The last time I spoke with Colby Blaine, was back in 2020, and we were able to hear about what he was building over at College of Idaho for their men's basketball program. Since that time SO MUCH has happened, which is exactly why I needed to circle back with the man to hear the updates. The Yotes basketball program won the national championship in 2023 and 2025 with some big runs into the Elite 8 and the Fab 4 of the NAIA National Tournament in the past few years. He's also finished with an NABC NAIA Coach of the Year award in 2023 and 2025. According to Wikipedia "The NABC Coach of the Year is an award given annually by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) to recognize the top head coach in men's college basketball across the four largest college athletic associations in the United States." To say Coach Blaine has achieved success at this program, would be a massive understatement. And it's due in large part to his amazing leadership qualities! Nick Fazekas was a University of Nevada (Reno) Legend!! There is a reason why his number is retired at the University! What some (like myself) may not have known however, is just how unbelievable his story was AFTER college! Nick played college basketball during a time where I watched a LOT of basketball and I remembered him playing at Nevada. That said, I never realized what actually happened when he left college. Today in this interview however, I learned SO MUCH that I never would have realized had he not joined me for the discussion. Jacob Hobson has quite the story on how he became a Bullpen Catcher for the Kansas City Royals. And that's why I love doing this podcast, as you have an opportunity to find out the 'story behind the story' if you will. From a call from his dad to a staff member at Cal State Fullerton, to now helping at the Arizona facility for the Royals as he helps the pitchers who are rehabbing and getting back to playing shape, Jacob has quite the journey as a bullpen catcher. We'll get to learn about what that position even is. To be honest, before I spoke with him, I literally didn't even realize that was an actual position. I assumed other catchers just simply helped out in the bullpen but there is actually an opportunity with that particular position and it's amazing to see where it's taken him. In our episode we'll not only learn about the ins and outs of the position, but we'll hear of some of the cool experiences Jacob has had since doing this. Where he's played at, what players he's worked alongside and helped out, and much much more. Dalton Lins knows what it's like to compete at a high level. Growing up in Hawaii, Dalton fell in love with the game of football through his father. He competed at a very high level in his high school days and ended up as a preferred walk-on at Boise State, where his college days began. I met Jake through my sports media platforms when he was coaching high school football here locally in Idaho. Today, through this interview, I learn about his story on how he got to where he's at and what helped shape him in his journey. Through our conversation we'll learn about his business at In The Trenches Academy and what inspired this business plan. This is an incredibly insightful interview. After competing at a high level in Softball for UCLA in the early 2000s, Tara Henry took some time away from the sport before she ended up overseas to finish a Master's Program. After that time, she was re-introduced to softball and it created an entirely new surge in her career. Tara is now the GM of Softball America as well as the Head Coach for the Great Britain National Team. Gabe Tanner is a current student-athlete for Columbia High School out of Nampa, ID. He came to Idaho from Chicago when he was younger, and he has major aspirations to compete in athletics at the next level. Colorado State Women's basketball is where Annie Brady calls home. Where she once played, she's now on the coaching staff. In high school, she had aspirations to play at the next level and had different opportunities prior to finding a home at BYU in Provo, Utah. Now she is the Head Coach at Boise State for their Women's Lacrosse club! We'll chat about her journey and the ups and downs of her own recruiting cycle when she was in high school. We'll talk about playing at BYU and how that actually was different in many ways as compared to where she played high school lacrosse back east. In 2022, I had Dallin Blanchard on the podcast to speak about the sport of Disc Golf. At 6'11 and athletic, it's no surprise that basketball was the sport of choice for Greg Kite. The suprising part of his story is how he was able to sustain such a long professional career by staying healthy at that size as he competed with some of the best players in history.
