Episode #149 - Writers' Room: Disparation Vol. 2 Issue #21

Let's get super ultra kawaii!! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:46:06 So, we get into the meta-topic right off the bat, and Adam has to explain a bunch of stuff to me because I'm just not as familiar with the medium. Which, turns out to be fine, because I'm familiar enough with the tropes to make the story happen! But, I'm getting ahead of myself. For that, you'll have to listen to the overview, which starts just before 14 minutes into the episode. (But before that, we go on about some of our favorite anime movies and TV shows.) The overview section is all over the place. We have to figure out where this story lands in Sentinel Comics history, what kind of story we're telling, who it's about, surprise ourselves with who the main characters are... it's a lot. But! We make it work, and are pleased with how it turns out. At a bit before the 1 hour and 4 minute mark, we get to your questions! They are many, and not just about today's topic - we also talk about some aliens. Just because. At 1 hour and 38ish minutes in, we talk a bit about the cover, which you can see above. Next episode will be a Creative Process all about pets in Sentinel Comics! How's that going to go? Only time will tell!

Episode #148: Creative Process - D-List Heroes

We're all over the place on this one! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:47:38 This episode took us longer to record than anything else we've made in... a long time. We got started started around 11 AM and didn't finish until 4 PM. Whew! Anyway, enjoy these additions to the world of Sentinel Comics! Do these characters seem not much for you? Well, yeah, that's why they never really took off - D-List all the way! At around the 57 minute mark, we finally get to questions. We answer questions about D-List heroes, but also about various Thorathian topics, just because there were a lot of them in the backlog. We hope to see you Friday at 11 AM (Central Time) for a LIVE Editor's Note! Want to watch it live and even take part? Join our Patreon!

Episode #147 - Writers' Room: A Day In The Life: Bunker

Let's talk about Tyler Vance! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:10:06 We craft three stories, possibly in record time? We were shocked at how well it went, honestly. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do! After speedy storytelling, we get into your questions just after the 29 minute mark. We talk about the cover - which you can see above - at about 1 hour and 2 minutes in. Adam went all in on the Barry Windsor-Smith style! If you're a contributor to the Letters Page Patreon, voting is up now! Go tell us what to do! If you're not on the Letters Page Patreon, maybe today is the day? Only you can decide! Catch y'all next time!

Epiode #146 - Writers' Room: Fanatic, Vol. 2, #32

Adam's birth month is over! There will be feasting and dancing in May next year! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:15:31 After some birth month/day talk, we get into the overview a couple minutes in, where we first attempt to clear up some misconceptions, which devolves into a conversation not at all pertinent to the world of Sentinel Comics. Then, we once again go into too many issues for a single Writers' Room episode, but not as bad as other recent episodes. We just have a penchant for writing in arcs. At a bit before the 38 minute mark, we get to your delightful questions! And then, at just before the 1 hour and 10 minute mark, we talk very briefly about the cover, which you can see above. If you're a contributor to the Letters Page Patreon, the topic submission form for this month went live yesterday! Let us know who you want us to talk about! We're settling into the new way things work here, and we're excited to create even more stories for you.

Episode #145 - Writers' Room: Cosmic Tales, Vol. 2, Issue #512

One issue? In this economy? Nah, let's do a bunch of issues! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:30:52 For whatever reason, we felt like being overachievers today. Enjoy more than one issue! Also, we get to talk not just action, but also intrigue... and politics! Maerynian politics, that is. We get to your questions just after the 45 minute mark. Questions today brought to you by Zap Dragon, who I just recently found out is also Ehkrickor! Spoilers, I guess. This is the last episode that will be released in Adam's birth month this year! However, the next episode we record will be recorded still in his birth month, so the celebration isn't quite over yet! Looking forward to next time, in which we create more issues!

Editor's Note #42

A long Editors Note mostly about Sentinel Comics: the Roleplaying Game! Show Notes: Run Time: 2:11:38 Adam's birth month continues! Also, we just released the preview of the SCRPG core rulebook to the Kickstarter backers last week, so we celebrated with an episode with SO MANY questions about the game! Here's the upcoming schedule: Tuesday, June 2nd: Episode #146 - Writers' Room: Citizens Hammer & Anvil Tuesday, June 9th: Episode #147 - Writers' Room: Day in the Life: Bunker Tuesday, June 16th: Episode #148 - Creative Process: D-List Heroes Tuesday, June 23rd: Editor's Note #43 Tuesday, June 30th: Episode #149 - Writers' Room: Disparation: Anime/Manga Catch you next time!

May 19, 20202h 11m

Episode #144 - Writers' Room: Justice Comics, Vol. 1, Issue #527

It's time for another episode! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:11:50 Ready to learn about a 90s event we've never talked about before? We had a lot of fun with this one - we hope you do, too! After about 40 minutes of crafting and telling this story (in more parts than we intended), we get to your questions. And only a few minutes into the question section, I get to read a couple big reveals for upcoming stuff! Exciting times, these. At just before the 1 hour and 3 minute mark, we do the "cover" section, which also breaks down the order of the parts of the Strike Force Invasion event. We hope you can join us Friday for a live recording of Editor's Note #42!

May 12, 20201h 11m

Episode #143 - Writers' Room: Cosmic Tales, Vol. 02, Issue #541

Cosmic? Yeah! What's more cosmic than a lady that makes robots with her brain and her best friend, a robot that she didn't make with her brain? Show Notes: Run Time: 1:29:07 This is the first episode of Adam's birth month. If you're not into birth month celebrations for Adam... well, I've got bad news for you. That's what May is going to be. He likes a big to do about the whole thing, and I like humoring him. So there. We talk about that (and a few other things, but mostly the birth month stuff) for about 4 minutes, and then we hit the ground running! This one is a lot of fun to see come together live, as we didn't know at all where it would go - the cosmic thing really threw a curveball into any of our prior thoughts, but it turned out great! At least, we like it. We hope you do, too! Just after 44 minutes in, we dig into your piles of delightful questions. Thank you for your multitudinous queries! A bit after the 1 hour and 24 minute mark, we talk briefly about the cover! Thanks for listening! Catch you next time! Celebrate for Adam!

May 5, 20201h 28m

Episode #142 - Creative Process: Visionary Supporting Cast

Let's envision some friends! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:19:11 We're both settling into this new way of life more and are feeling way better, thanks for asking! As a result, we've got a real downer of a supporting cast episode, just so you know. We spend barely over one minute with banter and intro and just get right into it! And we create some stuff of various levels of good and bad feeling. Around 37 minutes in, we get to your questions! And what a delightful parcel of questions they are. Good stuff explored in the question section today. Join us next time, as we kick off Adam's birth month!

Editor's Note #41

Our first remote live editor's note! The audio quality is better than we feared it would be, but it's still not up to Trevor-approved-quality! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:13:00 Christopher's doing pretty well, but Adam's spiraling into chaos. If nothing else, this means that the more things change, the more they stay - in some small ways - the same. Next month is May, which means it's Adam's birth-month! Celebrate! Here's the schedule for the month of partying: Tuesday, May 5th: Episode #143 - Writers' Room: Unity and Omnitron (X or U) Tuesday, May 12th: Episode #144 - Writers' Room: post-Bloodsworn Sky-Scraper Tuesday, May 19th: Editor's Note #42 Tuesday, May 26th: Episode #145 - Writers' Room: Leviathan Here's a calendar! We talked about a bunch of things this Editor's Note, including but not limited to: OblivAeon, of course Meta-Meta-Meta-Meta-Meta-Meta... The Sentinels of Freedom video game, now on Steam! Go check it out! Absolute Zero Degenerate Schema Romance. Around the 41 minute mark, Amelia Ryans in the live chat made a Tinder profile for Absolute Zero. Here it is: Theories of How the Multiverse Works Sentinel Comics in other properties Todd Lito Parse in Rook City Un-super heroes Fake comic book backstory organization methods and more! Get your questions in for those upcoming topics! And thank you to all of our Patreon supporters - we do this for YOU!

Apr 21, 20201h 12m

Episode #141 - Writers' Room: RevoCorp Presents #23

A story of a new standard! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:31:46 Adam and I are both rather stir crazy already, but we're excited to be talking about Sentinel Comics! A lot going on here. We banter a bit, but then dig into justifying Benchmark's backstory against issue numbers. We solve everything, and there are no more problems. Everything is fine. Oh, and also do a bit of thinking on morality/human nature. Finally, we get into crafting and telling the story of the issue just after 14 minutes in. We get to your questions at just before the 40 minute mark. We answer a lot of questions, not just about Benchmark, but also about Chrono-Ranger! And, finally, we talk about the cover around 1 hour and 26 minutes in. Thanks for listening! If you're on the Patreon, join us on Friday at 11 AM, Central time for the first live Editor's Note done entirely over the internet!

Apr 14, 20201h 31m

Episode #140 - Writers' Room: Mystery Comics, Vol. 2, Issue #476

April will make a fool out of all of us! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:30:04 This episode is the first one we've ever recorded remotely! If you can tell right away, apologies for the drop in audio quality. We'd much rather record in person, but the health and safety of Adam's family and Christopher's cat are too important to sacrifice. If you can't detect a notable drop in quality, that's because Trevor is an AV wizard! As a result of not recording using our usual setup, we aren't able to pause recording really, so these episodes are much more "uncut". Trevor still edits them quite a bit, but we attempt to push through and do as much "live" as possible. Does that make for a better listening experience? Heck, we don't know - we've never done this before! We talk a bit about social distancing and other current events for a bit, get to work around 8 minutes in, get to your questions a little bit after the 45 minute mark, and then talk about the cover for a few minutes starting just before the 1 hour and 19 minute mark before calling it a day. All in all, a worthwhile Friday afternoon, that we now deliver to you on a Tuesday! We look forward to unveiling more of the Multiverse for you soon!

Apr 7, 20201h 29m

Episode #139 - Creative Process: Absolute Zero Villains

Some frigid foes! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:33:59 Minimal goofs, mostly due to existential dread. Tough times, these. Here's the image we discussed early on in the overview segment: Did you make this? If you're the one who made this, let us know! Good job. We'd love to give you credit for your good work. We hope you're all getting plenty of social distancing! Join us next month for more shelter in place and talk about Sentinel Comics!

Episode #138 - Writers' Room: Dark Watch Vol. 1, Issue #121

Hello, friends! Or foes?! Who can tell?!?! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:12:49 So, this episode is the hero/villain team-up episode. We didn't NOT succeed at that... but you'll have to listen to find out what happens. It's certainly an attempt at the given topic! We make up for it by talking about a bunch more comics than just one, if that's any consolation to you. This Friday, March 20th, is our LIVE Editor's Note recording! If you're on the Letters Page Patreon, please come join in at 11 AM, Central! We'll be in the Discord as well to take your questions. And, if you're a Contributor on the Patreon, the voting is up now for next month's episodes! Go vote! Voting is important!

Episode #137 - Tome of the Bizarre Vol. 3, Issue #61

Chrono-Ranger in Feudal Japan! Show Notes: Run Time: 58:28 Under an hour?! An episode that doesn't break the hour mark?!?! It's true. We only had two questions for this episode, so the questions section is much shorter than usual. Not to fear, though - we've already been amassing questions for the next couple episodes, and there are lots. This one just happened to be a bit more on the quiet side. We get to the overview portion in which we establish the type of story, determine when it lands, and then craft and tell the tale, starting a bit before the 4 minute mark. That process takes us more than half of the episode, so we get to questions after 38 minutes in. Then, only several minutes later, we talk about the cover right after the 51 minute mark. And that's the show! Thanks everyone for listening! Don't forget, if you're on the Letters Page Patreon, you can join us for a live show on March 20th! And if you're not on the Letters Page Patreon... well, you could be!

Episode #136 - Creative Process: Naturalist Supporting Cast

We have been wrong in the past about the Naturalist, but not today! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:20:47 We get into a LOT on this one! We just sort of hit the ground running, and keep up the pace for quite a while! For those of you who like timestamps, we get to the overview around 5 and a half minutes in, the question section just before the 35 minute mark, and finally button things up around an hour and 14 minutes in. A couple minutes after that, we can't remember how the link to our Patreon is spelled. You can find the answer here! Thanks for listening, everyone! When the next episode goes live, I'll be in international waters doing my best to avoid that COVID-19, but I'll be back the week after that for a live show! See you then!

Mar 3, 20201h 20m

Episode #135 - Writers' Room: Mystery Comics Vol. 2, Issue #109

Parse gets murdery! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:26:31 To be fair, Parse started out very murdery, and then mellowed over time. Today, we tell one of those early stories, and we do not hold back! Slight content warning on this one for (audio discussion of) graphic violence, as well as some drugs (not really drugs used, though - just drugs being generally around). Also, she's a jerk. Just so you know. Forewarned is forearmed, and with the amount Parse uses that bow, she's gotta have great forearms, right? At around the 47 minute mark, we get into questions. You asked them - we answer them! We talk a bit about the cover just after 1 hour and 16 minutes in, though you likely have already seen the cover by now. It's in these show notes! Thanks everyone for listening! We're getting close to March, in which the recording and episode release schedule starts to get more normal. Thanks for bearing with us!

Feb 25, 20201h 26m

Editor's Note #39

Adam's back! I'm excited. Are you excited? You should be. Show Notes: Run Time: 1:30:22 I'd say we spend a lot of time goofing around, but let's be real: Adam and I only see each other once a week these days, so there's a LOT of goofing to be done. Gotta get it all out of our systems! Here's the upcoming schedule! Tuesday, March 3rd: Episode #136 - Creative Process: Naturalist supporting cast Tuesday, March 10th: Episode #137 - Writer's Room: Chrono-Ranger in Feudal Japan Tuesday, March 17th: Episode #138 - Writer's Room: Hero/Villain team-up Tuesday, March 24th: Editor's Note #40 Tuesday, March 31st: Episode #139 - Creative Process: Absolute Zero's villains And who doesn't love a photo of a calendar? That big red stripe on the calendar is when I'm out of town in March, so we're making up with a recording on the first Thursday, and then we're back on schedule in real time with March's Editor's Note. No more being a week ahead of schedule for us! We field a lot of questions on a lot of topics! Such as: OblivAeon Sentinel Comics: the Roleplaying Game Fanatic Valentimes Sunglasses Totally Real Medical Science and more! Thanks for listening, everyone! We hope you like us as much as we like you!

Feb 18, 20201h 30m

Episode #134 - Writers' Room: Disparation Vol. 1, #04

A familiar team, yet one that never was! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:06:35 We do another early Disparation story! These are always fun. Just a note on Letters Page timeline: we're pretty much back on our regular schedule but the episode numbering is one behind since we interjected with last week's non-standard episode. As a result, the first episode for March will be what was going to be the last February episode. We'll still have voting and Editor's Notes as usual, and we're still a week ahead on recording time, just in case Adam has to pull away for a week for baby reasons, which is not entirely unlikely. We shall see! Catch you next time!

Feb 11, 20201h 6m

Not Even A Real Episode

WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING Show Notes: Run Time: 40:06 This isn't a real episode! I mean, it has all of the elements you'd expect: an overview, a questions section, and even some things from the past that you might not expect! However, it's missing a major key part that makes Letters Page episodes possible. You'll just have to listen to find out. More notes? Nah, no more notes. Take a listen. It's a fun time.

Feb 4, 202040 min

Episode #133 - Writers' Room: America's Finest Legacy #236

You didn't request an episode about the death of Legacy, but here we are! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:19:54 As per the topic, we tell a story about a villain vs a villain, but with unexpected twists! We get to the Overview just after 10 minutes in, questions at the 38 minute mark, and talk about the above cover at around 1 hour and 14 minutes. Note: the last question we answer is one of the best questions with one of the best answer, and also this is one of my favorite covers that Adam has ever done. Catch you next time!

Episode #132 - Writers' Room: Disparation Vol. 2, Issue #74

We're finally back! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:08:32 We're here in the future! And we're going to talk about the past! A not-too-distant but very different past! We tell a tale out of the Inversiverse, and things get twisty! We finally start in with overviewing and storytelling around four and a half minutes in. After all that noodling, we finally get to your questions at the 47 minute mark. If you're on the Letters Page Patreon, join us this coming Friday for our anniversary live show! We didn't intend for it to be specifically an anniversary live show, but it turns out that we're doing that recording on the same date that we launched our first episode in 2017! So long ago! No one was alive then! Thanks, everyone!

It's Christmas Eve! Let's talk about an avenging angel with absolutely no chill whatsoever. Show Notes: Run Time: 1:20:50 We talk a bit about Christmas, and then, about 4 minutes in, we get to work! We expected this one to be tough, but it turns out that we were visited by the ghost of Sentinel Comics past, and they did the work for us! Just after the 53 minute mark, we start in on your questions. At just before an hour and 15 minutes in, we talk a bit about the cover, which is shown above. Happy Holidays, everyone! See you all next year!

Dec 24, 20191h 20m

Editor's Note #37

It's the Holiday times! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:35:49 We had a pile of technical difficulties, but we still made it work! Thanks to Trevor for cleaning up everything with his fancy editing. Here's the upcoming schedule: Tuesday, January 7rd: Beginning of the year: no episode Tuesday, January 14th: Episode #132 - Writers' Room: Disparation: Inversiverse Tuesday, January 21th: Editor's Note #38 Tuesday, January 28th: Episode #133 - Writers' Room: Villain vs Villain We also had a pile of questions! Catch you next time! EDIT: As mentioned in the show, Adam asks his SCRPG players three questions at the start of a campaign: What is your secret reason for becoming a hero? What do you stand to lose because of your double life? What would you kill for?

Dec 17, 20191h 35m

Episode #130 - Writers' Room: Cosmic Tales Vol. 2 Issues #180 & 181

We accidentally got over ambitious with this one! Behold: Two covers! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:17:59 We just got back from PAX Unplugged, but we recorded this right before we left! We goofed around for a few minutes, but after only about 4 minutes of goofs, we got right to business! We craft enough framing for a story that we end up doing both parts 1 and 2 in one episode! So speedy! Around the 50 minute mark, we get into your questions. At about an hour and 10 minutes in, we talk a bit about the covers, both of which can be seen above! This episode is released on Tuesday, December 10th. This Friday, December 13th, we'll be recording a live Editor's Note at 11 AM Central time! So, if you're on The Letters Page Patreon, you can watch and potentially even join in! We hope to see you there!

The Eeeeeeeennnnnnclave of the Eeeennnnddddlliiiiiiiiiinnggsss!!! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:09:53 We recorded this episode the day before Thanksgiving, but now it's the week after Thanksgiving! How does time even work? We talk about a bunch of space stuff, to the point of even crafting and telling multiple tales, due to the anthology nature of the Cosmic Tales book at this point. Around 32 minutes in, we get to your questions! The day after this episode releases, we're recording another episode on a Wednesday - two weeks in a row! Amazing! This one is happening because we're about to be in Philadelphia for PAX Unplugged, so if you're around there, come find us! Catch you next time!

Episode #128 - Writers' Room: Deepest Space #1

Good morning, everyone! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:28:14 We banter about RPG stuff, then get into a series of conversations about just what comic book we're talking about today. You already know, due to the name of the episode and also the nifty cover art above! We have a blast putting together all the building blocks, telling the story, answering your question, and discussing the cover. We hope you enjoy it, too!

Episode #127 - Creative Process: Animated Series Phase 3

Time for a very animated episode! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:38:51 In this episode, we start off by talking a bit about the previous animated series stuff, as it's all quite excellent. Seriously, go listen to those other animated series episodes - they're great. Then, after about four and a half minutes of banter, we get into this latest phase of animated shows: four shows (including one entirely new show) and two movies! That takes us... a while. Finally, we get to your questions right around the one hour and eighteen minute mark. Thank you for the great questions, everyone! The week this episode comes out will feature a live Editor's Note recording at 11 AM Central Time this coming Friday, November 15th! We hope to catch you then!

Episode #126 - Writer's Room: Disparation Vol. 2 Issue #50

Let's get EXTREME! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:31:11 This one is about Citizen Dawn in the Extremeverse! We don't know where it's going when we start, but it ends up in a REALLY awesome place. Go figure. Like, how did we start with the seed of "Citizen Dawn" and get to that cover above? Only one way to find out! We're throwing the horns for Trevor, who did a badass job editing this one. He always does great, but he brought the noise on this one. (In this case, "brought the noise" is a good thing.) Thanks for listening, everyone!

Episode #125 - Creative Process: Monsters and Magic

Let's get Monstrous and Magical? Who are we kidding - we're always monstrous and magical. Show Notes: Run Time: 1:18:43 We start out assuming we've already covered all the monsters and magics... but we prove that untrue quite swiftly. But then! Your questions are what unlock even MORE great content! We start in on those questions just after the 30 minute mark. Thanks everyone for listening to these spooky but not too spooky episodes - but don't you fret: November is right around the corner! We're recording two episodes this week - tomorrow is a Disparation episode about the Extremeverse and Friday we're recording a Creative Process episode about the Animated Series, Phase 3. So, get your questions in for those episodes ASAP!

Episode #122 - Creative Process: Count Barzakh

It's the first creepy episode of the second most creepy month: October! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:12:50 After confessing our sins, we get to our creative process overview at around the 6 minute mark. And we are on fire! (At least, in our humble opinions.) Apparently, we should create in the face of adversity more often! One successful creation segment later, we get to your questions, at just before the 50 minute mark. Thank you for your questions! Also, thanks for listening! Don't forget to have a spooky month! (But not as spooky as next month!)

Episode #121 - Creative Process: Minions and Henchlings

We talk about the bad guys who work for the bad guys... and also some deep philosophical topics? Show Notes: Run Time: 1:40:05 Good morning, everyone! After a very short amount of banter, we go to an overview only two and a half minutes into the show. There, we go through most every major villain and how they use minions, if at all, who those minions are, and more! This process ends up taking a while, and we have a fun time of it, all told. We hope you do, too! Then, just before the one hour and 3 minute mark, we get into your questions! We hope that we answer all questions to your satisfaction. Don't send your minions after us! Catch us next time for another Creative Process episode, this one all about Count Barzakh. What's his place in the history of Sentinel Comics? Join us as we figure that out together! If you want input on what topics are considered, voting on the final topic line-up for each month, and being part of our monthly live Editor's Notes, you can join us on the Letters Page Patreon! Gen Con Live 2019!

We had a very fun Gen Con this year! Show Notes: Run Time: 1:28:49 We talk about all manner of things, enjoy a very different musical guest than ever before, and are entirely serious the entire time! (One of those things might not be true. Hard to say.) And here's a Trevor's eye view of the room before we started while people were still coming in. There were a lot of people this year! Good thing Gen Con gave us a bigger room than ever before. Let's pack even more in next year! Microsode #2, 2019

We're at it again - posting something when we said we wouldn't. What rapscallions. You can't take us anywhere. Show Notes: Run Time: 8:13 This is the second week of our two week Gen Con hiatus, and yet, we just couldn't NOT post SOMETHING, right? Last week was Gen Con, as we lie about on the air. For this Microsode, we answer the NEWEST, the FRESHEST, the RIGHT OFF THE PRESSES letter - one sent in mere hours before we recorded! Amazing. So fresh and so clean clean. For those of you who couldn't be at Gen Con, next week's episode is a Trevor-edited recording of our Gen Con Live Episode! We hope it was a great success - at the time of this writing, we're still several days away from it, but we look forward to it with great anticipation. For those of you on The Letters Page Patreon, we hope you'll join us on Friday, August 16th at 11 AM (Central Time) for our live recording of this month's Editor's Note! Those are always a good time. See you then! Or, rather, you'll see us then. You know what we mean.

Episode #117 - Writers' Room: Freedom Four #88

Our first ever Writers' Room episode! We're going to make a story together! Show notes: Run Time: 1:39:55 Only a couple minutes in, we claim we're getting right down to work... and then we goof around talking about cuts of steak or something. But then! We tell you what we're talking about, who's in the issue, and build the entire story of that issue out on the air! After a LOT of work, we take a fun assortment of questions, starting around the 1 hour and 15 minute mark. No episode next week or the week after, due to Gen Con. We hope to see as many of you there as possible!
