Coronavirus & Trump: Catastrophe Realized
EWelcome to the NFN Radio News Podcast, brought to you by Not Fake News.biz. I’m your host, Bob Gatty, founder and editor of Not Fake News.Three-plus years ago when Donald Trump was elected president of the United States, one of my first thoughts was, “Man, I hope we don’t get into a situation where he decides to push the nuclear hot button.”That, of course, would have been a catastrophe of massive proportions. But is it anything unlike what is happening today with the Coronavirus? That’s what I wrote about today on Not Fake News. Coronavirus: Death Panels & the Blame Game
EWelcome to the NFN Radio News Podcast, brought to you by Not Fake News.biz. I’m your host, Bob Gatty, founder and editor of Not Fake News. The lack of leadership from Donald Trump as the coronavirus was first apparent in January through today has been appalling. Not Fake News writer Chris Waldron takes a look at that, including how the administration’s inaction and lack of foresight may put doctors in the position of actually forming what Chris calls “death squads.”I’m narrating Chris’ blog from today’s Not Fake News. Coronavirus: Trump's Ultimate Excuse
EIt’s amazing…but it’s not surprising…how President Trump and right-wing governors are using the coronavirus pandemic to shove their pet projects and policies down our throats. In today’s podcast, Coronavirus: Trump’s Ultimate Excuse, we discuss three such examples, which became evident in just the last few days.Take a listen...Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-lean-to-the-left-podcast--4719048/support.

Trump, the Pillow-Man & the Scientists
EIn today’s podcast, we take a look at two guys that Donald Trump apparently listens to, one of whom is probably the one person who can pull us through this coronavirus pandemic with as little pain as possible…and the other, a self promoter who’s gotten rich off of pillows and says Trump was sent by God to save us all. And, for good measure, there’s some science based info from MIT that basically says the pain of social distancing and quarantines is needed, but in the end the economy will survive. So take a listen to…”Trump, the Pillow-man & the Scientists.” Here goes…Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-lean-to-the-left-podcast--4719048/support.

Coronavirus: Trump Would Make a Serial Killer Jealous
EThe coronavirus news keeps getting scarier and now, Dr. Anthony Fauci…the one person I believe more than any other on this…says we could see between 100,000 and 200,000 people die. Already, today, we passed the 3,000 who were killed in the 9/11 attack, and the deaths mount every day. So our esteemed president, Donald trump, cited a report that upwards of 2.2 million could die if we did nothing. So, he said, losing 100,000 would prove he’d done a good job. Disgusting. Meanwhile, states led by Democrats are having a tough time getting their emergency supplies from the feds, while republican states like florida, just skate through. So check out today’s podcast…”Coronavirus: Trump Would Make a “Serial Killer Jealous.” Here goes… Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-lean-to-the-left-podcast--4719048/support.

Attacking Healthcare in the Midst of a Pandemic
ELast week, I was appalled to read that South Carolina’s senior Senator, Lindsey Graham, tried to hold up the $2 trillion coronavirus economic relief bill because he thought people – including nurses – might make more money from the expanded unemployment benefits than if they went to work.Hope he doesn’t get sick and need a nurse…just saying. Then, yesterday, his buddy, Donald Trump, practically accused hospitals of requesting far more face masks and ventilators than they could possibly use, suggesting they must be up to no good.Holy crap! So, I put it together in “Attacking Healthcare in the Midst of a Pandemic”. Donald Trump's Holocaust
ETrump’s words and inactions about the coronavirus are literally killing people. You could say we are experiencing the Donald Trump Holocaust. As of today, there were 120,763 coronavirus cases in the U.S. and 2,016 deaths. Trump was warned back in December that this was coming. He did nothing. In this episode, Not Fake News.biz writer Susan Hutchinson excoriates Trump for his slow, sluggish, inept and ego-driven response to the catastrophe that has befallen our country. Trump Bullies TV Stations Over Coronavirus Ad
EA Joe Biden SuperPac called Priorities USA has been running a terrific ad that pairs President Trump’s comments about the coronavirus to an image of an ever growing timeline that shows increasing numbers of cases in the U.S.The ad has the Trump campaign so ticked off that their lawyers have sent a letter out to the stations threatening that the FCC could remove their operating licenses if they don’t stop airing the commercial. What happened to the First Amendment in this country? What happened to free speech? Looks like we are getting ever closer to a dictatorship and his supporters could seem to care less.Take a listen to Trump bullies TV Stations Over Coronavirus AdBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-lean-to-the-left-podcast--4719048/support.

Coronavirus: When the Docs Get Sick
EYesterday’s podcast was satire. This is not. It’s deadly serious. The question is really simple. What will we do if our hospitals and medical facilities can’t take care of us – not because of a lack of beds or not enough ventilators – but because the doctors and nurses are sick with the coronavirus? That is a scary thought, but it could happen largely because there aren’t enough face masks, gloves and protective gowns to keep them safe. And shockingly, some hospitals reportedly aren’t even allowing doctors and nurses to use the personal protective equipment on hand. Take a listen to Coronavirus: When the Docs Get Sick. Trump's Coronavirus Easter Parade
EWith the coronavirus news getting worse by the hour, it seems, Donald Trump is saying he wants to get everything back to normal by Easter, just a couple weeks away.He says we can’t let the cure – shutting down the economy – be worse than the illness – hundreds of people dying from the coronavirus. And so, he hopes we can have the churches packed on Easter Sunday and everything raring to go.So that inspired this bit of satire that I wrote for Not Fake News. Coronavirus: Who Lives, Who Dies?
EAs the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread across the United States with the number of confirmed cases and deaths continuing to accelerate, it’s become clear that basic medical supplies – including lifesaving ventilators – is in desperate short supply.Ventilators are needed in severe coronavirus cases to help people in respiratory distress to breath, and without it, many will not survive. But the shortage has become so dire that doctors may soon be forced to decide who will get one and who will not.Take a listen to Cornavirus: Who Lives? Madam President?
EIn this episode, we explore why … in the 223 years since George Washington left the presidency in 1797, no woman has been elected to lead our nation. We brought together a panel of knowledgeable, politically astute women, to discuss this question in commemoration of International Women’s Day March 8.They are:Susan Hutchinson, a retired medical technologist active in the Democratic Party in South Carolina;Stacie Pearman, a social worker and South Carolina Democratic party activist;and Stacy Fitzgerald, of Virginia, a communications expert and political activist. The questions for them were simple: Why can’t the U.S. seem to elect a woman as president of the United States? What factors seem to conspire against this? And what needs to change in American society to make it possible for a woman to be elected to the presidency? The discussion is insightful and lively, and veers into the crisis America faces as a result of the presidency of Donald Trump and the desperate need to defeat him. Republican Lies & the Promise of America
EI was struck by two opinion columns today that I believe, combined, put the situation our country faces today with the Coronavirus epidemic into perspective. One discusses how a major political party’s lies to the American people have made it “dangerous” to the nation. The other recalls the promise of America, and the extent to which that is now gone. That, too, is a danger to America.Take a listen to Republican Lies & the Promise of America, Sunday, March 22, 2020… Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-lean-to-the-left-podcast--4719048/support.

Cashing in on the Coronavirus
EEvery day millions of Americans, whose life savings is in the stock market in one form or another, watch those savings disappear as the catastrophic impact of the coronavirus becomes increasingly apparent. Big time Wall Street investors are worried sick, and so are the rest of us – especially those of us whose retirement savings have been invested there. Had we known about the terrible toll this would take on our investments, many of us would have moved our savings to cash or other safer havens. Some members of Congress, who did have such information, apparently have done exactly that. Was that right? Was that ethical? Trump's Coronavirus Response: Attack the Messenger
EIn the midst of the coronavirus crisis, at a time when virtually every American is worried sick, if not actually sick, President Donald Trump continues to attack, and the media is his favorite target. During his lengthy press briefings this week, he’s at least twice attacked news reporters and outlets he doesn’t like, even when thrown a softball question that would have given him a chance to provide assurance to the American people. And, he continues to brag about his brilliant actions, despite the fact that he ignored ominous warnings that should have spurred action. Now, we are all paying the consequences. Racism & Politics in the Coronavirus
EToday, Friday, March 20, we published two blogs by Not Fake News writer Chris Waldron that focus on two important aspects of the coronavirus pandemic – Donald Trump’s penchant for calling it the “China virus” and his proposal to send voters a check for up to $2,000 as part of his emergency economic recovery plan.Waldron believes Trump’s “China virus” label is a racist effort to cast blame and is irresponsible. He believes Trump’s “buy off” plan is an attempt to buy voters’ support in the face of his administration’s poor performance in handling the crisis. So, we’re combining those blogs today in a single podcast, which I’m narrating for Chris. Hope? Or False Hope?
EToday President Trump and other administration officials held a news conference that apparently was intended to calm coronavirus fears as well as Wall Street jitters, as nearly all of the stock market gains since his election have been lost. That, of course, is the big deal for Trump. That and the fact that a probable recession could doom his chances for re-election. So today he claimed that FDA had approved one drug and almost approved another that can help make those who contract COVID-19 to, in his words, get better. Only problem is, his own FDA chief cautioned against “false hope.” The picture isn’t quite as rosy as Trump would have us believe. So we tackled that today in our blog on Not Fake News.biz. But That's Not What I Asked!
EHave you ever noticed how members of the Trump administration dodge questions from reporters, shucking and jiving, avoiding…doing almost anything to not answer what might be a difficult or embarrassing question.Politicians always do this and all too often the media lets them get away with it. But sometimes not, and that seems to really tick off the Trump people, including Mr. Big Shot himself. Not Fake News writer Chris Waldron took a look at this in a blog today, March 16, on not fake news.biz. Crowdsourcing a Coronavirus Solution in the Face of Catastrophe
EWith all of the health, economic and technical experts at the disposal of the president of the United States, how comforting would it be if you knew that one of the sources used to create a response to the coronavirus was ideas crowdsourced from Facebook?Come to think of it, probably not that surprising at all, considering the fact that Trump doesn’t like science and prefers spinnable BS.But according to a Washington Post report, that is exactly what happened after Trump son-in-law commandeered the White House coronavirus response effort last week. He jumped in to save the day, helping to write Trump’s disastrous speech – the one where he sounded like a zombie on Percocet – and calling up his friends to get ideas from their Facebook friends. Then, Senator Sherrod Brown produced a letter proving that Trump did, in fact, know about the closing of that global health security office, despite the president’s claim to the contrary.Meanwhile, the situation continues to worsen and medical professionals warn of a catastrophe if cases skyrocket, like they did in Italy because of insufficient hospital and emergency room capacity. And, there are worries about danger to healthcare professionals, themselves.I took a look at all of that today, March 15, on Not Fake News.biz. The Coronavirus: Washington Responds
EI have to say, I was surprised when House Democrats and President Trump quickly reached agreement on a bill to help the American people weather the coronavirus pandemic. Just a few days ago, I predicted it would take weeks, or longer. That, of course, was based on the record of discord and disagreement that has permeated Washington ever since Trump’s election. But surprise, surprise. They actually were able to negotiate a reasonably effective solution to at least help with the economic difficulties caused by the pandemic, and now we’ll see if Mitch McConnell’s Republican-ruled Senate will take similar action in the face of this crisis that has shaken our nation. Here’s my blog from today, March 14, on Not Fake News.biz. Today, President Trump declared a state of emergency, which will free up additional federal assistance and some form of action is expected to come from Congress. Meanwhile, thoughSelf-interest, social media, and a President who dismisses science could worsen the impact of the coronavirus on all of us. Better Economic News, but Beware
EWelcome to the NFN Radio News Podcast, brought to you by Not Fake News.biz. I’m your host, Bob Gatty, founder and editor of Not Fake News. So, the stock market had a nice bounce back yesterday, gaining back more than half of Monday’s 2,000-plus point loss caused by concerns about the coronavirus and other oil-related jitters. Why did it rebound? Because investors liked hearing that Washington is working on a plan of economic assistance to help individuals and companies affected by the virus. Incredible to me that Trump’s biggest concern seems to be the ECONOMIC impact, not the fact that people are getting really sick and some are dying…but that’s just me. But I don’t think the optimism is very well founded. This is an election year and the politicians in charge of Washington these days haven’t exactly proven that they can act responsibly in the interests of the American people, not just in their own political interests. And, apparently, Wall Street investors, having had some time to digest all of this over night, decided they don’t trust Trump or Congress and the market hit the skids again today, giving back all of yesterday’s gains by lunchtime. Here’s the report from Not Fake News.biz written yesterday, March 10, 2020. Who knows what will happen next. Market Craters & Trump Fumes 'Fake News"
EToday we are experiencing some of the shock waves caused by the corona virus and the Trump administration’s late – and weak – response, which has been made worse by Trump’s effort to minimize the seriousness of this pandemic and his irrational determination to place blame. When the stock market plunged by 2,000 points yesterday, it was partly the news media’s fault, Trump said. And, once again, he tried to make President Obama the bad guy when its his own administration that has bungled this so far. Bernie Sanders when he ran for the Democratic Presidential nomination in 2016. Unfortunately, that nomination went to Hillary Clinton, for whom I, begrudgingly, voted because I realized that anything else would be a vote for Donald Trump. What struck me about Sanders was his no bones approach to campaigning. EThe economy is humming along nicely. Unemployment is down and the stock market is up. All indicators see no end in sight to this 11-year joy ride. So, of course, Trump and his supporters constantly tout his economic accomplishments, while belittling the tremendous strides President Obama made to right the sinking ship he inherited from George W. Bush during the Great Recession.Listen for more...Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-lean-to-the-left-podcast--4719048/support.

Want Mercury in Your Water?
EThe U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) plans to roll back an Obama-era regulation that among its benefits protects kids from brain damage even before they are born. The regulation involved is designed to limit harmful pollutants, like mercury, from power plants. The Trump administration wants it watered down to help the coal industry, even though that could put our health at risk.Ironically, the electric power industry, which originally opposed the regulation when the Obama administration first launched it in 2011, now opposes the EPA's rollback, saying they've already complied and the result has been far few pollutants being emitted by power plants. For the rest of the story...listen...Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-lean-to-the-left-podcast--4719048/support.

Sinking into Autocracy
ESome 1,100 former officials of the U.S. Justice Department have sent an open letter urging Attorney General William P. Barr to resign and warning that President Trump's use of that department as his own personal hit squad, enabled by Barr, threatens to lead the U.S. into autocracy."Governments that use the enormous power of law enforcement to punish their enemies and reward their allies are not constitutional republics; they are autocracies," the former DOJ officials wrote. For more, listen...Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-lean-to-the-left-podcast--4719048/support.

Giving Up on Climate Change
EA 74-year-old Canadian recently wrote in a Huffington Post article that he and his 64-year-old wife have decided that climate change is unstoppable, so the best they can do is to move someplace where they will be least affected so they can live out their remaining days in peace. But what about those who are younger and the generations to follow? Is it any wonder today's young voters aggressively embrace candidates who pledge to effectively combat climate change and preserve the planet? The Measure of a Man
EWho is the "manly man?" Donald Trump, the big mean spirited blowhard name caller, or the shorter (in stature) but potentially dangerous Democratic candidate, Michael Bloomberg, or the gay Pete Buttigieg, who has surged to become a serious contender for his party's presidential nomination? The Bob & Jackie Show: Pittsburghese, Itchy Nose, Paul Newman & More Nonsense
ECheck out the latest edition of The Bob & Jackie Show, recorded on Valentine's Day, that explores the somewhat wacky version of the English language spoken by many native residents of Pittsburgh, PA.The city is home to some of the most wonderful people in the world -- kind, caring, friendly, warm, generous -- but they also have their own special way of talking. What's "yunz?" Or "slippy", or "aarn"? What's a "jag off?"And, what, pray tell, does it mean if somebody looks at you and says, "Hey dude, Kennywood's open"? Trust me, they're not suggesting you buy tickets to the famed amusement park. It's something else, entirely. For more of this nonsense, listen...Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-lean-to-the-left-podcast--4719048/support.
