revealing more in this episode than we'd even intended, so, well worth it. The future is yours! All of the Letters Page Patreon can catch us this Friday at 11 AM, Central as we record Editor's Note #29 live! Patreon supporters at the "Contributor" level can join in on the Discord, so we hope to have as many of you as possible there to chat with us about all manner of things! Also, we'll have the voting for next month's episodes posted to the Patreon in the next couple hours, so look forward to that! Finally, thanks to all you delightful listeners for helping us make this possible. See you next time!
Episode #106 - Fall of the Prime Wardens
An episode in which we get into some real talk about one of our most powerful teams of heroes. Show Notes: Run Time: 1:05:34 With a minimum of banter - mostly due to the somber nature of today's undertaking - we get into the questions at the 2 minute mark. Speedy! Then, in response to the very first question, we tell the entire story of the Fall of the Prime Wardens, from before the prelude through the end of the arc, and in fact the end of the Prime Wardens book. So, essentially, we do an entire overview starting a bit after the 4 minute point, just as a drawn out answer to a question. After all of that, we get back to actually answering questions around 51 minutes in. Though we're certain there will be some follow-up questions for next month's Editor's Note. The final question of the day raises an excellent topic for a future episode that would hopefully put things back on their right path again. Can you forgive these heroes their flaws and inherent humanity? Only time will tell. Thanks for listening! Catch you next time!
Episode #105 - Science of the Multiverse
Let's "learn" about SCIENCE! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:29:37 Disclaimer! We are not scientists! Like, not really! That will become increasingly clear over the course of the episode! Even still, have fun! After a fairly standard amount of goofing around, we finally get into your questions, starting just before the 4 minute mark. Thanks to all of our listeners, especially our Patreon supporters! Catch you next week!
Episode #104 - Day in the Life: Unity
Let's talk about young Devra Caspit! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:10:23 In the first couple minutes, Adam and Christopher make a wager against Christopher's wishes, but I guess that kind of thing is binding? Then, we get into talking about Unity, what happened in her Day in the Life comic, and more! Around 12 minutes in, we get to your questions, which take up the rest of the episode. And what good questions they are! Thanks so much to all of you delightful listeners, and also to the very few of you who have chosen the path of undelightfulness - we support your decisions as well. Big thanks especially to our Patreon supporters. You make this all possible! We've already recorded next week's episode, so tune in next week to hear all about the Science of the Multiverse!
Editor's Note #28
This Editor's Note has been released later in the day today, as we recorded it live this morning! Sorry for the delay, but we're all caught up now and back to our mostly regular schedule. Show Notes: Run Time: 1:11:19 Here's the upcoming schedule! Tuesday, April 2nd: Episode #105 - Science in the Multiverse Tuesday, April 9th: Episode #106 - Story Arc: Fall of the Prime Wardens Tuesday, April 16th: Episode #107 - Temporal Targets: Chrono-Ranger and La Capitan stories Tuesday, April 23rd: Editor's Note #29 Tuesday, April 30th: Episode #108 - Story Arc: Lightspeed And here's a photograph of one of our whiteboards! (It's the one with the recording/release schedule.) Today, we talk about a lot of stuff! It can mostly be broken down into the categories of SCRPG related things, Fanatic and Ra questions, and Other Questions. Enjoy! Get your questions for Day in the Life: Unity, and Science in the Multiverse ASAP!
Episode #103 - Myriad
Temporary Show Notes: Run Time: 57:57 This is the Myriad episode. A myriad of things are discussed (including a few spoilers if you haven't played the Urban Infestation one-shot)! -Trevor
Episode #102 - Create a Thing LIVE
We make another thing LIVE! What kind of thing? Who knows?! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:23:15 OK, look, we've gotta stall for a while, so it's a few minutes into the episode before we actually get down to brass tacks, but then we start making stuff! We recorded this live in front of the Letters Page Patreon supporters, with many of the Contributors in the chat - you'll hear some of their names, as they were an important part of the creative process! I don't want to spoil anything, so you'll just have to listen to the episode... [spoilers incoming - don't look below this if you want to avoid spoilers!] ...but I will give you this quick sketch that Adam did right after the episode: Shear Force vs the agents of K.U.D.Z.U.! We'll catch you next week for Myriad!
Episode #101 - Time-Slinger
We're talking about a cowboy! Again! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:04:34 No overview, because we did that in an episode two years ago! For reference, check out Episode #25 all about Chrono-Ranger here. Then, we get to your questions and immediately go deep on literature, consciousness, reality... look, this one might get heavy. Besides, we have to talk about time stuff again, so, yeah. The questions cover a lot of Time-Slinger stories, telling you what he's up to now, and also drops a couple of major story elements, one of which no one knows but CON. A quick note about CON: both of us over the course of the episode use all kinds of pronouns for CON - he/she/it/they are all employed. That's partially because we're used to being cagey about giving answers on things, but we've already revealed the truth of CON in the past, so we should have been using "she" the whole time. Sorry for any confusion. This Friday is a "Create a Thing LIVE", so if you're on the Letters Page Patreon, you can join us Friday at 11 AM, Central time! Also, thank you to everyone for supporting us on the Sentinel Comics RPG Kickstarter. It did everything we wanted and more. We're blown away. Thank you.
Editor's Note #27
Let's do an Editor's Note mostly about Sentinel Comics: the RPG related stuff! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:17:35 Hey, everyone! This was a fun one. Special thanks to all of the delightful Letters Page Patreon Contributors who were on Discord. Welcome back to Trevor! He's back to being our full time editor - we loved having Zach for those weeks, but it's also great to have Trevor back. Here's the upcoming schedule! Tuesday, March 5th: Episode #102 - Create a Thing Live Tuesday, March 12th: Episode #103 - Myriad Tuesday, March 19th: Editor's Note #28 Tuesday, March 26th: Episode #104 - Day in the Life: Unity In this episode, we talk about a bunch of stuff, including but not limited to: The SCRPG currently ON KICKSTARTER!!! OblivAeon (of course) Wager Master Voss Miststorm Timeline vs RPG Timeline GM advice Sentinel Comics lore Hero Archetypes Sentinel Comics canon Guise Names Livestream Secrets TREVOR'S BIRTHDAY (and Anthony's birthday, too!) New RPG video series Letters Page RPG stories RPG mechanics Guise AGAIN Fanatic and Ra xxtz'Hulissh and more! See you all next time for slingin'!
Episode #100 - Starter Kit Stories
Let's hear YOUR stories! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:45:09 We're excited to get into our first official Sentinel Comics RPG timeline story! And it's one that many of YOU have played! After talking a bit about life and the SCRPG Kickstarter (currently happening!), we get into an actual overview a bit after the 4 minute mark! Important Note: this episode is FULL of spoilers for the SCRPG Starter Kit. If you don't want spoilers, walk away now. Save yourself! We go through each issue of the starter kit adventure, explaining it from our point of view that way we have a frame of reference when we get to your questions. Which we do at around 44 minutes into the episode! Now we're at the most delightful part of the episode to us. Getting to hear what happened in your games is a real treat! Also! This episode is the last one edited by Zach, our delightful and capable interim editor! If, after this episode, you miss Zach's calming presence like we do, fear not! You can find Zach in several places: He's on Twitter! He's got a Twitch channel! He's also got a podcast! Thanks so much, Zach - we couldn't have done it without your help! Some final things to share here: The SCRPG is up on Kickstarter right now! Check out the Letters Page Patreon to support the show! There will be a livestream on Patreon this Friday for this month's Editor's Note. Join us then/there! And keep being such great heroes, everyone!
Episode #99 - Helfyre
Time to talk about a heavy metal band! Also, they're bad guys! Show Notes: Run Time: 57:47 After only a few minutes of jokes, mouth music, and brief overviews, we get into the questions just before the 5 minute mark. Then we talk about this band! Here are the members of Helfyre, from left to right in the sketch above: Vocals: Screech Lead Guitar: Blister Bass Guitar: Deep Root Drums: Snare Pipe organ/Electronic Keyboard: Drudge Lots of great questions about these ridiculous villains. They're gonna rock you! But, like, not to sleep. To DEATH! But really, they're not killing their fans. Not actually. No profit in that. Don't forget! The Sentinel Comics RPG Kickstarter is still going on - go check it out! And, as always, the Letters Page Patreon is a great place to get even more into the Sentinel Comics stuff we're doing!
Episode #98 - Post-OblivAeon Environments
Let's talk about the final five environments! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:13:08 OK, so right off the bat, we get it terribly wrong. We claim that the SCRPG Kickstarter is live. When this episode goes live, that's not the case. The Kickstarter goes live an hour after this episode launches. We just did a bad job at thinking about time when we recorded this episode. Go us. That said, if you're listening to this episode right when it goes live, the SCRPG Kickstarter will go live around the 1 hour mark of this episode! Moving right along, just before the 5 minute mark, we get into your questions, starting with questions about Champion Studios and San Alonso. At around the 23 minute mark, we start in on questions about Fort Adamant and everything going on there. A bit after 32 minutes in, we visit scenic Mordengrad! Such a lovely place. We dance with the goat! Then, just after the 41 minute mark, we take a trip to the Nexus of the Void. Totally normal place. NBD. And then, finally, shortly after the 57 mark, we get to Plavu'Col, the Maerynian Refuge. Whew! The Kickstarter campaign for Sentinel Comics: the Roleplaying Game is live by now! Go check it out! See you next time.
Editor's Note #26
Who won the Listeners' Choice Awards? Everyone! Show Notes Run Time: 1:16:57 We announce the winners of Funniest Episode, Worst Episode, Best Audio Production Episode, and Best Storytelling Episode, as well as Funniest Question, Saddest Question, Best Fan Theory Question, and Most Revealing Question! Who won? You'll just have to listen to find out! After than, we talk about the upcoming schedule at just before the 35 minute mark. Here what we'll be talking about next month! Tuesday, February 5th: Episode #99 - Team Episode: Helfyre Tuesday, February 12th: Episode #100 - Starter Kit Stories: What happened in YOUR games? Tuesday, February 19th: Editor's Note #27 Tuesday, February 26th: Episode #101 - Time-Slinger Here's a photo of our recording calendar: Finally, around 37 minutes in, we finally get to your questions, starting off with a most grievous mistake on our part, unsurprisingly! But then moving on to many interesting topics. See you all next time!
Episode #97 - Story Arc: Baptism by Fire/War of Heliopolis/Horus of Two Horizons
Let's talk about Ra... and friends! Show Notes: Run Time: 45:11 After breaking down the plot to some movie or other, we actually do an Overview section! Bringing it back! Telling you what happens in Baptism by Fire, since you've already heard what happens in the War of Heliopolis limited series, as well as the Horus of Two Horizons one-shot. Then, after a lot of issue-by-issue storytelling, we get to your questions just before the 25 minute mark. Thanks to everyone, including our Patreon supporters, our producer Trevor, our interim editor Zach, and most especially listeners like you! We hope to see you all on the Letters Page Patreon this coming Friday - January 18th - for the live recording of this month's Editor's Note, including announcing the Listeners' Choice Awards! Everybody, everybody cut footloose!
Episode #96 - A Motley Crew: La Capitán's Time-Displaced Teammates
Arrr! It be pirate time, mateys! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:00:05 We get to questions right away and go through all of these scurvacious sailors of s...time? The first question of the day ends up going in depth on every member of the crew, so that takes up the majority of the episode, but also gives you pretty much everything you want! Enjoy! Many thanks to Zach Denoncour, our interim podcast editor! He's stepping in for Trevor for the next several weeks, and we're thrilled to have him aboard! Look forward to next time, when things really heat up!
Welcome to 2019!
We did tell you that there was no episode on January 1st. But, to be fair, you know that what we do on this podcast is tell lies. That said, this is not so much an episode. Just a quick hello and thank you. Looking forward to 2019. Thanks to all of you for being a part of it.
Episode #95 - Happy Holidays!
Happy Holidays from Sentinel Comics to all! Show Notes: Run Time: 41:13 We have a bunch of great questions today, so after only a few minutes of holiday lies, we get into those questions! And within those questions, we tell a few holiday tales. Enjoy! (Also, many thanks to Matthew Bender for his delightful dramatic reading! You'll know it when you hear it.) At the end of the episode, we finally reveal the schedule for January of 2019! Tuesday, January 1st: No episode! Tuesday, January 8th: Episode #96 - A Motley Crew: La Capitán's Time-Displaced Teammates Tuesday, January 15th: Episode #97 - Story Arc: Baptism by Fire/War of Heliopolis/Horus of Two Horizons Tuesday, January 22nd: Editor's Note #26 Tuesday, January 29th: Episode #98 - Post-OblivAeon OblivAeon Environments See you next year!
Editor's Note #25
It's time for the Letters Page Listeners' Choice Awards nominations announcement! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:35:30 We have a special guest for this episode, and he makes the show even better! We spend the first portion of this recording discussing the recently announced awards. Once you've listened to all of that - including the most excellent question nominations - it's time to vote on your favorites! Check out the voting form here. After that, we SHOULD get to the schedule, but we're a week behind on that, so go to the Letters Page Patreon and vote on what episodes will start off 2019. So much voting! (The schedule for January 2019 will be announced in next week's episode.) And then, after all of those things, we finally get to your questions with the help of our special guest! We start in on the questions at just after the 44 minute mark. Only one episode left this year, folks! Join us next week for some holiday cheer!
Episode #94 - Disparate Reinforcements
Let's talk about all the heroes from the OblivAeon Mission Deck! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:03:42 Only a few minutes of goofs and gags before we get to a brief overview! Then, just after the 4 minute mark, we're right on to your insightful and exhaustive questions! The first question goes through ALL of the mission deck heroes, so that takes up the bulk of the episode. The question after that asks about the Be The Gate heroes, who cross over a little with the Mission Deck, but not entirely! Still, fair game. We will be recording this month's Editor's Note live on Friday, December 14th, and we'll be going over your nominations for the Letters Page Awards then! If you want to be a part of that recording, check out our Patreon!
Episode #93 - Disparation: Inversiverse Dark Watch
From morally grey to just straight-up evil - what could go wrong?! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:21:27 After the usual goofing around at the beginning, in a shocking change of pace, we bring back the Overview! There, we do some setting explanation to help place what's going on here, both in the world - or Multiverse, rather - of Sentinel Comics and in the metaverse, as well. We also talk about both Rook Cities. Two? Yes, two. But more about one than the other. Then, we get to your questions right after the 12 minute mark. And, as has been the case with some recent episodes, we let the story happen bit by bit in the answers to your questions! Good questions, everyone. Right after the 1 hour and 2 minute mark, Christopher's voice changes to a much more gravelly version. Here's a peek behind the curtain: we lost about 10 minutes of audio from the original recording of this episode. Something weird happened and it was gone. Fortunately, we had very good notes, and as soon as we got back from PAX Unplugged, Christopher and Adam re-recorded that section, and we're actually way happier with the way it turned out this time. Honestly, if we could just re-record every episode 3-5 times before putting the audio live, they'd be even better... but that's ridiculous. Anyway! Christopher's voice was pretty wrecked from the convention, as per usual, but you only have to hear it sounding so rough until around the 1 hour and 13 minute mark. Thanks for listening, everyone! As ever, check out our Patreon for even more stuff!
Episode #92 - Perestroika
It's time for an episode about a pretty new team of villains from another era! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:22:00 No overview today - it's straight to questions! No dilly-dallying, even! Right down to business! Our first question is from the creator of the Sentinel Comics Wiki. Hats off to him - that wiki is useful to lots of folks, including us! We go on after that letter with its many illuminating questions to more great questions from great question writers! At the end of the episode, we mention the first annual 2018 Letters Page Podcast awards! More information in last week's Editor's Note, and here's the form for Nominations! This week is PAX Unplugged, and much of GTG will be there, including Christopher, Trevor, and Maggie! If you're on the Letters Page Patreon, we've got an event going on Saturday evening: learn more here! We hope to see you there!
Editor's Note #24
Time for another Editor's Note! Lots of fun and announcements here! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:23:48 First thing, after mild tomfoolery, we announce the first annual Letters Page Podcast Awards! Two categories, four awards each! Awards for Episodes Best Storytelling Episode Best Audio Production Episode Funniest Episode Worst Episode Awards for Questions Most Revealing Question Funniest Question Saddest Question Best Fan Theory Question Nominate episodes and questions using this form! Nominations are live until December 13th! Also, here's the upcoming schedule: Tuesday, December 4th: Episode #93 - Inversiverse Dark Watch Tuesday, December 11th: Episode #94 - Disparation: Heroes of the Mission Deck Tuesday, December 18th: Editor's Note #25 Tuesday, December 25th: Episode #95 - Happy Holidays! And here's a photo of our calendar! Not shown on that calendar is when we're recording episode #93. We're doing that first thing next week, so make sure you get your Inversiverse Dark Watch questions in by the end of this week! Finally, after all of that, we get to your questions just before the 19 minute mark. In this Editor's Note, we answer questions about: OblivAeon Math Power levels Creating realities Funerals The 4th Wall The Sentinel Comics Animated Universe Names Continuity Baron Blade Miss Information Luminary Incapacitation The Operative The Ennead Video Game Art Other Questions Jansa Vi Dero voice actor Languages Stan Lee... 'nuff said
Episode 91 - Inversiverse Prime Wardens
A group of characters you know as heroes but in this other reality are far from it! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:22:51 After some brief goofs, we give a brief overview of the Inversiverse and what we're talking about specifically today. Then, we get right to your questions at only 6 minutes into the episode! Around the 14 minute mark, at the end of the first question, we get a request for pictures of each member of Perestroika for the upcoming episode. I put them on the Patreon, but available to not just Patreon supporters, but everyone! Check them out here. The second question takes us on a journey through the story of Seraph, who ends up being way cooler than anyone expected. Why are your expectations of us so low? Give us some credit here, folks! Whew! That's a lot of story telling! More questions give away even more, which is what we're here to do. If you have any questions for the Perestroika episode, get them in now, as we're recording that on this Friday! And the voting for the December episodes is already happening on the Letters Page Patreon!
Episode 90 - NightMist & Harpy
Two of our favorite magical friends! Show Notes: Run Time: 50:20 Hey folks! We're into the new format, and we're still having fun and revealing things that we haven't said before, so that's great! After some nonsense times at the beginning, we get right into talking about where the stories we've told of these two land in the history of Sentinel Comics, plus also some other high-speed recapping! That goes right up until it's time for your questions, about 8 minutes into the episode. After many delightful questions, we actually do a now-rare future section just after the 45 minute mark. And there's a notable reveal there! We've already done some restructuring over on The Letters Page Patreon, but there are more tweaks to come over the course of this month. It's easier than ever to jump into our community now, and we're excited to see folks join the Discord every day! Hope to see you there (but if you can't no worries - we still love you)!
Episode 89 - Something Wicked...
It's time for some terror! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:07:21 OK, we do start off pretty silly, but don't worry, we get to questions in the first few minutes, and then we are very serious and very scary. No, that's not true, the first few minutes of questions are still silly. But then! A scary story! In fact, spoilers, if you don't like scary stories, you probably want to skip the tale from roughly the 7 minute mark to just before 38 minutes in. And then, on to more questions and stories! Near the end of the episode, we talk about the arts that Adam has been doing and posting on his Twitter this month. They're all here on the Sentinel Wiki! This is the last episode of October, so we read ALL of the names for the last time! Also, restructuring of our Patreon is happening later today, so look forward to that!
Editor's Note #23
Big stuff in this update! Letters Page AND OblivAeon! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:55:58 We start off by talking about this very podcast! First, the format of the show itself: we'll be recording every Friday (barring scheduling conflicts) and we'll be putting out episodes on Tuesdays. This includes Editor's Notes, which will be recorded live for all Patreon supporters. Also, Extrasodes are going the way of the fondly remembered Interludes. Farewell, Extrasodes! Focusing this show down to the key elements. Each month, we'll have an episode every Tuesday, with the exception of the second to the last Tuesday of the month, which will be an Editor's Note. Makes sense? Good! Next up, we cover the way that you can be a part of The Letters Page and support the show! The Letters Page Patreon is getting boiled down just to the important stuff as well. Thus, starting next month, there will be two Patreon levels: $1: Collectors: You get access to the Patreon, including the live Editor's Notes and anything else we post exclusively to the Patreon. $10: Contributors: This is full access. Topic submission and voting, interactions with Christopher and Adam on the Discord and live interactions during the Editor's Notes recordings. We're excited to open up this community to more people this way, and also focus the show a bit, as well! Look forward to the Patreon changes next week! Then, we get to the schedule for November: Tuesday, November 6th: Episode #90 - NightMist & Harpy Tuesday, November 13th: Episode #91 - Inversiverse: Prime Wardens Tuesday, November 20th: Editor's Note #24 Tuesday, November 27th: Episode #92 - Perestroika After all that business, we get to your questions at around the 15 minute mark! And wow, do you have a lot more questions about OblivAeon! At the very end of the episode, we mention that an expansion for Spirit Island is currently on Kickstarter! It's awesome! Go check it out! Thank you so much for listening. We'll catch you next week for a SPOOOoooOOOoooOOOKY episode!
Episode 88 - The Art and Mechanics of Incapacitation
When the heroes are down and out, what's going on? Show Notes: Run Time: 2:34:06 We're talking about every single hero character card twice over, plus every Vengeance/VotM villain character card, so we have a lot to cover today. As a result, we get right down to business! Just before the 2 hour mark, we finally get to the villain character cards. Whew! So many cards! At around two hours and 13 minutes in, we answer some questions! Your questions, in fact! We've got an important Editor's Note coming up in two days - this Thursday, we do our OblivAeon follow-up Editor's Note, in which we also talk about how the Letters Page (and the associated Patreon) is changing! See you then!
Extrasode #7 - Casting the Voices of Sentinel Comics
Who sounds like whom? Show Notes: Run Time: 1:39:09 The final Extrasode! Going out with a bang! This is a pretty interesting look at how we think about a lot of our characters. But, starting next month, no more Extrasodes. The time of the Extrasode has come to an end. More on that topic in next week's Editor's Note. (Which is being recorded live today at 11 AM Central - anyone on our Patreon can watch that live recording!) We go through a bunch of casting for well over an hour (with unexpected help from the Irreplaceable Taffyman), and then we get to a few questions starting around an hour and 23 minutes in. SPOILERS INCOMING! We recommend that you listen to the audio to learn who we would love to cast in each role, but here's a list (with a few post-recording notes): Freedom Five & Friends Legacy: Travis Willingham Bunker: Jensen Ackles The Wraith: Grey DeLisle Tachyon: Tara Strong Absolute Zero: Jimmi Simpson Unity: Ashley Eckstein Young Legacy: Hynden Walch F5 villains Baron Blade: Jason Isaacs Citizen Dawn: Jennifer Hale Grand Warlord Voss: Tony Jay Omnitron: Willem Dafoe Miss Information: Tress MacNeille Fright Train: Terry Crews Ermine: Ashly Burch Proletariat: George Buza Friction: Erin Yvette Chokepoint: Shannon Kenny (We mistakenly said "Shannon Kelly" in the episode) Progeny: N/A Prime Wardens Argent Adept: Billy Boyd Captain Cosmic: James McAvoy Tempest: Doug Jones Haka: Dee Bradley Baker Fanatic: Alanna Ubach PW Villains Akash'Bhuta: Elizabeth Peña Apostate: Clancy Brown Infinitor: Jeremy Irons Blood Countess: Rosario Dawson (Since recording, we've been convinced that it actually should be Patty Mattson) Biomancer: Faran Tahir Kaargra Warfang: Lucy Lawless Deadline: Liam O'Brien Dark Watch Mr Fixer: Phil LaMarr Expatriette: Kelly Hu Setback: Jason Marsden NightMist: Colleen Clinkenbeard Harpy: Mae Whitman DW Villains Chairman: Marton Csokas Operative: Nika Futterman Plague Rat: Fred Tatasciore Spite: Brian Drummond Heartbreaker: Desmond Harrington Kismet: Jennie Kwan GloomWeaver: Mark Hamill Zhu Long: James Hong Other Heroes The Scholar: Ron Perlman Ra / Blake Washington Jr.: Nolan North Parse: Rose Byrne Chrono-Ranger: Matthew Mercer The Visionary: Seychelle Gabriel The Naturalist: Chiwetel Ejiofor K.N.Y.F.E.: Kelly MacDonald Southwest Sentinels Doctor Medico: Jaime Camil (We later decided off the air that this could have been Nestor Carbonell.) Mainstay: Patrick Warburton The Idealist: Jessie Flower Writhe: Jeffrey Combs Omnitron-X: Cillian Murphy Sky-Scraper: Laura Bailey Benchmark: Khary Payton Guise: John Mulaney Other Villains The Dreamer: Kath Soucie The Hippo: Brad Garrett La Capitan: Penelope Cruz Greazer Clutch: John DiMaggio Highbrow: Dame Judi Dench Revenant: Reed Diamond The Ennead Atum: Kevin Michael Richardson The others: N/A Slaughterhouse Six Ambuscade: Gaspard Ulliel Glamour: Barbara Goodson Desert Eagle: N/A Ray Manta: Maurice LaMarche Revolt: Dante Basco Magman: N/A Green Grosser: Rob Paulsen (We now like Weird Al more for this one.) Wager Master: Nick Kroll OblivAeon: Keith David
Episode 87 - Sentinel Comics Animated Universe, Phase Two (Part 2)
Two shows and two movies! All totally real! (Note: this is yet another lie.) Show Notes: Run Time: 2:17:59 We're excited to finally be getting back to the animated series for this episode! Lots to get through here. We start right off with season 1 of the Prime Wardens show. Around 29 minutes in, we get into the two movies after finishing the Prime Wardens show. Both movies! Two of them. Then, just before 41 minutes in, we finally dive into the Dark Watch show, which takes a good deal longer than anything else. We clearly went a bit overboard on this part, but we were inspired! Finally, we get to a few questions at the 2 hour and 6 minute mark. More exciting episodes coming soon! Plus, if you're at the Contributor level on the Patreon, you'll be able to join us this Thursday morning for a live recording of a bit Editor's Note (which will be released in audio form next week). See you then!
Episode 86 - Burying the Blade
The final Baron Blade story of the Multiverse! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:12:01 Sure, we are still the fools that mess around for the first few minutes of the episode, but then we get right down to the story! And what a story!! We go through all 12 issues of the Burying the Blade limited series, though not in a page-by-page way, so much as a "telling all the story" method. Just before the 37 minute mark, we use the long-lost spoilers tag! There is spoilery stuff in here for the OblivAeon story, so if you want to avoid that info for a bit more, skip from there to the questions section! Speaking of which, we get to your questions just after the 45 minute mark. We'll be recording this month's Extrasode live on this Thursday morning, so if you're a Letters Page Patreon supporter at that level, come join us for that!
Episode 85 - Create a Story Live!
We take another stab at making a live story element! What are we going to make? We have no idea. Show Notes: Run Time: 1:24:10 This episode is all over the place, as we intentionally did no planning, letting our creative process take us where it would... and it turned out pretty interesting! Listen on to discover a bit of world building as we craft it. (After we spend the first 6 minutes stalling...) We get to live questions right around the one hour and 12 minute mark. These are all questions from the Discord chat, as questions couldn't have been written in for a topic that no one could predict! At the end, we mention briefly that we're looking at doing some Patreon restructuring, which we are going to be doing at the end of October! This will be the last month of Patreon working the way it currently does - next month, it'll be different! We'll be talking more about that over the course of this month.
Episode 84 - OblivAeon, part 2
The end of the end... or is it? Show Notes: Run Time: 2:14:02 We get right down to the brassiest of tacks! And it's a good thing, too - there's plenty to talk about, still! We get to your questions about an hour and 27 minutes in. Thank you all for listening through the end of the Multiverse! Catch you next month for the very episodes for which you voted!
Editor's Note #22
An Editor's Note for between the two OblivAeon episodes! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:01:10 We answer questions NOT about the OblivAeon episodes! However, we will be talking about those in the next Editor's Note! IMPORTANT NOTE! The morning that this episode is released, we'll be doing a live recording of a "create a story live" episode! It's happening, today, September 20th at 11 AM Central! The live showing will be viewable by everyone on the Patreon! Come join in! Here's the upcoming schedule: Tuesday, October 2nd: Episode #85: Create a Story Live! (Recording today!) Tuesday, October 9th: Episode #86: Story Arc: Burying the Blade Tuesday, October 16th: Episode #87: SCAUniverse, Phase Two (Part 2) Thursday, October 18th: Extrasode #7: Casting the Voices of Sentinel Comics Tuesday, October 23rd: Episode #88: The Art and Mechanics of Incapacitation Thursday, October 25th: Editor's Note #23 Tuesday, October 30th: Episode #89: Something Wicked… (Halloween Special) And here's the customary photo of next month's release calendar: The bulk of the questions section of this episode is spent on various topics from the Vertex line of Sentinel Comics, but after that, we also go on to talk about a few other things, including: When Sentinel Comics stories happen in the "real world" Super-pets? "Super ultra kawaii" manga comics? And even some thanks! We hope you can join us at 11 AM, Central today for our live "create something" episode recording! And look forward to part 2 of the OblivAeon story next Tuesday! 🐼
Episode 83 - OblivAeon, part 1
It's officially the beginning of the end. Show Notes Run Time: 2:16:09 We jump right into the story, not wasting too much time messing around as we often do. And! You get to hear hints of some new music! What could this music be? Only time will tell. Initially, we go through snapshots of various events that lead up to OblivAeon. But, as we get deeper into the OblivAeon story, we zoom in more and more. That said, it's half an hour into the episode before OblivAeon finally reaches Earth. And by that point, there have already been two major character deaths. Yikes! Just past an hour and 51 minutes in, we get to some of your OblivAeon questions. More coming next week! Upcoming cool event: on Thursday morning of this very week, we'll be doing a live stream for all of our Patreon supporters! We're releasing another "Create Something Live" episode in early October, and we're recording it on Thursday, September 20th, at 11 AM Central time. Only the Contributor level supporters will be in the chat, but the video will be available to everyone on the Letters Page Patreon. Also, this morning, we're launching a Kickstarter for the great game Homebrewers. Go check it out. It's genuinely a blast. Look forward to the second part of the OblivAeon story next week!
Episode 82 - Scions
The end of the beginning of the end. Or is it the beginning of the end of the beginning? Show Notes: Run Time: 2:03:17 We start with important info: don't listen to this episode. That is, if you don't have OblivAeon yet, we think you should wait. Now, if you're cool about spoilers, then go for it. But there's a few big things in this episode, and it's only going to get worst as the month progresses. That said, we're shipping out more and more copies of OblivAeon every day, so you will have it soon! So, after some chatting and disclaiming, we get into the overview of the scions' stories just before the 5 minute mark. And we start with a bunch of stuff about OblivAeon's backstory, in fact! This episode starts off FAST! After going through all of the scions, we get to your questions - following the same structure as the scion overview - at around 44 minutes into the episode. I'm not going to say more in these show notes. Like I mentioned above, some big reveals here, so you should listen and experience it yourself! More on OblivAeon next week!
Extrasode #6 - Adam and Christopher Destroy the World
The most ill-advised episode ever. Show Notes: Run Time: 1:28:25 As we quickly realize, us formulating and planning out ways to destroy the world or take over all the people or anything along those lines... makes for a pretty dark episode. We're definitely going on some watch lists now. That said, a lot of the episode is caught up in arguing semantics and logistics. This is why supervillains frequently work alone. If they did work together, they'd be more likely to make a podcast or a bunch of games. For those of you on the Letters Page Patreon, tomorrow morning the voting will go up for what episodes we will create next month! The topic submission stuff is up now, but today's the last day to submit topics that we'll look at for next month. Get ready to vote on September 7th!
Episode 81 - Multiverse Recap
Let's talk about... EVERYTHING. Show Notes: Run Time: 3:03:21 This episode is the most info-dump episode we've ever done, but it's all gotta get out there. We're doing a lot of connecting the dots between stories we've told across all of the episodes leading up to this one. But there's still lots of story to be found here! We jump right into it, digging in hard to the year by year of Sentinel Comics, since the beginning of the Golden Age. Not really a lot to say in the show notes that we're not saying in the episode - we go through it all! You're just going to have to listen to find out more! After 2 grueling hours and 16 arduous minutes of overview, we finally get to your questions. As promised just after the 2 hour and 49 minute mark: Brian, here's that cover! We have a brief future segment around the 2 hour and 56 minute mark, and then proceed on to a brief closing, including name reading. This month is just getting started, and it's already heavy stuff! Thanks for listening!
