Bryn Edwards
This episode reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where they pitch their idea of a show about nothing. A TV show pitching their TV show to the network is brilliant. This is #TheExpertPodcast on what you need to do on podcasting. It really is a fun chat with a person who has been doing long form podcasts for close to four years. Just the fundamentals of getting a podcast right from the beginning is so important for anyone that is looking to start this very powerful medium. Bryn Edwards is a podcasting expert with his own long form podcast WA Real and runs a project called the Legacy Project. Long form isn’t for everyone, but it is a difference in the market that is saturated with short form. The disciplines that you will get from Bryn here are GOLD and you will get the very key tips and advice on making the experience a special one. One that will benefit you, the person being interviewed and just as important the audience that you are looking to engage. There is close to 500 podcasts between the three people on this special edition of #TheExpertsPodcast. The issues and the challenges faced are what you have or likely have faced. The solutions and ideas here are here for you to work with. You will benefit from the art of podcasting here. Lots of brilliant advice from an outright expert in this space. Such a fun podcast on podcasting. If you are looking for advice, support or even a podcasting studio reach out to us at Media Stable.

Emily White
Content is QUEEN This is such a fun and informative chat and look behind the scenes that is talk radio and media from a decision make that has a finger on the pulse. It delivers so much more to the listener than that though. The responsibility to inform, to get the right story, to be able to deal with the stories of the day and keep her audience informed is the goal of this person. This Content Manager really delivers and understands what is going on from both a media and audience perspective. Emily White is the Content Manager of Radio 6PR part of the Nine Network and you will hear the energy, the ideas, the very focus that she has for one of the biggest transformations that has happened in her media market in over a decade. The move to the Nine family and a massive transformation to the line-up of the Perth radio landscape has been very much the responsibility of this media professional. “The thing I love about my job is that we all look out for each other, we are a big family.” A reminder of how important radio as a media has been in a pandemic year. The mention of 3AW in Melbourne during this pandemic has seen incredibly high numbers of audience attracted to it when the state is in crisis. Trust and dependence on the right information is critical. Getting the behind the scenes look at not just production of the radio station but the very mechanics of bringing it altogether is a real eyeopener. We even get Emily to tell us who her favourite personality within the office. This is a great way to finish off the year with someone who is across all aspects of the power that is radio. A medium that many of our members of Media Stable enjoy and get to be a part of. The idea that media is cold, ruthless, and uncaring is very quickly dismissed when you get to hear the very human and real voice of those behind it. Emily White is just another great example of the human side of media. Understand what drives, inspires, and motivates the people in media makes for you the storyteller a better communicator with the very platforms you are looking to engage.

Rachael Ferguson
As 2020 draws to a close some people will be limping to the line and others will look back on a very successful year. This expert was about to launch her products globally when the pandemic hit, so like any good business leader had to take a step back and re calibrate the company approach. Rachael Ferguson is a Podiatrist and the CEO of Synxbody - a business with products designed to be additional support for your feet. A couple of Rachael's notable accolades in recent times has been a Channel 10 Shark Tank winner (with multiple sharks making bids). More recently a Business News 40 under 40 winner along with the top gong First Amongst Equals to round out this unusual year. “Pause, stop and reflect… and then pivot” Rachael says, and this is almost the message of the year. This outstanding entrepreneur shares her story and how the media has played a role in building her business. The feet affect the whole body and it all starts there. Every health issue potentially starts from your ability to having healthy feet. The reason we like this is that while the focus is quite niche the application of the narrative is quite broad. This is such an important message to any expert that is looking to be successful in telling their story. Radio and podcasting are Rachael's preferred media. She is a self-described chatterbox who loves the longer form of communication and you will hear this in the podcast. A natural communicator with a passion for her industry which she admits isn’t the sexiest of topics, but she makes it more than interesting. The health and business stories that Rachael has are broad and deep. 2021 is going to be big year for Rachael, and she has already got her foot in the door with media.

Saskia Loosjes
This media professional has a bit of a reputation for being tough and direct, which some would say you need to be working in media. As the Executive Producer for a one-hour local news program, this podcast will uncover what motivates her and what she is looking for in a story. The “need to know what is happening” is what drives this media professional… just listen out for the police chase story and you’ll understand! Saskia Loosjes is the Executive Producer for the Channel Nine Perth 5PM news (recently changed from 4PM). It is locally presented news with local experts focusing on what is happening in Perth. The media cycle for Saskia is continually changing so her ability to identify a story, develop it and maybe even need to drop it if something bigger comes up is all part of life for an EP. “It’s not a good industry to work in if you want to know what happens next. It’s like a merry-go-round once you get on – you are on but never in the same seat.” Saskia shares some great advice to experts and those looking to engage media. Firstly, consume the media that you are looking to be a part of. Other quick tips include: be available; know your topic; speak like you are speaking to someone at the pub and be entertaining. This is great intel that we also thoroughly endorse. In fact these tips are also often expressed by other media at our #MeetTheMedia events. When we have a media representative as a guest on the Experts Podcast, we always get valuable information – they take us behind the scenes and do away with the smoke and mirrors. Once the cloak comes down the very human element behind the cameras and microphones comes out. Saskia is a working mum, a newshound, a caring and empathetic journalist who is always looking for news stories that will inform, educate, and entertain her audience. “It’s not a good industry to work in if you want to know what happens next. Bronwyn Williams
There is bias everywhere and sometimes we know it, and, in most cases, it will be an unconscious that exists in our decision making. It isn’t really something that you think about in our own decision making or those of others until you stop for a moment. This was the moment that Lanna and I were fascinated with the chat about our own bias and where it comes from. The places where bias takes place has no boundaries including the family unit, business, socially, and culturally. Bronwyn Williams is a ‘bias and diversity’ expert, and it will have you looking deep into yourself but a chance to understand how others work and operate. The very first step you need to take is to recognise that you might be bias. Being aware that you are bias is the first step for you to be able to deal with any bias that you might have. Learning to understand yourself is one of the best journeys you can make says Bronwyn. Bias is a human condition. Some of the unconscious ‘hurtful’ decisions we make particularly when it is centered around people’s weight, age, culture, gender, race, sexual preferences is just a sample of the areas that we are able to see evidence of it everywhere. We dive deep into the effect that this has on people and the way it is used to keep people down. This is a fascinating chat that Lanna and Nic start to investigate their own situations where bias has a place. It does come across as a negative condition but it’s not necessarily so. Understanding your own bias is not designed to make better decisions but maybe more healthy decisions. When it comes to the media though we know there is bias and there always has been. It’s when you start to be more conscious of this that you can appreciate and understand all forms of media.

#ExpertsPodcast Stop and Prop
Its that time again where we get to review and look back at some the experts and media we have had on the Experts Podcast. Featured on this episode of Stop and Prop: Michael Genovese Tamara Cook Sarah James Lezly D'Limi Trent Fleskens John Solvander Tim Gossage Mike Drysdale Carmen Braidwood Julian Pace Leonie McKeon Gavin Bain Karalee Katsambanis Jeff Ash Kate Stevenson Simon Creek and Murray Thornhill Simply all outstanding talent in their own right. Enjoy the chance to stop for a moment and look back and maybe find that podcast you might have been looking for. Best, Lanna and Nic

Simon Creek and Murray Thornhill
The media loves talking to lawyers and the legal fraternity because they are confident experts who always deliver professionally. Sometimes doing media can be a challenge for lawyers, especially where where complex legal matters are discussed. The platform is heavily monitored by their colleagues, peers and a regulator, but if you can get it right there is an amazing opportunity for legal experts to do very well in media, aiding brand recognition in a highly competitive space. “Lawyers are great technicians not necessarily great communicators” Murray Thornhill Simon Creek and Murray Thornhill are the owners of a full-service Perth law firm, HHG Legal Group and have been at the forefront of media in Perth over the last five years and as a result are punching well above their weight in exposure particularly when they are competing with national and global law practices. You will hear that they have a very clear mission when it comes to working with the media. Being a legal expert in the media provides the a unique opportunity to deliver your values, build your brand and stand out from the others law firms out there. Lanna and Nic identify that this type of expert in the professional services sector can become more human with a media profile. The time and energy HHG Legal puts into their media engagements is part of a committed communications strategy that incorporates advertising and marketing. Media is not easy to do, but both Simon and Murray have taken the time to get to know media and formed lasting relationships ensuring they are asked back again and again. When the media starts to call you up for legal commentary and opinion you know you have made it as an expert of your industry.

Kate Stevenson
When you are a top rating breakfast radio program, the success is put down to a perfect combination of a some very important elements; outstanding talent presenting the program, a very clear agenda, professional subject guidelines, passion, energy ... and an excellent producer! Kate Stevenson is the Executive Producer of Australia’s most popular talk-back program 3AW Breakfast with Ross Stevenson and Russell Howcroft. She is also my former colleague, friend, and an absolute legend. Kate is a fourteen-year 3AW veteran who has spent eleven of those years on the Breakfast program. Kate is also a broadcaster and television presenter in her own right with a focus on food and travel. Kate is a regular on our #MeetTheMedia scene where experts and media get a chance to engage, meet and share content. Kate shares her experiences participating in this event and it's interesting to hear that she is just as fascinated with the other media on the day as she is with the experts that attend. In this episode Kate shares some great advice and guidance for any expert looking to engage media. If you aspire to demonstrate your authority and expertise there is a golden rule that Kate reminds us of; Take some time to consume the very media you are looking to be a part of. Tune in early, understand the presenters and get a feel for what they like and dislike. Do this, and your appearance makes for a better interview and a better result for the expert. It's no secret that Nic and Kate know each other well and it is this type of relationship that Media Stable has formed with many key media people. Building relationships and connections is critical as we all tend work with better with those we know and trust.

Jeff Ash
Keeping it in the family The most powerful business group in Australia isn’t the major internationals or big corporates. It’s not the ASX listed companies that works for shareholders, it’s those that have put their own dollars, assets, blood, sweat and tears into their businesses. The true engine of the Australian economy is the family business. Family Business Australia (FBA) is the group that represents, supports, and networks the businesses that employ such a large proportion of the Australian population. It is an organisation that provides the leadership and education to businesses that have a very different makeup to that of a non-family business. There are different challenges and advantages that a family business experiences with topics like secession planning and governance high on the agenda. Jeff Ash is the WA State Chairman and National Board member of Family Business Australia and a family business owner himself. Jeff shares some wonderful insights into the world of family businesses and what drives, motivates and keeps them focussed. Jeff is a sought-out commentator on business and can give a very accurate view and maybe one that is more measured on the real issues faced by businesses. Education and Connection is what Jeff talks about as being the major drawcard for any family business to be involved with FBA. With the country pushing itself out of this pandemic, the government looking to wind back the economic stimulus and getting back on track we need some very strong leadership. You will be hearing a lot more from Jeff and FBA in the media as we fight our way out of 2020.

Karalee Katsambanis
Cyclone Karalee You often come across experts that have more than one feather in their cap, who cannot be pigeonholed for one subject matter or topic as they have a broad knowledge base across many sectors and areas of interest. Our guest in this podcast has made her mark on media over the last twenty-five years in her own unique style. She is never short of an opinion or a comment and she is a bit like a cyclone when she comes in and knocks you over with her energetic views. Karalee Katsambanis has played just about every role in media and is now an author of a book launched earlier this year ‘Step Parenting with Purpose’. Karalee is a media commentator and columnist across radio, tv and print as well as a media trainer. Karalee is motivated, energised and focused and a great example of what it takes to be an engaging expert in the media. Karalee does a regular radio segment on 6PR Afternoons with Simon Beaumont called ‘Old School’. This segment allows Karalee's true self to shine in her observations and personal views - some of which will hit a note with some, and challenge others. This is such an important message for all experts looking to engage media - be true to yourself with your own views and opinions and have the courage to deliver them. At Media Stable we really like experts who have an opinion. You cannot really be an expert without one. Karalee is an inspiring woman who is not short of an opinion, and she has heaps of great content. I really like her message of listening and being kind. These are two areas that all of us could be doing better.

Leonie McKeon
All things China! Without doubt the COVID-19 pandemic is the topic which has dominated our thoughts in 2020, but there is something brewing that we will be thinking about a lot more going forward and that is our relationship with China. We are already seeing rumblings in some Australian industries that the Chinese appear to be sanctioning restrictions on dealing with us. Why are they doing this? Are they punishing us? Has politics taken over? It is a mystery to many but not to all. Our expert this week is Chinese negotiation expert Leonie McKeon who is an author and speaker who accidently found herself immersed in all things China. She worked as an English teacher in Taiwan without any formal academic training, taking the upside-down approach to understanding the people, the culture, and the country. There are thirty-six Chinese strategies you need to know and understand if you are looking to do business with China; inspired by ‘The Art of War’ by Sun Tzu which is 2500 years old and is as current today for the Chinese. You need to understand the art of negotiation when dealing with the Chinese. Leonie describes herself as a 'bridge to understanding Chinese culture'. She takes neither side but offers the opportunity to help others understand the thinking, implications, and the workings of relationships and negotiations between China and Australia. Her very easy to read books are an incredible insight into the art of negotiation with our most important trading partner. You can find Leonie here: https://www.leoniemckeon.com/

Gavin Bain
Getting a chance to talk to one of the key creatives in the marketing and communications space is a big honour and we have been following the Chief Meerkat now for a long time. Gavin Bain is now the Managing Partner in Perth of Wunderman Thompson a global agency network and he walks through the background of takeover deal coming together, the driver behind the success of his former brand Meerkats and where marketing and communications is going. One of the words you will hear from Gavin a lot is Purpose. A lot of people will say words but very few will live by them like Gavin does. It is quite inspirational for all individual and business brands to take on ‘Purpose’ as part of the very foundation that you build on. As Gavin says it’s a decision-making tool. “Purpose and purpose led thinking with regards to organisations leads to higher quality engagement with your staff which leads to greater innovation for your products and services that allows you amplify and market more effectively.” Some of the campaigns we talked about included the 96FM ‘Real Music’ advertising campaign and #Smashastrawb and its attempt to revitalise the industry after it was attacked by a terrorist attack. These were outstanding success stories and now as Gavin says he has access to so much opportunity through the new ownership for both the WA and national market. The change in the agency landscape is happening but Gavin was a trailblazer with change making over fourteen years ago. He discovered Conscious Capitalism when businesses are only getting their head around it now. If you are looking to communicate and market then following the lead of Gavin Bain is a very good step forward.Getting a chance to talk to a key creative in the marketing and communications space is a big honour and we have been following the Chief Meerkat now for a long time. The change in the Agency landscape is happening but Gavin was a trailblazer with change-making over 14 years ago. He discovered Conscious Capitalism well ahead of the rest, with some businesses only now are starting to get their head around it. If you are looking to communicate and market, following Gavin Bain's lead is a very good step forward.

Julian Pace
Happiness and mental health have never been more important and there are certainly more challenges in front of us as we navigate our way out of the COVID-19 pandemic. There are many programs and people who are working in this space, but you will immediately feel a connection with our podcast guest as he has dedicated his life to help others get on top of wellbeing and mental health. Julian Pace is the founder of Happiness Co - you might've seen him on traditional and social media. Julian is an accomplished speaker, business owner, entrepreneur, and trainer who shares some golden one-line takeaways and little gifts of wisdom with listeners in this podcast. As an expert in his field Julian represents the very best in storytelling and knows exactly what he is doing and where he is going, and he's not bad at analogy's either! There are some important messages for all experts tuning in, to take some lead from his ability to dissect a question and make it easy for the audience to understand. He has an ability to deliver carefully crafted observations and responses that has the listener stepping in for more. You'll notice that his tone and energy in this podcast are very appealing, which is exactly what media are looking for. “Be brave regardless of outcome” is the key tip from Julian. We loved this as it is the very essence of every successful expert or person of influence. Happiness Co is playing an important role today with their messages, services and real tools to combat mental illness. There is no doubt you will be hearing more from Julian Pace.

Carmen Braidwood
The focus on #TheExpertPodcast today is a bit of a jill-of-all-trades in the world of media. Currently a radio broadcaster, television presenter, media trainer and MC. A very public figure but a person who hasn’t always been comfortable in the public eye. Her bravery and desire to confront her fears to advance is a major driver and a lesson for all experts looking to make an impact in media. Carmen Braidwood has been a host-a-murder MC, the Constable Care Bear, a newsreader, breakfast presenter on a popular FM station and now the co-host of a weekend brunch program on 6PR. Peppered in amongst her impressive media experience, Carmen is also a travel show presenter, an MC, and a media trainer and mentor. Many of us could learn from her ‘confidence on camera’ program. While Carmen might have been a little hesitant venturing down the media training path, we can’t help but feel she is well- equipped to do this. Too often media trainers are veterans of a media where Carmen is an active member of it. In the podcast she gives us some quality tips - one in particular that resonates the most is “that it is never about you, it’s ALL about audience”. Something that is sometimes forgotten by both media and experts. Carmen talks about the people along her journey who have been a support, an influence and those that have her back. You won’t walk away from this podcast without knowing a great deal more about what drives and inspires Carmen Braidwood.

Mike Drysdale
Telling a great story! Have you found yourself watching the advertisements of late and they may seem more interesting than the show you are watching? There's a good chance you are watching branded entertainment - a movement many brands are taking, as opposed to the standard 30 second commercial which interrupts your viewing or listening pleasure. Mike Drysdale is a communications and branded entertainment specialist from Perth based agency Dear Storyteller. He heads a specialist team that is changing the way brands are communicating. The connection, emotion, reach and message are done with more strategy and planning, with the result having an enormous impact on consumers who are now seeking out commercials instead of switching them off. A great example of branded entertainment is the American Super Bowl - the most-watched sporting fixture across the globe. The money, time and the storytelling that goes into the advertisements are a highlight. The good thing about branded entertainment is that you don't have to have a Super Bowl budget to produce this type of result, but it does take time and effort to make it work. Mike is experienced at podcasting, and we discussed the positives and negatives behind the growth and expansion of this platform. Doing it differently is key, but having a strategy is vital. The commitment is large, but the returns can be wonderful if you are prepared to stick with it. Mike gave #TheExpertsPodcast a thumbs up, and we think he is pretty good too.

Tim Gossage
There aren’t too many figures in media that are as big as Tim Gossage and I mean that both figuratively and in his size. He is extremely tall and another fact I discovered the day we recorded #TheExpertsPodcast is that he doesn’t like wearing socks. He is a man so ahead of his time that he was doing this decades before millennials and hipsters who apparently have a dislike for socks when wearing a suit or pants. He is a man well ahead of his time. Tim finished up a thirty-year relationship with Channel 10 on Friday the 11th of September 2020. He spent ten years of that on the road as a journalist and twenty of them behind the desk presenting the sports news. It was emotional, it was hard for Tim to really express how he was feeling as it was still very raw when recorded the podcast just four days since finishing up. As much as he handled the sign off gracefully both Lanna and I could see the pain and hurt he was feeling. That all said, he has a little catch cry now that has become a hashtag #NotRetiring. It would be hard to see this man ever retiring as those that know him refer to his enthusiasm and passion to that of an ‘Energiser bunny’. Lanna and I dived deep into his interaction with audience and his use of social media. A man that has been well known to throw the hook and line out there which always catches a few poor souls that are not used to his sense of humour. We talked who have been his favourites, his love of the auction and where to from here? He will not be running for Lord Mayor of Perth. A key takeaway I took from this podcast is that we too often are living in the now with our content and expertise when dealing with media. There is media out there like Tim that have ridden the highs and lows for thirty years. It is more than just an engagement; it is a life’s work. While Tim will come across a little disenchanted with media currently you can see that this chapter might have closed but there is still a lot more to this novel that is ‘Tim Gossage’

John Solvander
We take a slightly different direction with the podcast this week by not interviewing an expert or a media professional but instead possibly Australia’s leading media expert in John Solvander. New Zealand will likely try to claim him like they try to claim pavlova, Russell Crowe and Split Enz but that accent still squirreled away is a dead giveaway. John Solvander is the Director of Media Engagement, an owner of Media Stable and what Nic Hayes refers to as the engine behind the success of the business. In fact his exact words to many of the experts as they are onboarding with Media Stable “If Media Stable was an orchestra then John would be the conductor”. We kind of had to just throw this on John to do the podcast and not let him think about it too much. Many media that have worked with John will know its never about him. It’s about the story and the audience. He has worked in media for 25 years, and only about 90 minutes of that would've been 'on-air'. He is a behind-the-scenes professional, offering support, guidance and mentoring to our experts. He has crossed paths with a lot of media personnel along the journey. While it might seem a little self-indulgent from a Media Stable’s perspective to put John Solvander up to chat on The Experts Podcast I can assure you the true value is yours. What this man doesn’t know about media isn’t worth knowing and his commitment to his craft is exemplary. John is one of the greatest assets of Media Stable we just thought it was worth your while to know a little about his back story. Enjoy!

Trent Fleskens
An expert on a mission This week our featured guest on The Experts Podcast is a pretty serious fellow. From the minute this property and real estate expert came onto the scene a few years ago he had a very clear mission and a message that he wanted to get out; Educating the public on the realities and traps in the property and home markets for investors and first homeowners. When you hear the backstory of Trent's self-made success you'll understand where the fire comes from and just how passionate he is on making a difference and leaving a legacy. Trent Fleskens is the Managing Director of Strategic Property Group. A full-service property advisory firm that doesn't fall for the hype and bells and whistles of the larger property development and sales firms but instead always has the client in mind. This is his mission and he has had some amazing success in sharing his views across TV, radio, print and online. Trent is a perfectionist, and this is evident not only in his own podcast but all his media engagements. You can tell he enjoyed the relaxed, educational, and sometimes entertaining elements of his chat on The Experts Podcast. When you always try to deliver your best you can also be your own worst critic, and this is something that Trent has certainly started to relax. His appetite to deliver well has helped him to keep improving in his media engagements. Like any industry there are pitfalls and hurdles that will trip you up if you don't do your research, due diligence and homework. When you invest in an expert like Trent, your savings are not just thousands but tens and hundreds of thousands. A responsibility that Trent takes very seriously.

Lezly D'Limi
Who wants a job? I am not sure there'll be too many events in our lifetime where we have completely decimated an economy and workforce like this pandemic has done. The world has certainly changed, and we are in need of strong leaders with vision and actions that will make a difference. This workforce and recruitment expert might just be the one to help us do this and she is certainly making her mark in the media. Lezly D’Limi is the Founding Director of workforce mobilisation employment firm Tailored Resources and is very new to media. Her first media engagement was during the first lockdown of COVID-19. She did a radio interview followed by a piece to camera for the Channel 9 News - all done with precision, grace, and a great attitude. Lezly has positioned herself as one of the top operators in her space, which has made her a magnet for media to engage. The media approach is simple. Lezly has positive news to share about job vacancies and media wants to share that with their audience. In a world of uncertainty, we seek the advice and vision of those that work in this place to help us navigate through these uncertain times. Lezly gives clear cut advice and direction in her media engagements. Only last week she was featured in an Opinion Editorial for the West Australian and did eight radio interviews following that. Expert advice is one thing, but the experience and delivery is just as important. Lezly understands a job is more that the hours you work. It is a position, a provider, a standing in the community, a sense of pride and purpose. Jobs and employment are key to a successful society.

Sara James
Expert with style The experts Podcast has the pleasure of interviewing experts and media from all over the country understanding what drives them and why they do what they do. When this particular expert in focus walked through our doors, we get a sense that there is a sense humility and humbleness. The driver behind Sara doing media is more centered around her ‘Old fashioned values and customer relationships’ than to jump in front of the camera. Sara James is the founder of Perth Style Co and co-founder of State of Home. The real estate and styling industry has seen some massive overhauls and is by nature a volatile industry which has many factors playing a role in its ups and downs. You need as much help as you can to make that important sale or add to decision making process of your most important investment. Sara makes this work for you. There is a lot of psychology, emotion and human behaviour involved in the sale of a house, which needs to be acknowledged. Sara delivers her expertise in a calm and measured way. Quite soothing and reassuring for those who are involved in the process of both selling and buying. This is also a very important attribute to any expert that is looking to engage media. There are so many hidden messages in this podcast - from tips to sell your house to tips to be a recognised expert in your field. Invest in yourself, invest in your style, invest in your brand. Declutter the doorway, which is a metaphor for experts - don’t make it difficult for the media to contact you! Oh we love a good metaphor and the media loves a humble expert.

Tamara Cook
An EVENT-full podcast When the pandemic hit the impact was enormous and immediate for event organisers and planners. Overnight the event industry was decimated and only now are they starting to see some life come back into their sector. The focus of this episode of #TheExpertsPodcast is WA’s (and one of Australia’s) leading event planners, Tamara Cook. Tamara is the managing director of Known Associates and when I describe her as one of Australia’s best, it is not said lightly. Anyone who’s attended a Known Associates organised event, will attest to their attention to detail. She and her team are incredibly passionate and dedicated to delivering the very best event for their client. Tamara Cook is a very proud black woman, who is married to an indigenous man, former AFL player Troy Cook and they have two gorgeous children. When the Black Lives Matter movement started to get momentum here in Australia, the media was keen to cover it, but few were brave enough to speak up. Tamara wrote a compelling real account of her life in an Opinion-Editorial that was centered around racism, bullying and her true feelings growing up and working in this country. It ended up as a front page story plus a stand-alone news piece along with the feature as an Opinion piece. Nic describes it as “the bravest and most important piece of media he has been involved with in his twenty-five years of media”. The lesson we can take from listening to this podcast is about having the courage to speak up and tell your story – it’s very easy to make excuses and create hurdles for yourself but with some determination, guidance and bravery, you can make a difference. Tamara will be mortified if you think this one story was the focus of the podcast because it wasn’t. There was plenty of content gold around networking, event management and planning and what the future looks like for getting that special event together.

Michael Genovese
One of the great aspects of #MeetTheMedia is that attendees get to actually meet the media, not just for the program they represent but as individuals and this journalist is a real character. The Channel Nine Today Show correspondent in Perth, Nine News journalist and 6PR Weekend Brunch Presenter, Michael Genovese is one of the hardest working media people I know. In this podcast, Michael talks about his start in media and the people that have inspired him along the way, to how he found himself in a job that he would probably do for free if he weren’t being paid for it. Working in the media is more than a job to Michael. He loves what he is doing and he now has a very different take on media since his first inquiry into becoming a journalist to what he has achieved to date in both TV and radio. Some of the key takeaways for experts include some very smart tips on how to practically connect and engage with a journalist. Michael tells us about how he still gets nervous before a show which will be music to the ears for some experts. It's always a bit daunting to have a camera and/or a microphone thrust upon you. It was inspiring having Michael on the podcast - his joy and passion for the work he does really shines through. He named a few people who have played an important role in developing his media career, including Tim Gossage, Jo McManus, Sean Menegola and his wife Gerry De Masi. Get to know your media so you will be better prepared to deliver your story and more likely to be more successful.

Nic and Lanna Stop and Prop
In another stop and prop moment we look back at the last 14 episodes and the learnings that both Lanna and Nic captured from the experts and the media. This is the podcast to listen to get a feel for the takeaways and the highlights from each of those interviewed. This is personally such a fun look back at the work that has been done to see what stood out for each of the presenters. It’s also a great chance to capture some of the key messages and if a podcast episode needs to be re-visited. The experts that we took the journey with this season included Michelle Maynard, Tony Eades, Adam Voigt, Nicolle Jenkins, Amy Jacobson, Nikki Milne, Marny Lishman, Dr Joe Kosterich, Kimm Seeling Smith, Jason Featherby, Lisanne Iriks and Demelza Leonard. The media that we chatted to included 3AW’s Luca Gonano and Nine’s Weekend Today Erin Bouda. These episodes particularly are wonderful as they are regulars on the #MeetTheMedia circuit and deliver such valuable advice and content for all budding experts and commentators.

Demelza Leonard
Demelza Leonard of DL Social is a social media, pop culture and music expert. Having been a rock journalist and training at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in journalism, Demelza has a significant pedigree when it comes to working with the media. When you understand the disciplines involved you have a significant advantage over others. One of the key messages that The Experts Podcast wants to reinforce is the way experts remain true to themselves and be as authentic as they can be. Don’t try to be someone else, do what you love and enjoy and be consistent with your brand. This is something that you will hear right through the podcast and a message that we thoroughly endorse. In this podcast Demelza tells us about an interview she did with American rapper Ice Cube while he was touring in Australia. The ability to adapt, think fast on your feet and not giving up is a strong message for all experts to take on when looking to engage media. There is so much to take from the attitude and actions of Demelza in this interview that you can apply to your position in media. Music has an incredible appeal and ability to connect at the best of times but during a pandemic it's a place where you can go that has some relief and a sense of normalcy, even if it's just for a moment. It's quite exciting to hear Demelza comment on the changes, the shifts, and the adaptions that some of the biggest names in music have had to make during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Erin Bouda
Erin is one of our favourite media people. Her personality just clicked with Media Stable's in-person annual event #MeetTheMedia and we have been in regular contact for years. Erin Bouda is the Supervising Producer for Channel 9's Weekend TODAY. Erin knows her stuff when it comes to understanding the show, the hosts, the style and the type of stories they are interested in. The key to understanding media is to take the time to understand the show and the audience you are pitching to. Weekend National TV is very different to the weekday hustle of Breakfast, Morning and Afternoon TV. There is more time that can be applied to a story on the weekend. The tips and advice Erin goes through is critical for any expert looking to influence or engage. The gold nuggets were rolling out from our special guest this week and here is a short summary of it: "Know the show, know the host, know the audience. Keep in mind segments are 3-4 minutes long - keep your pitch short. Be available and say YES. Why is the story right for now? Newsjacking and put your hand up to say you have an expertise" Both experienced and novice experts need to take on this advice. We are big fans of Erin and her work, as you will be able to tell when you listen to the podcast. However, you will also sense that the relationship is very mutual. Early in the podcast Erin says 'the media needs the expert as much as the expert needs the media'. This statement is so true and when you can develop a mutually beneficial relationship for both parties it is a win win.

Luca Gonano
Luca Gonano is the Executive Producer for 3AW Drive with Tom Elliot - Melbourne’s leading talk-back station. Luca has a strong personal connection with his host and their audience - their success is a team effort, so when you’re pitching to Luca you are effectively pitching directly to Tom. The Experts Podcast series loves getting behind the scenes to understand the machinations of how media comes together. A very important driver behind both The Experts Podcast and #MeetTheMedia is to help experts to understand what happens in newsrooms and program meetings, which will make you a better communicator with the media. In this podcast Luca is very generous with details of his background, where he started out working at McDonalds, then started a career as a sports journalist at 3AW, followed by his role at Carlton Football Club. You can really hear how respectful he is of the opportunities he's had to work in the media landscape. Talk radio is the barometer of public opinion and this producer is very conscious of this fact. The ability to be flexible, be able to pivot and to keep the pulse of the city current are all critical for any successful program. This is evident when the entire program could be finalilsed with an hour to spare before going on air, only to throw it all out to broadcast a breaking story moments before the show starts. This is a must-listen podcast for all experienced and budding experts. Luca give some critical advice on how to connect, pitch, and present a story. Persistence is key here and you will be better communicator and expert after listening to this podcast.

Lisanne Iriks
Conflict is a good thing... A conflict resolution and negotiation expert is someone you'd imagine is quite busy during these times of COVID-19. This pandemic has certainly put people on edge - conflict is rising during these unprecedented times. There are leaders disagreeing with each other, the Prime Minister is urging landlords to assist tenants with rent relief, people were fighting over toilet paper and the courts are not operating to their usual levels - we have been in dire need of resolutions. Lisanne Iriks is a mediator, teacher and a trainer who helps others work on conflict resolution. In fact her perfect world is a place where people will learn the skills of how to work through and solve issues. When you think of mediation and conflict resolution, Family Law is the first thing that comes to mind, however there are so many other areas in need of this expertise. Bullying, corporate conflict, contract disputes and so many more. In fact, when you look at any issue in media there is always some form of conflict. News is a collection of conflict stories. Conflict is a good thing… really? Anything that has changed for the best has always started with conflict. Changes in law, changes to lifestyles, changes for good. You need to innovate, communicate, adapt, and understand the other side to get a real result. Lanna and I really enjoyed our chat with Lisanne and you will be pleased to know there was no conflict in the interview, just a lot of quality content.

Jason Featherby
More than a money man! Talk radio particularly enjoys money and finance segments that connect with their audience. There is so much information and so many changes in the finance, superannuation, savings, and investment space. People are generally good at spending money, but if we want to make more of it, we need help from the professionals. There are a lot of advisors out there but only a few that can handle the media. Jason is not only unique in his fun and jovial approach, but is determined to deliver great advice for the listener whilst making it enjoyable along the way.

Kim Seeling-Smith
The future of work is a catchy tagline particularly when it comes to media! What does it look like? What is going to happen? Where are we heading? These are fascinating conversations which will continue to drive us out of this period. Kim Seeling-Smith has a visionary approach to the future of work and is finding her niche during these times. Early on in this podcast you will hear about Kim's love of research and her ability to clearly interpret and present the data. The world’s largest work-from-home experiment has just taken place due to COVID-19, and changes in the workplace will never be the same. The challenges, hurdles, relationships, politics and the business environment have all changed. Lucky for us, we have people like Kim Seeling Smith to help guide us through. I love the passion and energy Kim brings to every media engagement. Pre and post media engagement is just as important as the engagement itself and Kim certainly understands this. Her use of social and professional platforms promoting the media that has taken place is exemplary. Kim’s knowledge and expertise shines in all her media appearances. Her content is endless and of the highest quality. I first met Kim at the 2019 Professional Speakers Australia convention, along with five other outstanding presenters. Since then Kim has made one of the biggest and most poignant impacts in media and I have loved working with her. Kim continues to be a student of media and her consistent attendance at #MeetTheMedia is also a reflection of her appetite to be a success in the media. Producer, Presenter and Audience… it’s pretty simple. This podcast is content GOLD. #BEAVAILABLE

Dr Joe Kosterich
Media loves a good doctor One of the assets that media is always looking for is a DOCTOR, a General Practitioner a really good medico. There is a lot of health professionals out there in this field and most are very good at what they do but very few are able to communicate with the media. They generally don’t want to or simply can’t work with the media due to time commitments or no appetite for it. This Doctor does make time for the media and he certainly has forged a reputation over the last twenty five years. The media loves him and you will work out through this podcast that he loves it too. Dr Joe Kosterich is a well-known and experienced media performer with regular gigs on radio and television; and he doesn’t mind rocking the boat. By rocking the boat he has interests in areas that society and even the organisation that represents his field the Australian Medical Association wouldn’t support. It is this commentary and opinion that certainly gets the media’s attention and creates very good conversations. Not only that it also makes the good doctor a very good ambassador for brands and products that might not get the media attention they deserve. Issues like vaping and medicinal cannabis are two particular topics that Joe has been quite keen on and is a medical advocate for both. Dr Joe does describes himself as a ‘contrarian’ but he delivers this with very sound arguments and has a very calm presentation. He also describes himself as ‘not everyone’s cup of tea’ but I’d be struggling to find someone that doesn’t like the way he delivers or what he has to say. The trick to all this is that along with the experience he is very disciplined with all his media engagements. He is well-read and well-researched and this is evident in almost all the media engagements he partakes in. A lot of people will put expert on their LinkedIn profile to describe themselves but very few will be able to claim it like Dr Joe.

Marny Lishman
The once slightly nervous psychologist “Don’t put me near a camera. I only want to do print.” was one of the first conversations that this expert expressed to the Media Stable team back six years ago. This self-confessed shy, nervous, and reserved professional did not want to have anything to do with TV. Now is one of the most recognised psychologists in Western Australia as a regular on Channel Nine News. Dr Marny Lishman is a Health and community Psychologist who has hammered home a media profile over radio, print, online and her original greatest fear TV. A psychologist is incredibly powerful for media as they have the content that fascinates an audience and there is no shortage of opportunities if you put your hand up. Marny certainly puts her hand up and delivers. What I think you will get from listening to Marny’s story is that you will connect with her on many levels from her initial concerns, worries and also the hurdles in front of her to be successful in media. From doing interviews in a closet, dropping kids to play in the park while Mum does a radio interview to just taking on the mountain that was her first TV interview. Marny is very real, so authentic and such a natural communicator that she does not need to try hard to help you understand what is going on. The other key takeaway that you should look out for in this podcast is the organic nature that Marny has built her reputation. From social media post, to column writer, to radio to television. There is a calmness and a sense that quality content will find a home in media and not just lay idle on a blog. That investment in herself to get her content out wider is truly paying off.

Nikki Milne
She is exclusive, elusive, flies under the radar and is completely killing it in the marketing and the PR industry. Our expert in focus is someone that intrigues and fascinates me more than most people that I have come across in recent times. Not because I had absolutely no idea who she was before her name came across my desk but because I love the way she goes about it. “Relationships and clients always first”. Nikki Milne is the founder of the Perth Collective a PR agency, founder of the newly launched Singlet which is a business accelerator and training course platform, not to mention at the same time a mum of three and a very supportive hubby. With an enormous social media following a former hairdresser to the stars and now a communications trainer and agency owner this lady works all the angles for her clients. Nikki is a business and a brand builder first and if everything falls into place then the PR element kicks in. The client gets my 15 years’ experience of running a successful business. “I am literally going to take over the business and you need to trust me that I am going to make this work” is what Nikki will say and her clients will just need to roll with this. The refreshing elements here is that it is blunt, no sugar coating required and to the point. Exclusivity has a very strong marketing appeal for many clients and Nikki enforces this with precision. When you are disciplined to only work with those that are a right fit and not just those with a bag of money then you know you are being true to your brand. The reason I might not have known about Nikki is that she specialises in creative, beauty + hair, retail, and hospitality industries. These areas have never been my strong points but be assured this is Nikki’s bread and butter. A client list that many would dream of not to mention that she takes on Australia’s Queen of PR Sweaty Betty CEO Roxy Jacenko’s clients here in Perth. If Perth had a Roxy Jacenko then Nikki Milne would be her name. There are a few pretenders out there trying to do this but not at the level or the standard that this young lady sets. Watch out for Nikki as you will be hearing more about her in the media.

Amy Jacobson
Human behavior and mindset expert Amy Jacobson from the beginning was questioning her value to media when she first launched and came along to a #MeetTheMedia. The look from media when Amy mentioned what she does was one of dismissal and the eyes glazed over. Sometimes it takes an event or a moment in time for an expertise to shine. Along came a pandemic and now everyone is listening and needs this expert. We have seen some of the best and worst of human behavior and our mindset is in need for a lift and new focus. Media adores those that can breakdown the very simplest things like behavior and educate its audience with its meaning. Emotional Intelligence carries a bit of baggage, the interpretation is not some thing that you will think it is and the big question do we have it naturally and can it be taught? Amy explains our very basic human behavior and how you can achieve emotional intelligence. You have got to want to learn and apply it says Amy and out of interest these are the same drivers that you need to apply when working with media. The dive deep into this expert is really fascinating, entertaining and highly educational. A post that Amy had done on LinkedIn was another beautiful example of how we need to communicate more effectively for our audience and that it is not about us. The quiche vs the egg and bacon pie post is the classic example of emotional intelligent communication and has been shared over 400 times. We get to talk about some of our leaders particularly the WA Premier Mark McGowan and the Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and the way they have dealt with the challenges that we have be confronted with. We have even worked out Nic is on occasions emotionally intelligent.

Nicolle Jenkins
What’s she selling? Because I am buying One of the great advantages of working with experts and commentators in the media is that very often they become your friends. This person is no exception. Nicolle Jenkins has a diverse range of expertise. The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA, a small business owner, media commentator, a mum and a very successful award winning marketer. When you ask Nicolle about why are you involved in small business and why do you get involved in media. Her response is the main reason she is successful “I do it because I love and enjoy it”. It’s this attitude that makes her stand out and you can hear it in this conversation that this woman is passionate about what she does. This is a formula for success for any business person and it surely is the best recipe for impact in the media. As a professional marketer and a campaigner Nicolle’s view of media is very interesting and what makes her a highly awarded professional in her space. This use of media in her view is that ‘radio is for making friends, TV you show the emotion and print you educate’. This is a rather simple approach but highly effective when it comes to communicating a message whether it be for her personal brand or the brand that has engaged Nicolle to promote and market. One of the projects that Nicolle worked on for The Sheep Collective is an outstanding example of a campaign that worked so beautifully with media. Right up until the campaign was released the conversation was all very one way by animal activists but the campaign turned the tide and gave a voice to those that previously didn’t. The education program was highly successful not only because it gave the other side’s version but it was factual and less emotionally charged. Good storytelling, great use of media with a very clear strategy. Some fantastic advice from Jenko when dealing with hostile social media commentary. You need to show empathy to the person that is harsh or who is angry, just understand they don’t always agree and respond in kind. Be measured and professional with any commentary and if that doesn’t work block them. It’s as simple as that.

Tony Eades
Tony Eades is a Brand Futurist who looks at how businesses and brands will be changing and operating in the not too distant future… This isn’t the guy to talk about driverless cars and the technology that we will be using in the years to come, rather he specialises in what brands need to do to service changing customer expectations and he helps to future proof brands with creative strategies and digital solutions. Tony talks about the opportunities for brands, experts and those with a responsibility to lead during a time of a pandemic. There are many strong message here for everyone and particularly as Tony is the newly appointed President of Professional Speakers Australia, an industry that has been decimated by the pandemic. Tony believes that leadership is paramount right now as we wrestle with COVID challenges on a daily basis. He also shares some brilliant nuggets of advice and tips for budding experts. Enjoy!

Adam Voigt
An educator that is one of us You might have heard me before at a #MeetTheMedia say I am not a great fan of working with academics partly because I don’t think they are great fans communicating via media to the general public. This education expert is one of my favourite not only because he delivers, he knows what media is looking for and he has that personality that you want to go and have a beer with after work. Even if he does barrack for Richmond FC. A regular on Channel 10’s The Project, the key talkback programs around the country and now an avid OP-ED writer for major newspapers around the country and particularly his home state of Victoria; Adam has certainly established himself as both a thought leader and the commentator of all things education. A former teacher, principal and now owner of an education consultancy called Real Schools Adam is recognised nationally by his peers and media alike as the GO-TO. His anecdotes, his stories, his ability to connect with the hosts of the programs. His never-ending content engine continues to turn. Always ready to have an opinion backed with evidence and facts and can get quite deep on issues that he is passionate about. His delivery to camera and a radio interview is very natural and unique. Adam has the ability to talk like both the principal, the teacher and the parent and it isn’t wrapped up in academic vernacular that neither the audience or journalist can understand. He has even a twang in his accent of ‘good bloke’ in him that even if you disagreed with what he had to say you’d really like him. It’s a good thing that he does make more sense than most when it comes to education. He is respected for his contribution by his peers but more importantly the media and its audience welcomes what he has to say as he clearly outlines the issues with commentary and solutions. An expert that I very much enjoy to watch and hear from. If you are a student of professional development in the space of media there is no greater lesson that the one given by Adam Voigt.

Michelle Maynard
Accountants have the unfortunate stereotype of being humourless and boring… Well, there is nothing boring about Accountant Michelle Maynard who is nailing it in the media on all matters of money advice and analysis. Hers is a voice and a face that you will be familiar with if you live in Perth as she regularly appears on 6PR and Nine News as their go-to expert. Michelle’s leap into media started after she attended a #MeetTheMedia event and made quite an impression on several journalists she met, including Oliver Peterson from 6PR, who had Michelle on his program that very week. She hasn’t looked back from then and is getting regular media engagements across all forms of media in WA. Michelle was not a natural media talent and has worked on her delivery and media presence, to now present as confident and poised. Her appetite to do media is huge and she will say “yes” every time, which makes her very media friendly. This episode of The Experts podcast is a special one for an one in professional services who are looking to make an impact in media. You will struggle to find a better example of dedication, persistence and quality than the one Michelle Maynard sets.

Nic And Lanna
This revised series of The Experts podcast has been met with great interest not only from the experts we interview but also the media that we have featured. This is a “stop and prop” moment where Lanna and I get a chance to look back at what we have learned, what has inspired us and what we all can do to perform better in the media. A lot of people have commented that the podcast is a good mix of education, fun, banter and discovery. That is exactly the flavour we were looking to create when Lana raised the idea of rejuvenating the podcast. We genuinely love delivering this podcast because we also learn something new each time. It does help when we have had such great talent, such as Professor Gary Martin, Samantha Jackson, Meg Coffey, Oliver Peterson, Tim Collins, Evan Broadway, Dr Katherine Iscoe, Louanne Ward, Jenna Clarke and Aaron McDonald. These people are all at the top of their game and the most inspiring theme from this series was that they themselves are continuing to learn, to improve and to master their craft. I think you are going to enjoy hearing from the next ten experts and media as they breakdown some of the elements that have helped them succeed. If there is an expert or someone from the media that you would like to hear from then please reach out to us at [email protected] and we will make that happen. Last but not least; thank you to the listeners of The Experts podcast. We really do value the time you have invested in us and again thank you for the wonderful feedback. Best, Nic and Lanna

Aaron McDonald
The media loves talking to lawyers and even more so in these times of Covid-19 when we’re all becoming familiar with Latin terms like ‘force majeure’. It is a time of uncertainty and lawyers and the legal sector are trusted allies when businesses are going through significant disruption. Aaron McDonald is the head of Pragma Legal and reveals what it means as a legal practitioner to be seen and heard in the media. For Aaron, it makes sense to invest both time and resources to amplify his expertise. One short interview on breakfast radio resulted in three calls and two significant contracts for the firm, after he was heard on the wireless. He says each media engagement is a ‘media asset’ that is designed to keep you front of mind and can be relevant to an audience you are looking to influence. This chat with Aaron helps to break down some of the stigma attached to lawyers and the legal sector, which can only be countered by getting out from behind the desk and representing as a strong advocate for his industry.

Jenna Clarke
The energy that Jenna Clarke brings to The Experts Podcast is no different to the energy that she applies to her craft in her day job as the Assistant Editor of The West Australian. Jenna is prolific in media across radio and television and even hosts her own daily current affairs podcast, an innovative pivot by The West. What you will notice with this spirited and talented journalist is that while she is very competitive, she’s also very liberal with her admiration and respect for other media and journalists, which is so refreshing to hear. The unanimous sense you’ll get from listening to this podcast is that there’s never been a greater need for quality journalism and news than today. The increase in audience numbers are reflecting this, and the deficiencies in social media as a trusted source, have been further exposed as we navigate our way through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Louanne Ward
Love can make you do silly things… like starting an Experts podcast singing 1978’s John Paul Young hit ‘Love is in the Air’. That’s right we are talking love, relationships and dating. The media loves talking relationships, dating, intimacy, attraction, body language and communication because there is just so much to cover. And dating and relationships expert Louanne Ward, who has 30 years’ experience helping people find their soul mate, is surely one of Australia’s most well qualified and engaging experts in these areas. In this podcast we discuss how technology has changed the way we find our partners and how it’s impacted relationships. We discover why the coffee date is no good, how to read body language and we even get into how COVID-19 has hit the dating world. Then we also dive a little deeper into what motivates Louanne and discover the ‘why’ behind what she does. You will get a lot from listening to Louanne’s story as both a relationship expert and a media commentator. If this podcast was a date, you could say the conversation was great and we made a connection!

Dr Katherine Iscoe
In this Experts podcast we focus on the C word and it isn’t Coronavirus or COVID-19. It’s Confidence we’re talking about. We all need a little bit of Confidence Expert Dr Katherine Iscoe in our lives at the moment, especially as we’re surrounded by a such a confronting chain of events which are enough to shake-up even the most positive of people. The words of advice that come from Dr Kat are very relevant in these times. What I really enjoy about Dr Kat is her quirkiness and sense of humour. They are an essential part of her character, and combined with a razor sharp mind, you sense that her own confidence is drawn from these characteristics. Media has given Dr Kat credibility. Even an appearance on Studio 10 resulted in an invitation to be a participant on stage at a major medical conference. This edition of the Experts podcast is a must listen if you know Dr Kat and more importantly, if you don’t know her, you need to listen now. She doesn’t hold back and we wouldn’t want her to either. Enjoy!

Evan Broadway - 6IX General Manager
A passion for, and love of the media is what drives Evan Broadway, GM of radio station 6IX. When re-launching the Experts Podcast, we wanted to interview not only experts who’d made their mark in the media but also from the media themselves. Media is full of wonderful front-line people across print, online, radio and television but there are also very talented people in support and behind the scenes. Evan Broadway is one of them. Evan’s enthusiasm for his work is contagious. This is an amusing and informative chat with someone who treats his media career as more than just a job. He he’s been in the industry from an early age and recently launched his own podcast Broadway Broadcast where he interviews the people who’ve mentored him and inspired him on his media journey.

Tim Collins Aviation Expert
I’m am not sure that there’s a topic that the media and we as consumers are more fascinated by than aviation. As an industry it has it all – excitement, romance, leisure, safety, business and it’s the great connector of people and cultures. Qualified aviation experts are in short supply and we often get media requests for experts in this field. Tim Collins isn’t a journalist or an employee of an airline. He is a pilot of 40 years and is now an aviation consultant to the industry. One of Tim’s talents is that he can tell a story or analyse a situation from his first-hand, real life perspective, calling on his own aviation skills and knowledge. His other talent is the ability to make the complex, easy to understand. In our chat he’s discusses his career and reveals that he had the responsibility of flying a very well-known Prime Minister around during an election campaign. Tim advice for being an expert is to not sit back, but to put yourself out there. Its good advice. You can find Tim www.upstream-aviation.com

Oliver Peterson - 6PR Perth Live Host
The first of the media interviews in this series of The Experts podcast is with 6PR Perth Live’s host Oliver Peterson. Oliver is a new breed of talk radio broadcasters and is the youngest metro talk radio host in the country. He also has broad experience in TV and print, but his passion for radio eclipses the others. In this interview Oly, gives us an insight into how he chooses which stories to cover and how he covers them. He’s looking for stories that can start a conversation or that can provide a fresh angle on the news of the day. He always puts his audience first, and believes local stories that reflect what’s happening in people’s lives have the most impact. Oly’s main piece of advice for any expert is to be on topic! Start with your expertise, showcase it and put in your best performance. You can catch Oliver each weekday on Perth Live from 3pm to 6pm on Radio 6PR.

Meg Coffey - Social Media Expert
A lot of social media experts don’t get it right according to Meg Coffey and we agree. Many are just not doing their research or interpreting trends correctly. We dive a little deeply into the strategy behind working with social media. In Meg's opinion, all comes to audience and what they want. Very like the strategy of traditional media. Meg has never been shy to present an opinion or take a position. Why she does it is a great lesson for any budding expert. As Meg gets older she is very comfortable within herself and is not afraid to rock the boat. She says, "You don’t have to like me you just have to work with me”. This confidence and this strategy is one that works very well for her personal and business brand. We also get to catch up on the latest from State of Social, Meg's event that is quickly gaining a reputation as the leading digital conference in the Asia Pacific region. This is a really fascinating chat with one of Australia’s best social media commentators. You can find Meg here: https://coffeyandtea.com/
Sam Jackson - Health Coach
Sam Jackson is a health coach who has for the last twelve months, been producing some of the most outstanding health related media content in Australia. None greater than her "Lose the Dad Bod” special series which featured on Seven’s Sunrise program over several months. The reason we wanted Sam back on The Experts Podcast is that she embodies the energy and drive that every expert should be aspiring to harness, and use in their own media journey. Sam arrived for the interview, fresh after completing late night radio and a media engagement on national TV where the cross was at 4.30am in the morning. You would never have known it, because Sam always brings her ‘A Game’. You can find Sam www.samanthjackson.coach

Professor Gary Martin, AIM WA
When choosing a guest to kick-off our new series of The Experts Podcast, we couldn't go past Professor Gary Martin from AIM WA. Gary is someone that many experts and leaders of business look up to. It is very rare that you get a leader of industry and business that not only gets what media does for his personal and business brand but also knows how to produce and self-publish content. Gary is prolific across all media and he gives an insight how he does it, what it takes and what he gets from it. Lanna and Nic really enjoyed having a chat with the man that is known nationally as the go-to "workplace culture expert", a tagline that works very well for his personal brand but more importantly for the brand that he leads, The Australian Institute of Management WA. You can find Gary on Linkedin here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/professorgarymartin Follow us: Instagram @theexperts_podcast
