565 - How Genetic Engineering and Today's Crisis Will Shape The Future with Jamie Metzl

Medicine is changing everyday. We're all seeing this unfold right now. In front of our eyes. Some of the changes seems unreal. So I called up the expert of genetic engineering, Jamie Metlz to tell us what's a reality and what's science fiction. I wanted to learn what immunities we can develop? How is the current pandemic reshaping the future of medicine? And beyond that we talk about our global responsibility to reshape society. A lot of people are going to lose their jobs. And a lot of people already have. So how do you find your way in this new world? What can we do to land on our feet when the dust settles? I asked Jamie because he wasn't always a tech futurist or genomics expert. He started out as a writer. And switched careers because interest led him there. We have the opportunity to chase our interests now in a new way. Also, I've been getting great feedback on how these episodes around the coronavirus are helping people make sense in a really confusing time. So thanks for your support. 564 - Coronavirus Update: How to Boost your Immunity in Times of Pandemic with Harvard Medical School Professor & Biologist David Sinclair

How do we know when something is wrong with us? I want to understand the testing process we have for COVID19. I want to understand "symptomatic" cases vs. "asymptomatic" cases. And who's data should we trust? So I called David Sinclair. He runs The Sinclair Lab at Harvard Medical School and is the New York Bestselling author of "Lifespan: Why We Age?and Why We Don't Have To." I also want to know how do I build up my immune systems? What steps can I take RIGHT NOW? And how do I keep this going over time? And what's going on with testing for COVID19? What are the numbers? And why are they off? David breaks this down. And he explains which coronavirus tests are bringing us into the future of science and biology. He'll also help you understand who's at risk (everyone). And how to protect yourself. AND how to protect others. Because we're in this together. Also, I've been getting great feedback on how these episodes around the coronavirus are helping people make sense in a really confusing time. So thanks for your support. 563 - The GOOD News About Coronavirus (Let's Look at the Data) with Peter Diamandis, XPRIZE Founder & Futurist

I saw this line "How about some good news for a change." It was the first line in an article by Peter Diamandis, Founder & Executive Chairman of XPRIZE. The article is on his website, diamandis.com and I highly recommend checking it out. I emailed him as soon as I saw it. "Come on my podcast." And he did the next day. Because the world needs good news right now that can help us see the end of this pandemic, the truth in the numbers, and data and how to protect ourselves without panic. 562 - THE ULTIMATE QUARANTINE GUIDE to "What do I do now?" with Morning Brew CEO Alex Lieberman

For better or for worse a lot of people are not working right now. And that's going to be a serious issue in the economy. So, for anybody listening, I really stress this one thing: focus on making the right investments everyday in YOURSELF. Right now, with all this extra time, we get to learn who we are again. We get to learn new skills online. And offline. We get to be curious about old passions, try new things, get close with our kids or parents or partners, rediscover your family, etc. And if we look hard enough, we'll even find new business opportunities, or ways to help people, or get smarter. And more. So, for this episode, I called up Alex Lieberman, CEO and founder of Morning Brew, which is the only newsletter I read in the morning. I asked him about this excellent list he put together "THE ULTIMATE QUARANTINE GUIDE TO 'WHAT DO I DO NOW?'" You'll hear what's on the list. And how to make the most of your time right now. I'd love to hear which suggestions you like the most. And how you choose to spend your time now. Write me on twitter @jaltucher or on Instagram where I'm doing an IG LIVE everyday at 2pm EST while we get through this together. If you like this episode, and want to learn more about making extra income right now, then listen to episode 553 - How to Make Money by Buying an Established, Profitable Business Using None of Your Own Money with Carl Allen And Carl has a new book on this which you can get for 20% off at carlsbook.com/james I write about all my podcasts! 561 - How to Supplement your Income with Money Betting FOR or AGAINST Trump with PredictIt.Org Co-FounderJohn Phillips

Everyone believes their own opinion. Fact based. Or not. We're all (somehow) political "experts." But the truth no one really knows anything. It's all speculation. But you put your opinion to the test if you get skin in the game. Which is possible now thanks to John Phillips who co-founded the site PredictIt.org. I go on there to place bets on everything from how many tweets Trump is going to make on a particular day or around a specific news event to who will win the primary. And who will win the election. The site is great because it lets you see how right you really are. And you can make real wealth if you're right. It's not just betting. It's more like a stock market. You want to buy low. And sell high. So I asked John on the podcast if he's ever seen people make $50,000 on the site. He didn't flinch, "Oh yeah. People have quit their jobs." I want to help people understand what's happening in the world right now. We're all scared. But we don't have to be. Let's get the information. And go from there. I called up John Hopkin's Dr. Marty Makary to get straight information on coronavirus. He answered all my questions (many of which I get from you). So give it a listen. And you'll start to feel (hopefully) more calm and capable. 560 - Critical Coronavirus Update: The BEST and The WORST Case Scenarios with Johns Hopkins Dr. Marty Makary

"Don't believe the numbers you're seeing." This is Dr. Marty Makary's big message. The number of cases and deaths are radically underreported because a) we don't have tests, b) some countries are hiding their data, c) some people aren't showing symptoms yet, but have coronavirus and more. But listen. This podcast is not about fear. It's about knowledge and awareness and action. Right now, nobody really knows what's happening. Thew news and social media are giving us false predictions off "estimates" that don't even account for the thousands of people who can't get tested for COVID-19. Meanwhile, Amazon is out of toilet paper. People are signing their emails "Don't touch your face! Best, Joe." And I officially own two hazmat suits. But how do we really "flatten the curve?" This episode will give you the steps. And I also recorded a recap at the end to give you more of a summary. AND because this is so critical, I have a list of timestamps below. So you can rewind and fast-forward for the stats that you want to share with friends and loved ones the most. So here you go: to keep on with the trend of providing ACCURATE information from reputable people, I called up, Dr. Marty Makary, a Johns Hopkins doctor and policy expert who also wrote the New York Times bestseller "Unaccountable: What Hospitals Won't Tell You and How Transparency Can Revolutionize Health Care" and "The Price We Pay: What Broke American Health Care--and How to Fix It." 6:50 GOOD NEWS: we can anticipate we'll be clear in the summer. And more good news (for young people), you're at less risk 7:00 - But who's at risk? Let's hear stats from Dr. Marty 9:34 - Which countries have given honest data. And which haven't 10:58 - "Are we ready to see over a thousand Americans each day?" - Dr. Marty Makary 11:26 - Do we need a total lockdown? 12:18 - WHY there's a major misconception around the actual number of cases and deaths around COVID-19 in the U.S. 15:13 - "The notion that this is somehow contained is a notion we need to abandon. This is everywhere." - Dr. Marty Makary 18:06 - Is China lying about the number of deaths? 21:30 - HOW to get an accurate estimate based on REAL data everyday 24:13 - THESE behavior changes will reduce the societal transmission rate by 50% 25:25 - I ask Dr. Marty Makary about the data from the cruise ships and why only 27% of the people on board got coronavirus... and he explains why the data from the cruise ship is "the perfect case study" 29:35 - We talk about school shutdowns and travel bans 30:18 - "We need to break society down into two constructs: (1) essential and nonessential workers. And (2) high risk and low risk individuals." - Dr. Marty Markary / Hear Dr. M break down both of these ideas to figure out what categories you're in 31:50 - We explore The Hong Kong flu, which killed between 1.5 to 3 million people globally in 1968. And other global pandemics to compare the numbers... Dr. M says this "could be roughly 5-10x worse..." and explains why. 35 - We talk about the death rate for the flu 37:20 - Why there are no cures or medicines that slow down the virus 40:30 - Stay active. But don't go to the gym 42:20 - Where the media has gone wrong... and what the responsibility is for doctors in connection with the media 48:30 - We talk about the food supply chain 50 - How Americans are taking care of each other 52:40 - The math on how to estimate the potential death rate in the U.S. 54:40 - Why it's good to practice social distancing 56:00 - Will this come back in the winter? 59:17 - Will there be a second round of infection? Is it possible to become immune to COVID-19? And can the virus mutate? 1:02:50 - "This is a time for us to take care of each other, forget about these artificial, political boundaries and see the best in people." - Dr. Marty Makary 1:50:20 - Why we need to stop relying on government leaders. And start taking... See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

556 - How 30-years of Passion Turns into a Business with Bill Glaser

The macro formula for building a business with meaning looks like this: real relationships + belief + combining experiences + fixing a problem + adaptability + (I could keep going). But these are just words. Bill Glaser, founder of Outstanding Foods and my new favorite vegan snack (pigless pork rinds) has stories. He'll tell us how convinced a handful of strategic investors to say "yes" all at once, partnered with Snoop Dogg, found a hole in the market and turned it into an opportunity & more. 552 - The One Factor that Will Decide The 2020 Election with Phillip Stutts

I'm not political. But I'm interested in studying human behavior, history, marketing, what drives decision making, the power of money, perception, persuasion... that's what an election is. It's a soup. So I brought Phillip Stutts back on the show to dissect what's going to define the 2020 election. He's worked on 3 winning presidential campaigns, several governor races, senate races, AND he's also worked on losing campaigns. Which is important. Because that's how you learn your field and get better. --- I get a lot of emails from people asking how to make extra money. Or how to make a meaningful impact in life. Or both. So I want to tell you where to go to learn how to tap into what you love the most and turn it into a profitable income stream. Go find out from my friends Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi. They have a course that I'm forcing my daughters to take. It's called "Knowledge Business Blueprint." And it's exactly that... a step-by-step blueprint that will teach you exactly how to turn your knowledge into a business. All the details are at jameskbb.com. I write about all my podcasts! 551 - How To Escape The Pain of Inner Conflict with Kamal Ravikant

Kamal went to Nepal to live with monks. But most people can't do this. So I had him come on to teach me what they taught him. I recorded this episode BEFORE Kamal's trip, though. So we can compare. Before and after. Here's the before. Later, we'll hear how the monks taught Kamal how to feel less anxious. And escape the mental pain that comes from our daily inner conflicts. So many of you listen to learn how to make extra money. Or make a meaningful impact. Or both. So I want to tell you where to go to learn how to tap into what you love the most and turn it into a profitable income stream. Go find out from my friends Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi. I love having Bishop T.D. Jakes on the podcast. This is his third time on the show. And each time, he teaches me something new about turning pain into promise. So what does that mean? It means you're not melting into the pain of life. Instead, you're aware that you're not alone. And that other people could use your help if you pull yourself out of that. And lend them a hand. That's what true entrepreneurship is. And it starts by realizing that you can help people. 536 - How to Captivate Someone on a Gut Level: Renowned "Fight Club" Author Chuck Palahniuk Releases The Best Book on Writing I've Ever Read (And I've Read Them All)

Chuck Palahniuk is the author of Fight Club... a cult classic. And one of my favorite books. I felt so lucky getting to watch him breakdown storytelling. Because he does it in a way that goes beneath the surface. He takes you into what it means to be human. He makes you feel seen and like your life, as messy as it is, makes sense. Now he has a new book called, "Consider This: Moments in My Writing Life after Which Everything Was Different." Which not only has all the best writing advice I've ever seen, it also has a list of recommended books in the back. Chuck and I read through the list. He asked me, "Have you read this one?" And said the title. I said, "No." He said, "I'm so jealous. It's like you're about to have sex for the first time." I can't wait. I write about all my podcasts! 535 - "There's More to Life Than This.": Run-D.M.C.'s Iconic Rapper, Joseph 'Rev' Simmons & Wife Justine Simmons on "Old School Love," How to Do It & Why it Makes a Happier Love Life

Joseph 'Rev' Simmons is Run D.M.C.'s iconic rapper. He just wrote a book with this wife Justine Simmons called "Old School Love: And Why it Works." I like this interview because they're relationship is on full display here. You see they argue and work through it. You hear them banter and talk over each other the way real couples do. And then you see how caring they are for each other. So you'll get the advice and the examples all at once. And in real-time. 532 - How to Swap Planning for Permission. And Go After What You Actually Want in Life: I Tell Sean Kim on His Podcast "Growth Minds"

There's a lot I want to accomplish in life. And I bet there's a lot you want to accomplish, too. So what's stopping us? Usually, in my own life, I can boil it down to one thing. It's not focus. It's not having some super-specific morning routine. Or 8 hours of sleep (although that's important)... I accomplish things when I give myself permission to accomplish things. So what does that mean? It means I start doing and stop thinking about what it would look like to do something. So in this episode, you'll hear Sean Kim, host of "Growth Minds" podcast interview me about how to swap planning for permission and go for what you actually want in life. “If You’re Still Trying to Be Rational Now, You’re Crazy:” Comedian Tim Dillon on Being Informed vs. Being Ignorant

Being informed is getting harder and harder. Everyone has an agenda. Some help you. Some get you to stay tuned it. Others get you to question. I want to question. Because that's we're growth is. So I brought Tim Dillon on the show. He's a stand-up comedian. Which means he does MORE than just comedy. It means he looks at the world with a different lens. He looks for the absurd. And points it out. So we can all see the hypocrisy in life, in history and in our own heads. Learning conspiracies and comedy can be entertainment. Or it can be a learning ground for questioning, discernment and curiosity. I choose the ladder. Here's my interview with Tim Dillon. I write about all my podcasts! "Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It:" Best-selling Author Kamal Ravikant on How to Rebuild Yourself from Scratch

I've been waiting for this moment. For seven years. Because 7 years ago my good friend Kamal Ravikant SELF-published a book. He uploaded it to Amazon. And sold half a million copies. This was without a publisher. Or a marketing team. Or any advance money. He just did it on his own. And it was hugely successful. He was able to use this money to pay for his rent in San Fransisco and basically all of his living for years. The book is called, "Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends on It." And now he's rewriting the book. And expanding on it. Because he got a lot of questions about the mechanics of loving yourself. People understood from the first copy why it was valuable. But they hoped for more guidance on how to do it themselves. So that's what this podcast is about. It's how to love yourself like your life depended on it. Plus we also talk about the benefits of self-publishing, bypassing the gatekeepers, being creative, being reflective and more. So here's the show and if you like it, please let us know. I read all the comments and tweets. And use them to make better and better shows in the future. Thanks -James I write about all my podcasts! My breakdown of the Presidential candidates and their narratives!

What are strong narratives and what are weak narratives? I sat down with comedian Brian Scott McFadden and we broke down the narratives of all of the presidential candidates to discover what we can learn from each of them and how we might form strong narratives for ourselves. I also wrote an article about it: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/democratic-disaster-last-night-how-candidates-can-james-altucher/?trackingId=cOH9XPfBQVGug6qlU1GHTQ%3D%3D I write about all my podcasts! How to Change The Course of Your Life: Psychotherapist, Amy Morin Shares Proven Strategies to Train Yourself to be Mentally Strong

Amy asked a big question. She said, "Ten years from now when I look back at this decade of my life, am I going to be impressed with how I spent it?" She asks a lot of big questions. Because she's a psychotherapist and the author of the international bestseller, "13 Things Mentally Strong People Don't Do." She's a regular on this show. Because we're friends. But also because I always learn from her. This time we talked about giving yourself permission to quit things that aren't right for you anymore, becoming mentally strong, learning how to use that muscle, and a lot of other things that promote healthy behavior and choosing yourself.
