60s Batman At 60: Hi Diddle Riddle/Smack In The Middle

On January 12, 1966, ABC premiered the first episode of “BATMAN” starring Adam West, Burt Ward, Alan Napier, Frank Gorshin & Jill St. John. The program was a colorful, comedic and campy adaptation of the DC Comic which became on overnight phenomenon. With the show turning 60 years old today, I wanted to celebrate it and also do so in a more annotated way with factoids, history, research and fun statistics to tell the tale of the show rather than just a simple conversation about episodes. I’ve taken it on as a solo venture, though perhaps a guest may pop in for the future as though I’m climbing a building and a window pop open. I hope you share the love of this series or just enjoy hearing/learning more about it. I’d love to continue, but its a decent amount of work, so we’ll see how it goes. I had bigger production plans for this, but time/money/life weren’t going to permit my showman ship, but I wanted to get this up and going anyway. It is 2026 and once again time for that good ‘ol pretentious best films of 2025 discussion. 2025 delivered some straight all time bangers and plenty of interesting films to chew on and linger in your brain. The Night They Saved Christmas (1984) with Pres Maxson

As is tradition on The Brandon Peters Show during the holiday season, Pres Maxson joins me to discuss an off the wall Christmas Classic from yesteryear. Always announced at the end of The Summer Of series, this year it was ME who picked the film and not Pres. I chose a traditional watch in my house when I was a kid…and an oddball one at that – 1984’s ABC Thursday Night movie “The Night They Saved Christmas” which boasts a pretty big name cast both in front of and behind the camera. Pres is so shocked and taken with this one, you all are going to love his reaction and thoughts. The SOUL KILLER (2009) Episode with Kelly Chambers & Bob Canode

Since the inception of this program, one topic that has lingered on my list of “must do episodes” has been looking back on the 2009 film Soul Killer. This was the first film I worked on when I arrived in Los Angeles back in 2005. I literally lived there for 2 weeks and was working on a movie set. On that day I met his episode’s guest writer/director Bob Canode and star Kelly Chambers. I would go on to work on the film during multiple shoots either running sound or operating a boom mic. In a few scenes I did some background acting. Bob even made sure to kill me in one. I wanted to go back down memory lane with the two of them and recollect on the film, which is somewhat of an undiscovered treasure. The time was especially prescient to check this one off as they are currently in production on the sequel – Soul Killer 2 – as we speak. They share a little bit of what is happening with that production best they can. This was a joy to reconnect with the two of them and I hope you enjoy it. If you’d like me to trot down more of my past in episodes in the coming year, please shout it out on the socials or comment on the YouTube version. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return Wednesday with the Traditional Holiday Episode with Pres Maxson & “The Night They Saved Christmas” (1984) TECHNICAL INFORMATIONVocalsBrandon – Shure SM58-LC (Recorded with Zoom)Kelly – Laptop Microphone (Recorded with Zoom)Bob – Laptop Microphone (Recorded with Zoom) Post ProductionNCH Wavepad Masters Edition v8.38NCH MixPad Masters v5.22The Levelator 2 RUNTIME: 54 minutes

Film And TV Shows That Best Portrayed Their 1980s Setting with Troy Brownfield

Stranger Things 5 just premiered this past weekend. Netflix’s juggernaut was one that spearheaded a deluge of films and tv set in the 1980s. Troy Brownfield and I have long nit pickled at historical accuracies in pop culture the show likes to celebrate. With that in mind, we thought it would be a fun exercise to look back at more what the midwest 1980s was REALLY like in terms of what people were watching and listening to and then turn our efforts to see which film and television shows that set themselves in that era got it the most “right”. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return. Top 10 Scariest Doctor Who Stories…That Aren’t “Blink” with Taylor Deatherage

There has been a lot of Doctor Who related stuff on the show in one way or another this month of October (or “Doctober”), so I decided why not cap it off with a Halloween related Doctor Who episode. And horror is something The Doctor is no stranger to. One of the most well known, favorite and celebrated episodes in the show’s 62 year history is 2007’s “Blink” written by Steven Moffat. This one introduced the world to the Weeping Angels. It’s great television and the most obvious answer to the question of “What’s the scariest episode of Doctor Who”? My guest is someone I met almost a year ago, Taylor Deatherage, of Logan Arch, Chicago TARDIS and Alien Entertainment. I’ve been meaning to have Taylor on since we met and finally the time is here. For this Top 10 Scariest Episodes of Doctor Who…we’ve removed Blink as it’s just too much of a given. And we are doing this draft style so we aren’t crossing over. Also included are people from Doctoberfest 2025 giving their favorite scary Who story (That isn’t Blink). I had a BLAST recording with Taylor and putting this all together. I hope you enjoy listening to it just as much and share your own picks as well! -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return Monday (11/3) with my coverage of Doctoberfest 2025: Regenerate and the release of Fantastic! Tarkovsky’s Tales Part 8: The Sacrifice (1986) with Steven Warren Hill

Aw, the Tarkovsky’s Tales retrospective has come to an end. Unfortunately, Andrei Tarkovsky did not live much past the release of his final film, 1986’s The Sacrifice. He died from cancer as a result of the conditions of the area they film Stalker in. This film eerily enough showcases that he knew his time was up, be it the narrative of the film, the bookending of The Sacrifice with Ivan’s Childhood, or the constant handshakes he has with his previous film’s both visually and thematically. Steven Warren Hill is in tow for this one of course. I’m grateful to have had his time, knowledge and companionship on this journey through a filmmaker both of us love. And if you were a fan of this retrospective, Steven and I have another one already in the works for the near future. We appreciate your listens and watches. Is there anything you learned through this? A favorite Tarkovsky film? Did you watch along or discover a film through this? 15 Years of “Cigarette Girl” with Mike McCarthy, Cori Mattice & Wheat

Back in August I attended the Dead Formats VHS Convention in Indianapolis and met Memphis filmmaking legend Mike McCarthy. In November, he’ll be doing a 15th anniversary screening of his last feature film, 2009’s Cigarette Girl, and I wanted to bring him on to reflect on and celebrate this wonderful little dystopian science fiction film I recently discovered. Joining us for the conversation is the titular character – Cori Mattice (then Cori Dials) – as well as the cinematographer and editor, Wheat. We have a good conversation on the film and how it nails being low budget, high concept science fiction. Zepo Publishing’s “FANTASTIC!” Doctor Who Book with Nick Seidler

I’m very excited for the upcoming book “FANTASTIC! A Celebration of Fans Discovering Doctor Who”. Not just because I have an entry in it, but because I’m eager to read other fans’ similar and vastly different stories on finding the show and their suggested entry points for someone else to discover it. Zepo Publishing launched back in 2023 and their output has been directed at nothing but positivity and support in fandom communities. If you follow my Doctoberfest material, you’ve already met some of their authors and know about their first book “How To Celebrate Your Fandom”. You also met the creator of Zepo, Nick Seider, who joins me on this episode to take us behind the scenes of this book and lets you know how you can contribute to future books for Zepo Publishing, including announcing an upcoming 2nd Doctor Who book! -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return Monday (10/13) with filmmaker Mike McCarthy discussing his film Cigarette Girl turning 15. Verotika (2019) with Troy Brownfield

Wow – we are beginning Year 6 on this program. And with this one episode, this show is officially longer running than my previous one – Cult Cinema Cavalcade. With The Brandon Peters Show completing 5 years, that means Cult Cinema Cavalcade has been closed up for 5 years, but also started 10 years ago. I invited one of the recurring characters from that show, and staple of this one, Troy Brownfield, to reflect on that show and share a little on why it ended and reveal why exactly we have Glenn Danzig’s VEROTIKA as the movie topic. In addition, I share some untold stories/secrets of Cult Cinema Cavalcade that I hope fans of that program tuning in or that continued on with this one will enjoy. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return Monday (10/6) with Nick Seidler discussing Zepo Publishing and their latest book FANTASTIC! Tarkovsky’s Tales Part 7: Nostalghia (1983) & Voyage In Time (1983) with Steven Warren HIll

In this penultimate episode of the Tarkovsky’s Tales series, the auteur leaves his homeland of Russia to shoot his new film, Nostalghia, in Italy. Prior to shooting the film he directed a documentary that charted his location scouting for the film, entitled Voyage In Time. Steven and I discuss both films in this episode and dive into readings and appreciations of cinematography on a deeper level. Steven Warren Hill is by my side as co host for this series as always. When this retrospective picks up again in October we’ll be discussing Andrei Tarkovsky’s final film “The Sacrifice” from 1986. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return Monday (9/29) to kick off Year 6 with Glenn Danzig’s “Verotika” and special guest Troy Brownfield. Tarkovsky’s Tales Part 6: Stalker (1979) with Steven Warren HIll

Believe it or not, 1979’s Stalker is one of the earliest and most requested movies to be discussed on The Brandon Peters Show. This science fiction masterpiece from Andrei Tarkovsky was first requested from a listener during the third week of the show. I’ve also had multiple guests bring it up as one to discuss. Well, it’s all over now and Steven Warren Hill and I were in the “zone” with a fantastic deep dive for you. Steven Warren Hill once again joins me for this discussion. Dave Matthews Band: 20 Years Of Stand Up with Renae Lipsmeyer

I’m sidestepping The Summer of 2015 at 10 for an episode this week as I’ve been wanting to have a Dave Matthews Band discussion on this show for sometime now. If you didn’t already know, I have a superfandom in this realm having seen them 80 times now and loads of statistical knowledge and history in my head about them. Their 2005 album Stand Up turned 20 years old this summer and it’s proven a divisive one at times among the fandom. I couldn’t think of a better copilot for this journey back than Renae Lipsmeyer who produces and hosts The Space Between Podcast which focuses on fandom sharing their passion for the band. Renae has such a good, positive thinking head on her shoulders when approaching DMB that she is the PERFECT fit for The Brandon Peters Show. Forewarning, this discussion is possibly not new user friendly when it comes to DMB, but maybe it is and maybe it intrigues you to check some stuff out. Renae and I “Dive In” pretty hardcore into sharing our own tales as we look back at this album’s journey and the songs that made it what it is. I appreciate any of you checking it out and hopefully we will say “Hello Again” to more DMB episodes (and Renae!) in the future!
