Yesterday, the Senate declined to convict former president Donald Trump on charges of inciting the deadly insurrection that occurred at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.They acquitted him, however, with seven of the 50 Republican senators joining all Democrats in voting to convict Trump, but falling 10 short of the 2/3 majority needed for conviction.After the trial was over, Republican leader Mitch McConnell castigated Trump for encouraging the mob attack and suggested he should pay the price in court. He sounded like a Democrat making the case for conviction, but that was right after he had voted to let Trump off the hook, which means he still has political life.What about that? Last night when the House of Representatives formally delivered the articles of impeachment against Donald Trump to the Senate, I began to wonder what young school children must be thinking. Here we have a president of the United States who actually tried to attack our own government, really, our own country.Obviously, that’s not what children of die-hard Trump supporters will be told, unlike those kids whose parents really understand what Trump was trying to do, and who explain that to their children.That brought me to considering what children of future generations will be taught, and what they will think. And so today there were two significant developments that coincidentally occurred at the same time, one in the halls of Congress in Washington, DC, and the other in Delaware, where President-elect Joe Biden has his headquarters.In Washington, momentum began to get rid of Donald Trump – either by invoking the 25th amendment or rushing through impeachment.
