Courtney Hunt, MD | How Ketosis & Sunshine Helps to Lower Inflammation & Beat Fatigue by Supercharging Your Mitochondria! KKP: 610
Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr. Courtney Hunt. She attended the University of California at Berkeley for her undergraduate studies and continued her education at Loyola School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. She completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at UCLA. Dr. Hunt practiced obstetrics and gynecology for 15 years before stopping obstetrics to pursue her interest in quantum biology and nutrigenetics or the interaction between our environment and our DNA. Dr. Hunt began investigating the intersection between the physics of light, mitochondria, and DNA to determine the best practices and methods to keep us healthy. She has successfully treated patients with complex and chronic issues, she has developed integrative protocols to address a variety of illnesses that include thyroid and hormone balancing, nutritional genetics, and mitochondrial function assessment. She also believes in the optimization of human potential for the individual, our families, our communities, and society. The mission is love, and when we all learn to heal inflammation one by one that is when we come to work together for the good of humanity. In this episode, Dr. Hunt opens the show by explaining why healing your body through sunlight and nutrition should be more mainstream. Then, Dr. Hunt dives into how the energy from the sun is everything, and it feeds all forms of life on this planet. If you aren’t getting your daily dose of sunlight, your body won’t naturally heal itself. Plus, Dr. Hunt reveals the real reason autism rates are increasing globally. Tune in as we chat about improving vitamin D levels, why we have a mental health crisis, and the importance of lowering inflammation in the brain. [00:50] Fixing Problems With Nutrition Should Become More Mainstream Dr. Hunt had two children back to back. At one point, Dr. Hunt could barely read; she realized that she was losing her cognition. After doing research, Dr. Hunt realized a massive problem with her patients and their nutrition. To solve problems, you have to look at the symptoms and figure out what foods or supplements will help build better cells. [07:10] Energy Is Everything: How The Sun Can Help Heal Your Body The sun in the sky is in thermodynamic equilibrium with Earth. The light in the sun gives us all the energy to grow plants and for the plants to perform photosynthesis. Those plants are cleaning our environment and making oxygen for us to breathe, and we are burning the oxygen as fuel. When you understand electromagnetic radiation, it is frequencies of energy. The energy from the sun is feeding animals, plants, and humans. All information comes from sunlight either, directly or indirectly. [10:20] Should You Go Outside and Get More Sunshine Today? You should be outside no matter where you live. Also, be cognizant of your skin type. Dr. Hunt recommends getting the D Minder App: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/d-minder-pro/id547102495 You need just the right amount of sunlight. Don’t scroll on Instagram all day; instead, play with the D Minder App. [15:00] Mitochondria 101: The Mini Suns That Live Inside of Us The mitochondria are our suns within us. They make energy. The mitochondria take information from the sun, food, electrons, and oxygen. Then, they pack up this molecule called ATP, which gives direction to our DNA. [19:30] There Are Over 600,000 Mitochondria Fertilization In One Cell The brain, the eyes, the heart, and the ovaries have the highest concentration of mitochondria. In fact, an egg has 600,000 mitochondria fertilization in one cell. You have to kick start a consciousness in one cell. The night before ovulation, the egg takes 20 billion zinc atoms into it. The egg has more mitochondria than the brain; it’s magic. [21:20] Fertility Rates Are Declining: Here’s What You Can Do Women are getting pregnant older. Fertility is continuing to decline. We are poisoning our eggs and our sperm over generations. There are fewer pregnancies and fewer healthy children. Fertility rates will plummet because of our toxic environment and poor nutrition. You have to find ways to lower insulin. Practice fasting so you can get rid of toxins. [27:50] The Real Reason Autism Rates Are Increasing In Our Population Evolu

[04:11] When Appearance Matters Too Much: Unhealthy Extremes in Bodybuilding · Physical appearance alone does not determine overall health. · Pursuing extreme fitness goals can negatively affect physical and mental health. · Public praise and external validation can disguise unhealthy habits and behaviors. · Neglecting mental health while focusing solely on physical fitness can have detrimental effects. · Seeking professional medical advice is crucial, but it's important to consider a holistic approach to health and explore alternative solutions. [18:09] Diversity of the Gut Microbiome and Changing to a Healthy Diet · A diverse gut microbiome is linked to better overall health, including metabolic and mental health. · The standard American diet can lead to low diversity and bacterial overgrowth in the gut. · Switching to a healthy diet may cause bloating and digestive issues if the gut lacks the necessary bacteria to digest certain foods. · The problem lies in the microbiome composition rather than the healthy foods. · Gradual transition to a healthy diet can help the gut adapt and develop the necessary bacteria for proper digestion. [23:51] What is the truth about stomach acid? · Low stomach acid production is more common than excessive acid production. · Insufficient stomach acid can lead to improper digestion of proteins, causing reflux-like symptoms. · Drinking highly alkaline water for extended periods may potentially lower stomach acid levels. · Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and antacids can contribute to bacterial overgrowth in the gut. · Stomach acid serves as a first-line defense against pathogens, and its reduction can lead to increased bacterial overgrowth. [34:48] Body Fat Percentage: What Is Right for Women? · Body fat percentage varies individually and can affect women differently. · Women's optimal body fat range is typically between 16% and 23%. · Extra fat around ovaries and breast tissue is essential for reproductive health. · Women tend to store more fat in the lower body (pear shape), while men store more around the midsection (apple shape). · Monitoring body fat percentage is more important than focusing solely on weight. [38:30] What is the negative effect of using antibiotics? · Antibiotics can disrupt the balance of bacteria in the microbiome. · Overuse of antibiotics should be avoided to maintain a healthy microbiome. · Supporting the gut lining with supplements like L-glutamine and aloe vera can be beneficial during antibiotic use. · Consider spore-based probiotics or food-based sources for rebuilding the microbiome. · Focus on a diet rich in prebiotics, fermented foods, and polyphenols to support microbiome recovery. Dr William Davis | The Truth About Gallstones, The SIBO & Fatty Liver Connection, How Antibiotics Destroy Your Gut & More! KKP: 608
Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr. William Davis. He provides solutions to health problems by addressing the microbiome, massively disrupted in modern people. He shows readers in his Super Gut book, for instance, how to restore important lost microbes lost such as Lactobacillus reuteri, restored by using a unique method of yogurt fermentation that smooths skin and reduces wrinkles, restores youthful muscle and strength, deepens sleep, reduces appetite and provides many other youth-preserving and anti-aging effects. In Super Gut and in his website, www.DrDavisInfiniteHealth.com, he provides additional do-it-yourself-at-home strategies for benefits such as improved mood, improved athletic performance, better sleep, heightened immunity, and improved body composition. Dr. William Davis is also responsible for exposing the incredible nutritional blunder made by "official" health agencies: Eat more "healthy whole grains." The wheat of today is different from the wheat of 1960, thanks to extensive genetics manipulations introduced to increase yield-per-acre. Eliminating wheat yields results beyond everyone's expectations: substantial weight loss, correction of cholesterol abnormalities, relief from inflammatory diseases like arthritis, better mood, reduced blood sugar with many type 2 diabetics being freed of insulin and other drugs, all articulated through his Wheat Belly series of books. He is also a champion of individual self-directed health, as discussed in his Undoctored book. Dr. Davis lives what he preaches, not having indulged in a wheat-containing bagel, ciabatta, or pretzel in many years, while consuming various fermentation products that yield unexpected health benefits. Dr. Davis lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In this episode, Dr. Davis speaks about the inspiration behind The Wheat Belly lifestyle. Then, Dr. Davis dives into how modern life in America is messing with our microbiome. Many people think that probiotics will solve all their gut problems; however, Dr. Davis explains the issues with the commercial probiotic industry. Plus, Dr. Davis explains why you shouldn't cut fat when it comes to gallstones. Tune in as we chat about supplements, the best microbiome tests, and how metabolic endotoxemia initiates insulin resistance. [00:30] The Inspiration Behind The Wheat Belly Lifestyle Every day, over 200 million Americans consume food products made of wheat. So, Dr. Davis created the Wheat Belly lifestyle. Basically, Dr. Davis dared to write an against-the-grain book exposing "healthy whole grains" for the incredibly destructive genetic monster they've become. Wheat Belly is an illuminating look at what truly makes Americans sick and an action plan to clear our plates of this harmful ingredient. Learn more about Wheat Belly here: https://drdavisinfinitehealth.com/wheat-belly/ [04:20] How Modern Life In America Is Messing With Our Microbiome With each successive generation, the microbiome gets worse and worse and worse. In the US, most people by age 40 have taken 30 courses of antibiotics. There are 800 prescriptions for antibiotics written every year for every 1,000 people. Yes, many people do need antibiotics for certain situations. However, 30-50% of all antibiotics that are dispensed have no benefit to the recipient. [15:05] The Many Problems With Commercial Probiotics There are a lot of problems with the current crop of commercial probiotics. For instance, most probiotics don’t specify strength. Plus, many probiotics don’t tell you what strain you are taking. Failing to specify strain is a major problem. Some companies are doing double encapsulation because they've been fooled into believing that probiotics should survive untouched until it gets to the colon. One in three people has a proliferation of unhealthy stool microbes in the small bowel. So, you don’t want your probiotics to be double encapsulated. That way, it can be released into the small bowel. [20:45] Why You Shouldn’t Cut Your Fat When It Comes To Gallstones People think that fat causes gallstone. However, fat does not cause gallstones. General surgeons are guilty of telling people to cut their fat when taking out a gallbladder. When you cut fat, your gallbladder will store bile instead of squeezing it out. People who present with gallstones typically also have SIBO. If you're really having gal

[04:49] What's the importance of LDL Cholesterol to our body? LDL cholesterol is highly conserved across different species, indicating its importance for life. The immune system uses LDL cholesterol. Low levels of LDL can lead to susceptibility to bacterial infections and cancer. There is ongoing research into the connection between low LDL levels and illness in people, and it has been discovered that some ICU patients have lower LDL levels. Drugs like Repatha and Praluent can drastically lower LDL levels. Still, no long-term safety data has yet to be available, and adverse effects may not always be reported to the database for post-marketing research. [09:17] What are some risks of having high or low LDL levels? Statins have been prescribed for decades, but adverse effects may not be reported until years later. LDL has many functions in the human body, some of which may not have been discovered yet. Studies have shown that people with the lowest LDL levels have higher cancer rates, infectious death, and autoimmune conditions. Some healthcare providers may not understand the human body's basic physiology of LDL cholesterol. [13:57] What's the benefit of presenting research studies to your doctor? Patients can bring research studies to their doctor to start a meaningful dialogue about their medication. Doctors may not be aware of certain research studies due to a lack of time to research every single topic. Pharmaceutical representatives may only present the benefits of medication without mentioning potential side effects or risks. Patients who bring in research studies may see positive results, such as doctors being more willing to adjust their medication dosage or prescribe a different medication. Patients can use their knowledge of research studies to have informed discussions with their doctors about their treatment plans, which could change the trajectory of medical practice. [22:19] Are healthcare and health insurance for better or worse? The healthcare and health insurance business model are not designed to profit from metabolically healthy people who eat a proper human diet. · The origins of health insurance can be traced back to the Nixon administration's wage freeze, which led to companies offering it as a fringe benefit to attract employees. Insurance companies saw an opportunity to make millions and created health insurance products with raised deductibles and lower coverage for profit. The current healthcare system in the United States faces challenges, including rising premiums and th

Dr. Pompa’s father was in the military during World War II and during that time, they doctor themselves. For Dr. Pompa, there is a time and place for antibiotics. One of those instances is when his son, Simon, got bone infection. [3:33] The problem with taking too much antibiotics Antibiotics wipes out microbiomes which is 70-80% of your immune system and it creates immune problems later. After World War II, we all though antibiotic is our savior but we’ve learned a lot this past few decades. Antibiotics created more disease than the number of lives it saved. People get slapped with antibiotics when they have pneumonia or sinus infections. Antibiotics cannot fight viral infections. [12:06] What is the Red Blood Cells' Function and importance to your body? · Red blood cells contain hemoglobin, a combination of heme and globin, comprising cholesterol, protein, and iron. · Red blood cells only have one major function, it’s to carry hemoglobin throughout the body. · Hemoglobin then, in turn, carries oxygen around and delivers it to various parts of the human body. · An important part of the lungs in your body’s oxygen exchange are the alveoli. They facilitate the exchange of the air you breathe in and out, oxygen and carbon dioxide, with the red blood cells, which transport it throughout the body. · Predicting diseases will be made clear through observing these blood cells and them having an “enemy.” Glucose controls when and where blood circulation goes. · The problem comes when that glucose molecule sticks to the hemoglobin, leaving no space for more oxygen to get carried by the RBC. This is called glycation. [23:53] Does Blood Donation Really Help with Diabetes? · Donating blood doesn’t help your chances of having a chronic illness. It’s more complicated than that. · Donating your blood decreases your hemoglobin and hematocrit quickly. That will signal your bone marrow to release red blood cells even though they’re not ready to be released. · Ultimately, it’s a short-term solution to a long-time problem. You aren’t actually going to change anything permanently; everything will just go right back to where it was. · Solving symptoms is fine, but you must eliminate the problem's main root. Usually, these are just the result of a problem with high blood glucose levels. [41:54] Is your blood sugar higher in the morning? Here's what you can do · We live in a world where processed food is easy. It’s easier to prepare and eat and has a long shelf life. · The less processed food you get, the better it is for you. · Having a long eating window will also cause problems for you. It’s caused by feeling full because of all the sugars floating around your body. You must eat food with high fat and protein to alleviate this concern. · The worst thing you can do is to eat late at night, especially past 7 P.M. Your body’s ability to process sugars isn’t as functional as it is during the day, causing the food you eat to be kept as sugar more. · The way to fix morning sugars is to remove the last meal you ate the day before. If you have a habit of skipping breakfast and having lunch and dinner, it’s better to get breakfast and lunch and then skip dinner entirely. Dr Shayne Morris | How Ketone Bodies Change Your Gene Expression by Fixing Gut & Brain Health KKP: 604
Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr. Shayne Morris. He has unique and broad experiences, for over 30 years, in the nutritional industry and scientific community. Trained first in the ways of natural product sourcing, quality, design and manufacturing which, quickly led to the pursuit of a formal education in chemistry, microbiology, and finally a Ph.D. in molecular biology and biochemistry. Passionate about owning a business in the industry, Dr. Shayne Morris also earned a Master’s in Business degree. He is an adjunct professor in chemistry at WSU and is a Certified Nutrition Specialist in the American College of Nutrition. Dr. Shayne Morris has authored a number of peer-reviewed journal articles, scientific abstracts, talks and patents in the areas of biological chemistry, natural products and product development. Recent significant research is focused on our microbiome and the probiotic potential of unique human microbes. As part of Dr. Shayne Morris’ research his lab has developed unique growing and stabilizing methods for important commensal organisms like Bacteroides, Akkermansia, beneficial phage and more. Not only are personalized microbes important the nature of their food and metabolites are equally important to the microbiome as a whole and the human symbiosis. Therefore, prebiotic research has become an inseparable component of the probiotic research and in some cases more impactful than probiotics alone. In this episode, Dr. Shayne Morris opens the show by discussing how he became invested in the microbiome. Ketosis is fantastic for the microbiome; Dr. Morris explains what benefits are taking place in the gut when you’re burning ketones. We have 10 trillion cells in the human body, and each has its own job; Dr. Morris reveals how you can help your cells complete their job as efficiently as possible. [01:10] How Dr. Shayne Morris Got Involved In The Health Space When Dr. Morris got into the health space, there was very little hard science on the miraculous nature of how herbs work. To learn more, Dr. Morris buried himself into the educational side and went after microbiological degrees along with biochemical degrees. It wasn't until the 2000s that we identified the importance of microbes. Remember, we're a human built from about 10 trillion cells. Now, Dr. Morris has a research lab on the microbiome and develops products to improve the microbiome. [08:50] Why Dr. Shayne Morris Is Such A Big Fan of Keto One of the most brilliant aspects of adapting to keto is for people that are struggling with metabolic issues. Every organ in the body can utilize ketones. Ketones can really change the way that mitochondria work. Plus, ketones can affect the oxidative stress that cells are under. On a cellular level, ketones offer so much benefit in terms of their energy production. Lastly, we're genetically predesigned to store fats. [17:20] We Have 10 Trillion Cells, and Each Cell Has Its Own Job We are a complex of 10 trillion cells. Each cell has its own job. For instance, the cells in the eye behave very differently than the cells in the brain. Each and every one of those cells has a very specific set of duties. For a cell to do its job, it needs energy! Overall, we want to generate more positive genetic outcomes on the cellular level. [24:40] How Your Gut Affects Your Whole Body There’s a complexity of color that we see in nature. When you eat different compounds, you are feeding the microbiome. We have to think about the microbiome as the gateway to all the things we need in our bodies. Our gut, anatomically, is the largest immune system. Plus, it is the largest innervated system outside of the brain. The gut controls everything. Your microbiome is what's directing all of the traffic in the body. [30:15] Why Burning Sugar Is Producing More Cellular Inflammation When you look at burning sugar, there's a time and a place. Burning sugar is a quick way to release energy. When you eat sugar, it should come from plants. Sugar and flour are not good sources of carbs. Burning sugar can generate free radicals. When you're flooding the mitochondria with just sugar, it gets overwhelmed. All these signals are going out into the cell

[1:49] Are You Cutting Calories? Start Fasting Instead And See The Benefits! Simply reducing your calorie intake to reduce body fat is a false belief. If you eat less, you burn less, resulting in energy expenditure going down. When you take energy in, you can burn or store it. But what you cannot do is take the stored energy out and burn it. If your insulin is high, you can't burn fat. [8:08] Do Other Hormones Besides Insulin Also Help The Body To Retain Fat? Many factors affect your insulin, but the main one is metabolism. Maintain a low level of insulin. The amount of energy is put in or taken out doesn't matter. You cannot burn body fat if your insulin level is maintained at high levels. Fasting is beneficial because it's the most effective way to lower your insulin. Some foods are more fattening than other foods. For example, even though broccoli and cookies have the same calories, cookies are more fattening than broccoli. [18:31] If You Have Damaged Metabolism, Don't Lose Hope, You Can Rebuild Your level of hunger determines how much and how frequently you eat. You are not consciously in charge of that: you can choose not to eat, but you cannot choose to feel less hungry. It's not about willpower, it's about your appetite. It's not about the calories, it's what's behind those calories. More important: question whether you store or burn the energy that comes to your body. [29:05] The Facts About Type 2 Diabetes and How to Fight It Type 2 diabetes may be controlled, but it leads to heart disease, strokes, and other complications which lead to death. Type 2 diabetes is a straightforward illness to comprehend. Your body has too much sugar and cannot store any more. As a result, it leaks into the blood. When you start measuring it in your blood, you know your sugar storage capacity has been surpassed. And this is going to generate problems. Type 2 diabetes is not a chronic and progressive disease. It is reversible. Changing diet and lifestyle is the step to reverse type 2 diabetes. Older medications such as insulin don't provide organ protection. New medications help to remove sugar from the body, compared to insulin which only moves sugar around. [40:09] What Fasting Techniques Can Force Insulin Down? Find the balance between efficiency and effectiveness. If you choose something too hard, you won't do it. For starters, you could do a 16-hour fast and a two-meals-a-day plan. From there, you could gradually increase your fasting time from 16 hours to 24 and eventually into 36 hour fast, which is the most effective. Thirty-six hours fast just becomes hard because of social reasons. [53:08] Workout While Fasting: Is It Good Or Bad? Listen Here! Your body will typically decide where it will acquire its energy. Your body stores glycogen, and for most individuals, you'll practically never run out of it. When people participate in activities like marathons, you occasionally witness them depleting their glycogen reserves. Keep in mind that, with the exception of the brain, every tissue in your body may use body fa
Dr Richard Johnson | Why it’s Fructose (NOT GLUCOSE) That Drives Insulin Resistance and Metabolic Disease KKP: 602
Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr. Richard Johnson. He is a professor of medicine at the University of Colorado and is a clinician, educator, and researcher. He is board-certified in internal medicine, infectious diseases, and kidney disease and is the founding editor of Comprehensive Clinical Nephrology, one of the main textbooks on kidney disease. 90 Day Heavy Metals Detox Program: http://www.ketokampdetox.com (LIMITED SPOTS) For more than 20 years, he has led research on the cause of obesity and diabetes, with a special interest in the role of sugar (especially fructose) and uric acid. His research has been highly cited, published in top medical journals, and supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health. He is the author of The Sugar Fix and The Fat Switch. Dr. Johnson lives in Colorado with his wife, kids, and two rambunctious puppies. Read Nature Wants Us To Be Fat: https://www.amazon.com/Nature-Wants-Fat-Prevent-Reverse-ebook/dp/B097XMY9VG/benazadi-20 In this episode, Dr. Johnson talks about the inspiration behind his uric acid research. He speaks about the correlation between uric acid, fructose, sugar, and inflammation. Plus, he explains why your body would be producing excess uric acid. Later, we discuss why the keto lifestyle is so powerful and the reason burning calories isn’t the purpose behind exercise. [01:00] About Dr. Johnson and The Inspiration Behind His Research Johnson started studying high blood pressure because it’s such a problem in our country. High blood pressure has something to do with the kidneys and salt. A substance called uric acid seems to be important in what causes high blood pressure. As he studied uric acid, he started to realize it was more than just high blood pressure and gout. Uric acid is actually involved in obesity, metabolic syndrome, and diabetes. Eventually, he found that fructose led to an increase in uric acid. [04:20] What Is The Connection Between High Uric Acid and Inflammation? Our body is made up of protein, carbohydrates, fat, bone, etc. Uric acid is considered a waste product. When we eat meats, drink beer, and eat sugar, these foods can generate uric acid. Uric acid is what is excreted from the body. If uric acid is built up, it can lead to inflammation and gout. 9 million people in the United States suffer from gout. A lot of people have low-grade inflammation in their blood. This inflammation can accelerate diseases like atherosclerosis and heart disease. [09:10] Why Is Your Body Producing Excess Uric Acid? If your uric acid is very high, it increases your risk for mortality. Plus, uric acid is being linked to cancer. Uric acid is involved in the process to make fat. When you eat enough fructose, it triggers uric acid. The body switches from making a lot of ATP to storing the energy in fat. Uric acid is actually important in survival. Humans are very sensitive to fructose. Fructose is in table sugar and high fructose table sugar. [24:20] Why The Keto Lifestyle Is So Powerful Our bodies can make fructose. Potatoes and rice do not contain fructose, but they contain what we call high glycemic carbs, it triggers this response in your body to make fructose. You will start making fructose in response to these carbs. That's why carbs are driving obesity dramatically. The keto diet is powerful because it blocks these two major food groups: fructose and high glycemic carbs. [29:30] The Benefits You Get From Exercise When you exercise, you do things that help the mitochondria regenerate. If the mitochondria regenerate, they can go back to normal. When the function of the mitochondria improves, your energy improves. You can diet all you want, but if your mitochondria are bad, you will also go back to your original weight. When you’re young and gain weight, you can lose it much easier. [38:55] One of the Many Benefits of A Ketogenic Lifestyle When you eat sugar, you have to absorb the sugar. The ability to absorb sugar varies from person to person. If you're eating sugar every day, you're going to absorb the sugar very fast. When you put an animal on a high sugar diet, it will learn how to absorb it fast and absorb it
Dr Lee Know | The Mitochondria Are Key to Understanding Disease, Chronic Illness, Aging, and Life Itself KKP 601
Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr Lee Know. He is a licensed naturopathic doctor and Cannanda's co-founder and Managing Director. This company manufactures Natural Health Products to assist people and animals in living long and happy lives. Dr Lee has always been interested in health and medicine. He thought that, just like others, he would go to a conventional medical school. However, he truly desires to study nutrition, botanical medicine, and all other types of traditional medicine. The problem is that he doesn’t know the path towards it. Moving forward, Dr Lee met a person who introduced him the naturopathic medicine. Since then, he has continued to study the field of medicine he is interested in. Dr Lee Know is also the author of Mitochondria and the Future of Medicine: The Key to Understanding Disease, Chronic Illness, Aging, and Life Itself. This book dives deeper into the scientific understanding of what mitochondria is and how it affects medicine in the future. In this episode, Dr Lee discusses how mitochondria and the ketogenic diet are linked. He also shares tips on how to take care of our mitochondria. Dr. Lee shares his journey in building his company, Cannanda. Aside from that, he talks about what Endocannabinoid System is. Furthermore, Dr Lee tells the difference between THC and CBD and how to ease a dog's anxiety using one of their top-selling products. [8:30] How Does Mitochondria and Ketogenic Diet Relate To Each Other? Mitochondria is very heavily involved in the ketogenic diet, or the benefits of the ketogenic diet really heavily weigh on the mitochondria. There is a strong link between the benefits of the ketogenic diet and how it improves the functioning of the mitochondria. There are incredible success stories of people with Alzheimer's improving their condition by going on a ketogenic diet. Studies on the ketogenic diet and calorie restriction found that you can reverse type two diabetes. [18:15] Are Worried About Your Mitochondria? Get Physically Active and Take Care of It! A sedentary lifestyle has a huge negative impact on the mitochondria Being physically active is the greatest thing you can do for your mitochondria. You need to ensure that you feed your body with the nutrients it needs, but not in the way you introduce excessive calories. The more mitochondria you have, the better everything else works. [27:46] Dr Lee’s Excellent Journey in Building His Company, Cannanda Dr Lee has always been interested in studying the Endocannabinoid system's influence on health. The endocannabinoid system and the mitochondria are both related to homeostasis. Anytime something goes wrong in the body, the endocannabinoid system's job is to jump into action and start the processes needed to bring about healing or bring those processes back towards their balanced state. Medicinal use of cannabis was legalized in Canada, which allowed him to study more, and grew his interest in this field. Dr Lee realizes the need to create a more accessible and economical business for customers to buy. [33:53] How to Activate Endocannabinoid System to Regulate Our Nervous System? The two main components of the Endocannabinoid System are the cannabinoid compounds that our bodies make and the cannabinoid receptors. Cannabinoid receptors have two main types that are often talked about, and that is cannabinoid receptor type one or CB1, and cannabinoid receptor type two or CB2. When you use cannabis and THC, that activates the CB1 receptors, and that's what gets people high. CB2 brings a lot of health benefits when activated. The difference in CB1 is that you won’t be intoxicated. The Endocannabinoid system regulates the nervous system by sending inhibitory signals up the chain. [41:05] THC and CBD: What Is Their Difference and How It Affects The Benefits You Could Get? CBD actually doesn't activate CB1 or CB2 receptors. Unlike THC, which can activate both CB1 and CB2 receptors, when you get CB2 activated from using cannabis, it's actually coming from THC. The best type of product is what they call a full spe
9 Important Blood Tests to Order on Keto - Ben Azadi KKP: 600
9 Important Blood Tests to Order on Keto Don’t guess, test! The more data you have, the more metrics you can analyze for progress and necessary tweaks. I am going to share with you 9 blood tests. Not only will I share them with you, but I will also explain what they mean and the optimal numbers to aim for. The first thing I want you to realize is that the reference ranges on your lab report is not the same as the healthy ranges you should aim for. Lab companies such as LabCorp, Quest and many others, are factoring in your countries entire population who have done these labs before. We live in a sick world of unhealthy people, so why would we aim to be the average of unhealthy people? Instead, I encourage you to aim for the functional reference range. Functional medicine lab ranges are usually much narrower than standard lab ranges. They are labeled “optimal lab values,” meaning anything outside of those optimal values can show patterns and markers that spot trends toward disease. When I give you the suggested reference ranges to hit with the following labs, these are functional medicine lab ranges. How gummed up with sugar are your blood cells? Hemoglobin A1C (hbA1c) measures your average blood sugar from the past 3 months. Your red blood cells carry oxygen to your tissues using a protein called Hemoglobin A. The higher your blood glucose, the more glucose sticks to the hemoglobin A1c protein. How glycated is your hemoglobin? Glycation is a spontaneous non-enzymatic reaction of free reducing sugars with free amino groups of proteins, DNA, and lipids that forms glycated residues. Sugar is sticky (think of cotton candy sticking to your fingers) and this sugar can gunk up your arteries and cells. Our red blood cells keep a record of your behavior. The answer hides in your red blood cells – specifically, your hemoglobin. A1C measures average blood sugars by detecting the glucose stuck to the hemoglobin protein. The higher A1C, the more glucose glycated your protein. Test your hemoglobin A1C to learn your average blood sugar. You can request this test from your doctor. There are also companies who have created A1C test kits to do at the comfort of your own home. A “normal” A1C level is below 5.7%, a level of 5.7% to 6.4% indicates prediabetes, and a level of 6.5% or more indicates diabetes. Within the 5.7% to 6.4% prediabetes range, the higher your A1C, the greater your risk is for developing type 2 diabetes. The functional medicine range of A1C is 5.2% or lower. C-Peptide. C-peptide is a substance that is created when the hormone insulin is produced and released into the body. The insulin C-peptide test measures the amount of this product in the blood. The pancreas makes insulin, but not directly. The beta cells in the pancreas first produce a protein called “proinsulin.” Each proinsulin breaks down to one molecule of insulin and one molecule of C–peptide. Both are released when blood sugar levels get high. The more your beta cells get stimulated for insulin production, the faster you gain weight and create inflammation. While moderate levels lower inflammation, even slightly higher levels have been linked to insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, heart disease, and cancer. C-peptide can give you a good idea if you’ve been overworking your beta cells. The functional medicine range for C-peptide is 0.8 – 3.8 ng/mL. Levels below 0.6 ng/mL (0.2 nmol/L) are a sign of possible beta cell failure and type 1 diabetes. High C-peptide levels indicate that the body is producing too much insulin. Fasting Insulin. This is a great compliment to the C-peptide test. Testing your insulin can reveal hidden problems in the way your body controls your blood sugar, years before they escalate to more serious issues, such as diabetes. In many cases, your blood sugar levels might not change for 10+ years, meanwhile you are getting closer each day to developing diabetes. This is because insulin is working so hard to keep those sugar levels “normal”. After a period, insulin cannot keep up with the demand. At this point blood sugars start to rise, and a diagnosis of prediabetes or diabetes is made. A fasting insulin test allows you to see if you are insulin resistant or on the road to insulin resistance. The standard reference range for a fasting insulin is less than 25 uIU/mL. The functional med

[06:30] Advice For Dealing With Depression The first thing you need is acceptance. In life, the only thing you can be certain of is change. Anything you can do to create peace in your life will be helpful to you. If you want to run away from yourself, how are you going to sit with yourself? Work on dealing with small moments first. [10:40] The Brain and Gut Connection: Depression Is Linked To Leaky Gut About 90% of serotonin is made in the gut. You can help your gut to create more serotonin. Aligning with your circadian rhythm will also improve your brain. Natural light from the sun will significantly improve your circadian rhythm and allow you to get more sleep at night. Women are depleted of vital nutrients, particularly things like DHA in the brain. It takes a woman two years to recover from pregnancy. [14:10] How You Can Reverse Your PCOS For Good PCOS is a syndrome and is related to insulin resistance. Carbs, stress, and not sleeping will raise your blood sugar. Some people are genetically more carb sensitive. Having protein and healthy fats are really key things that make you feel better. If you have too many carbs, you will feel quite foggy. Another thing that improves insulin sensitivity is strength training. [21:30] Sleep Is An Essential Pillar of Health Sleep is going to make everything else in your life easier. The exploration of correlations between vegetable oil consumption, high omega-6 diets, and the prevalence of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's, and macular degeneration. · The four pillars of hazard include pro-oxidative and pro-inflammatory effects, direct toxicity to cells, accumulation in the body and mitochondrial membranes, and nutrient deficiency. Understanding these hazards helps explain the detrimental impact of vegetable oils on overall health. · High omega-6 fatty acids, particularly linoleic acid found in vegetable oils, accumulate in our body fat, cellular membranes, and mitochondrial membranes. This accumulation sets the stage for a biological milieu that is pro-oxidative, pro-inflammatory, directly toxic to cells, and nutrient deficient. · Vegetable oils can be regarded as chronic metabolic, biological poisons rather than acute poisons. While consuming a large quantity of vegetable oil in a single day may not cause immediate harm, the gradual and consistent consumption of these oils over time leads to various diseases due to their chronic toxic effects on the body. · Genetic susceptibility plays a role in determining the diseases individuals may be prone to when consuming a diet high in vegetable oils. However, it is primarily the dietary environment, accounting for approximately 99% of the risk, that triggers the manifestation of these diseases. [04:09] Metabolic Flexibility and Macronutrients Carbohydrates and fats are two of the four major fuels for the body and are often referred to as macronutrients. Many people struggle to process and burn carbs and fats efficiently, frequently favoring one fuel source over another. Metabolic inflexibility refers to the body's inability to process both carbs and fats effectively, whereas metabolic flexibility refers to the body's ability to burn both carbs and fats efficiently. The Met Flex Diet is a six-week program that teaches the body how to effectively burn both fuels by exposing it to carbs and fats and incorporating keto and carb-loading elements. According to scientific evidence, cyclical keto cycling (alternating between periods of ketosis and carbohydrate consumption) can help improve metabolic flexibility. [08:07] Intermittent Fasting: Achieving Metabolic Flexibility Intermittent fasting helps to shift the body into fat-burning mode. Fasting depletes the body of energy from food and glycogen, allowing it to use stored fat as an energy source. By depleting energy from food and glycogen, intermittent fasting attempts to use stored fat as an energy source. A simple approach for beginners or those new to fasting is to wait a few hours after waking up before eating the day's first meal. Sleeping is a form of fasting because no food is consumed during that time. Extending the fasting period after waking up allows for more fat-burning time. [15:04] How do Fasted Cardio Workouts Enhance Fat Burning Fasted cardio involves working out on an empty stomach, usually without eating before the workout and for about an hour afterwards. Fasted cardio may not be appropriate for everyone, so pay attention to your body's signals and adjust accordingly. With depleted stored glucose (glycogen) and no food energy available during a fast, the body relies on fats for energy during the workout. The energy demand during exercise is significantly increased, prompting the body to draw even more energy from fat stores to meet the increased energy requirements. [18:51] Balancing Sleep and Workouts for Fat Loss Sleep is necessary for metabolic flexibility, hormonal rhythms, and body restoration. For optimal health and weight management, it is critical to maintain good sleep hygiene and prioritize adequate sleep. Morning workouts ar

[00:40] The Inspiration Behind Studying What Happens To The Body When We Undereat Lucas had some challenging times while training as a classical ballet dancer. She struggled to make her body do what it needed to do. As a result, Dr. Lucas had major stress fractures in her back and had stress fractures in her feet. To be healthy, Dr. Lucas would eat five grams of fat a day. After going to a doctor, she found out that she was over-exercising and not eating enough. Eventually, Dr. Lucas earned her Ph.D. in sports nutrition and chronic disease. She wanted to study what happens to the body when we undereat. [08:30] How Burning Sugar Is Like A Wood Fireplace Generally, we are carbohydrate or sugar burners. Carb burners are like wood-burning fireplaces. You constantly have to stuff wood in it, so it doesn’t burn out. When people have to eat every three hours, they are running out of sugar to keep their energy up. Fat-burning is like a propane tank; it can go for hours or maybe days. Every cell in the body prefers to burn fat for its fuel. [13:15] What Exactly Is Visceral Fat and What You Need To Know About It Visceral fat isn’t something you can see or pinch. Visceral fat actually fills up in the organs. This fat really gets in the liver. Visceral fat grows its own blood vessels, and it starts to secrete its own hormones. The number one goal of visceral fat is to grow larger. This type of fat will wake you up in the middle of the night and send you to the fridge to eat something. It secretes aromatase, which increases the risk for breast cancer significantly. Overall, visceral fat messes with every aspect of our bodies. [20:30] How To Stop Your Yo-Yo Dieting Habits The first thing you need to do is to recognize why the yo-yo is happening. When you start to lose weight, you will feel better. However, you will still have excess fat that's active and metabolically working against you. When you have that excess fat, your risk of weight regain is really high. You need to understand the importance of fully collapsing the fat mass and getting the body truly where it needs to be. As we age, we're not supposed to get fatter. We actually tolerate fat less because fat is toxic. The next step is to get accountability and get support. [26:50] About PHD Weight Loss and How The Program Works Check out PHD Weight Loss: https://myphdweightloss.com/ First, Dr. Lucas will determine your fat mass and customize a meal plan to fit your goals. [10:49] Saying Yes to Healthier Options Will Help You Replace Unhealthy Habits · Habits and routines drive us, but if they're unhealthy, they don't serve us well in the long term. · Replacing unhealthy habits with healthy ones is key to success. · Learning to say yes to healthy alternatives is important, not just saying no to unhealthy ones. · Jumping over to a healthier lifestyle can lead to a future without regret. · Healthy alternatives like going to the gym, swimming, and sitting in an infrared sauna can make a big difference. · Loving healthy habits will serve better than junk food or half-hearted attempts at healthy living. [14:28] What are some of the things that contribute to weight loss? · If people struggle to lose weight despite having a good diet and exercise routine, the reason may be hormonal or genetics-related. · Ensuring that the thyroid is appropriately assessed and optimized is crucial. · Increasing thyroid function can naturally and safely lead to weight loss and improve low thyroid symptoms, such as depression, constipation, dry skin, and hair loss. · Many people's thyroid is not adequately managed because doctors only check for TSH levels, which can be in the "normal" range but not optimal for the individual. · Comparing thyroid levels to shoe sizes, finding the optimal level for each individual is important, rather than just accepting a "normal" range that may not work for everyone. [32:45] How do meal timing and exercise affect your weight loss? · The timing of when you consume calories affects hormonal effects and energy-burning modes. · Eating a calorie-dense meal late at night when your body is in hibernation mode can lead to more energy storage and difficulties losing weight. · Shifting the timing of meals and exercise can greatly impact weight loss, such as eating earlier in the day and taking a walk afterwards or doing cardio during daylight hours when the body is primed to burn energy. · When we wake up in the morning, our body is in fat-burning mode after digesting dinner from the night before. · Skipping breakfast and doing cardio in the morning before eating can enhance fat-burning mode and create a healthier intermittent fasting pattern. [37:21] Insulin Sensitivity and Its Role in Weight Loss · Insulin is a double-edged sword, helpful for clearing blood sugar out of circulation but harmful in excess, which is why maintaining insulin sensitivity is crucial. · Insulin moves blood sugar out of circulation and into cells but also signals to create fat. · High insulin levels lead to a constant signal to store fat, making weight loss impossible. · Boosting insulin sensitivity through methods like intermittent fasting can help lower insulin levels and make weight loss more possible. Michael wanted to get that information out there to the public. If someone is diabetic, that didn’t happen over the past year. Instead, they have been eating a poor diet for the last ten to fifteen years. Babies are actually born with a built-in preference for sweetness. It’s supposed to help them seek out good-tasting foods. Food companies know that babies and kids prefer sweetness. So that's why 80% of kids’ foods have some type of added sugars. Breast milk does have carbohydrates. Lactose is built from glucose and galactose. However, there's no fructose in natural mother's milk. It's the introduction of fructose that starts to cause problems as well as added sugar. [07:50] When Moms Should Start To Wean The Baby Off of Breast Milk The recommendation is six months. However, there are studies that demonstrate the longer the duration of breastfeeding, the more likely you are to prevent obesity. Plus, the longer you breastfeed, you will promote brain development. If a mom breastfeeds for more than twelve months, those babies are highly protected from obesity, even if they consume high amounts of sugary beverages as a toddler. [05:33] The Amazing Health Benefits of Eating Organ Meat · Eating organ meats provides nutrient density, including vitamins and minerals essential for the body. · Organ meats contain blood, fat, and other elements that were brand new to our species and contributed to the increase in brain size and development of language. · Our species evolved when we started incorporating organ meats into our diet, and this cannot be denied. · Eating organ meats is important for overall health and well-being; without them, our bodies may not have developed to their current state. [09:42] The Problem With Keto & Carnivore: Too Much Muscle Meat! During the war, there was a protein shortage, and the government invested in a campaign to promote alternative protein sources, including organ meats. To make organ meats more appealing, they were renamed "variety meats." When women entered the workforce, there was more household income, and people started to prefer more expensive cuts of meat, contributing to the decline in demand for organ meats. People prefer muscle meat over organ meat because of the loss of familiarity and taste. Thus, local markets no longer carry organ meat, making it harder to source. The most nutrient-dense parts of the animal, such as organ meats, are considered not for human consumption and are used in other industries, which leads to a need for supplements and other sources of nutrients. [22:16] Creative Ways to Use Eat Pluck to Enhance The Nutritional Profile of Your Food! Eating nose to tail is important to get the full range of nutrients from the whole animal. Eating nutrition is better than swallowing because it bypasses the digestive process and immediately responds to the body's needs. The body immediately responds to the nutrient-dense properties of organ meats, much like the way it responds to salt. Kids enjoy eating organ meats and may crave them because their bodies recognize the nutrients they provide. [1:33] The Cell Danger Response – Why The Mitochondria Get BROKEN - If we look at how we make energy, we're moving electrons, which we call the electron transport chain. This is the job of the mitochondria. - In the process, there could be efficient and non-efficient. As we get older, it becomes a less efficient system. - Several factors will influence the fluidity of making energy. - There's a threshold of inflammation that completely shuts down the mitochondria when it is exposed to a toxic environment. - The acid in the body creates resistance, and resistance in the body creates acid. This also translates into inflammation and stress, negatively impacting energy production. - We need to start looking at things increasing the inflammation in our body and start to lower those. [11:00] Are You Stressed? Take Melatonin and Protect Your Mitochondria - Melatonin is the antioxidant that sits and prevents this Cell Danger Response to the shutdown of the mitochondria. - You can take melatonin at night, and it's great for sleep. - When faced with overwhelming stress, they must do more than just one thing. They can't expect just to do the ketogenic diet, and everything turns around. - There are only two antioxidants that can enter the mitochondrial membrane: melatonin and glutathione. - There shouldn't be any fear regarding melatonin because there's no negative feedback loop. You don't shut down your own production; it has no toxicity. [22:12] Learn About The Locus Coeruleus aka The Blue Spot in Your Brain - The blue spot, known as the locus coeruleus, is in the brain's center. - A healthy individual must be able to transfer short-term memory to long-term memory to have healthy mental, emotional, spiritual, and overall well-being. - You want your stress level to be low during sleeping. - When our stress hormones rise, our short-term memory becomes trapped in a vicious loop. - Drug companies are interested in finding something that can impact locus coeruleus. - The ability to consolidate our memories revolves around REM sleep and having low-stress hormones leading up to sleep. - Avoiding alcohol, eating late at night, light pollution, EMF exposure, and turning wifi router off will be helpful to have good REM sleep. [30:56] The Amazing Benefits of Cold Therapy, & Why You Can Do Too Much of it - If you are having difficulty tolerating the cold water, keep your hand out of the water. - Most people can tolerate the suggested three minutes. It can be quite uncomfortable for some people than others. There will not likely be any damage or danger to your cells or tissues. - In the biohacking world, cold therapy is great for having an adaptive response that the body becomes stronger and more resilient in case we have that stressor comes in the future. - If you do cold exposure and you've wiped out the rest of your day, it's a sign you did too much, so you want to find that sweet spot where you feel better and your body's adapting because we know stress is only bad when you don't adapt to it. Temple currently works and lives in St. Petersburg, FL with her husband and their two poodles, Axel and Rowdie. Throughout college Temple developed a very unhealthy relationship with food and began using food rules or diets as punishment or for comfort. This behavior propelled Temple into learning all she could about food and how impacts our bodies, ultimately making her choose to become a Registered Dietitian. Throughout the process, Temple began to learn how to eat for health and how to develop a healthy relationship with food. Along the road, she was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), furthermore increasing her interest in treating the body with nutrition. In this episode, Temple talks about her journey to health and reversing the symptoms of both PCOS and Hashimotos. [02:15] Temple Speaks About Her Journey To Health In college, Temple was losing hair, and she was gaining weight rapidly. Plus, she had no menstrual cycles. When she went to the doctor, they put her on birth control. After moving to Florida to become a dietitian, Temple’s health worsened. Temple was doing exactly what they taught her in dietitian school: eat less, move more, more vegetables, and less fat. Eventually, Temple was diagnosed with both PCOS and Hashimotos. [06:10] How Temple Realized Her Dietitian Training Was Garbage Temple read The Obesity Code: https://www.amazon.com/The-Obesity-Code-Dr-Jason-Fung-audiobook/dp/B01MRKEO0U/benazadi-20 After reading The Obesity Code, she went down a rabbit hole with tons of other resources. She started helping patients in the hospital lower their carbs. Temple did a research study; every single person got off their medications and lost weight after lowering their carbs. [08:30] It Took Three Months For Temple To Reverse Her Hashimoto’s Symptoms Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is essentially an autoimmune disease. A lot of times, Hashimoto’s and PCOS go hand-in-hand. Keto can be so helpful because it takes away a lot of the triggers of the immune system. Through nutrition, Temple was able to get rid of all her symptoms. [16:00] If You’re Starting To Change Your Diet, Try Carnivore Everyone can benefit from a carnivore lifestyle. A lot of people are suffering from something and don't realize it until they go carnivore. If you want to get into ketosis quickly, try carnivore for a couple of days. People who are hitting plateaus can definitely benefit from a carnivore diet. [16:55] Insulin Resistance Is Actually Weight Loss Resistance What's causing the weight to stay on your body could be due to insulin. There are people who have tried every diet in the book. For the most part, people end up lowering calories. However, nothing will work when insulin resistance is up. Weight loss is typically a symptom; it usually comes after you heal your body. [18:45] Strategies For Overcoming A Keto Weight Loss Stall A lot of times, carb cycling can be effective. Complex carbs can help women depending on where they are in their cycle. Temple will also suggest switching up your intermittent fasting routine. The same thing goes for exercise – sometimes you are doing too much! Plus, don’t forget to look at your sleep and your stress. Lastly, you may need to get labs and see what’s going on with your hormones. [21:30] Why Temple Loves To Implement Intermittent Fasting Intermittent fasting is great for weight loss, aging, and protecting the brain. Many people do well fasting for 16-hours and having an 8-hour eating window. A 72 hour fast done quarterly can reset your immune system. Temple will encourage her clients to do what works for them. Dr Rachel Brown & Ally Houston | The Link Between Mental Health and Leaky Gut, The Problem With Evidence-Based Medicine & More! KKP: 583
Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr Rachel Brown & Ally Houston. Rachel is a consultant psychiatrist and functional & metabolic practitioner, while Ally is a Metabolic mental health coach trained by PreKure and Dr Georgia Ede. Rachel and Ally both work as a coach in MetPsy, empowering people with mental illness to use proven diet and lifestyle techniques to heal themselves. They offer Coaching programs for your mental health, no matter where you are in the world. Dr Rachel started her Atkins diet when a family friend introduced it. Over the year, Dr Rachel suffered from sugar addiction. This made her stray from a low-carb diet and instead go to more intuitive eating programs. Not just did it not help her with her addiction, but it left the worst experience for her to remember. Eventually, Dr Rachel managed to go back to a low-carb diet, keto, and more animal-based nutrition. Keto helps her restore her relationship with the foods. Ally suffered from food addiction. Even though his mom cooks delicious and nutritious foods, he still eats cereals, causing the root of his food addiction. For some reason, his weight did not become a problem until he was in his late 20s when he realized his poor metabolic health. Because of his addiction, Ally had several autoimmune diseases. He goes through the conventional way of healing, which only worsens his disease. Ultimately, all of his autoimmune diseases were gone when he changed to a keto diet. In this episode, Dr Rachel and Ally shared how mental health problems and gut microbiome are related. They also discuss the three primary reasons for you having a leaky gut. Furthermore, they discuss why you should not just believe in evidence-based medicine. And lastly, Ally and Dr Rachel discuss why it is best to do your research. [18:49] How Are Mental Health Problems and the Gut Microbiome Connected? - Gastrointestinal microorganisms are involved because they generate neurotransmitters and produce other metabolites that communicate, such as short-chain fatty acids. - Interaction between a wheat, protein and Zonulin component opens up tight junctions, causing leaky gut in everyone, not just celiac disease patients. - LPS can activate immunological resident immune cells in the brain known as microglia. And then, you start a self-perpetuating loop in which immune cells in the brain generate more inflammatory cytokines and free radicals, resulting in oxidative stress and inflammation. - Whatever happens in the gut occurs in the brain and vice versa. [23:51] 3 Lifestyle Behaviors That Cause Leaky Gut! - Diet is the top cause of a leaky gut. - We must be cautious of what we put into our body since it will come into contact with our gut lining and have various effects. - Stress is the second reason you have a leaky gut because it increases intestinal permeability. - Alcohol is the third leading cause. [26:04] How Mental Stress Creates Havoc Inside Your Gut Microbiome - There is brain-to-gut signaling when taking in different sensory perceptions, such as watching or listening to negative news from various sources all the time. - It's possible that stress is triggering our leaky gut. It's also possible that when stressed, we're compelled to eat in ways that aren't good for our gut. - The tight junction system is also found in breastfeeding women, which is why casein is potentially such a massive concern for persons with autoimmune, gut difficulties, or with mental health issues. - Information about the microbiome is still lacking. - Managing gluten, stress, and dairy can help you have a healthy microbiome. [37:11] Do You Only Believe in Evidence-Based Medicine? Here’s What You Need to Know - If we take the research literature as a whole, there's publication bias that comes with it. - The vast majority of information on diet evidence is based on associational data that does not establish one thing or the other and is flawed due to confounding factors within the populations studied. - Imagine discovering that the truth of a subject

[00:30] How Patrick Started Practicing Slow Breathing and Light Breathing After reading articles in the newspaper, Patrick learned how to clear his nasal passages and breathe through his nose. He started to practice slow breathing and light breathing. Through breathing, he was able to influence the temperature of his fingers. Learn more about Patrick by reading his book Atomic Focus: https://www.amazon.com/Atomic-Focus-Resilience-Breathing-Exercises-ebook/dp/B09D9ZL9HL/benazadi-20 [07:15] The Problem With Crowded Teeth and Breathing If the teeth are crowded, your jaw is too small. If your jaw is too small, there’s not enough room for the tongue. So, the tongue is more likely to encroach the airway. When your airway is compromised, you may get disordered breathing during sleep. A palate expander is something that can be useful to improve breathing. [16:40] The Problems That Can Develop With Chronic Mouth Breathing Yawning excessively can be a clue to mouth breathing. Whenever Patrick works with a student, he tries to switch them from mouth breathing to nose breathing as much as possible. He also works on functional breathing patterns. Light breathing helps ensure the blood chemistry is normal. You’re more likely to breathe light through your nose. By changing our breathing patterns, we can stimulate the vagus nerve. [21:55] Patrick Explains How You Should Breathe Through Your Nose Bring your attention to your breathing. Slow down your inhale, and have a slow, gentle exhalation. When you need to breathe in, take in a gentle inhalation. At the end of the inhalation, bring a feeling of relaxation to the body. When you do this correctly, you will feel air hunger. As you do this for two to three minutes, check the saliva in your mouth. Normally, it increases. When the human body undergoes stress, the mouth goes dry. While on the other hand, when we slow down our breathing, we should have more saliva in the mouth. [38:40] Why Patrick Recommends Mouth Tape Before Sleep Mouth tape can bring you so many benefits. 50% of people wake up with a dry mouth in the morning. Breathing through your mouth at night can wreak havoc on your dental health. Mouth breathing will cause more sleep disruptions. Breathing through the nose will make it so you don’t have to wake up as much in the middle of the night. Ben uses Somnifix mouth tape, you can get it here: https://www.somnifix.com/?rfsn=3778298.e05929&utm_source=refersion&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=3778298.e05929 [49:00] Resources To Check Out That Patrick Recommends Patrick highly recommends reading his book, THE BREATHING CURE: Develop New Habits for a Healthier, Happier, and Longer Life. [03:26] Spending Your Money on Supplements but Still Not Feeling Well? Every cell in our body has this priceless membrane, which permits all the nutrients from your diet, all the hormones, oxygen, and nutrients you need to feel well to pass into the cell. When that cell beat membrane becomes inflamed, you can't get the good stuff in, despite taking all the good stuff. The cells become more toxic, and they start producing less energy. In simply put, you just don't feel good. [11:35] The root cause of cellular membrane inflammation There's another chemical called glyphosate that we weren't even exposed to as kids, that it is sprayed on all of our food. Studies show that this allows the chemicals we inherit that have already been exposed to move deeper into our bodies and brains. Consequently, this causes cellular inflammation. Neurotoxins are toxins that drive deep into the brain and nerve tissue, and they bioaccumulate, which means that this is no in-and-out exposure. Vegetable oils, canola oil, and all seed oils enter these fatty membranes and cause cellular inflammation. [16:50] The Shocking Link Between Toxins & Diabetes! We think of type two diabetes, especially, as just a food problem. Toxins make their way around the membranes, causing resistance to insulin resistance. Toxins are also driving autoimmune, which is a part of thyroid and diabetes, which people don't realize their own immune system can drive inflammation attacking the receptor sites, even the hormones themselves. Now we're fighting our own bodies. We know it's not just eating sugar. We know that toxins are actually a big problem. There are probably many people out there with insulin resistance or diabetes that are saying, I've changed my diet. I do everything well, yet I still can't seem to get this under control." Because you never dealt with the toxic issue at the cellular level. [25:02] Close to 100% of Americans have some form of autoimmune disease! It's estimated that 95% of Americans has some form of autoimmune. Hyper immunity is autoimmune, where your immune system is overreacting. It's simply most often the symptom of, I just don't feel good, I don't know why, and I've tried everything. That means your body could be attacking itself. It can be 2030 years later. [25:57] Turning off Bad Genes: How can you make it happen? Any stressor can trigger a gene. But it's mostly these types of toxins that we're talking about that have the ability, the strength to trigger the gene. There are certain bacteria in our gut that we need in a certain number to make cells called T regulatory cells. Those cells tell your immune system that everything's okay, calm down, and don't overreact. Your hard drive is what you got from your parents, but it's the software that ran all your function. [32:44] Why Are Women More Prone to Thyroid Conditions? Women are more hormonally in tune. Their thyroids are more fragile as a whole. [33:34] How can you get Mercury out of your brain? Real detox is a cellular issue, meaning that when our bucket is filling and overflowing, our cells detox pathways

Bitten Johnsson | The Real Cause of Sugar Addiction (& How to Break Free) For Amazing Results KKP: 578
Today, I am blessed to have here with me Bitten Johnson. It has been 27 years since Bitten started her journey into food addiction, which she now calls “Sugar Addiction.” Over the years Bitten has had the good fortune to collaborate with many professionals and treat thousands of people worldwide. Through these collaborations, Bitten have developed a deep understanding of the brain disease addiction and she has developed a unique treatment method called Holistic Addiction Medicine. Bitten has trained many professionals in her native country and now it is time to bring Holistic Medicine for Addiction (HMA) to you. All addiction begins in the brain, regardless of the drug, so Bitten works with ASAM’s definition of Addiction Interaction Disorder which aims to correct the dysfunctions of the brain’s circuitry. The word addiction comes from the Latin word “addicere” which means being a slave to something. Addictions are powerful and lead to hundreds of deaths every day. Bitten is a registered nurse, addiction specialist and ADDIS®/SUGAR® authorized (addiction screening, assessment and diagnostic tools) and currently offer courses and training for professionals. Today there are many very skilled counselors all over the world to whom Bitten refers any clients that contact her. Bitten’s mission is to bring knowledge and experience to others so that more people are able to diagnose and treat this fatal disease, addiction, in order to free people from this painful illness and to decrease shame and stigma. In this episode, Bitten talks about becoming an expert on sugar addiction. Once you realize that addiction is something going on in your brain, you can start to heal. Bitten explains how you can tell the difference between someone who is an addict and someone who is a harmful user. Later, we talk about how sugar addicts can start the keto diet and whether or not you need to stay away from natural sweeteners. Tune in as Bitten explains why an “LSD” trip can be a fantastic tool on your journey to health. [00:45] How Bitten Became An Expert on Sugar Addiction Growing up, Bitten was obsessed with sugar cubes, chocolate, and ice cream. In nursing school, Bitten learned that you suppress your appetite if you smoke. So that's why she started smoking. Then, Bitten became an alcoholic. Addiction is about the brain and how your brain reacts to substances. At age 33, Bitten fell in love with addiction medicine. Bitten knew that she was using ice cream and chocolate the same way she would use alcohol. [13:00] Addiction Is All About What Is Happening In Your Brain You can be addicted to something with just small amounts. Addiction is all about what is going on in your brain. You don’t have to eat a lot or drink a lot to be an addict. As time goes on, you will increase how much you are drinking or eating. Each drug that comes into your life, you become addicted to faster and faster. [15:10] How To Identify Whether or Not Your Addiction Is Real There’s a difference between harmful use and addiction. You need to figure out which one you have because there will be different treatments. Harmful users are emotional eaters. They eat when they are sad, happy, stressed, etc. There are all kinds of reasons why people will overeat. Ask a harmful user, “why?” There will be an answer. You can’t ask “why” to addict because it's a primary illness; it doesn't have a cause. Instead, you need to ask addicts how you can help them. Some problems that addiction will cause: Eating alone Poor economy Poor health Poor relationships Mood swings Loss of energy [28:45] How To Start Living a Ketogenic Lifestyle if You’re An Addict The keto diet is the best diet for broken brains and for addicts. You will need tremendous support going from junk foods to keto foods. Screen yourself for sugar addiction on Bitten’s website here: https://www.bittensaddiction.com/en/addiction/sugar-addiction/ Remember, addiction is a serious brain illness. The more symptoms you have, the longer you've had it, the more severe it is. So, it’s critical to find support before starting the journey to keto. [39:15] It’s Not What You Think: Take An LSD Trip To Improve Your Health To increase insulin sensitivity, you have to walk a long slow distance (LSD). An LSD trip is one of Bitten’s favorite tools. If you’re going from junk food to keto, you need tools in your toolbelt. One great tool is LSD walks. Promise yourself that you wil

However, calories do count. · It should work for you for a long time but as we age, our bodies change and what used to work isn’t going to do so forever. · What really matters the most is the nutrient density of what you eat. · Dixie firmly believes that our bodies and brains have hunger and satiety signals due to the endocrine system’s influence. · Counting calories is difficult because of all the mathematics involved. · When you think more about nourishment and pleasure through nourishment then you’re more focused on something that’s more sustainable and pleasurable. [14:46] Common Misconceptions on Losing Weight · You could be breaking down muscle if you’re doing too much cardio or excessive exercise due to your goals. · Metabolic meters lie to you regarding the calories you lost during workout. What’s showing you is what would you have burned with your basal metabolic rate sitting on the couch plus the additional calories burned. · The human body is not a math equation, a calculator, or a bank account. It’s a very complex and amazing chemistry lab. We all need to stop treating it like a calculator and start treating it as a beautiful creation. · If you can find something that you love and brings you joy, you’re going to get pleasure from it, and it’ll be a nice experience for you. · A lot of people look at exercise as something they’ll have to suffer through just to burn calories. Because of that it’s going to be fleeting and not last very long. [36:15] A Morning Routine to Own Your Day · If you wake up in bed and just start running through and think you have to do a lot of stuff, it basically turns your hormones on, such as Cortisol to start the day. · How you start your day should almost be a blueprint for how you want your day to go. · Dixie’s pro tip is to not put your phone in your bedroom. You can’t have a phone face indent. · Set your intention for the day. You’re not going to get it if you are looking at your cell phone the whole time. [45:08] The Nourishment Mindset & Cholesterol Paranoia Syndrome · Her favorite chapter is called CPS, cholesterol paranoia syndrome. · There are so many people walking around with side effects taking statins. The number needed to treat is insane. · Dixie isn’t saying statins should go away but there are also people who propose stagnating the water in certain countries. · She hopes that someone can just say that there’s another story to it because she believes that a lot of people are swallowing statin pills just for insurance. Dr Joan Ifland | How To Break Your SUGAR ADDICTION To Lose Weight & LIVE LONGER! KKP: 574
Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr. Joan Ifland. With the publication of her textbook, Processed Food Addiction, Dr. Ifland is considered to be the world's leading expert in processed food addiction. Backed by new technology developed in the textbook, Dr. Ifland has developed cutting-edge innovations in online programs addressing compulsive overeating and diet-related diseases. With the introduction of RESET WEEK and the Daily Addiction Reset Community (Daily ARC), Dr. Ifland has brought recovery from compulsive overeating to a new level of effectiveness. Her programs are easy to access. They save time and money for members while engaging participation for the long run. Members who have not had control over food since early childhood are now able to eat planned, healthy meals. In this episode, Dr. Ifland talks about the inspiration behind her career in processed food addiction. If you're starting to ditch processed foods, it can be hard to go out with friends or be at home with your family for the holidays. It would help if you started associating processed foods with how they make you feel. Dr. Ifland dives into how the food industry and the pharmaceutical industry are making people's health much worse. Tune in as we chat about breaking a food addiction and the problem with most dietitians. [00:40] Why Dr. Ifland Was Inspired to Start A Career In Processed Food Addiction Ifland had two pregnancies back-to-back. After that, she became a yo-yo dieter. She would try only to eat 1200 calories a day. However, this was making her processed food addiction worse. There are court documents that reveal companies took the tobacco addiction model and transferred it to sugar for children. It's not normal to think about food when you're not hungry. Americans think about food obsessively. After ditching processed foods, Dr. Ifland got rid of her brain fog, bloating, and a sinus infection. Plus, she was losing two pounds a week. Over 70% of the country in the US is now overweight or obese. Americans are deeply addicted to processed foods, and they don’t even know about it. [12:25] You Need To Associate Processed Foods With The Pain You Feel Just because everyone is eating something, that doesn’t mean you should eat it too. You need to associate certain foods with the pain you feel from them. For instance, “I don’t eat that because it gives me a headache.” You want to retrain brain cells to associate foods with the pain you feel. [16:55] You Can Addict Any Human To Any Substance If You Get Them Young Enough Smoking used to be the leading cause of preventable death globally. Now, diet-related diseases are the leading cause of death in the world. Smoking and diets are based on the same business model. The business model goes like this: Advertising Availability Affordability Young age of onset Hidden addictive product formulation The younger someone is when you addict them, the harder it will be for them to overcome the addiction. [32:20] Overeating Is An Addiction Done To You By The Food Industry It takes years to go to a social situation and not be bothered by people eating processed foods. The conformance tribe is significantly activated by food and by people you know well. The better you know a person, the more likely they will be able to trigger you into eating something bad. Overeating and diet-related diseases were done to you for profit by the food industry. [36:45] Free Donuts For Anyone Who Gets A Vaccine! There is corruption in the pharmaceutical industry. 60% of Covid deaths are in people who have an underlying diet-related condition. People wouldn't have been able to eat enough processed foods to get a condition unless their addiction was driving them. The message to the world should have been about metabolic health. The addiction business model is also used by the pharmaceutical industry. [42:10] True or False: Sugar Addiction Is Not A Real Thing Dietitians are the “professional” arm of the processed food industry. The medical community is the marketing arm of the pharmaceutical industry. 40% of dietitians work for the processed food industry. If you’ve been to a conference for dietitians, they are sponsored by Kraft and Nabisco. Luckily, many dieticians are rebelling against processed foods. [6:21] Your Health Symptoms Are Not The Problem · The core philosophy in functional medicine is to get to a disease’s cause. · You’re not only going to address a symptom but also understand how all of our organ systems interact. · Our bodies are like kinetic chains. A chain has individual links, and all it takes is one link to be off, which will throw off the entire chain. · One of the things that Dr Radich’s book talks about are how the usual healthcare system fails at this. · In regular healthcare, there is no communication between the healthcare professionals that handle a certain patient. · Integrative medicine focuses on connecting the dots, helping people appreciate how organ systems integrate and how these chemical reactions affect each other down the line. [16:56] The Root Cause of High Blood Pressure & How to Reverse It! · Dr Radich lists one of the causes of obesity because he believes high blood pressure is a lifestyle disease. · The only exception is if you have genetic deficiencies like having only one kidney or being born with vascular issues. · High blood pressure means your blood gets too thick. It makes it difficult to pump it throughout the body. It’s like pumping oil instead of water, which Dr Radich believes to be all manifested by lifestyle changes. · Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the US. It ultimately comes back to unhealthy choices in your diet. · Simply switching to a healthier diet, exercising, minimizing stress, and sleeping well are mostly in the population’s control but fail to execute, causing the prevalence of the disease. [31:28] Our Favorite Health Bio-Hacks For Longevity · Dr Radich’s answer to how long he wants to live is not quantitative but qualitative. · It doesn’t matter to him if he lives past 100 or not. He is a happy camper and doesn’t care what health reports show him. · The most important thing is that he can do whatever he wants in his life. Like being able to play golf more or being able to recover quickly after playing a tennis match. · He cares more about helping people be their best selves. To him, it means less pain, better mobility, better athletic performance, and better digestion. [41:18] What is Dr Radich’s Favorite Biohacking Device? · For Dr Radich, the best ROI for an individual would be hyperbaric oxygen. · He chose that because it is one of the most critical components to longevity and regeneration of the human body. · Hyperbaric oxygen is one of the most influential regenerative modalities because it activates and stimulates stem cells and creates new blood vessels. · If your body can circulate better, it will heal better. Candace Horbacz | What Does Porn Do to Your Brain? Controversial Thoughts From a Former Adult Entertainment Star KKP: 571
Today, I am blessed to have here with me Candice Horbacz. She spent the past 12+ years working in the adult industry and started out when she was just around 19. That is obviously not living life on tiptoe; rather, embracing it with open arms. Everyone's probably had a moment where you just felt pulled to something, and you couldn't articulate it and understand its nature. But you just knew that that's where you were supposed to be at that time, and that’s how Candice got into the adult industry. Candice didn't believe she would have lasted at a regular job if she hadn't been able to step into her feminine power and use that as a means to have radical confidence, tap into her sexuality, and have this ultimate form of freedom that she didn't see elsewhere. According to her, it wouldn't have worked if someone had told her where to be, how to dress, how long to work, or where to work. It would have been too much control. For the majority of her career, she was a contract star, which was what she desired. It appeared to be the simplest, most foreseeable method to have predictable income control. To let the people she was filming know exactly what was going to happen on set and to feel in control. But this was not the case, and instead, people kept pushing her boundaries. Candice ended up starting her production company. Now, she has an agency where they're helping creators own their own content. They help them realize their worth, and potential and encourage them to diversify and use content creation as a stepping stone rather than a means to an end. The beginning: Over ten years ago, Candice started webcamming while getting her degree in Psychology. As she became increasingly mainstream (HUGE!) in the adult entertainment industry (Eva Lovia), she experienced a gamut of experiences: from webmasters trying to steal her name to having been wrongfully terminated from a massive contract for standing up for herself. When she finally left the mainstream industry, she felt passionate about supporting other creators to be empowered and protected with their content. The present: Now, Candice is an Investor & Co-Founder of an agency for content creators (both adult & mainstream) alongside her husband. Furthermore, with her newfound passion for health & wellness, she has been hosting, investing, and participating in wellness retreats that use psychedelics to improve her mental health, her wellness, and her relationships - as someone who has had a long journey of exploring the mind and connection to spirituality In this episode, Candice speaks about how can you secure your future and follow your passion. She talks about her experiences in the adult industry and how she made the shift to be aligned with what she wants to do in her life. Tune in as Candice talks about dealing with criticism, pressure and stress, OnlyFans, addiction to pornography and Hormone Replacement Therapy for women. [06:55] What can you do with dealing with criticism from other people? Candice had a lot of people cut her off and some people never bridged that gap, even certain family members. People are our mirrors, and how you present yourselves to one another reflects how you feel about yourself and your own journeys. If something makes us feel viscerally or strongly, it probably has more to do with us personally. The most significant people in Candace’s life still care about her despite her choices. She can screw up and they won't leave her. It's unconditional love and acceptance. [12:36] Do what is right from your heart and put everything you say into action. Candice was making decisions based on fear like, she has to keep shooting because of the scarcity mindset that she had around finances, and not truly believing that she could be successful on her own. Regardless of what industry you work in, no matter who you work for, it takes you to make a big bold move to understand your own worth. [19:04] OnlyFans: An effective way to make money while still treating your body and yourself with respect. There are creators on there that are not explicit at all. There are comedians, cooks, and personal trainers. You can make it whatever you want. If you do want to. There's probably 15-20 % that are operating aboveboard, but they're not trying to s

Dr. Tom is the founder of theDr.com and the visionary behind ‘The Gluten Summit – A Grain of Truth’, one of the first online summits, that brought together 29 of the world’s experts on the Gluten connection to diseases, disorders, and a wide-range of symptoms and ages. Creator of the groundbreaking documentary series “Betrayal: The Autoimmune Disease Solution They’re Not Telling You”, Dr. Tom led a global investigation with the world’s leaders in health, into why our immune system, designed to protect us, begins attacking our own tissue (autoimmunity). Currently, over 500,000 people worldwide have watched the Docuseries Betrayal. His 2016 critically acclaimed ground-breaking book, ‘The Autoimmune Fix’ outlines the step-by-step development of degenerative diseases and gives us the tools to identify a dis-ease process years before the symptoms are obvious. [01:00] Dr. Tom Speaks About His Health Problems Tom had cognitive issues and chest pains. By the time he was 42, Dr. Tom started to have vision problems. Tom had a cataract. An asymmetrical cataract in a 42-year-old guy is unusual. After doing some research, Dr. Tom saw that lead poisoning could trigger his health issues. When Dr. Tom tested himself for lead poisoning, he had the highest levels of lead that he had ever seen. Tom grew up one block from the Ford assembly line with no government regulations for heavy metal filtration. He was sucking in a lot of lead as a kid. [16:30] Five Pillars That Contribute To Chronic Disease Intestinal permeability is a Zonulin modulated mechanism. When you have too much Zonulin being secreted, your cells are open too much, too frequently, and too large. All disease begins in the leaky gut. There are five mechanisms that create the perfect storm in developing chronic inflammatory diseases: Genetics Environmental Triggers The impact of the environmental triggers on the microbiome in your gut Leaky gut Systemic inflammation in the body [37:25] You Have 10 Times More Bacteria In The Gut Than All The Cells In The Human Body A teaspoon of poop has more bacteria than all the stars in the known universe. Every forkful of what you put in your mouth will feed good bacteria or bad bacteria. It will take months and months and months to change the environment of your microbiome. Taking a capsule of probiotics each day will not fix your gut. [40:20] Most Bacteria In Your Gut Have 100 To 150 More Genes Than The Entire Human Genome Are we really humans with a whole lot of bacteria? Or are we bacteria having a human experience? Genes determine function; every scientist knows that. The genes that get activated stimulate the production of the proteins that determine action. Is bacteria running the ship, or are genes running the ship? [42:10] 36% of All The Molecules In Your Bloodstream Are The Metabolites From The Gut Bacteria produce exhaust; that exhaust is called the metabolites. Those metabolites get into your bloodstream. 36% of all the small molecules in your bloodstream are the metabolites of the microbiome. The more bacteria you have, the stronger the message. Whenever you have brain dysfunction, you need to fix the gut. Remember, all disease begins in the gut. Dr Christy Sutton | IRON OVERLOAD: Warning Signs of Having Too Much Iron, How to Reverse Hemochromatosis & More! KKP: 569
Today I am fortunate to have Dr. Sutton. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Anatomy, and Health and Wellness in Texas State University and Parker University . She received her Doctorate of Chiropractic from Parker University. Her serious personal health issues, such as being diagnosed with Crohn's disease at the age of 16, drove her to pursue a career in health care. Her passions include supporting her patients in avoiding health problems and becoming as healthy and pain-free as possible without the use of medications or surgery. She is more interested with identifying and treating the underlying issue than with masking the symptoms. She now lives in Dallas, Texas, with her beloved husband and daughter. In this episode, Dr Christy talks about what epigenetic is and what it does to our gene. She also talks about why improving your methylation increase your advantage in fighting toxins. It stands for “Beyond Genes” The environment is going to influence what genes get expressed, and what your health is like. Find your genetic landmines and avoid them. [7:59] Improve your Methylation and Increase Your Advantage in Fighting Toxins Methylation is adding a carbon group from basically one area to the other. Methylation changes the chemical structure which changes the epigenetics. There are seven different detox pathways. And methylation is a key one that's very important for hormones and toxins. The world we live in becomes more toxic, so we need to adapt and become smarter. You need Vitamin B to activate methylation gene. [02:30] 3 Steps to Reprogram Your Mind: Authority, Intensity and Repetition · Authority is when someone comes to you with a message, and you don't have any reference point. · Intensity is when the message has an emotional impact, while the subconscious mind is when you focus on decisions. · Repetition is when you create a dangerous emotional imprint in the subconscious mind. The problem is when this map of reality is not consistent with your goals, then you need to evaluate your beliefs and then start to change them subconsciously. · The inductive mind is the creative mind that imprints information into the subconscious mind and looks for coincidences with the idea. · The inductive mind is the creative mind, and the subconscious mind is the set goal. The reticular activating system is an area in our mind that opens up when we focus on something, allowing us to see things that were not there before. [22:29] The Impact of Food Consumption on Our Conscious and Subconscious Mind. · Social influences on food intake refer to the impact that one or more persons have on the eating behavior of others, either direct (buying food) or indirect (learning from peer's behavior), either conscious (transfer of beliefs) or subconscious. · Observation and food consumption elicit positive affective responses, stimulating food intake. It revealed that the observation and consumption of food activate brain regions related to affective processing. · When we have enough energy, conscious deliberation enables us to make good decisions. The unconscious, on the other hand, seems to operate fine with low energy. [28:35] Fix Your Circadian Rhythm to Lose Weight · A nucleus is an area in the brain behind the eyes responsible for telling the time. When the sun releases blue light, it triggers the release of neurotransmitters, such as melatonin, which is the one that leads to going to sleep. Melatonin is produced during the morning and used later at night. · Light produces endorphins in the eyes, which synchronize the system to get BC and do physical exercise. This is due to the rhythm in cortisol that starts to go up whenever you see the first hours of the morning and the light, which is why we don't use fasting glucose anymore as a valid test. · When exposed to sunlight, you produce the vitamin D necessary to gain muscle mass. However, if you avoid sunlight, for whatever reason, you are more inclined to lose muscle mass due to the missing part of vitamin D. · Vitamin D is an antioxidant. If you consume a lot of ultra-processed carbohydrates, you are using your firehose with carbohydrates instead of getting this vitamin, getting the processes to lower other general inflammation. [40:08] Natural Light vs Artificial Light; How This Influences Weight Loss · When people take sunshine, their anxiety goes down, but when they are anxious, they crave sweets and salty foods. · When they are sleep deprived, they start their day with higher-than-normal glucose levels, and if they exercise, they will have a glucose spike. [01:10] Dr. Martone Had Years of Back Pain All Because of His Sleep Position Martone has always had back pain. He attributed it to working out a lot and being super active. Eventually, Dr. Martone ended up in the emergency room with a herniated disc. After looking at thousands of x-rays, Dr. Martone can tell what position people sleep in. Martone realized that his back pain was a result of his sleep posture. In the spine, you’re supposed to have a curve in your neck. If you’re using a pillow in the wrong position, then it can flatten the curve. [08:00] Is It True That The Best Sleep Position Is On Your Side? The best sleeping position is on your back. There’s a study that shows side sleeping is best for lymphatic drainage. When you're horizontal, your body actually heals at night. Lymphatic drainage will detoxify the neural tissue in the body. The nervous system is the most important system of the human body; your spine protects that nervous system. So, we should be focusing on our spinal structure when sleeping. [12:45] Wolff’s Law and Davis’s Law Will Determine How Your Body Adapts If you constantly stress the tissue, the body will adapt by building more tissue. Wolff’s Law states that if you don’t use it, then you lose it. If you sit in a chair all day long, your brain will atrophy. Davis’s Law states that the tissue will remold itself based on the stresses you’re putting on it. You can mold your body based on what your tissues are exposed to. If you’re constantly in one position all day long, then you will lose the cervical curve in your neck. [15:15] These Common Symptoms Means Your Sleeping Posture Is Incorrect If your spine is damaged, it can cause serious side effects. Spine damage can alter your: Ability to lose weight Digestion Ability to take a deep breath Your sleep position can suppress your immune system, digestive system, and reproductive system. If you have autoimmune issues, breathing issues, or chronic digestion issues, then you should take a hard look at your sleeping position. [25:10] Heart Rate Variability (HRV) Has A Strong Connection To Your Sleep So your body has two systems, you have your thrive systems, and then survival systems. The thrive systems include reproductive, digestive, and immune. Your survival systems are engaged to keep you alive. These include your body temperature, your skeletal system, and your cardiovascular system. Your body is growing, healing, and nurturing at night. Your heart rate is very irregular at night. The HRV is an algorithm that measures the variability of the heart and can give you a score. The more variable your heartbeat is, in general, the healthier you are. You want a higher HRV. [30:10] Sleep With Your Arms and Your Legs Uncovered – Dr. Martone Explains Why The core temperature of your body needs to cool very rapidly in order to get really good deep sleep. You don't want to have your hands and your feet under the covers. Your body only cares about the core temperature; it does not care about your hands and your feet. Don’t wear socks to bed! [6:32] What is the Cause of Celiac Disease, and Can It Be Reversed? · You’re more likely to react physically to wheat from the United States. · Wheat in the U.S. has been specifically bred to grow faster and resistant to drought and weather conditions like wind and rain. · This feature caused the wheat to be more allergenic to most people. · A European breed of wheat, however, even though it still has the particles of gluten, won’t give you as many reactions as someone usually would. · Anything that comes into your bloodstream gets an immune response due to its foreign nature. Your body sometimes gets it wrong, and because of the confusion, it mounts an immune response against itself. [16:09] Should You Get a Microbiome Test? Is it worth it? · Dr Trubow loves food sensitivity testing. The one she uses the most is Alletess because they have a lot of testing, great accuracy, testing modality, ease of use, and, most importantly, a good price point. · She likes to do it about every two years with her patients. This is because its easier to compare than when you do it frequently. · She had her food sensitivity testing done during the early COVID era, and she thought they made a mistake with her results because it was too good to be true. · Compared to her test 15 years ago, which stated that she was sensitive to more than 50% of food, it was night and day. · She believes food sensitivity testing is a good guidepost for where you want to proceed. [29:05] How Do Toxins Work? Here's the truth about toxins! · You can’t just say what you were or weren’t exposed to throughout your day. Toxins do not work that way. · Other than that, it’s very difficult to identify what toxins you were exposed to in the first place because they are everywhere. · You cannot escape toxins; therefore, you should just make sure that your detoxification pathways are working properly, so your body can get rid of them efficiently. [41:44] Is Alcohol in Moderation Healthy For You? · There is a study that states that it is a common theme for centenarians to have alcohol present in their diet. · Dr Trubow compares it to having a glass of poison. It might taste good or not, depending on the person but at the end of the day, it will impair some internal organs, and you’ll realize that it’s not a very good investment if you want to live longer. · Wendie says it’s better to drink something like a dry farm wine because it doesn’t contain pesticides. She also advises diluting it with another drink and sipping it slowly. · Moderation is to a week, not to a day. AND MUCH MORE! Resour

He holds a BA in English and Creative Writing from the University of Michigan and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Columbia University. Apple is the author of Ravenous American Parent, and Schlepping Through the Alps. He has published short stories, personal essays, satires, and journalistic features on a wide range of topics. In recent years, he has primarily written about science and health. His work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Wired, The Los Angeles Times, The Financial Times Magazine, ESPN The Magazine, The MIT Technology Review, and McSweeney’s, among many other publications. Schlepping Through the Alps was a finalist for the PEN America Award for a first work of nonfiction. In this episode, Sam talks about the inspiration behind his book Ravenous: Otto Warburg, the Nazis, and the Search for the Cancer-Diet. Plus, Gary Taubes inspired him. Sam was really surprised to learn that that cancer was associated with diabetes, insulin resistance, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. He wanted to dig further on the connection between cancer and metabolic disease. [02:10] The Nazis Protected Warburg For His Cancer Research In 1923, Warburg makes this famous discovery called the Warburg Effect. Cancer cells take up a lot more glucose than other cells and burn it without oxygen; they ferment it, just like microorganisms do. Warburg also has made other discoveries about how cells breathe and use oxygen. He wins the Nobel Prize in 1931. In 1933, the Nazis come along. Despite having a Jewish father and being openly gay, the Nazis protected Warburg because they were interested in his cancer research. [06:50] Warburg’s Studies Started To Disappear After The War After the war, Warburg’s cancer research really starts to disappear. Australia in the 1950s famously discovered the structure of DNA. Eventually, we had a new sort of genetic understanding of cancer where we can now identify specific mutations. So, how cells take up glucose and shift their metabolism was considered irrelevant because of the study of genetics. Warburg’s studies take peoeple back to diet, and there’s a huge bias against taking diet seriously. [12:20] What Sugar Does To Promote Cancer Growth If cancer is about these metabolic shifts inside of a cell, what is it about the way we eat that affects the way a cell eats? In America, one out of three women are diagnosed with cancer within their lifetime. For men, it's about one in two. Cancer is closely linked to obesity. 13 of the deadliest cancers have been solidly linked to obesity. Sam wanted to know if obesity was causing cancer or if something was driving both. Elevated levels of the hormone insulin are responsible for obesity and give microscopic cancers a chance to grow and thrive. What is it about our diet that causes insulin to rise? Sugar! The increase in sugar consumption maps pretty closely to the rise of diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. [19:30] How A Keto Diet That Will Help You Prevent Cancer Sam is a huge believer that keto is a logical way to prevent cancer. The single most important thing you can do to improve your odds for cancer prevention is to keep your
Dr Matt Halpert | Why Supporting Your Immune System is the KEY to Fighting Cancer Effectively & How Immunotherapy Works KKP: 563
Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr Matt Halpert. He has a doctorate in immunology, with a specific focus on inflammation and microbiology and the way the immune system operates and should operate. Dr Matt spent 10 years in the Texas Medical Center predominantly at Baylor College of Medicine, as an academic researcher, focused on cancer and cancer immunotherapy. With regard to how the immune system functions, its physiology, how it goes about identifying a threat, whether that threat is a virus or cancer, and how that immune system can then be essentially reprogrammed or correctly directed toward fighting that threat, the research team Dr Matt was with made what we now know to be an extremely important discovery. In this episode, Dr Matt speaks about immunotherapy to fight against cancer. He will also share about Immunocine Cancer Center, which provides one of the most advanced Cancer Immunotherapies available. They are supported by academic studies and several clinical studies which makes them unique from any other cancer treatment centre. Tune in as we chat about the difference in your immune system when you’re younger and as an adult, using the immune system to fight off cancer, how stress can weaken your immune system, dendritic cells, and how can you support your immune system. [5:07] Strengthen your immune system to help fight cancer effectively. Chemotherapy would be analogous to putting a bomb on a building knowing there are bad guys (cancer) inside in the hopes of taking out all of the bad guys, but with the added risk of causing collateral damage. Even if it isn't shown on the scan, the bad guys are still there if you don't get them all. Relapse is undoubtedly a possibility in the future. Using the immune system and immunotherapy is a little more like using the Navy SEALs to go into the building and very specifically identify and eliminate those threats rather than the widespread destruction. If we're going to get to cures, it's going to be in the space of immunotherapy and rearming the immune system. Our immune system, also known as our defense system, constantly guards against viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens, including cancer. Dendritic cells are a type of immune cell that runs the whole system. They are the generals of the immune system army. [16:09] Why does the immune system lose its understanding? We tend to break down more frequently as we get older, our health tends to weaken, and we don't bounce back as quickly. That is a clear external reality, but there is also an inside reality. Mutations take longer to fix. You need to have adequate movement each day. You need to exercise. When we are young, we are generally always on the move. As we age, we spend a lot more time sitting down and we don't try to exercise every day. Therefore, despite the immune system's potential strength, your body is no longer benefiting from it as quickly as it could. [28:48] The First Cancer Treatment to Maximize the Immune System Immunocine Cancer Center send people a dozen or two dozen publications about dendritic cells and their role in cancer. That is their own science. They’re not hiding from mainstream medicine, it just takes time. They gathered the ideal group of medical professionals, including oncologists, radiologists, hematologists, and scientists. In addition, they have a cleanroom lab that complies with FDA regulations, where each patient's customized immunotherapy is created. What they can do is reprogram your immune response to get going and get fighting. Instead of working in a lab, their scientists take a sample of the tumor and analyze it to find its protein library and very particular RNA components. The measures they followed to transform the blood cells into the appropriate type of dendritic cells over the course of a week are what make their technique so special. They give you a legitimately unique, strong immune response that actually does ramp up and start fighting cancer. [58:36] Does immunotherapy works for all types of cancer? Here's what you need to know! As of today, Immunocine Cancer Center are not treatin
3 Ways To Do Intermittent Fasting for Serious Weight Loss - Ben Azadi KKP: 562

Many people think fasting kicks the body to go into “starvation mode” but research has shown that’s not the case. It’s time to expose this myth and teach you: — What fasting can do for your body, mind and health overall — How to approach intermittent fasting if you’re a beginner — Some of the different intermittent fasting schedules to choose from Register your FREE spot for the next 7 day keto kickstart challenge with Dr Jason Fung, Dr Ken Berry, Dr Annette Boz and many others: http://www.ketokampchallenge.com Order Keto Flex: http://www.ketoflexbook.com Text me the words "Podcast" +1 (786) 364-5002 to be added to my contacts list. Fasting can be an immense stress on the body, so make sure that you’re first in a stable physical and mental state. Women who have a monthly cycle should limit fasting the week before their period, and those who are often sleep deprived, should consider waiting until they’re more consistently well-rested to fast. If you have serious health conditions, are undergoing medical treatments or take pharmaceutical medications, you should first consult with your physician before attempting any form of fasting or intermittent fasting.
