Episode 14 - Tachyon
This episode has arrived before it even left! Show Notes: Run Time: 79:15 Three and a half minutes in, we mention that there's an upcoming Freedom Five Episode. We do a lot of, "We'll talk about that in the [some character] episode," so I figured I might as well give you the official schedule through the end of May, at least. Today: Tachyon! Next Week: Lilian Corvus (Matriarch, Harpy, Pinion) May 2nd: Absolute Zero May 9th: Vengeful Five May 16th: Unity May 23rd: Freedom Five May 30th: Chokepoint Worry not! We'll still do an Interlude about the upcoming schedule at the end of this month. I genuinely have no idea how many of our listeners read these show notes. We talk about a couple of Tachyon's interns, Krystal Lee and Devra Caspit. A bit after the sixteen minute mark, we tell an interesting story involving Tachyon and Tempest in the Bloodsworn Colosseum. The last big pre-OblivAeon story we talk about for Tachyon is the Progeny story. We go over that starting around 19:30. This is a major turning point for Tachyon's powers and story. At the start of the Questions segment, we do a bit of Talking About How To Questions. We get SO MANY questions, and we love them. But they've gotta be tagged properly or we might miss it. And that would be sad! We don't want to miss your questions. Oh, boy. At just after the 55 minute mark, we're gonna say a thing about Tachyon that you're not all going to love. But it's true! At 58:15, we reveal the name of a foe that has never been publicly named before! At around the hour mark, we dig into the Iron Legacy timeline: Tachyon's role there, some things she does, some things that happen to her - it's all pretty rough. At the end of the question segment around 68 minutes in, we talk about a Tachyon story that happened in Fanatic's book Absolution. We do some defining of blood magic and vampires, too! See you next week to talk about Tachyon's cousin!
Interlude 3 - the Betterlude!
This interlude is called the Betterlude, because we recorded it once already, but now it's back and better than ever! Show Notes: Run Time: 23:31 Things we talk about! Parsons family powers Baron Blade in multiple places? Kismet in no places? Omnitron stuff Expatriette in another reality Where are the comics? Thanks for listening!
Episode 13 - GloomWeaver
Magicks from another realm! An ancient evil entity! What more could you ask for? Show Notes: Run Time: 89:06 Just as a heads up, Adam gets real demanding in this episode. About fifteen minutes into the episode, we try to figure out what a group of Nazi Ghosts would be called. A haunt? A heil? Help us out! We sneak in stories for a lot of other characters here. NightMist, Spite, Lifeline, even Doctor Medico! (Really big NightMist reveal during the Q&A portion, in particular...) At around the 38 minute mark, he talk about Richard Launius. He's co-designed a game that we're publishing this year! It's called Fate of the Elder Gods. Find out more here. Trevor does a great job with the sound effects at 54:30ish. Thank you, Trevor.
Episode 12 - NightMist
Time to talk about NightMist! Lots of big story stuff here. Before the show even properly starts, Christopher jumps in to apologize for not posting an Interlude last week. We recorded it! It was really great. And then, the files got eaten by the internet, somehow. We have new plans in place to keep that from happening in the future (we're glad that we lost an Interlude and not an entire Episode), but we'll just have to re-record all that stuff this Friday after we record the GloomWeaver episode. Sorry about that! We're pretty annoyed about it, but what can be done? Just gotta move on. Also! A few episodes ago we mentioned that a Letters Page Bingo type thing could be fun. Lo and behold, it has happened! Awesome Letters Page listener Kyle Grossman has created THIRTY different Letters Page Bingo cards, and you can find them all here! Now, onto the episode itself! Show Notes: Run Time: 78:02 Before going on to introducing Faye Diamond, we first talk about her father Thomas, and before that, his father Joe Diamond. (As we discuss in the beginning of the Q&A portion, yes, that Joe Diamond from the game Arkham Horror crosses over with Faye Diamond from Sentinel Comics, due to a creation connection.) Adam and Christopher get into sound effects and weird voices during this episode. Around the 32 minute mark, we talk about NightMist during the Vengeance event, and how she gets shot with a regression dart and loses her powers. That's pictured in Baron Blade's Vengeance deck. So, that happened. But it doesn't last! In a couple of ways, actually. Around 43:00, we talk about NightMist encountering and losing to Progeny. This story is told during the OblivAeon lead-up ARG. And the next story about NightMist and The Harpy is also told during that ARG. And that is the end of the NightMist story.
Episode 11 - The Chairman
Time for crime! The sordid history of Chairman Pike is about to be revealed! Show Notes: Run Time: 77:56 We start by talking about Jonathan Pike, the man you founded Pike Industries. We quickly move on from there. We mention that the hero Black Fist is one of the first people to really oppose The Organization. More on him in the Mister Fixer episode. (Which Adam claims as his favorite episode so far. Christopher's is the Omnitron episode.) Around the 19 minute mark, we give some indispensable advice for villains and crime lords. Graham Pike goes on a quest to find the immortal dragon man, and meets Zhu Long as a result. Even gets to visit the Temple of Zhu Long. Lots of Zhu Long appearances in this episode. Around the 27 minute mark, we discuss the five branches of The Organization. Then, just after the half hour point, we introduce The Operative. This all leads to 32:20, when we break down the sigil of The Organization: Were you already aware of the meaning behind the sigil of The Organization? Let us know! Get excited for BYOS! (Bring your own steak!)
Episode 10 - Mister Fixer
Time to talk about H.R. "Slim" Walker! Show Notes: Run time: 83:28 We're doing things slightly differently today: instead of moving through the character's life chronologically, we go in order of what stuff appeared in the pages of Sentinel Comics. We start by talking about the character Black Fist! This art is the only depiction of Black Fist in the Sentinels of the Multiverse card game: (Hint: In this art, Black Fist is neither Legacy nor the giant green space alien person. He's the other person. The one next to Legacy.) Twelveish minutes into the episode, we move forward to talking about "Slim" - who then becomes Mister Fixer - he looks like the first image posted above. Just a guy who works in an auto shop. Around the 18 minute mark, we rewind to actually go into Harry Robert Walker's complete backstory, starting from his youth. At 19:20, we talk about terrible cities. Adam mentions Baghdad. Turns out, the city with the highest murder rate in the world is Caracas, Venezuela. Which is where Christopher grew up. So, that's cool? No worries, though - we live in St. Louis now. Which is #15 on this list. OH GEEZE. Around 33:30, the Dark Watch story comes up. When Expatriette, Setback, and NightMist go to the Temple of Zhu Long, this is what they find: Christopher and Adam talk for almost an entire minute from 35:10 to 36:00 just on the viscosity and taste of the liquid in that vat. You're welcome (to just skip that part of the episode). I want to apologize right now for the "wolf hunting" sub-plot that happens during the Q&A portion of the podcast. It was not planned, and I really don't know where it came from. Just after the 65 minute mark, we talk about the art above that depicts Black Fist and Legacy with Jansa Vi Dero. We don't look at the art - just talk about it from memory. Christopher thinks that Legacy's boots do a "flop-over thing". They do not. Adam thinks Legacy is wearing his underwear on the outside. Legacy is not. Both Christopher and Adam were wrong, and are ashamed. Next week, we talk about The Chairman and The Organization! See you then!
Episode 9 - Omnitron
Omnitron and Omnitron and Omnitron and Omnitron! And more! This is both a villain and a hero episode! And even more! Show Notes: Run Time: 68:35 At the very beginning, we mention that our business partner Paul makes a video series with his brother where they talk about rockets and stuff. It's called Specific Impulse, and they have a bunch of great videos on YouTube! Check them out! At the top of these show notes you can see the initial iteration of Omnitron in its "Rampaging Robot" form, rather than its Factory form. We'll show a few different versions of Omnitron in these show notes as they come up in the episode. As promised in the episode, here is the chart that helps explain the Omnitron(s) timelines: For details on how this chart works and what each color refers to, listen to the episode! Warning: With the upcoming images in this point, we recommend you don't scroll through them all now, but wait and scroll down to each of them as we reveal their existence in the episode, just to have the correct forms of Omnitron in mind as we tell the various stories. Now, a parade of Omnitrons! Omnitron II, AKA Cosmic Omnitron: On Mars! Omnitron III, AKA Omni-Blade: Baron Blade, what were you thinking? Omnitron IV, which is not a robot entity so much as a barely intelligent robotics factory: The last non-hero incarnation of Omnitron in the Sentinels of the Multiverse Timeline! To jump ahead, Omnitron-X: Our hero! Then, Omnitron-U: And the event that brought Omnitron-U to life! Then, moving on to the Sentinel Tactics Timeline: Omnitron V! And its robotic soulmate, offspring, and counterpart, the Omni-Reaper! The combination of both together create the dual-bodied entity known as Omnitron VI! And in the upcoming Sentinel Comics RPG? What is the fate of Omnitron there? Only time will tell... At 63:35ish, Christopher says, "In the Sentinel Tactics timeline, we have the hero: Omnitron." As you can probably tell from context, he meant the Sentinel Comics RPG timeline. He just got caught up in the moment! Whoops! Thanks for listening! Join us next week for an episode about Mister Fixer, and the week after that for The Chairman! Get your questions in now!
Episode 8 - Bunker
Another member of the Freedom Five! It's Bunker! An important note before getting into the actual show notes for the episode. This episode was recorded at the beginning of the year, as we knew that this week, we would be unable to record an episode due to various conventions. As a result, the Q&A portion of the episode is MUCH shorter, as we had far fewer Bunker questions. Not to worry! On May 23rd, we'll be posting Episode 19 - Freedom Five Recap. That episode has been planned since just after we posted the episode about The Wraith, as we've gotten a bunch of follow up questions on both Legacy and The Wraith. That episode will just be a huge Q&A section covering all of your Freedom Five issues, including Bunker questions! So, apologies for the shortness of this episode, but we'll make it up to you in May! Get your questions in using our handy question form! Now, back to the standard show notes and such! Show Notes: Run Time: 45:23 Even though this episode is short, we're still proud of it because we get to talk a bit about how things work behind the scenes in Sentinel Comics, so that's cool. For hints at the Bunker and Wraith relationship, see images from the OblivAeon lead-up ARG, here and here. Episode enhanced by Rabit.
Episode 7 - Kismet
Time for some tricks - we're gonna talk about Kismet! Show Notes: Run Time: 75:06 In the intro, Christopher mentions the shirt he's wearing. Because he's a fun guy. We talk about The Block - an extradimensional prison detached from time and space - a few times in this episode. It's pictured behind Kismet there in the cover image for this episode. As mentioned, Kismet exists because of a winning entry to our 2012 Create A Villain Contest! Well done, Alex. Episode enhanced by Rabit.
Episode 6 - Setback
Let's talk Setback! Show Notes: Run Time: 84:16 We were really tempted to post this show a day late, just because of who this episode is about... but we didn't want to let our listeners down! If you haven't listened to the Expatriette episode yet, we suggest you do so before the Q&A portion of this episode - lots of connected stuff. We mention that the building he went to for medical testing was a RevoCorp building. More on RevoCorp in the Baron Blade episode! Not a lot of notes today! This episode is pretty self contained. See you next week for Setback's old flame and nemesis, Kismet! Episode enhanced by Rabit.
Episode 5 - Citizen Dawn
Time for another villain episode! Today, we talk all about the leader of the Citizens of the Sun! Show Notes: Run Time: 86:41 As a note, today's episode is about a pretty terrible person. She's a villain, and not really a sympathetic one. Just so you know. Because of the impressive number of questions you all asked about Citizen Dawn, today's episode features a slightly shorter character overview segment, followed by a much longer Q&A section. Great work everyone - keep those questions coming! The character we're talking about this week is the mother of the character we talked about last week, so there's a lot of information you'll want in this episode. If you missed last week's episode, go check it out! Then come back. No rush - we'll wait. Here's the photographic evidence of Adam's inverted Citizens of the Sun mug: We mention that Citizens Hammer and Anvil are the best. They are. True fact. Next week, we talk about Setback! We're recording that episode on Thursday, February 16th - a day earlier than usual - so get your questions in by Thursday morning! This episode was enhanced by Brian Jewett.
Episode 4 - Expatriette
It's time for everyone's favorite gun-totin' purple-haired markswoman! Show Notes: Run Time: 83:05 Hoo boy! We're having trouble sticking to this "one-hour-show" thing, aren't we? We just have so much to say! We mention that Amanda Cohen - AKA Expatriette - is not related to Leonard Cohen. She's really not. But he's great. In attempt to appeal to younger generations, Christopher uses the phrase "on fleek". No, he doesn't know how to use it or what it means. But does anyone? We talk about Expatriette's first unfinished mission, in which she fought and failed to kill a mechanic in Slim's Auto Shop. I wonder who he could be... After Christopher and Adam briefly discuss six-sided dice vs. twenty-sided dice as "standard" dice, Christopher mentions he'll make a survey and put it in the show notes. Here it is! We'll probably stop taking responses at some point... maybe not, though! Both Christopher and Adam bust out their fake French accents during the Q&A portion of this episode. We're sorry. We're so sorry. See you next week for an episode about Expatriette's mom! Special thanks to Brian Jewett for helping enhance the episode.
Interlude 2 - The Trevorlude
Hey, folks! This Interlude is called the Trevorlude for reasons! Come and get it! Show Notes: Run time: 11:48 Right off the bat, we talk about a game of Sentinels of the Multiverse that we played. Christopher says that none of the heroes had hands. This doesn't mean that they had their hands chopped off - the players controlling those heroes had no cards in their hands. Just to be clear. Now, on to the important stuff - upcoming episodes! February 7th: Expatriette February 14th: Citizen Dawn February 21st: Setback February 28th: Kismet Got questions on those characters? Ask them now! Special thanks to Rabit for helping enhance this episode.
Episode 3 - Baron Blade
Our first villain episode had to be about Baron Blade, right? Show Notes: Run Time: 69:27 Oh, man. Some big reveals in this episode. Let's get to it! Just before the seven-minute mark, Christopher mentions that we've said before that we're not going to turn this into a Star Wars podcast. Trevor has to edit at least a few minutes of Star Wars discussion out of almost every episode. We like Star Wars. While discussing the "Trial of Baron Blade" story, we talk about the super-powered law blog, Law and the Multiverse. We recommend you check it out. On Thursday, we'll post an Interlude episode about what episodes you can look forward to in February. Got questions for us? We welcome them! Ask them using our handy form! Special thanks to Rabit for helping enhance this episode.
Episode 2 - The Wraith
We're talking about The Wraith! Show Notes: Run Time: 78:01 In the first three minutes, Christopher says that there's another 45 minutes of episode to go. He vastly underestimated how much he and Adam are able to talk about The Wraith. By about half an hour. Because she lives, works, and fights there, we talk a lot about Rook City. Check out the Sentinels Wiki for more information on that terrible place. Adam perfectly NAILS the name "Madame Mittermeier's Fantastical Festival of Conundrums and Curiosities" right off the top of his head. Props. Also, we linked to the Sentinels Wiki a bunch in these show notes. That's because the fine folks over there do such a great job. Keep up the good work, Wiki-mancers! Don't forget to rate us on iTunes! And anywhere else that we can be rated! Yelp? Foursquare? The Better Business Bureau? Rate us everywhere! Special thanks to Brian Jewett for helping enhance this episode.
Interlude 1 - The Multiverse and More
Welcome to our first Interlude episode! Run Time: 21:46 Interlude episodes will be shorter episodes that we release on occasional Thursdays. We'll use these to answer general questions, additional questions about characters that we've covered in previous episodes, and other supplemental information. Today, we're covering a bit of overarching info about the world of Sentinel Comics - how it works, what our vision for it involves, etc. Also, we discuss what you might find in The Letters Page podcast, going forward. Only one Show Note for this episode: at the 19 minute mark, we mention that there have been a few episodes of The Letters Page at this point. Obviously, that's not true. We had recorded this Interlude with plans to release it after we had a few episodes in the bag, but upon listening to it, we realized it would be a great "Welcome to The Letters Page" episode, so here we are! No other Show Notes on this episode - everything else is pretty well contained in this Interlude! So, listen in as we talk about the Multiverse, Sentinel Comics, and what to look forward to in upcoming episodes of The Letters Page! Got questions for us? Ask them here! Special thanks to Rabit for helping enhance this episode.
Episode 1 - Legacy
It's our first episode! And it's about Legacy! If you have questions for Christopher and Adam, ask them here! Show Notes: Run Time: 66:50 We mention Joseph Parson's connection to Paul Revere and his famous ride. For more information on that, click this link. We apologize for alienating all listeners named Pauline in the first ten minutes of our first episode ever. Sorry to all of you for making fun of your antique name. Christopher says "um" a bunch in this episode. He's just really excited about actually getting to do this show. Please forgive him - he promises to not "um" as much in future episodes. We claim that the Baron Blade episode is coming in 3-6 years. We're confident that we can make that deadline... but look, things happen. We talk glowingly about Danny "D-Lo" Lott, who asked the first of our questions. Here is one of his videos. About some game or other. Just after the 50 minute mark, we both say the word "alongside" a whole bunch of times. Not sure why this is a note, but hey, something to look forward to. If you're into that kind of thing. At the end of the episode, we mention that Legacy will be in the Sentinel Comics RPG in 2017. That's this year, folks. Stay tuned!
