B.rad Highlights #5: Animal-Based, Protein-Centric, Nutrient-Dense Diet Insights From Experts
Welcome to part five of the B.rad podcast highlight series! In this episode, we dive into the juicy, interesting, and possibly controversial topic of diet. You will hear quotes from some of my favorite guests and key moments over the years, focusing on my “meat and fruit” lifestyle—the animal-based, protein-centric, nutrient-dense eating style that I’ve honed through years of experimentation and immersion. We’ll revisit my first interview with Dr. Paul Saladino from 2019, when he was first starting to rise and drive the increasing popularity of the carnivore diet movement, plus hear compelling insights from other experts. If you want impactful, eye-opening quotes on diet, protein-centric eating, and the animal-based approach, this episode is a must-listen! TIMESTAMPS: Animal organs, nose to tail, are the most nutrient dense foods in the diet. [00:50] Plants are the backup foods. Michael Brandt: The Performance and Brain Benefits of Supplemental Ketones

Philip Pape: Building Muscle First To Lose Fat
I have a great discussion to share with you from Philip Pape, the host of the Wits and Weights podcast. I had the pleasure of joining him on his show, and he was a really sharp guy with some nice, focused, and quantified insights about how to lose excess body fat the right way. In this episode, you will hear us discuss the fitness industry, what he's doing, and the always popular topic of trying to drop excess body fat. Phillip stated what I believe to be a life changing insight about weight loss by saying: it all starts with strength training. You have to work on building muscle in order to succeed, even with dietary transition, because if you don't, you're going to fall into old habits—you're going to get hungry, you're going to want to chomp on something. As you will learn in this show, when you start working hard on strength and resistance training, you are going to have muscles actively taking glucose in from the bloodstream and replenishing the larger muscle, the more muscle mass that you build, as well as recovering from the workouts where you are burning glucose in the workout, burning glycogen, and then replenishing stored glycogen. What an interesting and very simple takeaway—that it's not just about locking in on your diet, watching your portion sizes, and all the things that we've been programmed for so long to think is the main starting point to getting the physique that you dream of. It starts with hard work and pumping the iron. We also have a fascinating conversation in the middle where we talk about this theme that I've talked about on the podcast often—the fully fueled approach to fitness and longevity, where you're eating more food, moving more frequently, recovering faster, and living longer. This topic came up as Phillip was describing a gaining phase that he goes through in his training where he's doing some strenuous workouts, the hypertrophy style workout, and deliberately and systematically consuming more calories over a sustained period of time, whether it's a month or six weeks. And during that time period, what a surprise!—he has more energy, he's more active, he’s tapping his foot more at his desk and feeling great and recovering and building muscle. So I think it's a nice reflection on the importance of fueling yourself with natural, nutrient dense food exclusively, and then getting to work and working those muscles. That is the path to not only getting off that stubborn, excess body fat that might have been sitting there even when you're doing hard work on your diet, but to opening a new portal and exposing yourself to new possibilities. Let’s talk about VO2 max—a laboratory cardiovascular performance test that began rising to prominence in the mainstream medical, fitness, and biohacking communities in the 2010’s as an excellent way to measure general cardiovascular health, disease risk, and longevity potential. Brad Kearns: Analyzing Shelby Houlihan Insights About Aerobic Base and Anaerobic Threshold Training
In this show, I break down and analyze comments from my recent interview with one of the greatest female middle distance runners in the world, the American record holder Shelby Houlihan. It was a pleasure to drive up to Flagstaff, Arizona to meet Shelby at her high altitude training camp as she prepares for her long awaited comeback after a ridiculous four year suspension for a very questionable doping violation. In our interview, which you can listen to here (or click below under "links"), we talked about the tragedy she experienced when she had her career taken from her right in the middle of her prime, right as she was getting ready for the Olympics—then having to sit for four years. You will learn about the nuances of how that whole incident went down and the injustice of the anti-doping system in the world of elite sports. Of course we have to keep these sports clean, but can there be room for some imperfections and some victims too? You will also hear about the many aspects of what it's like to be an elite athlete, how Shelby expanded her horizons and her competitive disposition to try to become a more well-balanced person by getting her master's degree in sports psychology, and much more. Shelby said such amazing, thoughtful comments during the interview, and I think so many of her comments are truly profound insights that will help you as you navigate the very difficult challenge of designing an optimal training program that balances stress and rest (and also keeping your ego in check) as you pursue ambitious competitive goals. These big picture insights are especially helpful now, as the biohacking scene is currently getting a little out of hand—focusing on a regimented, high-tech, glossy, glitzy approach towards pursuing longevity, instead of just covering the basics—and the Blue Zones movement is getting torched by The New York Times’ revelation of the manipulation behind their messaging and how they drew inaccurate conclusions from the data they gathered. It all comes down to basics and consistency, so this show will highlight important insights about Shelby’s approach, from details of her weekly training patterns to how she is deliberate about what she does to unwind and rest during the off competitive season, and how she generally balances the physiological impact training has on her body. [13:11] Developing that aerobic system so that the faster paced runs can become less stressful and less destructive is the only path to success. [17:51] Shelby trains three days a week then on the off days, she just runs. Her eight-mile runs are at an eight-minute pace. [21:13] If you go faster than your anaerobic threshold, your body would start to accumulate lactate faster than you can remove it. [23:12] Shelby has complete trust in her coach who allows for input and flexibility on the athlete’s side. Olympian Shelby Houlihan On Elite Training, Resiliency, Mindset, and Her 2025 Comeback

Brad Kearns: Insights On Testosterone, Libido, And Sexual Function

I’ve really been diving deep into research as I work on writing my new book about testosterone function and delaying the aging process, and I have already discovered so many compelling insights that I’ll be sharing some of them with you today. You will learn what it is about visceral fat that makes it so harmful to the body, and also why it becomes a slippery slope that is hard to escape once you add a little bit of this kind of fat to your body. Did you know belly fat is actually classified as an endocrine organ of its own because of the inflammatory chemicals it secretes? This also puts your system in a constant state of inflammation, which inhibits testosterone production and a whole host of other issues relating to metabolic health. And, this all leads to even more belly fat accumulation! And when you have too much belly fat, any testosterone your body is making (or receiving through supplementation) will actually be converted into estrogen. You’ll also learn about the connection between working out too much and libido levels and the importance of napping. Training yourself to unplug and actually shut your brain down is such an important practice to commit to making daily. Remember the goal is not to fall asleep but to rest and check out. If you have trouble falling asleep or feeling really rested, use a blindfold to help your body relax, and your mind will follow. I also share the Taoist theory that posits that (for males) orgasms deplete your essential life force and the importance of preserving them. The idea is to have sex frequently, but not ejaculate frequently. But interestingly, Taoists believe frequent orgasms have the opposite effect on females! [01:49] The first and foremost symptom of trouble is the spare tire. Belly fat is inflammatory and puts you in a state of chronic or systemic inflammation. [04:15] Surprisingly libido and testosterone do not have a direct relationship that we’ve always assumed. [08:09] Teach yourself how to relax, and then you will optimize your sexual health. [09:36] Taoism believes women should have as many orgasms as possible. This is the opposite for the male. [14:46] There are three energy sources: Qi, Shen, and Jing. [15:36] It is a much different story for females in the society of thousands of years ago. [16:32] It takes about 72 hours for sperm and seminal fluid to regenerate. [19:24] In modern society, the female is in a different role and can easily deplete her hormone balance. [21:41] The Taoists want males to withhold their orgasms frequently. [22:28] Science differs from the Taoist theory. Many studies talk about frequency of once a week as being the maximum. Mark Sisson: Born To Walk - Endurance Running is Unhealthy and a Walking-Oriented Lifestyle Is Essential For Health
I am joined by Mark Sisson for the wonderful occasion of a new book coming out—Born To Walk. Tune in to hear us talk all about the book, from the title to what made Mark realize that this story had to be told, what the research about running has actually revealed, and why running is, in many cases, antithetical to good health for a lot of people. You’ll hear us talk about the fascinating research we discovered that supports this idea that humans were born to walk, and while we are able to run (and can run occasionally as a result of walking a lot, sprinting once in a while, lifting heavy things, moving around and moving through space and time), we were not born to run metronomic eight-minute miles every day, day in and day out as some means to achieving some longevity goal or some health goal. As you will learn in this episode, the running boom of the last 50 years was built upon a House of Cards, and on the idea that humans are born to run. But, humans were not born to run—we were born to walk, and in this episode, you will find out why! The subcutaneous fat which is simply unpleasant and the visceral fat which is terribly harmful for your health. Brad Kearns: Longevity Science is Wrong - Don't Succumb to BS Commentary and Self-Limiting Beliefs
Let's talk about longevity and how the science can sometimes be BS. A listener recently shared a prominent news story with me that suggests that humanity is hitting the upper limit of life expectancy and that people will top out at a maximum age of around 87, 90 for women and 84 for men. To quote the lead study author, S.J. .Olshansky, professor of epidemiology and biostatistics at University of Illinois, Chicago: “We’re basically suggesting that as long as we live now is about as long as we're going to live, we're squeezing less and less life out of these life-extending technologies.” In this episode, I talk about why this is a great example of how science can be stupid, inapplicable, misinterpreted and misapplied. There are highly competent researchers doing great, important work, with likely highly reliable results, but we also know that this is not always the case. In the case of the Blue Zones, principal researchers admittedly took their liberties with the information about eating habits in order to advance their plant-based agenda. The ways that research relating to exercise physiology can often deliver distorted conclusions because of factors like the nature of the subjects, the duration of the study, and the failure to control confounding variables is something I’ve discussed on the show before, and while I agree that we’re not magically going to live longer because of amazing new drugs, a far more interesting discussion to me is how we are ruining our natural human lifespan potential in modern times. My personal view on this is that almost everyone has the potential to sail smoothly to 100, taking advantage of modern medical intervention when necessary, but mainly by simply not getting in our own way (and this even includes people that have been dealt a bad hand with genetics such as a family propensity for obesity, heart disease, cancer, and so forth). In this episode, I talk about some ways to not become a statistic and how to actualize your human potential by getting out of your way and doing some cool stuff too, and why the main emphasis must always be on health span, not lifespan. TIMESTAMPS: According to a recent article advances in medical technology and genetic research are not translating into lifespan overall. Are we really at a plateau? [00:51] The problem with these studies is that the scientists are looking at a population that is leading a very unhealthy lifestyle in general. [06:57] In any scientific study, there are many variables so one always needs to view the results accordingly. [11:08] You may have familial genes for predisposition for things like obesity, heart disease, cancer and so forth, but you need environmental influences to trigger those diseases. [12:07] Can we do anything to defy those statistics about how long we are going to live? [17:05] Sleep, rest, relaxation, recovery, and downtime are critically important. [21:45] Circadian rhythm is a number one concern, according to Dr. Kruse. Minimize the light in your home after dark. [23:47] Clean up your act. You cannot focus on longevity if you have crap in your life. This includes toxic relationships. [34:58] Look at your behavior patterns. Be positive. Envision your happy healthy life because you are taking control of your diet and exercise for sailing into the long future. [40:22] The media programs us to believe something that gets us to limit our thinking. [43:49] When you focus on plant-based eating, for whatever reason, it is high risk unless you also get nutrient-dense foods. We need protein. [46:35] Walking is the single most essential requirement for your health and longevity. Move frequently and take breaks from your work. [49:57] Sprinting added to your daily routine is very valuable. [59:56] Digital technology has played havoc on our social connections. Don’t put health and longevity on the back burner. Brad Kearns: 3 Tips For Young Career Aspirants (Be Like A Machine!)
If you want some career advice, this is the episode for you! A listener asked me about what I think about the resets…..fasting, keto, carbs, hormetic stressors, and vegan propaganda.. My knee-jerk reply was that we all need to step back and focus on the big picture. It's also important to never get frustrated, and to work hard to stay open minded and think critically instead of succumbing to the marketing hype and the controversy and confusion in the health game. It might be a great strategy to focus on self-experimentation. Be willing to experiment, measure results, and evaluate for future modification and refinement. I get into some of the Blue Zones talking points that can be described as propaganda and flat-out unsubstantiated (plant-based promotes longevity!), versus the most valuable takeaways for happiness and longevity (move more!) If you hear anyone spouting maxims like this, turn and run screaming in the opposite direction: "A cup of beans a day could add two to three years to your life.” Here's an awesome Blue Zones insight: "They're driven by life's meaning and purpose. They’re investing in family, keeping their minds engaged and there’s no existential stress of being worthless in life like so many Americans." Brad Kearns: Brad Is Now Taking Days Off - The Continued Evolution And Refinement Of Training
My recent focus sprinting and high jumping in masters track & field competition entails a completely different approach to training than the endurance protocol and endurance mindset. My former podcast guest Cynthia Monteleone (@fastover40 on Instagram) has been a big help recently for me to continue to evolve my approach and my mindset so I can thrive in track & field. In short, I've been applying endurance training principles to my high intensity peak performance goals and it's been hampering my performance and recovery. This is where you have to make the crucial shift in mindset to prioritize high intensity training. I reached out to Cynthia for more guidance because I'm getting annoyed at my frequent minor injuries that linger for too long. Immediately it became clear that I'm unwittingly trying to train disparate energy systems and it's too much for my body to handle. In this show, I'll describe how I'm evolving from "easy/recovery" days in the endurance paradigm to proper rest days for a sprinter/jumper. Remember, the aerobic system responds well to low intensity, consistency and volume. The anaerobic system responds well to high intensity, short duration, extensive rest, and low volume. I've also learned in recent years that the more specific and lofty your goals become, the more you have to narrow your focus. I can't pursue the disparate goals of Speedgolf and sprinting/jumping. Mike Scannell: The Mysterious Coaching Hero Of 2x Olympic Medalist Grant Fisher
Formerly anonymous Arizona high school running coach Mike Scannell has become a sensation in the American distance running community with the amazing success of his runner Grant Fisher, the undisputed king of American long distance running! Grant had a sensational Paris Olympic Games, winning bronze medals in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters. These are events where only a handful of Americans have ever won Olympic medals, ever! Brad Kearns: 5 Tips To Lose Excess Body Fat The Right Way
My friend sent me a recent DEXA scan report and was distraught about his body composition score. This is a lifelong athlete—excuse me—super-athlete, who has performed at the highest level in his sport for decades. After being sidelined by surgery, and perhaps some less scrutinized dietary choices, he drifted outside his familiar performance zone into the softy zone. If we all consistently deployed our vast knowledge to our lifestyle habits, we would all be kicking ass all the time. That’s not so easy, so we are often compelled to try and correct course. Sometimes, driven, focused, highly competitive types will get the urge to take desperate measures: “That’s it! It’s time for exhaustive workouts and prolonged fasting!” It’s also becoming a popular theme where “calorie deficit” is the end-all. This insight might be true in a vacuum, but we have to think about real-life variables, such as hormone optimization (especially for women), lifestyle factors including access to nutritious foods, psychological issues relating to food, the difficulty is accurately counting calories burned, the difficulty in accurately assessing what your body does with ingested calories, and so forth. If you want to lose excess body fat, know that while it is a complex challenge, it is actually completely possible to accomplish if you follow a sensible approach. In this episode, you will hear the five tips I suggested to my friend to get things headed in the right direction. Brad Kearns: Comprehensive Review Of Olympic Women's Track&Field Competition
Welcome back to Brad’s Olympic Track & Field wrap up! I hope you enjoyed the lengthy presentation summarizing the men’s events, and now it’s time for a show dedicated to the awesome performances of the females on the track and the field for the Paris 2024 Olympics. In the first show, I gave you a little bit of an overview about my fascination with Olympic Track & Field and I also mentioned something I talk about more in this episode, which is how great it is to see a sport where the males and females are equally represented in the categories of stardom and coverage—unlike some other sports that tend to exist in the shadow of the men’s games (like basketball). If you want to hear a comprehensive review of this year’s Olympic Women’s Track & Field Competition, this is the episode for you. TIMESTAMPS: This podcast looks at the women’s performances in the Paris Olympics from Brad’s perspective. [00:49] It is frustrating when the commentators talk about expectations of the outcomes of the races. [05:49] The 400 was a fantastic race. Marileidy Paulino, from the Dominican Republic, had one of the fastest runs of all times. [08:06] Depending on the race distance, the athlete learns a certain race pattern. [11:06] Many of the athletes commented that the construction of the track and the super spikes worn in Paris made a difference. [15:38] In some countries, if you are a number one world ranked athlete, you have a pass to be selected for your event before the Olympic trials. [18:40] Faith Kipyegon reigned for the third consecutive gold medal. Jessica Hull has been steadily taking down her time. [22:00] As usual the doping suspicions are always around. Now days these athletes are subject to random unannounced year-round drug testing for the officials. [24:32] Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet had an exciting finish. Sifan Hassan had an incredible race, went home, rested and came back to run in the marathon as well. [29:47] The 100-meter hurdles is always a very exciting race most often finishing in a photo finish. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone got the world’s record in the 400-meter hurdles. [35:27] The Steeplechase is dominated by the Africans on both male and female sides. The four by four brought the US team more medals. [44:12] The high jump saw records broken as expected. Yaroslava Mahuchikh from Ukraine was very proud to represent her country. [48:01] Pole vaulting found the two winners who shared the gold in the world championships meet head to head again, with Kennedy clearing the high bar this time. It is so great to see. [49:53] Long jumper Tara Davis Woodall from USA came away with the gold. Thea Lafond from Dominca won the gold in the triple jump.[50:29] Shot put, unfortunately we saw the very popular Chase Ealey get knocked out in the qualifying. US did get gold in the discus with Valerie Alman defending her world championship. [51:47] In the hammer throw, Cameron Rogers from Canada first, And the javelin was won by Kitaguchi from Japan. [52:55] In the Heptathlon, Shari Hawkins made her Olympic debut at age 33 but, unfortunately, she got knocked out of the competition. Belgium’s Nafissatou Thiam went home with the gold. [53:27] Mixed relay is a new event in the Olympics. The teams can choose what order they wanted to run their athletes in right when they first come out. I thought I would do a fun, different style show—Brad’s Olympic Track & Field summary wrap up show! Track is my passion and in this episode, I go over some of the highlights, great performances, and fun backstories from this year's Olympic Men's Track & Field Competition. Enjoy the show! [28:37] The human can only deliver a maximum effort for around seven seconds, and then at around 20 seconds you get overcome with lactic acid and you have to slow down further. [31:40] Sometimes a wind meter is involved to compute the records. [34:48] There is a significant advantage in drafting in the running races, not just Tour de France and swimming. Brad Kearns: Parenting Tips - Refraining From Praise, Being A Traffic Cop, And Keeping Your Ego In Check
I saw my friend the other day, asked “How are you doing?” and he said: “I’m trying to be a better parent.” What a cool answer! The quip alone speaks volumes about his desire to do the best he can, and his self-awareness as he makes his best effort to raise toddlers. We ended up having a whole conversation about parenting as he began self-reflecting and spoke about patterns from his own childhood, his desire to avoid undesirable ones and model favorable ones, and how his peers kept him in check with great effectiveness. I told him I’d email him my all-time favorite parenting article, “The Power (and Peril) of Praising Your Kids: How Not to Talk To Your Kids”, and share my favorite insights about parenting young ones, as my kids are now 26 and 24, and this conversation ended up being the inspiration for today’s episode. It doesn’t matter how old your kids are—there are great takeaways for all parents in this show (as well as prospective parents) about things like overparenting and the importance of observing cultural norms and perhaps choosing to do things your way, instead of merely following others, while still acknowledging that some circumstances require a very delicate balance (like “helping” your kids with their homework or college admission essays). I also discuss the idea that we actually have less influence than we think on our kids destiny, why it is more effective to praise the effort they make, rather than the results they receive, and the importance of realizing that while we do have a distinct ability to screw our kids up, their positives and successes will largely be self-directed. Sue McDonald: Shattering Masters Track&Field World Records The "Boring" Way

Brad Kearns: Rethinking Fasting In Favor Of "Perform And Recover"
If you are in the habit of fasting until noon or are having a 16-8 eating pattern, that puts you at risk.. This show is about second guessing fasting—something I’ve been talking about extensively for the last few years on this podcast, sharing the revised strategy I have been following: putting fasting aside in favor of striving for maximum nutrient density in my diet and maximum cellular energy status at all times with my new mantra for the future, for longevity, and for peak performance: perform, recover, perform, and recover. Because I want all of my stress capacity and energy going into athletic performance, my fitness regimen, and recovery as best as I possibly can, that means going for nutrition rather than tapping into the many strategies and techniques that can be categorized as restrictive dieting (keto, low-fat, carnivore, vegan, etc). Yes, fasting has been touted for many amazing health benefits and the body works most efficiently in a fasted state, but in this show, I explain why I decided to rethink fasting and revise my approach to my daily diet, and the results I have experienced from this change. TIMESTAMPS: The body works most effectively in a fasted state, however if you’re are restricting calories, you’re restricting macronutrients to the extent that it overwhelms your stress capacity. [00:46] When you develop leaking gut syndrome from eating processed foods, it is causing inflammatory conditions in the body. [05:22] The unfettered access of indulgent foods is difficult to navigate through and be resilient against. [07:30] If you start cutting back your total caloric intake, you are at risk of turning down important metabolic dials, reproduction, repair, growth and locomotion. [08:29] The most important start to improving your diet is cutting back on the refined industrial seed oils, refined grains, refined sugars and foods that are packaged. [14:25] Before you consider fasting strategy in the name of losing excess body fat, optimize your protein intake. [18:33] The government recommending a certain RDA, it is for survival, not optimization. You need a gram per pound protein every day on average to thrive. [20:19] During sleep both anabolic and catabolic processes are operating concurrently. [25:26] What are the incidental benefits of this focus on protein? [28:06] One rationale for fasting is gaining a sense of control and discipline but fasting is a stressful practice. [31:22] We want to make sure that we don’t overload the stress side of the equation in modern life. [36:00] It is important to have some calories before going out for peak performance work. Dr. Thais Gibson: Overcoming Self-Sabotage And Reprogramming Your Behaviors And Beliefs
I am so pleased to introduce a fantastically awesome show with Thais Gibson, creator of the Personal Development School! She sent me a very intriguing overview of what she might talk about on the show and I said, “Sure, let’s talk about it,” but I gotta tell you, I was blown away—this is one of my favorite shows I have ever had on the B.rad podcast! Listeners, I think this will be tremendously valuable and potentially life changing for you—I will say now that it will be for me, and I’m sure it helped that I unknowingly became the Guinea pig for a lot of the show. In this episode, you will hear essentially a live coaching call where Thais demonstrates her expertise and her methods on real life examples from me, Brad, especially my incongruence between my stated goals and my behavior patterns. We picked out the pursuit of wealth and financial security as something that I at times get frustrated by or feel deficient in, (perhaps because of subconscious patterns kicking in) and you will hear Thais explain the causes of self-sabotage and how to reprogram certain thoughts—which is especially interesting to hear once Thais explains that we are operating from our conscious mind three to five percent of the time! If you have been listening to the podcast a lot and you read and you educate yourself, your conscious mind may be doing really well, acquiring the knowledge and skills you need to succeed, but your subconscious “needs” still will come in and oftentimes interfere. TIMESTAMPS: People may not always be aware that they are self-sabotaging because it usually occurs at a subconscious level. [00:53] Your conscious mind is responsible for roughly 3 to 5 percent of all of your beliefs, thoughts, emotions, and actions or decisions. Your subconscious is responsible for 95 to 97 percent. [04:48] We all have subconscious personality needs. [07:54] Thais uses Brad as an example to unpack what needs it relates to. She asks first, what does he do in his spare time? [09:34] Where does he spend his money? What does he like to learn about? [12:10] Our subconscious mind is also the host of all of our limiting beliefs. [19:46] There is a tool for how to pull up what your limiting beliefs are. [21:42] We're scared of something that's hidden in the periphery at a subconscious level of mind [24:29] Reconditioning is a tool for reprogramming. [26:25] Thais identifies characteristics of people who have been in a relationship with a narcissist. [30:41] Look for the things that trigger you. Plan your limiting belief and use its opposite. [33:02] Step one: What is your core belief and its opposite? Step two: what are 10 memories to support? They can be recent memories, really old memories, doesn't matter. 10 memories to support this new idea about yourself. I am, in fact, good enough. Step three: listen back for 21 days. [34:17] When thinking about financial security, many people struggle with their subconscious as in feeling they don’t deserve it or some parts of society that have a distaste for the inequitable distribution of wealth. [43:10] There are seven areas of life that need attention. Career, financial, mental, emotional, spiritual, physical and relationship. To ignore one area, we will pay for it later. [52:45] What specific things or set of things are you going to do on a daily basis to reprogram? [59:13] So much futile energy and effort toward change without addressing these core issues is going to be tough. [10:30] Diet has become very controversial and confusing. The nourishment you put into your body will make or break your health and your longevity potential. [14:25] When you eat nutritious foods, they are highly satiating. [10:08] Proteins are the most important nutrient that we can obtain from our diet. [26:14] Carbohydrates play an important role in your energy, your calorie expenditure, and, in general, your ability to perform. Breather: Overtraining Symptoms Series - Evening Second Wind And Mood Disturbances
Welcome to the final episode in this series all about overtraining symptoms! We have already talked about symptoms like thirst, overheating, frequent urination, sodium/potassium imbalance, cortisol, digestion, menstruation, twitchy muscles, skin problems, sore throats, libido, cardiac symptoms, crash and burn patterns, insomnia, teeth grinding, and food cravings in previous shows, and in today's episode, we tackle the final symptoms of overtraining: mood disturbances and experiencing that “evening second wind.” While experiencing a second wind in the evening may seem wonderful, it is actually indicative of a larger problem since cortisol really should be dwindling to a circadian rhythm low at this time.
