Ep 720720: How to Transform Your Body in Just 6 Weeks (TT)
It's unfortunate right now that in our culture certain dogmas or mindsets get formed that become so rigid no new information is allowed to enter in... One of those areas is without a doubt the fitness field. "Experts" will spend years building a name for themselves based upon a certain style of training, but then find themselves in so deep that they can't turn back - Essentially their programming has become their namesake... It's my belief that you must absorb all information (from great minds around the world) and then use what is applicable for yourself in order to create a personalized approach to health & fitness... On today's #CabralConcept 720 I'd like to share with you how you can transform your body in just 6 weeks by combining the best of the best in training and nutrition - Enjoy the show! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/720 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral
Ep 719719: The Done for You Complete Low Thyroid Protocol (WW)
I've gotten so many questions on how to heal from Hashimoto's and low thyroid symptoms such as brain fog, thinning hair, fatigue, cold hands/feet, and low mood that I wanted to create a "how-to" show on what you need to do to rebalance your body... Although there are thousands of Functional Medicine doctors and practitioners that help patients and clients everyday to recover from thyroid issues, it's not very well known in the conventional medicine world... After all, if you're diagnosed with Hashimoto's, low thyroid, or any of the symptoms above you're most likely only given the one option to take a thyroid medication for the rest of your life - But how does that help rebalance the body? It doesn't... So, on today's #CabralConcept 719 I want to share with you the "Done for You Complete Low Thyroid Protocol" I used every week in my Boston and online practice - Enjoy the show! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/719 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral
Ep 718718: The "Big 5" Lab Tests Everyone Should Run (TWT)
There are dozens of what are called "sub-clinical" lab tests that can literally reveal to you what your underlying root cause health imbalances are, but unfortunately you'll most likely never hear about them... The reason they're kept from you is simply because they do not "diagnose dis-ease," which means that pharmaceuticals cannot be prescribed - which also means that health insurance will not cover them... Unfortunately, these are the labs that could save lives. They'll tell you far in advance what your hormone, gut dysfunction, mineral, vitamin, omega-3s, food sensitivity and other biomarkers are, so that you don't have to wait for the dis-ease to come for you... This is ultimately how I figured out what was wrong with my failing body and how I finally begin to heal - It's now my mission to share what those lab tests were with you... Tune into today's #CabralConcept 718 to discover the "Big 5" Functional Medicine lab tests anyone can run at home without their doctor signing off on - Enjoy the show! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/718 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral
Ep 717717: Why It's Important to Make Your Dreams Become a Reality (MM)
Sometimes I feel compelled to do a show that on the outside may not seem like it has anything to do with helping people get well, lose weight, or live longer... But after doing some unraveling you begin to understand that the way we frame our lives has everything to do with how we think and what actions we take... And it's those actions that lead to eventual outcomes (good and bad) that become our lives... Therefore, if our goal is to live a life of happiness and no regrets we must change the way that we currently see ourselves and what we believe we can achieve... Tune into today's #CabralConcept 717 to discover how and why it's important to make your dreams become a reality - Enjoy the show! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/717 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral
Ep 716716: Pilonidal Cyst, Red Eyes, Kapha Spices, Macronutrient Split, Nutrition Books, Putting It All Together (HouseCall)
Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let's get started! Mariellen: Thank you for all that you do. I have had a pilonidal cyst for the past three weeks that has been so painful. It hurts to sit and I cannot lay on my back when I go to sleep at this point. I sit all day at my job, 40 hours a week 5 days a week. I am 23 and a female. I have no dairy or gluten in my diet. I am very sensitive to sugar and recently feel as if I have candida. I really do not want to get this drained. I have had this before but I feel like it went away on its own or maybe just never was this bad. It's embarrassing and I am looking for more of a natural route. I do not want to have to live like this, but I am in so much pain. Everything I do irritates it. Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral, Happy Holidays! I am in my late 20s and have been experiencing chronic red eyes since I was a teenager. They don't hurt or itch and my vision is excellent but they're just always red. I've used "Clear Eyes" or "Visine" eye drops every single day for the past decade to clear the red. I get close to 8 hours of sleep everyday, I am physically fit and eat a fairly clean diet (no processed food, no dairy, gluten free, cheat meal 1-2 times a week). Both my parents occasionally have slightly red eyes, but not as severe as mine. I've had full blood work done by various PCPs since my early 20s and the results have been outstanding. The red eyes don't necessarily bother me but people often ask if I'm tired or my eyes look like I just smoked marijuana! LOL. Can this be part of an underlying health issue ? Love your work, Anonymous Jill: You mentioned on a podcast that when you studied in India, you helped make capsules that had hot spices in them, to balance the kaffa body type. I know hot and spicy foods can help, but I don't prefer eating them. Can you recommend something similar to what you made in India, that we have access to in North America? Chris: Hey Doctor Cabral! I feel a little stuck as to finding the best diet for myself. I am a 26 year old 6'1 175lb male. I eat a fairly high protein diet, 30-40% of all of my calories because that's where I find I feel my best. I know a high protein diet can be hard on the kidneys and overall health but when I eat higher carbs I get sleepy ie insulin spikes and when I try to switch to higher fat I notice my skin gets really oily. I have a PPARG CC gene which I'm pretty sure affects both fat and carb metabolism and according to DNA fit results, based on all of my genes I have medium sensitivity to fat metabolism and High sensitivity to carbohydrates, so I'm not exactly sure what a good Macronutrient split would be for me to aim for. Any insight is much appreciated. Thanks for everything you do, you are my go to for all things health and wellness! Kevin: Hi, My name is Kevin and I was wondering what books you would recommend to learn more about nutrition and how it impacts our body, especially from a training aspect. Thank you Kevin Nicole: Hi Dr. Cabral, I have been listening to your show for a few weeks now and have really been enjoying it. For the past 7 years I have been experiencing confusing symptoms which have continually gotten worse and the past two years have been more and more frustrating. I have been to about 5 natural health doctors and followed their recommendations without any relief, I have seen acupuncturists, chiropractors and done a lot of research on my own all to no avail. I am constantly constipated, I am lucky if I have one (incomplete) BM per day. I have tried Magnesium (worked for a few months but now has the opposite affect and just makes me more bloated and constipated), natural laxative tea (Smooth Move, etc.), probiotics (worked short term and now have the opposite affect as well), psyllium husk pills (sometimes works) which have all worked for short periods of time and then begin to make me more constipated. I also get very bloated so by the time I go to bed I am so uncomfortable I can't fall asleep for a while. Along with the bloating comes muscular aches and weakness particularly in the low back and hip flexors however overall general weakness. Most nights I ask my husband to sit on my back because it is the only temporary relief I can get. This usually starts around 3pm and then gets worse until bed time. I have had my food sensitivities tested and have followed that diet for about 6 months with no change in symptoms. I haven't noticed any correlation between the symptoms coming and something that I have done or not done, just the time of day. I also got a complete blood panel done about a year and a half ago (by a naturopathic doctor) because I have not gotten my period in 6 years. It showed that I barely have any estrogen, progesterone or testosterone in my body. The ND had me start taking supplements to calm and support my brain and I took
Ep 715715: Ingredient Review, Look Pregnant, High Hemoglobin A1c, Episcleritis, Multi-Vitamin Recommendation (HouseCall)
Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Andrea: Good evening! I have been listening to your podcast for months now and am so thankful for them! Each episode is jam packed with information to optimize my health and teach me so I can share with others. I am a personal trainer and have been approached by people who take and sell Isagenix Products. I am not sure if you have heard of this line, but wanted to get your thoughts on the products. Thank you so much in advance! -Andrea Lily: Hi Dr. Cabral! I absolutely love your podcast - especially the house calls. There are so many different subjects you tackle, and it's so great that you give reference to specific episodes if listeners want to know more about them. I've learned so much from you, and can't thank you enough for that. Now, I have a health question which I hope you can help with: my problem is that I feel bloated, look 6 months pregnant and have flatulence almost after every meal. I'm 39 years old and have had this problem for maybe 10-15 years. I've been vegan for 5 years now, don't eat gluten or sugar, have regular bowel movement every morning and I work out 5-6 days a week, do yoga, not really stressing out too much. I only eat raw foods (fruit) in the morning, in my smoothie. Cutting dairy and gluten has helped a little bit, but it's still pretty bad. I also do intermittent fasting, use probiotics and digestive enzymes, but nothing is helping :( Other than PCOS, I don't have any health conditions that I'm aware of. So, what do you think is the problem? What's would be the best thing to try to get better? I live in the Netherlands, so can't order any of your tests unfortunately, but any advice on how to start treating this would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks so much in advance! Thomas: Hello Dr. Cabral I love your podcast. I am a 43 year old male 6'2" 175 eat very healthy gluten free a and exercise almost daily in some form. I have had a blood test and was told my HEMOGLOBIN A1C was 5.7 a bit high. Like I said I eat very healthy and even have a very low sugar diet. I went on a 30 day NO sugar diet and did the test again. I had the same exact results they did not budge. I then decided to test my blood sugar on my own through out the day. Before and after meals, early in the morning and everything came out great. Very good readings. So my question is should I be concerned that my HEMOGLOBIN A1C is 5.7 and can not be able to change that? For the record my parents and one of my sisters also has the same exact reading 5.7. If there is anything you think I should do please let me know. Thanks Thomas Michael: Stephen: I have been experiencing inflammation in either of my eyes for the last 24 months. I went to primary care and an eye doctor who called the issue "episcleritis". Frequency was either eye being inflamed every 60 days or so. Doctor prescribed an artificial tear product that didnt seem to change the frequency. They tested for rheumatoid arthritis and did not find anything. Last May, I added a daily multi-vitamin and an extra C tablet to my regimen. I went 6 months before I had a recurrence...since then I have had several days of redness/inflammation/pain in either eye. Is there another recommendation besides the continued increase of vitamin intake (preventive)? I typically double up in vitamin C and take ibuprofen during the inflammation events. Is there another recommendation for treatment during the event? Appreciate your podcast...heard you on EOFire and appreciated your approach/insight. Thanks. MLC Angelita: I am 63, 5'6" , 140lbs. Exercise on a very regular basis. Love my smoothies, eat well and exclude anything white in my diet. Am on medication for cholesterol, blood pressure and Paxil. I am confident that these meds could have been avoided if I had been more informed of diet when I was younger. Throughout the last 40 years, I have been always physically active and hope to continue. I just discovered your insightful podcasts. I am truly confused whether I need to take multi-vitamins. There are so many out there. What do you recommend for someone my age? II live in Quebec, Canada and our winters are quite long. Do I need a mineral boost throughout this season? Thank you. In order for you to get well, lose weight, improve your mood, and wake up everyday with plenty of energy your hormones must be optimized and balanced... Ep 709709: Skin Bumps, Neck Problems, Clean Water Sources, Progesterone Supplements, Coffee Enemas vs. Detox (HouseCall)
Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let's get started! Carla: Hi Dr. Cabral, I have a question about these small (1/16th to 1/8th inch), flat topped, skin coloured, bumps on the back of my hands. I've had them since early spring and I've been to my naturopath about them, but they are persistent and don't seem to be responding to treatment. He said they were a virus of some sort and recommended putting tea tree oil on them. When I first started the tea tree oil they seemed to respond by bringing larger painful ones to the surface (they are not normally painful). But after that they have seemed to stop responding and come and go as they please, sometimes lasting for months. The painful ones are gone and now they are just skin coloured bumps again. They are staying on the backs of my hands, with one or two by the wrist or first joint of finger. I've minimized tea tree oil use as it's made my skin raw and picking them off just makes them grow back. I've spent hours trying to find similar photos online of this condition but have had no luck. I was thinking they could be from weightlifting gloves I wear at the gym, although I stopped wearing them after they started. Any suggestions on treating this would be much appreciated, thank you! Carla Jen: Hi Dr. Cabral My question is regarding my neck. It seems to go out a lot and I have to go to the Chiropractor on a regular basis. Sometimes its as simple as reaching for something, that seems to put it out. When I asked my Chiropractor, he said that stress can cause the same ones to go out. On my last visit, he found that my Atlas and L-2 were out, which was causing horrible headaches. I really want to do my weight workout but I'm afraid of pulling my neck out of place again from lifting the weights to do bicep curls or fly's. Do you know what might cause this to happen so often and is there any way to strengthen my neck to prevent this from continuing? Also, can you give me any tips on proper stance when doing bicep curls so that I prevent injury? Much appreciate any advise. Thank you Jen Donna: Thank You Dr. Cabral for all you do to help people live healthy! I listened to Episode 286 on water filters. We have well water a long with a water softener using salt pellets. We do use the counter top Berky for drinking water. Is the water softener & salt pellets a problem and if so, what do you suggest? Do you recommend Berky shower head, Culligan, or Aqua Bliss for well water? Also, we will be going out of state for vacation, what do you recommend for our family for clean water? What about a water filtered bottle and what kind/brand? Thank You, Donna C. Donna: Dr. Cabral, I am 51 year young lady and a friend strongly suggests I take Jon Lee's ProgesterAll natural balance progesterone cream. She says it prevents cancer, osteoporosis, and balances hormones. My Chiropractor/nutritionist says the product is good but doesn't see the need for me to take it now and I don't know of any symptoms that would show I do or what they would be. He wants me to continue to eat healthy, exercise, and think well. What do you say and are we ideally not suppose to need this at any point in age? Also, are you familiar with the Eat Well, Move Well, Think Well Lifestyle Wellness Corp. certification through James Chestnut? There are not many wellness Drs. in the US with that certification but I was able to take the course through my Drs. (being the only two Drs. in MO) and it's really been helpful. Respectfully, Donna C. Nikki: Anonymous question: I do a coffee enema 2-3 times per week. Is there a need for any other type of detox? Thanks for the info! Thank you for tuning into this weekend's Cabral HouseCalls and be sure to check back tomorrow for our Mindset & Motivation Monday show to get your week started off right! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/709 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral
Ep 708708: Leaky Gut Food Test, Rosacea/Raynauds, Wrist Test, Cervical Issues, Bulimia Recovery, Body Falls Asleep (HouseCall)
Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Anonymous: Hi Dr Cabral, I'm a long time listener and have used some of your tests and products. I truly appreciate everything you do. My question for you is about my recent food sensitivity test results. Out of the three levels of reactivity (high, moderate, mild), I was moderately high for dairy and moderate for 22 other foods, such as nuts, gluten, green beans, peas, soy, coconut, and eggs. This seems like a lot of foods to have a sensitivity to so I'm wondering if I should do your SIBO/Candida protocol a 2nd time (did it earlier this year) in case I have SIBO/Candida issues again or if I have to just omit these foods for a while to give my body a rest. As always, appreciate any insights you can share on how best to move forward. Zoe: hi Dr Cabral, another question for you to kindly answer - i wondered if you had any thoughts how to manage a combination of rosacea and rayneuds (as, they appear to me, to be equal and opposites) - ie what is good for rayneuds - like saunas, keeping warm, spices - is bad for rosacea. Thanks, as always. Zoe Jenmarie: Hi Dr. Cabral, I am trying to figure out my body type and what diet works best for my body type. I am 5'6" weigh about 135 lbs, my shoulders are as wide as my hips, Smaller breasts, long neck, and If I put my middle finger and thumb around my wrist, my thumb overlaps my middle finger. Can you tell me what body type this is and recommend what diet I can benefit from the best? I am training for a marathon as well so I want to feel and look my best. Thank you so much for all your advise. Jenmarie Jenett: Hello Dr. Cabral, Over the past month, I have been feeling increasingly fatigued, have had a lot of headaches, neck pain and overall weakness. I had blood work done and found I am low on Iron but I've been taking it for a while now, with little improvement. I try to drink coffee to give me an alert boost but it doesn't help much. As much as I love coffee, it doesn't love me, as It never fails that I breakout after drinking it for more than once a week. Why is this, and what could all of these symptoms be a sign of? IS there a test I could run to determine what is going on? Many thanks, Jenett Kelly: Hello Dr. Cabral. I love your podcast and listen every day! I am a 31 year old female that has suffered from on-again/off-again bulimia since I was 15. The root of my bulimia has always been my desire to lose weight. I am VERY pear-shaped (medium sized on the top, very large in the hips, thighs, and butt) and have always been overweight despite infinite futile attempts, which always leads me back to bulimia. Two questions- FIRST QUESTION: Can you speak to why some women have such large bottom halfs? I have been taking DIM, Calcium D-Glucarate, adrenal support herbs, extremely clean vegan diet, as well as progesterone cream on days 14-28 of my cycle to try to balance out my hormones after blood tests revealed almost non-existent progesterone levels and average to above-average estradiol levels. SECOND QUESTION: What are the long term effects of bulimia? I have always suspected that my bulimia habit is working against my weight loss efforts due to an insulin rollercoaster. Thank you for your time! Katie: I love all the tips and education you share, thank you! My question is about what could cause areas of my body to "fall asleep" During a yoga flow? I know it typically has something to do with circulation but I'm moving and breathing yet seem to be the only one in my class that constantly has to come out of a pose to "shake" the tingling feeling in my legs, arms & back. I've asked a couple of my teachers and mentioned it to other students and they were confused - like they'd never heard of that before. It happens a lot when I sleep, too, but that seems more normal. Is this an indication of a problem that the "google dr" just doesn't know about? Ep 706706: My 3x20 Weekly Workout Formula (TT)
Somwtimes exercise can seem more like a chore than a fun and invigorating time in your day where you get to move, sweat, and release some stress... Because of this I make sure to add one "fun workout" per week where I break it down into 3 parts, which also makes the time fly by! Ep 705705: The Truth Behind Your 3 Main Meals Per Day (WW)
Did you know that it's only been over the past 100 years or so that we've followed what we now consider to be a "normal" breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Somehow, we've been corrupted by corporate marketing agendas to get us to eat a certain way in order to over consume certain foods that they mass produce... The problem is that this style of eating is making us sick one bite at a time and since the progressions is so slow we never make the connection that our health issues stem from what we're eating (and when)... Ep 703703: The One Thing to Focus On to Achieve Your Goal (MM)
It's partly media driven and partly the society we've grown up in, but our conditioning has been so warped that we come to expect immediate results... And when we don't get results that week or maybe even the same day, we throw in the towel and give up on the plan we felt was going to get us the results we were searching for... The problem is that this type of thinking keeps us stuck in the proverbial quicksand always struggling to pull ourselves out of our current situation... Ep 702702: #1000, Dermatographia, Methamphetamine Detox, RA Food Test, Book Delay, Impetigo, Nutrition Book Recommendation (HouseCall)
Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let's get started! Alexis: Hi Dr Cabral, I am slowly working my way through your podcast and have to say that they are life changing. They have actually replaced my music while I work out. I learn so much each time. I am needing some guidance on where to begin. I am wanting to have some of your functional lab test performed at the beginning of the year but not sure which one to start with. I live a healthy lifestyle, work out 6 days a week with weights and hiit/Tabata, rarely eat out and buy all organic. The time I go to bed I am learning is far to late (between 12-1 am). I have been having odd issues creep up over the last 2 years. I have developed a skin disorder called dermatographia, also called skin writing. Basically when I scratch an itch it gets really red and swells. I also have high cortisol levels (24 in the morning and around 21 at 5pm). My cortisol binding globulin is also high. I struggle with anxiety and have all my life. My fasting glucose is also a little high (around 100); however my a1c is normal at 5.1. Lastly, I have a sore in my nose that I cannot get to heal. My initial thought was pre diabetes, but I am not overweight and with my a1c being normal, I am stumped as to what is going on. I am a 33 yr old female, 5'7", 133 lbs. any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much! Lance: Hi Dr, I work with people who have long-term illegal drug use in their past. My clients are in early recovery and I firmly believe that nutritional changes can prevent more negative consequences in their lives. I will be using your MM podcasts to uplift and help them set new goals for success. What type of nutritional changes would you initially suggest for people who have anywhere from 5 - 30 plus years of Methamphetamine use? Denise: I have RA that I am trying to control with the AIP protrocal but after 2 years of this I am still having problems. If I try the FOOD sensitivity test would it show much when I have been on such a restricted diet . I HAVE severe brain fog and some hand joint inflammation and bad hair loss. Do you or your team have any advice for me. I recently found your podcasts and love it. I hope you can help me. I HAVE SEEN 2 functional medicine doctors that did a lot of testing but it did not help much. I went to someone who reads energy and she did help some by adding sunflower oil that stopped the dehydration problem. Then adding B vitamin helped some brain dysfunction. Any help would be appreciated. SINCERELY DENISE Gary: Hi Dr. Cabral, My name is Gary from Philippines and I'm interested with your book - Rain Barrel Effect. Don't you have any paperback version of the book? I'm interested because I've believe in reversing ailments and my son was diagnosed with autism and I'm following GAPS diet for him and we're seeing improvements. Hope to hear from you. Regards, Gary 1,000th Question: Bree: Hi Dr. Cabral, My 3 year old son has had recurrent impetigo breakouts around his mouth. He was prescribed a topical antibiotic ointment which I put on the sores as soon as they start. It usually takes about 2 weeks for them to clear up. It just doesn't seem normal for him to be constantly getting these sores. There must be something wrong at a deeper level. He's generally healthy otherwise. No major health issues, typical 3 year old. He does have a terrible diet. He pretty much refuses to eat anything green. Sometimes I can get him to drink a smoothie but it has to be pretty mild for him to drink it...so mostly fruit and a bit of spinach. I'm thinking my next step is to get the sores cultured....ugh! What are your thoughts?? Thank you SO much!!! Kevin: Hi Dr. Cabral, I was wondering if you could provide me with 2 nutrition books that most impacted you? I am going in the nutrition/fitness field and crave to learn more about the topic. Ep 701701: Hair Falling Out, Travel to India, Afternoon Brain Fog, Swollen Lymph, Cell Food (HouseCall)
Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Marina: Dr. Cabral & Team, before I start I'd just like to thank you for everything you do! You are such an incredible human being and you have inspired me to pursue my education in the medical field to HEAL and not just mask symptoms. I listen to your podcast everyday and have learned so much over the past year, you truly as remarkable and I wish the best for you and your practice. I am a 21, going on 22 year old female living in Southern California. I am currently studying at the University of California Irvine after transferring from a CC. I tend to be a very stressed person, maybe due to my perfectionist type A personality. Aside from striving for perfection in school, I also strive for perfection in my health. Over the past 2 years I have struggled with my eating behavior and body views. Sometimes I binge eat and have just developed a disordered relationship with food. I workout 4-5 times a week because i genuinely love it and for the most part eat pretty healthy, except when I overindulge, which is typically in processed, sweet foods such as bread, cookies, ice cream, cake. I've learned a ton about health and nutrition from your podcast and have tried to include as many health foods possible in my diet, again, except for the times i overeat or binge. The past 3 months have been pretty stressful for me, starting at a new school, moving away from home, trying to figure out my career and school plans, and on top of that dealing with my disordered eating and body issues. I'm usually irregular when it comes to my menstrual cycle but since starting school, I have not gotten my period since August, it is now December (3-4 months). I used to have mild acne 2 years ago, it cleared up and now, over the past 2 months, my acne has come back, mildly but i get constant breakouts primarily on my chin area, sides of checks, and sometimes on my forehead. My hair has been falling out a lot lately! It even feels extremely thinner than before and i have developed mild dandruff. I know this must have to do with stress and maybe what Im eating. Stress about school, my eating and body issues, and how I appraise those stressors. Foods i eat such as dairy (4-5 eggs weekly), sometimes milk derived foods (cookies, cake, ice cream). I know this is a lot f information and I plan on working with you to help me heal once I have some extra cash. If you could direct me to certain podcast episodes or give me advice on any of these issues, I would seriously appreciate it so so much. Thank you again for all that you do and all that you provide for us, your works and efforts do NOT go unnoticed. -Marina Zoe: hi dr cabral, thank you for answering my previous wellness question - i am currently trying to take onboard your advice and make the necessary changes to my life and calm my nervous system down, eat a lower fat, higher carb diet and am looking to conduct some of the recommended tests soon. On a separate note, im thinking about going to India for 10 days - 2 weeks in the new year - id like to continue my wellness journey, and ive never been to india before - id like to learn about the culture, more of Ayurveda and perhaps the yoga and spiritual side. i realise that this is not strictly a wellness related question - but i wondered if you had any tips/suggestions where to go and what to do as its my first visit and id really appreciate your advice and your love of India and Ayurveda. Eventually id love to go to there for a longer stint, but right now, the max i can take is 2 weeks. Appreciate your thoughts as always, best, Zoe Tony: Hello Dr. Cabral, Thanks again for taking my question. As I write this I am about three weeks into the Cabral detox. In early November I spoke with Caitlin regarding my OAT and food sensitivity test results. I have been on point with the diet recommendations and the detox protocol. I decided to have testing done and do the detox to get to the root cause of Ménière's disease which I have had for about two years. Overall, I am feeling a lot better in the mornings and throughout most of the day. However, around three or 4 o'clock each afternoon, I experience brain fog. It feels as if my brain is fatigued and cannot keep up and I sometimes deal with a slight dizziness as well. My OAT shows that I have low VMA, high HVA, extremely high Quinolinic acid, and really low 5-HIAA. One of my chief concerns in my results was the possibility of neural excitotoxicity, because of the potential long-term effects of it. Since I am three going on four weeks into this and still feeling the brain fog and slight dizziness for a portion of the day I was wondering what your recommendations for me are at this point. As far as Meniere's cases in your practice, what is the average timetable for those who got better after addressing the
Ep 700700: "Unscientific" Research, MicroNutrient Highlight, Discover Your True North + Book Reviews (FR)
Welcome back to our #FridayReview where I share the best of the week in terms of all things wellness, weight loss, anti-aging, and healthy living! This week, I'll review the pile of books I read over New Year's, as well as what I'm currently studying more of and what I'm moving on from... Today I'm also going to reveal some disturbing trends going on in the reporting of "scientific studies" that show the true hidden nature of the AMA... And last, but certainly not least, each week going forward I'm going to be highlighting one of the "super hero" nutrients that your body needs to function at it's highest capacity... Ep 699699: Can You Lose Weight & Get Well Without Exercise?
I got my start in the health field by working in gyms and "cutting my teeth" by helping clients transform their bodies through exercise... However, what I quickly realized was that there wasn't a one-size-fits-all approach that I could use to template workouts no matter who walked through the door... This discovery then led me to be able to look at and treat each client as an individual that needed specific guidelines in order to make sure that their workout was customized based on their needs... Tune into today's #CabralConcept 699 to find out what I discovered in terms of whether or not you can lose weight and get well without doing any exercise at all - Enjoy the show! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/699 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral
Ep 698698: How to Lose 5 lbs in 7 Days (WW)
Losing weight has so much more to do than calories in versus calories out... Sure, in the short-term you can lose weight by depriving your body of fuel through food, but in the long term you want to be able to lose weight without damaging your metabolism... The reason I mention this is that I see too many people starving themselves of good quality nutrition and as a result their hormones begin to suffer, which then causes other health issues as a side effect... On today's #CabralConcept 698 I share with you how to lose 5 lbs in 7 days the healthy way without sacrificing future results - Enjoy the show! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/698 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral
Ep 697697: The Top 10 Toxic Side Effects of Sugar (TWT)
Although I love the Holidays, what I don't always enjoy is the dramatic amount of sugary foods at every turn... And although a treat every once and awhile is no big deal for most, the daily sugar intake many people unknowingly consume is literally dangerous... This is why beginning with awareness is the key to overcoming the health, weight gain, wellness, and aging issues associated with increased sugar consumption... Tune into today's #CabraConcept 697 to find out the 10 toxic side effects of sugar - Enjoy the show! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/697 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral
Ep 696696: How To Set New Year's Goals Without Getting Overwhelmed (MM)
The majority of people use the New Year to give themselves a fresh start and with that often times comes some form of goal setting... While I'm a huge proponent of setting goals I often see people in my practice get overwhelmed as to where to start and how many goals to set... And since the New Year should be a fun and exciting time (rather than one of anxiety) it's important to stay focused on what you can accomplish in the next few months... Tune into today's #CabralConcept 696 for the details on how to set New Year's goals without getting overwhelmed so you can have your best year yet - Enjoy the show! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/696 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral
Ep 695695: Snapping Hip Syndrome, Daily Nerve Pain, Body Looks Soft, Children's PANDAS/Tics, Detox & CBO Timing, Stool Results (HouseCall)
Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let's get started! Cristi: Dear Dr. Cabral, I am a fairly new listener to your program, and I have been slowly catching up on all of your past episodes as they are both fascinating and helpful. I am in my early 40s, live a healthy, busy (two kids, full time job) active lifestyle with daily exercise (yoga, weight training, interval training, stretching, foam rolling) and an anti inflammatory diet similar to what you recommend. My BMI is optimal. Recently I have been able to feel a tendon or something (maybe my IT band) snap over a bone in my hip. At first, I thought it was happening only as I walked up hill and up stairs, but now it is there as I walk as well. From what I researched, this seems to be "snapping hip syndrome." It doesn't hurt, but I do not want it to progress to a point where it does. I do not know what caused it--maybe jumping on a cheap rebounder or doing full range of motion squats with weight (though it wasn't much more than 60 pounds, and I know I used correct form). I went to a chiropractor a couple of times, and that may have started to help, but I had previously used up my other visits in the allotted 12 my insurance allows per year, so I could not continue. I tried to go to a PT, but they wanted a written "diagnosis" from a medical doctor before they would see me. It seems to make sense to avoid motions during which this occurs, but it occurs even walking! I do not want to cut down on my activity level, but I don't want this to progress. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you! Amber: I'm on several different medications. I've had three failed back surgeries. I have fusion in my lower back. I'm in pain everyday even with the medications I'm taking, also severe anxiety/panic attacks, and nerve pain down my left leg. I had a csf leak after second surgery which caused me to have a PICC Line in for three months. I had to hav Vancomyocin and Cephapine IV in high doses twice a day. That stuff was brutal. The medications I'm on is Dilaudid (2mg 3x day), Gabapentin (900mg 3x day), Klonopin (1mg 3x day), Zoloft (200mg 1x day), and Birth Control (1x day), plus they are currently adding Propanolol (10mg 3x day prn). I feel so sick and toxic inside every day. I've been in bed for three years straight except to get up to eat, shower, go to my appointments. I'm 28 now and hate feeling so sick and in terrible back pain. I was wondering how I could cut down on medications and what natural medications I can use. If I had the money to come see you, I would. I think one of my neighbors with chronic pain is going to fly from Tampa, FL to come see you. I'm on workers comp and living with my parents. I don't have any money coming in and can't work or even sit because of severe tailbone pain(which could be related to the metal rods and screws in my lower back). I would like to get that taken out, it's been a little over two years since fusion surgery. Anything you can suggest, even a back surgeon I can see for a second opinion would be great. I really appreciate the your time in reading this. I hope you can help. Btw- I do take your cbd oil. It helps me to sleep, and sometimes helps my anxiety. My pain management doctor wants me to start medical marijuana vapor as soon as he gets his license to prescribe it. Plus, after my emg, I'm going to try acupuncture (workers comp is starting to do more natural things. I've been through a lot. Over 250 nights in hospitals since January 2015. I could keep going and tell you more, but the most important aspects are written to you here. Again, thank you so much!!! Amber Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral, I am a 34yo female who is 5'4.5" weighing 120lbs. I have been lifting heavy weights about 4x per week where I alternate days of upper and lower body weight training. I also take a gentle yoga class on Wednesdays. My cardio has been inconsistent 30 minutes here and there of the stair master or an occasional hour long step class once a week. I have also been on a completely vegan diet for over a year with very limited amounts of soy and gluten. Although I am small in stature (size 0), I feel like I am too soft for the amount of heavy lifting I am doing. I really want to see more definition in my arms, legs and abs and change my shape. Do you have any recommendations on how I should change my weight/cardio routine and what foods I should eat to ensure I get enough protein for my goals? Is it possible to get the right kind of body building protein on lentils/beans and vegetables? Should I consider soy? I used to eat tons of chicken breasts, egg whites and Greek yogurt and I do notice that I don't have as much muscle definition but I wasn't healthy either and had major digestive issues. I am trying to find a balance and at a loss on what is the best diet for my health as well as physique. I appreciate
Ep 694694: Timing is Never Right, Gestational Diabetes, Sleep Apnea, Throat Clearing, Can't Warm Up, Strange Stool (HouseCall)
Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Alex: Hi Dr. Cabral, First of all, I find your knowledge and willingness to share said knowledge so refreshing. Simply put, what you say makes sense. My question is about your Candida protocol. I've specifically searched all of your podcasts for "Candida" and haven't found this question addressed, so I'm hoping I am not wasting your time. I asked for the Candida protocol for Christmas (yes, seriously) and I'm hoping to start it early January. I'm struggling with the fact that I have 1-2 trips booked every month next year for weddings or for other miscellaneous reasons. I know you've said you have an occasional "cheat meal" (pasta, a social glass of wine), but I'm wondering if doing this DURING the protocol will make it less effective. Should I wait to do it when I have no trips planned for 12 weeks? Just want to get the most benefit possible. Thanks! Josie: Hi Dr. C, I love your podcasts. I listen daily and I am an annoying voice in my family's ears about "Dr. Cabral says this... " 2 questions: My younger sister is 6 months pregnant and her blood sugar has been high and her dr is thinking gestational diebetes. She eats the standard American diet. Her normal activity level is low so we suggested maybe some light pregnancy yoga. Her doctor had not given her any suggested diet or even recommended foods to eat or not eat. I haven't heard any podcasts on gestational diebetes, but looked up episode 603 where you gave recommendations for type 2 diabetes- workout, blood sugar support supplement, and 2 cups of vegetables at meals. 1-Would you recommend the same for a prego? 2-What do you think about air fryers (for preganant and non-pregnant people)? Ceri: Hi Dr Cabral. I am a health coach and I have a question relating to a client. He is a 34 year old male who has sleep apnoea. He has had one surgery for this, though I don't know the exact details. History of high cholesterol (taking statins), non alcoholic fatty liver disease, pre-diabetic and issues with blood sugar. I have been working with him for 3 months to improve his diet/lifestyle and he has lost weight, now to 84kg and has noticed many improvements in his health and feeling better, but the sleep apnoea has not changed. He has had a repeat sleep study and their is no difference. He has big energy drops during the day and needs to nap in the afternoon. It is impacting his ability to work long days. I am unsure if this is something caused by a physical blockage of if there are other changes he can make to diet/lifestyle that will help. I would love your input. Kind Regards, Ceri Daniela: I am a big fan of the podcasts and have found the information to be very helpful and interesting. I'm hoping that you/your team can help with an issue I've had for years. I am constantly clearing my throat, even to the point of not realizing it. I know it's an issue, because sometimes my throat feels raw from the throat clearing. I don't have any health issues I'm aware of, so I don't know what could be causing this strange sensation. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Regards Daniela Jamie: Hi! This might be a really dumb question, but I can't really find an answer online! When I drink smoothies, I get really, really cold and it takes me hours to get warm again. I love to warm back up quickly in my little infrared sauna (the "tent" kind - my kids call it my spaceship.) However, when I am super cold going in to the sauna, I don't sweat much at all - not even close to the amount I sweat if I am already warm when I start (for example, if I do a sauna after I exercise, I sweat a ton!) So my question is this - am I still getting the detox/health/longevity benefits of the infrared sauna if I am so cold that I don't sweat much during the 30-min session, or are the health benefits pretty much solely related to the deep sweating?? Thanks so much! Kathy: Hello Dr. Cabral, No words can explain how thankful I am to have found your podcasts and references. Your care and concern for others is a blessing. Gonna try to state the facts in order and short as possible: Me: 51 y/o,no meds (used to take cholesterol meds but stopped 2014), full time Speech Pathologist in Nursing Home, weekend Server at restaurant; high cholesterol, always been active, since mid July: 30-60 min/day workouts (Beachbody member and use Shakeology daily; follow 21 day fix meal plan but choose bulk of my carbs through veggies, 6-8 hours sleep/night Problem: Weight loss from 151# to 130# from March to Current date -don't know if related to stool issues, gut issues or changes in eating habits. Ep 688688: Spinal Impingement, Xifaxan, Lyme, Cleansing During Candida Protocol, Missing Period, PANDAS (HouseCall)
Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let's get started! Donna: Dear Dr. Cabral, Over a year ago I was experiencing mild to strong feelings of weak sensations equally in my arms and legs. After many medical tests I found a Palmer Specific Chiropractor/Nutritionist. X-rays showed I had no curve in my upper cervical. Through a year of adjustments those sensations went away & a curve is taking shape in my upper cervical. Just this past week I am experiencing these symptoms again. I haven't yet addressed this to my chiropractor. It limits my workouts so I can't lift heavy or the sensations feel stronger. I am 51, at a good weight, exercise daily, paleo/good sourced foods, Your approved supplements, drink more than 1/2 my body weight in oz.of water. I have done the 7 day detox and 90 day cleanse. What are your thoughts? Respectfully & Thankful, Donna Will: Hi, Can I undergo the 7 day detox while on antibiotics ? (xifaxan) Same for the candida protocol, can I start while on xifaxan ? Thanks Vanessa: Hi Dr. Carbal, I have been battling Lyme Disease for numerous years and am always looking to learn more on nutrition and how to support my immune system. Can you recommend any books to read to continue learning? Thanks! Vanessa Will: Hi, Is the intestinal cleanse mandatory before beginning the candida protocol ? or can I just start with the candida protocol by itself ? Thanks Tori: Hello! First off I'm very interested in holistic medicine approaches to healing, and I was wondering if you had any advice for a particular problem I've been dealing with since coming to college. I am on the Division 1 Cross country and track team and always have had an irregular period since competitively running (essentially absent), however ever since I got mono in the spring of my freshman year (over 1.5 years ago) I have not gotten a natural period.I was on birth control for around 3 months, but t made me feel horrible! Ever since I still haven't gotten a period after those "placebo" ones. I just got my estrogen levels tested and they are undetectable on a scale of 19 pc/mg, meaning my levels are around a post menopausal woman if not lower. I'm really intent on trying to regain this vital cycle for my overall health, since it has caused discomforting symptoms for me, I'm just not exactly sure how! I've been trying to research foods and Supplements I can try, but I was wondering if you had any knowledgeable advice since this is somewhat within the realm of what you study! I'm so sorry for the long message! Lori: My son is 7 dx with PANDAS in oct , onset was September 7 however he did develop tics in January that subsided about 2 weeks after onset (given advair and singulair at the time). He had tonsils and adenoids out in July when one of his tonsils began to grow all of the sudden. Biopsy clear but did not culture the tonsil. He has been on antibiotics and anti vitals for about 6 weeks along with it d and Motrin for 2 weeks, charcoal, 5 htp, interfase plus, probiotics and fish oil. Topical cbd and frankenscence. He had elevated EBV/STREP pos ANA speckled at 640. He has made small gains with OCD and tics are gone. Still has rage , food avoidance, hallucinations and can't attend school due to separation anxiety and hand writing regression. I am wondering if he would have better healing with your gut protocol another Mom told me about? Please advise:) Thank you for tuning into this weekend's Cabral HouseCalls and be sure to check back tomorrow for our Mindset & Motivation Monday show to get your week started off right! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/688 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral - - -
Ep 687687: Normalizing Thyroid, IBD & Wilson's Temperature Syndrome, Cholesterol Levels, Multiple Symptoms, Brown Age Spots (HouseCall)
Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Kim: Hi Dr. Cabral - I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism at the age of 47, and have been taking Armour Thyroid medication for approximately 10 years. My levels go up and down and are checked every 6 months. My latest blood work showed: T4=1,0, T3=2.6, TSH =2.45. I have recently started listening to your podcasts (thankfully a friend told me about you)! I'm wondering what your opinion is about Hypothyroidism? It seems that every female I know around my age is diagnosed with it and put on medication! My hair has become so thin...it is scary! If my thyroid levels are "normal" while taking the Armour Thyroid medication, I'm wondering if the hair loss could be caused from the medication itself? I would love to be able to stop taking the medication, but do not know where to go from here and I"m hoping you can help point me in the right direction. My husband and I are using your Daily Nutritional Support powder , greens powder and Probiotic and love it! Thank you so much!!! Joan: My daughter has been very unwell for over 2 years with IBD and a strange symptom of an inability to warm herself, and consequently goes through a nightly routine of freezing and overheating. Blood tests are normal. I thought it could be Wilson's Temperature Syndrome but it can't be tested. Is this something you are familiar with? Do you think you could help her with this? Cara: Hi Dr. Cabral, As always, thank you for providing this House Call service. I share it with everyone! This question is for my husband. -At his annual physical/blood work his cholesterol went up 30 points. -His LDL is 130! His HDL is 73, Total is 276 and his Homocysteine level is 9.6 Note: we are having his blood work re-ran to make sure there wasn't an error because the lab didn't run his Thyroid panel or a couple of other panels the doctor had ordered. -We eat super clean - organic/farmers markets/lots of vegetables/pastured meats/maybe 6 beers a year/no processed sugars/low sugar in general -The only thing that has changed is that we switched out smoothies in the morning after having eggs every morning for probably a year. -We do saute our veggies in ghee or coconut oil which I always thought was healthy until you mentioned you prefer cooking in water and adding olive oil after. -My husband is 45 and does have the MTHFR gene mutation, I think it's homozygous. He has not been tested for COMT. -Doctor thinks this is genetic and provided a food list (although those foods are exactly what we eat). He recommended RYR Synergy to lower LDL - a red rice yeast and COQ10 mixture as well as Berberine Synergy. -My husband has never been one for cardio or weights, but he does go to an hour long yoga class 3 times a week. Some weeks only 1 time a week. I'm wondering if he needs to be incorporating weights and cardio. -He also did your 2 week detox before this blood work I'm thankful the doctor is functional medicine minded and did not recommend a statin, because no way would we go that route. SO, Dr. Cabral, what do we need to do here? In gratitude for your work every day! Tina: Dear Dr. Cabral: Thanks for your podcast! My friend and I love to listen and then get together to talk about your advice. You recently answered her question and we were so thrilled!!! I'd love to give you a little run down of my symptoms/ health history and see if you have any advice about which tests/ supplements you might recommend. I'm not sure how successful I will be in making this a "little" run down. I am a 30 year old female, 5'8'', 150 lbs, athletic build. I have weighed about the same for the past 10 years, though I have had varying degrees of fitness. When I was young, I had a history of stomach aches and stomach cramping that would come and go. I ate a poor diet high in refined sugars and processed foods. I was a very nervous, incredibly shy, excessively perfectionist, high strung kid. Starting in 7th grade, I experienced the beginnings of hyperhydrosis. I had extremely sweaty underarms.... I could easily sweat through two shirts and a sweatshirt, and nerves and social anxiety made this cycle worse. Also starting in 7th grade, I was highly active with swimming, dance, and tumbling. In high school, these continued, but as school got more difficult, I was perpetually sleep deprived.... going to bed around 11 and getting up around 5:00 to go to morning practices. In 7th grade, I experienced my first bout of extreme stomach flu.... which included vomiting over 100 times and ending up in the hospital for fluids and anti-vomiting medication. This extreme-stomach response was repeated in high school and in college. To this day, if I get a stomach flu or food poisoning, I vomit far more than the average person, though not as much as I used to. Toward the end of high school, my body sort of shut down

Ep 683683: Should You Snack Before Bed (The 1% Rule) (TWT)
Before posting on this specific topic, I decided to see what others may be reading on "Dr. Google" for this exact question... So I typed in, "should I snack before bed," and what I found for answers literally shocked me... Ep 681681: Low Progesterone Causes, Molluscum Contagiosum, Low Cost Sauna, Fat for Fuel, GI Issues (HouseCall)
Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let's get started! Taylor: Hello Dr Cabral, I've learned so much about hormones from your podcast and it has been so helpful. I clearly am showing signs of lower progesterone. Wondering what are the ways to boost these progesterone levels? Thanks! Taylor Kristine: Hello! My 11 year old was diagnosed with molluscum contagiosum rash. I've been told it is viral and we have to wait it out. It that it could take months and while we wait we run the risk of it spreading. Any suggestions on how to naturally clear this up quickly? Thank you!! Nikki: Looking into getting a portable infrared sauna. Only looking to spend a few hundred dollars as that's my price range. Can you recommend a cheaper version of the therasage? Also what should I be looking for ? Low emf? Thanks! Love your podcast! Listen everyday James: I would like to hear your thoughts on fat for fuel and getting your body to burn fat instead of glucose. Bill: Hi Dr. Cabral, I am 28 yrs old and for the last 5 years I've been battling all sorts of GI issues (bloating, gas, inflammation and spasms). I've had a battery of tests run (colonoscopy, endoscopy, food emptying study, breath test, MRI etc) and the results have all been normal (so frustrating!). Most recently I've been experiencing extremely uncomfortable spasms in my stomach, chest and back AFTER bowel movements. I thought bowel movements were supposed to provide relief ? I am very active, eat salads and fruits daily, but also drank alcohol heavily in college and suspect that might be coming back to haunt me. Doctors say I am extremely healthy but I feel horrible inside. Big fan of your show & thanks in advance! Ep 680680: Body Typing, Weight Loss Struggle, Colostrum, Toxic Work Environment, Portion Advice, Muscle Weakness (HouseCall)
Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Anonymous: I am having trouble figuring out my body types - kapha, pitta, vata, mesomorph, ectomorph and endomorph. Can you do a show helping us determine our body type or direct me to a show if one already exists? Roya: I need to lose weight. I've tried everything under the sun. I'm an athlete but after having my 2 boys it's been a struggle. I gain weight evenly all over so I'm proportional and curvy. I know I need to lose 20-30 lbs and I believe my body type is a mesomorph. Where do I start with your protocol? Please help! Mary: Thank you for all that you do. I very much enjoy your podcast and all the work that goes into making it. What are your thoughts on taking colostrum? Thank you! Mary: I have been working in a cadaver lab full time for around two years now. There are a lot of noxious chemicals around me at all times, in particular formaldehyde, which I am hovering over while dissecting and teaching. I feel like this is very detrimental for my health but will be in the lab for at least another half a year. Should I constantly be detoxing my body? I have recently been working with a functional medicine physician and have determined that I have hypothyroidism, low WBC (low IgG's), super low hormone levels with amenorrhea since getting off of birth control two years ago. I also transitioned off anxiety medications and adderol two years ago and the underlying anxiety and brain fog/low energy/ poor concentration returned. I also have stomach issues including chronic constipation and bloating. I suppose I would simply like your advise on where to start. For instance, if everything in your system is off unbalanced where do you start? Is it always healing the intestinal permeability first or would you detox heavy metals first? Thank you. P.S. Thank you for your amazing work and podcast. You are so inspiring and contribute to my continued drive to be a functional medicine physician some day. Thank you. Briana: Hello! I was wondering if being petite/short has anything to do with how much a shorter person should intake in terms of food, as well as exercise and if there was portion advice you could recommend. I am 5'2 and constantly struggle with appetite and keeping weight off. I am about to start your 7-day detox and am looking forward to restarting and moving towards a healthier lifestyle. Love your podcast and what you're doing! Best, Briana Gina: Hi Dr Cabral! Just want to thank you for all you do and your help in my daily life! My father was diagnosed with Myastenia Gravis and complains of muscle weakness and double vision along with eyelids dropping. He's a 65 year old in decent shape and it's making him crazy that he can barely brush his teeth without getting fatigued. He also takes medication for A-fib, a cholesterol med and an aspirin. I told him he should give up drinking alcohol and eat a better diet. Is there anything else you can tell me about the dis-ease or something I can help him with!? Thank you so much! Ep 678678: How to Maintain Your Results After a Detox, Cleanse or Long Fast (TT)
You'd be hard pressed to find a Functional Medicine Doctor that doesn't believe in supporting your body's natural ability to remove toxins like heavy metals, VOCs, excess hormone metabolites, etc... However, what often times happens is that life gets in the way after a detox or cleanse and you begin to slide back into previous habits that caused the dis-ease, weight gain, or general "unhealthiness" in the first place... Ep 677677: The "Protein Shake Diet" in The News (WW)
It finally looks like conventional medicine has seen the light when it comes to using "protein shakes," as a healthy part of a daily diet... It may have taken a few decades of consistent research for them to come around, but the results of adding in a smoothie or protein shake on a daily basis are hard to refute... There are dozens of reasons for this, but one in particular is that a protein shake "crowds out" other poor nutritional choices while fortifying your body with the vitamins, minerals, and amino acids it needs to rebuild... However, not all protein sources are created equal and on today's #CabralConcept 677 I'll share with you all the details of the "Protein Shake Diet" and what you should watch out for - Enjoy the show! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/677 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral

Ep 675675: How to Get Out of a Funk & Into a Flow State Today (MM)
The dictionary defines being in a "funk" as a state of depression or trying to avoid a task or thing out of fear... Simply put, I think we can all relate to being in a funk as feeling like you're stuck in quick sand and that no matter what you do you only seem to sink deeper into the hole you're in… Since none of us want to remain in this state, we need to be able to flip the switch whenever we want in order to get into a flow state where everything in life seems to move us effortlessly to our goals... Ep 674674: Fasted Cardio, Greens Drink Powder, No-No Thyroid Foods, Puffy Eyes, Healthy IVF, Period Cold Sores (HouseCall)
Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let's get started! Ellie: I am 20 years old and am very active. I'm wondering if I will lose muscle from fasted cardio? I lift quite a bit and am trying to lean out but not lose muscular progress. I do intermittent fasting and have been doing fasted cardio about 3 days per week. Will this diminish my muscles? Also, is fasted lifting okay to do? Thanks so much! Rachel: Hello Thank you for your advice! My question is what is the exact brand of the All-in-one greens drink? Where can I buy it? I have terrible digestive issues, would like to try it but am a bit apprehensive. Thank you! Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral, I am a 34yo female and I recently heard one of your podcasts on what an ideal TSH test result should look like. I was horrified to learn that the last 3+ doctors over the last 7+ years have brushed off my symptoms and my high TSH levels. Over 7 years ago I complained about feeling tired all the time, struggling with my weight, peeling brittle nails, and feeling so cold. I wear sweaters year round in central Texas! Over the last 3 years my TSH levels were 1.94, 3.69 and this year it is 2.85. I recently pulled my medical records at past doctors and my results were similar and not optimal based on what I learned from you. When my TSH was 3.69 last year, they finally said I was "border line". When I asked for natural recommendations from the nurse practitioner going over my blood work over the phone, she simply stated there wasn't anything I could do on my own and would have to take prescription medication for the rest of my life but the doctor wanted to retest and since it lowered some this year, no meds were prescribed which I didn't plan to take anyways. What do you recommend I do to get my tsh levels to optimal and feel normal? Also, I heard cruciferous foods and soy were a "no-no" for thyroid issues, is this true? Any suggestions you may have to feel better would be greatly appreciated. I do not want to take prescription chemical especially for the rest of my life. Catherine: Hi Dr. Cabral, I have been into healthy living for many years now and have thoroughly enjoyed your podcasts since finding them a couple of months ago. I have two symptoms that are puzzling to me even though I follow a healthy diet (not vegan but mostly real food, occasional meat), exercise and get sunshine, social connection and rest. I do have stress in my life from 3 kids ages 12, 9 and 5. I will be 45 years old next month. First, I have very puffy skin under my eyes and pressure behind the eyes. The puffiness does not go away during the day, it is pretty constant. I have tried natural eye drops, limiting salt, eye creams and massage, elevating my head while sleeping, etc. Nothing works. I would expect some puffiness with my age but it is extreme. Also I have a puzzling symptom.....whenever I am frightened by something or drop something I get a tingling sensation in my body, mainly my arms. It passes quickly but it is strange. Any insight you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Danielle: Hi! I've recently started listening to your podcast and find them fascinating. I am due to start a round of donor egg ivf in January and I wonder if there's a way I can prepare my body for it? I have severe endometriosis but minimal pain usually apart from around the time of an ivf cycle when the extra estrogen feeds the endo. Is there anything you would recommend food or supplements etc to help mitigate this but also help to increase chances of implantation and a successful pregnancy? I am already doing my best to eat healthily, cut back on caffeine, low alcohol & also taking a preconception multivitamin vitamin, vitamin d3 spray and Wobenzym for the endometriosis. Is there anything else you'd recommend? Thank you, Danielle Alix: Hello, I've noticed that a few days before I get my monthly period I start getting a sore throat. Then the day before I get cold sores. I've Googled this and it seems that many women are getting these symptoms but no doctors seem to have solutions. Any ways to stop both these symptoms would be greatly appreciated. Ep 673673: Sleep Soundly, Root Canals, Weak Digestion, Children's Iron & Calcium, Carbonated Water (HouseCall)
Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Sarah: Hello, I'm, wondering if you can help point me in the right direction, I have not been diagnosed with any health issues but I know my body is not supposed to function the way it does. I have had insomnia since for the past 14ish years - it goes up and down, but I mainly manage it to a level where I can function normally (obviously not a "normal" level of sleep) I wake often throughout the night and literally don't remember when I slept through the night, I find it difficult to fall asleep often and this whole cycle creates anxiety for me, as it affects my partner too. I have suffered from constipation since I was little (im 32), I feel like I am constantly bloated - no matter how clean I eat, sometimes only a little, sometimes painfully. I'm pretty sure I retain water and/or I am inflamed. I have a thick coating on my tongue. I move my body - mostly walking and yoga and I work in a physical job, I eat pretty well - mostly plants and wholefoods,I have been vegetarian for nearly 3 years, I will eat the occasional wild caught fish. I don't seem to do well with dairy or gluten. I am a natural worrier and stresser and I just know this is all related! There may be more going on inside that I can't see but I think it is all linked. My main issues are the digestions issues and insomnia, I don't have anything else major going on - but to me they are major! I don't think my body is absorbing any nutrients from the relatively clean diet I eat, when I get unhealthy cravings its generally carbs, chocolate or sweets. I know this is all a bit of a mish mash but just trying to give as much info as possible - If you have any tips/ideas/suggestions please let me know, I just want to sleep well and have my digestion working optimally - particularly for when I start a family. Stephanie: My question is about root canals. I had one done a year ago, after seeing a holistic dentist who thought I should have the procedure done, and have second guessed my decision wondering if I should of had the tooth pulled instead. I'm now considering having it removed and having a removable denture put in. Do you think most people would be better off having the root canal removed rather than leaving it in the mouth and risking disease? Thanks so much for answering! Jill: Hi Dr. Cabral, I am 38 year old female and an endomorph. A good friend of mine turned me on to your podcast several months ago, and I listen every morning. I appreciate your heart to share the knowledge you have and to see people get well. I have been on my own health journey for the past 7 years. In 2008, I lost 30 pounds using Weight Watchers. In 2010 I started having massive brain fog. I've had digestive issues most of my life. Through a naturopath, I found out I'm allergic to gluten and casein (and a few other things). I have cut both out of my diet (gluten gone as of the end of 2011; dairy gone as of 2013). In 2012, I lost an additional 20 pounds (through calorie counting and a workout plan of 5-6 days a week: 1.5 hours - 60 cardio (treadmill, no running); 30 weights) and was finally at my healthiest weight, still at the high end of my BMI. At the time, it felt like, in order to maintain that weight, I would have to count every calorie and work out hard 6 days a week (or more) for the rest of my life. Overall, I feel significantly better now than I did back in 2010, but I still deal with symptoms: brain fog, my brain feels swollen, fatigue, difficulty focusing/finding words (especially an hour or two after eating), mucus, digestion issues, depression, trouble losing weight. Throughout 2013, I gained back 10 pounds and held there. Toward the beginning of 2016, I gained 20 pounds "out of nowhere" (couldn't identify a cause) and couldn't get it to budge. I work from home often and could easily sleep 10-11 hours a night. Even so, some days, my body would shut down during the day, and I would take an hour nap … only to sleep 10-11 hours again the next night. At the beginning of this year, while monitored by a nutritionist, I did a 40-day juice fast: juice, water, ginger tea, and eventually I added bone broth in as well. During this fast, I felt amazing!!! I was reminded that I could feel vibrant and clear-headed and motivated and positive!!! Plus I would sleep 8-9 hours, wake up on my own and feel refreshed! I lost the 20 pounds and felt like myself again. For most of the fast, I felt like I never wanted to eat food again. As I started adding food back in (one food at a time), I started feeling "not-so-great" again. For a while, I had daily bms (which I have rarely had in my life), but that didn't last. When I ate food, I would feel sluggish. My nutritionist suggested perhaps my body can't handle fiber, so I've been on a low fiber diet (no raw veggies; only cooked). I have
