Ep 144Episode 144: Derek Wieting - Sports & Education

There are many advantages to participating in college athletics. Obviously you get to compete against others at a high level, and for some, they move onto the next level in their sport after school is complete. For others, they have to find what's next in life as they transition out of sports and into the "real world." Derek Wieting joins the show today to talk about his journey. From the early days playing sports, to becoming the Defensive Player of the Year in High School and getting an offer to play football at the University of Idaho. While at U of I, Derek utilized football to not only help him on the field, but outside as well. He built his network in college and utilized the education that football had presented him with. For athletes going on to play college sports, listen to Derek and learn from him as he teaches many important principles about what you should be doing while you are playing sports. You can definitely utilize the educational side of the scholarship just as much as you can utilize the "sports" side of it. Ep 143Episode 143: Kody Olinger - FST Specialist

There is so much emphasis in power, and explosion when you hear about the "training" aspect of sports. So many coaches from a young age want to see how much weight you can lift and the focus is so often set in on that piece of training, and we happen to neglect the other important aspects of it. Recovery, stretching, mobility, etc. These are all super important, yet often overlooked, aspects of training. This is how you truly take your body to the next level in your training. For this reason, we are bringing on a Facial Stretch Therapy Specialist (FST Specialist), Kody Olinger, to share his knowledge with the rest of us. Kody has a history of competing as an athlete and has a passion for helping others! He's worked with many athletes (including Drew Brees) and he's here to help you all understand the importance of what he does. What I love about Kody's approach is his focus on what some would call the "non-traditional" things. (Breathing being one of them). But what I encourage you all to do is to put aside what you have been taught and listen to this with an open mind. I guarantee you'll come out of it better when you implement what Kody teaches. I also want you do to me a favor and follow Kody on all of his platforms. Ep 141Episode 141: Boone Bartlome - Perseverance and Determination

From a young age, Boone was an incredible athlete! Anything he did for sports, came naturally for him. He grew up being elite at whatever sport he played and he thoroughly enjoyed it! From Youth Baseball to Optimist Football, to Rodeo later on in his teens, he just loved to compete at a high level. After having given football a break while he focused on other sports, in 2013, Boone made a football comeback while he was attending Kuna High School. After a promising season, the team reached the State Playoffs. In their State Playoff Game, while blocking as a wide receiver, Boone took a fall and collided with a teammate's knee, breaking his neck and leaving him paralyzed. A devastating injury on what some would call a "freak accident." Today, Boone talks about the experience and he talks about how he continues to overcome the obstacles that have come his way since then. It's a true story of inspiration, and motivation. This interview will give you perspective on life. Through Boone's words, you'll find yourself becoming more and more motivated to give it everything you've got because you truly never know when you may not have that chance again. Ep 140Episode 140: Trevor Moawad - Mental Conditioning

E

Sports are just as much mental as they are physical. There's a lot one must do to actually train their mind, especially when some of the concepts may seem foreign to them. Like, "Neutral Thinking" for example. This is what Trevor Moawad specializes in. He teaches the power and skill of "neutral thinking." He teaches athletes and trains them on the power of it all. It may seem "different" to the average person, but it's not all that crazy. In fact, you may find yourself doing exactly what I did after reading his book (It Takes What It Takes), taking notes and implementing what I was being taught. In our interview today, we discuss Trevor's book in more detail and he provides us with some of his awesome knowledge based on the experience that he had in his life while working for some of the best, most well known and most successful programs in College Football. Ep 134Episode 134: Keep Your Body Right

What we must realize, is the actual dedication it takes to make sure your body is in the right condition to compete at the highest level. IF the NBA comes back and they want to finish the season in the summer, just how long will it take for the players to come back fully healthy? How much time do we need? Do we need them to have 4-8 weeks to get their bodies right? Should we risk potential injuries for these players? ___________________________________________________________ ______________________________________ Get your Audible Free Trial: audibletrial.com/thegametimeguru bit.ly/GametimeGuruPodcast Ever wanted to know about the One Funnel Away Challenge and getting your business online?! Ep 133Episode 133: Multi-Sport Athletes - with Bryon Brotzman

The great debate. Should you play more than one sport? How does it benefit you and what may it be doing to hinder your development? There's MANY sides to this discussion. So today, I'm bringing on a good friend of mine, Bryon Brotzman, to speak about it from his perspective! Bryon grew up with two older brothers (Kyle, one of his older brothers joined my show back on Episode 55) and they all played multiple sports. Soccer, Baseball, Basketball (and then even Football). We talk injuries. Does it take a toll on your body? Age, weight room, etc. All the little things that go into playing multiple sports and when it might be a good idea to focus in on one sport. Also, does the evolution of Club Sports make an impact on whether an athlete can actually compete in multiple sports? We touch base on that too! You don't want to miss this episode of the show! It's going to be a good one! ______________________________________ Get your Audible Free Trial: audibletrial.com/thegametimeguru Where to Find Me: Apple Podcasts - https://apple.co/2syRPkw Spotify - http://spoti.fi/2oVVZ36 Stitcher - http://bit.ly/2sR9m90 TuneIn - http://bit.ly/2Fx5UlU

Ep 131Episode 131: Sports Matter - GTG Continues Forward

From all the way when I was a young child until now, at 31 years old, I have ALWAYS found comfort in sports. I remember, the days (really the whole last month) leading up to my church mission, I was SO NERVOUS I couldn't sleep. I had a fear of the unknown. Nobody before me in my immediate family had served a mission and I didn't know what to expect. I wouldn't sleep in my room, I'd have to sleep on the couch. You know why? Because it allowed me to turn on ESPN and have Sports Center playing in the background so I could sleep through the night. I found comfort in hearing the same replays OVER and OVER again throughout the evening. Sports brought me comfort. It was "more than a game" to me. Sports were, and continue to be, a medication of sorts for me. Like a good friend once said, "they matter because they don't matter." I know the sports world is in chaos right now, but I'm going to tell you something, the fact that the NBA used its platform to take a major step (albeit an unpopular one in the eyes of some), showed me once again, that Sports are "more than a game." Going back to what I said, I was called to serve. And my passion is sports. That is EXACTLY why I began my sports podcast three years ago. I wanted to share that passion with the world. Which is EXACTLY why I've made the decision to continue to produce content while I can. With the hope that even if it's just once a week, someone can tune into MY show and get away from the worries of the world. They can tune into MY show and hear from motivational individuals as they share their stories with the rest of us! That is why I will continue to produce content and keep my podcast running! I believe it can help the world believe it or not, and even if it's a small impact, at least I'm doing something. I want to provide that same comfort to others through sports discussions and interviews, that ESPN brought to me throughout my whole life. Bonus Episode: Coach Jason Brown - Last Chance U

bonus

It's crazy how people can make assumptions on how an individual is, based on a TV Series. I was super intrigued by Coach Jason Brown's coaching style when the Last Chance U series went to Independence Community College for Season 3, but I knew there was more to him than what the show portrayed. Today Coach Brown joins me for an awesome discussion about his life, journey and what he intends on doing moving forward. You'll also hear about his book "Hate Me Now, Love Me Later" which you can find on Amazon. (Go BUY it!) You'll find out a lot about the man from this 25 minute discussion and you'll quickly realize how genuine of an individual he is. I'm very excited about Season 4 of the show, but I would encourage all of the Last Chance U fans and football fans in general to always be aware of how media portrays individuals. Bonus Episode - Coach Zach Smith

I've been a fan of Ohio State Football since I was in the 2nd Grade. So last season, when Urban Meyer was put in a difficult position due to a "report" from a "journalist" named Brett McMurphy, in regards to an Assistant Coach on the staff, I was worried. What concerned me the most though was the fact that so many people happened to run with the report that was given, before any of the full facts had been presented, and for some reason, I had it in the back of my mind, that this Assistant Coach wasn't this "bad guy" which McMurphy had tried to make him out to be. So I began following Zach Smith and his journey upon his release from the Ohio State Football program. Today I had the marvelous opportunity to speak with him and get his take on the whole situation from last year and what his thoughts are on journalists and the importance of reporting news accurately. We'll also get some insight on his new podcast, the Menace 2 Society Podcast which is incredible for ANY College Football Fan. Take some time out of your schedule to listen to this episode today! Most of us who go through sports, have a "love/hate" relationship with the officials. They are truly there to do their job and help support the integrity of the game, but often times they get a lot of heat for the calls they either make or don't make (just ask the New Orleans Saints). It's tough to be an official, especially at the highest level. Today we speak to a former MLB Umpire about his journey being on the field and making calls. We'll discuss the stressful situations they are in, whether or not they should have to report to the media, the ejections that he's made, best ballparks he's been to, etc. Toby Basner floated through the minors and majors for six years as an umpire and has quite the story to share with the rest of us.
