Ep 165Episode 165: Emma Gee - Former BYU Runner - LGBTQ Athlete

Our college years are filled with stress enough as it is. You have homework, deadlines, exams, etc. If you are an athlete, you have even more stress to go along with it as you have to add your training hours and GPA requirements to the mix. Now, imagine you were living with a "secret" that you hadn't told anyone. A secret about who you "truly were." Emma Gee, a former BYU Runner, became the first openly LGBTQ athlete at Brigham Young University when she came out just a few years ago. Today she shares her story of sports and courage. We hear what it was like in her position and what it was like before and after coming out. BYU is indeed a private university, owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and like many private schools, has an honor code they uphold. This is another topic of discussion for Emma and myself as I ask her about why she continued to go to school at BYU, knowing it was a private university with those guidelines set in place that didn't necessarily go in line with her lifestyle. It's always great to hear new perspectives in the sports world, and I hope you enjoy our interview! We look forward to reading Emma's book when it is completed! ___________________________________ As the host of the show, I truly appreciate all of your support! Ep 163Episode 163: Tamir Goodman - The Jewish Jordan

In the Jewish religion, the Sabbath is observed from sundown Friday until Saturday evening. It's something that has been observed for thousands of years. For Tamir Goodman, this has been part of his life and he wasn't going to allow anything to change his faith and the way in which he practiced his faith. Even if it meant adjusting his basketball schedule around. During his high school days, he climbed up the rankings to being a top-25 player in the country, and he had a decision to make. He originally committed to Maryland, and ultimately made a big-time decision highly influenced by his faith and Sabbath Day observance, to change his commitment and play at Towson. His journey is super unique and inspiring. It's a story of a young man, who knew what he believed in and stood for what he believed in, in a world where this is very difficult to do. Listen to our conversation today and learn from the man known as the Jewish Jordan, Tamir Goodman. He still was able to play the game he loved and although the journey may have been "different" than what people thought it would be, it's the exact journey that God had destined for him. Ep 161Episode 161: Paul Kingsbury - IdahoSports.com

The Gametime Guru Podcast is presented by 208 Printing! ____________________________________________ Back in 2010, I got introduction into the sports media world, when I was given the opportunity to do some Play-by-Play broadcasting with a company here in Idaho, for a local high school of ours. That company was IdahoSports.com and I'm forever grateful for the chance to learn the craft with them during that football season. Today, I get to speak to the man who gave me that chance originally! The man who runs IdahoSports.com, Paul Kingsbury. For YEARS he's been providing sports content to Idaho sports fans (mainly high school sports) by giving them a platform to have written content as well as game broadcasts. He travels week in and week out to make sure he is covering the games for the schools who want them there! And today, we get to hear a lot about his journey! We also get to hear about some fun memories he's had (like where he was broadcasting games from, since it's not always in the comfort of a press-box believe it or not), and where his favorite school is for fans and such! He's truly built this thing and he's had to adapt along the way, which makes Idahosports.com such a great source of information for sports fans in Idaho. Listen in and enjoy the discussion!! ____________________________________________ For all entrepreneurs who want to take their businesses to the next level, you MUST check this 30-Day Challenge that is literally ONLY $100!! Ep 160Episode 160: David Mckinzie (D-Mac) - Former BSU Wide Receiver

The Gametime Guru Podcast is presented by 208 Printing! ____________________________________________ For all entrepreneurs who want to take their businesses to the next level, you MUST check this 30-Day Challenge that is literally ONLY $100!! It's called the One Funnel Away Challenge and it's important to check this out NOW!! ____________________________________________ David Mckinzie, who is known as D-Mac, came to Boise State as a preferred walk-on as a Wide Receiver. Coming from Texas and after having a solid high school career, he was excited to come to a winning program like the Broncos. What's awesome about his story is, although his college career may not have been exactly what he had envisioned when originally coming to play football, he took advantage of a lot of opportunities that were presented to him, and he took those skillsets he acquired to his "post-college" phase of his life! D-Mac was fighting for a spot to play alongside some of the very best wide receivers to go through Boise State. He learned from some of the best at the position throughout his four and a half years, and today we get to hear what it was like being in his position. It's a perfect interview for athletes who are fighting for playing time and for those looking to see what they can learn from these types of experiences. D-Mac is the true example of being a team player, putting his best work in everyday without any guarantees, but then also leveraging his network for his post-college career! There's a reason he's crushing it as an entrepreneur these days and is doing big things to help in a lot of areas. He gets to give back at Boise State by helping with the overall in-game experience for fans at the football games (something I've experienced personally). It's important to listen and learn from someone like D-Mac, as he's been there and knows the steps it takes to get there. So pay attention! ____________________________________________ **Don't forget to leave me a 5-Star Review on iTunes** Follow me on Social Media: Instagram Twitter Facebook

He has been led by many amazing mentors in his life, and has had a lot of great experience including a Junior College National Championship at the College of Southern Idaho in 2011 as an Assistant Coach on that staff. Ep 144Episode 144: Derek Wieting - Sports & Education

There are many advantages to participating in college athletics. Obviously you get to compete against others at a high level, and for some, they move onto the next level in their sport after school is complete. For others, they have to find what's next in life as they transition out of sports and into the "real world." Derek Wieting joins the show today to talk about his journey. From the early days playing sports, to becoming the Defensive Player of the Year in High School and getting an offer to play football at the University of Idaho. While at U of I, Derek utilized football to not only help him on the field, but outside as well. He built his network in college and utilized the education that football had presented him with. For athletes going on to play college sports, listen to Derek and learn from him as he teaches many important principles about what you should be doing while you are playing sports. You can definitely utilize the educational side of the scholarship just as much as you can utilize the "sports" side of it. Ep 143Episode 143: Kody Olinger - FST Specialist

There is so much emphasis in power, and explosion when you hear about the "training" aspect of sports. So many coaches from a young age want to see how much weight you can lift and the focus is so often set in on that piece of training, and we happen to neglect the other important aspects of it. Recovery, stretching, mobility, etc. These are all super important, yet often overlooked, aspects of training. This is how you truly take your body to the next level in your training. For this reason, we are bringing on a Facial Stretch Therapy Specialist (FST Specialist), Kody Olinger, to share his knowledge with the rest of us. Kody has a history of competing as an athlete and has a passion for helping others! He's worked with many athletes (including Drew Brees) and he's here to help you all understand the importance of what he does. What I love about Kody's approach is his focus on what some would call the "non-traditional" things. (Breathing being one of them). But what I encourage you all to do is to put aside what you have been taught and listen to this with an open mind. I guarantee you'll come out of it better when you implement what Kody teaches. I also want you do to me a favor and follow Kody on all of his platforms. Ep 141Episode 141: Boone Bartlome - Perseverance and Determination

From a young age, Boone was an incredible athlete! Anything he did for sports, came naturally for him. He grew up being elite at whatever sport he played and he thoroughly enjoyed it! From Youth Baseball to Optimist Football, to Rodeo later on in his teens, he just loved to compete at a high level. After having given football a break while he focused on other sports, in 2013, Boone made a football comeback while he was attending Kuna High School. After a promising season, the team reached the State Playoffs. In their State Playoff Game, while blocking as a wide receiver, Boone took a fall and collided with a teammate's knee, breaking his neck and leaving him paralyzed. A devastating injury on what some would call a "freak accident." Today, Boone talks about the experience and he talks about how he continues to overcome the obstacles that have come his way since then. It's a true story of inspiration, and motivation. This interview will give you perspective on life. Ep 140Episode 140: Trevor Moawad - Mental Conditioning

E

Sports are just as much mental as they are physical. There's a lot one must do to actually train their mind, especially when some of the concepts may seem foreign to them. Like, "Neutral Thinking" for example. This is what Trevor Moawad specializes in. He teaches the power and skill of "neutral thinking." He teaches athletes and trains them on the power of it all. It may seem "different" to the average person, but it's not all that crazy. In fact, you may find yourself doing exactly what I did after reading his book (It Takes What It Takes), taking notes and implementing what I was being taught. In our interview today, we discuss Trevor's book in more detail and he provides us with some of his awesome knowledge based on the experience that he had in his life while working for some of the best, most well known and most successful programs in College Football. Ep 131Episode 131: Sports Matter - GTG Continues Forward

From all the way when I was a young child until now, at 31 years old, I have ALWAYS found comfort in sports. I remember, the days (really the whole last month) leading up to my church mission, I was SO NERVOUS I couldn't sleep. I had a fear of the unknown. Nobody before me in my immediate family had served a mission and I didn't know what to expect. I wouldn't sleep in my room, I'd have to sleep on the couch. You know why? Because it allowed me to turn on ESPN and have Sports Center playing in the background so I could sleep through the night. I found comfort in hearing the same replays OVER and OVER again throughout the evening. Sports brought me comfort. It was "more than a game" to me. Sports were, and continue to be, a medication of sorts for me. Like a good friend once said, "they matter because they don't matter." I know the sports world is in chaos right now, but I'm going to tell you something, the fact that the NBA used its platform to take a major step (albeit an unpopular one in the eyes of some), showed me once again, that Sports are "more than a game." Going back to what I said, I was called to serve. And my passion is sports. That is EXACTLY why I began my sports podcast three years ago. I wanted to share that passion with the world. Which is EXACTLY why I've made the decision to continue to produce content while I can. With the hope that even if it's just once a week, someone can tune into MY show and get away from the worries of the world. They can tune into MY show and hear from motivational individuals as they share their stories with the rest of us! That is why I will continue to produce content and keep my podcast running! I believe it can help the world believe it or not, and even if it's a small impact, at least I'm doing something. I want to provide that same comfort to others through sports discussions and interviews, that ESPN brought to me throughout my whole life. Ep 130Episode 130: Diamyn Hall - Baseball Mental Skills Coach

In baseball, it's important you train mentally as much as you train physically. Especially when it comes to the skill of "hitting." A player who trains themselves mentally, to be prepared for various situations before they even happen, typically will have more success on the field. Ep 127Episode 127: What Kobe Meant to Me

I grew up DESPISING Kobe and the Lakers organization. For years I would constantly say terrible things and just find ways to hate on the man, simply because he was better than my team! The Jazz couldn't seem to get past him and the Lakers and I think it had a lot to do with my frustrations! As I grew older, I gained a HUGE respect for the man as I began to have real life situations that helped me see things through a different lens. My hope is this message today will help someone, to appreciate greatness and not take these people like Kobe for granted. And to help us see the greatness, and try and implement their teachings!
