Lara Adler, Break Through Weight Loss Resistance, Ways to Detox The Liver, Remove Toxins and Lose Weight KKP 57

Today, I am grateful to have here with me, Lara Adler, an Environmental Toxins Expert & Educator, a Certified Holistic Health Coach, and someone who is deeply passionate about changing the landscape of disease through addressing toxic exposures. Lara Adler has been on a mission to help allied health professionals better support their clients & patients they serve by addressing exposures to environmental chemicals. She also guides her students on how to seamlessly integrate this topic into their practices and to leverage their education to distinguish themselves in their fields. Lara has worked with thousands of practitioners in over 26 countries in her online programs to help them understand the links between chemicals in our daily lives and their links to chronic health conditions like metabolic disorders, thyroid disease, fertility, and behavioral problems in children. Through her flagship course, Talking Toxins, Lara gives health professionals like nutritionists, health coaches, ND’s, RN’s and chiropractors, as well as healthy-minded consumers a deep education on where these toxic exposures are happening, along with actionable steps to take. The goal is action, not overwhelm. In this episode, Lara Adler starts by discussing how our cell metabolism can be causing resistance to weight loss. Genetics can play a significant role in this resistance, as well as the pharmaceuticals you may be taking. Then, Lara explains all the toxins and chemicals we are introducing to our lives without even knowing. These toxins can be detrimental to our health. However, the good news is there are ways to rid your body of these chemicals. The easiest way to get started with detox is by visiting the sauna every single day. Lara also reveals other ways to rid our bodies of toxins and why this process doesn’t need to be overwhelming. Tune in! However, Lara never thought she would pursue anything professionally in the space. After eight years in another career, several people suggested she become a health coach. Lara got certified as a health coach. All of her clients were coming to her for weight loss advice. Some of Lara’s clients had terrific results, whereas others had no results at all. What was she missing? Lara dove into the literature around resistance to weight loss. Lara learned about chemicals that mess with our metabolism and cause resistance weight loss. [14:15] Why You May Have Resistance to Weight Loss Genetic differences may predispose you to specific health conditions. Whereas, other people may not manifest these health conditions. For instance, two people who are smokers can have very different outcomes. [15:20] About the PPAR Pathway When PPAR gets activated, it changes the programming of our fat cells that lead toward weight gain. Our cells increase their capacity for fat storage. PPAR can also increase our number of fat cells. It happens at a cellular level completely absent from diet and exercise. This is referred to as chemically induced weight gain. Chemicals can make us fat. Antidepressants cause weight gain – it is a well-established side effect. [19:15] Fasting with Toxins We are burning fat while fasting. Normally, we are dumping our toxins into our fat. When we start losing weight rapidly, the toxins are dumped into our bloodstream. Our liver has to try and keep up with this load. Unless your liver is working perfectly, your liver can still be overloaded. People who have undergone rapid weight loss have shown a thousandfold increase of toxins flooding their systems. People often will get so sick that their hair even falls out. We want to be careful when we are fasting or losing weight. Toxins will desperately search for fat. Your metabolism cannot get rid of toxins – they get recycled back into the system. The body will rebound by adding fat to house the toxins. [22:15] Ways to Support the Liver Anything that supports the liver will be your friend on this journey. Lara’s goal is to dial back the exposure and amp up what our body is getting rid of. We can do this by supporting the liver. Take activated charcoal – you need to know how to take a binder because it is a whole process. Sweat every day if you can in a sauna. Law enforcement is using sweat patches to see whether or not there are narcotics in someone’s system. Sweat works! Some toxins will exit through sweat rather than any other pathway. You can measure chemicals in urine, but there are still toxins under your skin. A detox should be done every single day. We just want to support this process in all of the ways possible. [30:20] Chemicals to Look Out For BPA or bisphenol A can be found in cash register receipts, canned foods, the lining of canned foods, hard plastic materials. They are not found in soft plastics. Marketing from these compani

Here is what you'll discover in this episode: What to do during your monthly cycle Foods that boost AMPK and help you feel better What to do if your are post menopausal How the thyroid can dysfunction when done wrong And so much more! . 🎓Want to become a keto and fasting pro? Ensure you aren’t working from a caloric deficit. This teaches your body that we are not starving it. This also helps you develop a healthy relationship with food; we have mechanisms in place that let us know “you’re full, stop eating”; it’s time to get in touch with this. It hastens the adaptation of your mitochondria to the new fuel source by boosting AMPK. AMP-activated protein kinase What AMPK does: Regulates energy metabolism Increases fat-burning Increases the utilization of glucose while blocking fat and cholesterol synthesis AMPK improves glucose uptake so it lowers your blood sugar, increases the burning of stored fat, and decreases your blood triglycerides. It decreases fat-related chronic inflammation, which means that it is targeting the inflammatory fat or the abdominal fat specifically. Abdominal fat has more inflammatory potential than fats in other parts of the body. http://www.lifeextension.com/magazine/2014/ss/ampk/page-01 , Make sure you’re eating the particular fats that boost AMPK (which builds fat-burning mitochondria) 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil each day Hesperidin (a compound found in citrus peels), green tea extract, bilberry extract, can also help activate AMPK. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4980534/ Exercise helps deplete ATP stores and activate AMPK. Get in your HIIT workouts or long walks Cold exposure increases AMPK by promoting fat burning, mitochondrial biogenesis, and hypothalamic desire to eat https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1464170/ α-Lipoic acid (ALA) activates AMPK in muscles and other tissues https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16236247?dopt=Abstract&holding=npg Similar patterns can be found in AMPK boosting foods as well Credit to Sim Land (https://www.siimland.co/ ) EGCG from green tea promotes fat burning and AMPK[xxvii]. The same effect is probably true with coffee Berberine or Berberis vulgaris lowers insulin and blood sugar almost as effectively as Metformin[xxviii] Curcumin, ginger, and cinnamon lower inflammation and improve glucose metabolism[xxix] Resveratrol from red grapes, dark berries, cherries, or red wine promote AMPK as well as sirtuins[xxx] Different compounds like bitter melon extract, ginseng, rooibos, quercetins, extra virgin olive oil, Astragalus[xxxi] Apple cider vinegar lowers blood sugar and stimulates autophagy Vitamins and minerals like creatine, zinc, DHA, EPA, CoQ10, and other fat-soluble vitamins The Ketogenic Diet supports AMPK because carbohydrate restriction signals lower levels of energy in the system thus raising AMPK levels Number 2: Master your stress by practicing love and gratitude Two of the biggest healers we have in this world are love and gratitude. Hatefulness and resentment are two of the biggest destroyers. We cannot heal a body we hate. Practice self love. Look in the mirror and say “thank you I love you” 10 times in a row. Practice gratitude. Grounding Meditation Feeling the day instead of swiping the day. Empire State building state. Number 3: EAT FOR YOUR CYCLE Hormones will become tanked. Dr. Mindy Pelz shared her story about this. When progesterone gets low, you experience more anxiety and stress. A women’s cycle goes anywhere from 28-30 day cycles. From day 1 to day 14 women make a little bit of estrogen and very little progesterone, but once they ovulate then thats when those hormones kick in and the body needs to have certain foods to make specifically progesterone is the anti stress hormone. So what are those foods? They are NOT keto foods. They are beans, tropical fruits, citrus fruits, white potatoes, squash, and wild rice. On day 14 start thinking about not fasting and keto as much, shift to eating those healthy carbs. Where it really becomes crucial is at day 21, about 1 week before the cycle. Don’t do a water fast, flex out of keto and focus on eating those foods. Once your cycle starts its so easy to do keto and fasting, and it helps with cramping. The body craves these carbohydrates because its telling you something! Progesterone will shed the uterine lining. O

Dr Benjamin Bikman, Foods That Help Lower Insulin, Cortisol Effects on The Body, Fasted Exercise: KKP 54

Today we have Dr. Benjamin Bikman on the Keto Kamp Podcast. Dr. Bikman is a biomedical scientist, professor, and expert on insulin resistance. Dr. Benjamin Bikman studies diabetes and obesity, and much of what he focuses on is a seemingly obscure condition called insulin resistance. But it’s, in fact, not very obscure at all. Half of all adults in the U.S. have insulin resistance. That means you could have it too, and you don’t know it. What is insulin resistance? Why did Dr. Benjamin Bikman devote his career to studying something like this? Well, insulin resistance is essentially two things. First of all, some cells in your body aren’t responding very well to the hormone insulin. Second, you have more insulin than you did before, a condition called hyperinsulinemia. Insulin resistance is at the root of virtually every chronic disease. If we go through the chronic diseases that are killing us today, things like Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, and certain cancers, what they all have in common is insulin resistance. To varying degrees, insulin resistance is either causing the problem or making it worse. In this episode, Dr. Bikman and I talk about what inspired him to dedicate his life to researching insulin resistance. First, Dr. Bikman reveals the correlation between air pollution and diabetes. Plus, Dr. Bikman explains how insulin is related to almost every single chronic disease out there. He also describes what type of things you should be eating if your glucose levels are high and what to eat if you are metabolically flexible. Tune in! Sign up for the Keto Kamp Academy [08:45] How Dr. Bikman Chose His Profession Bikman realized he has always been fascinated with how the body was affected by exercise. One day, he saw an article in the newspaper about how fat cells secrete hormones. At the time, we only knew about one protein that was emitted from fat cells. Bikman’s graduate thesis focused on obesity. Then, Dr. Bikman did post-doctoral work on insulin resistance. Currently, he has his own lab at BYU and continues to focus on insulin. “I get paid to be curious.” [12:50] The Correlation Between Air Pollution and Diabetes The correlational evidence is so keen; it warrants further scrutiny. You can take the smallest particles from diesel exhaust – and one week of rodents inhaling the particles - they’re insulin resistance has doubled. It puts in perspective the heavily industrialized countries like India and China. Plus, they are the countries with the most diabetics. Might part of it be the profound air pollution? Runners should get a mask filter if they are living in a heavily polluted area. [18:45] Focusing on Insulin Bikman focuses on insulin because the more he learns about obesity, the more the finger points at insulin. Once Dr. Bikman started teaching a class about disease, the more he realized how insulin is part of almost every chronic disease. Inadvertently, he created an insulin resistance class. After every disease topic, Dr. Bikman puts in a lesson about insulin resistance at the end – it’s involved in almost every disease. Lifestyle is a tremendous part of fixing the problem of insulin. [24:10] The Ongoing Focus on Glucose Historically, the most common manifestation of diabetes is a high level of glucose. The kidney cannot absorb high levels of glucose, so the person has to urinate a lot. This common feature of diabetes is a consequence of high glucose levels. Today, we know that insulin starts to change decades before the glucose begins to change. By continuing to focus on the glucose, we are focusing on a symptom instead of a root cause. As the person becomes insulin resistance, it’s enough to keep the glucose in check. Eventually, a person stops producing insulin and becomes deficient. Now, the glucose is no longer in check. By focusing on glucose, it’s a wonderful way to sell a lot of insulin. [27:15] What to Eat if You Are Struggling With Glucose Levels There is an incredibly rational strategy to deal with glucose levels – cutting carbs. [32:55] What to Eat When You Are Metabolically Flexible A healthy person can push the glucose out into their cells very well. In a fasted state, they will use fat for fuel. Some people are trying to burn glucose all the time. When you go to a fasted state, they do not make the dramatic shift – they stay in sugar burning mode. Imagine a semi-truck with fuel hooked on to its back. There’s the massive fuel tank, and the small tank tucked into the cab. The small tank is being used as its fuel source; every few hours, they stop and fill it up. However, it carries around a massive reservoir of fuel that it can never use. We have a finite amount of stored glucose – this is a tank that some people only tap into. If we can allow a metabolic shift, we can tap into the fat tank. If we are burning sugar, it’s because insulin is high. If someone is insulin resistance, it can take 48 hours of fasting to get those levels down. Metabolic flexibility i

5 Things All Keto Beginners Must Know! | Non-Scale Victories, Hair Loss, Electrolyte Deficiencies, Bile, & More! – Ben Azadi: KKP 53

On episode 53 of The Keto Kamp Podcast we discuss 5 Things Every Keto Beginner MUST Know. Here is what you'll discover in this episode: Why healthy bile is key to digesting fat and removing toxins Why people lose hair on keto, and what to do about it How to determine if keto is working The importance of replenishing electrolytes A bonus tip which ties this altogether And so much more! . 🎓Want to become a keto and fasting pro? Join the BRAND NEW Keto Kamp Academy today: http://www.ketokampacademy.com . ▸ [FREE] 🔥E-BOOK: "The Keto Kickstart Guide: 4 Steps to Burning Fat Instead of Sugar" | http://www.ketokickstartguide.com . This episode is sponsored by my favorite coffee beans, Purity Coffee. Click here to get your bag of Purity Coffee, use the coupon code ketokamp for 10% off. . 1: Healthy bile is VERY important. Bile, which is produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder, is a green substance that acts as a detergent to break down fat. Bile also helps to remove toxins. Ginger and Ginger Tea Dandelion and tea Coffee Cranberries Arugula Dark Chocolate If you don’t have a gallbladder, click the link above here to learn how to do keto without a gallbladder. It can be done! 2: Don’t focus on weight loss, focus instead on health. The truth is, nobody has a weight problem. When I was obese weighing 80 pounds more than I do today, I did not have a weight problem. I had a weight symptom! The real problem was my hormones and cellular inflammation. The number on the scale is a poor indicator of whether or not something is working. I understand you want to hit your goal weight, I’ve been there. Instead, take photos (front, side, back) along with weight and measurements. (Blood work too) and then take those again every 7 weeks. Sometimes fat gets pulled from the liver and other organs first. Non-scale victories (energy, confidence, clothes, sleep, skin, inflammation) Keep following your healthy keto lifestyle, the inflammation will go down and you will get the results you want. Stick and stay its bound to pay Faith and fear quote 3: Not all keto diets are the same. Keto is not technically a diet, its a metabolic state. Its been around since humans have been around. This means, keto is not a fad, its a fact! With that being said, there’s certain foods that prevent ketosis, or allow ketosis. I’ll break it all down here for you…. Going to Mcdonalds or any other fast food restaurant, getting a burger without the bun and saying #keto, is NOT going to get you the results you want. Avoid the vegetable oils and bad artificial sweeteners (even pasteurized dairy can be an issue for most) Have healthy oils and the right sweeteners in moderation Monk fruit Pure stevia Sugar alcohols swerve 4: Replenishing your electrolytes are a MUST You lose a ton of water weight when you transition from burning sugar to burning fat. The kidneys dump water along with it. Replenish with high quality sea salt, especially if you drink coffee (add it to your coffee) 5: You might feel worse before you feel better (toxins) . When you start losing weight you may lose some hair. Fat soluble toxins get stored and can be released into the bloodstream. This is where bitters mentioned earlier come into play. I also recommend a supplement called BIND, take this before bed. BIND acts as a catchers mitt to catch the big boys (heavy metals) and put them in the toiler. Hair loss may occur, this is common, the hair will grow back stronger and healthier. Weight loss is a stressful event. Weight loss is a shock to the system. Its anti survival. Hair grows in phases. Let the phase pass and the hair will come back. If the hair loss has occurred within the first few weeks, hold the course as it typically takes 3-5 months for the hair to come back thicker and stronger. There are certain nutrients you can give yourself to speed this up, and I’ll go over them a little later in this video. Just remember this, when stress hits your body, the body will take care of its vital organs but hair is not a priority. B-Complex vitamins (biotin is included in here) this helps to grow protein, and strengthen hair to make them thicken. Make sure you take a b-complex and not sure the biotin alone because this can create a functional deficiency. Trace Minerals. These are involved with enzymes that grow protein. Collagen is also great because their hair is made up of, well, collagen. Low stomach acid (not able to digest protein) could be why its not ending up in hair for growth. Use digest from systemic and apple cider vinegar tablets from paleo valley BONUS TIP: COMMUNITY IS KEY I’ve come to realize that our environment is more important than we think. Hang around 5 people who are unhealthy and unhappy, you’ll be the 6th person. Hang around other people committed to their healthy keto journey, and you’ll be the 6th person. At keto kamp we have created a phenomenal community in the keto kamp academy. In the academy you get the complete structure A-Z on keto, fasting, sleep, fat l

When to Eat Carbs For Fat Loss, Intermittent Fasting For Serious Weight Loss, With Jay Campbell: KKP 51

Today, I am blessed to have here with me, Jay Campbell, a best-selling author, podcast host, and champion male physique competitor. Jay is also the Founder of TOTRevolution.com and the globally recognized TOT Revolution and Optimized Life Podcasts. Both podcasts interview the top Optimization physicians and Subject Matter Experts who answer questions and provide their decades of experience to help Men and Women become fully optimized. Jay also created OptimizedForever, the world's #1 premium group for optimizing hormones and long term health. Jay is a champion male physique competitor who, along with his wife Monica co-founded FabFitOver40.com, the #1 site on the web for people who want high quality and scientifically backed information on staying fit above 40. Jay is also the Co-Owner of MonicaDiazTeam.com (with wife Monica)-a mega-production eXp Realty residential real estate team in Southern California. In this episode, Jay and I talk about what inspired him to enter the health and wellness space – Jay has always had a keen ability to understand the human body and the different physical talents people possess. First, Jay describes what consciousness means and speaks about his life-changing trip to Peru. Plus, Jay explains how to eliminate fear from our lives by understanding the law of attraction. He also describes the correlation between sleep, muscles, and longevity. Tune in! Join The Keto Kamp Academy today! http://www.ketokampacademy.com [08:50] How Jay Got Involved in the Health Space Jay recently came back from Peru – the energy completely transformed his being. Jay is blessed to observe the human figure and has always been able to see people’s athletic abilities. Even as a young child, Jay could see how high a person could jump or how fast they could run. Jay never got into the fitness game full-time until the last seven or eight years. He is continually learning and studying everything about health. At 40, he took his knowledge and continues to push it into mainstream media. When you become a creator, you end up creating so much that you don’t even observe all the things you have put out. “I’ve been blogging since 2003.” [14:00] About Consciousness It’s an awareness that we are energetic beings. If you could pull back our meat suits and look into our souls – you would see plasmatic electric energy. This could be in the form of an orb. Consciousness is understanding how much more we are than our physical bodies. Truthfully, life is happening fast, so consciousness is difficult to explain. Consciousness and awareness are interchangeable. People who are resistant to the idea of consciousness can still feel it. [17:00] About Jay’s Trip to Peru Jay has always been a man that is interested in the realms of understanding mankind’s true ancestry. Jay took massive amounts of videos while in Peru. It is one of those places that defies all logic and reasoning. You become exposed to energetic density – it brings you into a different experience. He hiked insanely beautiful and majestic peaks. He climbed 18,000 feet to the most spectacular view. Check it out on Jay’s Twitter. [27:00] Ways to Eliminate Fear From Our Lives The best way to eliminate fear is to understand quantum physics. Everything is conscious, alive, and has light in it. We are all beings of energy. The world is a gigantic construct of energy – the energy is infinite. Once you realize this, you know you will not die. When our bodies run out of time, our energy will never stop – it continues, evolves, and expands. Why would you do anything negative? When you speak, act, and think it should always be positive. Media, technology, and the internet want to create a victim culture. It is so easy to play the victim card. Part of being human is understanding that we make every decision in our lives. Do your best to put forward positive words, thoughts, and actions. Everyone knows the law of attraction – what you put out will come back to you. [32:30] The Correlation Between Muscle and Longevity Muscle is the most significant deterrent against all the diseases in aging. The more muscle you have in the body, the following things will happen: Burning calories more efficiently Less body fat Greater bone mineral density Makes you insulin sensitive The better you can eat carbs and get away with it [35:45] Women and Muscles Women never eat enough protein. They end up having spine issues as they get older because they stop producing calcium. A woman has to go to the gym and do resistant type training to strengthen the spine. Don’t think that building muscle means you will look like a bodybuilder. [39:15] How Sleep Affects our Muscles Jay always tells people that sleep is the number one most disturbing biological function that people experience. We are destroying our ability to sleep by having technology in our rooms. If you aren’t sleeping, then you have no control over your energy. Fat loss happens during sleep – it doesn’t happen at the gym. Sleep is more im

Movement Over Exercise, How to Find Purpose in Life, Gratefulness, With Jeremy Abramson : KKP 48

Today, I am lucky to have here with me, Jeremy Abramson, the founder of the E3 Lifestyle brand. Jeremy Abramson's purpose in life is to cultivate community and create a lifelong impact on people's lives. After moving his entire life to Florida, overcoming being homeless, and losing what at the time he considered his dream job, he founded E3 Lifestyle. The E3 Lifestyle brand combines Abramson's knowledge of the mind and body, with his passion for helping others. As the Chief Energy Officer, he is dedicated to helping others unleash their full potential. Abramson has received some of the most coveted certifications in the industry and studied alongside elite professionals like Wim Hof, Aubrey Marcus, Ben Greenfield, and Lewis Howes. Today, Abramson travels the world, optimizing the health and happiness of athletes, government officials, youth, and high-level CEO's. His customized training, performance, and mindset practices bring out the full capacity and productivity of his clients. The most recent aspect of E3 brings wellness directly into the workplace. He has been brought in as a speaker by brands like WeWork, Capital One, and Miami Made to implement his wellness training programs and inspirational speeches. As a philanthropist, he makes giving back a priority, talking to youth at several local nonprofit. In 2017, he partnered with Maison Fortuné Orphanage in Haiti and returned for a second trip the following year. As his business and digital following continue to build, his influence follows. In January 2019, he rolled out his first highly anticipated online program, CLIMB. The program aims to optimize your human experience through habit change and self-awareness. It has already been recognized as one of the most impactful coaching programs in the industry. In this episode, Jeremy and I talk about what has inspired him to start the E3 lifestyle. First, Jeremy reveals how to navigate our self-limiting beliefs. These thoughts we tell ourselves usually come from our childhood. Recognize when these thoughts happen, and think about why this is a story you are telling yourself. Plus, Jeremy explains how to tell your family and friends about the ketogenic diet – especially those people who may not be completely supportive. He also describes the Stand Up 2 Sitting movement and how Jeremey is starting his nonprofit next month. Tune in! The last few years have been Jeremy putting in the time and effort to become more knowledgeable and meet more people. This is just the beginning for Jeremy. [16:30] Navigating Self-Limiting Beliefs Mental health and mindset are kings. It is essential to step back and think about your childhood. Where did these self-limiting beliefs come from? We may not even be conscious of these thoughts we have been having. A typical example is your parents getting a divorce when you are nine years old. From that event, we start to tell ourselves so many different stories. We build perceptions, and we think they are the truth. People do not know they are capable of these great things. Build self-awareness as to why you are having these thoughts. Who are you spending your time with? If you are with people who are constantly complaining and bringing you down, that is what you are going to manifest. [22:25] Getting Out of the Victim Role Our struggles are part of our unique journeys. Adversity will manifest in our lives in some way. You will be able to connect on such a deep level with so many people. Find the silver lining – it’s all about perspective. [24:30] Family Who is Unsupportive of Keto Give them the opportunity to understand. Tell them why you are trying the lifestyle and ask if they will support you on the journey. A lot of the time, they will still think you are crazy. Prioritize yourself – so many times we will put other people first. Fill your cup up first. If you feel terrible every day, how are you going to show up for other people? Small changes will profoundly manifest into bigger ones. Consistency is king. Jeremy doesn’t train that hard. He just lives a balanced life. [30:30] Attitude and Enthusiasm Jeremy has always had a childlike joy with a goofy sense of humor. There have been times where Jeremy has gone through struggles. He handled it by keeping them to himself. He credits his optimism to his dad, his biggest hero. His Dad always preached gratitude from a young age. He started giving Jeremy gratitude stones. If they ever came across a problematic situation – Jeremy’s dad would remind him of how lucky they are. Always treat people with respect and kindness. Sometimes, Jeremy does not do a good job at this. However, he still works on bringing good vibes to a room. [40:00] Exercising on an Airplane Jeremy posted a video of

Benefits of Saturated Fat, Best Time For Carbs, Dangers of Vegetable Oils With Brian Peskin : KKP 45

Today, I am lucky to have here with me Prof. Brian Peskin, a world-leading scientist specializing in parent EFAs — termed PEOs — and their direct relationship to cardiovascular disease, cancer, and wound care (both traumatic and chronic). Brian has always had one goal – to help people — regardless of personal sacrifice. But despite his integrity, Brian has suffered a lot of criticism and even slander as a reward for his hard work. Brian is not alone. Many other health researchers have also spoken the truth and were chastised for it. Brian’s great genius is “connecting the dots” between established sciences that usually remain separated, and coupling his findings with real-life results. He combines theory with practicality in a very unique way. Even though Brian does not always take credit for the science he has studied – he is often only the messenger of the information already published in leading medical textbooks and medical journals — he has also been called a “quack. Brian attended the world’s leading engineering institution, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he studied highly complex mathematics, engineering and physics, along with probability and statistics. He has also studied biochemistry and physiology. Brian’s various fields of study give him a unique systems perspective when applied to health and nutrition. Electrical engineering is an exact science. In this episode, Brian and I talk about what inspired him to start scientifically looking at how foods affect our bodies. First, Brian reveals how his wife developed type 1 diabetes. Plus, Brian explains why we need to stop eating four to six times a day and the fact that we cannot physically overeat fat. He also describes the reasons why we should never consume fish oil. Tune in! Join The Keto Kamp Academy! Special offer for the first 100 members. Learn More: http://www.ketokampacademy.com [10:10] About Brian’s Wife Brian’s wife developed type 1 diabetes. Brian picked up a book to figure out what to do. He believes nobody, only science. Science says one thing, and society is doing the opposite. Brian says more people need to be writing the science. [12:50] You Never Build on the Past in Medicine In medicine, you don’t look into the past – it doesn’t exist; it all starts today. Medicine is looking at studies, not science. Studies are open to misinterpretation. Ask your doctor what the metabolic pathway that causes your health issue is. Pathways are science. If your doctor doesn’t know the pathway, then don’t believe a word they say. Brian uses science to talk about food. [17:30] Solving Type 1 Diabetes Brian could not bring back a pancreas. Stop eating 4-6 times a day; we are not meant to be a goat. People who don’t know what they are talking about are putting others on an awful path. The diabetes epidemic has to stop. [19:45] Stop Eating Every 2-3 Hours Brian has no idea why people think they need to eat every 2-3 hours. Carbs are sugars. You get just as much fat eating complex carbohydrates. The pancreas does not store insulin very well. If you eat six times a day, you blow your insulin reserve. The pancreas doesn’t know how to react to you eating so frequently. Eating every two to three hours came from the food industry. How much sugar is in your bloodstream? Less than a teaspoon. Brian double checked, and it still came back to one teaspoon. This is why exercise became a second job for some people, to burn off all the access sugar we are intaking. [24:30] One Teaspoon of Sugar If you eat carbs, you’ll be using the sugar when you exercise. However, you would rather your body burn the fat (unless you are running a marathon). Most people quit their training program because it doesn’t work, and they are being told the wrong thing from their trainer. [25:30] What Time to Cycle in Carbs Early morning is the best time to eat carbs. You don’t want to eat carbs at night because your blood sugar will stay high all night. For every ounce of carbohydrates you eat, you will need three ounces of water. If you eat the carbs at night, most likely, you are not doing that much activity. Make sure the carbs are good, get the bang for your buck. You can add carbs later in the day if you are going to stay active. If you eat carbs and you feel horrible, you’ve overeaten. [32:20] Eating Too Many Carbs Your body wants it back to normal, so it needs to get the sugars out of the body. Exercise your body to get rid of the sugar, or burn it by starving. Brian says he doesn’t want to store it to begin with. [34:00] Eating Fats and Protein to Excess Brian says you can’t overeat fat because your body physically won’t let you. Your appetite will eventually go away, and you will no longer want to eat anything else. To get no carbohydrates is virtually impossible. If you eat just fats and proteins, none of that protein is going to fat. 58% of a steak is water after it’s cooked. 70% of that steak is burned up in digestion. Most people don’t know this and have neve

Grounding: Reduce Inflammation, The Natural Blood Thinner | With Clint Ober : KKP 42

Welcome to the Keto Kamp Podcast Episode 42 with Clint Ober! Today, I am lucky to have here with me the CEO of EarthFX Inc. author, and someone who is continually working to spread awareness about grounding, Clint Ober. Clinton Ober is CEO of EarthFX Inc., a research and development company located in Palm Springs. He first learned of grounding when marketing and installing Cable TV systems in Billings, Montana, in the early 1960s. A decade later, he formed Telecrafter Corporation and built it into the largest provider of cable installation services in the United States. This company specialized in the proper grounding of cable installations for safety and signal stability. Following a health challenge in 1995, he retired and embarked on a personal journey looking for a higher purpose in life. During his travels, he noticed people wearing plastic and rubber-soled shoes that insulate the body from Earth. He wondered if no longer being naturally grounded could affect us. The question led to an experiment that suggested grounding reduced pain and improved sleep. He developed a working hypothesis: Grounding normalizes the functioning of all body systems (Corollary: The body utilizes the Earth's electrical potential to maintain its internal electrical stability for the normal functioning of all self-regulating and self-healing systems). Over the past twenty years, he has supported a host of research studies that collectively demonstrate that grounding reduces inflammation and promotes the normal functioning of all body systems. In this episode, Clint and I talk about how grounding works and what the benefits are. First, Clint reveals his past health problems and what inspired him to start grounding. Plus, Clint talks about all the research and studies he has conducted over the past twenty years. He also describes the effects grounding can have on blood, sleep, and inflammation. Tune in! This episode is sponsored by the world's healthiest coffee beans; Purity Coffee. Click here to get your bag of beans delivered to you. Use 'ketokamp' for 10% off at checkout. Get your FREE Keto Kickstart Guide: http://www.ketokickstartguide.com [06:00] Holding at Earth’s Potential The Earth has a negative surface charge. When you connect anything to the Earth, it holds it at Earth’s potential; it reduces noise, fire, and charge. One day, Clint was having static problems. Intuitively, he wondered if the loss of contact with the Earth could be affecting his body. Everything in the body is electrical. [12:45] Plastic Sole Shoes Clint says plastic sole shoes make us insulate ourselves from Earth. Insolating ourselves from the Earth is like not having enough oxygen. It became apparent that grounding people will make the pain go away. [16:00] Electrical Surface Charge on Red Blood Cells When you touch the Earth, your body equalizes with the Earth. The red blood cells increase by a factor of 2.7 – an increase of 300%. Like little negative magnets, the cells repel each other – they can’t stick together. It prevents inflammation. As soon as you ground the body, inflammation disappears. [18:00] Inflammation in the Body You can’t have pain unless you have inflammation first. Pain is a signal to the body and the brain that you have inflammation, and your body is on fire. Inflammation presents differently in various people based on their genetics and lifestyle. How does inflammation begin? If you have no access to electrons, your immune system will encapsulate the damage. [22:20] Grounding with Nike Clint did work with Nike; whether it is true or not, Nike didn’t want to touch it. Nike said when people come into their stores and want a grounded shoe, they will start making a grounded shoe. [23:00] Clint’s Health Problems Clint’s doctors revealed that he had an abscess in his liver. They said there wasn’t much they could do; he was young enough to get a new liver, but he didn’t have much time. When Clint woke up, he had no energy whatsoever because they cut out a majority of his liver. Clint could hardly get out of bed; it took him a week to walk to the kitchen and six months to make it one mile. It took less than one year for Clint’s liver to regenerate in size. [26:00] The Definition of Grounding Grounding means returned to norma. In electrical terms, grounding means to be at Earth’s potential. The easiest thing to do is to take your shoes off and stand barefoot on the Earth. You can’t have inflammation on a grounded body. The hands and feet are equal; you can also put your hands on the Earth. [29:00] Grounding Benefits While Wearing Leather Shoes If you are wearing moccasins, they can ground you almost instantly. Wearing shoes made from conventional leather will have no plastic in them whatsoever. The more you wear them means you will build up more salts and moisture in the shoes. [30:10] The Most Surprising Benefit of Grounding The blood dramatically shifts; it changes. It’s hard to be upset or mad when your bare feet are on the ground. [3

Lowery. He earned his BS and MS in exercise physiology and exercise and nutrition science from the University of Tampa and completed his doctorate work at Concordia University in Health and Human Performance with a focus on “The Effects of a Well-Formulated Ketogenic Diet and Exogenous Ketone Supplementation on Various Markers of Health and Body Composition in Healthy and Diseased Populations.” Over his career, Ryan has published over 150 papers, abstracts, and book chapters on human performance and sports nutrition and has dedicated his life to educating the masses. In his free time, Ryan enjoys spending time with his best friend, Scoot the Keto Pup, jet skiing, and traveling around the world. The way to his heart is through a good glass of wine and Keto desserts. In this episode, Ryan and I talk about his amazing story and what he is currently working on. First, Ryan reveals what ignited his passion for educating people on the importance of healthy eating. Then, Ryan explains the future of obesity and why inspired action is the only thing that will change the world. He also describes tips for eating Keto, why some people fail when trying the lifestyle, and how you can gain muscle. Tune in! Grab the Keto Kickstart Guide for FREE: www.ketokickstartguide.com // T I M E S T A M P S [00:30] September 10, 2002 Ryan’s dad drove him down to the shore because something was wrong with his grandmother. When he got there, his grandmother had passed. His grandmother was obese, which ultimately contributed to her passing in her early 60’s. This initiated Ryan’s entire journey of educating people. [03:45] The Future of Obesity The obesity trend in children is unacceptable. Obesity trends are not only in America, but it is also happening all over the world. At the end of the day, it takes inspired action. [06:50] How Ryan Started with Keto Ryan is a self-proclaimed carboholic. After college, Ryan could no longer eat his normal amount of carbs. He realized his metabolism wasn’t the same. The first time Ryan started the keto diet, he felt terrible. Three times a day, he would make keto moose, and that was literally all he ate. [10:00] Biggest Reason for the Keto Flu It is going to take time for your body to adjust to using fat as fuel. The use of electrolytes can mitigate a lot of the flu. Sodium has been demonized; however, you need to be salting everything. Some people can completely switch to keto, whereas other people need to transition to the diet slowly. Make habit changes to develop a long-term lifestyle. [13:45] Building Muscle with the Ketogenic Diet You need to allow time for the adaptation period. The phase may be one to three weeks. Plus, you probably will not be training as hard. After you adapt, the ketogenic diet group will gain just as much muscle as individuals who are eating a carbohydrate diet. Each group ate the exact same amount of protein. [17:40] Why People Fail with the Ketogenic Diet A lot of people do not have the right information about the ketogenic diet. Also, people have trouble understanding what constitutes a well-formulated ketogenic diet and how to get electrolytes. Eating keto isn’t about eating high-fat, it is about eating low-carb. [20:10] Long-Term Keto Success Dial-in the electrolytes. Don’t be afraid of having tons of sodium. However, you don’t want table salt. Movement – if you want long-term benefits, you need some form of movement. This doesn’t have to be doing squats at the gym; you could be going for a walk or a hike once a day. Mindset – Ryan calls it intermittent eating rather than intermittent fasting. Find a place where you are comfortable. [24:00] Working Out While Fasting If your goal is to become a bodybuilder, working out while fasting probably won’t help with that goal. Ryan recommends shifting your eating habits earlier. Many people skip breakfast, then eat lunch and dinner. Ryan says to eat a bigger breakfast and then eat a smaller dinner. [27:35] The Ketogenic Bible The Ketogenic Bible: The Authoritative Guide to Ketosis makes understanding keto practical. Jacob Wilson and Ryan Lowery offer a comprehensive look at the ketogenic diet and the fat-burning state it induces, ketosis. Ryan’s favorite part of writing the book was looking up the history. For instance, Ryan found out the political motivations behind the reason’s society eats the way it does. Butter is back, and avocado sales are soaring. [35:00] The Applied Science & Performance Institute Their mission is to challenge current dogma in the health and human performance realms with new insight to effec

Naomi Whittel | Ingredients to Activate Autophagy |Anti-Aging Secrets : KKP 33

Today, I am lucky to have here with me a wellness explorer, Mother, Wife, CEO, and someone who is insatiably curious about the healing power of the Earth’s most precious ingredients, Naomi Whittel. The Real Skinny on Fat Docuseries: http://bit.ly/2kmITwE Naomi Whittel is widely recognized as the one to watch in the “wellness from within” space. Named by Prevention the nation’s leading female innovator in the natural products industry, Naomi is hailed as a trailblazer and an advocate of purity and potency in nutraceuticals. Naomi continues to deliver on her promise to help millions thrive with award-winning supplements they know will truly help them. A premier wellness partner for QVC, Naomi has also been recognized as one of the leading innovators in the natural products industry by Whole Foods Magazine in their exclusive “Who’s Who of Manufacturers and Suppliers.” Her story and products have been lauded by The Wall Street Journal, Vogue, ELLE, Harper’s Bazaar, ABC News, PBS, InStyle, The View, The Doctors, Dr. Oz, SHAPE, Access Hollywood, Natural Solutions, Good Morning America, Today Show and more. She is a steward of sustainability, a sought-after keynote speaker, and a member of the UN Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Naomi lives in Boca Raton, Florida with her husband and their four children. In this episode, Naomi and I talked about the journey that led her to where she is today. First, Naomi reveals some health troubles she had growing up, which led her to try some alternative medicines. In the end, it had a damaging effect on her health. Then, Naomi explains the inspiration behind her book and docuseries while giving tips on antiaging and feeling our best. She also describes how she landed a rare interview with a Nobel Peace Prize winner. Tune in! FREE KETO KICKSTART GUIDE: http://www.ketokickstartguide.com The Real Skinny on Fat Docuseries: http://bit.ly/2kmITwE [00:50] Naomi’s Previous Health Problems She spent her early childhood on an organic, biodynamic farm in Switzerland. Because her father is a chemist, he would teach Naomi about the essential elements needed as part of a health-promoting diet. Naomi suffered from debilitating eczema for which nothing seemed to work-not even traditional medicine. An acupuncturist provided her with a curative path through herbs and treatments. The symptoms of her eczema subsided over time. However, Naomi was confronted with dangerous levels of toxicity from heavy metals in the herbs she had ingested. [08:11] The Queen of Autophagy Naomi travels all over to different parts of the world and sees the trends that will eventually make their way to the United States. She got into autophagy intuitively – she recognized that she had to be building or removing. Green juices helped Naomi to eliminate her toxic load. [10:00] You Need to Start Eating Citrus Bergamont Naomi met with Dr. Elizabeth Janda, a researcher in Italy, opened Naomi’s eyes to this lifechanging fruit. Traditionally, the fruit is used to treat high cholesterol. Melitidin and brutieridin, discourage the production of LDL (“bad”) cholesterol while helping your body make HDL (“good”) cholesterol. [12:55] Activating Autophagy You can activate autophagy through exercise, sleeping, different foods, and a specific type of mindset. You can read Naomi’s book about autophagy here: Glow15: A Science-Based Plan to Lose Weight, Revitalize Your Skin, and Invigorate Your Life [15:15] Interviewing a Nobel Prize Winner Naomi landed a rare interview with Nobel Prize Winner, Dr. Yoshinori Ohsumi on autophagy. She cried tears of admiration after the interview because he is so humble. Ohsumi was malnourished as a child and dreamed of being a scientist. He created a whole body of work and research on autophagy. [18:20] How Skincare Relates to Autophagy Naomi worked with a Richard C. Wang, a dermatologist, to determine how to activate autophagy in the skin. She brought him hundreds of ingredients. Dr. Wang discovered which ingredients would activate the autophagy: Caffeine Ceramides Polyphenols Trehalose Your skin is just a mirror of what is going on inside. Women in their 50’s may have skin that looks so much older because of the different fibers. Women have to become smart about activating autophagy in the skin to stay looking young. [23:00] Antiaging Tips Learn how to activate cellular autophagy. It’s good for detoxing. Tap into your circadian rhythm. Teach your body to utilize good stress. Exercising can be a form of good stress. Autophagy loves good stress which has a massive antiaging effect. [26:05] The Real Skinny on Fat Naomi interviewed over 80 experts for her docuseries The Real Skinny on Fat. Oz did a whole show on keto and showed parts of her docuseries. Some of the key points Naomi took out of it: We want to burn fat as our core fuel. 25% of the population can utilize carbohydrates effectively. For those who can’t, it’s better not to bother. Nuts are not the best way to get your fats because they aren’t the cle

What Fasting & Keto Does to The Brain | Key Nutrients to Stimulate Neurogenesis & BDNF – Ben Azadi: KKP 32

On this episode of The Keto Kamp podcast we discuss the relationship between fasting, keto, and brain function. You will be amazed when you discover how ketones and fasting super charge your brain top perform at a top level. This episode is sponsored by my favorite olive oil, the Fresh Pressed Olive Oil Club. Try them for $1.00 www.ketokampolive.com The 4 key foods to stimulate neurogenesis: 1) Blueberries. I have blueberries just about every single day, and I recommend it to my clients. Not only is it low in sugar compared to other fruits, it is also packed full of antioxidants. Blueberries act in so many ways to promote neurogenesis and protect the brain from cognitive decline. Numerous studies show adding blueberries to the daily diet of mice increases neurogenesis significantly. Casadesus, G., Shukitt-Hale, B., Stellwagen, H.M., et al. (Oct 2004). “Modulation of hippocampal plasticity and cognitive behavior by short-term blueberry supplementation in aged rats.” Nutritional Neuroscience. 7(5-6):309-16. Acosta, S., Jernberg, J., Sanberg, C.D., Sanberg, P.R., Small, B.J., Gemma, C., Bickford, P.C. (Oct 2010). Rejuvenation Res. 13 (5):581-8. doi 10.1089/rej.1011. Epub 29 Jun 2010. Joseph, J.A., Shukitt-Hale, B., Lau, F. C. “Fruit polyphenols and their effects on neuronal signaling and behavior in senescence.” Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences. Consuming about 1 cup per day is the equivalent human portion that animal studies have suggested. Here’s a bonus tip, buy wild organic frozen blueberries. New research from South Dakota State University [https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/07/1 722124810.htm] suggests that frozen blueberries deliver a bigger dose of disease-fighting antioxidants than fresh. These antioxidants come from compounds called anthocyanins, which give blueberries their purple hue. The ice crystals that form when the berries are frozen disrupt the structure of the plant tissue and make anthocyanins more available. The anthocyanin dye, which causes the dark blue color, crosses the blood-brain barrier to stimulate neurogenesis. [Page 61] Humans with cognitive decline showed improvements after consuming blueberries daily. Devore. E. E., Kang, J.H., Bretellen, M. M., Grodstein, F. A. (July 2012). “Dietary intakes of berries and flavonoids in relation to cognitive decline.” Neurology. 72(1):135-43. Doi: 10.1002/ana.23594. Epub 26 Apr 2012. Joseph, J.A., Shukitt-Hale, B., Willis, L. M. (Sep 2009). “Grape juice, berries, and walnuts affect brain aging and behavior.” Journal of Nutrition. 139(9):1813S-7S. Doi: 10.3945/jn.109.108266. Epub 29 Jul 2099. Review. Aside from increasing neurogenesis, blueberries allow better communication among neurons, something called signal transduction. [Page 62] Studies have shown that blueberry extracts are as effective as fresh blueberries.[page 62] In most animal studies it’s the extract that is used. This makes daily blueberry intake possible for those who don’t have access to fresh blueberries. Life Extension makes a great blueberry extract product. 2) Omega 3s. Another neurogenesis superstar is the complex of omega-3 fatty acids, found in abundance in cold water fish, including wild Alaskin salmon, coho and sockeye salmon, black cod, sablefish, sardines, and herrings. Omega-3s have been shown to dramatically increase neurogenesis and BDNF Levels. [Page 62] Neuroscience researcher Sandrine Thuret, Ph.D., of London’s Kings College, reported a 40% increase in neurogenesis by adding omega-3’s in Science Daily in 2007. Other studies have shown impressive results in neurogenesis, elevated BDNF levels, increased in brain size, and neuroprotective benefits from omega-3s. Conklin, S.M., Gianaros, P.J., Brown, S.M., et al. (29 June 2007). “Long-chain omega-3 fatty acid intake is associated positively with corticolimbic gray matter volume in healthy adults.” Neuroscience Letters. 421(3):209-12 Beltz, B. S., Tlusty, M. F., Benton, J. L., Sandeman, D. C. (2007). “Omega-3 fatty acids up regulate adult neurogenesis.” Neurogenesis Letters. Zainuddin, M. S. A., & Thuret, S. (2012). “Nutrition, adult and hippocampal neurogenesis and mental health.” British Medical Bulletien. 103, 1, p.89-114. DOI:10.1093/bmb/Ids021. Our brains are made up of about 60% fat; this is where the term “fathead” came from. The next time someone calls you a fathead, say thank you. DHA, one of the most important of the omega-3s, constitutes about 30% of the brains cerebral cortex. Jockers. D. (2012). “Is your brain getting enough of this nutrient?” NaturalNews.com. (11/05/2012). When you consume high quality fats you are continuously rebuilding your brains’ cellular structure. Omega-3s are the highest quality fats for brain development. 3) Green Tea. Green tea contains polyphenols, the most powerful of which is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a type of catechin. Green tea’s polyphenols have been shown to increase neurogenesis, BDNF levels, and to have strong health benefits ranging from

7 Amazing Benefits of Fasting, Boost Stem Cells, Fix Your Gut & More – Ben Azadi: KKP 29

In this episode, we’ll talk about 7 amazing benefits of fasting. 7 Week Beyond Fasting Program w/ Ben Azadi: http://www.ketokampfasting.com Get my FREE Keto Kickstart Guide: http://www.ketokickstartguide.com My Favorite Keto Beef Jerky & More: http://www.paleovalley.com Use coupon code ketokamp10 for 10% off Here is an overview of this episode: The number 1 benefit: Autophagy (self eating). Up to 70 billion cells need to be recycled each day; autophagy is the process for this to happen. How autophagy works (refrigerator analogy) An alarming stastisic about Americans, and why most are in a constant fed state, never experiencing autophagy. mTor (anabolic growth) vs autophagy (cellular breakdown and repair), and how they have an inverted relationship The problems that can occur when you are in a constant fed state The number 2 benefit: rise in stem cells. How a rise in stem cells help to heal old injuries (knee pain, back pain, etc) The number 3 benefit: A boost of ketones. How ketones protect the genes we are born with. How ketones down regulate inflammation, allowing our hormones to communicate to our cells. How ketones help you achieve the ultimate goal of metabolic flexibility. Why ketones are a cleaner fuel source than glucose (firewood vs gas stove analogy) The keto diet turns on the SIRT1 longevity gene The number 4 benefit: Energy diversion. How fasting provides you with energy and blood flow to heal the body, and crush the day. Study by Dr. Zach Bush which showed it took 14 hours to digest a standard American diet meal. The number 5 benefit: Hormone optimization. How our hormones and our cells communicate, and why having more sensitive hormones through fasting has amazing benefits for us. How inflammation through being in a constant fed state creates cellular inflammation, and results in our hormones not being able to communicate to our cells. Why we don't have a lack of hormones problem, we have an inflammation problem. The number 5 benefit: Resets the microbiome. Dr. Jason Fung - Diabetes, Obesity, Intermittent Fasting, & The Calories Debacle – KKP 24

Today’s episode is very close to my heart as I have a personal experience with diabetes. My father developed Type II Diabetes and I have watched him struggle with this disease. It was a very difficult time of my life. Ever since he passed away five years ago, I set out and study diabetes and why my fathers doctors’ advice did not work. I came across the book The Obesity Code: Unlocking the Secrets of Weight Loss by Dr. Jason Fung where he explains how to use intermittent fasting to break the cycle of insulin resistance and reach a healthy weight—for good. The information that I now know would’ve saved my father’s life. Which is why I fully support Dr. Jason Fung’s, today’s guest, on his mission to spread as much information on diabetes and intermittent fasting to help as many people as possible. Dr. Jason Fung is a Canadian nephrologist. He’s a world-leading expert on intermittent fasting and low carb, especially for treating people with type 2 diabetes. He has written three best-selling health books and he co-founded the Intensive Dietary Management Program. Dr. Fung works with Team Diet Doctor where they make it simple for people to understand and implement intermittent fasting, to improve their health. In this episode, we break down every single thing you need to know about calories, obesity, diabetes and intermittent fasting. Sit tight and enjoy! This episode is sponsored by the world's healthiest coffee beans, Purity coffee. Get your beans delivered to your door: http://www.ketokampcoffee.com In this episode, you'll discover: [00:17] How Dr. Fung got into the health space, particularly nephrology As a Math and Science person, Dr. Fung initially thought he would pursue the field of engineering. He then decided that being a physician was more fitted to his style. After years in the university, he figured that he was also invested in doing research. As a physician, he can help people and do some research at the same time. In choosing a specialty, Dr. Fung felt that Nephrology suited his personality better. Nephrology is a complex specialty which is sort of a thinking-person speciality unlike cardiology which is more of an action specialty (i.e surgery) [4:13] Diabetes, Obesity and Intermittent Fasting The most common and important cause of kidney disease is Type II Diabetes which is closely related to weight gain and obesity. Treating kidney diseases with medications is the least effective way to treat people. You have to look at the root cause of the disease in order to be successful in treating it. Which is why, for Dr. Fung, the real question was “what causes weight gain?” Nutrition is not considered part of the medical specialty which explains why doctors depend on medications to treat certain illnesses. Second question: What are you gonna do about it? Obesity was not existent during the 1970s. Now, 70% of Americans are obese. Intermittent Fasting: People suffering with Type II Diabetes for 20+ years immediately felt better by intermittent fasting. Fasting is less fun that eating pizza and doughnuts. Fasting is tough work. It is important to give people undergoing intermittent fasting the support and education they need. [12:30] The Calorie Debacle Coca-Cola created a group called the Global Energy Balance Network to keep people focused on calories. They wanted people to think that 100 calories of broccoli is equivalent to 100 calories of Coca-Cola which is completely wrong. If you think that if you can eat cookies, drink coke and exercise then, you’ll be healthy, you are wrong. But, Coca-Cola wants you to think that this is right. Hormones control hunger, telling our body when to eat and when to stop. Different calorie sources elicit different hormonal responses. Diet and exercise are totally different things. Diet is what you eat. It affects the liver mostly. Exercise is mostly about skeletal muscles. Calorie is not a physiologic term. There’s no calorie-receptors in our body. We think that excessive intake of calories causes obesity. We think that this is a caloric imbalance. Too many ‘calories in’ compared to too few ‘calories out’ leads to weight gain. This Calorie Balance model of obesity has been drilled into us since childhood. Read more about the Calorie Debacle here. [18:40] Intermittent Fasting as a reasonable alternative to treat patients Ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting are not as famous as low-carb diet. Jason Fung received a lot of backlash when he started to introduce intermittent fasting to his patients. Because of IF, patients were getting better. At the end of the day, you can’t ignore that. Other doctors started to notice the success of IF. Through his book, The Obesity Code: Unlocking the Secrets of Weight Loss, Dr. Fung explains how to use intermittent fasting to break the cycle of insulin resistance and reach a healthy weight—for good. [25:55] Why the common treatments for type 2 diabetes seem to make things worse Type II Diabetes is a reversible disease. The standard tre

Today’s episode is a story about pain and struggles and how these experiences help develop passion and purpose. Autumn Smith, joins us today to share her own wellness journey of healing from IBS and her mission to inspire people to take care of themselves. She gives tips on diet and nutrition, exercise, drugs/medicines, and routine for greater physical and mental health, including the importance of consistently testing your blood sugar levels. You don’t want to miss this one! Autumn suffered acute digestive issues since she was a teenager and numerous experts failed to offer solutions that worked. Very concerned, her husband, Chas took matters into his own hands. His extensive research led him to the paleo diet. Together they implemented its principles for 30 days and by the end, Autumn's IBS was completely resolved. With this wonderful learning experience, Autumn focused on disseminating information to facilitate wellness for everyone. She achieves this through Paleovalley and Wild Pastures. In this episode, you'll discover: [00:30] From Pain to Purpose Autumn started to have digestion issues as early as 10 years old. They jumped from doctor to doctor and nobody really gave her a ‘healing’ answer. Autumn managed her pain on her own and she now knows that there’s a profound gut and brain connection. With Autumn’s decision to manage it instead of address it, her mental health started to deteriorate. It was so bad that Autumn was kicked out of her parents’ house before she even graduated from high school. This experience helped her develop the level responsibility she has today. From rock bottom, she pulled it together, got to college, moved to LA, pursued a dance career where she worked for Tracy Anderson, a celebrity fitness trainer. Her husband noticed that she is still suffering a lot that they decided to visit one last doctor. Still, no ‘healing’ answer was given. Through their self-guided research, she and her husband healed her digestive issues with the paleo diet. Within 30 days of the paleo diet, her digestive issues completely went away. Through Paleovalley, Autumn’s purpose is to facilitate wellness for everyone else by disseminating excellent nutritional information and organic food products with 100 million people worldwide [5:50] Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Feeling bloated after meals. Experiencing pain and cramps in the lower abdomen. Getting itchy skin rashes or blisters. Deteriorating mental health. Unstable blood sugar levels. [6:40] There is no cookie-cutter approach on regulating your blood sugar levels. Keto diet has been shown to improve blood sugar control. Regulating your blood sugar level is similar to a fingerprint. It is very unique. Number 1 step: Test your blood sugar levels. It is important to test. You cannot get all the information you need from the glycemic index and glycemic load. Fifty (50%) of people today are insulin resistant → highly correlated with the number of people with mental health issues. [9:33] Mental Health, Drugs and Nutrition. Anti-anxiety drugs increase the risk of addiction in just 4 days. The pharmaceutical industry taught us the depression is just a case of serotonin-deficiency. Dietary intervention for people with mental health issues: Stabilize your blood sugar level. Address nutrient-deficiency. Track nutrition & count calories. (e.g Cronometer) Most mental health issues today are rooted with the immune system inflammation. Make sure you are not eating inflammatory foods. Identify your food sensitivities and gut issues. [15:58] Foods, Anxiety and Depression Foods that trigger anxiety and depression: Sugar Gluten Back in the 1950s, there’s an association with gluten and schizophrenia Dairy Gluten and dairy breakdown into exorphins. These chemicals make you feel good in the moment but a little while after, they take you down and make you feel terrible. Caffeine Foods that reduce anxiety and depression: Seafoods (B12 and Omega-3 Fatty Acids) Organ Meats Vitamin A Folate Riboflavin Vegetables For a full list of foods with purported mental-health benefits, check out the study Antidepressant foods: An evidence-based nutrient profiling system for depression [23:20] Story behind Paleovalley To heal her digestive issues, Autumn eliminated refined foods, shopped at local farmers’ market, ate fresh organic fruits and vegetables, grass fed meats and wild seafood. By the end of a 30-day period, Autumn's IBS was completely resolved Autumn and her husband, Chas, originally focused on disseminating information. The

A study showed a 2,000% increase in HGH after a 24 hour fast in men, and a 1,300% increase in HGH after a 24 hours fast in women. 07:28 Interesting Fasting Facts: In ancient Egypt, India and Greece, dosed starvation was used as for a curative and preventive purposes, as to strengthen the spirit. It is known that Pythagoras (580-500 years. BC), Greek philosopher and mathematician, founder of the famous school of philosophy, systematically starved for 40 days, rightly believing that it increases the mental perception and creativity. He demanded strict 40-day fast on water alone from each of his numerous disciples and followers. Hippocrates (460-357 years BC) - a physician who owns a great medical commandment: “Do no harm!”, was an ardent supporter of moderation and treatment through fasting. He wrote: “The addition of food should be much rarer, since it is often useful to completely take it away while the patient can withstand it, until the force of the disease reaches its maturity. The man carries within him a doctor; you just have to help him do his work. If the body is not cleared, then the more you feed it, the more it will be harmed. When a patient is fed too richly, the disease is fed as well. Remember – any excess is against nature.” 11:20 Benefits of intermittent fasting. 13:03 Is fasting effective against cancer? 14:35 Does intermittent fasting help to burn fat? 16:59 What will happen to my blood sugar levels when I intermittent fast? 18:53 Will I go into starvation mode when intermittent fasting? 20:47 Will I lose muscle when intermittent fasting? // R E S O U R C E S Benefits of fasting study: https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2011-04/imc-sfr033111.php Study shows a 13% increase in metabolism after 4 consecutive days of fasting: https://idmprogram.com/fix-broken-metabolism/ Join The Keto Kamp Inner Circle: https://www.ketokamp.com Get the Keto Kickstart Guide for FREE: http://www.ketokickstartguide.com Get my FREE Fasting Cheat Sheet: http://www.fastingcheatsheet.com YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/ketokamp My Favorite Keto Beef Jerky & More: http://www.paleovalley.com Use coupon code ketokamp10 for 10% off This podcast is for information purposes only. In this episode, you'll discover: [00:55] Sean Croxton, the early years Sean’s mother worked three jobs. By the time he wakes up in the morning, his mom is already at work. When he goes to bed at night, his mom is still at work. “If I didn’t have that experience of living at the poverty line, I probably wouldn’t have the value that I have on abundance.” His early years was a great learning experience for him. It showed him the value of earning money. It showed him the freedom of earning money. It showed him that in order to have more money, you gotta do more service. [8:18] The audio clip that helped changed Sean’s life In November of 2009, his friend, Antonio, sent him an audio clip of John Demartini. “The amount of money that you have will always be in direct proportion to the quality and quantity of the service you provide.” [17:10] After graduating from college, Sean became a personal trainer. His uncle and his aunt were his biggest influences on why he took health in college. As a personal trainer, Sean had to build up the courage to talk to people when suffering with social anxiety. He had his first panic attack while doing some personal training. His doctor prescribed him Prozac but what he really wanted was Paxil. While training his last client, he found himself in the midst of a “Prozac-induced” panic attack. His social anxiety isn't completely gone and Sean's ok with that. He prefers to call it introversion. [22:32] Back in 2008, Sean launched his first show, Underground Wellness Radio. The podcast ran for 7 years and he released 348 episodes over this period of time. Surprising to most, in 2015 Sean closed up shop with his brand Underground Wellness. “Passions have seasons, and all seasons eventually come to an end.” - Lisa Nichols Sean felt that his passion for interviewing health experts is over. [26:08] The importance of passion and loving what you do for a living If you are not living according to your highest values, it means you are not really living. You are living by social idealisms. You are living by something outside of you. Life is too short for that. A lot of us are trapped in the ‘how’ When you are fully aligned with your values, the ‘how’ just shows up. [27:23] Sean's motivational influences after shutting down Underground Wellness Sean was super deep into reading books by John F. Demartini. Books by Demartini: How to Make One Hell of a Profit and Still Get to Heaven The Breakthrough Experience The Gratitude Effect The Values Factor He also read books by Bob Proctor. Books by Bob Proctor: You Were Born Rich The Art of Living Sean dived deep into physiology, neuroscience and brain chemistry. On his new YouTube Channel, Mind Kamp, he flipped the focus to personal development with a sprinkle of health. [31:22] Neurocardiology: Interaction between the brain and the heart In the communication between the brain and the heart, 90% of it goes from the heart to the brain. There’s a little brain inside our hearts that stores information, memories, personalities, etc. Our hearts are our point of attraction. Heart rate variability is the physiological phenomenon of variation in the time interval between heartbeats. We don’t want these to be to low. That would mean we are unhealthy. Emotions dictate your heart rate variability. Measure your heart rate variability through: Oura Ring emWave2 [34:11] Adding love and gratitude into your keto diet and fasting Meditation comes a long way. emWave2: emWave 2 helps with the analysis of HRV that reflects heart-brain interaction and autonomic nervous system dynamics, which are particularly sensitive to changes in your emotional state. emWave2 tech

Fasting, Autophagy, mTor & Cancer | Reduce Your Cancer Risk by 95% – Ben Azadi: KKP 14

In this episode, we’ll talk all about autophagy. Here is an overview of this episode: The relationship between mTor & autophagy Which foods boost autophagy How to achieve autophagy via exercise Why bodybuilders die sooner than the average person Why you don't want too much autophagy Get my FREE Keto Kickstart Guide: www.ketokickstartguide.com YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/ketokamp My Favorite Keto Coffee: http://www.ketokampcoffee.com 03:55 The definition of autophagy is 'Self Eating'. We are made up of trillions of cells; every day, 70 billion cells need to be recycled. Powerful refrigerator analogy on autophagy. 05:28 How not achieving autophagy leads to cancer and disease. Dr. Thomas Seyfried, who wrote the book Cancer As A Metabolic Disease, is quoted as saying "If you were to complete a 7 day water only fast you would reduce your risk of cancer by 95%". 06:10 When the body is fasted, this is an acute hormedic to the body. The body will use damaged cells, proteins, and mitochondria first! Powerful analogy on a ship going through the Atlantic ocean taking on water and sinking. 07:20 The relationship between mTor & autophagy (feast/famine), and why they can both be good for us or bad for us. Its all about how you use it. There's an art to this. Think of mTor as growth (anabolic), and autophagy as catabolic. 09:30 The human body is designed for feast/famine cycles, and when you can master this, your DNA and cells will thrive. We have 97% control over the expression of our genes. This is called epigenetics. Check out the work by Dr. Bruce Lipton: https://www.brucelipton.com/ 11:07 In order to rebuild we must tear down first. I give a great analogy I heard from Dr. Jason Fung about old kitchen counters. Relate this analogy to the process of autophagy. 11:44 When does autophagy start during a fast? It depends on the person, it ranged from 12 hours to 24 hours. A general answer is that most people should be getting autophagy at the 16 hour fasting mark. 12:30 Dr. Thomas Seyfried saw cancerous tumors shrink before his eyes when his patients achieved maximum autophagy during a block fast. Here is how you test for max autophagy; take your blood glucose, divide by 18, and compare to your blood ketones. If you have a 1:1 ratio or higher, you are in max autophagy. 14:47 Achieve 3x the autophagy with a dry fast. This is extreme so work with a health practitioner. 15:15 Exercise increases autophagy. So do these specific ingredients. Add them to your daily diet; coffee, olive oil, coconuts, green tea, turmeric, ginger, sulforaphane (broccoli sprouts), mushrooms. Keto For Cancer, Fasting & Autophagy, Busting Cancer Myths – Dr. Nasha Winters KKP 12

One out of every three Americans is diagnosed with cancer. So, it is very important to learn how to cope and deal with it. If you or any of your loved have ever been affected by cancer, this is going to be the episode you’re gonna want to listen. In this episode, I am joined by a world leader in cancer research and the author of The Metabolic Approach to Cancer, Dr. Nasha Winters. I’m thrilled to have Dr. Nasha on to bring us wisdom and tips in navigating the cancer terrain. Dr. Nasha Winters speaks from experience when she talks about Cancer and how to be proactive in preventing and/or combating it. Her first experience with cancer was at the age of 19. She was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer and given only a few months to live. Determine to get well, she discovered the life changes that would turn it around. She immersed herself in chemistry and biology and became her own savior. Her book, The Metabolic Approach to Cancer, stems from her nearly three decades of personal and professional experience in the field of integrative oncology. Dr. Nasha is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor (ND) and a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (FABNO). She is a global healthcare authority in integrative cancer research. Dr. Nasha is a sought-after speaker and consults with physicians worldwide. This episode is all about cancer and we dig deep as to why this disease is happening. Listen and learn from the stories that Dr. Nasha shares that will truly affect your heart. We also talked about skin cancer, BRCA gene, vitamin D and more. There’s so much information in this episode making it truly one for the books! In this episode, you'll discover: [4:24] Dr. Nasha’s first experience with cancer At the age of 19, Dr. Nasha was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer. She was given 3 to 6 months to live, even with treatment. She was filled with ascites, metastatic lesions, crippled in extreme pain and nausea, had infections simmering, severe malnourishment, and muscle wasting. Her doctors told her that chemo and surgery wouldn’t help her advanced cancer. The diagnosis of terminal cancer suddenly shook her awake and asked her point-blank if she wanted to live or die. It had taken countless doctors over six months to stop making assumptions and defaulting to writing scripts from A (anxiolytics) to Z (Zithromax). Dr. Nasha was forced to explore alternative methods. Luckily, she was blessed with an ER doctor who allowed her the time to share the chronology of her symptoms and truly listen. In the last 6 months, Dr. Nasha have seen 5 girls under the age of 10 with Stage IV Ovarian cancer. Dr. Nasha acknowledges that her past experiences of significant trauma and abuse contributed to her illness. [17:42] What is The Gerson Therapy? The Gerson Therapy was popularized in the 1940s by Dr. Charlotte Gerson. Dr. Gerson had amazing experience of solving all kinds of oncology situations by putting people on a very vegetable-densed high potassium, low sodium chloride diet. The key parts of the Gerson therapy are a strict diet, dietary supplements, and enemas. [24:12] Sharing authentically is very powerful for healing the body. The theory that changing mental state can affect the course of cancer has been popularized by authors such as Bernie Siegel and Deepak Chopra. A support group program called Exceptional Cancer Patients (ECap) developed by Dr. Siegel found that women with breast cancer has a higher chance of survival rate when they are part of a support group. Take The ACE Quiz - According to the Adverse Childhood Experiences study, the rougher your childhood, the higher your score is likely to be and the higher your risk for later health problems. [27:45] The Cancer Experience Having been diagnosed with cancer felt a very dirty secret for Dr. Nasha. The first person that she has told about her diagnosis then is now her husband. The hardest thing when you are dealing with a cancer diagnosis is the well-meaning advice and wishes of the people in your circle. You could take every perfect supplement. You could be in perfect metabolic flexibility. You can have an incredibly immaculate clean environment. But, if you are not dealing with the emotional healing within yourselves, you are not gonna get very far. You are not gonna get the outcomes you are hoping to achieve. People have to come to it when they are ready. Check out this resource from Dr. Nasha: 5 Steps to Take After a Cancer Diagnosis [34:38] Top tools to heal your body At 16, Dr. Nasha decided to become a ‘vegetarian’. A Chinese medical practitioner looked at her tongue and told her, “You have to eat some animal food.” TEST. ASSESS. ADDRESS. Adjust accordingly. Consistently do your labs. Do not guess. Do not compare. Dr. Nasha advices people diagnosed with cancer to not tell everybody in the beginning. When you tell your loved ones, you deal with their reactions and you don’t get the opportunity to work on your own. [41:28] Issue with eating every two to three

Intermittent Fasting vs Caloric Restriction, Why Counting Calories Is Stupid – Ben Azadi: KKP 11

In this episode, we’ll talk all about counting calories. Here is an overview of this episode: Why cutting calories only works short term The difference between intermittent fasting & counting calories Where the energy expenditure hypothesis came from (this will shock you) Why you cannot outsmart the human body Get my FREE Keto Kickstart Guide: www.ketokickstartguide.com YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/ketokamp My Favorite Keto Coffee: www.ketokampcofee.com 03:45 A story about a woman named Sandra who hired a nutritionist to help her lose weight, and this nutritionists (backward) approach of telling her to eat less and move more. This story powerfully illustrates why you cannot outsmart the human body. 08:03 Where did this energy expenditure hypothesis come from, and why are dietitians and nutritionists still promoting this? This will shock you. 08:35 Faith vs fear. Faith and fear both demand for you to believe in something you cannot see; you choose! 09:12 Food is information. What really matters are the hormonal response from calories. We are a dynamic system. At this point of the episode I give an analogy I learned from Gary Taubes 10:10 A simple example of why quality is much more important than quantity. I can give 500 calories to one person of brownies day after day. I can give the same 500 calories to another person of a kale salmon salad day after day. Will there be a difference? You bet! 10:48 A brilliant analogy from Dr. Jason Fung about proximate cause vs ultimate cause. 12:30 With calories in vs calories out, you don't have enough data. It doesn't tell you about hormones, cell membrane inflammation, mold exposure, silver fillings, and many other hidden stressors contributing to weight gain. 13:10 The difference between intermittent fasting while cutting calories, and cutting your calories while eating small portion control meals every 2-3 hours. The biggest difference here is counter regulatory hormones. Intermittent fasting is not about eating less, its about eating less often. 15:45 There's a cause of every effect. We don't lose weight to get healthy, we get healthy to lose weight. Einstein said it best, "Intellectuals solver problems. Geniuses prevent them." 16:15 A perfect example of why chasing symptoms only sets you up for longterm failure. 30 Days Fasting, Insulin & Weight Gain, Reversing Diabetes, Vitamin D & Insulin Connection – Dr. Don Clum KKP 009

Today, I am joined by one of the most brilliant Chiropractors, Functional Fitness expert, and Nutritionist, specializing in Advanced Metabolic Nutrition, Dr. Don Clum. Unlike what’s known in the medical world, his approach in Diabetic Care and other metabolic syndromes such as obesity has shown remarkable results. In this episode, Dr. Clum talks about his experience in the practice of Diabetic Care and Fasting, giving focus on the important role of insulin and other hormones in our body. We’ve also talked about the fasting process and how our metabolic organs play vital roles in keeping our body healthy. He shares a few powerful messages. One of which is that “The goal of fasting is not to just get through it, but to actually have the ability to do it”. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I do! GRAB YOUR FREE KETO KICKSTART GUIDE: WWW.KETOKICKSTARTGUIDE.COM SUBSCRIBE TO THE KETO KAMP YOUTUBE CHANNEL: WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/KETOKAMP PURCHASE THE HEALTHIEST KETO COFFEE ON THE PLANET: WWW.KETOKAMPCOFFEE.COM During our discussion, you’ll discover: [2:24] Dr. Clum’s interesting childhood He grew up in a family of chiropractors As a teenager, he really did not want to be one until he was bribed by his father to attend a seminar and eventually enjoyed a studio night lead by a group of chiropractor students. He then went to Atlanta Georgia to take a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and LifeWest in California to take his Chiropractic degree. He eventually influenced his daughter to be a chiropractor too by bringing her in chiropractic seminars. Growing up, he and his siblings were raised in a healthy environment. They grew up attending college seminars as family vacations and did not use medications often. [7:12] Dr. Clum’s life as a chiropractor in Costa Rica He gives credit to Shawn Dill who authored the law that regulates the practice of chiropractic in Costa Rica. He lived eight years in Costa Rica working with universities and olympic athletes mostly. [10:59] Dr. Clum’s story of getting into his passion for Diabetes It started back when he was diagnosed with skin cancer back in Costa Rica. With his background in nutrition, he studied more about diet and lifestyle. He was able to heal himself with a change of diet and lifestyle. After 10 years, realizing the problem in obesity and diabetes, he opened a Wellness Center in Spain providing different programs such as weight loss, fast fitness, and metabolic syndrome programs. [14:54] Introducing his model in the medical world Dr. Warren White, an owner of a Population Health Company, partnered with him to provide his services in a larger scope of population. He had to study and research diabetes holistically to back up his own diabetes prevention program as it completely opposed the ADA Diabetes Guidelines. He fought for the recognition that the insulin-based model is the more effective approach in diabetes. [20:31] ADA’s Diabetes Prevention Program vs. Dr. Clum’s Insulin-based Model ADA’s is a traditional model and focuses on regulating blood sugar. It is based on low fat, low calorie, small frequent meals and snacks, increasing physical activity and medication. A study showed that it does not prevent diabetes, but only postpones it. Dr. Clum’s program focuses on controlling the root cause of diabetes, the insulin. Insulin sensitivity decreases symptoms of Type II Diabetes. It also promotes weight loss – visceral and non-visceral, which is vital in treating diabetes. [26:39] Diabetes is not irreversible, degenerative disease. Diabetes is seen in the medical world as irreversible degenerative disease and requires life-long management of blood sugar. The traditional approach treats the symptoms, but if you shift in the insulin-based model, the opportunity to reverse diabetes is possible. [28:12] The major role of hormone Insulin in Weight loss and Diabetes According to Dr. Clum, “Weight loss in itself is pointless.” In order to treat Type II diabetes, the diabetic patient needs to lose only 1 gram of fat out of the pancreas. It resets the metabolic mechanism of the pancreas. It’s not the caloric intake; it’s the insulin that plays in weight management Since 60’s and 70’s, there are a lot of studies about weight management that revolves in the law of thermodynamics or “calories in = calories out”. However, they are not effective for everyone. It is random and never predictable. Insulin-based program in treating diabetes is more complex than calories in = calories out Patients who already tried the traditional way of managing diabetes were advised to eat more rather than eating less to get their metabolism to a certain point before the fasting. [36:30] The concept of fed and lean state In a constant fed state, the insulin is up all the time. Eating is any time our body consumes calories. An average American is in a constant fed state, eating about 17-23 times a day. When you fast, your body becomes in a lean state. When you fast, your body starts to repair damaged cells in
