Nathaniel Hackett Botched Russell Wilson's Return, NFL Injury Updates & the First NFL Head Coach to Get Fired
On today's episode, Jason opens things up by taking a verbal blowtorch to Denver Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett in the wake of the Denver Broncos' stunning loss to the Seattle Seahawks. What should have been Russell Wilson's triumphant return to Seattle was marred by arguably the worst NFL head coaching debut in recent memory. Hackett's clock management on the final drive was atrocious, and he doubled-down on the bad decision making by inexplicably taking the ball out of Wilson's hands in the final seconds. Look, it's only Week 1 and the season is far from over, but given how tough the Broncos schedule gets, these are the kind of layup games that you can't afford to fumble away. On the flip side, shout out to the maligned Geno Smith for turning in easily his best performance as a pro in the victory. There's almost no way Smith can keep that level of play up and the good vibes in Seattle should fade pretty quickly but it was a night to remember nonetheless. Guess the only question after this debacle on Monday Night is whether or not Hackett becomes the odds-on favorite to become the first NFL head coach to get fired. Mike McCarthy was already on thin ice in Dallas and he just lost Dak Prescott and Matt Rhule has been a dumpster fire in Carolina so Hackett should be safe but you never really know these days. Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Dark Day for Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys, Tough Sledding for Trey Lance & More NFL week 1 Reaction
On today's episode, Jason and Super Producer Rob G (Robert Guerra) bring you wall-to-wall reaction to all the biggest headlines to come out of Week 1 in the NFL. MVP candidates Aaron Rodgers and Joe Burrow absolutely stunk up the joint, but the biggest story to come out of Sunday's action has to be the unfortunate hand injury to Dak Prescott. The Dallas Cowboys looked like they were headed to mediocrity anyway what with a patchwork offensive line and a slew of unproven receiving options, but with Dak expected to miss at least a month this season could go sideways in a hurry. Jerry Jones should be on the phone with the San Francisco 49ers right now trying to get Jimmy Garoppolo to Dallas. Having said that, if you're Jimmy G, are you sure you want to leave San Francisco right now? Trey Lance looked like a guy who hasn't played much meaningful football in over two years in the Niners' ugly loss to the Chicago Bears. The San Francisco roster is Super Bowl-ready right now, and if Lance can't turn things around here in the new few weeks, it would make a ton of sense for them to elevate Jimmy G to the starting role again. In other NFL news, Justin Herbert and Patrick Mahomes looked as good as advertised; their battles in the AFC West moving forward should be legendary. On the flip side, Bill Belichick's New England Patriots continue to flounder without Tom Brady. Is it safe to say that The Hoodie has lost his fastball? Finally, Lamar Jackson may have sent the Baltimore Ravens a subtle hint about his future in the Ravens' win over the New York Jets. You should definitely keep an eye on Baltimore moving forward. Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Rams Lay an Egg on Opening Night, NFL Week 1 Best Bets + Supercontest winner David Baker
On today's episode, Jason and Super Producer Rob G (Robert Guerra) get the party started with a few thoughts on the Buffalo Bills' beatdown of the Los Angeles Rams on Opening Night. Josh Allen and the Bills looked as advertised, so the bigger story was how poorly the Rams played. Matthew Stafford threw a bunch of picks, Jalen Ramsey kept getting cooked and the offensive line couldn't block anyone. It's only Week 1 so it's too early to panic, but it did serve as a harsh reminder that Los Angeles needs their stars to play well every game in order to overcome the rest of their roster's shortcomings. Later, professional sports bettor and 2020 Supercontest winner David Baker swings by to discuss why he likes the Cincinnati Bengals this week both against the spread and in survivor against the Pittsburgh Steelers, why he’s high on the Indianapolis Colts as a season-long play, why he bet on the Philadelphia Eagles to win the NFC East so early in the offseason, why he’s more confident in Jameis Winston and the New Orleans Saints offense than most, why he believes Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos are easily the worst team in the AFC West – and conversely is very high on the Las Vegas Raiders, what makes the Minnesota Vikings a dark horse Super Bowl contender, and much more! Finally, J-Mac closes the show with his Best Bets for the college football slate and NFL Week 1. Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Rams Lay an Egg on Opening Night, NFL Week 1 Best Bets + Supercontest winner David Baker
On today's episode, Jason and Super Producer Rob G (Robert Guerra) get the party started by sharing a few thoughts on the Buffalo Bills' bludgeoning of the Los Angeles Rams on opening night. Josh Allen and the Bills were as advertised, but the big story here was how bad the Rams looked. Matthew Stafford couldn't stop turning the ball over, Jalen Ramsey kept getting cooked and the offensive line couldn't block anybody. It's only Week 1 so it's too early to hit the panic button, but it's clear Los Angeles has some serious problems. Trey Lance Isn't a Captain, TNF Rams-Bills Best Bets + Super Bowl champion D’Marco Farr
On today's episode, Jason kicks things off with a few thoughts on the San Francisco 49ers' decision not to name Trey Lance a team captain for the upcoming season. The Niners have hung Lance out to dry all offseason - most notably with the decision to keep Jimmy Garoppolo on the roster - so this decision shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Even still, the fact that San Francisco continues to mismanage their so-called 'quarterback of the future' is baffling. Later, Super Bowl champion and Los Angeles Rams radio sideline analyst D’Marco Farr swings by to discuss what it was like behind the scenes with the Greatest Show on Turf (Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk, etc.), why this current Rams bunch will need their superstars – Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey – to step in and cover the holes on the rest of the roster, the overall importance of Cam Akers and the running game, how difficult it is to repeat as Super Bowl champions, what kind of problems Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills could present on Thursday Night, and much more! Chiefs Set to Crush the Cardinals? + 4 for 4 Football sports betting manager Connor Allen
On today's episode, Jason kicks things off with a quick nugget on the peculiar line movement involving this Sunday's showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Arizona Cardinals. When you get that much movement that quickly, it's clear that somebody knows something that the rest of the betting public just doesn't. Just something to file away as we move towards Sunday. Later, 4 for 4 Football sports betting manager Connor Allen swings by discuss his growth within the business, why it’s important for casual bettors to understand that it’s almost impossible to make a living strictly off gambling, why he has his eye on a few Allen Robinson and Cam Akers player props for the upcoming Thursday Night Football matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and the Buffalo Bills, how Trey Lance being the starter might impact future San Francisco 49ers lines, why bettors should look to pound the over during Minnesota Vikings games and pound the under during Chicago Bears games, and much more! Don't Bury DJ Uiagalelei Yet, Kudos to the College Football Playoff & Deshaun Watson Ruined the QB Market
On today's episode, Jason kicks things off with a few thoughts on Clemson's victory over Georgia Tech on Monday night. Embattled Tigers quarterback DJ Uiagalelei got off to a slow start (much to the delight of the Twitter Trolls) but got back on track later in the game as Clemson cruised. DJU might never develop into the top-5 pick J-Mac predicted he would be, but it's definitely way too soon to bury him. Later, Jason does a deep dive on the College Football Playoff committee's decision to expand the field from four teams to twelve as soon as the 2024 season. Curmudgeons like Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy maintains there aren't twelve championship-worthy teams every year, but J-Mac argues the mere fact that teams like Utah or Oregon (who both had their 2022 national championship hopes dashed in week one) could make a run to the title in the new format means it's the right idea. By expanding the field, the committee ensured that we'll have more meaningful games late in the college football season than ever before. Finally, our fearless leader closes the show by explaining how the fully-guaranteed deal the Cleveland Browns gave Deshaun Watson has essentially ruined the NFL quarterback market. Lamar Jackson is looking for a similar contract but it's been reported that Baltimore Ravens ownership will 'never' offer a deal like that. Having said that, would the Ravens really regret giving Jackson a fully-guaranteed deal knowing that three years from now that deal could viewed as a bargain? SATURDAY SPECIAL - Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - NBC Sports Fantasy Football analyst Matthew Berry
Since a lot of us will be conducting our fantasy football drafts this weekend, Jason did us all a favor by welcoming NBC Sports fantasy football analyst Matthew Berry in for a special Saturday conversation. During the interview, Berry discusses why he decided to make the move from ESPN to NBC, why he's so high on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and conversely so low on guys like New York Jets running back Breece Hall and Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery, why drafters would be wise not to avoid 'boring' names like Ezekiel Elliott, the importance of being flexible through trades/waivers rather than being married to the guys you drafted, a few of his favorite late-round sleepers, what we can expect from Tyreek Hill in his first season in Miami, how the Green Bay Packers offense might function without Davante Adams, and much more! Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Donovan Mitchell to the Cavs, Some Turbulence for Tom Brady & Week 1 College Football Best Bets
On today's episode, Jason kicks things off with a deep dive into the blockbuster trade that saw the Utah Jazz send All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell to the Cleveland Cavaliers. It's really exciting to see middle class NBA teams like the Cavs (and the Atlanta Hawks before them) swings for the fences; Having this much high-end talent spread throughout the NBA makes the League so much deeper than in year's past. However, the reality is that while a foursome of Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen is still probably no better than 4th in the Eastern Conference next season. The one saving grace for Cavs fans though is Cleveland's roster is easily better than what LeBron James has cooking with the Los Angeles Lakers. Moving over to the NFL, it was reported on Thursday that Tom Brady is going through serious marital troubles over his decision to abruptly un-retire and return to the NFL. As any married man can tell you, Brady is a very tough spot having to choose between his job/passion and his family. Bucs fans have to be at least a little worried entering this upcoming season. College Football Playoff Expansion is Coming + VSiN host Mike Pritchard
On today's episode, Jason gets the party started by sharing a quick thought on the report that expansion could be coming to the College Football Playoff. It's been clear for a few years now that four teams just isn't enough so this expansion to eight or twelve teams will be a sight for sore eyes; Football fans everywhere should rejoice at the mere thought of it. Later, former NFL wide receiver and VSiN host Mike ‘Pritch’ Pritchard host swings by discuss how he ended up playing his college ball at Colorado alongside Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, why Bieniemy still hasn’t landed the head coaching job in the NFL he’s coveted for some time, what it was like facing Deion Sanders every day in practice when they both played for the ‘Most Fun Team in NFL History’, why he believes Lamar Jackson is a good futures bet to win NFL MVP, why he’s higher on teams like the Minnesota Vikings and San Francisco 49ers than most, why he’s picking the Buffalo Bills to win the Super Bowl, and much more! The Lakers Aren't a Top-10 Team & The Ringer's Kevin Clark
On today's episode, Jason kicks things off with a few quick thoughts on the reports that 'sworn enemies' Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley have been in contact recently and that head coach Darvin Ham envisions the two playing on the court together this season. Wait, what?! If Westbrook is still on the roster on opening night, there is absolutely no way the Los Angeles Lakers can be viewed as a top-10 team in the NBA. The Ringer senior NFL writer Kevin Clark swings by to discuss the trials and tribulations of being an Orlando Magic fan, expectations for Matt LaFleur in his first season without Davante Adams in Green Bay, why he believes Aaron Rodgers cares too much about what other people think about him, Baker Mayfield’s words of warning for the Cleveland Browns in week 1, the San Francisco 49ers’ peculiar decision to keep Jimmy Garoppolo to backup Trey Lance, why he believes the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars could shock some teams this season, the chances that Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots fall flat on their faces, and much more! Jimmy G is Back in The Bay Because Niners Lack Confidence in Trey Lance
On today's episode, Jason blesses us with a deep dive into the San Francisco 49ers' peculiar decision to bring back Jimmy Garoppolo to serve as the backup quarterback to Trey Lance. All offseason we've been told that this is Lance's team and that Jimmy G would get dealt elsewhere, so it's natural to assume maybe the San Francisco brass isn't as sold on their second-year quarterback as they led us to believe. Now 49ers faithful might argue that all this move does is ensure that they have the best backup quarterback in the NFL, but any reasonable person can assume that this isn't exactly a vote of confidence in Lance. This narrative that San Francisco never released Jimmy G because they were worried about him coming back to bite them as a member of the Seattle Seahawks just doesn't hold water. What's more, we heard before the 2021 NFL Draft that Kyle Shanahan wanted Mac Jones until he was overruled by general manager John Lynch; Could you argue then that this is now the second time that the Niners have shown a lack of confidence in Lance? This move reeks of fear. Click here to subscribe, rate and review all of the latest Straight Fire with Jason McIntyre podcasts!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Backing Off Tom Brady and the Bucs, Trey Lance Could Be RG3 2.0 & the Truth About NBA Trade Rumors
On today's episode, Jason and Super Producer Rob G (Robert Guerra) kick things off by doing a deep dive into Tom Brady's mysterious training camp absence. Brady spoke about it for the first time over the weekend... and said a whole lot of nothing. Regardless what the exact reason was, it's clear this version of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is nothing like the one he won a Super Bowl with two years ago. In fact, J-Mac says he's officially pivoting to the New Orleans Saints to win the NFC South this year over Brady's Bucs. Later, the guys discuss Jason assertion that Trey Lance could have a Robert Griffin III-esque season this year with the San Francisco 49ers. RG3 burst on the scene as a rookie thanks in large part to a dominant running game which worked perfectly when paired with his own dynamic playmaking; Doesn't that sound exactly like what we expect to see from Lance this year in San Francisco? There's a reason why a handful of recent guests have pegged the Niners as a dark horse Super Bowl contender. Finally, Jason and Rob G close the show by discussing the notion that most NBA 'insiders' don't really know much at all when it comes to offseason movement. Not a single reporter had Rudy Gobert to Minnesota or Patrick Beverley to the Lakers before they actually happened. In fact, you can argue that the more frequently a trade rumor gets discussed the less likely it is to actually happen. Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Buy the Saints and Giants? Fade the Bucs and Rams? Flip-Flop on the 49ers?
On today’s episode, Clevanalytics founder and professional sports gambler Clev TA swings by for a lengthy discussion with Jason in which he discusses the delicate balance between being a guy who touts picks and a guy who sells information, his issue with the way the big sports networks cover sports gambling, why he’s down on both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Los Angeles Rams – mostly due to injury concerns, why he views the San Francisco 49ers as a dark horse Super Bowl contender coming out of the NFC, the likelihood that the Cincinnati Bengals take a step back following their Super Bowl appearance last season, why he’s got the New Orleans Saints and the New York Giants as two teams who should clear their projected win totals, a few season-long player props he’s already fired on, and much more! Pat Bev to the Lakers + SI.com golf writer and author Bob Harig
On today's episode, Jason kicks things off a few thoughts on the Los Angeles Lakers trade for Patrick Beverley. Given Pat Bev's rocky history with Russell Westbrook and the dearth of wings on the Lakers roster, this definitely feels like 'the move before the move'. Does this trade set the stage for a Westbrook-to-Indiana trade for Buddy Hield and Myles Turner? Things are getting exciting here in August! Later, Sports Illustrated golf writer and author Bob Harig swings by to discuss the PGA Tour’s expanded compensation model and what it means for the sport moving forward, why LIV Golf deserves credit for inspiring this monetary change but also blame for creating a divide which makes it unlikely we’ll ever see all the best players compete regularly in the same tournaments, how Cameron Smith’s impending deflection to LIV might affect the next generation of golf stars, why this ongoing competition between the PGA Tour and the LIV Golf is great for the sport, and much more! Kevin Durant Takes Rare 'L' in Player Empowerment Era + ESPN Senior Writer Seth Wickersham
On today's episode, Jason gets the party started with a few quick thoughts on Kevin Durant's decision to rescind his trade demand and return to the Brooklyn Nets. During the Player Empowerment Era, every single disgruntled superstar (James Harden, Anthony Davis, Paul George, Jimmy Butler, Ben Simmons, etc.) who wanted out has succeed...until now. Is this a sign of things to come? More importantly, are we even sure that these Nets as constructed with KD and Kyrie Irving leading the way are legitimate championship contenders? Later, ESPN senior writer Seth Wickersham swings by to discuss the 'tormented' genius that is Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay, why the McVay Coaching Tree has been so fruitful where others have not, the chances that McVay eventually surpasses Bill Belichick as the greatest coach in NFL history, the New England Patriots' history of cheating scandals, how Belichick has made a living operating within the gray areas of the rule book, and much more! Tom Brady is Back & Dark Horse NFL Division Winners
On today's episode, Jason gets the party started by sharing a few thoughts on Tom Brady following his 2-week hiatus from Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp. Nobody knows exactly why he left the team, but most outsiders believe it was pre-planned as part of his return from retirement. Later, J-Mac does a unique thought exercise in which he picks dark horse winners for every division in the NFL. Anybody can pick the favorites but it takes a sharp gambler to tell you which underdogs can pay off big. Will the addition of Tyreek Hill and a re-tooled offensive line be enough for Tua Tagovailoa to get the Miami Dolphins back atop the AFC East? Is 2022 setting up to be a big bounce back season for Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens? Are Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars set up to become this year's team to go worst-to-first? Will the Denver Broncos or Los Angeles Chargers be able to end the Kansas City Chiefs' reign of terror in the AFC West? Can the new coaching staff in Minnesota unlock Kirk Cousins, Justin Jefferson and the Vikings offense? Do the New Orleans Saints have enough around Jameis Winston to upend the Bucs? Does anybody want to win the AFC East? Some of Jason's answers may surprise you! Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Big Weekend for the Boys, Lamar Jackson Needs the Ravens to Get Desperate & the Latest on Kyrie Irving
On today's episode, Jason and Producer Rob G (Robert Guerra) kick things off by discussing the weekend that was in their personal lives. While Rob was swooning at a John Legend concert in Las Vegas, J-Mac was busy raining threes en route to a rec league championship; Safe to say both guys feel like winners this morning. Later, Jason and Rob go deep on the report that Lamar Jackson is seeking a fully guaranteed contract (a la Deshaun Watson) from the Baltimore Ravens. While both guys agree that Jackson should look to get all he can, neither one is optimistic that it's actually going to come to fruition. The Ravens have been far too successful for far too long to just bend over backwards like the Cleveland Browns did for Watson. If Jackson wants a fully-guaranteed deal, he's going to need Baltimore to get desperate. Finally, the guys close the show by sharing their thoughts on a slew of reports to come out surrounding Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving. While they all might seem contradictory of their face, Jason and Rob generally agree that they all seem to suggest that the mercurial point guard will get traded at some point before the season starts. It's just a matter of when - and where to - at this point. Straight Fire with Jason McIntyre - NFL Week 1 Wagering, Futures and Props with Straight Outta Vegas host Bernie Fratto
On today's episode, FOX Sports Radio's Bernie Fratto swings by for a lengthy conversation with Jason in which the Straight Outta Vegas host explains why he’s big believer in betting divisional underdogs against the spread in week 1 – including the Pittsburgh Steelers versus the Cincinnati Bengals, why you shouldn’t read much at all into the NFL preseason, why the New York Giants’ Brian Daboll could be the exception to the rule when it comes to betting on first-year head coaches, why he believes the Dallas Cowboys are going to disappoint in a big way next season, which NFL team and player prop season-long futures could pay off in a big way, the ideal 4-team parlay for week 1 of the NFL season, and much more! NFL News and Notes, LeBron is Staying with the Lakers & Steph Curry's Place Among the Greats
On today's episode, Jason kicks things off with a quick whip around the NFL by sharing rapid fire thoughts on Joe Burrow's return from injury, the impending Deshaun Watson suspension settlement, and much more. Later, Producer Rob G (Robert Guerra) swings by to help breakdown LeBron James’ decision to re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers. The timing of it all leads to one obvious question: What does LeBron know that the rest of us don’t? Much of the offseason has focused on the uncertainty surrounding Russell Westbrook, so it’s safe to assume that LeBron only re-signed because he knows what’s next with Russ. Sticking in the NBA, J-Mac lets it be known that he agrees with Derek Fisher when he says that Steph Curry is on the same tier as all-time greats like Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal and Tim Duncan. In fact, Jason argues that Steph might even exceed those guys when it’s all said and done. Finally, the guys close the show by debating whether or not LeBron should already be viewed as an all-time great in Lakers history. DM'ing with Kevin Durant, Aaron Rodgers is Still a Jerk + FOX Sports broadcaster Tim Brando
On today's episode, Jason kicks things off by sharing a few juicy details surrounding his contentious DM exchange with Kevin Durant. Needless to say KD wasn't a fan of some of the things Jason said on yesterday's podcast. Later, J-Mac takes a verbal blowtorch towards Aaron Rodgers after the Green Bay Packers publicly called out his young wide receivers. This type of jerky behavior coming from Rodgers isn't all that shocking, but it is highly disappointing. Finally, longtime FOX Sports broadcaster Tim Brando swings by to discuss how he ultimately ended up at FOX, why he believes the PGA Tour and LIV Golf series can eventually co-exist, why he believes Utah – not USC – is the best team in the Pac-12 entering next season, why he's betting the over on both the LSU and Kansas win totals, why he has Baylor as a dark horse national championship contender, what makes Alabama and Ohio State the class of college football this upcoming season, why Texas has been seemingly stuck in a rut for the last few years, why he’s picking Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba – not quarterback CJ Stroud – to win the Heisman, and much more! Kevin Durant is a Man Without a Country
On today's episode, Jason brings us a deep dive into the psyche of Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant. Draymond Green got married over the weekend and it was a veritable who's who of NBA superstars. LeBron James, Steph Curry, Jayson Tatum, Klay Thompson and a slew of other players made an appearance at the event. In fact, almost every single dude who played for the Golden State Warriors during their dynastic run was in attendance... except Durant. It's entirely possible that KD was invited to the wedding and just couldn't make it due to a scheduling conflict. But, what if he was invited and simply chose not to attend? Better yet, if we were to say that Durant was excluded from the shindig altogether, would anybody be shocked? Since KD left the Oklahoma City Thunder, he's turned into a basketball vagabond with no real home. There isn't a single city or fanbase that has his back, and as far as we can tell he doesn't belong to any of the cliques that are so prevalent in today's NBA. Durant is the dreaded 'man without a country', and things only seem to be getting worse. Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Tatis Jr Popped for PEDs, the Ideal Zach Wilson Replacement & NFL Preseason Musings
On today's episode, Jason makes his triumphant return from his weeklong tropical vacation. First up on the docket? Major League Baseball's decision to suspend San Diego Padres superstar Fernando Tatis Jr 80 games for PED use. Tatis broke the rules, for sure, but it is notable that MLB seems to be the only American professional sport that seems to have no problem whatsoever coming down hard on their star players. Later, J-Mac and Producer Rob G do a deep dive into the uncertainty surrounding the New York Jets' quarterback position in the wake of Zach Wilson's knee injury. Wilson is expected to miss about 4 weeks, but Jason says now is the perfect time to make a trade for Jimmy Garoppolo. New York is desperate for relevance, and Jimmy G has the smile and talent to make the Jets respectable again. Rob argues that the addition of Garoppolo would put New York in a race towards mediocrity, but J-Mac says mediocrity would still be more preferable than being a dumpster fire. This really was one of the more unique debates the guys have had in some time. Finally, the guys close the show with a few thoughts on some of the hype coming out of week 1 of the NFL Preseason. Does any of it matter? Should we be excited or worried? Their answers may surprise you! Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Patriots Setting Mac Jones Up for Failure, a Crazy Kyrie Irving Story & Day 4 of Fan Mail
On today's episode, Super Producer Rob G (Robert Guerra) kicks things off with a few thoughts on the New England Patriots' decision to sit Mac Jones and most of the offensive starters for the entirety of their first preseason game. Word out of Patriots training camp is that Jones and the offense has been an absolute dumpster fire under new offensive coordinator Matt Patricia so it seems odds that Bill Belichick would give them the night off. This offseason could not have gone worse for New England, and it almost feels as though the Pats are setting their second-year quarterback up for failure. Later, Rob G does a deep dive into a bizarre report that Kyrie Irving told the Brooklyn Nets during his contract negotiations that he refuses to play back-to-backs and will not play more than 60 games in any season moving forward. It's hard to believe this story on the surface until you realize that neither Kyrie's camp nor the Nets organization stands to gain from this information becoming public. So... maybe Kyrie is crazy enough to demand something like this? Finally, we close the show with Day 4 of the Fan Mail experience. Have the Baltimore Ravens failed Lamar Jackson? Why don't folks bring up Barry Bonds' 73 when discussing Aaron Judge's home run chase? Why do some hold LeBron James' final record against him? What time exactly does the podcast get recorded? The Lakers Brass is Full of Liars & Day 3 of Fan Mail
On today's episode with Rob G (Robert Guerra) sitting in for Jason, the Super Producer kicks things off with a deep dive into the reports that LeBron James met with Los Angeles Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka and head coach Darvin Ham. LeBron and the Lakers brass seem to be in lock-step on a number of issues heading into next season, specifically as it relates to player accountability, adjusted roles and the belief that the offense should run through Anthony Davis. All of this sounds well and good... until you realize that it's almost impossible to execute this four-pronged plan while Russell Westbrook is on the roster. Pelinka and Ham have maintained publicly all offseason that they have no issue running it back with Russ next season, but it's clear now that they've been lying this entire time. Finally, Rob G closes the show with Day 3 of Fan Mail: Which NFL wide receiver will be a fantasy bust this season? Should Shohei Ohtani win American League MVP again? Why does he hate Tom Brady? Who is the most iconic Los Angeles broadcaster: Vin Scully or Chick Hearn? Some of these answers are spicy! Serena is Greater than Jordan and LeBron, the NFL's Dog and Pony Show & Day 2 of Fan Mail
On today's episode with Rob G (Robert Guerra) sitting in for Jason, the Super Producer kicks things off with a few thoughts on Serena Williams' impending retirement from the sport of tennis. Serena absolutely deserves her flowers as the greatest female tennis player of all-time, and we'll give them to her once her retirement is official. In fact, Rob G argues that Williams is a greater American athlete than even Michael Jordan and LeBron James. Later, Rob does a deep dive into Roger Goodell's assertion that the NFL will seek at least a one year suspension for Deshaun Watson in their appeal of Judge Sue L. Robinson's ruling. While it's clear that Watson exhibited predatory behavior, the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy dictates that Watson only receive a six-game suspension; The precedence is clear. If the NFL was always going to strong-arm their way into a season-long suspension, then what was the point of the arbitration process in the first place? Finally, Rob G closes the show with Day 2 of Fan Mail: Is Magic Johnson a top-5 point guard in NBA history? Who will be the worst team in the NFL next season? His answers may surprise you! Kevin Durant's Ultimatum, Day 1 of Fan Mail + Swing Shift podcast host Beau Benson
On today's episode, Super Producer Rob G - Robert Guerra - kicks things off by sharing his thoughts on Kevin Durant's 'them or me' ultimatum to the Brooklyn Nets. Durant says the only way he'll consider rescinding his trade request is the club fires general manager Sean Marks and head coach Steve Nash. If that truly is the case, Rob G says the Nets should absolutely axe Marks and Nash - it's Kevin freakin' Durant! Later, FOX Sports Radio producer and Swing Shift podcast host Beau Benson swings by to discuss the Los Angeles Dodgers' impressive series sweep of the San Diego Padres, whether or not we can expect the addition of Juan Soto to put San Diego over the top in the postseason, Freddie Freeman's overall happiness in Los Angeles following his very public break-up with the Atlanta Braves, and much more! Finally, Rob G answers fan questions in the debut installment of Fan Mail. Is Derek Carr really a top-10 quarterback in the NFL? Better trade partner for the Los Angeles Lakers: the Utah Jazz or the Indiana Pacers? What's the worst take he's ever had? Is Last Vegas really the greatest movie ever made? Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Dodgers Still Run the NL West + College Football analyst Phil Steele
On today's episode, Jason kicks things off with a quick thought on the Los Angeles Dodgers' weekend sweep of the San Diego Padres. When San Diego acquired Juan Soto at the trade deadline, the running narrative was that the Pads were at least on par with the Dodgers; the lie detector determined that was a line. The NL West - and the the National League as a whole - still runs through Los Angeles. Later, publisher of Phil Steele’s College Football Preview magazine and college football analyst Phil Steele swings by to discuss why he believes Alabama and Ohio State should be viewed as heavy favorites to make the College Football Playoff, why he views Utah as a dark horse national championship contender, why we can expect Michigan State to be the top-10 team that takes the biggest step back in 2022, how the transfer portal has re-shaped teams like Alabama and USC, why Oklahoma’s Dillon Gabriel and Alabama’s Will Anderson are two long-shot Heisman candidates that could pay off big, and much more! Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Former NBA guard Jimmer Fredette on Blowing Up at BYU, Bouncing Around the NBA & Dominating in China
On today’s episode, former NBA shooting guard and college hoops legend Jimmer Fredette swings by for a lengthy conversation with Jason in which he discusses how his 49-point performance on the road against Arizona as a junior sparked renewed interest in him from NBA clubs, what it was like going head-to-head with Kawhi Leonard in college, working out against future NBA stars like Kemba Walker and Iman Shumpert during the NBA pre-draft process, why things didn’t really work out for him with the Sacramento Kings, how his basketball journey ultimately led him to China and what it was like playing an entire season in a COVID bubble, and much more! Judgment Day for LeBron James + Sports attorney Dan Lust
On today's episode, Jason kicks things off with a few thoughts on LeBron James' looming decision about whether he should sign a contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers. Thursday is the first day The King can sign the deal, and the future of the Lakers - and the NBA at-large - hinges on LeBron's $97 million conundrum. Later, sports attorney and host of the 'Conduct Detrimental' podcast Dan Lust swings by to discuss the NFL's decision to appeal the 6-game suspension handed down on Deshaun Watson and how it immediately casts down on the league's current disciplinary system, how Judge Sue L. Robinson was able to essentially settle on a guilty verdict when criminal courts didn't, why he doesn't understand how Roger Goodell's position on Watson changed so dramatically in less than a year, why the NFL only considered the testimony of 4 female accusers, why the appeal seems to be all about optics and appeasing the public, and much more! Stephen Ross is Just Like Donald Trump, MLB Trade Deadline Reaction & an Homage to Vin Scully
Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross was found guilty of tampering with Tom Brady and Sean Payton by the NFL. Much like former President Donald J. Trump – whom the Dolphins owner has openly supported for years - Ross is a rich and powerful man who acts as if the rules don’t always apply to him. How else do you explain the decision to brazenly defying the NFL’s anti-tampering policy multiple times over a four-year period? What’s more, this current Dolphins squad headlined by Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle have the potential to be pretty good this season. It would be a shame for all that to come crashing down because their owner thinks he's above the law. Later, J-Mac switches gears to baseball by recapping a wild MLB Trade Deadline that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers land slugger Joey Gallo (Ha!) and the San Diego Padres acquire superstar Juan Soto. The Dodgers-Padres rivalry has been brewing for some time now, but the Padres landing Soto should push things over the top. Assuming good health for both clubs, these two teams should both be in World Series contention for years to come. Sticking with baseball, our fearless leaders closes the show by discussing the unfortunate passing of legendary Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully. Scully was an icon in Los Angeles and across the country. He will most definitely be missed. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport on the Deshaun Watson Suspension, the Kyler Murray 'Homework Clause', Lamar Jackson's Contract & More!
On today’s episode, NFL Network national insider Ian Rapoport swings by for a lengthy conversation in which he and Jason discuss what’s next for Deshaun Watson and the NFL after the independent arbiter handed down a 6-game suspension, whether or not we can expect Roger Goodell will exercise his right to appeal, how he stumbled upon the infamous ‘homework clause’ in Kyler Murray’s contract, what kind of blowback Murray and the Cardinals might face if they get off to a slow start, why Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens still haven’t settled on a long-term contract extension, the Seattle Seahawks’ murky quarterback situation, the idea that the Minnesota Vikings could be a viewed as a dark horse Super Bowl contender, a few underrated teams and players heading into the upcoming NFL season, and much more! Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Deshaun Watson Ruling Coming, the NFL's QB Problem, Bill Russell Legacy & More!
On today's episode, Jason and Producer Rob G kick things off with a few thoughts on the impending suspension of Deshaun Watson. All signs point to the ruling coming down sometime on Monday, and rumor has it the actual suspension could be as little as four games. If that is indeed the case, savvy bettors could make some serious money on Cleveland Browns AFC North and Super Bowl futures. Sticking in the NFL, this whole Watson saga has underscored one painfully obvious fact: there is a dearth of legitimate starting quarterbacks in the NFL. Why else would Cleveland trade for Watson - and give him richest guaranteed deal in NFL history - knowing that a suspension was coming? More than half the teams in the League are without sure-fire starters at the game’s most important position. Moving over to the NBA, the guys share their thoughts on the life and legacy of former Boston Celtics big man Bill Russell. Whether or not you think he tops Wilt Chamberlain as the greatest center of his generation, we can all agree he’s a true legend and an icon. Finally, J-Mac and Rob close the show by telling us why the Los Angeles Angels should seriously consider trading Shohei Ohtani ahead of this week’s MLB Trade Deadline. The Angels are going nowhere fast, and as much as it might hurt, the easiest way to return to relevancy would be to flip Ohtani for a haul of players and prospects. Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Cardinals Kowtow to Kyler Murray + Sharp Football Analysis founder Warren Sharp
On today's episode, Jason gets the party started by sharing his thoughts on the Arizona Cardinals' sudden about face regarding the 'homework clause' in Kyler Murray's contract. Arizona's decision to remove the clause less than 24 hours after it went public was almost as bad as putting it in the contract in the first place; the Cardinals could not have bungled this situation even more. As a result, it's hard to imagine there's any player under more pressure heading into the upcoming season than Kyler Murray. Later, NFL analytics expert and Sharp Football Analysis founder Warren Sharp swings by to discuss how the Los Angeles Chargers have done such a good job filling the holes around stud quarterback Justin Herbert, how the loss of Brian Daboll might affect Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills offense, what we can expect from Kirk Cousins with a new coaching staff in Minnesota, why he expects the Dallas Cowboys to come in under their projected win total, why he’s higher on New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones than most in the football media world, the challenges professional sports gamblers can face when wagering on the NFL – both in-season and in the offseason, and much more! Draymond Green isn't a Max Guy + The MMQB senior NFL reporter Albert Breer
On today's episode, Jason kicks things off with a deep dive into the report that Draymond Green is seeking a max contract extension from the Golden State Warriors. Given his age and decline offensive production, there is absolutely no good reason for the Warriors to consider giving Green the max... and that's before you even consider Golden State's ridiculous tax bill. Moreover, with star-in-waiting Jordan Poole and postseason hero Andrew Wiggins coming up for extensions of their own, the Warriors have to make sure they keep large portions of the salary cap earmarked for them. Later, The MMQB senior NFL reporter Albert Breer swings by to discuss the latest on Lamar Jackson and his contract negotiations with the Baltimore Ravens, whether or not the Miami Dolphins are truly married to Tua Tagovailoa as their franchise quarterback, the next landing spot for Jimmy Garoppolo, how Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs plan to adjust to life after Tyreek Hill, the chance that Mike McCarthy is still the Dallas Cowboys head coach entering the 2023 season, Tom Brady’s return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and much more! Is Trey Lance Being Set up To Fail? + DraftKings co-founder Matt Kalish
On today's episode, Jason kicks things off with a few thoughts on the San Francisco 49ers' decision to turn the team over to second year quarterback Trey Lance. While most talking heads are infatuated with the decision to move off of Jimmy Garoppolo, J-Mac says more people should take notice of what could be one of the worst offensive lines in all of football. John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan definitely aren't doing their your signal caller any favors. Later, DraftKings co-founder Matt Kalish swings by to discuss his Boston sports fandom and the Celtics flirtation with Kevin Durant, the value of having brick-and-mortar casino partners within the DraftKings ecosystems, which American pro sports come closest to the NFL as it relates to overall betting handle, why tennis is so popular amongst online bettors, why DraftKings has decided to wade into the NFT waters, and much more! Kyler Murray's Ridiculous 'Homework Clause' + NBC Sports Boston Celtics reporter Chris Forsberg
On today's episode, Jason kicks things off with a few thoughts on the ridiculous 'homework clause' that got included into Kyler Murray's contract extension with the Arizona Cardinals. The fact that Murray's in-season quota is only four hours per week tells you that he must've hardly ever watched film on his own. Best guess? He may have watched about an hour all last season. Murray is so transcendent as an athlete that he's developed an unfounded arrogance as a quarterback. Later, NBC Sports Boston Celtics reporter Chris Forsberg swings to discuss why he doesn’t expect Kevin Durant will actually get traded to Boston, why the Celtics are even considering breaking up their young core that just reached the NBA Finals, how Jaylen Brown’s contract situation could play a role in any trade negotiations, how Brad Stevens has managed to seamlessly transition from the bench to the front office, what it was like covering the team during the Kyrie Irving Era, and much more! Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Jerry West Has Beef with JJ Redick & Should Lamar Jackson Holdout for a Guaranteed Contract?
On today's episode, Jason and Producer Rob G start things off with a few thoughts on Jerry West's very public verbal takedown of JJ Redick. Redick famously said a few months ago that Hall of Fame players like Bob Cousy were being overrated by the basketball media given that he was playing against 'plumbers' on a nightly basis. Well, The Logo fired back in a big way over the weekend. While West didn't refute Redick's 'plumbers' comment (because it's factually accurate), he did point out that Redick was never more than a role player and as such should know better than to talk out of turn about Hall of Fame-caliber players (which is absolutely fair). It's one of those rare instances where both guys on either side of the debate were right. Later, J-Mac and Rob G engage in a war of words of their own over Lamar Jackson's current contract situation. Both guys agree that Jackson deserves a big pay day, where they disagree though is whether or not Jackson should hold out for a fully guaranteed deal. The running narrative over the years has been that you can't build a dynasty if the quarterback is making all the money, and that's precisely why guys like Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes took less than market value. On the other hand, teams like the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints have consistently proven that the NFL salary cap is kind of a myth. Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Lamar Jackson Should Get More Than Kyler Murray Did + Football Outsiders Editor-in-Chief Aaron Schatz
On today's episode, Jason kicks things off with a few thoughts on Kyler Murray's massive contract extension with the Arizona Cardinals. After his offseason of discontent, it's not all that shocking to see the Cardinals cave to their quarterback. The big question then becomes, at least at this point, is how will Kyler's deal impact Lamar Jackson? Jackson has been better and accomplished more in the NFL than Murray has so it's safe to assume that he'll get more... right? Later, Football Outsiders editor-in-chief Aaron Schatz swings by to discuss how things are looking up for the New York Jets, why they project the New York Giants to be the worst team in the league next season, why he likes the Philadelphia Eagles – not the Dallas Cowboys – to win the NFC East, Baker Mayfield’s impact on the Carolina Panthers, why he and his colleagues are so conflicted on Matt Ryan and the Indianapolis Colts, the likelihood of the dreaded ‘Super Bowl hangover’ hitting the Cincinnati Bengals, why the Buffalo Bills should be viewed as the Super Bowl favorites this upcoming season, why he expects Kyler and the Cardinals to disappoint this season, Russell Wilson’s projected impact on the Denver Broncos, and much more! Assessing The Jimmy G Sweepstakes: Cardinals? Dolphins? Giants? Oh My!
On today's episode, Jason does a deep dive into potential landing spots for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. It was reported on Tuesday afternoon that the 49ers have officially granted Jimmy G the opportunity to seek out potential trades. Unfortunately for the Niners signal caller, almost every single NFL team currently has their starting quarterback in place; What this means then is that Jimmy G will end up replacing a guy who as of now we believe is entrenched as the starter. The Arizona Cardinals are currently at a contract stalemate with Kyler Murray - could Jimmy G be brought in as Kyler insurance? The Miami Dolphins' addition of Tyreek Hill would suggest that this team his ready to win right now - are we sure that Tua Tagovailoa is the man for the job? The Detroit Lions and New York Giants have to be looking to upgrade from Jared Goff and Daniel Jones, don't they? While Garoppolo is unlikely to blow you away with his stats, the fact remains that he's been a winning quarterback throughout his NFL career. If you're an NFL franchise looking to get into the playoffs, or better yet a playoff team that's looking to make a run at the Super Bowl, why wouldn't you make a run at Jimmy G? Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - The Best All-Star Game in Sports, Plus-Sized Lenny & the Ideal Russell Westbrook Trade
On today's episode, Jason and Producer Rob G kick things off by debating whether or not the MLB All-Star Game is actually the best all-star game going right now. We can all agree that the Pro Bowl has become unwatchable and not enough people in this country care about hockey, so it really comes down to the MLB and NBA All-Star Games. Does the fact that the NBA stars play deep into the fourth quarter outweigh the fact the MLB stars actually play hard (if only for about an inning each) when they're out there? The guys really went at it on this one. Later, J-Mac shares a quick thought on the reports that Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette has put on upwards of 30 pounds during this offseason. With Chris Godwin out, Rob Gronkowski retired and Fournette looking hefty, are we sure that Tom Brady and the Bucs should be viewed as locks to win the NFC South? Only time will tell. Finally, the guys close the show by discussing the latest rumors surrounding a potential Russell Westbrook-for-Kyrie Irving trade. One prominent NBA reporter has called any potential deal 'unlikely', which has led Jason to proclaim that the Los Angeles Lakers should get off Kyrie and instead pivot to Indiana. Is it safe to say that a trade package of Buddy Hield and Myles Turner would be better than Kyrie by himself? J-Mac says yes, Rob G says no - what say you?!? Home Run Derby Reaction, the Lakers Are One Call Away & FOX Sports MLB Betting analyst Edwards Egros
On today's episode, Jason kicks things off with a few thoughts on Juan Soto's Home Run Derby victory. Interestingly enough, winning the Derby was easily the second most impressive thing he's done in the last few days. Lest we forget he also turned down a whopping $440 million contract extension from the Washington Nationals. Geesh! The second biggest story to come out on Monday involved the Los Angeles Lakers as it was reported that LeBron James, Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis all got on a call together to reiterate their dedication to one another... should the Lakers decide to actually keep Russ. Only time will tell on that one. Later, FOX Sports MLB betting analyst and FanDuel sports analytics expert Edward Egros swings by to discuss why the total number of home runs is down this season, whether or not New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge should be viewed as the best player in baseball, the likelihood that we’ll see another two-way star like Shohei Ohtani anytime soon, why he believes the Chicago White Sox have been the most surprising team through the first half of the MLB season – and not in a good way, Clayton Kershaw’s future with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and much more! On today’s episode, NBA.com and FOX Sports Radio NBA insider Mark Medina swings by for a lengthy conversation with Jason in which the two guys discuss the atmosphere in the gym when LeBron James made his return to the Drew League for the first time since 2011, why LeBron’s motivations to play in the Drew League may be just as political as they were practical, why the highly-discussed Kyrie Irving-to-the-Lakers trade still has not been consummated, where Russell Westbrook struggled the most last year with Los Angeles, the likelihood of the Lakers ‘running it back’ with LeBron, Westbrook and Anthony Davis next season, whether or not the New York Knicks should meet the Utah Jazz’ astronomical asking price for Donovan Mitchell, Kevin Durant’s future with the Brooklyn Nets, and much more! Straight Fire w/ Jason McIntyre - Six Degrees of Deandre Ayton & Should Steph Curry Link Up with Kevin Durant Again?
On today's episode, Jason kicks things off with a few thoughts on the wild Deandre Ayton saga that took place on Thursday. The Indiana Pacers thought they had Ayton signed, sealed and deliver... for about 3 hours. The Phoenix Suns had no choice but to match the offer sheet and keep their star center. Even if the Suns had no interest in giving Ayton a max deal, they couldn't afford to lose him for nothing when they're this close to a championship; Making matters worse, the Ayton deal essentially removes Phoenix from the Kevin Durant sweepstakes. Later, J-Mac and Producer Rob G hit us with a deep dive into the report that Steph Curry is quietly recruiting Durant back to the Golden State Warriors. Both guys agree that it would be a bad look for KD to come running back to the Warriors after they just won the championship, but what does it say about Steph that he even wants him back in the first place? Jason says that any rings Steph wins – with or without Durant – will only cement his status as a top-10 player in NBA history. Rob G, on the other hand, says the addition of KD could actually hurt Curry’s long-term legacy given that it would now be the second time he’s felt the need to recruit a better player to his roster. Donovan Mitchell to the Nets? + Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show host Garrett Bush
On today's episode, Jason kicks things off with a quick note on the report that the Brooklyn Nets would be interested in Donovan Mitchell in any potential Kevin Durant trade. It's too soon to say whether or not a deal could actually come to fruition, but we did tell you yesterday that Mitchell and Durant wind up being linked together until one of them actually gets traded. Just sayin'. Later, Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show and 92.3 The Fan Cleveland host Garrett Bush swings by to discuss why there's so much pressure on Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski heading into the upcoming season, why fans are so split on the acquisition of Deshaun Watson, how Joe Burrow single-handedly destroyed every single excuse Browns fans had about being mediocre for so long, Collin Sexton's future with the Cavaliers now that Darius Garland has emerged, why NBA front office executives think Durant and Kyrie Irving are the two most miserable guys in basketball, and much more! Kyrie Wants to Stay in Brooklyn, How Donovan Mitchell Impacts the Kevin Durant Sweepstakes & a Potential Landing Spot for Jimmy G
On today’s episode, Jason and Producer Rob G kick things off with a deep dive into the report that Kyrie Irving would prefer to stay with the Brooklyn Nets – whether Kevin Durant remains on the team or not. Has Kyrie finally come to the realization that no other team actually wants to trade for him so he’s trying to save face? Or is this just the latest case of an NBA franchise trying to manipulate a member of the media to get their preferred narrative out to the public? We’ll find out soon enough. Speaking of the Nets, now that Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell is officially on the trade block, it’s safe to say that his future is now directly tied to Durant’s. That’s not to say that the two all-stars will ultimately get traded for each other, but rather that any team linked to KD will also now be linked to Mitchell. Later, the guys explain why Scottie Pippen is correct when he says that it’s tougher to be successful in today’s NBA than it was back in the 1990s. Players are bigger, faster and more skilled than ever before, so it only makes sense the competition would be greater as well. Finally, J-Mac closes the show by discussing why he thinks the Cleveland Browns should try to trade for Jimmy Garoppolo to hold down the fort while Deshaun Watson is out due to suspension. In fact, Jason argues that Jimmy G as the bridge quarterback would actually make the Browns the team to beat in the AFC North.
