This episode is brought to you by Rupa University and AG1. Do you experience cravings for sugar and refined carbs? Do you regularly feel tired or sluggish or experience brain fog? Do you have joint pain, muscle aches, bloating, gas, sinus problems, skin problems, anxiety, depression or insomnia, or simply put, do you “feel like crap?” Most people, at some point in their lives, have experienced what I call FLC Syndrome—this is when you Feel Like Crap. This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, BiOptimizers, Levels, and AlgaeCal. We live in a country that claims to be based on science, goodwill, and policies intended to help people. Today on The Doctor’s Farmacy, I’m excited to talk to Marianne Willamson, candidate for President in 2024 and a good friend of mine, about her vision for how we can change our food system, economy, environment, and public health outcomes for the better. Ep 797Is It Okay To Eat Cheese And What Types Of Dairy Should You Avoid?
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health and BiOptimizers. We’re told that milk is a perfect food that we should drink daily—three glasses to be exact—in spite of a large (and growing) body of research showing its lack of benefits and awful side effects. Even though cow’s milk today contains dozens of reproductive hormones, allergenic proteins, antibiotics, and growth factors, some of which are known to promote cancer, the dairy industry wants us to believe that their cows are happily producing milk and grazing through green pastures. For the most part, that couldn’t be further from the truth. In today’s episode of my series I’m calling Health Bites, I talk about common dairy myths, why it is such a contentious food, how to tackle the pros and cons of whether it belongs in your diet, and which dairy is actually okay to eat. This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health and BiOptimizers. Access more than 3,000 specialty lab tests with Rupa Health. You can check out a free, live demo with a Q&A or create an account at RupaHealth.com today. If you want to tackle an overlooked root cause of stress, go to magbreakthrough.com/hyman and get 10% off of Bioptimizers Magnesium Breakthrough with promo code hyman10. Here are more details from our interview (audio version / Apple Subscriber version): How the dairy industry drives headlines claiming milk is good for us (4:45 / 1:34) Why we don’t need milk for strong bones (7:55 / 5:58) Milk is a lousy source of calcium (9:25 / 7:32) Alternate sources of calcium (11:10 / 9:14) Milk increases your risk for cancer (12:50 / 10:56) Dairy fat is not the problem (14:26 / 12:30) Is butter bad for you? This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, Beekeepers, and Cozy Earth. Inflammation is our body’s natural defense system and can be a good thing. Ep 791Are Your Genes Making You Fat and Sick?
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health and Levels. You may be surprised to learn that your lifestyle and food choices are much better indicators of your health and weight than your genes. While it is true that some genes can predispose you to obesity, type 2 diabetes, or heart disease, predisposition is not predestination. In fact, 90 percent of our current health is controlled by the environment in which we bathe our genes—the food we eat, our exercise regimen, our resilience in the face of stress, and our exposure to environmental toxins. In today’s episode of my series I’m calling Health Bites, I talk about how your diet and lifestyle influence your genes and my top strategies for weight loss and optimal health. Ep 784How Our Life Experiences Influence Our Gene Expression And Overall Health
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, Sensate, and Super Simple Protein. Epigenetics is the study of how our environment and behavior can influence which of our genes are turned on or off. That’s right—we’re born with many different genes, but that does not mean they are all active. Genes can be activated or silenced from so many different things, like what you eat, how you move, and how you restore your system. Your thoughts, feelings, and social connections even regulate your genes too. You can turn on genes that create health or disease or weight gain or weight loss. In today’s episode, I talk with Drs. Jeff Bland, Bruce Lipton, and Todd LePine about how environmental and lifestyle factors are significant determining factors of your health. Dr. Jeff Bland is the founder of Big Bold Health, a company on a mission to transform the way people think about one of nature’s greatest innovations—the immune system. Through Big Bold Health, Jeff is advocating for the power of immuno-rejuvenation to enhance immunity at a global level, often through the rediscovery of ancient food crops and superfoods. Jeff’s career in health spans more than 40 years. A nutritional biochemist by training, he began in academia as a university professor. Jeff then spent three decades in the natural products industry, working alongside other pioneers. Dr. Bruce Lipton is a stem cell biologist and author of the bestselling books The Biology of Belief, Spontaneous Evolution, and The Honeymoon Effect. Dr. Lipton is the recipient of the prestigious Japanese Goi Peace Award and has been listed in “the 100 Most Spiritually Influential Living People” by Watkins Mind Body Spirit magazine for the last 13 years. Dr. Todd LePine graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and is board certified in internal medicine, specializing in Integrative Functional Medicine. He is an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner. Prior to joining The UltraWellness Center, he worked as a physician at Canyon Ranch in Lenox, MA, for 10 years. Dr. LePine’s focus at The UltraWellness Center is to help his patients achieve optimal health and vitality by restoring the natural balance to both the mind and the body. Ep 783Does Eating Meat Help Or Harm Our Health?
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, Mitopure, and Super Simple Grassfed Protein. While anti-meat advocates and scientists have tried to scare Americans by linking meat to everything from cancer to heart disease, diabetes, and even obesity, research actually shows meat is a nutrient-dense food that can help prevent disease and nutritional deficiencies when you eat it with plenty of plants and vegetables (and not as part of the typical Western diet and lifestyle). That doesn’t mean there isn’t a dark side to eating meat, but there are good scientific and health-minded reasons to eat high-quality, organic, grass-fed, sustainably raised meat as part of an overall healthy diet. In today’s episode of my series I’m calling Health Bites, I discuss why meat is such a contentious food, whether meat really contributes to global warming, and how to make the most informed decision about purchasing and eating meat. This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, Mitopure, and Super Simple Grassfed Protein. Access more than 3,000 specialty lab tests with Rupa Health. Ep 780Know Your Numbers: How Personalized Testing Can Optimize Your Health And Reverse Disease with Pranitha Patil
This episode is brought to you by ButcherBox, BiOptimizers, and Super Simple Grassfed Protein. Doctors often order lab tests based on specific concerns, which means potential issues from hormone imbalances to nutrient deficiencies can be overlooked. However, with robust, routine lab testing and personalized insights from top medical experts, we can finally understand and manage our health. This proactive approach represents the future of your healthcare. I co-founded Function Health alongside Pranitha Patil and others. I was excited to sit down with her for this episode. Our mission is to empower people to live 100 healthy years. In our conversation, we dive deep into the importance of individualized health information, exploring topics like comprehensive cardiovascular, autoimmunity, thyroid testing, and much more. Pranitha made a bold move, leaving Harvard University's graduate school early to build Function Health. Her extensive background at Accenture saw her working closely with the largest hospital systems and health insurance providers, where she witnessed the problems with healthcare from the inside. More personally, Pranitha's own health challenges inspired her to prioritize giving people the power to own their health. Function is the first-ever membership offering access to over 100+ lab tests. Ep 774How Chronic Stress Impacts Your Health And Drives Adrenal Dysfunction
This episode is brought to you by Mitopure, AG1, Zero Acre, and Super Simple Protein. In small doses, stress can be beneficial. However, experiencing too much stress for too long, creates an intense demand for hormones like cortisol and adrenaline to be released. Elizabeth Boham, Izabella Wentz, and Rangan Chatterjee about the link between chronic stress, cortisol, and adrenal dysfunction and how to choose joy to reduce stress. Dr. Elizabeth Boham is a physician and nutritionist who practices Functional Medicine at The UltraWellness Center in Lenox, MA. Ep 770How To Improve Energy Production, Reduce Inflammation, And Promote Longevity
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, Joovv, Pendulum, and Super Simple Protein. Mitochondria are the energy powerhouses of each cell in the body. Unfortunately, our modern diet and lifestyle compromise our mitochondria, which results in suboptimal function of the brain and other organs, reduced energy levels, and even cancer. Luckily, there are science-based practices like cold water therapy that we can do to improve the mitochondrial function of our cells, reduce inflammation, support the immune system, boost metabolism, and more. In today’s episode, I talk with Drs. Chris Rinsch and Stuart Phillips, Wim Hof, Dr. Susanna Søberg, and Dr. Steven Gundry about how to improve the mitochondrial function of our cells, reduce inflammation, and more. Dr. Chris Rinsch is the cofounder and CEO of Amazentis, an innovative life science company dedicated to employing breakthrough research and clinical science to bring advanced therapeutic nutrition products to life. Dr. Stuart Phillips is a professor in the Department of Kinesiology and a member of the School of Medicine at McMaster University. Ep 769How To Reset Your Immune System At A Cellular Level
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, AG1, and Super Simple Grassfed Protein. It’s time to think about immunity in a new way. There’s been a lot of focus recently on “boosting” your immune system. However, boosting immunity merely exaggerates all the defects of an aging immune system, whereas rejuvenation reboots immunity from your cells up. Rejuvenation is way more foundational and longer lasting than a basic boost because it uses your built-in programming to rebalance and optimize that system’s function. In today’s episode of my series I’m calling Health Bites, I dive into immuno-rejuvenation—what it is, how it happens in the body, and my top strategies for switching it on. This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health and Super Simple Grassfed Protein. Access more than 3,000 specialty lab tests with Rupa Health. You can check out a free, live demo with a Q&A or create an account at RupaHealth.com today. Head to drinkAG1.com/HYMAN to receive 10 FREE travel packs of AG1 with your first purchase. Right now, you can get 10% off Super Simple Grassfed Protein by heading to drhyman.com/protein and using code protein10. Here are more details from our interview (audio version / Apple Subscriber version): Why rejuvenation is better than the conventional approach to immune health (5:37 / 3:55) How rejuvenation happens in the body (7:06 / 4:22) Activating our body’s own immuno-rejuvenation (11:05 / 8:25) How positive stress is rejuvenating (13:38 / 11:22) Examples of positive stressors (16:52 / 14:37) Mentioned in this episode Big Bold Health

Ep 768The Most Important Tests to Assess Your Risk of Heart Disease That Your Doctor Doesn’t Check with Dr. Ronald Krauss
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, BiOptimizers, LMNT, and Cozy Earth. Heart disease is still the number one killer in the world, yet most people don’t actually understand what markers put them most at risk. The general consensus is there are two types of cholesterol—the good and the bad—the good is thought to be high-density lipoproteins or HDL, and the bad is low-density lipoproteins or LDL. But we now know from research that it's much more complicated than that—there are actually various sizes and densities of these lipoproteins. Today on The Doctor’s Farmacy, I’m excited to talk to one of the leading lipidologists, Dr. Ronald Krauss, all about lipoproteins, what they do in the body, what they mean for heart disease risk, and why a typical lipid panel alone is insufficient. Dr. Krauss is a Senior Scientist at Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute, a Professor of Medicine at UCSF, and an Adjunct Professor of Nutritional Sciences at UC Berkeley. Dr. Krauss’s research aims to understand how to best prevent cardiovascular disease through early detection and management of its major risk factors: most notably, elevated levels of blood cholesterol and lipoproteins. He has published over 450 research articles and reviews on metabolic, genetic, dietary, and drug effects on plasma lipoproteins and the risk of coronary artery disease, with over 100,000 citations of this work. This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, BiOptimizers, LMNT, and Cozy Earth. Access more than 3,000 specialty lab tests with Rupa Health. You can check out a free, live demo with a Q&A or create an account at RupaHealth.com today. This month only you can get a FREE bottle of BiOptimizers Magnesium Breakthrough. Right now, get 40% off your Cozy Earth sheets. Just head over to cozyearth.com and use code DRHYMAN. Here are more details from our interview (audio version / Apple Subscriber version): How Dr. Krauss came to understand how cholesterol actually impacts the risk of heart disease (5:00 / 2:44) What is cholesterol? (9:00 / 6:37) Statins as heart disease treatment (13:36 / 11:29) Combatting myths around saturated fat (14:42 / 12:37) The assay Dr. Krauss developed to differentiate between the different sizes of lipoproteins and what they mean for heart disease risk (29:58 / 25:40) Testing beyond the standard lipid panel (39:51 / 35:31) Insulin resistance, prediabetes, and heart disease (46:35 / 41:50) Personal variation in heart disease risk (52:52 / 48:34) Dietary approaches to preventing heart disease (1:01:07 / 56:56) Research mentioned in this episode

Ep 767What Causes A Fatty Liver And How To Fix It
This episode is brought to you by Rupa University, Mitopure, Levels, and Super Simple Protein. Fatty liver is a dangerous yet misunderstood disease that is growing more and more common, and its effects are numerous. Fatty liver happens when fat replaces your liver cells and thereby compromises its important functions, thus increasing inflammation in the body. Surprisingly, it is not fat that causes a fatty liver, but sugar and starch. In today’s episode, I talk with Dr. Elizabeth Boham, Dr. Robert Lustig, and Shawn Stevenson about the importance of our liver and how to support it. Dr. Elizabeth Boham is a physician and nutritionist who practices Functional Medicine at The UltraWellness Center in Lenox, MA. Through her practice and lecturing she has helped thousands of people achieve their goals of optimum health and wellness. She witnesses the power of nutrition every day in her practice and is committed to training other physicians to utilize nutrition in healing. Dr. Robert Lustig is a neuroendocrinologist with expertise in metabolism, obesity, and nutrition. He’s the Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology and a member of the Institute for Health Policy Studies at UCSF. He is also one of the leaders of the current “anti-sugar” movement that is changing the food industry, in part through his game-changing books. Shawn Stevenson is the author of the international bestselling book Sleep Smarter and creator of The Model Health Show, featured as the number one health podcast in the US, with millions of listener downloads each year. A graduate of the University of Missouri–St. Louis, Shawn studied business, biology, and nutritional science and went on to found Advanced Integrative Health Alliance, a company that provides wellness services for individuals and organizations worldwide. This episode is brought to you by Rupa University, Pique, and Super Simple Grassfed Protein. In today’s episode of my series I’m calling Health Bites, I dive into Akkermansia—what it is, what role it plays in chronic disease prevention, and what you can do to increase it. This episode is brought to you by AG1, Pendulum, BiOptimizers, and Super Simple Grassfed Protein. If we were to identify one big lever to pull to improve global health, create economic abundance, restore environmental health, and reverse climate change, it would be transforming our entire food system. The policies and industry interests that drive our current system must change to fix our broken food system from field to fork and beyond. In today’s episode, I talk with Calley Means, Robby Sansom, Taylor Collins, and Dhru Purohit about industry funding that influences the results of food studies, marketing, and government policy. Calley Means is the cofounder of TrueMed, a company that enables Americans to buy exercise equipment and healthy food with FSA/HSA dollars. Ep 760Leaky Gut: How To Spot It And How To Fix It
This episode is brought to you by ButcherBox, Beekeeper’s Naturals, and Super Simple Grassfed Protein. There are a number of insults that attack our guts on a regular basis. Some of them, like our diet, we have control over, but others, like environmental toxins, will find us whether we want them to or not (although there are ways to limit our exposure). This has led to an onslaught of a condition known as “leaky gut,” which likely affects all of us to some degree. In today’s episode of my series I’m calling Health Bites, I talk about leaky gut—what it is, what causes it, and how to treat it. This episode is brought to you by ButcherBox, Beekeeper’s Naturals, and Super Simple Grassfed Protein. Ep 759How Censorship, Corruption, And Greed Are Keeping Us Sick And Divided with Robert Kennedy Jr.
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, Mitopure, Apollo, and Cozy Earth. We live in a country that claims to be based on science, goodwill, and policies intended to help people. But in reality, these things are often heavily influenced and manipulated by industry, particularly Big Food, Big Pharma, and Big Ag, which have corrupted many institutions, politicians, professional associations, and research entities. And it has, unfortunately, led to mass confusion and illness in the public. Today on The Doctor’s Farmacy, I’m excited to talk to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., candidate for President in 2024, and my longtime friend about the chronic disease epidemic and his vision for how we can change our food system, economy, environment, and public health outcomes. On April 19, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. announced his candidacy for president of the United States. He has carried on his family’s legacy of public service by devoting himself to environmental causes and children’s welfare. He is the founder of the Waterkeeper Alliance—the world’s largest clean water advocacy group—and served as its longtime chairman and attorney. He then went on to found Children’s Health Defense, where he served as chairman and chief litigation counsel in its campaign to address childhood chronic disease and toxic exposures. As President, Kennedy will end the forever wars, clean up the government, restore the middle class, heal the divide, and tell Americans the truth. Ep 757Why Supplements Are More Necessary Than Ever Before
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, Levels, and ARMRA Colostrum. In an ideal world where soils are rich and the air and water are pure, we would be able to get all of the vitamins and nutrients we need through diet alone. However, for most, that’s just not practical in our toxic world. In today’s episode, I talk with Dr. Michael Murray, Fred Provenza, Dan Kittredge, and Jeff Tkach about the symbiotic relationship between plants and soil and why supplements may be necessary to make up for the lack of nutrients in the foods we eat. Dr. Michael Murray is a doctor of naturopathy, a field of alternative medicine that seeks to harness the power of nature to prevent illness and achieve the highest level of health possible. He is the Chief Science Advisor for iHerb and the author of more than 30 books, including The Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine Third Edition and The Longevity Matrix. Fred Provenza is a professor emeritus of behavioral ecology in the Department of Wildland Resources at Utah State University. He is the author of three books, including Nourishment: What Animals Can Teach Us about Rediscovering Our Nutritional Wisdom; Foraging Behavior: Managing to Survive in a World of Change; and The Art & Science of Shepherding: Tapping the Wisdom of French Herders (co-written with Michel Meuret). Dan Kittredge has been an organic farmer for more than 30 years and is the founder and executive director of the Bionutrient Food Association, a nonprofit whose mission is to “increase quality in the food supply.” Out of these efforts the Real Food Campaign was born, which has engineered a prototype of a handheld consumer spectrometer designed to test nutrient density at point of purchase. Jeff Tkach serves as the Chief Impact Officer for the Rodale Institute. Jeff is responsible for expanding Rodale Institute’s global influence in healing people and the planet by unlocking the transformational power of regenerative organic agriculture. Jeff served on the Rodale Institute’s board of Directors in 2016, where he was instrumental in fostering relationships between the organization and business leaders in the organic food industry.
