The money comes from the Paycheck Protection Program, provided by the $2 trillion CARES Act designed to provide economic relief to small businesses affected by the coronavirus pandemic.According to published reports, Yeezy LLC, a California company, received a loan of between $2 and $5 million. The company, identified as a black or African-American business, said the loan saved 160 jobs.California business records list Kanye West as the manager of Yeezy LLC, whose sneaker empire reportedly made $1.5 billion last year.Just another reason why West continues to go out of his way to help Trump, the racist president whose current election strategy is to stoke the racial divide. In a surprise decision that was welcomed by nearly 650,000 young immigrants across the country, the U.S. Supreme Court on June 18 rejected the Trump administration’s effort to toss out the program that protects undocumented immigrants brought to America as children…today, known as “dreamers.”The 5-4 decision, written by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., was a blow to Trump who, since September 2017, has sought to end the program, which had been launched by his predecessor, President Barack Obama via executive order. This is the story of a young dreamer, Carlos Loredo, who was brought by family to the U.S. when he was nine. For some 20 years, he has made a life here and now manages a thriving restaurant in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.Asked what the ruling means to him, Loredo used just one word. Freedom. After slavery was abolished, lynching emerged as a vicious tool of racial control to reestablish white supremacy and suppress black civil rights. More than 4,000 African Americans were lynched across 20 states between 1877 and 1950, according to “Lynching in America” from the Equal Justice Initiative.These lynchings were public acts of racial terrorism, intended to instill fear in entire black communities, and government officials often turned a blind eye or condoned the mob violence.The effects of racial terror lynchings are still being felt today, the Equal Justice Institute points out. President Trump hates the idea that several states are allowing people to vote by mail because of the coronavirus pandemic, claiming that it will lead to massive voter fraud. With the coronavirus pandemic grinding things to a halt, it’s been tough to just do ordinary, everyday things – like get a haircut, for example. I have no idea, really, what it must be like to live one’s life as a black man, not a white man. We all hear stories, and we see reports on the news about how young black men, especially, are subjected to unfair treatment simply because people are afraid of them.Why is that? Young whites commit just as many crimes of violence against people as do African Americans. According to the FBI, in fact, 67.5 percent of rapes in 2017 were committed by whites, compared to 28.7 percent by blacks. Aggravated assault, it was 62.1 to 33.5 percent. Nevertheless, that fear is ingrained in many white people and it’s translated into how they view people of color. What must it be like to live with that? To be afraid to jog in your neighborhood for fear of being shot? To be afraid to get a simple traffic ticket? To face prejudice and discrimination in every turn of the road?In South Carolina, there is a young black man, Jaime Harrison, who brings those experiences to his uphill campaign against entrenched Republican Senator Lindsey Graham. This morning I woke up to a tweet from President Trump calling the coronavirus “the plague from China.” It was another step in his determined campaign to brand China as the perpetrator of the pandemic that has so far cost upwards of 85,000 lives in the U.S. alone.That got me to thinking. Remember…just a little over a month ago when there was near panic because we didn’t have enough life-saving ventilators for the ever-increasing numbers of coronavirus patients?One of the reasons, of course, was that the Trump administration poo pooed the seriousness of the virus, with the president saying it would magically go away, and so no new ventilators were ordered until late March.Then, all of a sudden, Trump went into a tizzy and ordered U,S. automakers to start building ventilators – not exactly within their wheelhouse, so to speak. The photo shows a GM technician testing one of their new ventilators.Now, it looks like there’s a glut of the machines – with some reports saying the U.S. will be sending them to other countries who need them.
