S3 Ep 149Get Unstuck and Tap into Your Soul's Power with Elizabeth Pearson

It's time to break free and live the life your soul is begging you to live! In today's episode learn practical steps to shift your mindset, unshackle yourself from limiting beliefs, and seize the fire of inspired work to ascend to new professional heights and transcend personal setbacks. I can't wait for you to meet my dear friend and soul sister Elizabeth Pearson! She is a Professional Coach, Spiritual Seeker, Author, Wife, and Mom who specializes in getting women "unstuck" so they can achieve their highest goals. In her 15-yr sales career, she generated and managed over $20 million of business for both large corporations and scrappy startups. She is successful because of the sky-high expectations she sets for herself coupled with a never-give-up attitude -- both attributes she now instills in her clients so they can crush whatever goals they have for themselves. So why did she ditch her lucrative (and cushy) career in sales to start her own coaching business? Because being of service to other women is her true passion; not making rich people richer. Over the last 7 years, she became an insatiable student of personal and professional development. In the meantime, she gave birth to 2 children, moved cross-country, and battled chronic pain and past traumas. Her mission is to leave this earth knowing that she made a positive impact on other women's lives and inspired them to follow their passions and achieve greatness. In this episode Elizabeth shares wisdom from her new book, "Career Confinement, How to Free Yourself, Find Your Guides, and Seize the Fire of Inspired Work." She gives helpful tips about how to move through pain, build on joy, and create sustainable success. Here's what you will learn: How seeing her husband in pain taught Elizabeth life lessons (6:30) Why allowing yourself to cry can help to cope (14:28) The importance of building joy over pain (23:21) Realizing that excitement and hope are a part of success (30:46) Why preparation is essential to speaking up (37:29) How tapping can help in centering yourself (44:15) What did you learn from this episode? Something we don't often talk about on this show is what to do when you are in a toxic relationship (personal, business, or otherwise) and need the tools to get out. But it's something that most of us face at some point in our lives and it can really test our grit and grace. Rebecca Zung is one of the Top 1% of attorneys in the nation, having been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a "Best Lawyer in America", as "Legal Elite" by Trend Magazine, and recognized by her peers and the judiciary as AV(c), preeminent rated in family law, the highest possible rating for an attorney by Martindale Hubbell. But her journey wasn't always easy. Married at 19 the first time, she had 3 children by the age of 23 and then was a divorced single mom when she decided to go back to law school. She went from being a single mom, college dropout, to becoming one the most powerful lawyers in the country at the helm of a multi-million dollar practice. She is now committed to sharing her secrets and empowering others to live their lives at their optimum level of success, professionally and personally. In this episode Rebecca shares how to identify when you are dealing with a narcissist, how to build your confidence to negotiate for what you want, and the keys to navigating challenging relationships in all situations. Here's what you will learn: What is a narcissist? (3:20) Navigating narcissism in the workplace (12:54) Negotiating with a narcissist (21:40) Begin to build your confidence (31:27) The importance of not defending yourself (37:29) How SLAY works in negotiation (44:33) What did you learn from this episode? S3 Ep 142Healing Pain: From Sick to Superhuman with Mark "Mr. Noots" Effinger

You've probably heard me talk about Nootopia products on the podcast recently -- it's because I really love them and how they make me feel. But I also wanted to share the story behind how they were developed and brought to market because it is amazing. I got to record a conversation with the co-founder of Nootopia, "Mr. Noots" and I know you'll be inspired by his story of resilience. Most of all I am excited to share how you can go from being sick to superhuman! Mark Effinger is a seasoned entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial business champion. Working with CEOs, company founders and management remains a great passion for him. Mark spent much of his 20's in the US Air Force, playing with aircraft at a deeply technical level. The Air Force provided the perfect platform to become an endurance bicyclist, hang glider pilot, motorcycle canyon carver, and eventually training in bodybuilding. These adrenaline-fueled activities inspired the spirit and insight of what it feels to be indomitable. To operate well under pressure. To thrive while on the edge. The death of his former wife from a painkiller overdose put him on the path to creating high-performance experiential nutritional supplements. After 4 years of development, he released a product often considered the "Limitless NZT-48" as in the movie. He applied LEAN Startup methodologies, bootstrapped it, and has experienced 3500% growth over the first year (now 5,100% over 29 months). He specializes in Biochemistry, Nootropic Development, Hormone Optimization, Brain Optimization, and Product development. In this episode Mark shares the incredible story full of highs, lows, grit, and grace of how he learned to manage nerve pain, loss, breakthrough, and success through business and health. It's a powerful story that I am inspired by! Here's what you will learn: How Mark first dealt with nerve damage and went from sick to superhuman (4:18) How his mushroom supplement has been really helpful to people with chronic pain (12:50) Why negative triggers give a cortisol rush that affects your entire day (20:31) Ways to find the silver linings in great loss (31:53) How nootropics work (40:38) How to reverse your brains deficiencies and permanently level up your mental endurance (48:23) How to activate your peak mental performance and boost your brain power (55:19) What did you learn from this episode? S3 Ep 141How to Build, Maintain & Repair Gut Health and Optimize Your Body Composition with Rachel Scheer

Have you ever been frustrated with what you're eating and how it's affecting your body? Has it been hard to find answers, explanations, and solutions that work? You are not alone and my guest today has been right there with you. As she told me in our conversation, we live with "a food industry that pays no attention to health and a health industry that pays no attention to food." Rachel Scheer is a Certified Functional Medicine Nutritionist who received her degree from Baylor University in Nutrition Science and Dietetics. Rachel has her own private nutrition and counseling practice located in McKinney, Texas. If your goal is to optimize your hormones and gut health, have better energy, or lose weight and keep it off Rachel can help you! Rachel's journey as a nutrition coach began in weight-loss and athletic performance. However, a couple years into her practice she began to suffer from severe gastrointestinal dysfunction (IBS.) After many false diagnoses, spending thousands of dollars on doctor visits and tests, and one doctor even suggesting the removal of her entire large intestine, Rachel decided to take her health into her own hands. Using her knowledge in nutrition and dietetics Rachel became an expert on gut health and hormonal balance and completed her certification in functional medicine through the Kalish Institute. In this episode Rachel shares the path she took to figuring out her own health, learning how to eat right for her body, and learning how to find the wisdom and science that works. If you have been struggling to find a food method that keeps you healthy, this will be a powerful conversation to hear! S3 Ep 140Thriving Through Sobriety, Suffering, and Struggle with Charlie Engle

I met Charlie backstage at a Tony Robbins event, and was immediately drawn to him and his contagious, positive energy. We talked about shared suffering and how sobriety and fitness has transformed our lives. He has such an incredible story, I was thrilled when he accepted the invite to share it on the podcast with you. Charlie Engle is a writer, runner, recovering addict, and keynote speaker. As he puts it, he's an addict who runs and a runner who writes. He's run across deserts, summited ice-covered volcanoes, swam with crocodiles and served a stint in federal prison. But his greatest challenge is the one he takes on every single day—sobriety. He has been clean and sober since July 23rd, 1992. As Engle got sober, he turned to running, which became his lifeline, his pastime, and his salvation. He began with marathons, and when marathons weren't far enough, he began to take on ultramarathons, races that went for thirty-five, fifty, and sometimes hundreds of miles, traveling to some of the most unforgiving places on earth to race. The Matt Damon-produced documentary, Running the Sahara, followed Engle as he lead a team on a harrowing, record breaking 4,500-mile run across the Sahara Desert, which helped raise millions of dollars for charity. In this episode Charlie tells the stories of addiction, recovery, prison, sobriety, running, and overcoming struggles with grit and grace. He is a true inspiration, a treasured friend, a light in the world and in my life, and you will get so much out of listening to this episode! Here's what you will learn: How to welcome suffering when it enters your life and learn some of the greatest lessons (3:41) How to keep forward momentum going. From addict to record-breaking ultra runner (12:09) A way to publicly share your sobriety story (21:04) Why owning your own struggle can be so powerful. "The addict part of me is the best part of me," says Charlie (28:31) How Charlie uses breathwork and meditation to prepare for speaking (34:27) What he learned about moving your body from his time in prison (42:38) How wearable devices help in life coaching (54:22) Learn more about his 30 year sobriety milestone and how he plans to celebrate by running for 30 hours!! S3 Ep 132Action Alleviates Fear

I'm practicing what I preach today and getting on the mic for a solocast about how I have been managing anxiety and fear lately. Even though you have made this a Top 1% podcast Globally (THANK YOU!!!) and you send me the most wonderful messages about how the show has impacted you, I still get a little nervous about doing solocasts. In fact, I have lots of butterflies in my stomach about soooo many things lately, ESPECIALLY to something that might surprise you! I agreed to play in a celebrity softball tournament and I am not just overcoming my fear of being hit in the face with a ball, but also overcoming my anxiety about playing in front of the expected 15,000 people that will be at Globe Life Field--the home of The Texas Rangers!! Until last week, I had never pitched a ball or been up to bat. Thanks to Coach Ruby (AKA my 14 year old daughter) I have been practicing every day and learned terms like "refuse to lose" and "keep your eye on the ball." I am always up for a good challenge and I can promise you one thing...it will be definitely be entertaining and I will show you first hand how to walk through your fears if you come to see me play ball! So far we have lost three balls over fences and in a pond, I have been hit in the face with a ball, and had one bloody nose. But along the way there have been lots of deep belly laughs, tons of learning and so far I am getting a little better every day. In this episode I share some of the best ways I've learned to manage anxiety, including stories of specific events that have pushed me to face my fears. You'll also hear from the founder of The Celebrity Softball Classic, Tim "TK" Lund and the whole story behind it, including how you can buy tickets to come see it! Here's what you will learn: How action steps can help you through anxiety (3:47) The importance of hard work. The will to win is not nearly so important as the will to prepare to win (8:30) How connection with others is essential to the journey. WE not me attitude. (13:23) Don't rely on motivation but instead on your healthy habits (21:09) Opportunities may knock, but you must open the door(24:17) It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get back up (25:00) How movement moves your mood and the importance of the right supplements (27:10) What did you learn from this episode? S3 Ep 127Recovering Out Loud with Michelle Smith

In honor of Alcohol Awareness Month I am excited to bring you a conversation with my dear friend Michelle Smith who is normalizing sobriety in our boozy culture. Michelle left corporate after 20 years with nothing more than passion, a laptop, and a dream. She is proud to have created "Recovery is the New Black," a digital community that touches thousands. Her passion for maternal mental health emerged after becoming a mother herself. Alcohol became a coping tool, eventually resulting in severe alcohol use disorder. Her unique blend of education and personal experience serves her well in supporting moms postpartum who are reaching for alcohol to cope with the hard seasons of motherhood. As an educated professional working in the addiction field, she never imagined she would find myself struggling to find a healthy relationship with alcohol. She has learned no amount of alcohol is good for her, and she is far from alone. Addiction does not discriminate, and no one is immune. She went from a depressed, anxious mom using alcohol daily to numb, to living a life of confidence, freedom, and purpose. She recovers out loud to let others know alcohol is not an accessory to motherhood. Michelle and I talk about how anyone can find themselves struggling with addiction, what to do when you realize you want to change, and why you are not alone if you want to live sober and happy. Here's what you will learn: How Michelle recognized her own harmful behavior (5:21) How addiction doesn't discriminate and how reaching for mind altering chemicals to feel better is a slippery slope (12:03) Why confronting recovery is difficult but lifesaving (20:31) Myths about drinking alcohol (22:00) How to let go of shame, embrace change and claim your happiness (27:44) How alcohol keeps you from getting restorative sleep (32:19) Why accountability was important to Michelle sharing her story (41:53) What did you learn from this episode? S3 Ep 121From Tragedy to Olympian with Cliff Meidl and Dr. Malcolm LeSavoy

Today's episode of True Grit and Grace is a special one. I got to actually sit down with my guests in real life and talk about the incredible story of resilience that they have lived. When American kayaker Cliff Meidl led Team USA into the stadium at the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Sydney, nearly two billion television viewers were watching globally. Millions of Americans learned of the amazing comeback he made from a tragic near-death construction accident when he was 20 years old. Working on a construction site in 1986, Cliff was operating a jackhammer and within moments "the lights went out" for him. He had made contact with three live electrical cables suffering cardiac arrest due to the severe electrical shock. In addition, Cliff also sustained serious electrical burns and exit wounds over fifteen percent of his body with major damage to both knees. Nearly a third of each knee compartment was disintegrated. Fortunately, first responders arrived quickly and saved Cliff's life. Cliff's battles were not over yet. Due to the severe damage to both legs, doctors were recommending amputation. Cliff's family was able to find UCLA Medical Center Plastic Surgeon Dr. Malcolm Lesavoy, who devised an innovative procedure and was able to help save Cliff's legs. As they say, "the rest is history." Several years later through many surgical procedures and an extensive rehabilitation process, Cliff was able to gain enough mobility to walk again (to the amazement of his doctors). Nearly ten years after his horrific accident and his commitment and dedication to battle through adversity, Cliff realized his dream when he marched into the Opening Ceremonies of the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta as a member of the USA Olympic Kayaking Team. Four years later at the Olympic Games in Sydney, Cliff competed again in his second Olympics and received one of the highest honors as an Olympian. He was selected by his peers to carry the Unites States flag during the Opening Ceremony. Following the Games, he received a number of honors including the "Arete Courage in Sports Award," the Philadelphia Sportswriters "Courage Award," the Los Angeles Marathon "Patsy Choco Award," and many more. In addition, Cliff was named as one of the 20 all-time inspirational Olympians for the "Olympian Heroes Series," and continues to receive national and international media coverage through his spokesperson and motivational speaking events. I sat down with both Cliff and Dr. Malcolm to talk about this powerful story, with their decades of perspective on how it has unfolded. I can't wait for you to hear what they had to say! Here's what you will learn: How Cliff's life changed when he had a major accident (1:34) How hope can help in recovery (20:31) Teamwork and having someone believe in you can help you overcome trauma, challenges, and adversity (22:25) The importance of micro-steps (31:11) Why believing in something bigger than yourself is essential (40:39) What did you learn from this episode? S3 Ep 120Nourish Your Spirit with Brad Jensen

Today's episode of True Grit and Grace is about a subject that is close to my heart: ADDICTION. What I have learned is addiction doesn't discriminate. Whenever I talk to others in recovery who have claimed a life of sobriety, I am always uplifted and inspired by the daily choices they make to live in gratitude and to be of service to others. This is a powerful conversation about addiction, recovery, sobriety and spiritual transformation that will nourish your soul. It's about finding the grit to persevere through life's toughest challenges and giving yourself the grace to do it with kindness. I couldn't be more excited to introduce you to today's guest, Brad Jensen, who just happens to have "GRIT" and "GRACE" tattooed on his knuckles. Brad's passion for the fitness industry has been engrained into his life since he was 14 years old. The minute he picked up his first fitness and nutrition magazine, he knew that it was what he was born to do. He became NASM and ACE certified so that he could understand all parts of fitness and nutrition. He wanted to absorb as much as he could to feel his best and share his passion with others. He has since gone on to acquire numerous certifications, including NCI, Oracle applied science, and the Well-Fit mentorship. This passion lifted him from his darkest times and helped him overcome a decade of addiction to drugs and alcohol, which resulted in his sobriety. His sobriety date is November 20th of 2012, and for that, he is eternally grateful. Brad opened the doors to Key Nutrition in March 2017 and has never looked back. He now operates a course called The Next Level Experience, where he helps individuals level up in all areas of their life in an intimate, intense, and interactive course. Here's what you will learn: How Brad was first exposed to alcohol and drugs before starting his journey toward sobriety (2:43) What he learned through chronic pain, addiction, and trying heroin (13:26) The difference between being clean and being in recovery (21:03) How to build grit mentally, spiritually and physically (29:31) How he has been able to stay sober through entrepreneurship (38:25) The importance of spirituality outside of religion (45:21) The importance of reaching out while struggling with any kind of addiction (46:49) I am excited to share that I will be joining Brad soon in Salt Lake City for his event "MINDSTRONG." I am honored and excited to be the keynote speaker and share tips and tools on who to build grit and strengthen your resilience!! Join us and nourish your mind, body and spirit! S3 Ep 118Stop Overthinking and Finish Your Biggest Goals with Jon Acuff

Today's episode of True Grit and Grace covers a topic we all deal with: overthinking AND overanalyzing. I had the honor of having a conversation with one of the top experts on how to change the soundtrack in your mind and finish what you start. He says, "If you listen to any thought long enough it becomes a part of your personal playlist." The good news is we can change the script, rewrite the story and change the soundtrack in our heads. We can create a playlist that empowers us and allows us to show up fully, confidently and authentically. Our guest shows us how! Jon Acuff is the New York Times bestselling author of seven books, including his most recent, Soundtracks, The Surprising Solution To Overthinking. Published in more than a dozen languages, his work is both critically acclaimed and adored by readers. When he's not writing, Acuff can be found on a stage, as one of INC's Top 100 Leadership Speakers. He's spoken to hundreds of thousands of people at conferences, colleges and companies around the world including FedEx, Nissan, Microsoft, Lockheed Martin, Chick-fil-A, Nokia and Comedy Central. Known for his insights wrapped in humor, Acuff shared the stage with an American Icon when he opened up for Dolly Parton at the Ryman Auditorium. For over 20 years he's also helped some of the biggest brands tell their story, including The Home Depot, Bose, and Staples. His fresh perspective on life has given him the opportunity to write for Reader's Digest, Fast Company, The Harvard Business Review and Time Magazine.
