Ep 2424: From Kitchen Table to $50 MILLION Per Year with Evan Tardy
It will probably not come as a surprise that today's guest, Evan Tardy, was born with entrepreneurship blood running through his veins. His grandfather took the risk years ago to walk away from the already-in-place family farm and started a company, which is now run by his own father. Both men played a pivotal role in instilling a strong worth ethic in Evan, and further supporting those roles with phrases like, "You make your money at 4:00 on a Friday afternoon." With this in mind, it was inevitable that Evan started his own entrepreneurial career at the ripe age of 16 when he created his own mobile car wash service. Of course, hours upon hours in the sun washing cars gets tiring after a couple years, so with a successful run he sold the business to a friend to pursue other adventures on his entrepreneurial path. While there were moments of discouragement (and still some today), he just kept hustling and getting things done with the mentality that you "learn in your 20s and earn in your 30s" thanks to the idea from author Keith Ferrazzi. So after trying a lot of different things, volunteering and learning about various areas, he ended up meeting a dentist who was moving to town. Seeing the need for some marketing help, Evan offered to help him at no cost (it was the perfect opportunity for him to cut his teeth on the new things he'd learned). Not only was he successful, he increased the dentist's monthly income by more than three times than when he began. Evan also helped another friend with his marketing at no cost and had similar results. Did he need to give his work away for free? Certainly not, but for him, "The benefit of being able to help someone in some way or another and approach every challenge or thing I wanted to learn has come back to pay dividends in many, many multiples." After all, why would you not practice/hone your skills with a smaller (safe) audience before you have to do it for a much larger group? "Create a safe space for you to experiment. Try stuff, learn and fail when you only have an audience of two or three or when there's very little on the line." Fast forward to Evan's raging success as the President of Dr. Axe, the 2nd largest natural health website in the world. Now in a leadership role, he focuses on bringing the right people onto their team and ensuring that everyone is bringing their best selves and creative problem-solving skills to work each day. But what else contributes to the fact that Dr. Axe has been recognized as one of Inc. 5000's fastest-growing companies? "We're serving people with a mission that's a lot greater than ourselves." And while that mission is super important, he also knows that money, personal growth and friends play a factor, in addition to reinvesting in their employees, hiring more great people and focusing on the same things. There's really no "secret sauce." "By really choosing to focus on a few key pieces of the puzzle for us, we're able to reinvest profits to get better and better." Evan is a shining example of what it means to be a true entrepreneur – both in work ethic and generosity. And he feels that we're all here to aspire to some amount of greatness. Whether you make millions or just get by, he truly believes we should all just, "Enjoy the journey and OWN that we are all striving for greatness." And what a great lesson for us all. Ep 2323: An Entrepreneur's HACK Guaranteed to BOOST Your INCOME
My Two Cents – Ep. 23 – An Entrepreneur's Hack Guaranteed to Boost Your Income Here it is, the business hack you've been waiting for… Delegation. Ok, so this isn't a new concept, but stick with me because I'm going to share my "formula" and rules that make this a game-changer for your business and life. While the idea of delegation is quite basic, it's often not used to its full potential – if at all. Just my two cents, but "You simply cannot and should not be doing everything yourself." I understand that it's hard either giving up power or money, but this is exactly the reason you SHOULD. You're not being efficient, it slows you down and you could end up potentially losing money as well. "You should only be doing income-producing activities or activities that you love. That's it. Nothing else." So how do you know if delegation is right for you? The following two rules will help you determine if you can afford to delegate or if your business is at a point to delegate tasks. If you can hire out the task for less than you currently value your time at, then do it! Even if you have to hire it out for the same value as what you value your time at (or slightly more), and if it is delegating a non-income-producing activity, then do it. Here's how to estimate the hourly value of your time: Take your gross revenue (or your estimated gross revenue) and divide it by the number of hours you put into your business. This is typically 2,080 hours a year (52 weeks x 40 hours a week). Example, if you made $80,000, your hourly rate would be about $39/hour. If delegating a task would be less than this – do it! And keep in mind that even if it's a higher rate, it will likely still save you time (which is ultimately more money). And don't forget, when you delegate you're putting more jobs out into the economy as well. Not to mention you'll likely be passing over duties that frustrate you. In turn you'll likely feel a weight lifted – and be a happier person! I can tell you from experience that when you're happier, you attract more customers/business. "A happier entrepreneur is a more effective entrepreneur." I encourage you to start before you're ready. Stop doing the things you hate. And spend time doing more of what you love – growing your business and having more fun with it. To help you see where some of your inefficiencies are at (whether you're an entrepreneur or business leader), be sure to make this list: What's your hourly value? List every activity that you currently do to grow your business that somebody else could be doing that falls under your hourly value. List things that cost the same as (or a little more than) your hourly rate that you're currently doing, but would save you hours. Add anything else that you could delegate – get creative! What were your results? I would love to hear! Be sure to tag me on Facebook or IG! Now, go get delegating! Ep 2222: The EXPERT in How to MONETIZE YOUR PASSION Online with Melyssa Griffin
I am so excited (like geeking-out excited) for you to hear my conversation with Melyssa Griffin. She truly exemplifies the meaning of true entrepreneurship and giving, and I can't wait for you listen. (This podcast is a must for anyone who has a passion and wants to make a living by doing just that.) For those who may not know, Melyssa is a rockstar at teaching online courses and live workshops for entrepreneurs and bloggers who want to turn their after-work hobbies into full-time businesses. A few of her specialties include list-building, webinars, using Pinterest to get organic traffic, and content marketing. She also leads an active Facebook group of 60,000 members and helps almost 150,000 entrepreneurs with her weekly emails. Early on, Melyssa actually had nothing to do with the blogging/online world. After college, she started out as an English teacher in Japan, but after some time just never felt like it was her true purpose, so she started to pursue more creative avenues. She wasn't looking to start a business, she just really wanted to build an online community/blog that could help people become their best selves and be more creative. Well, once her blogging began, it spiraled into so many different areas. Melyssa opened a small web studio and focused her blogging on her experiences with growing her business. And wouldn't you know, people were really interested in what she learned and what she had to say. It was during this time that Melyssa discovered that while she enjoyed the creative work she was doing and learning new things each day, she actually was having more fun (and fulfilling her purpose more) by teaching others what she was learning along the way and helping them find the freedom in their lives like she did. And so began helping as many people as possible, "Monetize their passion." Ok, ok, easier said than done… Or is it? I know for many, this seems like a long shot. Can your passion really make you money? You'd be surprised. Melyssa's clients range from yoga teaching to art lessons with a unique type of marker (seriously). "People don't realize that there are all these sub-niches out there with people who are willing to spend money to learn what you already have in your head." But you have to be willing to put in the work and put the information out there. Time is always a factor, but in this day in age, it's easier than ever. Melyssa estimates that in 90 days and for less than $500, you can create a profitable business. Clearly, it won't happen overnight, but you don't need a HUGE audience. You just need to focus and be willing to forego a leisure activity or two. You can make it happen. "The time often exists if we make space for it. It's just a matter of are we willing to make that sacrifice in the vision of something bigger that's out there for our lives." Melyssa goes on to talk about her fears and practices to help break through them. She also shares with us her money mindset struggle and why she feels it's so important to be transparent and real when it comes to sharing her experiences (she shares her income and expenses on a monthly basis on her website). Melyssa is truly an entrepreneur who just keeps giving and giving…and giving. Whether it's the Pinterest knowledge she drops on this podcast, a free workshop/online course or helping to raise money for Pencils of Promise, it's so obvious that everything she does has others in mind. Money is great, but at the end of the day, it's about caring for people and finding a way to help each other. After all, Melyssa truly believes and practices what she says, "The biggest thing you can give is your heart." And I couldn't agree more. Ep 2121: Why I UNAPOLOGETICALLY Bought A Ferrari
Wait a second, this is a podcast about giving, right? So why in the world am I talking about buying a Ferrari? While the title seems a bit contradictory, I assure you there's more to it. If you've listened to my other podcasts, you know that I'm all about smashing negative wealth stereotypes. And that's why I want ALL my listeners to have the ability to BUST through any mental blocks they have around wealth and unapologetically celebrate and pursue their wealth and accomplishments – OUT LOUD. There's a catch though…you must deem yourself worthy of all the good things that you accomplish along the way. "If you don't believe you're worthy, you'll never really reach your maximum wealth ability, and you'll never reach your ability to give in as big of a way as you want to." But there has to be a balance between giving to ourselves and to others. After all, what's it all for if we don't stop to acknowledge in some way, shape or form our achievements along the way? Does this mean you have to go out and buy a car? Definitely not – cars are just one of my deep-rooted passions. However, it's so important to find something that represents both the season/mood you're in at the time of your accomplishment and who you had to become in order to get it. For example, right now. "I'm in the season of aggressive, fast, sexy, and eye-catching movement – full speed ahead." Surround yourself with whatever will support you and help you to go ALL in. Be unapologetic about what dangling "carrot" motivates you to produce more epic results. And as those results compound, you'll be able to give the excess away to others. And at the end of the day, that's what it's all about, right? Ep 2020: MILLIONAIRES in Their 20's...How Did Emily and Hayden Vavra Do It?!
Interviewing some of the youngest, most successful people I know today triggered me to ask one of my favorite questions, "What was your money mindset growing up?" I think people perceive wealthy individuals as "lucky" or "dealt the good hand in life," when truly I feel like 9 times out of 10, entrepreneurs didn't START off that way, which is why I like to hear (and share with my audience) everyone's background and how it all began. Interestingly, today's guests Emily and Hayden Vavra, give two very different but REAL perspectives on the beginning of their entrepreneurial careers. Emily was raised by a hard-working single mother with the mindset that "money doesn't grow on trees." Hayden, however, was raised in a very large and privileged family of equally hard-working parents and with the belief that anything and any amount of money is possible. Before entrepreneurial life, both had their careers – Emily made an average amount of money and Hayden played for a short time in the NFL. And while they were content, both knew as a couple that they were destined to do more. "I started reading a lot more, attended my first event and working on personal development. So I think for me, a lot of it came from the mindset. I needed to first believe that I could do it." – Hayden Vavra From a happy, but mediocre, lifestyle to an insane entrepreneur empire, Hayden and Emily are an unstoppable power couple. "We both have our individual dreams, goals and aspirations, but we definitely talk together about what's on the horizon as well and crazy goals that most people would laugh about if they ever heard us talking." Accomplishing things on your own is empowering and exciting (don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise), but from my own personal experience, and hearing what Emily and Hayden had to say as well, crushing goals with the one you love is a completely priceless feeling. Ep 1919: How To CONTROL Your OWN ECONOMY
"Your economy is YOUR economy." How you live, how you run your business and/or behave as an employee, what you spend and what your savings habits are – that's all up to you. It's in your hands…literally. I repeat, "Your economy is YOUR economy." So for all of my listeners who think we're in "tough times" right now, I'm here to have you try on a new idea, change your way of thinking and ask you to find a new perspective. "People see what they want to see." It's easy to find comfort and misery in tough times. Whether it's within your bank account or your relationships, I challenge you to think outside the box. As the old saying goes, "No one said it will be easy, but it will be worth it." "Knowing you can thrive in any city – at any time – is like having the magic ticket to success." Ep 1818: From SUPER BOWL Champion to Champion of EQUALITY with Brendon Ayanbadejo
Born into an interracial family, Brendon Ayanbadejo's early first years were spent in Lagos, Nigeria. After his parents had decided to go their separate ways, he and his siblings moved back to the U.S. with their mom. "Growing up with a brother only 18 months older than me gave me my competitive edge or a bit of a 'chip on my shoulder' sort-of-speak. I felt like I always had something to prove. I had a little bit of talent with a whole lot of hard work." Speaking with someone as driven and as disciplined as Brendon today gave me immense inspiration and motivation to continue bettering myself from the inside out. "I knew by the age of 10 years old that I wanted to be a professional athlete so my body was going to be that vessel along with my discipline and mentality of sacrifice and hard work." Taking us back down memory lane to where it all began for him, Brendon shares a tragic story of his childhood best friend, which was one of his earliest reasons behind staying drug-free and 100% focused for his future pro-athlete years that were to come. He mentions how his upbringing in a very open household allowed him to be free with both his thinking and his actions, instead of feeling the need to sneak around and "experiment." This also led him to his decision to remain focused on his long-term goals. "I think it's a mixture of nature and nurture that got both my brother and I to the professional level. It started with nature, the DNA to run fast, build muscle mass and the durability, but it's like having a beautiful piece of wood that you must carve into something special with nurture. That's the discipline, handwork and strategizing." From a professional athlete to a franchise owner and huge advocate of serving his community and giving back, Brendon's interview today covers all angles. He is proof that being unapologetically wealthy doesn't equal greed. With his hands in helping those with diabetes, The American Heart Association, and helping feed the hungry, it's safe to say that the world needs more Brendon Ayanbadejo's. "It's not about how much money you make – do what you love. If your love turns into dollars and cents than that's even more amazing." Ep 1717: Which Category Did YOU Come From...
What does your upbringing mean to you, and how has it shaped your financial situation today? Good question, huh? In today's episode, I've broken down our "upbringings" into three categories that just may be the reason(s) behind your bank account. Is your past dictating your thoughts and habits regarding this topic? Let's fund out. (You see what I did there?) 1. The "Struggle" 2. Let's "Just get by" 3. THRIVE "Regardless of what category you may fall under, it doesn't determine your long-term outcome." As grown adults, each and every day is a new opportunity for us to choose. To choose our spending/savings habits, to choose our thoughts and to choose new expectations of ourselves. "It's important to know where you come from and the lessons and strengths that you've gotten out of it." No matter which it is for you, the common thread between us all is the want for a life filled with abundance. However, how you define that and whatever that looks like for you is totally up to YOU. "Find where you started and pick where you want to go." Ep 1616: The Go Giver: PROFIT by GIVING with Bob Burg
Bob Burg is a sought-after speaker at company leadership and sales conferences sharing the platform with everyone from today's business leaders and broadcast personalities to even a former U.S. President. Bob is the author of a number of books on sales, marketing and influence, with total book sales of well over a million copies. His book, The Go-Giver, coauthored with John David Mann, has sold over half a million copies and it has been translated into 21 languages. It has been released in a new, expanded edition with a foreword by Huffington Post founder and publisher, Arianna Huffington. Bob is an advocate, supporter and defender of the Free Enterprise system, believing that the amount of money one makes is directly proportional to how many people they serve. He is also an unapologetic animal fanatic, and serves on the Board of Trustees of Furry Friends Adoption & Clinic in his town of Jupiter, Florida. "Giving is one of the absolute keys to success." As explained by Bob himself, a "go-giver" is someone who shifts their focus from getting to giving, and by giving he means, "constantly providing value to the marketplace." With his own incredible success, Bob is the perfect man to get advice from. Setting yourself apart from the "others" in the business world, means that you must provide something that makes people feel as if it is more valuable for them to buy from you, than it is to NOT buy from you. You with me? No if's and's or but's, "The entrepreneur, or salesperson must make their main focus the consumer." Starting out on the Late Night News, Bob shares that the field of broadcasting just wasn't his thing and continued on to sales "With minimal training in sales, I floundered for a bit at first." But due to his resourcefulness and the drive to become better, it didn't take long for him to master the business. Where you are in life and your business now is not the end result if you do not want it to be. Figuring out what your consumer wants + needs + desires, is the equation that will take you straight to the top! So, for all of you future entrepreneurs out there, Bob serves us today with some of the best-ever advice given… "Don't make your target to make money, make your target serving others. In today's episode, I will explore "The 5 Reasons Why It Has Never Been Easier to Be Successful than It Is in This Very Day and Age." 1. Share FREE content (it's trendy). 2. Masterminds 3. You can make money online with almost no investment (literally). 4. We are in a time of selling information (not selling things). 5. There is NO such thing as competition. (There is enough to go around if you are confident and good at what you do.) "The amount of information you need to start your own business is already out there!" Not being successful isn't from a lack of resources, not in 2017 at least. It's from a lack of your resourcefulness, don't be that person. Set some goals and crush them! "No one will know what you have to offer until you start offering it." If you want to be successful in life, all you have to do is offer massive value. Whether it be your work ethic, or you ingenious/original ideas etc., find the area that you kill it in, and make everybody want to learn from you. "Giving is free." Ep 1414: Journey From a Broke Mindset to a MultiMillionaire's Mindset with My WIFE! Lori Harder
Lori Harder, also my beautiful wife, is a leading expert in the field of fitness, transformational work, mindfulness, and self-love. As a self-made millionaire, successful entrepreneur, network marketing professional, author, cover model, and three-time fitness world champion, she offers a carefully curated set of practical tools to promote sustainable health, spiritual well-being, and financial freedom. Through her books, unique coaching methods and programs, she has helped countless people connect with their soul, transform their bodies, empower their minds, gain financial independence, and fall in love with themselves and their lives. Throughout her career, Lori has regularly appeared on the covers of and published articles for Oxygen Magazine, STRONG Fitness Magazine, Health & Fitness Magazine and Prosper Magazine. She has also been featured on NBC, Fox, and TLC networks. For those of you who may not know Lori's past or how it all began for her, I have the honor of sharing my wife's story with you today. Having a "money mindset" may not come naturally to everyone, but that doesn't mean you can't ever create it. "My success hasn't always been like this and I know it's something I will continue to work on for the rest of my life because I know that once you hit one level, there is a whole other level out there that you need to strive for." -Lori Harder Growing up, Lori was raised in a very conservative household. At a young age she was told, "Money is the root of all evil and you only need to make enough to survive. Anything more than that is evil and greedy." With the constant battle in her head between money isn't good vs. how does the world go 'round without it, can you see how that would create a whirlwind for a young child just trying to "make it?" Having two very different views on the subject when we first met, Lori's money mindset began to shift after we started to spend more time with each other. "It was refreshing to see that you and your family thought of money as just a thing that created awesome experiences. It was something you looked forward to and were proud of yourself for earning." Even though Lori still had the belief that money equaled greed, she still wanted to create a better life for herself – so she made it her mission to incorporate both beliefs. Why not make money, sufficient enough to live well and financially stress free, while still giving back and be of great service to others? DING DING (light bulb goes off)! "Money doesn't make you greedy, I believe that it just highlights more of who you already are. It will just amplify how you were already showing up in the world." Moving out to the West Coast, for us, put success and wealth in a whole other category. The entrepreneur mindset and the "shameless" money personalities out here, makes the opportunities endless. There is no cap or ceiling. If you have the passion and the heart to create something and make money off it then the world is your stage! (WELCOME TO HOLLYWOOD!) I know from experience that Lori is NOT the only person to come from a family who has fearful thoughts around money. Whether you think you don't deserve to have a lot of it, or that it's evil, or you end up spending it faster than you truly earn it, whatever it may be, my wife and I are here today to break through some of those tough beliefs and to "give you permission" if you will, to take control of your own life and finances. Hard work should always be recognized and rewarded. You will forever be blessed if you think big and share your gifts. Ep 1313: MYTH BUSTING the Common Money Phrases
Welcome to my version of "myth busters." Today I'm sharing my two cents when it comes to blasting away old myth sayings about money. For example, "Money doesn't buy happiness" or "Money doesn't grow on trees." For decades, possibly even centuries, depending on how you were raised or who you surrounded yourself with, people have had hard times with money. That's no secret. BUT, on the other, brighter hand, people (even some of the same people who once had problems) have also had extraordinary experiences with money. "All these negative money myths do is chip away at your healthy money mindset." Let's get rid of these myths and stay focused on the facts. The old saying "money doesn't grow on trees," is basically telling us that "money is hard to come by." I can't lie, I may have heard that a time or two while growing up when asking my parents for some cash, but let's be careful here. Why would we start to program children to believe that money is scarce when in fact it's NOT. "It's not your resources that make you wealthy, it's about your resourcefulness." I'm a firm believer in prayer and manifestation. I truly think that you attract what you believe. Take a second and ask yourself, "If I believe that money is scarce, will I ever really attract it?" Let that one sink in… Then tune back in for some more money myth busters!

Ep 1212: The Founder of THRIVE - Making Money Matter with Cole Hatter
Cole Hatter is an entrepreneur, investor, author and award-winning speaker. He invests in real estate, start-ups, and several funds exceeding $100 million. Cole is the founder of Thrive: Make Money Matter, an annual conference designed to teach entrepreneurs how to dominate in business and in life, while making the world a better place. Cole is a husband, father and philanthropist that strives to give back. Cole's greatest passion is working to encourage, educate and empower people to live their lives in a way that makes a measurable difference in the world. Growing up in the church community, Cole knew that God's goal for him one day was to serve people on an astronomical level. "I grew up privileged in beautiful SoCal, specifically Newport Beach and along with the values I was raised with, I knew that when I was older I wanted to be able to give back and get paid for it." Looking into different fields such as medicine, the police department etc…Cole decided that he wanted to become a fireman. "That meant I would get to play with fire, save people and get paid." Starting to pursue this path as early as high school, he attended night classes and weekend college classes to be able to knock out his prerequisites (EMT, Paramedics). At the age of 18, when everyone else his age was just beginning their courses, Cole had completed his and immediately began working for the department. Two years later, Cole got into a tragic car accident putting him in a wheel chair, disabling him from walking and talking. Due to the circumstances, he moved back in with his family and was told that both his physical and mental being may just be permanently damaged. With that being said, and the perfect physical ability needed in order to be a fireman, Cole had to choose another path and begin again. "While the corporate setting works great for others, I just knew it wasn't a fit for me, so I decided to make moves while I was healing." Thankfully present-day Cole is 100% healed and has gained back not only his perfect mental and physical ability, but business, power, money and some major life lessons, including the destruction and hit of the 2008 recession. Fast forwarding to today, Cole not only has his 12-year-old real estate company, but a stream of multiple incomes. "I have started about 30 companies. Twenty-six of them have failed, but the four that have not have been able to compensate for the failing 26 and also put me on the map as a successful entrepreneur." With amazing advice and tips, Cole's interview gives an incredible outlook on life and business as a whole. With all the money in the world, he continues to work hard and knows that his job on Earth is not quite complete. He continues to give back, invests in potential business land mines and still makes time for his beautiful family. But for all you upcoming entrepreneurs out there, one of the best take-away tips from Cole is toward the end of the interview, so make sure to listen all the way through! Ep 1111: Our SECRET to Our SUCCESS
"Done Is Better Than Perfect" I get asked a lot, "How do you get so much done? How do you and Lori accomplish such amazing things?" It's really no secret…we just roll up our sleeves, dive right in and learn as we go! I owe a lot of credit to my wife, Lori. I share some of my back story in today's episode and how guilty I was of not even trying something unless I was 100% positive I was going to "knock it out of the park." But let's just be clear on one thing…there is absolutely no way a person can be 100% positive of anything! Am I right!? So what's the matter? What's the wait? There shouldn't be any! Having your significant other's back and being their anchor are two different things. Don't hold yourself or them down by anchoring, take leaps of faith and chances. You'll be amazed at the outcome. It's not about a perfected skill, or a large amount of money, it's about whatever you have to give in that exact moment. Quit waiting. "My wife was my wake up call. Now it's MY turn to be YOURS." Ep 1010: He's Already GIVEN AWAY 33 CARS, and Just Getting Started with Mike Zeller
"I start businesses that make the world a better place." Speaking of people who make the world a better place, Mike is all about servant leadership. Using Tony Robbins as an example, he speaks about Tony's worth, not because it's extraordinary, but because he doesn't stop. Tony does what he does, 14,16, 20 hours a day, not because he needs the money or will ever "need" the money, but because he's here to SERVE! "Tony's mission is to impact more lives than anyone else in this world – probably other than Jesus." Of course we all want to grow our platforms, businesses, income, etc., but as Mike said, "People pick up on that." We must differentiate ourselves from similar businesses around us by giving back…servant leadership. One thing that Mike talked about today that really stood out to me, was how he personally reflects and how he believes people can "find their own personal gifts." Mike has taken almost every personality test imaginable. He finds that reflection and knowing your passions is what will not only bring you money, but what will make work enjoyable. "It will make the next 50 years of your "work life," feel like play-time. His tips and advice on starting a business and brand creation are just genius. "You have to know your persona and reputation before looking for investors. What's the feather in your cap?" I also asked him his favorite way to learn, and like Tony Robbins and Tim Ferris preach, Mike believes in immersive learning. "If you're trying to learn a new language, you don't just study one hour a week. You move to the country and immerse yourself. It's the same thing with business – you have to go all in." Long hours and hard work will get you everywhere. Jumping in head first may come with failures and setbacks, but it will eventually allow you to accelerate at a speed you've only dreamed of. Ep 88: From KILLING HIMSELF to KILLING IT In Business with AJ Mihrzad
AJ Mihrzad is the author of the best-selling book, The Mind Body Solution: Train your Brain for Permanent Weight Loss. With a passion for health, he studied Exercise Science and went on to earn a Master's degree in Psychology due to his fascination with the connection between mindset and weight loss. His cutting-edge approach to permanent weight loss insists that the key to a healthy body is a healthy brain. His clients are walking proof – there are hundreds of them! His writing has been featured in Entrepreneur Magazine, The Huffington Post, Men's Fitness, and Bodybuilding.com. AJ is a keynote speaker at high-end entrepreneurial and personal development events, and also hosts the popular podcast, the Online SuperCoach Podcast (available on iTunes). Along with inspiring the lives of the general public, he is dedicated to helping coaches create an ethical and profitable online income through his business mentorship program available at OnlineSuperCoach.com. Growing up, AJ explains to us that in order to gain "power" he turned to food. It was his emotional drug of choice and before he knew it, he was 60 lbs. overweight! But as he got older, and food wasn't the only unhealthy option, AJ found himself dabbling in drugs and alcohol as well. "I was just looking to numb the pain. It was almost like I had a death wish." Not just once, but three times, AJ recalls and shares with us his overdose experiences. "I would wake up in the hospital totally unaware of what just happened, become depressed for the next few days and then go right back to my old ways again." At the age of 26, he overdosed on a stimulant that caused his heart to flat line, and AJ was pronounced dead at the hospital. Thankfully nurses were able to revive him, but he remained in a coma for the following 7 days. It was during this time of pain and suffering that AJ had finally hit his rock bottom and was ready for a change. No one is "dealt a bad hand," but playing the victim may cause a person to think that way. The mind is a powerful thing – it can either help you or hurt you. "Not only was my victim mentality not serving me any longer, but it was literally killing me!" Fast forwarding to today and a much more uplifting time, AJ is one of the most successful entrepreneurs that I know. He has completely turned his life around, continues to stay sober and has turned to positive pastimes such as reading, self-help, journaling and even coaching as his new way of life. Even as we talked today, AJ remains 100% vulnerable and shared with us that there's always room for improvement. There will always be those sneaky little stories that we tell ourselves, which hand-in-hand, then hold us back. He is the epitome of a hardworking individual whose goal now is to live each and every day to its highest potential – seeking out the good, the opportunities and the blessings we are all given. I admire his story, his past and every bit of him that led him to where he is today. Whether it be giant leaps or a small stone's throw, progress is progress! "I used to drive a crappy car and now I drive a Bentley. Just a small example, but that's how progress pushes me!" Ep 77: 30 BOOKS in 30 DAYS - My Lessons Learned
The reason WHY I decided to read 30 books in 30 days. Yes, you heard me correctly. An entirely different book, every single day, for 30 days straight. You see, about two years ago, I wasn't complete fulfilled and in love with the person I was becoming. I found myself judging more than usual, drinking more than usual, eating crappier foods more than usual, and showing up for my self and others in a half-assed way (pardon my French.) "When you have greatness inside of you but you aren't doing anything to pursue it, it can be a boring and lonely place. And when you are bored and lonely, you tend to fill your time with stupid things." It was time I started noticing the gap between myself and others (specifically my wife, who happened to be kicking ass in all aspects of life at this time.) After some mindless scrolling on Instagram (yes, guilty!) I came across Tai Lopez, the king of what I like to call "Bait-and-switch." He has a knack for posting shiny things like cars, mansions, jets etc. to catch your eye and possibly even give you some mixed feelings about him as a person, but what he really is, is a freaking reading ROCKSTAR! Tai's reading book club is larger than Oprah's, from my understanding! WOWZA! "I thought to myself, If this man has the time to read a book a day and still be successful, then #1 wow am I lazy and #2 this is something I can do too!"But, it doesn't stop there. Find out how I gave back and my final donation to Make-A-Wish Foundation, in this episode! And, if you know what's good for you, go ahead and follow my guy, Tai! Ep 66: The King of FREE Media Spots, and WORKING With YOUR SPOUSE with Keith Miller
Keith grew up in a Chicago suburb and attended college at Drake University when he landed his fist internship in radio at KISS FM in Chicago. Since then, Keith finished school and moved to Cincinnati where he worked on a radio show that was heard in 15 different cities, daily. He got tired working for a large radio company and found an amazing job at Hubbard Broadcasting in Minneapolis, where he worked for 5 years. While in radio, Keith got to meet & hang out with big names like, 50 Cent, Nick Leshay, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Rob Thomas, Jewel and his date to the company Christmas party one year was the cast of the Real World Las Vegas!. He fell in love, got a Bernese Mountain dog named Roxy, got married, and then Keith and his wife decided to open a doggy daycare in 2008… That was an instant success, and in 2011 they took another leap and opened Bubbly Paws which is a self-service dog washing/grooming salon which now has 3 (and growing) locations in the Minneapolis area. The focus of both businesses was to make sure they provided and amazing service, but also gave back to the pet community. Keith and his wife are actively involved in the day to day operations of each business, and they now have a 13 month old son! Not feeling completely fulfilled in his radio career, Keith decided to take a leap of faith into something new. From radio DJ to business owner, him and his wife have made it successfully in the entrepreneur world. "In radio, we would pre-record each episode. Basically all that did for me, was teach me how to be a great liar and BS my way through each day." Like many others who have dreams to start their own business, Keith's biggest fear was failure. But with a year full of strategic planning, they finally decided to quit their mundane jobs and open a doggy daycare! Keith and his wife are the epitome of entrepreneurs. They first THOUGHT and VISUALIZED their dream, took MASSIVE ACTION even before they were ready, and finally made a dream their reality. "Writing my first rent check for $10,000 especially during the recession and only having one client was scary, but you just need to do it!" Having no idea where the business would take them today, they both still took the leap of faith, knowing there had to be more to live then their previous situation. Becoming insane with their marketing and advertising ideas, the doggy daycare has been mentioned even through Fed Ex's National campaign and QuickBooks! "We didn't just want to open a business, we wanted to give back and have fun with it!" As we all know, having a successful business means having A1 customer service. Keith's doggy day care has blown competitors out of the water, with their love for the customer and their pets (of course). With the natural drive for money, Keith's passion has paid off, and then some! Ep 55: From FAMILY FARM to the BIG STAGES; The Man PAID to See the TRENDS in Business with Seth Mattison
My interview with Seth today is basically just an inside look (listen) into our real-life daily conversations. Our double-date dinners and hangouts 100% of the time consist of business talk and motivational advice. For those of you who are "new" to Seth, he is a jack of all trades. He researches, writes and speaks on workforce trends, generational dynamics and marketplace shifts. His work is truly phenomenal. Just like us good-hearted, Mid-West boys, Seth comes from a rural town in Minnesota, raised on a 4th generational farm. He is the prime example of not judging a book by its cover. Now extremely well dressed and thriving in the big city of LA, Seth still reminisces on his upbringing and is "thankful everyday for where he came from." "I like to compare speaking to large crowds, to athletes. No matter how many games you have played in, you always have the pre-game jitters. The nervous excitement of wanting to do well." His business experience and speaking tips are invaluable, even for those of us who have been on a stage countless times but especially for those who haven't WANTED to be on stage, but have been too fearful to take the leap. "Just remember to freakin' have fun or else why are you doing it?" He makes it clear how important it is to show up for yourself and for those you are trying to serve, every dingle day in some sort of way, whether it be large or small. He reminds us that you must put the work in, even when there is no fanfare so that it pays off when its time for the limelight. If you don't show up in the Spring and bust your butt in the Summer, there will be no harvest in the Fall. His advice is moving and should inspire enough to make anyone want to become their own entrepreneur. The freedom it brings is life changing…literally. Seth also touches on the harsh reality (that we are all guilty of) of the time we spend consumed in social media or Netflix for example, when we could be focusing our attention and time on the things that will accomplish our goals and dreams. "Love people, serve people, add value & have fun." Not only is he completely ingenious when it comes to business and entrepreneurship but is just an awesome and an amazingly well-redounded guy. I am honored to have interviewed Seth and to also call him a friend. Danette has worked with some of the top fitness professionals in the industry including Jillian Michaels and George St. Pierre. For the first time ever, Danette shared her "$47 story" at my wife's event, The Bliss Project. After the fear of being too vulnerable subsided, Danette now shares her story with the world to let us all know, that it is VERY MUCH possible to change your life, the minute you change your mindset. "I feel like so many of us are just going through life on cruise control." After losing her second-born during childbirth, Danette spiraled into a deep depression. She went from being an active fitness leader to a young Mom who couldn't bring herself to get out of the house for months. "Looking back I like to call it a refiners moment, it's how glass and diamonds are made. You are getting burned, but turn out better than ever." Just when you thought things couldn't get worse, she tells us the terrible things her ex had put her through including wiping the bank account clean, leaving her with her two daughters broke. "I remember telling my girls we were going to play a game, to try and find any and all money we could around the house, including in-between the couch cushions. We came up with $47.63" Survival mode set in. There was no way she was going to allow her ex to bring her and her beautiful baby-girls down like that. Starting off with books and podcasts, Danette educated herself each day. Not having money was never an excuse. There is so much coaching for free on the internet, if you are willing to belly up and listen to it. Fast forwarding to today, Danette has become one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the business. Not only did she move on spiritually and financially, but Danette is now also married and continues raising her two young daughters who I know will only be just as successful as Danette, when they are older. "The motto in our family is "Small hinges move big doors." I know that my eldest daughter knows that money takes work and showing up in even the smallest ways each day." Having Danette on my podcast today was such an honor. Her life advice and the inspiration she exudes cant be topped. Ep 22: HOMELESS to HALF a MILLION in Less Than ONE YEAR with Sterling Griffin
EFounder of the Wealthy Coach Blueprint which is a 7 step process to help coaches master the business side of their coaching business. I am an expert at helping coaches create the system necessary to grow their business rapidly. My goal is to enable them to use their greatest gift so they can better serve their clients. I help coaches master their marketing so they attract their ideal clients. I help them transform those ideal clients into paid clients with ease and grace. In October of 2015, when the lease of Sterling's apartment was up, it lead him to where it would lead any other person short of money…couch surfing. Trying to make it in the world of a door-to-door salesman, as you can see that didn't really work out too well for him. "If I couldn't find anywhere to stay, I would sleep in my car." Not knowing where he would lay his head next, Sterling knew this couldn't be his life for the rest of his life. Something had to change, and it had to change quick! But as I have said before and I will say a million times again on this podcast, attitude and mindset is everything. I told him he seemed to be happy anytime we spoke and his response was, "Energy is a choice, so I choose it." For anyone who may be struggling at the moment or even for those listening who are financially stable but are still looking to better themselves, he goes on to tell us that "a lack of money is never the problem, it's the lack of resourcefulness that is the problem. The money around you is the reflection of your mindset." We tend to question our worthiness and ask ourselves "who am I to be doing this? Well, the answer is quite simple. If you are making a difference, then that is why you are doing it. To this day, Sterling is one of the most influential and inspiring people I know. His story certainly touched me and I know will have an immense impact on you too. From homeless to making a half of a million dollars in just 1 year is something to be extraordinarily proud of! Blessings do not just fall from a tree, they are prayed for and they are earned.
