Ep 301Jake Plummer - Former NFL Quarterback and Arizona State Legend
Jake Plummer has a major name here in the treasure valley of Idaho, as he's a Capital High School legend! Growing up in this area, we often heard his name thrown around, which is why this is such an awesome interview for me, years later, on this platform! On today's episode, Jake will chat with us about his upbringing and how important being 'active' was for him in regards to all the sports he competed in. He was ALWAYS outside doing something, which is a lost art in today's world it appears. We'll learn of his favorite experiences at Capital High School and then what it was like going to Arizona State where Jake became a legend. What were his favorite memories as the Sundevils Quarterback? What about the Nebraska game that really took that team on an upward trajectory and sort of (in a sense) de-railed Nebraska as a whole haha. What was the biggest transition to the college level? Of course we'll talk in-depth about his professional career! What was it like playing the game as a professional. What was the grind like? Favorite memories? We have a discussion on the playbook as well and how to handle different styles of coaching while being a team player. One of the best parts of sports for me, is seeing how sports work in business as well. Which is why it's also so great that Jake is here to chat about Umbo, his mushroom company. Don't be worried, he's going to explain the difference between functional mushrooms and psychedelics, but you're going to see WHY he's helping promote this style of living as he's taken a LOT of hits during his day. He'll share with us the science and reasoning behind supplementing with them and how they've helped him out. Please make sure to give them a look by going to the website: https://getumbo.com/ If you'd like 10% off your first order, use Code: GTG10 at checkout! __________________ Calling ALL entrepreneurs!! Ep 300Quintin Mikell - Former NFL and Boise State Defensive Back
This is EPISODE 300 of The Gametime Guru Podcast!! I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for supporting the show throughout the past six years. I am so grateful for everyone who listens to the show and shares my content with others! And with that, I'm beyond blessed and honored to bring on Quintin Mikell to the show! Quintin was a major part of the growth of Boise State Football in the early 2000's. When Boise State upset Fresno State, to really put the broncos on the map, Quintin was a big part of that specific team! He learned a lot during his college days that he also was able to take to his professional days. What a lot of people don't know however, is how Quintin made his mark in the NFL! And today we get to hear the stories! What happened on Draft Night? How did Quintin standout in training camps when he was surrounded by others who were at the highest level? What are some of the best memories of the NFL? Who were his greatest teammates? Which receivers caused the most problems for him and his defensive backs? What happened with the Terrell Owens situation in Philly when he was sent home from practice? (Behind the scenes information of how that day started haha) So much awesome information coming your way to celebrate episode 300 of the podcast! We will also chat about the new gig as a coach at Rocky Mountain High School (out of Meridian, ID) and what to expect moving forward there! If you'd like to follow Quintin, please check these links out below: Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/philadelphia-eagles-free-agency-flashbacks-q-a/id1468542488?i=1000513399414 Twitter: https://twitter.com/QMikell27 Again, I appreciate all of you for the support of the show! Ep 298Brandon Turner - Professional Skateboarder!!
Brandon Turner was truly a star from a young age, however most people don't realize what the man went through in his life to be able to continue on in a sport that demands so much from you and your body! Brandon joins the show today to speak about the life he's had as a skater and where it all started (surprisingly it was actually in Japan when he was there at a young age). We'll talk about the differences in Skating in Japan as compared to that of the United States. We'll have a discussion about his substance abuse battles that he's gone through and what he's doing now to be a positive influence on those around him and be a mentor to the youth who are coming up in the sport. Ep 297Christian Craig - Professional Supercross and Behind the Scenes of Racing!
For the first time in history, we are diving into the world of Supercross and learning the ins and outs of the racing world, with one of the best to do it, Christian Craig. We're going to discuss the adversity that Christian has faced throughout his career, and how he's been able to bounce back from that. Even since this interview was conducted, Christian suffered a pretty extensive injury which required surgery to fix it, so once again, he's battling some adversity in his career with this sport. It's a VERY dangerous sport to compete in! We'll chat about the intricacies of the sport, the differences in the types of bikes he's racing now compared to before. We'll chat about the preparation it takes to get ready for his races and how he stays dialed in and everything. This is a phenomenal opportunity to learn more about the sport itself, as well as understand what it's like to be a racer. It's very taxing. You have to find ways to keep yourself locked in while you're traveling with everyone throughout the whole season, and you have to have fun with it at the same time. Christian and his wife have a vlog they created and you can follow that on YouTube by going to this link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-9Fe0AceEQ (this is just one of the videos explaining the very recent injury that Christian sustained, which may not be suitable for all viewers as it is very graphic) Please give them a follow on the channel and support them! Ep 296Eugene Campbell III - Professional Basketball Overseas
Eugene Campbell III didn't take the 'traditional' route to the professional game, but his route was unique and required a TON of dedication and hard work. In fact, Eugene didn't really truly care about his basketball career until the very end of his high school season, his SENIOR YEAR!! From going to a JUCO (Junior College), to fighting his way into the roster and getting minutes, to going D3 and having to work his way the last two years to getting as much playing time as he could, to being a graduate assistant and learning the importance of putting work in the gym and film room, to now playing overseas, Eugene knows a lot about the sport. His story is inspiring and my hope is that the athletes who listen, will be able to learn a thing or two. Just because your route or journey may look different than someone else's, doesn't mean you can't make it happen. So keep going and working on your craft, and you can achieve whatever you want! If you'd like to learn more about Eugene's non-profit, you can check out: https://www.walkamilenourshoes.org/ From the website: "Walk A Mile N Our Shoes is a 501c3 non-profit organization officially founded in April 2021 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Ep 295Brent Pourciau - CEO Top Velocity
If you heard my interview with Bob Wheatley on the podcast, you'll remember him talking about his coach that helped him get back to full strength. That coach he referenced was none other than our guest on today's podcast. Brent Pourciau, is the founder and CEO of Top Velocity. Brent specializes in helping baseball players recover from injuries, even more specifically, shoulder injuries. They hold camps and train these athletes consistently with their proven methods on how the body works. Today, we'll get to hear from Brent about his own baseball career and how an injury to his shoulder at the age of 18 impacted his career and how it's impacted what he does now as a trainer! You're going to love this interview to hear of the ups and downs of an athlete, as well as understand how he has turned his passion into a full on business helping other athletes! Ep 294Coach David Thorpe - The Godfather of Player Development
The Godfather of Player Development is what he's known for, but Coach David Thorpe has done much more than that. Outside of the 30+ years of experience coaching and developing professional basketball players, Coach Thorpe is also an author (Basketball is Jazz: Stories and Lessons from a Basketball Lifer), a Partner and Analyst for TrueHoop , as well as a featured speaker at multiple executive conferences. Ep 293Mike Gibson - Former NFL Lineman Battled Addiction and Made Massive Recovery
**Note the sound is terrible on my end as the connection was bad, but we've fixed that for all future episodes moving forward. Mike's sound is fantastic though and should be good to go** From having everything, to losing it all, to now making it back and sharing his knowledge with the rest of us. Mike Gibson is a retired NFL lineman, and now the Director of Community Outreach at The Mental Health Center of San Diego and Healthy Life Recovery. (mhcsandiego.com ) In our interview, Mike will be chatting with us regarding his football career. The ups and downs. The Junior College to D1 route he took. What he learned through that process, and what the transitions were like from JUCO to D1, and then we will also learn of the transition to the NFL where Mike played for 6 years. In Mike's third year in the NFL, he suffered an injury that required a big recovery. This is when Mike's story took a turn as he became addicted to pain killers. This addiction continued to get worse and worse, as his body became chemically dependent on some of these substances and he found himself in a downward spiral that continued not only through the remainder of his NFL career, but after he retired from the game as well. This is a story of addiction, of perserverance, of recovery, and redemption! It also goes to show that it can truly happen to anyone at any moment, so it's wise to become familiar with the situation and with Mike's story as it has the potential to help thousands of listeners out there! Share this episode with any athlete you know, and anyone you feel could benefit! Thank you for tuning in! Ep 285Ricky Williams - Heisman Trophy, NFL, and Business
Ricky Williams was always one of my all-time favorite runningbacks in the NFL. He had the swag before the 'swag was cool' and he was the one we all wanted to play with on Madden! What intrigued me about Ricky, was his desire to be true to himself and his own beliefs, even if that meant being different than others. I first learned this during the 30 for 30 Documentary on ESPN, and then learned more about this during our interview! Listen in today and learn from Ricky Williams about his football career, the life lessons he took from his journey, as well as what he's doing now in his business world. Make sure to checkout his business: Highsman I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I did, as we get to learn from one of the all-time greats. Ep 282Kiara Feibusch - Women's Lacrosse at Pitt and Overcoming the Battles of Depression
What an incredible opportunity we have today to hear from Division 1 Lacrosse Player, from the University of Pittsburgh, Kiara Feibusch. We'll tap into the sports side of this conversation where Kiara helps us with understanding what the lacrosse world is truly like. We'll chat about club/travel team lacrosse compared to that of normal high school lacrosse. She'll give us all some advice on the recruiting process of lacrosse so we know what goes on behind the scenes and what other younger athletes should be doing in order to get in front of the coaches they want to play for. We'll get to hear of her favorite memories and advice on mastering the basics so you have a solid foundation of your sport. Today's conversation is even more powerful because we will tap into the topic of mental health as it's a huge part of Kiara's story. I first was able to see her story on The Hidden Opponent where I learned of her silent struggle with depression and how she overcame that. Today on the show, she'll open up about that struggle so our audience can learn more about it. Our hope with this piece of the conversation, is for young athletes and even those around them such as parents, coaches, etc. can have an understanding of what to look for in those battling with their mental health, as well as what resources are availbale (or should be available) for them to overcome those battles. You're absolutely going to love this interview! All I ask for in return, is that to show your support of Kiara and the show, is to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts! Calling ALL entrepreneurs!! If you are a business owner, and you are interested in utilzing online sales, then you MUST USE this tool to help you with it! ClickFunnels will allow you to have an enterprise account to do everything you need for your business! (Including: Websites, funnel building, emails, products, etc) Make sure to get a solid deal by going HERE for your offer! We've talked on the show about the sport of American Football, and how it's odd that with it being such a major sport in the United States, there historically hasn't been a lot of opportunities to play at the professional level outside of the NFL. Until the last few years however when other organizations such as the AAF, XFL, and even FCF, as well as now the newly formed USFL, have come into play to help give football players a chance to play high level football at the next level. Ep 260Episode 260: Liz Robakiewicz - Mental Performance Coach for RJ Performance Group
As a soccer player, she was not new to the game and the mental demands of playing a sport at a high level. Liz Robakiewicz was always really good at 'teaching herself' how to train her mind for the mental aspect of the game, but it wasn't until later on when she realized there was actually evidence to back up what she was already doing. So she continued her education in this field and now is helping athletes with their mental performance as a Mental Performance Coach at RJ Performance Group. In our interview, we'll discuss the different types of work she does with her clients and just how important this can be for athletes. If you are a parent who has a child who competes, have you ever wondered "how can I get them to be more confident or have the mental strength to do what I know they can do?" or thought something along the lines of "They have the skillset, but their mindset is not matching it." If that's ever been you, then you need to listen to this one today and then immediately get in contact with Liz. She's trained in this field and wants to help! She's now opened an office in Boise, Idaho and can help athletes from all over the state so please get in contact with her. Follow RJ Performance Group on Instagram: @rjperformancegroup You can visit their website by going here: rjpg.net The direct link to book a consult with Liz herself is right HERE: https://rjpg.net/book-liz Book a session today and take advantage of the massive benefits of what Liz and her team can do for you as an athlete! __________________ If you want to get healthy and enjoy a solid tasting protein bar (that doesn't taste like "astronaut food" (as my mother would say) then you need to get on with BUILT! Ep 258Episode 258: Jocelyn Osmond - Miss Utah's Outstanding Teen 2022
What on earth, would make "pageants" part of the Gametime Guru Podcast? I'll tell you what... I had the chance to be a judge for the Miss Idaho Pageant in June (2022) and it opened my eyes to this whole world, and I wanted to provide the listeners with an opportunity to learn about this space too. There are MANY amazing skillsets these young women acquire from the pageant space, and I want you to be able to learn about that today. So that's why I'm actually bringing on Jocelyn Osmond (who is Miss Utah's Outstanding Teen) whom I met during the Miss Idaho Pageant (she was there supporting the other girls) In this interview you're going to get to know Jocelyn as a person and realize just how impactful the pageant experience has been for her. The skillsets of public speaking, performing under pressure, helping out in the community, having a social impact initiative and actually being able to articulate WHY you are so passionate about that subject, connecting with others, and much more! These are all topics we'll discuss today on the show! Don't miss out on the answer she gives regarding her last name. It's obvious the Osmond name holds some strong value in it, but Jocelyn is out to create her OWN legacy!! What's great is Jocelyn is actually a talk show host for Teen Talk out of KSL in Salt Lake City! She's been able to connect with so many awesome people on this show and have authentic conversations with them. I'd highly encourage you to check this show out on KSL Podcasts. We'll have a chat about her experience with that platform as well today. I'd also highly encourage you to follow her on social media. Jocelyn is prepping for Nationals which will be held at the beginning of August 2022 and you can follow her journey on her social platforms. Instagram: @jocelyn_osmond and Teen Talk on Instagram is: @theteentalkshow I can't wait to see the awesome things Jocelyn accomplishes in her life and right now this is just the beginning. Ep 257Episode 257: Cliff Panezich - Mastermind Behind 'Operation Stolen Base'
Cliff Panezich was like many young athletes. One who had aspirations to play at a high level, and he enjoyed competing. Through High School he wasn't the 'most talented' but he continued to put in the work that was required. He found himself competing through some minor-league baseball systems later in life where he was enjoying himself. It was somewhere during this time (as you'll hear in our interview) when Cliff began a side hustle (business) selling autographed memorabilia. It was all good and everything, until he decided to take things up a notch, and began doing things in an illegal way (selling forged autographed memorabilia). The story goes much deeper than this, and I'd encourage you to listen to this today. Find out the details of Cliff's life that lead up to the illegal activity. Hear from his perspective, what it took to scale this business to what it became, before things came crashing down in a MAJOR way! Find out the lessons he learned from that experience. Cliff found himself with a 6-year prison sentence for what he did, and after doing his time, he's now a free man, making a name for himself. I was able to come across Cliff's story through his TikTok channel which I'd encourage all of you to follow!! He's doing some major things right now and has a lot of things coming down the pipeline to make the most of this life, now that he's spent the last six years behind bars! This is such an intriguing story. One that's very eye-opening, and I'd encourage all of you to listen and learn from the experiences he shares. There are some great lessons for young athletes, as well as some amazing lessons to be learned for the entrepreneurs of the world. And hey, if you're into sports memorabilia, you may want to listen up, because there's plenty to learn in this world as well in regards to that.
