On June 6, 2021, a 24 year old woman and her 46 year old mother are shot to death inside the older woman’s home in Douglasville, Georgia by an intruder. The sudden and brutal double murder destroys the lives of the women’s families. The younger woman had recently moved back home following the breakdown of her marriage, and was finding her feet outside the relationship. Sadly for the grieving families involved, there will be no resolution, no closure, no retribution, no punishment, and no justice. Because the killer, who’s well known to his victims, takes his own life at the scene. On December 20, 2003, a 19 year old college student is stabbed 19 times outside an apartment complex in Garland, Texas. It’s a heartbreaking loss for the family and friends of a young woman who had such promise. The victim was an intelligent, ambitious sophomore and talented flutist who played in her university’s renowned marching band. Thankfully, her killer is apprehended at the scene and confesses not long after. But the pain and trauma continues when the attacker tries to plead insanity, despite him telling others of his plans in the weeks leading up to the murder. On October 17, 1996, a 41 year old repair shop owner and father of three is bludgeoned to death at his home in St Amant, Louisiana, by an intruder. The killer leaves a bloody baseball bat in the victims’ bathtub, but there appears to be little forensic evidence indicating who’s responsible. For detectives, without any leads or solid direct evidence, it seems a confession will be the only way to solve the case. It won’t be until over a year later, in November 1997, that law enforcement would apprehend the killer. Tragically, by this stage he’d killed another five people. In 1984, 13-year-old Allison Tinsley moves out of her abusive mother’s home in South Carolina. Like a real-life fairytale, Allison is going to live with her rich and loving father, 36-year-old Dwaine Tinsley, in Los Angeles. It's perfect, until one day Dwaine sneaks into Allison’s bedroom and molests her. From then on, for five years, Dwaine would sexually abuse Allison multiple times a week. All the while, Dwaine was the creator of Hustler magazine’s Chester the Molester comic strip, which depicts a perverted old man who tricks little girls into having sex with him. In 1989, Allison informs the police of her father’s abuse, and Dwaine is sentenced to six years in prison. But due to a technicality, his conviction is overturned after two years. On July 21, 2019, two brothers from Wisconsin aged in their twenties and thirties go missing after visiting a rural property outside Braymer, Missouri. In the following days, police learn that a 25 year old cattle farmer from the Braymer area may know something about the disappearances. He admits to driving the vehicle the brothers took to the farm, but he hasn’t seen them since. When human remains are discovered at the site 10 days after the brothers were last seen, police realize the truth behind the brothers disappearance is darker than they could have imagined. It’s not long before investigators zero in on the cattle farmer, who owes the brothers a six figure sum. On November 29, 1996, two young men in Farmington, New Mexico, are murdered and mutliated inside a downtown business known as The Eclectic. At first it seems like a robbery gone wrong, but investigators soon deduce it’s more serious. However, despite the brutal nature of the crime, law enforcement is unable to pin down a suspect, and the city is on edge. It wouldn’t be until 4 years later, in December 2000, that investigators would apprehend the killers. Tragically, by this stage, one of the men had killed at least two more people, both from the Navajo nation, and was facing two additional trials. On August 18, 2020, a 44 year old mother of two goes missing from Crawfordsville, Indiana, after a heated argument with her husband. On September 1st, 2003, 17-year-old Justine Vanderschoot sat down with her parents to eat dinner. Her boyfriend, 18-year-old Danny Bezemer, joined them. Recently, Justine and Danny had discussed getting married later that year, and Justine’s parents supported them despite their young age. After dinner, Danny went home and Justine went to bed. The next day, Justine was gone. Immediately, the Vanderschoot family organized search parties, passed out fliers, and organized a candlelight vigil to find their beloved daughter. Sixteen days after Justine vanished, Justine’s boyfriend, Daniel, and his roommate, 21-year-old Brandon Fernandez, led police investigators to her body’s location. After tapping Justine’s phone, Daniel had learned she was speaking to another man. In a fit of jealous rage, Daniel and his roommate Brandon strangled Justine, buried her alive, and killed her. On August 3, 2021, 27-year-old Austin Lanz boards a bus to Arlington, Virginia. He exits onto a bus station platform that is mere steps away from the US military headquarters known as the Pentagon. On December 17, 1998, a 39 year old prominent clinical geneticist at the Baylor College of Medicine in West University Place, Texas, is raped, stabbed, and bludgeoned to death at her home by an intruder. When investigators find the victim’s Jeep Cherokee in San Antonio, a stranger’s fingerprints are on the steering column. In July of 1999, Racine County, WI Law Enforcement was called to the scene of a female victim who had been left in a cornfield. Based on her injuries, she'd suffered years of abuse and had been killed within 24 hours of being placed in the field. In the decades that followed, law enforcement agencies used every resource at their disposal in an effort to not only identify the victim, but also hone in on her killer.
